time of nothing

Thank you for talking about your concerns re: Sony/Columbia and Rob Stringer. I thought I was the only one who felt sick to my stomach at the thought of the man who has been friends with Simon for years, and was head of the US label that helped to closet H & L, being the one to sign H. I don't know why people are excited, because the power dynamics are really messed up now, and there's no guarantee that the stunts are going to stop for L anytime soon. Trying to have hope, but it's hard. :(

It’s very hard, and you’re perfectly welcome, anon.

I thought I had posted about Rob Stringer in the fall, but all I can find is some articles I uploaded, so I’ll revisit now. Stringer has spent his career at Sony, he’s been running labels there since the early 90s, and his brother was a main exec and CEO of Sony Corp (not music) for quite some time. Stringer has headed Columbia since 2008, and he’s done extensive business with Simon Cowell in that capacity. Indeed, Simon was the first quote in the Billboard article announcing Stringer’s appointment as head of Sony this October. Their working relationship has been extensive, as far as I can tell. He has credited his work with Simon on XFactor acts as his gateway to success for getting Glee to work, which was hugely responsible for his success turning Columbia around. [Adele as well, and he’s partly responsible for a lot of a resurgent trend of U.K. artists’ US success.] He has called Simon the “best A&R guy he knows” in multiple interviews.

One Direction signed to Columbia in 2012 as they were breaking the American market; the closet clamped down during this time.

Sony purchased controlling shares in Syco in July of 2015 – paying £85 million total for it, and absorbing the £70 million debt it had accrued. While making £45 million from it personallyis somewhat pathetic for Simon, that’s a far better fate than being jettisoned from Sony and declaring the company bankrupt within five years. The buyout was, it would appear, the best possible outcome for Simon given the failures of his television series, losing One Direction, and being unable to produce a suitably earning substitute.

Rob Stringer was announced the new head of Sony mid-October 2016.

I say all this to suggest that thinking of a ‘fresh start’ for Rob Stringer or Harry is not logically sound. Rob Stringer has been involved in their business since 2012 – but even say for argument’s sake that perhaps he didn’t determine their marketing. But Rob Stringer has been calling the shots at Sony since this fall (and potentially had input before that official announcement). And we know Sony now holds the Syco strings and has since July 2015, a date we are all very aware of – so Rob Stringer stepping into the office in the last six months has certainly had power to ameliorate the situation, and he has not done so.

Harry has been constructed as the big fish, the Justin Timberlake, almost since the beginning. It seems Sony’s going to be damned if they don’t get what they’ve always angled for, by hook or by crook. Given what we have seen, they’ve been successful at backing Harry into a corner, as well as Louis, with profound effects for Liam and Niall as well.

Columbia and Sony are sure to promote Harry’s music thoroughly, because it could make them a great deal of money. But that is the equation. It is very much in their best interests not to help Niall, Louis, and Liam or One Direction, as that would distract dollars and time from Harry’s solo work, which will make them a fortune. It is quite evident by now that Sony has had the power to step in but have not, because such an extreme power imbalance in negotiating is much more expedient for their bottom line. They’ve been monstrous and it’s gotten them Harry’s contract, which is what they wanted.

Hope is not any easy thing in such a situation. I think patience will continue to be the watchword.

Sherlock and Rosie

Imagine Sherlock always picking up and dropping off Rosie to school everyday. And he becomes well known among Rosie’s friends and classmates and is constantly mistaken for her father. And Sherlock’s awkwardness and brilliance made him very likeable among the kids at school and whenever her classmates or teachers ask Rosie if Sherlock is her dad, Rosie doesn’t bother correcting them anymore and proudly proclaims him as her dad.

Imagine if one day it was John who came to pick her up. And this time her classmates were confused and asks her where’s your dad, to which John replies “I’m her dad. She has only one dad, me.”

And the children responds “no Rosie’s dad has curly hair, he’s very tall and he knows a lot of interesting stuff, he’s not like other adults. Usually when picking her up, he’d tell us cool stories about criminals and stuff. Rosie always talks about her dad a lot. Who are you?”

John just forces a smile at that point. But when he visits baker street later that day after dropping Rosie at Molly’s place, that’s when he saw Sherlock and everything inside him went livid. He hits Sherlock, screams at him to stop taking his family away from him, telling Sherlock it was his fault that Mary died, and this time he wasn’t going to let Sherlock “steal” Rosie from him.

Ever since then, Sherlock never dared to pick Rosie up from school again. Even if John was busy. Sherlock didn’t want John to hate him. So instead he asks Mycroft’s minions to help pick her Rosie up and be her ride.

Nothing At All:  Alfie Solomons Fan Fic - Chapter 15

Chapter 15 – After Math

Alyona rested her head in the crook of Alfie’s arm watching moonlight chasing shadows across the factory ceiling.   They were tucked under a throw blanket to ward off any chill in the office, which was very little given the heat that radiated from Alfie.   The night sounds of the factory surrounded them, but they remained wrapped together on the floor secure in knowing not a soul would venture near Alfie’s office while he was still there.   She lay quietly, enjoying the feel of him next to her.  The calm pattern of his breathing and steady thud of his heart beneath her palm an antidote to the anger that had threatened to poison their bond.   She ran her fingers lightly over the purple marked bruising she now noted on his ribs, drawing a light wince from him as he twisted from the touch.

“Maybe you should see a doctor.”

