Last week I met Auma Obama (Front Left) while she was in SA to promote her memoir  And Then Life Happens.

As reported extensively in the news, President Barack Obama grew up in the U.S and Indonesia while his sister Auma (who is one year his senior) grew up in the Kenyan village of Alego Nyangoma, the birthplace of their shared father.

They only met for the first time in Chicago in 1984, when they were both in their 20s. President Barack Obama has said of their first encounter “I hugged her, we looked at each other, and laughed. I knew right then that I loved her.”

Her book is one of the few memoir’s that I’ve enjoyed. You can read the review here
