The Signs as Writers
  • ♈️ Aries:They’ve been writing since they were really young. They are always working on a project, or attempting some crazy challenge. They don’t shy away from trying out new genres or writing styles. Once they want to do something, there’s no way to stop them.
  • ♉️ Taurus:They may appear to have a controlled exterior, but all of that changes the instant you ask them about their characters. They write the most lovable & sweet characters, and they also happen to be their own #1 biggest fan— so beware talking smack about their babies.
  • ♊️ Gemini:They’re always juggling several projects at the same time. They write fiction and enjoy it, but they do much more. They can be spotted writing the comic-book version of one of their previous works, or typing up a movie script. Prolific doesn’t even begin to describe them.
  • ♋️ Cancer:Their storytelling is spontaneous, almost volatile, and that is what makes their books so fun to read. There’s no telling where their stories will go or what will happen next. For them, what matters most is not the journey— but the adventure!
  • ♌️ Leo:They know their characters better than anyone else. Sometimes they may spend more time writing backstories (and doing world-building) than actually writing the book, but at the end it’s all worth it. That’s why their characters feel like real people.
  • ♍️ Virgo:Their two best friends are subtlety and foreshadowing. They love leaving clues in the background, hints of what will be happening later in the story. They live for astute readers and, if you pay attention, you will realize there is more going on than you could’ve ever expected.
  • ♎️ Libra:Some writers are afraid of having multiple points of view, not them. They have tons of POVs, and they all get their chance under the spotlight. Sometimes their antagonists get the most character development, and that’s why they don’t feel like “villains.”
  • ♏️ Scorpio:They use everything in their power to strike the reader right in the *feels*. They’re the masters of cliffhangers and plot-twists. It's not about playing dirty, it’s about getting a reaction out of you. Character deaths should be expected, though they will still surprise you every damn time.
  • ♐️ Sagittarius:They don’t simply just *write* a book, they immerse themselves in the process. They’re dedicated researchers, and are known to go as far as changing their entire surroundings to match the ‘feel’ of the story they’re currently working on.
  • ♑️ Capricorn:They don’t write one-shots. Everything (and yes they do mean *everything*) they write is part of a series or their overarching mega-macro-universe. Expect to see cameos, familiar faces, and recurring themes across all their books!
  • ♒️ Aquarius:With them, no idea is too strange or far-fetched. They can take anything and spin it into a story. Mixing genres, and making new ones along the way, is all par for the course. Best of all— is that their crazy story ideas always work.
  • ♓️ Pisces:Everything they write is magical. They can make the most mundane story feel bigger-than-life and, when it comes to creating breath-taking worlds & settings, there’s simply no better. Be careful, though, because if given the chance they *will* make you believe that magic is real.

I have bad news and good news.

Bad news first.

1. The Raven King’s publication date is being moved to February 2016.

2. This is because I specifically asked readers to record endless fan versions of the Murder Squash song and that has yet to happen.

3. #2 is a lie.

4. It is actually because no one has yet brought a murdered-out Dodge Viper to any of my signings for me to drive.

5. #4 is also a lie.

6. The real reason is because these books take a long time. Not so much in the drafting, but in the editing. Lover once told me that the word recursive had been invented to describe holding a conversation with me; another friend told me that recursive was how she’d describe the Raven Cycle books. I delight in writing these books so that they reward the reread, so that every sentence in them points to another sentence two books before. I had allowed the same amount of time for this process as The Dream Thieves (the longest of the Raven Cycle books so far). I guessed wrong. In fact, I sunk (sank?)(had sunk?)(sonk) more drafting and editing time into this draft than any of the other Raven Cycle books. Unfortunately, the vagaries of publication season schedules means that even asking for just a few more weeks of editorial time sometimes shifts the publication date far more than a few weeks. This is partly because malevolent elf formations discourage author events in December and seasonal ennui makes it impossible to tour an author during January, and partly because of mysterious algorithms that dictate the movements of publishing professionals in the colder months. So when I said, “Scholastic, may I have three more weeks and a Ferrari F12?” they replied, “You may have three more weeks and a rental Nissan Altima and also your publication date is now the end of February.” You see that both you and I have to live with compromise and disappointment.