Alfie frowned down at her, “Hell no, this isn’t nothin’ to worry ‘bout.  Nothin’ at all.  Believe me I’ve been in worse shape.”  Noting how her brows suddenly knitted together and the drop of her jaw, Alfie wisely let the matter of past injuries drop.   “I’ll be fine in a few days love.”    He dropped a kiss upon her brow and pulled her closer as if to prove his strength.

Alyona still raised a brow and had they been some place more private, she might have conducted her own thorough discovery of his body – although not for the reasons Alfie might have liked.   Her fingers trailed lightly over the expanse of his chest and down his rib-cage, mapping any scars found along the way.   If questioned though, she would have to admit she quite simply just loved to touch him.   Imagined his warmth and strength seeping into her being through the soft pads of her fingertips.  Alfie lay more content and satisfied than he’d ever known beneath her tender ministrations.   That familiar scent that was her twisting about his senses, wrapping him in a sense of calm.   With some regret he noticed once again how the shadows had lengthened and that the hour must be very late.

“Probably time to get ya back to the house now before Mava worries herself to death.”

Alyona groaned when he moved to rise from the floor, taking all his warmth with him.  She tried to burrow down under the thin blanket, but Alfie tugged it along with him.   Rolling onto her stomach, groaning and mumbling a protest.   Alfie stifling a chuckle and feigning a gruff tone, “Come on lazy wench, get on up now,” and for good measure landed a teasing slap on her exposed backside.

I know all the things. I know how entirely I was wronged, etc.

It does not all blend into one perfect understanding, sadly.

Meaning, I can know all that, and know how awful it was. But at the same time I can utterly fall apart still and claw at nothing and ACHE because goddamnit the person I loved broke every promise he made in front of me and my family and my bestest best friends in the world, just.

I hope you burn but at the same time I have already been burning for months and you and your selfish fucking ass are late to the party.

What will the champions do if their s/o fell sick?

Makoa: Checks in on them once in awhile, but otherwise doesn’t let himself fuss too much over them. They probably wouldn’t like it anyway.

Fernando: Will answer to their every call until they’re okay again. He wants to make sure they’re okay regardless of how sick they are, even if it means coming to check on them every hour.

Ruckus: Whatever, they can handle themselves. He’s got better things to do. He’ll ask them if they’re okay once in awhile and only really bother if they’re dying.

Torvald: He’s got a whole stash of medicine and just hands them whatever they need then goes straight back to work. Science has no time to deal with other people being sick.

Barik: Makes them food like hot soup and sticks pretty close to them the whole time to ensure nothing worsens. Insists they sleep a lot and recover quickly.

Inara: Mother Nature has some of the best remedies and she puts them to good use, making poultices or whatever they need to get back on their feet quickly.

Drogoz: Will an extra shiny coin help in this trying time? No? Sorry, that’s all he’s got to offer. If they’re having a cold they just need to hug him for a bit and they’ll get warm again. Fever? Hug him a bit, you’ll sweat it out.

Bomb King: He doesn’t really know what to do so he sorta just lets them ride it out on their own. It’s probably nothing serious anyway.

Cassie: She makes sure they stay in bed and lets Zigs keep a watchful eye on them to make sure they don’t leave.

Kinessa: Who’s got time to be sick? She’ll just ask them if they’re okay and leave it at that.

Sha Lin: Are you okay? Do you need blankets? Food? Turn down the lights? Tell Fernando to shut up outside? Okay, I’m on it. He’ll do anything and everything they want. Whatever makes them comfortable, it’s no big deal.

Viktor: Get over it, they’ve probably dealt with worse. A good soldier has no time to let a cold stop them.

Tyra: Drags them out for a run. Get the blood pumping, it’ll help. Probably.

Evie: If they have a fever, she’s got you covered. If they got a cold, she’ll do her best to stay as far away as possible so she doesn’t make it worse. Being her however, she can’t stay away from them for too long and they usually take longer to recover because of it.

Skye: She tries to distract them by entertaining them. Watch a movie, tell stories, whatever keeps their mind off it. She hates seeing them miserable.

Maeve: She’ll go out, steal some medicine from someone and give it to them. Other than that she’ll stay away for a bit - she doesn’t want to fall sick herself.

Lex: He typically ignores the fact that they’re sick unless it gets really bad, in which he’ll drag them to the doctor himself.

Androxus: He doesn’t really know what to do, so he just ignores it. They have to be very explicit in what they want him to do if anything at all. As long as he’s given orders he can do it. He’s also less loud around them, which is rare.

Buck: He knows of many great healing remedies and will offer them. He’s not really a fan of chemical medicine.

Mal’Damba: The Spitting Cobra can only heal physical wounds so he’s not of much help in that department, but he’s learned a trick or two from Inara and knows a little something about dealing with basic sickness like a cold or a bad stomach.

Pip: He wants to be nowhere near them. He doesn’t want to get sick himself, so just do him a favour and keep a respectable distance away. It’s not that he doesn’t love them, it’s just that he doesn’t want to know how many germs can get on his fur and he hates bathing, so it’s best to just not get germs on his fur.

Grover: He’s even more gentle (is that even possible?) with them, giving them well wishes and nice hot cups of tea to help them recover faster.

Grohk: He tries his best and it’s quite sweet, but sometimes just not what they need. No, an electric jolt is not going to cure a cold.

Ying: She makes sure they’re okay and gets very upset if they get worse. She might worry herself until she herself starts to stress out and fall sick.
