thrills of the future

When you get older, you notice your sheets are dirty. Sometimes, you do something about it. And sometimes, you read the front page of the newspaper and sometimes you floss and sometimes you stop biting your nails and sometimes you meet a friend for lunch. You still crave lemonade, but the taste doesn’t satisfy you as much as it used to. You still crave summer, but sometimes you mean summer, 5 years ago. You remember your umbrella, you check up on people to see if they got home, you leave places early to go home and make toast. You stand by the toaster in your underwear and a big t-shirt, wondering if you should just turn in or watch one more hour of television. You laugh at different things. You stop laughing at other things. You think about old loves almost like they are in a museum. The socks, you notice, aren’t organized into pairs and you mentally make a note of it. You cover your mouth when you sneeze, reaching for the box of tissues you bought, contains aloe.

When you get older, you try toner, you experiment with trousers, you experiment with real sexy outfits, you experiment with pin curls and darker hair and orange-toned red lipstick and you date people that look good on paper. You kiss them in public and feel only a little self-conscious. You never like them, although sometimes you really do. you think about safe sex and sometimes, kids. You think about plants, maybe succulents, or maybe even a cat?

When you get older, you try different shampoos. You find one you like. You try sleeping early and spin class and jogging again. You try a book you almost read but couldn’t finish. You wrap yourself in the blankets of: familiar t-shirts, caffe au lait, dim tv light, texts with old friends or new people you really want to like and love you. You lose contact with friends from college, and only sometimes you think about it. When you do, it feels bad and almost bitter. You lose people, and when other people bring them up, you almost pretend like you know what they are doing. You try to stop touching your face and become invested in things like expensive salads and trying parsnips and saving up for a vacation you really want. You keep a spare pen in a drawer. You look at old pictures of yourself and they feel foreign and misleading. You forget things like: purchasing stamps, buying more butter, putting lotion on your elbows, calling your mother back. You learn things like balance: checkbooks, social life, work life, time to work out and time to enjoy yourself.

When you get older, you find things like rejection hurt less and things like nostalgia hurt more. You watch people do things you want to do, and then you do some of those things too. Things start to feel like pins on a map. You watch landmarks pass and almost note them. You eat a taco from a food truck and be careful to dab the corners of your mouth with a napkin. You smooth your shirt down. You think about details, the details of how clean the beer cup is, how you need to put the dishes away, how she smells like a perfume you wore and how his teeth are perfect and aligned. You feel a little less downtrodden by things like routine and security and a little more appreciative of things like doing nothing, finding a friend, stretching on a big couch. You hear old songs and only sometimes do they gut you. You think about your future almost always, in both a thrilling way and a very very panicked way.

When you get older, you find yourself more in control. You find your convictions appealing, you find you like your body more, you learn to take things in stride. You begin to crave respect and comfort and adventure, all at the same time. You lay in your bed, fearing death, just like you did.You pull lint off your shirt. You smile less and feel content more. You think about changing and then often, you do.

When you get older, you barely notice it at all. Then, you are sitting somewhere you’ve been before, staring at the nothingness of the sky, and you feel the wind moving away from you, fast and almost impossible to catch.

Can Conscious K-Pop Cross Over? BTS & BigHit Entertainment CEO ‘Hitman’ Bang on Taking America

On April 2, BTS played the fifth and final date of a sold-out U.S. arena run, performing to the shrieking fans who helped the group’s second full-length album, Wings, become the first K-pop project to crack the top 40 of the Billboard 200 in 2016. Since debuting in 2013, the seven-piece boy band has become a commercial behemoth in its native South Korea while continuing to make inroads within American pop culture. “Change,” an English-language hip-hop collaboration between BTS member Rap Monster and U.S. star Wale, was released three days before the kickoff of the stateside run.

“Change” touches on topics like voting rights and online harassment, while some of BTS’ biggest hits have addressed mental health. “Worldwide, our young generation shares the same issues socially and politically,” says BTS member Suga. Although K-pop music generally steers away from controversy, Rap Monster says that remaining outspoken “is important to us. And the bigger the voice we get, the more powerful our words become.”

A new BTS album is already underway and more U.S. dates might be on the way later this year. Bang Si Hyuk, the CEO and Executive Producer of label/management agency BigHit Entertainment who is better known as “Hitman” Bang, hints at “special features” designed for international listeners but thinks BTS will continue playing to its base.

“I’m not a believer in releasing full English songs to the U.S. market, like many K-pop artists have,” Bang tells Billboard in his first-ever interview with American press. “We must focus on what we do best as K-pop artists and producers and maybe add some special features to which international or U.S. music fans can feel attached. That is the best way for me to put K-pop into the mainstream U.S. music market and, in that regard, BTS will participate and perform in a way that is not much different from what they have been doing in the last three years. We’re adjusting and improving the way we do shows on the tour to meet the international or global level and expectations so that anyone, regardless of their culture and background, can enjoy BTS music and performances.”

Bang is sure to add that the group will be “very active and responsive in releasing new songs that would come out of collaborations with international artists, like 'Change.’” And, looking ahead, both the CEO and band see their most recent accomplishments as inspiration to achieve even more in the future.

“I’m so excited and thrilled at the response to the U.S. tour,” Bang says. “It’s still overwhelming and unbelievable at some point. I even further feel responsible for producing better music and production for fans around the world and I’d definitely think harder on what makes fans enthusiastic and passionate about BTS music and the band.” Meanwhile, the ambition within the group is perhaps best felt when member V winks that the group has “grander goals”; as if arena shows are just the beginning of what he and his band mates plan to accomplish around the world.