7. I’m not actually very sorry. I’m sorry to not hand you guys a book at the end of September, but I needed that extra time, and I’m glad that Scholastic was amiable about giving it to me. I do think The Raven King is my favorite in the series. Also, let the record show that I’ve been a very timely author to this point, so hopefully you can forgive 16 months between books instead of 11 this one time.

7. I’ve actually been sitting on this news for a bit, but I was hoping to have a cover to show you at the same time, because it’s always nice to be able to start a post with “I have bad news and good news” instead of just “I have bad news and a rental Nissan Altima.” But it turns out that Adam Doyle hasn’t finished the cover yet, presumably because he’s also still waiting for a murdered-out Dodge Viper or the Murder Squash song. So for the good news part, I will instead share with you the first line of the last book instead.

*at this point, the publication date has only been updated in bookseller database, but the news has been trickling out all weekend, so I figured I’d bite the bullet instead of waiting for online retailers to update.
What I Learnt Writing Oranje | Jack Lusted

Yesterday I clicked the publish button on my first book, Oranje. It’s been a long time coming, and the process has definitely been one that’s taught me a lot, and I wanted to share that information with everyone. Note: this is what worked for me and my writing process, so your mileage may vary, but some of the tips I think are good for everyone who writes or self-publishes.

  • Outlining helps make sense of the plot – This I think especially applies with series or longer works. Oranje is 112,000 words and the first in a four part series. Outlining the book in advance, a few bullet points per chapter, has helped me keep track of all the story threads and make sure they all progressed properly. It’s also meant I can dive straight into book 2 as I know where I need to go with the story.
  • First drafts allow you to suck – The important thing about a first draft is getting to the end. It’s very difficult to judge the story of a book without having the whole thing in front of you to look at. Quality should not be a concern for the first draft, get the words on the page, get to the end, and then see what needs to be changed or adjusted.
  • Second drafts are for story – This is where you can get everything sorted out. Sure your first draft might have story lines that go nowhere, or sections that circle and meander around. That’s fine. The second draft is where you sort it out and nail down the story. Improving the quality of the prose and writing is always good, but until you’ve got the story sorted you might end up editing stuff you end up removing anyway.
  • Have other people read your work – Art does not exist in a vacuum, and books are no exception. The story might be perfectly clear and understandable to you because it lives in your head, but to others it might be confusing or difficult to understand. Giving your story to people you trust to read can help give you the feedback to push the book a few more notches up the quality ladder.
  • Editors improve the quality of your writing and also the story – First, if you’re self-publishing, hire an editor, you should be aiming to put the highest quality work you can. They help by not only improving your prose and writing, but they will likely be the first person to really read your work with a thoroughly critical eye. Listen to what they say, but also remember what you were aiming for with your story as well.
  • Proofreaders are a must – The more eyes you get to go over your book once it’s finished, the fewer errors there will be in it when it’s released. It’s that simple. People will always miss some errors when reading, the best way to catch them is to have many eyeballs go over it.
  • Great covers help show the quality of your work and help advertise the book – Another bit of advice more for authors going the self-publishing route. If you want your work to look professional, you need a professional cover as well. It can be expensive at times, but the money you invest in a good cover will be seen in the quality of what you end up with. I used Jason Gurley, who’s also done covers for Hugh Howey.
  • The book description is vital – You can have the best book in the world, but if the description sucks very few people will buy it. This is the second hook to get people to read your work, after the cover. Spend enough time working on it, and seek feedback on others. You want something that shows what the story is without going into too much detail, you want to make someone want to read more.

As I said at the start of this post, this is what worked for me, and enabled me to write and finish my first ever book. This advice won’t work for everyone, but I hope it helps some people with your writing. Thank you for reading.

If anyone’s interested in checking out my book, you can find links to it on the various Amazon stores here.

Changes to this blog (+ leaving the phandom)

Hey, frens!

So, I think most people have realized by now that I decided to take a few steps to change this blog from what it originally was. When I first conceived this blog, it was a place to post about D&P only, because it was my new Thing and it was taking up too much space on my main blog, so I figured that having a fandom-specific blog would be a good idea. And it was, for a long time. I can say I had some great times here in this community, despite all the bad moments I’m sure you all have seen.

