andreil soulmate au

An @aftgexchange pinch-hit for @andrewjsten; I hope you enjoy!

Imagine an AU where you can’t lie to your soulmate.

Everyone knows this.

Well, as in, it is physically possible; Neil can open his mouth and say something untrue to Andrew.

But soulmates are two people who share a soul. Two people who were meant to be one, but were torn asunder by the gods in their rage.

A soul will know the condition and the intention on its other half; for they are part of the same soul, in the end.

  • Which means that Andrew knows that Neil is his soulmate almost immediately
  • He flies out with Kevin to meet this rookie forward that Kevin’s raving about. He hasn’t bothered to watch the videos, he’s just going because they’re desperate for a new team member after the last recruit, and Kevin insists on going and Kevin won’t go alone
  • So he has the lowest of expectations when Neil comes rabbiting into the changing room and Andrew swings without thinking about it
  • His first thought is ‘what an idiot’ and his second is ‘hot tho’
  • And then Neil says something about not deserving to play on the same court as Kevin and Andrew can feel it in his bones, in his heart, in his soul that Neil is lying
  • Which makes his third thought about Neil ‘well fuck’

Bearly Noticable

Context: I’m the DM for a very homebrewed 5e campaign with bits and pieces from several games and shows. One of my players plays Bartholomew Grizzleton, or Bart, the eight foot tall clown makeup wearing sentient ex-circus bear with +5 charisma. This happened in our first ever session.

Me (DM): So as you walk through the camp you see a shop keeper selling all sorts of items and potions.

Bart(ooc): Ooh what kind of potions?

Me: you see health potions, stamina potions, some demondrug-

Bart(ooc): Can I steal them?

Me: Well… yes, but you’re a giant bear. I don’t think it will go that well though.

*Bart rolls for stealth*
Natural 20

*Whole table flips out*

Me: Ok then, you SOMEHOW sneak to the stand completely unnoticed, roll for sleight of hand.

*Bart rolls for sleight of hand*

FREAKIN

*Party is dying at this point*

Me: Okay SOME-FREAKIN-HOW a giant bear in clown makeup sneaks into the hand, grabs eight jars of demondrug and juggles back to the party!

Happy First Contact Day! Free wallpapers for all! If you like this design, surf on over to my redbubble store and check out the different ways you can wear/drink/stick this pice to share your love of Trek! UPDATE: Though I do still have a redbubble shop, CBS demanded they take down most of my Trek-themed art. Sadly, this was one of the pieces I had to take down.

So I was trying to imagine what the rest of the Apprentice’s shop/house looked like and then uh

(^Rough sketch of what I imagine the exterior is like.)

… yeah, I might’ve gone a bit overboard, so putting the rest under a cut because this is going to get a bit long.

The Daddies in the Morning

Requested by @teathpaste

Robert:

Not a morning person. At all. Or, well, let’s be honest here; he’s not an afternoon person. Robert awake in the morning means he’s been awake all night - otherwise, Robert’s been replaced by a changeling. No matter how much sleep this boy gets, he is always incredibly tired and grumpy in the morning, eyes itching, a minor headache from the dehydration of alcohol mixed with hiking through the woods…The only thing that gets him up and on a routine is Betsy, who is very insistent on getting fed on time.

Damien:

Damien has a very strict night and morning schedule - one that he has adhered to quite perfectly! Not because particularly needs one, but because he simply finds it the easiest way for him to get to bed and wake up in the morning. He isn’t particularly grumpy or cheerful in the morning he’s just…Awake. Like, really awake. Give him thirty minutes to dress and prepare for the day and it’s as if he was never asleep at all! Lucien calls this black magic.

Craig:

Craig, for all his hustle and bustle, is actually not a morning person. Never was, never will be. However, his daily routine keeps him in line. Coffee, River, light breakfast, run, quick shower, brunch, social…It’s a neverending mental list that the rest of the dads can hardly fathom. How does he keep it up?? Surely he’s got to have the same aching knees they all do by now…Despite their questions and teasing, he stands by the notion of just making sure you take care of yourself and staying motivated

Joseph:

You guessed it; Joseph’s the obnoxiously cheerful and energetic morning person. Christie usually runs into his room by about 6 and, Mary being the exact opposite, Joseph’s the one who leaps right of of bed to greet her! Then it’s pancakes for breakfast and getting everyone dressed and ready for school/service and oh boy he’s just so excited for the day and he loves his children and wife and life and everything’s just?? So great?? Oh my gosh. You can bet he crashes every night right at nine, though. Straight up dead. Mary, being more of a night owl, pushes him to stay awake a bit longer to help put the kids to bed and watch an episode of something together before he finally passes out. Her having slept in and wanting to be awake longer is why she is such good friends with Robert the fellow night owl.

Mat:

Mat is one of those ‘slow to wake up’ kind of people. He’s not grumpy or achy, he’s just tired and groggy. Coffee helps immensely, and his virtual dependence on it is what fostered the original idea for his coffee shop. Nothing helps wake him up like a fresh pot and getting to work at the place he loves most! Plus, though he’s an anxious introverted mess, something about getting to see the smiling faces of others in the morning gives him a good boost to make it through the first couple hours of tiredness.

Hugo:

Hugo is one of those don’t-even-talk-to-me-before-my-coffee kinds of people. He’s the dad that stumbles out of bed missing a slipper, hair sticking out in all directions, one eye’s still fused shut…It’s a mess. Ernest calls him Frankenstein when he first wanders into the kitchen - Hugo is too tired to correct him in that he would actually be Frankenstein’s Monster, not Frankenstein. Though, once he does have it’s coffee it’s like night and day - and for good reason!! He has eight long hours of teaching middle schoolers ahead of him. Joy.

Brian:

Brian is another morning person - however, unlike Joseph, he’s not obnoxious or energetic about it. He’s just awake and happy to be awake! His daughter is less so, but she always works through it as maturely as she does everything else. All Brian needs beyond a quick stretch is a cup of Joe and he’s out the door, ready to drop his amazing daughter off at school and get to work.

A Hundred Lesser Faces: (Seven)

Notes from Mod Bonnie

  • This story stems from the premise: what if Voyager!Claire had gone first to Lallybroch instead of directly to the print shop in Edinburgh?

Many a red-headed man I’d passed on the long road from Lallybroch. Every single time, my stupid, desperate heart had leapt with joy; and every time, I cursed myself for the fool that I was. For Christ’s SAKE, why the bloody hell should he be on the road from Inverness, Beauchamp? Jamie Fraser is south, in Edinburgh, with his wife. With his daughters. Happy. So, pull yourself together.

So deep had been my longing, though, that my traitorous eyes had tried over and over to convince me that it might be, it MIGHT be this time! (even when the actual travelers hadn’t looked remotely like Jamie). Jesus H. Roosevelt Christ, one had been a very tall boy no more than twelve, and I still had had to see his face from ten feet before I would allow my heart to quiet. Not him. Not him.

Blind hope, indeed.