Below read on for an extended interview with BTS held before the tour kicked off. All member answers are taken via a translator except for Rap Monster.

With five arena shows, this tour is so huge and I think the main reason for that and why you guys are doing so well in America is because you sing about personal topics. Why is that so important to talk about in your music?

Suga: Worldwide, our young generation shares the same issues socially and politically. I think that young people feel the same way about similar issues and BTS wants to cheer them up with our songs and talk about our feelings and social issues.

Rap Monster: These topics, like you said, they’re important, right? They should be told by someone. Someone should talk about it. And if someone should talk about it, then it feels like we have to talk about it. It’s very much an honor that we get power and attention from our fans them when we use our voices more. It’s important to us and the bigger the voice that we get, the more powerful that our words become.

These topics – loneliness, mental health, bullying – you don’t hear about in K-pop or even Korean culture much. Or, really, in American pop music either. Have you ever worried it might get a negative or opposite response?

Suga: There are people who think negatively and there have been people who react negatively towards BTS’ music. But I think it’s way more important to make music with those issues because I think it’s important to encourage people to fight for those issues and, through the music, have a resolution for those issues. But I’m going to continue to talk about those issues through the music anyway. [Laughs]

Do you think K-pop needs to get more personal to gain a wider audience? Would you like to see that more in future?

Rap Monster: We still need some party songs, we still need some light love songs. I love to listen to them and feel the vibe from that. Everyone has their luggage and their shadows, but it’s up to everyone’s own [devices]. But we’re us. I think if we talk about it and if it gets more voice and attention, then maybe there are a lot of people in the world that accept us start to talk about those issues. I think that’s the change.

I thought “Spring Day” was a really big musical moment for you guys. Not only did it do really well on the charts, but this time you were showing a progression in thinking and a message of hope. The idea of recovering and winter moving to spring. Was that a conscious decision?

Rap Monster: It’s just like what you said, that was one step further. We’re always talking about the crises, the sorrows and youth’s feelings of getting lost. In many [television] programs, when we’d introduce our new album, I’d always talk about the word “recovery.” Like you said, it’s all about the recovery. Winter going to spring. The middle of the winter going to the spring. You got that.

Suga: In addition to being what we are as BTS, we wanted to bring some changes and we actually wanted to evolve as a group. We wanted to show our many colors, but we still want to console others and give hope to others.

Something that was unique was all the solo songs on the Wings album. You’ve done mixtapes, but instead of full-fledged solo or unit releases, you got to show your different sides of yourselves. Why was that necessary?

Jin: The solo tracks were important because it was personal, an individual story and it was represented in the way that we are good at it. We worked a lot on each track and that’s why it was important to each of us.

Rap Monster: When I get questions about why is K-pop is so popular; I always tell them K-pop is like a great mix of music, videos, visuals, choreography, social media and real-life contents. Making the solo tracks on the album was quite a venture, but it’s connected to the concept. Like, when you watch the “I Need U” video, everyone has their own crises and characters. It’s kind of connected to our real personalities and characters, but the solo songs have their own characters and personalities. It’s all connected. It’s a mixture and that’s why people get interested in the concepts.

Speaking of solo songs, “Change” recently came out. Rap Monster, you and Wale are talking about different-but-similar issues when South Korea and America are both having interesting political times. Did you guys have a chance to discuss your different viewpoints?

Rap Monster: We didn’t have the time to get into it deeply, but I’m always watching the news about Trump and America; I always watch. When he first suggested a collaboration, I was like, “What should we do?” We could just do you know, a common hip-hop song, but I wanted to do a little more special. We have our political situation in Korea and the students are very angry. So, I think, if we talked about what’s going on, then we’ll have a real special collaboration. I think my guess was right and it became special.

Do you see or feel your influence among other groups in the industry?

Jungkook: When we debuted back in 2013, we were influenced by our sunbaenim [Korean word for “senior”]. Over the years, as we watched other younger groups, we know they talk about us, they cover us and they follow us. I think they’re saying in interviews that they learned a lot from us and that makes us feel great. Being a sunbaenim, we want to be a good influence and be a better role model to other groups.

Last question, are you happy?

V: For now, we are very happy as we are, as a group, together. And I think we are happy because we are walking on the same path, walking the same direction. We wanted to get Daesang [Best of the Year award], but we have it already so our goal is to make great music, to share it with our fans.

Rap Monster: And a worldwide, stadium tour. That’s the goal.

V: We have grander goals.

On Moffat’s Who, Gender, and Bill Potts

I’ve been upset about The Episode That Shall Not Be Named for a few days. I’ve been processing it, and I’ve finally got to a point where I could write it down. So, here goes. *deep breath* I’m going to talk about Doctor Who’s playfulness with gender, and then I’m going to talk about Bill Potts.

First of all, let me preface this by saying: I think it’s great that Doctor Who has been celebrating the spectrum of genders. Female, male, non-binary. I don’t want to diminish that, the attention on non-binary genders. I’m happy that my friends who are non-binary are getting a shout out and some representation.

However, there are a few things that cause me to doubt the sincerity, the intent behind it. In my opinion, It’s being used to distract from something else.

I don’t trust Moffat at all. If you are a Moffat fan, let me humbly request that you either scroll on and go your merry way to read something else, or you can respectfully read and consider what I have to say, but I’m not interested in hearing your defense of Moffat. To me, he’s indefensible. I would request that you kindly keep your arguments to yourself. Please do not come on to my very anti Moffat post with a Moffat defense. It’s tagged “anti Moffat” for a reason. (I said in my blog description that you can blacklist “anti moffat” and you won’t see any sort of post like that from me. I’ve tried to tag the best I can on my blog because I know some people don’t want to see it, but I still have the right to post it, and my opinion not wrong just because you disagree with it.)