I don’t feel like I fit in the phandom anymore for a number of reasons and that’s why I decided to take some definite steps to move this blog away from a phan blog into something more general. Some people have asked about it (and I don’t mind answering if you have any further questions, there’s also a few stuff in my opinions tag), but basically I disagree with a lot of decision D&P have made recently and their content doesn’t bring me the same enjoyment it used to. Plus, they haven’t been posting enough anyway to keep this blog running like it used to, especially since there’s more touring ahead of us.

I guess I can say running this blog the way it was before was getting to be more of a chore than a pleasure to me. The only thing that kept me here was all the history I had and the difficult time I had letting go of the good parts of it. But I realized I don’t really have to let go of the good times or anything silly like that.

I can keep this blog and make it into something that makes me happy and you guys get to decide if it’s something you want to see or not. No hurt feelings either way. It’s been an amazing journey and I had some great times, but it’s definitely time for me to broaden this blog’s horizons. Maybe one day, if things change, I’ll go back to being a phan blog. It’s hard for me to continue calling myself a part of this community as it stands now.

This doesn’t mean I don’t like/watch Dan and Phil anymore, I just toned it down a lot. I still love them and I will continue to watch their videos casually (and reblog some stuff about them from time to time, why not?), but it won’t be what this blog is about anymore. I also intend to continue to read (and rec) phanfiction because I honestly love the creativity from this community. And, if you’ll still have me, I’d still love to continue to be a phanfic writer, maybe write more AUs and stuff like that. I think I can make it work and I love having people who want to read it still. I feel like I have more stories to tell.

Anyway, this isn’t a goodbye. But if you’re here only for the phan, it might as well be. This is a general youtubers blog now and I intend to blog about some of the other creators I’ve enjoyed for a while (and you can see most of them already by the posts I’ve been reblogging but yeah there’s probably more that you’ll find out along the way). I think it’s exciting to bring some variety to the content and I feel happier with this blog than I’ve felt in a long time! I hope you’ll stay in for the ride, but, again, if this isn’t your cup of tea you’re totally free to go <3 I’ll understand.

And thank you to the phandom. It may be pretty broken at the moment (and I’ll be the first to say that it’s REALLY bad right now like omg), but it’s been a (albeit a bit dysfunctional) home for me and so many others. I made some amazing friends who I love very dearly and met so many special incredible people in this community. Thank you! <3 And I’m truly sorry it has to end this way.

anonymous asked:

An ISFJ and an INFP in a relationship?

Okay. I’m going to try to get back into this. *Crack knuckles* *Cracks back* *Cracks neck* *Cracks ear bones and shit*

Let’s do it.

INFP stretches and takes off her headphones with a satisfied smile, gets up from her computer and quietly enters the hallway from his workspace. Walking toward the centre of the house, she passes ISFJ who is walking in the opposite direction carrying a basket of laundry to another room.

ISFJ: ^o^

INFP: *Double takes*

INFP: Wait, what??

ISFJ: *Stops in tracks*

ISFJ: What… er, what is it?

INFP: I didn’t…

INFP: How long have you been here?

ISFJ: Are you…

ISFJ: INFP, I spent the night.

ISFJ: We spent the night together.

ISFJ: You… it was your idea.

INFP: *Gazes off in the distance, trying to remember*

INFP: Are you sure?

ISFJ: ?? ???? ?? W  hat?

ISFJ: Yes! I’m very sure!

INFP: Hmm…

INFP: I don’t know, I feel like that was a few days ago.

INFP: Oh, hey, laundry!

ISFJ: Oh, goodness.

INFP: Whose is that?

ISFJ: Mine. I did yours a little earlier.

INFP: Oh awesome!

INFP: *Gives ISFJ an excited kiss*

INFP: You’re the best, thank you!

ISFJ: Heh, wow, yeah, of course!

ISFJ: It’s no problem, really!

ISFJ: I’m– glad you appreciate all of that, and I’m not just doing it for, nothing, I guess.

INFP: No, yeah, totally. I have such a hard time doing things like that because I get so easily preoccupied with other things. I don’t know how you do it.

ISFJ: Haha, yes, I know, INFP. But I like helping you!

INFP: Hey, you know what, since you’re here today,

ISFJ: (I swear to you I always was. OTL)

INFP: Do you want to go somewhere and do something today?

