Tim Peake leaves the International Space Station (ISS) to take part in his first spacewalk on January 15th 2016. In going outside to fix a problem with the power supply, Mr Peake became the first British astronaut to walk in space. Michael Foale, who was born in Lincolnshire, became the first Briton to make a spacewalk on February 9th 1995, during an American space shuttle mission. However, Mr Foale has dual British and American citizenship and was selected under NASA’s astronaut programme, therefore he “flew” as an American. Credit: Reuters/NASA