Here’s the deal with the Master and the Doctor. Any slash tension between them beyond friendship has been subtext for a long time. And nowhere was it more slashy than with Simm and Tennant. There was something seductive about their tumultuous on-screen partnership (thanks in part to the actors themselves). I don’t ship it, but I can totally see why people do. (I don’t ship it mainly because the Doctor/Master relationship is historically unhealthy. If you ship them, I respect your right to do so. You do you, honeys, and I’ll keep my NOTP in a corner to myself, and let us all get along.)

Then Ten regenerates into Eleven, and Eleven regenerates into Twelve. And now we have a Missy. The Time Lord known as the Master has changed genders.

WOW. HOW NOVELTY. SUCH CLEVER. Pat Moffat on the back, mates, for pulling a huge bait-and-switch.

Suddenly, there’s an all but admittance of feelings from Missy to the Doctor. Didn’t they kiss in one of their first on-screen scenes together? Isn’t that why she turned all the dead people around the world into Cybermen? So the Doctor would have an army? She wanted to show she cared for him, if I remember right, give it to him as a gift. (Which was weird to me to begin with anyway.)

(putting the rest under a read more because this gets long)

Thank you for choosing him for me. I was never interested in you before, but he is surely something special, and worth growing for. My heart is thrilled about him––racing each time I spot him, alerting me that my future is in my present, and my present will become my future. My senses have heightened–– I can feel his presence when he’s near, and I receive these waves of warmth that wash over me. My mind revels in his intellectual prowess, and how his artistic ability somehow shapes his intellect, displaying a complex but simple structure, possibly outlining what his mind contains when silence lingers. He’s mysterious and being that my mind works on overdrive late nights––it spends time mapping out who he is, and what lies beneath his exterior. My soul yearns to be with him, to be connected in all aspects of love and life. He feeds my soul and fits right into it, and as intricate of a puzzle I was, he unveiled my interior, looked beyond my aloofness, and inserted himself in. He was the missing piece. He gave me a different idea and became my peace of mind. I’ve never felt happiness like this before, and I’m eternally grateful.

Thank you, and I’ll be seeing you.

With appreciation,
Sabrina

“Using you was cheaper than hiring a professional” djwifi :3

“Using you was cheaper than hiring a professional,” Kim grinned. “Just don’t tell Max, yeah? He thinks I went all out on this stuff. He wouldn’t like to know I got a discount; apparently it’s not the proper etiquette for this stuff? I don’t know. He’s been reading a bunch of wedding books lately.”

“I’m sure your future husband will be thrilled to know you went with a two-bit table turner like me,” Nino smiled back, sliding a stack of records into a crate by his mixing board. “Don’t worry, your secret’s safe.”

“Thanks, man. Hey! We’ve got Alya doing the photography. Weren’t you guys a thing at one point?”

Nino felt his heart rate pick up. “Alya’s going to be here?”

“Yeah, she should be here soon actually,” Kim answered distractedly, looking down at his phone. “Ah man, the caterer is saying something about the fish not working now. Max is going to lose his shit. I’ve got to go take care of this.”

The groom walked away, talking into his phone with a scowl. Nino looked down at his equipment, trying to force himself to finish setting up for the wedding reception. Alya. He was going to see Alya. It had been years and…

“How is it possible you only got more handsome?”

Nino’s eyes shot up and he felt his throat go dry. “Alya.”

“Hi, Nino,” she smiled and he felt like they were teenagers again, sitting in the library pretending to study and sneaking kisses when no one was looking. “Fancy seeing you here.”

He forced a laugh, gesturing to the DJ stand. “Kim called in a favor.”

Alya held up her camera. “Same.”

“I, uh, I didn’t think you were in Paris anymore.”

“I wasn’t. Just moved back maybe a month or so ago. I’ve been living on Marinette’s couch.”

Nino raised his brows. He would be having words with one Marinette Dupain-Cheng when she arrived later. “That must be interesting.”

“Yeah, hearing her and Adrien go at it constantly is just loads of fun,” she drawled and then shrugged. “I’ve got a contract on a place. It should be ready for me to move in by the end of the month.”

“Paris is happy to have you back then.”

“I’m happy to be back. I missed…Paris.” She glanced to the side. “Looks like Kim wants me,” she said apologetically. “I’m sure we’ll both be pretty busy tonight, but maybe we can catch up soon. Grab a coffee or something?”

“I could take you out to dinner,” he offered hopefully.

Alya smiled then. “You know where to find me, Lahiffe.” She shot him a wink and walked away.

the prompt:

Kurt and Blaine couldn’t stand each other in high school, maybe one was a jock/cheerleader and the other a nerd/glee clubber. Or they were bitter rivals for competition solos if they were both in glee club. Now they both live in NY and their friends set them up on a blind date, not knowing they went to the same high school.

Chapter 6

Kurt cut school on Friday too. Rachel had texted him to tell him that Blaine had also been accepted and asking him if he’d gotten a letter. Kurt ignored her.

His family had indulged him, and Finn had even been kind enough not to tell Rachel Kurt had been rejected, until Kurt had decided it would be easier for Finn to do it and then he wouldn’t have to answer any questions on Monday. Kurt turned his phone off completely after her seventh text asking how he was and what was he going to do now.

Monday turned out to be unbearable anyway. He managed to avoid talking to Rachel until glee club, but she went on and on until Kurt had to stop her.

