this wasn't what i was going to make

Another reason to stop ‘cringe culture’

I’m a teacher. Today I was covering for a grade 9 science class. Decent kids, if a bit rowdy, and didn’t want to do their work. Wtv, it was textbook work. Not the point.

1 girl (reminder that these kids are, like, 14/15) was doodling bust portraits (head & shoulders) in an art book. I had a squiz and asked her if they were her characters. She said they were and excitedly told me she had so many characters for this one story of hers. I laughed about how I wished I could draw mine, and moved on.

Later in the class, I hear her enthusiastically telling her friend all about her main OC - a gay kitsune prince with a tragic past. It was so, pure, classic Deviant Art: my first OC. And you know what? I loved it. I was just sitting there half overhearing, smiling to myself and glad that her friend was engaging and interested in her story and characters.

This is a girl who will become a creator. She will draw and write and imagine, get better and better. She’ll probably move past this stage and start making more nuanced characters (she was already lamenting she didn’t have enough girl OCs). But this is where she started. This is where so many of us started. I had a tiger catgirl, goth witch/sorceress OC in high school. I found my original design for her recently. Look what I create now.

Let kids be kids. Let them explore and invent and go wild and be cliche and make overpowered OCs. Let them have their anthropomorphic animal OCs. Let them try everything before they settle into maturity.

For fucks sake; let them have fun.

There’s no way I can know all of your circumstances, or your resolve. But for you to become number one without giving it your all, to completely reject your father… Right now, I think you should stop screwing around!

happy belated birthday selma!

Hospital Starters
  • [ Requested by Anon about a week ago. Warnings for blood, suicidal thoughts, and medical stuff. Thanks! : ]
  • "Hey, you're awake!"
  • "Where am I?"
  • "You hit your head. There was so much blood that I got scared."
  • "Don't try to get up. You're safe here."
  • "I hate this place..."
  • "How could you do this to yourself?"
  • "The world didn't give me a choice, and now, I'm suffering even more!"
  • "You really came..."
  • "I told you I would be here when you woke up."
  • "How many tests did they do on you?"
  • "If I wasn't drugged up, I could tell you the names of every test they do in this place."
  • "When are they going to let you leave?"
  • "They said that I'll be here for a few days. Maybe a week."
  • "What happened to you? You have so many things sticking out of you."
  • "That's what happens when you're dying."
  • "It's probably time to change those bandages..."
  • "You aren't in pain, are you?"
  • "You were in an accident. You almost didn't make it."
  • "That would explain why I feel terrible."
  • "I thought you were dead..."
  • "I'm not dead, am I?"
  • "I didn't know it was this bad..."
  • "I may not live much longer..."
  • "I'm dying..."
  • "You can't die! There has to be something they can do!"
  • "I'm too far gone for any surgery to fix me."
  • "I want you to know that I'll miss you most."
  • "Don't say that! I don't like it when you talk like this..."
  • "I just want it to happen so I don't have to think about it all the time."
  • "I wanted to say goodbye to you one more time."
  • "If you don't get some sleep, I'm going to hit this button and tell a nurse you're bothering me."
  • "Don't abuse that call button!"
  • "You know that button only works every five seconds, right?"
  • "Maybe if I push it hard enough, more will come out."
  • "I get to come home today."
  • "Did you fill out the release forms yet?"
  • "They hooked me up with a bunch of prescriptions. I'm gonna be high as a kite."
  • sjm: doesn't kill anyone in the inner circle
  • sjm: gives us exponentially more bi characters than we have ever had in her books. clearly listened to what the fandom wanted, and made one of the main characters bi.
  • sjm: starts using other words for skin color aside from tan
  • sjm: one of the main characters in biracial
  • sjm: explores other courts and fills them with poc
  • sjm: does world building and addresses specific questions the fandom had
  • sjm: writes enough of elucien and nessian to give us fic ideas and ensure that those ships stay interesting
  • sjm: doesn't force either traumatized archeron sister into a relationship with an over eager mate
  • sjm: makes sure this book is still feyre's book
  • sjm: also consciously sets up plot lines to be explores in the spin offs and introduces unresolved conflict to ensure that the series has somewhere to go
  • sjm: gives us heart pounding battle scenes
  • sjm: gives us smut like we clearly wanted
  • sjm: tells us about amren's backstory and makes it count in the end
  • sjm: introduces a ton of new characters, most of whom are wonderful
  • sjm: writes lovely conclusion to feysand's arc that had me weeping
  • y'all: this was the most trash book i've ever read, it was horrible, she didn't do anything i wanted, there wasn't enough of MY ship, she's a terrible writer, wtf.

