Varicose Veins and How to Treat Them

Varicose veins are an expression used to describe lumpy and stretched discolored veins that occur mainly in the legs, even other parts of the body may get varicose veins.

Damaged veins are quite common and may occur in both males and females. However, more females are affected. One of the major reasons as to why they occur is standing still over a long period of time, as some salespersons or factory worker may be compelled by their job.

Being obese or overweight can also cause the development of the condition while pregnant women also have a high chance of getting them because of the added weight that puts pressure on the legs.

For that reason, treatment should be sought immediately to avoid the risk of infection arising. The sores must be assessed by a health care specialist, who can recommend the use of an antibiotic cream. A sterile dressing must be applied, preferably by a nurse on a regular basis.

The problem with using dressings on your own is that your sores might be found on the sides or bottom of your leg, making it hard to position the bandages appropriately. They might take a number of weeks before they heal completely.