But this time, as I whirled and fell on the hillside, heart exploding, in a single moment, I was certain. Even from a great distance, even two decades later, even not yet able to see his face through the snow-flecked gloom, even had he not been screaming my name, yes, I’d know the shape of that man anywhere. It was Jamie, tearing toward me on horseback, riding like the hounds of hell were at his heels. And the SIGHT of him? A relief and a love smashed through me, so deep and so visceral that I staggered downward; not running, not even making my way down the hill;  just slipping, pulled toward his orbit.

Alive. I had known for months, believed, had confirmation from Jenny herself, and yet the proof was now there before my eyes. Not under a stone on Culloden Moor; that nightmare was now banished forever. Jamie Fraser was ALIVE.

I saw him kick hard, spurring the horse to an even more astonishing pace—how loudly must he have been screaming that I had been able to hear him from so far away?—and found myself bursting out with joyous laughter at the way his shirt flapped like a sail in the wind. Nothing changed, then, if the ridiculous man had ridden without a coat or a cloak against the wind and the sn—

Wife.

No.

Daughters.

Please….please, no.

This changes absolutely nothing, Beauchamp. This ends with you going through those stones, sooner or later. Make it sooner.

But he came for me—Jamie came! He’s HERE.

He’s happy. He may have come, but he’s happy.  Don’t make him suffer by forcing this impossible choice.

Just let me say goodbye.

Please.

Let me hold him, just for —

Beauchamp:

Can you honestly do what needs to be done if you have to look him in the eye and pull yourself out of his arms?

“CLAIRE!—What are ye—? S T O P !”

I was running up the hill, stumbling and tripping, going as fast as I could. I couldn’t stop. If I looked at him—If I touched him…

Everything seemed to slow to single frames, impressions:

The slow shrill cry of my breaths,

the grass suddenly inches from my nose as I staggered low over a boulder.

Hoofbeats, closer, louder.

I’m running for my life through quicksand,

every footfall sinking me deeper, and slower, as the monster gets closer and closer and—

A fierce whinny, a curse.

A voice— my voice—screaming. “STAY AWAY!”

Boots hitting the ground,

“CLAIRE, STOP!

Running, both of us running,

and I couldn’t stop.

I must not st—

Time smashed into its normal pace again as I fell, mere yards from the crest of the hill, and cried out in pain.

“CLAIRE!” God, he was so close, pounding up the hill behind me, no more than thirty—

Don’t!” I shouted as I scrambled to my feet.

“CLAI—”

“DO—NOT—TOUCH—ME!”  I screamed it over my shoulder with all the violence I possessed, a feral beast, cornered and ready to go for the throat as it went down.

Silence fell on the faerie hill. Stillness, and absolute silence.

When human thought returned, I was on my feet at the very top of the hill, the stones screaming their evil song behind me. My body was slung sideways, both arms raised in defense; my head hung at an improbable angle so as to look nowhere, see nothing: not the stones, not him. It was elemental in my body, in that moment: the absolute imperative not to look at him. If I could keep from looking, keep from getting trapped in those eyes, everything would be alright.

It was a ridiculous logic, I knew; somewhere in the recesses of my consciousness, that was obvious. Jamie Fraser was HERE. He wouldn’t simply let me walk away unacknowledged; but such was the depth of my panic and hysteria that I couldn’t move. I was bare millimeters from completely falling apart, abandoning all my noble resolve, and flinging myself into his arms, begging him to choose me  take me and damn the fucking consequences.

But it still wouldn’t change a bloody thing, the rational half of my mind whimpered. He would still be married. He would still have his children. We still could not be together, or at least not under any circumstances that honor would permit. I still could not force him to make that choice.

Hold yourself together, Beauchamp. No tears, remember? You said you could do the same for him; could be calm and sure for him. Now, do it. Stand strong.

“….Mo nighean donn?”

That flower-stem snap.

That voice—Jamie’s sweet, clear voice; my very heart speaking aloud, quietly, but with every ounce of pain and longing that I felt in my own breast.

Look at me, mo nighean donn.”

Stand. strong.

My mouth was dry and my entire body was shaking, each word an effort. “— Can't—”

A sudden, vicious snarl. “LOOK at me!”

I half-growled, half screamed, “I—CANT!”

Desperate. So desperate, that ‘can’t’. I was shaking. Going into shock, in fact. Could feel the darkness and the manic energy and the absolute inability to retrieve words or actions closing—

Claire Elizabeth Beauchamp.”

He said it like he always said his own name: low and distinct, with honor in every syllable.

BE STRONG.

“I have ridden,” he said, in a voice so quiet and deep and measured, “night and day for nigh on a week, terrified that—terrified th—*Please,*” His calm vanished and the words were tumbling out of him in a frantic rush. “Please, for the love ye bear me, for the love that brought ye to find meTURN.”

STAND.

God, but I can’t stand.

“By everything that is holy…” A whispered moan. “Let me see your face, mo ghraidh.

….and damn my weak, foolish heart, I turned. I looked.

Day and night for a week, he’d said, and I believed it. Even at a distance of twenty feet down the hill, I could see just how bloodshot his eyes were, wide and wild. He was pale, underneath the red of wind and exertion, paler than I remembered. That glorious hair was now worn long. If it had been tied back, the ride and the wind had undone it. It was wild and tangled, whipping about his face, his chin covered in stubble that nearly amounted to a beard. His clothes—nothing but shirt, breeks and boots— were filthy and torn and splattered with mud. He looked, quite simply, dead on his feet.

He was the most beautiful sight I’d ever beheld.

God, you’re so like her, I wanted to moan. I’d known it, had had my heart broken every day to see the proof of him in our daughter, and yet seeing him now before me, I was absolutely run through to find her broad, good-humored face there, the same dark blue eyes aslant the high, flat cheekbones and wide mouth.

He’d aged, of course, as had I. The lines around eyes and mouth were deeper, the skin more weathered and coarse, but it was still him. His nose had been broken, at some point. It made him look fiercer, though perhaps that was simply fatigue and the vast waves of emotion obviously rushing through him, through us both.

Jamie had staggered back a pace or two back as he stared up at me, nearly toppling down the steep incline. “Jesus….Christ…” he whispered. The back of his hand was pressed to his mouth as though to stifle a cry, “You’re….You….” The hand became a fist and he shook his head as a gasping smile broke from him. “Claire—God, Claire, mo chridhe!” He moved, about to sprint up the hill.

I jumped backward. Raised my arms against him. No.

Hurt. Betrayal. Pain. It was as though I had shot him at point-blank range…And something deeper shone beneath it all: some blazing intensity I couldn’t quite identify. He looked as though he would bleed out there on the spot, from this newest wound.

So will I, my love.

But he heeded me, standing completely still. His hands shook, half-raised before him. He simply didn’t know what to do with them—I knew because I didn’t know what to do with mine. His mouth worked as he tried to speak, to ask, to say something, but failing. Those eyes held everything, though. Pleading.

Silence on the hill. Silence and screaming.

“You—survived,” I managed at last, weakly, with something like a laugh.

“Aye—” He exhaled in a huge rush, clearly grateful that I’d broken the stalemate. “It was a verra close thing.” He spoke fast and frantically, babbling, even, as though terrified to let silence fall again. “I should have died in the battle, or from the firing squads after, or of my wounds festering, but— Aye, I—I was—spared.”