“Rachel. You need to stop. You and Blaine can run off to New York together and be Broadway besties and I will stay here in Lima and become the first flaming midwestern car mechanic of Ohio.” The whole class went silent. “But until then could you keep your thrilling futures to yourselves? Please?” He wasn’t probably being unfair to Blaine. He hadn’t gloated about anything. He hadn’t really said anything at all in fact.

Until now.

“I’m not going to NYADA.”

Her fiancé was perfect. He’d gone to every cake tasting, made suggestions about songs for their first dance, and wrangled his groomsmen like he’d been a cattle rancher in a former life. Her mother had completed the seating chart and paid the deposits on everything, and her father had laughed at them both as they debated whether Aunt Elizabeth should sit near Uncle Seamus or if it might spark a food fight. Everything was as she had dreamed it would be the first time she’d wondered what her wedding day might be like.

Except, instead of smiling, she was staring blankly at her reflection, wondering why she wasn’t happy.

“Y’know, I wonder”, Peter said in a singing voice, skipping down the sidewalk next to a way more serious Jean. “I wonder, why they picked us.”

“Probably, because they know, how much we care about Charles.” “And you do care a lot for him, don’t you?”, Peter teased and shoved his elbow into her side. Jean blushed slightly. “Don’t be absurd, you know that I’m with Scott, you jerk!” “Oh, this isn’t about Scott or no Scott, I don’t know a single person, who doesn’t have a crush on the professor. And I’m not even gay! Or am I?”, he laughed out loud.

akara1504  asked:

Can I request a scenario for Chuuya and an ADA member s/o? Where one day they meet in a mission and they have to fight each other. It can be angst if you like. 😊 May you have a good day!

Sure you can! I hope you don’t mind that I tweaked your request a bit and made the s/o into someone that is Chuuya’s love interest instead :’)

Chuuya Nakahara

An unexpected appearance of a man dressed in formal attire revealed himself from the dark shadows of the underground tunnel. It was undoubtedly the same person who possesses the ocean blue eyes you gazed into several weeks ago. Allowed yourself to become lost in his dancing sapphire irises that you came to believe were the most beautiful things you have ever seen. And the man, standing proud and tall, was none other than Chuuya Nakahara himself.

He’s the one that you found yourself becoming infatuated with after your first meeting with him. You can still remember the way his voice sounded like melting honey, making you feel warm and soft inside. How the handsome man with gorgeous tangerine locks gave you a sense of familiarity when you both exchanged sweet, innocent conversations. It almost certainly felt as if you and him had known each other for many years, even though you had only met moments ago.

There was also his perfectly defined lips, how they would curve into the most charming smile that was so lovely it captivated your heart. The faint smell of the cherry wine lingering on his clothes that held a mild, intoxicating fragrance when mixed with his natural scent. You couldn’t possibly forget about his infectious and contagious laughter either. You nearly fell in love with the sound of it in a matter of seconds of hearing it.

And with the exchange of your phone numbers and promise to meet each other again in the future was exciting and thrilling at the very least. However, you had never envisioned the day where you would encounter him again would be under the circumstances concerning the battle of the organizations. You never thought you would stand before the man that held the perfect spring sky in his eyes would have the intentions of hurting the members of the Agency that you associate with. And you would have never guessed that he belonged to the Mafia – let alone is a current title holder of one of the 5 fearsome executives.

Chuuya looks at you with a fixated stare, muttering something incoherent with a difficulty that he wasn’t used to. He felt his hands balling into a fist at his side and mentally cursed himself over the fact that you were part of an enemy organization that he had orders given by his superiors to deal with. He then sighs to himself, not believing his incredulously bad luck with women. Honestly, out of everyone in the city of Yokohama, he just had to fall for someone that he couldn’t be with.

“I can’t do this. I’m not gonna fight you, (name).”

With that said, Kenji merely blinks at the sight of the gravity manipulator turning his back to his opponents and walking away without saying another word. “Huh? He’s actually really leaving without putting up a fight.” The happy-go-lucky blonde announced with astonishment, one of his hands hovering above his narrowing eyes like he’s shielding away the blinding rays of the golden sun as he watches the man adorned with a fancy hat slowly disappearing from sight.

“Seems like he’s quite smitten with you, (name), to have walked away just like that,” said Yosano as she crosses her arms over her chest and watches the moving figure blend seamlessly into the darkness of the tunnel alongside you and Kenji. You felt a blush working its way up your neck at her comment and sheepishly tried to convince her that it was just her imagination.

But who were you kidding? Anyone who saw the way Chuuya looked at you didn’t have to think twice about it. Yosano just confirmed something you weren’t sure how to accept. Because you and Chuuya belonged in a divided world that would only clash with each other if your relationship with him had developed into something more.

Night on the town, part 11

Pairing: Leonard McCoy x Reader

Word Count: 1960

Warning: Fluff

 Part 1 part 2 part 3 part 4 part 5 part 6 part 7 part 8 part 9 part 10

There was no doubt your face was frozen in utter shock at his declaration.  “Umm what?”

Leonard frowned the typical Leonard frown.  “We are gonna get married today.”

“Like hell we are.  I don’t even know if I am going to get off this floor today.  Let alone feeling well enough say my vows.  And I sure as hell am not getting married in the bathroom.”

“Well, we are getting’ married.  I love you and that’s my baby in there.”  Leonard set his hand on your still flat abdomen.  “[Y/N]… we are havin’ a baby.”  The last part was so quiet you almost didn’t catch it.  But it made you beam at him as you leaned your head against his shoulder. Your hand covered his.

“Yes we are.  I’m scared but I am so happy.  It was something I did not even know I wanted until I knew it happened.” Leonard wrapped his arms around you, holding you close and enjoying the feeling.  It was something he did not think would happen again.  That was how Jim found you both.  Clinging to each other on the bathroom floor.

