You slipped your house key out of your hand and shut and locked your apartment door behind you. Looking up at the sky, you saw the clouds gathering to blot out the sun. You smiled, you had your jacket on. You might as well walk to the coffee shop. Not that you had a choice anyway; you didn’t have a car. Your hands in your jacket pockets and your hair flapping gently in the wind, you set off down the street. The people around you walked quickly past you, anxiously looking at the sky or the time, but you weren’t in a hurry. The first drop of rain fell on your hair, pleasantly cooling your scalp. You smiled. So it had begun. A few people on the street started to put up their umbrellas, their faces not as happy as yours. You soon reached your favourite coffee shop and went to the counter to get what you wanted. After receiving it, you went to look for a place to sit. The cafe was rather crowded due to the rain and there were no free tables. There was one man who sat alone in the middle of the room but there was also another sitting alone by the window, and that appealed to you more.
You went over to him, gently placing a hand on the free chair opposite him. “Is it okay if I please sit here?” You ask, offering a smile. He quickly looks away from the window as if you’d surprised him. He grins at you with one of the friendliest smiles you’d ever seen.
“Of course! Go ahead!” He nods at the chair and you sit down, smiling gratefully.
“I’m the Doctor.” He said, offering you a hand attached to a sleeve attached to a blue pinstripe suit. You smiled, slightly amused and confused why he introduced himself as that.
“I’m (y/n). Not a doctor unfortunately or I’m sure I’d have a much more flash flat.” You took his hand and he shook it enthusiastically before releasing.
“Who needs flash?” He shot that grin at you again and you decided to take a better look at his features. He was slim and from the way he was sitting he looked quite tall. His hair was brown and gravity defying. You smiled. He looked interesting.
He looked at your drink, “Your favourite?"
You nodded, "Nah. Just trying something new. I’ll never know if I like something until I try it.”
That seemed to please him and he nodded, “Brilliant."
You finished your drink and looked out the window at the gradually stopping rain. "Would you mind if I showed you something?” He asked, leaning across the table slightly. You quirked an eyebrow, “Depends, mister mysterious. I don’t even know your name.” “It’s the Doctor.” “Is it now?” “Yes.” “Doctor who?” He grinned, “Just the Doctor.” You nodded thoughtfully, not completely convinced. “What is it you exactly want to show me?” “It’s just over there.” He pointed past the window behind you and you turned to look. The only thing remotely unusual seemed to be a blue police box.
“You didn’t need my permission to show me that.” He chuckled, “You haven’t seen it yet.” “Oh really?” He nodded and stood, offering his hand and wiggling his fingers. “Coming?” You hesitantly take his hand and he practically pulls you from the shop and across the street to the box.
He let go of your hand, opening the box and opening the door to the inside and standing back. “Take a look.” Skeptically you poke your head in. Your breath leaves you and you look back at him. “Oh my god. It’s bigger on the inside.” He grins, “Fancy a trip?” “Oh god yes!”
(That gif is not mine but is basically my favourite gif ever.)
I think other than the sexist wank what is pissing me off about the Doctor Who fandom is those fans pretending that Moffat did nothing to pave the way for this change when in the last few seasons he has most definitely taken on board all the criticism he faced initially and has gotten shit done, namely:
- Bringing in female writers and directors who he then chose to work repeatedly with not just in DW but in Sherlock too - Black LGBTQ companion - Showing male Time Lords repeatedly regenerating into women (one of them into a black!! woman!! proving they can change gender AND race!) - Regenerating The Master into Missy, POSSIBLY THE MOST IMPORTANT CHANGE THAT ALLOWED FOR THIS TO HAPPEN BTW. - Giving Clara incredible agency not only in her death but in her posterior departure.
But like whatever Moffat is the devil he has done absolutely nothing for the show to progress at all! LMAO ok. We get it, you hate him. You stopped watching when he came in. Apparently you also blanked out to everything good that he did to balance the bad out.
