though someone may like it

“Don’t view all that you experience in life through lenses darkened by the scars of abuse. There is so much in life that is beautiful.[…] Your depression will be converted to peace and assurance. You will close an ugly chapter and open volumes of happiness.”
–Richard G. Scott

Tem. XVII; the situation out west.

Translating my mom’s response to her friend, who had asked me if I’m dating anyone:

“(name of friend who will only be a friend)” = I REALLY WANT YOU TO DATE THIS PERSON.

“I know you don’t feel that way.” = But I’m gonna ignore it anyway…

“Oh, he’s very nice, dependable…something girls her age don’t find attractive just yet.” = My daughter gives off the impression of shallowness and will probably date an asshole down the line, but at least will be smokin’ hot.

“Maybe when the girls are ending their twenties and are looking to settle down, then he’ll seem attractive.” = Maybe when my daughter is Old enough, she will FINALLY go to this man, who is cursed to be seen as unattractive until desperate women come begging for a domestic life.

“Poor guy.” = PITY WILL INSPIRE LOVE.

How Alola is like the Galapagos

So with the Alola region, Pokemon has introduced a few interesting biological concepts that I would like to point out, though someone may have done it already.

First I’ll start by explaining the title of this post. Oricorio is a secondary flying type pokemon with variations in its primary type, based on what type of nectar it consumes (which varies on each island in Alola).

Now when exploring the Galapagos Islands, Darwin noted the differences in the local finch population, which eventually led him to develop his theory on evolution. Features of the finches living on each individual island had changed so it could adapt and fit a particular niche in the environment of that island and survive (see below).

We see this developed further with the release of the new Pokemon forms. Sandshrew, Sandslash, Vulpix and Ninetales all adapted to the new environments they now had to occupy (snowy mountains), as they had few niches available to them, being introduced species. Exeggutor on the other hand has flourished in the tropical environment growing tall. Perhaps it grew a fourth head on it’s tail to defends it’s now large body.

Anyway, those are my thoughts on the new Pokemon announced this time around. Let me know your thoughts?

Medical or Science, not Medical and Science

I’ve seen this three times in the past month, so I guess it needs to be said…

While the Medical division is considered a part of Science, they operate under two different branches. All of science is under Mr. Spock, and all of medical is under Doctor McCoy. Neither of them are required to report to the other, just as no member of Medical reports to Spock and no member of Sciences (outside of Medical) reports to Dr. McCoy.

As stated in the ‘one job’ post on starfleetrecruiters , even if your character has studies several fields, they would only be given a single post on a starship.

So if you’re a nurse, you’re not also a botanist, even if you’ve studied both. If you’re an engineer, you’re not also a linguist, even if you know 6 languages. Etc.

You don’t hire one person for two jobs, you hire two people for two jobs, even if one person has the qualifications for two, because they can’t do both at once.

(My lovely doctor mentioned, also, that medical does have it’s own research lab.)