“Well my work here is done. I have less than forty-eight hours before we report back to the ship.  I plan on being drunk for all of them.  [Y/N] I deleted your resignation. You’re welcome.  Night kids, have fun.”  He was out the front door without another word.

You grandfather returned home not long after you peeled yourself off the bathroom floor.  He found you and Leonard sitting at the kitchen island talking.  Leonard stumbled over his words, fearing what the old Admiral would think of the man who hurt his granddaughter.  “Umm good day sir, Admiral [Y/L/N].  I’m… uh. Leonard McCoy sir.”

You snorted then laughed from behind him.  Leonard turned to frown at you over his shoulder.  Your grandfather stepped close to Leonard with his stern face.  He appeared to look over Leonard, as he did with those who were under his command.

“So you are the one that stole my girl’s heart then broke it?  And you impregnated her?  What do you have to say for yourself?”  It took everything you had within you not to fall on the floor laughing.  Leonard broke out in a cold sweat, mumbling his apologies.  “Well son? Did you beg her forgiveness and promise to marry her?”

“Ye…yes… sir…”  Your grandfather narrowed his eyes as moved close to Leonard’s face.  You could see him shaking at the scrutiny.  After about five seconds your grandfather pulled back and smiled like the wonderful man he was and looked over to you.

“Good.  When do I get to walk to down the aisle, my girl?” Grinning you walked around Leonard to give him a hug.  Leonard look confused for a moment before he realized what happened.  Then he started to relax.

“Soon I hope.  Leonard this is my grandfather, Sean.  Grandpa, this is Leonard.”  Both men shook hands though you could tell that Leonard was nervous.

“It’s good to finally meet you son.  [Y/N] has told me a lot about you.  I’m happy you made the right decision and came here.  My great grand baby there needs to strong man in his or her life.”

After a few minutes of small talk, Sean retired to his office for the evening.  After the day of discussions with Star Fleet he has several reports to finish.  Leonard looked as though he had been holding his breath the whole time.  He was almost gasping as his nerves were finally relieved. “I don’t know if I have ever thought someone was gonna stab me like when he walked in here.  And you laughing like it was nothing.”

“Leonard, he has been waiting to meet you since I first told him about you.  He looks scary but he is a teddy bear.  He has been saying since I got here that we deserve to be together. I think he wanted to see if he could scare you.”

“Yeah he scared me.  I think I may need some clean pants now.”

The rest of the night you talked a lot.  Every feeling and hurt was out in the open.  He told you of Joanna’s apology and how she wanted to tell you herself soon. Sometime in the near future you would talk to her and you would forgive her.  For the moment you just wanted to be held in his arms. The time apart had caused enough hurt for you both.  Every so often he would whisper how much he loved you in your ear then would run a hand over your abdomen.  It would send a thrill through you knowing in the not too far future you and Leonard would have this new little life.  You had no doubt that Jim would demand the baby be named after him for his role in saving your relationship.  It was something to think about over the next months.

When you woke in the morning Leonard was staring at you.  He had been memorizing every inch of your face.  “See something you like, handsome?”  That easy smile of his appeared as you slowly got used to the morning sun.

“More than like, darlin’. I am looking at the woman I love. Will you do something for me?”

You curled up into his chest closing your eyes.  “You know I would do anything for you.”

“Marry me before we go back? I don’t want to spend another day without you as my wife.  It’s not about the baby.  I came here wanting it before you told me you were pregnant.  But that little one in there only seals it.  I want you with me as Mrs.… Dr… whoever McCoy.”

Once the words had time to process in your mind, you pulled back to look at him.  “All right Dr. McCoy.  Let’s get married.  Better tell Jim though he might be upset if he misses it.”  He smiled down at you, then kissed your face all over.

“You just made me the happiest man.  I will work every damn day to make you happy I swear it.”

It took a most of the day but you were able to pull together a small wedding.  Your grandfather arranged for a chaplain he knew to come perform the ceremony.  Those closest to you from the Enterprise gave up their last day of freedom, to join you in the backyard to celebrate.  Your dress was not traditional with its flowy green skirt.  But you felt beautiful as you walked on the arm of you grandfather towards Leonard.  Jim stood at his side with a knowing grin on his face.  Like he had predicted this from the beginning.  Well you guess he did.  From the time you first stepped aboard the ship, he had said it.  Damn that smirk of his.

It only distracted you for a moment before looking at Leonard.  His face was alight with pure joy.  Your grandfather kissed your cheek as he joined Leonard’s and your hands together. The chaplain began speaking in a soft baritone that felt like it was made for this.  The theme of love and joyfulness left not a dry eye in those gathered.  “An’t tha lovely.”  Could be heard as a loud sob from the Scotsman in the back.

When the time came to recite your vows you found the strength to speak the words of love that you both would always remember.  Between the pregnancy hormones and the emotions of the day you could not keep the tears from slipping down your cheeks.  Leonard had his own tears as he stuttered of the words.  But he kissed your clasped hands as he pledged his faith and love.  As you were pronounced husband and wife, Leonard breathed a huge sigh of relief.  “’Bout damn time!”  He pulled you close, kissing you like you were the air he needed to live.

Everyone clapped and cheered their happiness for you.  It wasn’t long before you were being hugged by all of your friends and your grandfather. Once the crowd was sat at the scattered tables, Jim stood to draw the attention for his speech.  “Almost five years ago I met Bones on a ship headed for Starfleet.  I certainly didn’t know then, when I met the cranky bastard that he would become one of my closest friends.”  Everyone laughed other than Leonard, though he did crack a smile.