Steven Moffat surprised at 'fuss' over Doctor Who having gay companion
Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat was surprised about the “fuss” caused by the reveal that the Time Lord would have the show’s first openly gay companion in the new series.
Actress Pearl Mackie, who plays the Doctor’s latest sidekick Bill Potts, disclosed the detail about the character’s sexuality in an interview with BBC News last week.
LGBT characters have featured in the popular series before, including John Barrowman’s Captain Jack and River Song, but Bill will be the programme’s first openly gay permanent companion.

Talking at a screening of the first episode at London’s Ham Yard Hotel, Steven said: “When she did that interview we didn’t know there was going to be all of that fuss. And in a way, there shouldn’t be, that’s kind of nonsense.
“So, just to be clear, we are not expecting any kind of round of applause or pat on the back for that, that is the minimum level of representation you should have on television and the correct response should be, ‘What took you so long?’.”
Last April it was announced that Pearl would star alongside Peter Capaldi’s Doctor, replacing Jenna Coleman who played his previous companion Clara Oswald.
Steven chided the media for its reaction to the sexuality reveal as he referenced a group of schoolchildren sitting in the front row of the screening, saying the “fuss stops now”.

He said: “It is important we don’t make a big fuss of this in a children’s show that communicates directly with children, you don’t want young kids who regard themselves as normal and happen to fancy their own gender, we don’t want to make them feel as if they are some kind of special case.”
Jokingly, he added: “Because that’s frightening and journalists – it is not your job to frighten children – it is my job.”
The new series of Doctor Who, which is its tenth, will be Peter’s last in the lead role and Steven’s final stint at the helm of the sci-fi spectacular.
Steven took over Doctor Who in 2010 and during his tenure the show has grown into a global success.
He recruited the 11th and 12th Doctors in Matt Smith and Peter and also added Karen Gillan as companion Amy Pond and Jenna as Clara Oswald to the crew.

Steven said it had been an “amazing experience” to run the show, adding: “In terms of childhood wish fulfilment, I may have the record for the human race.”
Peter will make his final appearance as the Doctor in the 2017 Christmas special.
:: Doctor Who returns to BBC One on Saturday April 15, with the first episode of series 10, The Pilot.
Starter Pack/List of Recommended Stories
So, you love Doctor Who and want to see what the Classic series is all about. But, you know, it ran for 26 years and it’s fucking huge and just way too daunting, and something about missing episodes?? Help?? Never fear.
The great thing about Doctor Who, especially Classic Who, is that watching it in order really isn’t that important.
So, as far as I’m concerned, the best way to get into Classic Who is to sample a bit of each Doctor, and see what takes. And so here is my list of recommendations for each Doctor for those of you wanting to give this beautiful low budget sci-fi meme-factory masterpiece a try.
Note 1: Classic Who is formatted differently to New Who. It’s made up of ‘serials’, which are storylines of anything from 2-10 episodes, 25 minutes each. Most are 4, but 2 and 6 parters are also common in some eras. So I’m recommending the serials, as opposed to episodes, obviously.
Note 2: I want to express that this is my personal rec list, and what I think people will enjoy/enjoyed myself. I’m not claiming that these are definitely the best storylines or the ones people will enjoy most because Doctor Who is an incredibly subjective show, and deciding on ‘best’ storylines is so difficult. So, this list is fallible, probably, but I hope you like it anyway.
These are listed, in chronological order, with serial title, then companions, and then any additional notes I have about the story.
(Italicised serial title is my top rec for that era if you’re just looking for one of each, with the exception of The Unearthly Child because it’s the first one so just watch it, okay?)