Goryeo’s Best Dressed: Hae Soo as the King’s Woman

merry inktober !

So Chat Noir has the reputation in the Miraculous fandom for incurable punning, because Ladybug and Chat both make puns, but Ladybug occasionally rolls her eyes at his while he rolls with hers without comment, making incidents generally more memorable.

So I know the ‘Marinette hates puns’ interpretation is common, but.

What if Ladybug just thinks her puns are better.

Yes hello, Vetra’s backstory actually breaks my heart thinking about the stuff these poor girls had to go through. I gave you the cute, now you have to cry with me

Kool-aid Vase Incident | 17.08.17
  • Someone in chat: Talk about the vase thing.
  • Dan: Yeah, Phil what the hell is up with your kool-aid vase incident?
  • Phil: Right, let me explain...
  • Dan: Have you explained this?
  • Phil: NO! It was a...
  • Dan: Seriously, what is wrong with this guy? Explain it.
  • Phil: The kool-aid it said...
  • Dan: No, go back. Context.
  • Phil: In my video...
  • Dan: Which video?
  • Phil: My Sleepless Night With Phil...
  • Dan: This is why I interrupt Phil.
  • Phil: Yeah.
  • Dan: He leaves out... look, I let him start things 'cause I'm nice like that but if he just goes "the kool-aid went in this!" It's like look... they don't know what you're...
  • Phil: Let's rewind, sit by the fire, open the book and tell you a tale about the glass of the vase. Basically, in my Sleepless Night With Phil video, I was making kool-aid and the kool-aid said to prepare it in a large drink receptacle, so I thought what's large? None of these glasses, I'm going to use this massive glass.
  • Dan: It's... it wasn't a glass! It was a flower vase.
  • Phil: It was in the cupboard with all the glasses!
  • Dan: Was it?
  • Phil: Yes!
  • Dan: Why?
  • Phil: I don't know! I didn't put it there.
  • Dan: Didn't you?
  • Phil: I just thought it was a massive glass but it turns out it is a flower vase but it makes a really good drink. Do you know when you have a massive mug for a big hot chocolate if you're having one of those nights? You know?
  • Dan: *hesitant* Yeah... *laughs*
  • Phil: Yeah, well if you're going to have an eight hour session on the laptop, just pour one drink into a vase and you don't have to get up again.
  • Dan: I guess? Sure.
  • Phil: Just make sure it's got no flower bits in it.
  • Dan: But there are big drinks receptacles that are like cylinders...
  • Phil: There can be like three pints in that!
  • Dan: Wouldn't you like cut your lip on it because it's not what it's supposed to be?
  • Phil: No, just think outside of the box, Dan. That's what you need to do.

i want to write relationships that are complicated.

i want to write the on-again-off-again relationships. i want the screaming matches and the cancelled dates and the hurt feelings and the second guesses and second chances.

i want to write people who completely shake up each other’s daily routine and flip their entire world on its axis. i want them to drive each other crazy and question why they bother sticking around and then remember the way their partner laughs or see them in a moment of vulnerability that tells them ‘this is is why i stay. this is why i love you.'

i want to write relationships with struggles. with class differences and financial divide. two people who are so completely different they somehow complete each other. i want the jealousy and the feelings of inadequacy that goes with it.

i want to write people who aren’t afraid to be honest with their partner. who aren’t afraid to say 'yeah you’re being an asshole’ followed by 'but i still love you, you idiot.’

i want the first time they see their partner cry and the morning after their first intimate night when everything feels so right.

i want people who get so used to one another that they stop going the extra mile. i want the 'you don’t make the effort because you already have me’ argument.

i want relationships that challenge each other to be better people and make each other question their beliefs and moral compass.

but most of all, i want to write relationships that are real. that make you feel something. i want to go on the emotional rollercoaster right along with them.

that’s what i want.