“Over the time we have all known him our friendships grew.  We relied on each other and became the family that we all missed and needed. Bones was like the crotchety grandpa, no offense Admiral [Y/N] …”  The laughs were louder this time.  Your grandfather laughed as well, clapping his hand and motioned for Jim to continue. “He is the person we all go to, to complain, to vent, and to be healed.  Whether he liked it or not.  Though we know that secretly he needed it as much as we do.  We all need something that keeps us going and for the longest time he did not have that.  Until that one night.  That night where his whole life changed and he has not ever looked back.  Now [Y/N] has brought out the best in Bones. I for one, will forever be in her debt.  [Y/N], you have turned more than just Bones’ live upside down.  You are not just the woman he loves without question, but also have become a friend to everyone here.  That smile of yours has brightened many a day for whoever has needed it and been that ear when I had too much to drink.  After scaring the hell out of me this week, I can’t tell you how happy I am to stand here to toast the two of you.  Bones, [Y/N] be happy and love each other.  Make us all sick with the lovey dovey crap and let us share in the story that you are going to write from here on out.  That baby better be named after me when he is born.  To Bones and [Y/N]!”

“To Bones and [Y/N]!” Everyone raised their drinks toasting for you.  Leonard and you sipped at your drinks, your fizzy juice was not what you wanted but you were so happy you could not complain. The rest of your night was like a dream.  As a married couple you laughed, danced and ate like there was nothing else in the world to do.  It was one of the best nights of your life.

Jim managed to push off departure for an extra day so that you and Leonard were able to have thirty-six hours of a honeymoon before have to return to duty.   So there you sat with your new husband curled up together in front of the fire.  You looked at your wedding band in the glow of the firelight and sighed contently.  “Are you all right Mrs. McCoy?”

You could hear that a million times and never grow tired of it.  Mrs. McCoy…  now Dr. McCoy.  Yeah, that wouldn’t get too confusing in the medbay. “I’m happy.  So very happy.”

“Me too darlin’.  I wish we could stay like this forever but…”

“But we have our duty to do.  I know but at least we have something to look forward to.  Thirty-five weeks or so and we will be adding to the McCoy family.”  Leonard rested both his hands over your lower abdomen. The warmth seeping through the thin fabric of your nightgown.”

“Yep.  I can’t wait.  You are going to be an amazing mother, [Y/N].  Thank you for starting this new life with me.”  His soft kiss turned into so much more.  The two of you taking advantage of the few hours you had left alone.

Anyway, if you're up for some good old-fashioned Boostle banter and smooching, anything Darkwing Duck, or some found-family fluff with the STAR labs wonder trio (shippy or not) I think that would be delightful. <3 (3/3)

This turned out less banter-y and more “the beginning of a 30K romcom I’ll never write” but I hope you like it anyway? :D? It’s set in the Rebirth universe, which, if you’re not reading it: Ted is, uh, “mentoring” Jaime (who thinks he’s annoying and wants him to go away) and had a brief superhero career himself, and Booster is…well, he hasn’t been seen in Rebirth yet but I’m assuming he’s still basically the shallow showboater we saw in New 52. Ted throws a little shade at him in passing in a recent issue, it made me smile.

ANYWAY ENJOY (I HOPE):

“Mr. Kord? There’s, uh…somebody here to see you.”

Ted sighed and pressed the speakerphone button. “I thought my schedule was clear for the rest of the afternoon, Connie. I was just about to head down to the lab.” He was already loosening his tie as he spoke. Among other things, being in the lab instead of the office meant not having to wear a monkey suit a second longer than he had to.

More importantly, it meant getting to study whatever the hell was going on with Jaime’s scarab instead of P&L reports, but that wasn’t information he could share with his hardworking staff.

“He doesn’t have an appointment but he’s, um, very insistent.”

Ted frowned. Connie sounded more flustered than alarmed, so the guy couldn’t be too much of a kook - and even if he was, Ted hadn’t forgotten all of his aikido. He was probably just a pushy reporter or job candidate. Ted could handle either of those options quickly enough, and it sounded like he wasn’t getting out the door until he did.

“Fine. Send him in.”

Ted hung up the phone and went back to shutting down his computer, tugging his tie the rest of the way off as he did. He heard the door swing open.

“I’m flattered, but no need to get undressed on my account,” said an amused - and oddly familiar - voice.

Ted glanced over, and then did a cartoonish double take. Standing in the doorway of his office was none other than Booster Gold, the self-promoting laughingstock of the superhero set. There was no mistaking him, even if his face hadn’t been plastered all over every billboard and magazine ad from here to L.A., since he was wearing that ridiculously shiny costume - though the effect was ruined a little by the backpack slung over one shoulder.

HJ: These guys are awesome to watch of their crazy adventure. And I can’t wait to see more in the future!

Forced Hand

Third installment of the Demetri Volturi “Seeker” series (”Seeker” - “Decisions, Decisions”) requested by fandoms4llife! “He gets the venom out, she wakes up in a hospital or something and it’s like the scene where Bella wakes up in the hospital. Then she goes back to the volturi and she’s like “change me right now. I don’t know why you didn’t let the venom spread and so on. ” But he’s like I am not changing you right now blah blah blah, fluff fluff fluff. But he eventually changes her at the end (time skip?)” Don’t go thinking this is going to play out like that request makes it sound. We’ve got some thrills incoming. Hope you like it!

All past and future installments of this series can be found on the “The Story Continues…” page.