An Unearthly Child(not the unaired pilot version, the proper first episode!! If Susan is drawing weird shit on paper you’re watching the wrong one) - Ian, Barbara and Susan - just episode 1 and first half of ep 2, once they leave the TARDIS you’re good to stop unless you want to keep going which is totally fair but it’s just a lot of cavemen grunting about fire really, though there is an interesting moment where the Doctor wants to kill a dude with a rock
The Aztecs- Ian, Barbara, and Susan - okay basically if you want the serious historical storyline go with this one, otherwise see The Romans
The Dalek Invasion of Earth - Ian, Barbara and Susan
The Romans - Ian, Barbara, and Vicki (newly joined) - if you want the funny, very silly historical storyline, go with this one, otherwise, go Aztecs
The Mind Robber - Zoe and Jamie
The War Games - Zoe and Jamie (as a warning, it’s fucking 10 episodes long but really good if a little stretched out) - first naming of and appearance of Time Lords as a people, Two’s regeneration episode
Three’s era has way too many great serials so I’m just gonna let you pick from what you think sounds good. All of these feature the Brigadier to some capacity, too.
Spearhead in Space - Liz (first appearance) - important for getting an idea of what the UNIT situation is, first Auton appearance, first episode following the regeneration
Inferno - Liz - it’s basically an “all the Doctors friends are evil!AU verse” story
Terror of the Autons- Jo (first appearance), first appearance of the Master
The Sea Devils - iconic Best Enemies serial (the sword fight!), has the Silurian’s “cousins” the Sea Devils, plus the actual Navy and lots of boats
The Three Doctors - Jo - MULTI DOCTOR, First and Second Doctor, first appearance of Omega
The Time Warrior - Sarah Jane (first appearance) - first Sontaran appearance, first naming of Gallifrey!
Genesis of the Daleks - Sarah Jane and Harry - first Davros appearance/Dalek origin stuff! TMA/TWF in Series 9 of New Who is basically a sequel to this story
Invasion of Time - Leela - set on Gallifrey with Time Lords and Sontarans
City of Death - Romana II (Time Lady companion!!) - centred around the Mona Lisa kinda
The Five Doctors - Tegan and Turlough - plus old companions, MULTI DOCTOR, first five doctors except Four
Caves of Androzani - Peri (newly joined) - very acclaimed story, Five’s regeneration episode, think Phantom of the Opera meets alien mining shit
I’ve not seen enough of his first season so this is my main rec, along with the whole Trial of a Time Lord season if you’re looking for more Six.
Mark of the Rani- Peri - first appearance of the Rani (another renegade Time Lord, amoral scientist who was at school with the Doc and the Master, hates them both lmao), plus the Master, it’s a big messy school reunion set during the Industrial Revolution
Remembrance of the Daleks- Ace - set at Coal Hill, Ace beats a Dalek up with a baseball bat, literally creating the “defining moment of awesome” trope because she’s that iconic
The Happiness Patrol - Ace - dystopia where unhappiness is illegal, the TARDIS gets painted pink
The 1996 movie- Grace - take the ‘half human’ thing with a grain of salt because Eight is a little shit and the Master was dealing with shifty information
And there we are!
If anyone gets through this list and wants to ask for additional recs, feel free to come into my inbox, I’m always up for helping others get into the joy that is Classic Who.
Otherwise, sit back, strap in, and prepare to laugh at some questionable guest acting, stuffy Time Lords in stupid clothes, and of course the old/cheap special effects. And of course, enjoy, because the storylines are still solid as HELL and so are the main characters.
OKAY BUT DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN the companion who stayed with the Doctor the longest was a piper’s son named Jamie McCrimmon from 18th century Scotland who couldn’t read or write and had no idea what a radio or a toaster or an elevator was, much less a time-and-space-ship? And who probably mentally catalogued Daleks and Cybermen as “metal beasties” and “the other metal beasties”, and made fun of the Doctor for never, ever landing the TARDIS even remotely where he intended, but still called him a clever wee chappie and would follow this rumpled-looking little Englishman to the ends of the earth without hesitation?