“Thank God,” I whispered, and his eyes lit with such hope and relief that I could have cut my bloody tongue out at the root.

STOP this instant, Beauchamp. Nothing has changed.

Jamie was the one to break the silence, this time. “Your letter,” he gasped out.

“You read it, then?” A stupid thing to say. He’d obviously read it, but I clung to conversation just as he had. The stupid words were something, something to keep from falling off the edge of this insanity. “When?”

“By providence, I arrived at Lallybroch the same day you’d left, and….Oh, God, CLAIRE….”

Oh, God, Jamie.

Each time my name left him, it seemed to tear a piece out of both of us. I could only look down at him, waiting.

“When I saw your hand on that letter,” he said, voice shaking uncontrollably, “the print of your ring in the wax, I …”

He shook his head, at a loss, mouthing it over and over. I…I….

Through the snow, though darkness was creeping steadily around us, I could see the first tear sliding down his cheek. “….I felt as though I were dying.”

So did I. So do I.

“To know you’d survived—that you’d come back, and—and,” his eyes lit up. “Brianna.”

From his lips, our daughter’s name sounded like strange music from another world, and I wanted to listen to it forever.

“It would have been enough—more than enough—only to ken our bairn had lived, that the both of ye had lived and been cared for, but to….Claire, I simply couldna believe my eyes.” He shook his head, violently. “To see…to SEE the lass…our daughter.” Jamie released his sobbing breath and closed his eyes, holding out his hands before him, tears streamed down his cheeks. “Her entire life, there before me… and she so happy and so braw and bonny and—God, it tore out my beating heart.” He heaved a breath and smiled up at me, beaming with love and joy, though it was difficult for him to get out the words. “She’s—more wonderful than I ever could have imagined, mo ghraidh….Our Brianna.”

I forced a smile and choked down a sob. “I’m so honored,” I whispered, so haltingly, so carefully, so, so carefully, “to have been able—to bring her to you, in some way.”

My love.

My own love.

Nothing has changed.

I know.

I took a step, two steps, backward toward the stones. This was the part where I was to be strong.

Jamie’s eyes snapped into laser-focus, a predator’s, and that unknown intensity I’d seen earlier flamed now into life. It was anger

“Why would ye just GO?” His voice was still wretched with pain but he was snarling, stammering, growling in mounting fury. “Ye—ye came for me and—Ye came all the way from your time through the stones and then meant to go back and leave forever wi’out even—Damn ye, woman, ye didna even—If I hadna come just in time—Foolish—wretched, FOOLISH—” He hurled the demand toward me with his entire body. “WHY?”

“You *know* why.” It was all but a moan.

He growled again. “Ye dinna ken —”

“I know that you’re married,” I got out, moving sideways around the rim of the hill, countering his advance. “I know you have children. Jenny told me everything—how hap—”

“No, Claire, ye dinna understand!” Something had shifted in his eyes — relief? — and he was once again still, though scarcely fifteen feet in front of me down the hill. “Jenny lied. She lied, Claire,” he insisted, the words falling out of him. “She lied and made ye think I was—”

You’re not  ??”

Jenny lied! Thank the bloody stars above, the horrible bitch LIED!!! Jesus H—

My smile broke through like the dawn, a blaze of glorious, raging happiness as I gasped out, “Then, you’re not married?”

And I watched as that hope shriveled and vanished to dust. His eyes dropped to the ground. “I am marrit.”

I swayed, eyes closed. I couldn’t bear this any longer, couldn’t take this agony raging in my heart, both the emotional and the physical heart. I felt light-headed, felt pain in my limbs. I couldn’t be strong. I couldn’t.

Just a little while longer. Say your farewell, and be gone. It will be alright, Beauchamp.

“Then she didn’t lie,” I said, simply, my throat burning with the effort not to wail. “You have a wife and two beautiful daughters.” I caught my breath and opened my eyes, managing to smile, though I was so very near the brink. “I meant what I wrote in the letter. Every single word. I want you to be happy—and I’m glad that you are. I’m glad that you have a family and that they have made you happy.”

His brows were drawn up, making him look absolutely crazed. He mouthed the word like he’d never heard it before. Happy?

“But I—” Somehow, I kept up the smile as I whispered through wooden lips and burning throat and the tears. “—but it means—that I have—to go, now— before—”

“NO,” he snarled, springing with sudden force. I staggered still further away around the hill as he bellowed, “You’ll NOT—”

“BE STILL!” I bellowed back.

And once again, he heeded me.

“For God’s fucking SAKE, you bloody — Scot!” I shouted down at him, suddenly just as furious as he. “Have you NO notion of what — Don’t you understand? I’m giving you up! I’m letting you go!” I gestured wildly behind me to the stones, choking on my tears. “I’m leaving so you don’t have to choose! Do you think I’m so arrogant as to believe I’m worth upending your happy—”

“DAMN YOU, woman, I havena been HAPPY in TWENTY YEARS!”

Silence on the faerie hill. Silence and screaming.

When he spoke again, it was once more in that quiet, aching whisper.

“Jenny led ye to believe otherwise and may she be damned for it.” He took a step forward, pointing.  “But in that letter, ye renewed a promise to me; and I’ll give ye the same, now.” Another step.

I stepped back.

He surrendered, went to his knees, hands clenched in the posture of oath-taking. “No lies, Claire.” His eyes blazed into mine. “Nor secrets. Not ever. Not now. I swear it on Brianna’s life.”

God, my heart…

“Will ye hear what I have to tell?”

…it simply couldn’t take this.

But I nodded.

“I left Laoghaire more than a year past.”

LAOGHAIRE?!?”

The outburst was so violent, so loud and so shrill in the wake of my long silence, that it startled us both. Jamie had to put a hand out to steady himself as he jumped, and the acute panic of a fresh hell showed across his face.  “She—Jenny didna—?”

“No, she BLOODY well DIDN’T!”

“Aye, well—ah …ehm…Claire?”

He was peering leerily up at me, and little wonder, for I was laughing—actually, CACKLING with laughter, hands clutched to my belly as I doubled over with it.

“No, Jenny didn’t tell me who,” I sighed, when I had calmed down (marginally). “The only detail your darling sister deigned to divulge about your wife—”

Of all people. Of ALL the marriageable women in all the bleeding Highlands. He had married —had had children with—loved—

All levity, all scorn dropped out of me, and my voice cracked, a whispering shell. “—was that you were happier with her than she’d ever seen you….And that you had two little girls that call you Da.”

“But they’re not mine, Claire. They’re not mine,” Jamie said again more urgently as I stared. He gritted his teeth. “And I shall wring my sister’s neck for a wicked liar when next I see her, for she kens fine that I’ve not had ninety-nine happy minutes in that marriage since it began.”

I was so cold. Frozen, in every cell.

“Two years ago, we wed,” he began carefully. “She was marrit before, twice, and found herself a widow wi’ two bairns to feed just as I was newly come back from England.”

His words were running together, a bit. There was so much warring within him, so much he clearly wished to say, but cold and fatigue and emotion were taking their devastating toll.