The trip back to Volterra was cold and distant, the sound of your still-beating heart hammering away in your chest to serve as a constant reminder that Demetri had refused, once again, to change you. You were journeying back in his company, though you had never felt more separated than you did in the cabin of the airplane. His hand rested, his palm facing upward, on the armrest that split your seats; you ignored his unending request, staring grimly out of the airplane’s window, watching the sprawling Italian countryside come into view after an hour or so of flight time, your stomach lurching as you imagined the audience lying in wait within the walled city you now called home. You had no idea how much longer you would be able to reference the city as home, or how much longer you had to think at all… to breathe, to blink, to feel. Aro’s jurisdiction reigned high above all others, and he oftentimes held his veto in contrast to the opinions of his companions… but even without Caius itching for your execution, you felt Aro may lean toward your death, seeing as Demetri made no secret of his desire to keep you human. The vampire by your side allowed his fingertips to trail along the length of your upper arm, sighing in defeat to see you recoil from his touch. There were no words, no gestures he could make, to right the wrongs he’d dealt you, at least not at the current moment. If you could have run away from him, just to escape from him for a day, a week, you would have taken the first plane setting out in any direction other than Italy as soon as you arrived at the terminal. Unfortunately, you didn’t have that luxury. Demetri was sewed to your hip until your inevitable death, seeing as there wouldn’t be an eternal future.

“Please, darling, talk to me,” he plead, his voice a hushed whisper leaking with unbridled emotion, his volume serving as the only barrier between sharing his heart with the entirety of first class. You continued to stare at the wisps of clouds as they passed by the planes of glass separating you from unthinkable cold and unbreathable air. You felt tear burn along your waterlines, hot from anger, your cheeks blazing with discontentment. Demetri’s hand slipped over your shoulder, his palm smoothing over your shoulder blade, attempting to coax you from your window. You retracted quickly, bracing your palms against his chest and shoving with all the force you could muster, knowing soundly that you could never manage to push him away without his cooperation. He obliged, settling back into the space of his own seat, his crimson eyes burning holes in the side of your face from behind the thick shades of his sunglasses. He inhaled slowly, bringing his face a fraction of an inch closer to your own, allowing his low voice to be heard. “Look, I am truly sorry that I did not do to you what you so clearly wanted in some foreign Romanian hospital. If I have to explain to you that circumstance plays a part in this… exchange, I am more than happy to try again. It doesn’t seem to stick, with you,” he breathed, his voice hiding obvious pain with the sting of anger and sneaking resentment, not for you but for your situation. You refused him the slightest of glances when next you spoke, your voice shaking from terror as much as it trembled with rage.

“He’s going to kill me.” You let your words linger in the air, hyper-aware of the stone stillness Demetri had adopted by your side, his immobile form just barely visible in your peripheral. You turned to face him then, finally locking eyes with him, though his face had lost all expression. It was as if he had powered off, leaving his body to deal with his emotions elsewhere. He had removed his sunglasses, apparently unaware of the consequences that might have, and you were briefly thankful that the flight attendants had long ago been told to leave you be. His eyes, glowing dimly like cut rubies, were empty on your own, his lips parted as if in preparation to speak, though no words escaped his mouth. “Are you happy now, Demetri?” He shook his head as if to dispel your words from his mind, his brow furrowing in denial.

“No, no… he wouldn’t kill you. He knows how I fee-” You cut him off, conscious of your volume, your vision blurring against your wishes.

“You’re right. He won’t kill me. He’ll have Felix do it. Regardless of your feelings, Demetri, the facts are that I know too much and my heart is still beating. I tried to tell you before, but you wouldn’t listen to me. You never listen to me. Think it over, then leave me alone. I’m trying to enjoy my last few hours of life.” He didn’t move, nor did he respond. He knew you were right. When the plane landed, Demetri (sporting his dark sunglasses once again, now covering his skin with a sleek hat and scarf, gloves concealing his hands) helped you from your seat, removing your luggage with one hand as if it weighed nothing. His hand guided you toward the exit, smoothing gently against the small of your back, until you were safely in the baggage claim. He passed a bill to an airport attendant, speaking fast Italian you could barely understand, before rushing you out the door. You assumed he would receive the rest of his bags by mail within the next few days, along with a free meal. How very typical of him.

There was a car waiting. In your limited experience with the Volturi, there was always a car waiting; it eliminates the possibility of escape. One of the lower-downs, a hundred and fifty-something year old grunt named Nikolai, was waiting within to escort you to the Volturi, much in the style of a pizza delivery man. You contemplated briefly, as Demetri slid into his seat beside you, if it would hurt terribly to have your blood drained by a multitude of ravenous vampires, or if they would snap your neck before the onset of the pain. Were you worthy of a quick death, in their books? Would your association with Demetri spare you the worst of the pain, or would it damn you, a painful death providing a punishment to misbehaving member of the guard? You hoped, blindly, for the previous. There was no telling how Aro would be inclined today, but surely you would die. Demetri’s hand crept to your knee, his palm shaking just slightly. You stared at him, though he would not look at you, shocked by his so obvious fear. In all your time of knowing him, in knowing vampires, you had never witnessed such a display of weakness. Without thinking, you placed your palm atop his, smoothing the fabric that separated you from the chill of his flesh. His lips were pursed, his mind otherwise occupied. You supposed this was his way of coping. If only he’d turned you when he had the chance.

The arrival was quicker than you had hoped. Before you knew it, you were within the terracotta walls of the city, and Demetri grew more and more agitated. Surprisingly, you were the calm party. Your mind had been racing, humoring impossible escape plans, toying with the idea of evading death. You were whisked from the car, Demetri’s hands pulling you swiftly into his arms, his hands clinging tightly to the clothing on your back. He whispered the softest apologies into your hair, his voice broken by pain. You froze momentarily before thawing in his embrace, your hands spreading along his back, holding him against you for however much longer you were able. You inhaled the delicious scent of him, burying your face into his chest, listening to the sound of his breath. He pulled away, his hands cradling your face, and his lips were upon your own, if only briefly, with a passion you had never experienced from him. You were torn apart, all too soon, by the arrival of Jane.