And then remember how the Time Lords ripped the Doctor’s companions away from him and wiped their memories, and Jamie woke up in the middle of the Battle of Culloden with a redcoat shooting at him, and the Doctor was exiled on Earth with a broken TARDIS so he could never find them again?
And then remember that one time on the Scottish moors when Ten used the name Doctor McCrimmon.
I JUST HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS ABOUT JAMES ROBERT MCCRIMMON OKAY.
“Those stories you told me about your parents, even you - Melody Malone, the private detective. It’s all a lie. A story you came up with on the spot. You were running, River. Running from the Silence, and it’s time to wake up.”
When the Doctor comes to investigate the Silence, he bumps into Melody Malone - a 21st century detective full of mystery and impossible stories. As he closes in on the Silence, he slowly unravels the truth of Melody Malone, the fob watch, and the daredevil River Song that haunts her dreams.

I have more ideas for most of these prompts, so if you are interested in developing some don’t hesitate asking me about it in chat, i’m good with AUs.
Also some of the ones i listed are already in development by some writer but there’s no such thing as too many in fics, am i right?
The Legends Team: E-2, where the best are The Worst and Jax is never going to graduate at this fucking rate:
Ray Palmer is the son of privilege funneling with a guaranteed seat in the senate; or he was, until Zoom came along. But if Ray’s anything, it’s brilliant. So brilliant, in fact, that he knows exactly to use his smarts so that he always comes out on top. Now if only he could get Leonard Snart on board…
Jefferson Jaxson is an engineering student trying to keep his head down as tragedy ravages Central City. He’s heard of metahumans, he’s head of Deathstorm, but it’s not until Martin Stein’s last shred of remaining consciousness finds Jax through terrifying means…
Kendra Saunders used to be able to treat Central City like her playground, until Zoom swept the rug out from under her family name. Now, with only her muscle and boy toy Carter Hall to help her, she’s going to have to fight to keep her crown (and falling into bed with a certain Senator might be just the ticket…)
Leonard Snart will not let his city fall. Raised in the slums of Central City, Leonard has fought every step of the life to get where he is. And if Zoom thinks he’s enough to scare Leonard Snart, he’s got another fucking thing coming. Len, his sister Lisa, and Mick Rory will save this city, no matter what it takes….
Mick Rory was a messed up kid. A pyromaniac and a criminal, it was only through his teenage friendship with Leonard Snart that the two of them realized they needed to fix this city, not fight it. Mick uses his knowledge of pyrotechnics to catch and handle arsonists across Central City. And if some metahuman punkass thinks he’s going to run all the hard work Mick and Leonard have put into this city, he’s got another thing coming….
Martin Stein worked in research at Star Labs the night the particle accelerator exploded- And unfortunately for him, the radioactive powers he gained could only be leveled by psychopath Ronnie Raymond, who forcibly merged Stein into the monstrous Deathstorm. After Ronnie’s murder at the hands of Zoom, Stein’s remaining shred of consciousness, small and driven to insanity, was somehow able to escape. It’s not until Jefferson Jaxson is working late one night on his engineering final that Stein sees his last chance to undo the harm that’s been done to Central City…
Carter Hall isn’t a particularly bright bulb, but he’s loyal to a fault and he’s damn good with a sidearm. It’s why Kendra Saunders keeps him around. That, and the sex is mind blowing. If Kendra says jump, he says “how high?” Now, Kendra wants his help in taking back Central City, and Carter is all too happy to oblige…
Sara Lance personally blames herself for her sister’s descent into the metahuman underground of Central City; she blames herself for the death of Oliver Queen as well. The League of Assassins taught her how to kill, and Sara took it one step further; she kills for money, for sport, because it’s the only way she can feel anything anymore. Now, a mysterious target has put out a hit on Leonard Snart and Mick Rory, and who is Sara to question where the money’s coming from? If there’s a will, there’s a way….
Rip Hunter is a Time Lord on Earth-1, but on Earth-2, he’s more of a companion….