ISFJ: Um. Well, I hadn’t really planned on it but, okay.

ISFJ: Where do you want to go? c:

INFP: *Shrugs*

INFP: I don’t know yet!

INFP: We’ll figure it out, though. If you think of anything let me know!

ISFJ: Oh, goodness. Okay, yes, I’ll help you figure something out, haha.

INFP: *Spontaneously remembers what he drew for ISFJ on his computer*

INFP: I’m going to find something to eat, but hey, I did something cool to my computer! It’s on right now, you should check it out.

ISFJ: For sure. :)

ISFJ continues down the hall, leaving INFP and sets the basket down in the bedroom. Afterwards, ISFJ shifts to the next room over to look at INFP’s computer. On the screen is a cartoon-esque, autumn landscape with a small piece of writing at the bottom that read “You’re always bright just like the sun, and yet, somehow, even that holds no candle to you.”

Fun fact: I head-cannon INFPs as dorky (possible even cheesy), hopeless romantics.

LONG POST: future RDJ projects

Now that I’ve gotten your attention– I decided to make this list partly for my benefit, to pass time while awaiting any word regarding RDJ’s next film.

It’s been pretty frustrating in that since Team Downey’s founding (it very much seems as though RDJ only considers Marvel or Team Downey projects), film acquisitions get announced, then languish in development for years. Hardly anything has come into fruition (the exception being The Judge).

Anyway, below are thoughts about thirteen fourteen different Team Downey projects. I also added a “Stark Scale”– which is basically me trying to see how Stark-like is the character that RDJ may potentially play.  By that, is the character a “classic RDJ” – i.e., smart, very charming, wise-cracking, quippy?

++ Pinocchio ++

INVOLVEMENT: actor, producer, script credit
PREMISE: A take on the Pinocchio story but from Geppetto’s perspective
STATUS: Multiple script drafts; Paul Thomas Anderson is writing the latest take and may potentially direct.
DEVELOPMENT:  Announced in January 2012 as a Tim Burton project for Warner Bros with a script from Bryan Fuller, with RDJ being courted to star. Jane Goldman was subsequently brought in to rework the script. Burton eventually left due to scheduling conflicts but RDJ remained attached, now also as a producer. At one point Ben Stiller was loosely rumored to be a potential director.
STARK SCALE:  5/10 — he’ll be playing Geppetto.  Like Stark, he creates his own son and is Italian. (Stark is partly Italian, right?)
OP THOUGHTS: Out of all of his potential projects, this one has the most activity, especially after the PTA announcement two months ago.  Barring any new, unexpected film announcement, this may be his next project.  As much as I’m yearning to see RDJ in smaller films, I’m actually ok with him doing blockbusters as long as they’re enjoyable (ex. Sherlock Holmes franchise).  PTA is a highly-admired filmmaker but he doesn’t do this sort of film.  And this is assuming he’ll actually direct. Personally, I think the chances of that are decent since he and RDJ are very good friends and they’ve been looking to do a project together. Plus, PTA has really young kids and it becomes one of those things where he probably wants to do something that his kids can watch.  If done right, this could be great.  They gotta hurry though, in that there is a competing live-action Pinocchio film from Disney that is being planned.

I planned to this when I hit 2k, but was so busy with uni and assignments being co-incidentally due at the same time that I couldn’t get to this till now. It’s been 4 months since my last follow forever and whoa, a lot has changed since then. I descended into the life of multifandom trash and followed way more blogs.

I’m honestly pretty bad at expressing my feelings, but I want to thank everyone who follows me, whether you’re from before I switched to a k-pop blog, or you literally followed 2 minutes ago. I appreciate every single one of you, and read every single tag. Reading things like ‘these gifs are so nice’ actually brighten my day so much and motivate me to keep creating content. I also want to extend my thanks to all the blogs I follow, who fill my dash with a+ content and also inspire me to keep creating.

Rock and Riot update notice

Hey everyone, I hate to do it, but I’ll be reducing RNR updates to once a week for the next few weeks (I’m not sure how long.) I will try to return to bi-weekly updates as soon as I can. Rock and Riot will now update only on Tuesdays until further notice! Luckily I have 6 pages left in my drafts, so I don’t have to put the comic on Hiatus.