“Come. Aro is waiting.” Demetri held you close to his chest, his positioning clearly protective, his eyes hard on Jane’s. She, unmoved by his stare, turned to Nikolai, her full lips upturning with a smile. “You may want to bring a smock.” You had never heard Demetri growl before, but the sound that erupted from his chest couldn’t have been called anything else. Jane smirked, turning on her heel without so much as a glance in your direction, and began leading the way to the Volturi’s throne room. Demetri never once released you from his grasp. You journeyed down the familiar halls, beyond the reception desk (there was a new hire, of course; you’d been gone long enough for them to tire of her… just as they were tired of you), and through the massive doors that lead to the place of your execution. Aro was standing, of course, his hands clasped with anticipation, while Caius and Marcus sat in their respective thrones behind him. He beamed joyfully at the sight of you, though Demetri did not relax to see his employer in such a good mood. You both knew better than to believe a moment of his smile.

“Ah, if it isn’t my dolce ragazza! It is so good to see you… and to hear your lovely heart beating.” Aro’s nod to your mortality did not go unnoticed. He bowed his head in Demetri’s direction, silently ordering him to step away from your side. He hesitated, but Aro would not break eye contact. Demetri pressed his lips to your cheek, a lingering kiss, before reluctantly stepping away from your side. Aro traveled down the steps to meet you on the open floor, pausing over the metal drain at the center of the room. “Now, I understand you were the subject of a rather unfortunate attack while on business in Romania, is that right?” You nodded, never breaking your hold on his strange, clouded eyes. You would not give this man the pleasure of watching a whimpering victim. Aro continued, his voice clear, echoing from the marble that encased you in the room. “You were bitten, or so I have been informed, by two Romanian criminals. The criminals were executed, and the venom removed from your blood by none other than our talented Demetri,” he gestured to your lover, his body stiff, his eyes locked on Aro’s, watching for the slightest of movements. “It is a wonder he did not allow you to become like us. You know a great deal about our kind, enough to decide whether or not you wish to join us.“ Caius began to remark on just how much knowledge you possessed, but a look from Aro silenced him. “You have given it some thought, correct?”

“I have,” you replied, watching as Aro inclined his head, waiting for you to continue. “I have given it a good deal of thought, and I have discussed it at length with Demetri. He will not change me himself.” Aro’s features took on a mask of disappointment, his brow creasing with believable sadness. “He has his circumstances, and he has refused to change me twice since leaving for Romania.” Demetri straightened in your peripheral, his jaw clenching with anger.

“I have every intention of changing her, Aro. The timing was not right. Should I have bitten her in a crowded hospital, expose myself? Should I have allowed her to be changed by strangers? Romanian strangers?” You turned to face him fully, your stare hard on his. His brow furrowed, reading something in your eyes that you had yet to state, his confusion obvious.

“Yes. You should have,” you turned your attention back to Aro, leaving Demetri reeling as he struggled to comprehend your expression. “I understand you mean to kill me here, Aro. I’m no fool. I would like to offer you a different course of action.” Demetri took a step in your direction, his posture demonstrating his uncertainty of what you were about to say. “Demetri will not change me himself. I would like to humbly request that you do it. Now.” He was before you in an instant, standing between you and Aro, his back to his leader. His hands closed around your shoulders, his eyes burning brightly mere inches from your own, his expression furious.

No, Y/n,” he growled, his expression cracking to reveal the horror behind his eyes. You wriggled free from him, his hands falling slack by his sides, your eyes burning into his.

“It’s too late for this, Demetri.” You redirected your gaze to lock on Aro once more. “If you see potential in me, any at all, all I ask is to be changed.” Aro opened his mouth to make his reply, but Demetri’s hands were on your shoulders once more, his chest pressing firmly against your back. He moved with the speed and precision of an experienced hunter, shocking all those in attendance, yourself included. With one hand, he tilted your head to the side, exposing your neck to him, his voice a mere breath against your skin.

“Forgive me,” he whispered, his movements far too quick, too precisely calculated, for anyone to move in opposition. He sunk his teeth deep within your neck, your vision blurring as his venom spread through your veins, burning all the while. You collapsed to the marble below, your fall broken only by Demetri’s hold on you, his body cradling yours as he knelt before Aro. You saw nothing, heard nothing but fire, but you were conscious enough to realize you were being lifted and removed from the room, your shrieks of agony stifled by a hand held firmly over your mouth. Demetri’s voice filtered in and out of your mind, his hands every so often creeping through the fields of flames to caress your skin as your body convulsed. “Forgive me.”

I’ve said it plenty times before, and I’m more than happy to say it all again. Sigrid’s Don’t Kill My Vibe is one of the year’s best debuts, and the 20 year old Norwegian singer songwriter is undoubtedly one of the most charismatic and magnetic talents to watch right now. The popping jam has received its first official remix treatments this past week, and I can never resist a good Gryffin shake up when it comes to ravishing dance edits. The producer and multi-instrumentalist gives Don’t Kill My Vibe a full bodied sound with his luminous lifting interpretation. There’s a dreamy chromatic ambiance to Gryffin’s Don’t Kill My Vibe that evokes Tycho, but expanded by the vibrant robustness of progressive house and the thrilling ripples of future bass. You can revisit the hit original, here.
