throwing coiling combo

Video of me making a large vase using a coiling/throwing combo technique.

See I tried to take video.  Sorry there is so much of my butt here.

So really I don’t do so much ‘throwing" of the coils, as I do just 'finishing’ the coils.

Some tips for coil throwing: 1) make sure that you throw the base thick.  I usually start with a half inch.  2) make sure your base is stiff before you start adding coils, if it is too soft it will collapse.  On the other hand, if it is too dry, it will crack. 3) make thick coils and mash them down 4) score between the coils, but no need to slip. 5.) throw down before you throw up (if you are not a potter, that probably sounds pretty funny).  6.) You can trim, I usually trim upright, while the pot is still adhered to the bat, when it first starts heading into leather hard.

One of these days I’m going to get my act together on this whole camera thing.