“I’m fond of her lassies—Marsali and Joan. They’re aged fifteen and twelve and have had a cruel, rough way of it, in lives so short. Wi’ all that they’ve endured, I was glad—honored, even— for them to take me into their hearts as a father, but hear me, Claire.” He held my eye. “I’ve shared scarce more wi’ them than what loving gentleness I could offer, and a scant few months of meals shared ‘round the same table. No more.” He shook his head with a sound of shame and regret. “Christ, I sound an unfeeling wretch. I do care for them, I do.

But they weren’t born of his love; nor had he had a hand in raising them.

“Their mother…She…”

She.

“I did have hope, at the beginning; hope that perhaps there could be some — tenderness between us. Nothing like—” He make a vain gesture up at me and closed his eyes, as though he couldn’t bear it. “—like what I kent it could be between a husband and wife, but something good to keep me sane; keep me alive….Can ye see?…Have ye kent that same hope, Claire?…. Only she couldna; or I couldna. I’ll accept the blame in full, but in the end, the ‘why’ and ‘who’ dinna matter. It was a broken thing within months, and I knew that if I’d stayed….”

He hung his head, and for the first time, I could truly see the twenty years that had gone from his life.

“I left for Edinburgh; have been there ever since. I provide for them, but I havena called Balriggan home for over a year…nor shared her bed since long before that.”

The wind whistled between us. What he was saying…

I was numb. I was…It was like I was underwater, with news being shouted to me from dry land as I slowly drowned.

“I’ve lain wi’ three women, since you’ve been gone,” he blurted suddenly, urgently against my silence, his voice so miserable, his eyes imploring. “Laoghaire, and two single-night encounters, and from one of those—From one of those nights…”

Oh, Jesus…

“William,” he whispered, nodding in confirmation, his eyes absolutely wretched but shining with the need to confess. “He’s a — a bastard, in England, and I shall never see him again. I’ve never told anyone of him, not even Jenny or Ian. His mother, his putative father—they’re both dead. He’s highborn, in the care of a man I trust. John will give him a good life; better than ever a convicted traitor could.”

He closed his eyes and I could see his mouth working furiously as he tried both to form words and to hold back his weeping. “But he’s my son,” he whispered. “My only son, alive in the world because of me, and he’s bonny and canty and strong, just like Brianna, and there are days when I canna seem to live wi’out seeing him, holding him, or —” And he went silent, hiding his face in his hands until he could manage to speak. “Nor can I regret that he lives, for those years I had near Willie were the closest thing I’ve had to—to — And that only a shell of what….”

He raised a hand up as though he would cup my cheek across the chasm between us; then dropped it. Both hands lay on his thighs, aimless.

“No. Happiness has not been granted me, Claire.” He stared at his palms, speaking in the barest, broken murmur. “My heart left wi’ you and the bairn; and while it is my duty to go on, to care for those under my protection, as I shall do, I’ve had little joy save the knowledge that at the end, I’d die and be able to find ye, just as I promised. Two hundred years, I said I’d wait. I’ve been counting.”

The snowflakes danced around us in the near-night, oblivious to desperation or to miraculous sparks catching in dark, deep places.

“And to then learn in a moment that you’d come back…”

I tried to speak; but I was shaking so hard that I couldn’t open my mouth. I clenched it tight, feeling the tears slipping over my lips.

“Claire?” he moaned, reaching out a hand. “…Lass?…Love?…I feel as if I shall die if I canna touch ye….Please.”

My knees had locked — everything within me had locked, between Jamie and the cold— and as I tried to adjust my footing, I accidentally stumbled backward a pace.

Despair escaped out of him and he jumped up as though to run to me, but he thought better of it, and came back down to his knees.

“Twice, I brought ye here to send ye away, mo nighean donn, because I knew a better life awaited ye on the other side of those accursed stones. Perhaps it does, this day, as well, but this time, I shall beg. Don’t go.”

He raised both clawed hands to me. The tears were flowing so violently and his face was so deeply contorted so as to be barely recognizable.

“Don’t go. Stay wi’ me. Stay. I canna…I canna do it…Please.*please*….”

I was paralyzed, completely immobilized by — by —

“Is it too much to forgive, Claire?” came the cracked moan of my heart through the darkness that had suddenly hidden him from me entirely. “Laoghaire and—and William? Do… do ye not want me?”

God, Jamie…” I whispered, so softly that surely only the grass and the snow could hear.

It was the first time I had said his name aloud to him.

“….you’re all I want.”

“Then  what   else   matters?”

“….Nothing.”

Nothing else mattered.

And I was flying down to him, and he was flying off his knees to catch me, and the feeling of his arms around me, of Jamie’s arms around me at last was —

Like lightning, striking upon the sand. A flash of light, of power, instantly transforming the hundreds of tiny fragments— the millions of shards weathered to all but nothing by time—into a single, molten one. A whole.

Part Two

There was a place near the western end of the village where you could see the sunset perfectly. A place where the houses and shops petered off and there was nothing but a deep, green valley with purple, snow capped mountains in the distance. From there, I could watch as the sky turned a miraculous shade of dusty pink and the sun sank lower and lower beneath the horizon. Stars would then slowly emerge to replace its light. I never got tired of watching. Some people would scoff and say, ‘once you’ve seen one sunset, you’ve seen them all’. But that wasn’t true at all. Each one was different. Maybe only subtly so, but still. The colors were never quite the same. Which maybe explained why I was having such a hard time capturing it in paint or chalk.

Together, we stand taller

written by: Josefine / @selflessbellamy

prompt: ‘Bellarke + height difference ’ for @thejonderettegirl

word count: 1359

In the end, she chooses him after no more than a day of consideration, and he moves in the next week, bringing his stuff from the dorm in cardboard boxes. Unable to resist curiosity, Clarke looks at the labels on them, and she quickly realizes that he’s only brought six, and three of them are labeled ‘books’, two are labeled ‘clothes’ and the last one is ‘miscellaneous’.

When Clarke wrote her detailed Facebook post in search of a roommate, her requirements were simple:

  1. Clean up your own shit
  2. No loud sex on Monday nights
  3. No misogynists are allowed within a fifty feet radius of my residence
  4. (If you’re taller than 5’4’’, that would be awesome. I hate that I have to stand on the counter to reach my plates, since giraffes apparently designed this place)

Of course, she had received a bunch of offers within three weeks, but none of them seemed to stand out like the one from Bellamy Blake, a history major who — like her — wished to escape the noisy and rude roommate he had ended up with at NYU.

Dear Clarke Griffin,

My name’s Bellamy Blake. I’m twenty-three, 5’9’’ and a history major at NYU (which basically means I’m a certified nerd, yes. But please don’t ask me to do math). I’m currently in desperate need of a place to stay outside of campus, because my roommate likes to sexile me every other night and leave his dirty laundry on my side of the dorm. He also snores, a LOT.

It would make me very happy if you’d take me into consideration. And if you do choose me, I’ll look forward to getting to know you over a glass of wine. I’ll even bring my latest creation: a game of darts that has Trump’s face plastered on it.

        -    Bellamy Blake.

