Astrology + Astronomy

Today astrology refers to the observation of human behavior in relation to the stars and planets. But for most of European history, it also included the science we now call astronomy. Astrology was in turn closely tied to alchemy, a millennia-old blend of science and spirituality that sought to unlock the secrets of creation.

In antiquity, seven planets were known—the sun, the moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. The physical world, meanwhile, was composed of four elements, while the heavens included the “fifth element,” quintessentia. In the alchemical-astrological worldview, the seven planets were tied to the seven known metals—gold, silver, quicksilver (mercury), copper, iron, tin, and lead. In astrology, each sign is also tied to one of the four elements.

We asked 21st-century astrologist Rose Theodora to explain how each of the signs maps to the planets, metals, and elements:

Aries is ruled by the planet Mars and is associated with the metal iron and the element fire. Mars represents one’s instinctive physical response and determines a person’s energy level.

Taurus is ruled by the planet Venus and is associated with the metal copper and the element earth. Venus describes one’s aesthetic preferences.

Gemini is ruled by the planet Mercury and is associated with the metal mercury and the element air. Mercury denotes a person’s mental fluidity and communication skills.

Cancer is ruled by the planet of the Moon and is associated with the metal silver and the element water. The Moon determines our emotional and habitual nature.

Leo is ruled by the planet of the Sun and is associated with the metal gold and the element fire. The Sun signifies our life path and identity.

Virgo is ruled by the planet Mercury and is associated with the metal mercury and the element earth. Mercury denotes a person’s mental fluidity and communication skills.

Libra is ruled by the planet Venus and is associated with the metal copper and the element air. Venus describes one’s aesthetic preferences.

Scorpio is ruled by the planet Mars and is associated with the metal iron and the element water. Mars represents one’s instinctive physical response and determines a person’s energy level.

Sagittarius is ruled by the planet Jupiter and is associated with the metal tin and the element fire. Jupiter is associated with one’s innate gifts, intelligence, and luck.

Capricorn is ruled by the planet Saturn and is associated with the metal lead and the element earth. Saturn is associated with a person’s karmic life path, on which they must work methodically to overcome obstacles.

Aquarius is ruled by the planet Saturn and is associated with the metal lead and the element air. Saturn is associated with a person’s karmic life path, on which they must work methodically to overcome obstacles.

Pisces is ruled by the planet Jupiter and is associated with the metal tin and the element water. Jupiter is associated with one’s innate gifts, intelligence, and luck.

“In our quest for innate oneness,” Rose tells us, “we are similar to the alchemist. It is through the astrologer’s lens that we can learn how to uniquely express each element within our own divine nature.”

Do you identify with your sign—and its planet, metal, and element?

Lance groaned loudly when Allura’s voice came over the speakers, calling the paladins to the control room. They had gone on mission after mission for a week, and his body was about ready to give up whether he liked it or not. He reluctantly dragged himself up from his bed and wandered to meet the others, bones creaking in protest.

“Glad to see everyone is up and at them!” Coran piped cheerily; he was met with several pairs of sleep-deprived and cranky eyes. “Please say we’re going to the space mall or something,” Lance said, stretching luxuriously. “Hate to agree, but I don’t think I want to see anything purple ever again,” Keith grumbled. Allura brought up a large map, and the paladins inspected the glowing screen as she explained.

“Today is indeed a peaceful trip. There is a planet nearby with a species known to be friendly, and we’ll be going to negotiate an alliance.” A chorus of relieved sighs met her words, and she turned around with a solemn gaze. “This is an important mission despite its lack of violence, so I’ll need everyone,” she glared at Lance, “to take it seriously and be on their best behavior.” “You know me, princess! It’ll be a piece of cake,” Lance said, waving his hand dismissively.

Rest under the cut!

Honestly these history memes I’ve been seeing are too basic. Forget “FDR’s face when X” or “Napoleon’s Reaction When Y”, let’s get some obscure history memes up in here.

when the squad comes to turn up at the bohemian chancellory in prague on may 23 1618 and the protestants led by count jindřich matyáš thurn-valsassina throw ya catholic asses out the window

The Tiara of France
In I853 Napoleon III asked Gabriel Lemonnier to design the Perl Diadem for his wife the Emperess Eugenie. In I887 the French Republic sold all the Crown jewels including the famous Tiara. Prince Albert I von Thurn und Taxisbought the Tiara in 1890 as a wedding present for his wife Princess Margaret. Their grandson the late Prince Johannes von Thurn und Taxis, the IIth Prince T&T, got married May 31 1980 to Countess Gloria von Schönborn Glauchau. Princess Gloria has put on the Tiara only twice: the day of her wedding and for the 60th birthday of Prince Johannes, June 5, 1986.
The Tiara of France has 212 pearls and 1998 diamonds. It can now be viewed at the Louvre Museum as part of the collection of the crown jewels of France.

Their first kiss.

(person B is a little bit taller than A)

Person A raises their hand. Person But closes their eyes and gets an afraid expression on they face, but instead of hitting person B, like they expected, person A gently places their hand on person B’s chiek. The first moment person A touched B, B flinched. But then person B rests their face in A’s hand a little and their afraid expression fades a bit. It has a hint of sadness now. Person B has their head thurned to the side a bit but person A turns it so that if person B had their eyes open, they would stare directly into A’s, (regardless, person A could still imagine person B’s beautiful deep eyes stare in theirs) person A gets closer and then breafly, like a soft butterfly, kiss person B on their light pink lips. Person A pulls away and looks at person B, who is now tightly pressing their eyes shut. Person B knows person A is starting at them right now and knows A is just waiting for a reaction. Person A is getting a bit afraid themselves now, afraid they did something wrong, scared B off or even disgusted them, but then person B wispers softly : “I’m just afraid, that if I open my eyes right now, this will all just be a dream”

Person A raises their other hand, and puts a little lock of hair back behind B’s ear and then let their hand trache B’s neck and fall onto their shoulder. “I will be here”. Person B leans in A’s hand once more, as if saying goodbye, just incase, and then slowly, uncertaind, opens their eyes, and as their eyes find their way to really look at A, a small tear finds its way out and slowly rolls down B’s chiek. As they look each other in the eyes, they both share a sad, cracked smile, filled with pure happiness, relieve and love. And It Is Going To Be Okay
