Tilleke Schwarz

Searching for inspiration on how to up the scale of my work, Tilleke Schwarz does some gorgeous embroidery collages, I can’t imagine how long these must take! Beautifully messy, yet totally intricate.

“All my work relates basically to one theme: the oddities of life. I include anything that moves, amazes or intrigues me. Daily life, mass media, traditional samplers and cats are major sources of inspiration. The result is a mixture of content, graphic quality and fooling around. The work can be understood as a kind of visual poetry”. Tilleke Schwarz

Final works for my Morocco trip, 2014. #Morocco #Marrakech #DjemaaElFna #Stitch #Illustration #Embroidery

I’ve produced three works for this module. The first one is a reportage style embroidery stitch inspired by the lively market square in Marrakech (Djemaa El-Fna). Fifth Friday Festival of Fabulousness - June 2012 Edition!

Hey hey, yo yo, it’s another Fifth Friday and so it’s another Festival of Fabulousness!

Today is full of win!

Later on you will be able to win a copy of DIY Couture: Create Your Own Fashion Collection!

Even later on you’ll be able to win a copy of The Complete Guide to Customising Your Clothes: Techniques and Tutorials for Personalising Your Wardrobe!

And we’ve got a review of Tilleke Schwarz‘s latest book!

But for now, let’s crack on and open the doors on the latest swap over at our Flickr group, the Phat Quarter!

Without further ado, here’s Cocoaeyes with the skinny on what’s going down.

The theme of the newest Phat Quarter Swap is… The 1970s!

So much glorious imagery to harvest for this swap. Think of the pop culture, politics, fashion and design elements of that decade. In music alone, everything from classic rock to Funk to Disco to Punk.

Imagine a gold medallion buried in a Tom Sellick-level hairy check (done in turkey stitch, perhaps?) Or a needle-felted, wood-paneled station wagon. Or a sewn replica of an anti-war poster… The creative possibilities boggle the mind!

Interested in playing? Be sure to stop by the Phat Quarter group on flickr and sign up for the swap. Sign-ups start today and continue until 11:59pm GMT on 7/1/12. More details in the flickr group. Your Swap Organizer for this event is Olisa (cocoaeyes). It’s going to be Dy-No-Mite!