Hi! How are you? I saw the pictures of your previous trip to Japan. They are awesome. I plan to visit Kyoto this April and I would like to ask which Shinsengumi related places are worth the visit? Are there any places where I can buy Hakuouki related things? Last year I watched the whole Hakuouki anime series (all of the seasons, movies, specials) and I became a fan and I would like to visit the places which were mentioned in the anime. As you were there in April was it crowded? Best wishes, Éva

Thank you! I didn’t post nearly enough of them, honestly, I have so much more to talk about because the whole experience was just… completely surreal, but what is time?

There are books dedicated to touring Japan to visit significant sites relating to the Shinsengumi, including two Hakuouki ones (one of which JUST came out). Of course, the biggest issue is that this information is all in Japanese and that’s something you’re going to come up against if you want to visit these places. You definitely don’t have to understand Japanese (I’ve heard of people managing) but it honestly helps.

My personal trip started in Tokyo, then we went down to Kyoto, back up North to Aizu-Wakamatsu and then onto Hakodate. We really just focused on many of the big spots but there’s just so much to cover, two weeks was never going to be enough, especially as it was my friend’s first time in Japan too so we had other things to do.

As to the crowds, being hanami (cherry blossom viewing) season Tokyo and Kyoto were crowded, but I feel like that’s always a thing since it’s Japan, but the more you go off the beaten path, and the Shinsengumi sites kind of are off the beaten path, it’s not so bad. Aizu and Hakodate are definitely not as crowded, especially with foreign tourists. My friend and I were definitely standouts.

As far as being able to buy Hakuouki related goods, if it’s related to the Shinsengumi your chances of finding Hakuouki things to buy is high but it really depends on the location. I had the best luck in Kyoto, Aizu, and Hakodate since… they’re kind of big Shinsengumi hot spots, but we didn’t spend a lot of time in Tokyo for me to really go looking for stuff there. (I will say there is a disappointing lack of stuff in the Animates I went to.) I’ll be going back in April and focusing more on the sites in Tokyo so I’ll have to report back on that.

Here’s some of the major highlights of my trip that might be most worth noting:

**Warning: Long post is long! Click the location names for relevant links!**

Tokyo

Hijikata Toshizou Museum

The Hijikata family residence where Hijikata’s family resided during his lifetime has evolved to include a museum. Since the site is still a private residence, the added on museum is only open during certain days of the year. Typically two Sundays each month. Hino is considered part of greater Tokyo, but it’s quite a hike from the city itself. This is one of those places you have to be prepared to go to and spend a good chunk of your day at. The museum is small and you won’t be there long but it’s a wonderful place to go. The family runs it and is very pleasant to visit with. This is also where you would go to see Hijikata’s beloved sword, Izuminokami Kanesada.

Sekiden-ji

Being that Hino is Hijikata’s hometown, there’s more than just the museum to visit. Just a few minutes journey from the museum is the Sekiden-ji or Sekiden Temple which is one of at least four places, I believe, with a grave for Hijikata. It’s a temple with a cemetery, containing many members of the Hijikata family, so it’s important to be respectful but it’s easy to find the stone marker and the grave itself is nearby.

Hino also has a big Shinsengumi festival every year in May. One of these days I’m going to go to it.

It’s good to wander around the city a bit. There’s so many houses with the Hijikata name plate and it’s clear this town is proud of it’s famous historical figure. I’m looking forward to going back and exploring it more on my own to see what I missed last time.

Itabashi - Kondou Isami’s Grave Marker

Itabashi is where Kondou was executed and after the war was over, Nagakura Shinpachi built the grave to memorialize the commander in 1876. Hijikata’s name is also inscribed on the stone pillar. Nearby is also a grave for Shinpachi as well. It’s a straight shot from Itabashi station so it’s not too difficult to find. The grave honestly is a memorial to the entirety of the Shinsengumi, but being that this is where Kondou was executed, it has special significance for that reason.

Other places to visit in Tokyo, that I intend to visit when I go back this year, include:

Shieikan dojo - There’s nothing much remaining here beyond a stone marker, but this is the origin of the Shinsengumi and worth visiting.
Ryuugen-ji - Kondou’s body was brought here (sans his head) after his execution and buried.
Imado Shrine - This site is primarily famous for being the birthplace of the manekineko or ‘lucky cats’ but it’s also significant for being the site of the hospital where Okita Souji was supposed to be recovering from tuberculosis. It’s not his grave or where he actually died though.
Sensou-ji - But his grave is close at the famous Sensou-ji, however, it is only open one day a year.
Chofu/Mitaka City - Birthplace of Kondou Isami and many members of the Shinsengumi.
Kashio Bridge - Former site of the Battle of Koushuu-Katsunuma, the battle the followed the Battle of Toba-Fushimi and Kondou Isami’s last battle before his execution.

Kyoto

Mibudera / Yagi House

One of the sites of the Shinsengumi’s headquarters, these two places are a must see. The nice thing is that once you find one, the other is right down the same road, practically around the corner. You’ll see big “makoto” banners that signify they’re Shinsengumi sites. The Yagi House does do tours but they will not be in English (hopefully you get the nice man with the strong Kansai accent–he’s super nice). After the tour you get to go to the little shop that’s out in front for some tea and a treat as part of paying for a ticket for the tour. There’s a little garden in Mibudera that you pay 100 yen to get into but that’s where all the statues and memorials are that are the highlight. Including this really neat prayer board:

Nishi Honganji

The second headquarters of the Shinsengumi. It’s HUGE and it’s beautiful. Definitely worth a visit. Seriously, my pictures do not do the size of this place justice. It was immense. No wonder the squad wanted to relocate here.

Ikeda Inn/Hana no Mai Restaurant

Now the site of the Hana no Mai Ikeda Inn branch but there’s a stone marker outside that states that this is the site where the Ikeda Inn used to stand. You need to make reservations but worth it for a good meal and where I drank my way through the Hakuouki Shinsengumi XD

Nijo Castle

Nijo Castle is a good place to visit just because it’s Kyoto and it’s where the Shogun lived when he was being protected by the Shinsengumi. As I recall it’s the site in the Hakuouki game where Kazama and the other demons reveal themselves to Chizuru while the Shinsengumi are guarding the Shogun.

Sanjo Bridge

We weren’t able to make it here, being on a time crunch, but it is near the castle. A site that is also famous to the Shinsengumi and all of Kyoto in general. This is the bridge where the notice was that Sano protected in Hakuouki. It’s also said that there’s a sword wound on one of the pillars on the east side from the Ikeda Inn Incident.

Shimabara

Our ryokan was here so we got kind of an intimate experience of the area but it’s a nice little area to explore if you have the chance. The infamous red light district, this is where many men, the Shinsengumi included, would go to relax and drink off-duty. The entrance gate is kind of the major tourist attraction but this is where you can find the Sumiya.

Sumiya

This is the ageya famous for being visited frequently by Serizawa Kamo and the location where Hijikata and Kondou got Serizawa drunk before later assassinating him at the Yagi House. It’s also the oldest remaining example of an ageya still in existence. There’s sword marks inside made by Serizawa on the first and second floor. You need to make a reservation to see the second floor but it’s so worth it. We weren’t allowed to take pictures inside (which is pretty typical) but there’s one room that is just covered all over with inlaid mother of pearl and it’s just insane. And they still don’t know how they did it!