My reasoning is that I have been bogged down with multiple projects for class, which has been taking all of my attention and time. I have also been going through a lot of personal issues which has left me unmotivated to work on my comic (and when I do, it becomes extremely draining). I’ve been feeling this way since January, but I tried to keep pushing through for as long as possible. Some of you may have noticed I hardly continued answering the ask blog, which is because I can barely draw the comic let alone extra content. I’ve also been extremely slack with answering messages on tumblr and reblogging fan content, and I definitely do not have the time/energy to be organizing the 2nd volume, which should have been due to be on sale by the end of this chapter.

So  for now I hope to just push through with my work that needs to be done and leave this off my mind, so I can feel happy/excited to come back to it.

Thank you for understanding!  ♥

I meant to do this somewhere in december 2013 but then I didn’t so shoutout to my friend Gaby whose art i was gonna use but then i didn’t cause it was christmas-oriented and now its too late and yeah i’m so sorry im a lazy idiot!! instead full credit to the artists: for elsa and percy

I hope you all continue to put up with me and my lethargic purple princess of a muse!

Oh my god it happened again

BUT this means it’s time for me to make my 2nd follow forever after a long time since the last one! It’s been… two years already I’d say, since the 7th of September, 2014, the day I joined the Koei Tumblr fandom all by myself. A lot has happened in these two last years, I met many awesome people, some are gone now but some are still here luckily, there were rough times too, that’s when I learned that a fandom is a double-edged sword and you can even get hurt sometimes.

However, I was able to make beautiful friends, I’ve had so much fun roleplaying as my favorite character from Dynasty Warriors, and to be able to be in a community directed to my favorite videogame is a great joy and it gives me so much motivation to keep going! I never thought I’d be able to hit this milestone, my boy Quan has grown so much ever since I made this blog, and I’m so proud of all the development and stuff I’ve achieved so far! But I wouldn’t have been able to do that without the help of all the amazing people who supported me during all this time!

So, coming up next, here’s a shoutout to all the people who really deserve it:

Parallels #WhereisJinsOscar

Also I would like to apologize for updated so late on this.. In all honesty I had a real difficult time wrapping my head around the concepts of this film because they left it so open ended of course big hit would do this that I was not happy with my draft analysis and had to redo this like 346275 times. But now I got it, or at least I think I do, so let’s begin.

Okay so we start off with Jin in a dining room and he pulls out what seems to be a head piece, a parallel similar to a theme seem in BTS Begin..

However, I don’t think this parallel has much to relate with it for some reason. Like if you’ve seen the VCR’s for BTS Begin which eventually lead to the Red Bullet series, Jin is expected to exterminate members and is sellout within the group.. thus his head piece.

But personally I view it as symbolism for “a voice in your head”. And maybe I might be overthinking it, but since the purpose of a head piece is to have someone tell you what to do, it sorta works perfectly with an idea I have about this film and what I’ve said since the beginning of my analyses when he takes it out:

That this short film series symbolizes letting go/moving forward in independence, and let me explain why:

Here are all instances that relate to previous concepts whether it was from I NEED U, RUN, Young Forever, or the 6 other short films. But I noticed that something can be seen in common with all these parallels and that is that they all can connect to the theme of moving on/letting go..

Like, the apple? Jin drops it. The camera? People take photos to preserve memories. Jin turning around like Jungkook does in I NEED U and RUN? Looking behind your shoulder can symbolize looking what you’re leaving behind. Burning flowers? Moving on from innocence and purity. Opening the windows? Allowing a new day to start.

Also the fact that after Jin walks away from the paintings, piano, and chained closet (all references to the prior films) the lyrics from Move show up,

we cried a lot and we laughed a lot but it was all so beautiful

followed by a new song with the lyrics that specifically give away the theme of “moving on”

I want to stay

I want to dream more

But it’s time to leave.

Okay okay jane, but how does this then relate to Demian?

I’ll be honest I had a hard time trying to figure this out until I watched the film for like the 53rd time and remembered a scene in a book that matched Jin’s behavior:

Then I (Sinclair) saw Max (Demian) slumped on a stool by the curtained window, looking oddly changed, and it flashed through me: You’ve seen this before! His arms hung limp, hands in his lap, his head bent slightly forward, and his eyes, though open, were unseeing and dead;[..] When, hours later, I returned wet and wind-blown, Demian himself opened the door. [..] “Did you see something?” “Yes. I saw a picture in the clouds, quite clearly for a moment. ” “What kind of picture?” “It was a bird. ” “The sparrow hawk? Your dream bird?” “Yes, it was my sparrow hawk.”

ummmm familiar much?