You are allowed to take pictures on the first floor and this is supposedly one of the sword marks from Serizawa:

Our ryokan was literally two houses down from this site and when I realized where we were I might have had an emotional freak out… >_>

There’s soooo many places in Kyoto though, one day I hope to go back and find the others that I know we missed. Fun side-story, one of the things one of my friends wanted to do what do some Shinsengumi cosplay, so he found us a shop that did it and on our last day in Kyoto we dressed up and got to visit the Mibudera in our outfits, it was pretty embarrassing but I’m glad we did it XD

Here, have a picture:

Ironically, it was the one day in our stay that it was RAINING LIKE CRAZY -_-

Aizu-Wakamatsu

Tsuruga-jou (Tsuruga Castle) aka Aizu-Wakamatsu Castle

When Saitou talks about defending Aizu, this is the castle at the center of it all. Tsuruga Castle was the home of Lord Matsudaira Katamori, who is the man responsible for sponsoring the Shinsengumi in the first place. He is the man that they feel indebted to and is basically the man they answered to, ultimately, and this is where he and his family resided. And for me, this is where my fascination with this period in history started, so naturally I had to go back. The original castle had been so riddled artillery fire during the Battle of Aizu, that it was demolished by the new government in 1874. The tenshu, the largest tower of the castle, was reconstructed in 1965 and currently houses a museum on the inside. It really is a must-see for anyone interested in the Bakumatsu and the Shinsengumi.

Iimori-yama (Iimori Hill) / Byakko-tai Memorial

The Byakko-tai was a squadron of young teenage boys from the Aizu domain that fought to defend Tsuruga Castle and the city of Aizu during the Battle of Aizu. They were fighting along with the remnants of the Shinsengumi that stayed behind (such as Saitou), perhaps not directly though under the same banner of Aizu, but tragically, when the boys saw Tsuruga Castle burning they assumed the castle had fallen and each committed ritual suicide on the hill. While the castle would eventually fall, the tragedy is the boys’ death was premature. At the top of a long path of stairs climbing up the side of the hill (mountain? Feels like a mountain lol) is the memorial dedicated to them. This was the site where I really felt my first interest in the Bakumatsu and the Boshin War blossoming, so while not exactly a Shinsengumi site per se, it’s still related history and worth visiting.

Hakodate

Goryoukaku

The famous site of the last battle of the Boshin War. Goryoukaku fort is where Hijikata retreats with what remains of the pro-Shogunate forces when they flee to Hokkaido, at the time called Ezo. Now the site is a park that is infamous for it’s gorgeous cherry blossoms. I was sad that unfortunately we were there a little too soon for the cherry blossoms but practically all the trees on the site are cherry blossom trees so when they are in full bloom it is quite a site I’m told.

The Magistrate’s Office (lower picture) was only recently rebuilt as a museum over the site of the original office and is the location of Hijikata and Chizuru’s infamous kiss in Hakuouki ;) Though in reality it is the last stand of Hijikata and his beleaguered men. Walking through it is rather incredible as much detail was put into the restoration and one of the rare sites that lets you take pictures throughout the interior. They had DVDs for sale that went through the details and the lengths that they went through to reconstruct the Magistrate’s Office and it is beyond fascinating, I purchased a copy and hope to be able to share it some day.

Goryoukaku Tower

Not necessarily a Shinsengumi site historically speaking but if you want a nice aerial view of Goryoukaku Fort this is where you want to go. Also, personally, there’s two wonderful Hijikata statues here that are worth seeing, and a whole blow-by-blow of the Battle of Hakodate that’s really neat and that I have pictures of that I hope to share at some point.

Shomyo-ji (Shomyo Temple) / Memorial Monument for Hijikata Toshizou and the Shinsengumi

Here’s a description taken from the sign on site:

“After joining Enomoto’s army, Toshizo Hijikata (deputy leader of Shinsengumi) was killed in the battle of Hakodate. Opinions are divided regarding the exact location of his burial; Ippongi in Wakamatsu-cho, Tsuruoka-cho, or Eikokubashi in Jujigai. A record taken from the Kongoji Temple in Hino, Hijikata’s hometown in present-day suburban Tokyo, only noted that Hijikata’s memorial monument was erected in Shomyoji Temple in Hakodate. The monument did not survive three fires during the Meiji era, and the present monument was erected in 1973 by volunteers.

Four others names of Shinsengumi members’, whose tombstones in Shomyoji Temple were destroyed during a typhoon in 1953, were also engraved on the monument.”

Monument Marking the Site of Hijikata’s Death

Located in front of a rather normal office building, this was the end of our pilgrimage, which I’m not a religious person necessarily but the weight of standing here and having come so far, I cried. Finding this was a little difficult but we had managed to get lucky and when I explained to our taxi driver why we were there and what we were doing and he literally drove us to our last two destinations pointing out highlights and patiently waiting for us at each site. It’s really cheesy, I know, but coming here was the pinnacle of a long journey and I really hope I can go back again one day to pay my respects again.

This person’s blog has some great suggestions of things to see in Kyoto relating to the Shinsengumi:

http://matome.naver.jp/odai/2140320228711779601?&page=1

Of course, as I said earlier, the only downside is that none of it is in English, which is going to be the struggle for anyone really wanting an immersive Shinsengumi or Bakumatsu experience. While you can get around not knowing the language I feel like, honestly, there would be a lot lacking. Especially if you try to venture further North to Aizu or Hakodate, Aizu in particular would be tough for non-Japanese speakers.

There were so many places to see and since I was not on my own there was just not enough time to hit them all, but these were the major stopping points on our tour along the path of the Shinsengumi.

I’d Do Whatever It Takes

IT’S DONE YOU GUYS!!!! I’m so excited. Here you have 5900 (!!!!) words of Daveed/reader. There’s fluff, angst, smut… anything and everything.

Italics are in the past or a text.

(Y/BF/N) - your best friend’s name.

Diggs, bro!”

Daveed looked up when he heard Rafa call his name, putting his phone aside so he could listen to what the other man had to say. He was expecting a comment about a show or something that he was working on. Something typical. Not at all what Rafa said next.

I know this girl that I think you’d like.”

Daveed immediately shook his head as memories of the last time Rafa tried to play matchmaker came to mind. “No. Absolutely not. The last time you tried to hook me up with someone, she was…let’s just say it was a disaster,” he said.

Come on. This one’s a lot like you. I really think you’d get along.”

Daveed sighed. He knew Rafa well enough to know that once he had his mind set on something, it was damn near impossible to get him off of it. He might as well just go along with it. “Fine,” he said with a rather pessimistic tone. “But if this goes badly, you owe me.”

It’ll be fine.”

Ironically, I think it’s been 6 months since I started writing this xD)
Also, Jungkook is actually not a CEO in the story, he’s just the son of one and next in line to be the CEO.

“I don’t think so,” Jungkook laughed in disbelief, “what kind of rule is that?”

“You don’t have a choice, Jungkook.” his father’s voice rang through the corridor, shaking his head in annoyance.

Jimin and Hoseok stood behind Jungkook and looked at each other for a few seconds before Hoseok spoke up, “Sir, isn’t that deadline a little unrealistic?”

“Six months?” his father’s eyebrows raised, “I think that’s more than enough time. With his looks he could pick up any woman on the streets and she’d fall for him.”

“But any woman won’t be good enough,” Jungkook shook his head and took a deep breath, “You can’t put a time limit on finding the perfect woman.”

“You don’t need the perfect woman, you just need a wife,” his father shot, getting tired of the conversation, “Why do you think I married your mother?”

Jungkook’s patience was wearing thin and his glare was intensifying by the second, “I don’t want a marriage like yours. You two don’t love each other. She only married you for the money.”

“You have six months, Jungkook,” his father repeated, ending the conversation with no further discussion

***

“Can you believe that guy?” Jungkook mumbled as he threw his empty coke bottle in a trash can that they were passing by, “He expects me to find someone worth being with me in such a little amount of time?”

“Well…” Seokjin bit his lip for a second, “There are seven of us, so if we all go wife hunting, I’m sure we could find someone.”

Jungkook groaned, but most of the guys were agreeing with Seokjin, “I would rather just hire someone to marry me and then just divorce them when I find the right girl.”

Taehyung scrunched up his nose, “That sounds like a terrible plan. What if she denies getting divorced unless she’s paid a million or something? Or worse, your father won’t let you divorce her because it would hurt the company’s image.”

“But I don’t want to get married right now!” Jungkook was starting to get frustrated with his friends. He doesn’t want to be set up… and he certainly doesn’t really want to find a girl that just wants money. He couldn’t live with a woman that was like his mom. All she cares about is money.

“You could always go for an old friend or even one of our sisters or cousins if you had to.” Jimin suggested, but Yoongi’s eyebrows raised.

“My sister is off limits, though. I don’t want her to be the wife of a CEO.” he shook his head, taking a drink of his coke. The guys paused their conversation to walk inside the local coffee shop. It wasn’t a common hang out place, but it was the most private one that they knew of.

“I know that my cousin would marry you,” Namjoon offered, “She’s kinda liked you for a while. Don’t tell her I told you, though.”

Jungkook shook his head, “I’d rather not marry into anyone’s family. It would make things more complicated than it should be.”

Taehyung plopped down into a booth first as the others followed, “Well you’re low on time. You might be marrying into one of our families or just marrying a complete stranger.”

“Well,” Hoseok spoke up, “There’s always the internet.”

“No,” Jungkook shot that idea down, “I refuse to take to a sad dating website for a mate. I would rather marry Yoongi’s sister and have him kill me for doing so.”

Yoongi gave Jungkook a murderous look, “I’m glad you know your limits.”

Pairings: Bucky x Reader

Catch Up Here

Summary: Bucky and Y/N have been fairly successful at keeping their relationship hidden from the rest of the Avengers. That is… until Nat walks into the kitchen one night and finds Bucky kissing Y/N. While Y/N is relieved that their relationship is out in the open it soon becomes more complicated than she could have ever imagined.

Author’s Notes: Thanks to the lovely @melconnor2007 for the request. Also – happy early 18th birthday to my cousin Nicole ( @totallygroovyllama ). Thanks for being the sister I never got to have.

Sorry it’s out late – long hours at work plus a bummed out hand make things so much more difficult.

I opened my eyes tentatively – testing the severity of my hangover. The early morning light drifted lazily from the blinds – throwing golden bars on the bed. I groaned as my headache raged. As I looked lazily around the room I saw a glass of water and a bottle of ibuprofen on the nightstand by the bed. I gratefully grabbed the bottle and glass – throwing back two pills and washing them down hastily. I laid my head back on my pillow with a sigh as I closed my eyes – praying that the pounding in my head would subside soon. The door to the bedroom squeaked as it was opened and I casually opened one eye – just enough to see who caused the noise.

“Hey sis,” I muttered before turning from the bed and vomiting into the waste bin she had strategically placed beside it.

“Oh come on Y/N – you have to talk about it. I haven’t heard from you hardly at all in the last year… now all of a sudden you’re calling me up to meet you… no explanation. I get here and you’re drunk out of your mind and falling to pieces,” Nicole chastised as we walked down the street to get lunch. I winced as her voice grew shriller the longer she talked.

“Okay – okay…. First can we get some food? And could you possibly keep your voice down a few octaves?” I asked annoyed. She rolled her eyes and huffed to herself as we entered the warm little dinner that we always visited when we stayed at the cottage. We picked out the booth furthest away from any windows and sat comfortably in the worn leather cushions.

Nicole eyed me eagerly as the waitress brought us our menus and coffee. She was several years older than me. Where I had been a cautionary tale on what not to do through grade school she was the star pupil. I had dropped out of college after two semesters finding it to not be stimulating enough for me while she had gone on to medical school. She had a family; I had a string of unsuccessful relationships. This thought snapped me back to the present as I casually grabbed a menu and looked it up and down.

“Okay… stop bullshitting Y/N. You know that menu front to back… you’re just stalling,” she snapped as she crossed her arms in annoyance.

“Fine,” I responded as I placed the menu back on the table and motioned to the waitress that we were ready. We placed our orders and then I reluctantly turned to my sister. “First, I’m sorry I’ve been such a shit – I didn’t eat anything yesterday and the drinking, and crying that I partook in caused the hangover from hell.”

“Apology accepted,” she replied as she smiled at me. It never took us long to make up with one another. “So?” she asked raising an eyebrow.

“I started seeing someone in the Avengers… His name is Bucky Barnes.” I was interrupted by her choking on her coffee.

“Isn’t he the one that…” I cut her off before she could say another word.

“He doesn’t do that anymore,” I replied curtly. I had always been particularly defensive of Bucky since I knew him – even before we had started our romance.

“Noted,” she added apologetically as she held her hands up to me.

“Anyways… We’ve been… well I don’t know what you would call it. I guess we’ve been dating for the last five months, but we didn’t tell anyone else on the team… We wanted to make sure things actually worked between us before complicating everything,” I explained as she nodded understandingly. “The day before yesterday Nat walked in on him kissing me so we were forced to kind of let everyone know about it. I was relieved… and well we kind of… I kind of slept with him. Anyways, yesterday morning he left for a mission so I went to the gym with Nat. She proceeded to tell me that Bucky and her had an arrangement similar to ours and he only ended it five months ago… around the same time he started pursuing me… and it was just awful. I had to get away from all of it,” I paused allowing her to analyze everything I had just told her.

“Was this Nat your friend?”

“Yes… well I thought so… She said some pretty terrible things to me and I kind of… well I punched her and I am pretty sure I broke her nose,” I added awkwardly.

She raised her eyebrows in surprise, “So I’m assuming this Bucky fellow is something more than a casual thing?” This was new territory for me. I had only seriously dated one other person before and it had ended horribly. After that it was my real of thumb to not get attached. Bucky was different though – in all honestly that’s what I had refused to have sex with him at first. I needed it to be different with him.

I smiled sadly. “Honestly? I think I’m in love with him,” I muttered sadly as the waitress brought us our food. We lapsed into silence as we ate – not bringing up Bucky or the previous days.