Now how does this fit with independence? Well, in the scene I just recalled Demian is actually explaining his dreams to Sinclair and how he can feel something is coming– which turns out to be a breakout of war but that detail isn’t of much importance right now. What struck to me was this line that Demian tells Sinclair..

“I differentiate quite sharply between dreams that reveal movements within my own soul and the other, far rarer dreams in which the fate of all mankind suggests itself…[..] Nothing can be born without first dying ”

While BTS may not be suggesting war is near the future, what could be more life changing then independence in adulthood? And isn’t the theme throughout the book talking about finding yourself through various references about rebirth, breaking social standards, and reflections?

If anything, BTS has hinted throughout all 7 films themes that concur with doing things on your own.

Even the title WINGS could be a hint for all we know, because aren’t they used by animals once they are ready to be independent?

And personally choosing Jin as the last character was almost sort of perfect because he is the oldest member..So yeah, maybe the members were a representation of different stages of Sinclair, and Jin, was the final stage of Sinclair. The stage where Sinclair finally has realized that what makes him “him” is due to his past experiences, and must now move forward.

Rating: PG

Original Idea: This thing.

Notes: (Masterlist) ( @steverogersnotebook ) ( @whydouwantaname ) I promised I’d write this once finals were over. And that is what I have done. And let me tell you, this one is long. (Not as long as Winter Captain, but long.) I’ve definitely written longer one-shots, but I loved this one. Thanks for the inspiration. (This opening bit has been sitting in my drafts for ages.)

“Are you saying this thing can travel through time?” Steve demanded, looking at the metal box in the abandoned HYDRA base in Sokovia.

Wanda shrugged. “That was its original purpose. I do not know if it ever actually achieved that aim, but that was its intention,” she remarked. Steve stared at the machine for several moment. This could be it. The key to stopping everything before it started. The box in front of him could save… everyone.

He took a step forward.

“Steve, no,” Wanda warned. “It was never tested! It could kill you!”

“But it could also save everything!” Steve murmured quietly. Ignoring the younger twin’s protests, he opened the box and clambered in. It was a bit cramped for his bulky frame, but he didn’t care.

He flicked the knobs until he reached the desired date. January 4, 1945.

A day before Bucky fell off the train.

Steve hit the green button and the small box started to shake violently. He could hear Wanda calling out to him, sounding scared. But he continued to ignore her. This was something he was willing to risk if it mean restoring peace.

And saving Bucky from HYDRA.

After what felt like three days—but really wasn’t and Steve knew it—the shaking stopped. The captain opened the small door and unfolded himself out of the tiny cavity.

The first thing he saw was snow.

The second thing he saw was a soldiers’ camp nearby.

The third was the moon brightly shining from the black sky.

Adjusting his shield on his back, he dodged behind some trees, not wanting to be seen. He peered between the leaves and raised his eyebrows. Oh wow, he thought, impressed and pleasantly surprised. I actually did it. The camp a few yards away wasn’t populated with just any small unit of soldiers with no backup anywhere nearby.

It was the Howling Commandos’ camp.

Steve smirked to himself. He hadn’t seen those faces with his own eyes in years. Seventy to be precise, but he spent most of those in the ice. It felt like he’d only left them four, maybe five years ago. There was Monty, Dum-Dum, Jim, Gabe—

And Bucky—who was sitting next to Steve’s younger self.

Steve froze, entire body going rigid. Bucky…

The brunet had laugh lines around his eyes. He was smiling—heck, he was laughing. Steve’s heartstrings tugged painfully. It had felt like so long since he’d heard his best friend’s laugh. It reminded him of… well. The forties.

He snapped back behind the tree as the younger version of himself turned to look around.

“Alright, guys. Go to sleep. I’ve got first watch,” younger Steve told the Commandos.

“I can take first,” Bucky put in. “You took first last night.”

From behind the tree, only listening now, Steve smiled. He remembered when Bucky would do that.

“It’s fine. Kinda wanna be awake with just my thoughts for a while,” the younger Steve commented. Older Steve could practically see Bucky’s shrug, imagined the brunet holding his belt buckle with both hands the way he always had when he was wearing his uniform. Steve smiled and snuck a peek around the tree trunk. Bucky had walked off and was settling down on his bedroll.

About an hour into his watch, the young Steve got up from the tree stump he’d been sitting on and started to walk.

Towards where Steve was hiding.

A few choice words ran through Steve’s head. Maybe I could explain it to him… he thought. But a little farther away from the camp so no one will hear. He edged around the tree until younger Steve had passed and then carefully matched his movements from two paces behind, including where his boots fell so that there would only be one set of footprints and the sound of only one man walking. He knew how good his senses were.

He followed his younger self for several yards, wondering where he was going. Both had their shields on their arms after forties-Steve had taken his off of his back and twenty-first-century Steve had copied him.

Young Steve whirled around, moving to whack Older Steve with his shield—which Steve blocked with his shield. A loud CLANG! reverberated through the trees “Put that thing down you’re going to hurt yourself,” he snapped irritably. Young Steve recovered from the confusion of seeing himself—just an older, wearier version—pretty quickly and he obviously didn’t like being ordered around like that. He grabbed Steve’s shield, twisted it and slammed Steve in the gut with the rim of his shield. Older Steve stumbled backwards before collapsing into the snow.

“Why are you following me? What kind of imposter are you?” the younger version of Steve demanded, holding Steve down by planting his knee into his chest. It made Steve snort. He’d been lost in the future for so long that he’d almost forgotten how much of a pretentious punk he’d been in the forties.

“I’m not an imposter. I’m from the future. I’m trying to save Bucky.”

Younger-Steve’s eyes widened. “Why? What happens to Bucky? How far into the future are you from?!” He looked horrified.

“I can’t tell you that. Far enough to know what happens after the next few days.” He shoved his younger self off of him. “Put that thing away, you’re going to hurt someone,” he snapped again, yanking his shield back out of the younger man’s grip. Forties-Steve stared at him, still looking absolutely horrified. “If you don’t let me help you, Bucky’s not gonna die, but he’s going to suffer a fate far worse than death—at the hands of HYDRA.”

Forties-Steve froze, face stuck in horror. “What kind of fate?”

“They’re going to brainwash him, wipe his memories, and then turn him into an assassin.”

“No…” younger Steve whispered, face still looking absolutely horrified.

“Yeah. And if you don’t help me, it’ll happen all over again.”

Younger Steve sat down in the snow, staring at the older version of him. “How do we save him?” he finally asked, casting a glance through the sparse trees to the camp where the Commandos were sleeping.

“When you pull him behind you to shield him from a HYDRA gun, deflect the blast straight forward, rather than your right. If you deflect it to your right, it will blow a hole in the side of the train that he’ll fall out of. Not to mention that directing the blast that way throws you to the other side of the train from him and you’re not fast enough to protect him again. So when you pull him behind you, stand your ground. The shield should absorb most of the impact and send the blast forward if you do it right.”

“When will this be?”

“And I’ll be on a train.”

“You’ll understand when you get there.”

“And where are you going to be?”

“In case he does fall, I’m going to be in the ravine to find him before the Russians do.”

“Then what?”

“Then, I’ll return him to you. And when you go to the hangar—again, you’ll understand when you get there—make sure Bucky gets on that plane with you.”

“That one I’m not going to tell you. It’d spoil all the… fun.”

“And what about you?”

“Once I make sure you two both get on that plane, I’m returning to the future.”

“Steve?” a voice called. It was Bucky. Older Steve jackknifed to his feet and disappeared up a tree and into the shadows as a very tired Sergeant Barnes staggered upon younger Steve. “What are you doing? Who are you talking to?”

“Myself,” younger Steve answered—completely honestly.

“Well, it’s my turn to take watch. So go back and get some sleep.”

“Okay.” He gave Bucky a one-armed side-hug and they went back to camp. Once they were gone Steve dropped out of the tree, rolled, and straightened up. He silently made his way back to the weird time machine, crawled back into it, and set the controls for the next day, about an hour before the train with Zola on it would take Bucky away from Steve forever.

The machine shook again—not so hard and not so long this time—and he got out.

He wasn’t in the ravine, but he was really close.

Silently, he made his way through the woods and picked his way down the slope until he was at the bottom of the ravine. He looked around for anything he remembered—any landmarks so he wouldn’t have to search for too long to find Bucky—but everything was different from the bottom.

Steve cursed under his breath but felt a slight vibration tint the air. He started sprinting along the side of the ravine, knowing the train was on its way, barely avoiding slipping on the snow and falling into the river. He’d have to get as far in as possible in case Bucky fell off. I am not losing him like this again, he thought harshly. Even though he was far away from the outcropping the Commandos were sitting on so they could zip-line to the train, he could still hear the sound of the harpoon that shot the cable as it echoed down the frigid canyon.

Or, rather, it would have been frigid, had Steve been anyone but himself.

He could feel the vibrations getting more and more violent, washing his skin with uncomfortable tingling. The train was getting closer—as well as faster. He kept running.

After a moment, the train had arrived. There was no hole in the side of it and Gabe was making his way towards the front.

There was no sign of Bucky or Young Steve.

They must have gone inside a while ago, given Gabe’s position.

So they were probably fighting the HYDRA attackers.

Steve kept pace with the train for far longer than he thought he could. Adrenaline rushed through his veins and even though he could barely see what was happening, he saw Gabe crash through the glass at the front of the train—which had happened after Bucky fell originally.

Steve slid to a halt in the snow.

Bucky hadn’t fallen.

Steve sent a prayer of thanks towards the high heavens and started the run back to the time machine. It took a little longer because he was a little bit tired, but he’d done it. He’d saved Bucky from falling—from losing his arm—from becoming the Winter Soldier.

He climbed back into the box, folding himself into the cramped space and flicking the knobs for when the bomber plane would take off.

After a few moments of shaking and vibrating, Steve hauled himself out. He was in the huge hangar in the alps, near the door that would open the plane into the sky. He hid behind some crates and waited. All he needed to do was make sure Bucky made it onto the plane when his younger self did. Then, seventy years later, they would both be in the future and everything would be okay. Hopefully. Everything was still evolving.

He waited for almost two hours before the fighting broke out in the hangar. He stayed hidden but watched the Valkyrie start up and start cruising down the huge runway. Steve squished himself down farther.

When the bomber reached him, he saw the younger version of himself on the landing gear extending his hand out for someone in darker clothing on the car that Colonel Phillips was driving.

He leapt, grabbing Steve’s hand right as Phillips braked the car. The older Steve stared longingly at Peggy where she was staring off at the Valkyrie as it flew away. Steve relaxed against the wall for a moment, disbelief etched on the lines of his face. He stared at the crates across from him with his jaw slack.

I did it. I… did it, he thought.

Fighters were getting closer and closer to him. Quickly he climbed back into the box and set the controls for the day in the future he’d left only maybe ten hours before. Maybe.

The shaking and vibrations started up again. Steve didn’t know if he should laugh during the trip or cry. Both would be with relief but disbelief. What was going to change when he got back to the future? Was everything going to be okay? He thought he’d done it, but had he?

Because of the longer trip, the crazy shaking between times took longer. Not quite like the three-days that it felt going back to 45, but it took a long time anyway.

Steve settled on laughing and crying. Tears streamed down his face and he cackled.

Then the shaking stopped and he burst out of the cavity of a box to see Wanda looking at him with incredulity and anger. “Where have you been? You have been gone for two hours!” she demanded. Steve raised his eyebrows.

“I have?”

The door to the room burst open and another angry figure stormed in. “You ABSOLUTE IDIOT!” a furious voice shouted. Steve whirled around to see a tall man—but still shorter than him—looking ticked.

But he had short hair, carefully-styled. His eyes had laugh lines around bright eyes—and two normal arms.

Steve jumped over to his best friend and threw his arms around him. Bucky hugged him back, obviously confused. “What’s this for?” he asked.

“I’ll explain later,” Steve commented.

Bucky hesitated. “Okay?” he wondered.

Another man came in. Steve stared at him. They were still speaking? More must have changed than he thought.

Tony stared between them. “Hey, army bros, we should probably get going!”