“You know… I was thinking,” Nicole muttered as we walked amongst the different shops in town.

“About what?” I asked.

“I haven’t heard you say ‘love’ since… you know,” she paused awkwardly.

“I do know,” I responded curtly. I knew all too well. The only other time I thought I had been in love had ended up being an abusive and toxic relationship. That’s why Bucky’s lack of honesty felt like a betrayal to me. I had been down this road before, and I wasn’t willing to walk it again.

“This Bucky though… do you think that he would have told you about his relationship with Nat eventually?” She asked casually.

“Yes… I mean… I don’t really know, but I would like to think he would. It would have been better if maybe he had told me before we had slept together,” I answered bitterly.

“That’s true… I just… I don’t know. I feel like he knew he would have to tell you at some point – maybe he didn’t want to ruin what he had with you?” she asked tentatively. I shot her a glance as I thought it over. “Hey! I’m just saying maybe there is more to the story!” she added defensively as she raised her hands up at me. “Have you at least talked to him?”

“No,” I responded curtly.

“So basically you cut and ran as soon as you found out?”

I spun on my heel at this so I could turn to look at her face to face. “I don’t want to be manipulated anymore. I needed time and distance to think before I hear him out,” I responded snappily.

“Okay Okay. Remember you called me to try to help you through this, and that’s what I’m doing.”

I sighed as I rubbed my throbbing temples with my fingers. “I know… I’m sorry. I just… I don’t know. Can we go back to the cottage?” I asked wearily. The intensity of my headache had gone through the rough and all I wanted was to lay down and rest for a bit longer now that I had eaten.

“Whatever you want kiddo,” she smiled as we hooked arms and walked back to the cottage side-by-side.

I wanted Bucky there more than anything, but my own fear left me paralyzed. He would have to make the first move if he did really care, because regardless of his intentions for not telling me – this mess was his making.

I hate when customers “need” something, like really NEED something, but wait until the day before or the day of to go to the store and buy it.

Every. Single. Year. we sell out of football tights. We get them in September and they sit around until the first cold snap, and then BAM, they’re all gone. And you’d think I personally purchased them all just so parents who have a soccer game in an hour couldn’t have them. One guy even told my co-worker that if his kid got sick from the cold, he’d bring him back to the store.

The thing is, stores sell items on a first come, first serve basis, and even though technology has progressed significantly in the past couple decades, we still can’t materialize stock from nowhere because you came in and “needed” it.

So, if you “need” something, like really NEED something, start shopping for it a week in advance. Then we can order it or you can stop by another store. Or skip all this nonsense, and the second you “need” anything, find it on Amazon and choose one day shipping. Just plan your life a couple more days ahead!

Smash or Pass -Calfreezy

Anonymous said to simplysdmn:Could you do a Calfreezy imagine where you’re a youtuber and secretly dating so when he does the smash or pass video your name comes up and he gets mad/protective??

A/N: Hey! I hope you like this! I had fun writing this! I changed it up a little bit but I hope you like it anyways!

Cal’s POV

“Ok but Sarah only has like 600 thousand subscribers, this is so unfair JJ.” Lux said, putting his face in his hands.

“I don’t care what he says; it’s a smash from me.” I said, laughing along with JJ.

“Well, alright then, next one!” We played alone for a couple more minutes, Lux’s response being Sarah wouldn’t approve and so forth.

“Cal you really need to at least have one smash bro, you’re ruining the game!” Jide exclaimed.

“Ok fine!” He sighed while I laughed.

“Ok so Y/N Y/L/N, smash or pass?” My mouth dropped open and I had to cover it up by pretending to yawn. I looked over at JJ who was already saying stuff like “the things I would do to her” making me clench my jaw and ball my fingers into a fist.

No one knew that Y/N was my girlfriend and I really had no idea that she was going to come up within these girls. I couldn’t really get mad at JJ because he had already put Sarah in the girls and he didn’t know that we were dating. I looked over at Cal who was already saying something about subscribers and Sarah and Jide who was rolling his eyes.

“Oh my God, Cal are you listening to him?” He laughed. I cleared my throat, getting out of my thoughts.

“Eh, yeah.”

“So Callum, smash or pass?”

“Smash.” I could feel my face heating up , which Cal had noticed. It was a habit of mine when I talked about someone close to me.

“Wait! Callum do you know something about her?” Lux questioned sitting up.

“No, what makes you think that?”

“Nothing in particular.” He looked over at JJ and laughed.

“Honestly, I’d fuck her so hard.” JJ said. I looked over at him giving him a death stare. “What? I’m being honest! You can’t tell me she’s not hot and you wouldn’t want to? I mean look at her? And I know she watched these videos so Y/N, it’s a very big smash from me!” JJ exclaimed.

“I agree with JJ, if I wasn’t with Sarah of course.” I looked over at Lux, giving him death stare.

“Look at her Cal! Did you see the pictures she posted when she went to the beach? She look bare good you know.”

“Yeah, I saw.” I gritted my teeth. “I’d rather you not talk about her like that. I actually know her personally and I wouldn’t want ruin our relationship.”

“Define relationship?” Lux leaned slightly over JJ to get a closer look at me.

“Why does it matter?”

“Because, you’re acting like she’s your girlfriend.” JJ laughed.

“Well, maybe she is.” I muttered hoping none of them heard.

“Wait, Lux did you hear that? I heard that. ‘Maybe she is’? Maybe she’s your girlfriend?” JJ hit Lux’s shoulder out of sudden outburst.

“I’ll tell you if promise to edit this out.” He nodded frantically.

Y/N and I met at a Youtubers event last summer. At first she really didn’t like me, she thought I was obnoxious and stuck up but after a while these opinions vanished and she grew to like me. To my surprise she wanted to take this friendship further and I agreed. I was whipped and I fell in love with her. Once I explained it to them, they were dumbfounded.

“Well, well, well, who ever thought Mr Callum Airey would ever fall in love?“ Lux smiled at me.

“For real though, congrats man. I heard she’s a really nice girl so don’t treat her bad and it’s finally time you’ve settled down!” JJ laughed. We then went on to continue the video.

Y/N’s POV

I sat down at my desk and logged into my computer. The first thing I did was check my business emails; answering a few and forwarding some to my manager. I then proceeded to check my personal email where most of it was just promo for shops and businesses but I also had one sent from JJ.

JJ and I had been friends for a long time, I’d met him at a gaming event a couple of years ago and ever since then we’ve been good friends. Knowing how JJ is he did have his sexual remarks and jokes but I always laughed and dismissed them because he was like a brother to me.

So when I saw this email, I really didn’t know what expect. I clicked it open and saw it was a little snippet of the Smash or Pass video he’d done with the two Cal’s. Callum had already told me that he had told them that we were dating because I had come up in the video. I watched the whole video out of curiosity and mostly because I was bored but it was quite funny to see Cal contain himself when JJ started talking about me.

I clicked onto the email and felt a bit wary of the message he’d left at the top which read ‘Enjoy’. Callum started explaining how we met at how i initially felt about him but how I grew to like him and stuff. He’d told me he told them that so I was quite confused why JJ would send me this.

“Honestly, I first saw her, I was completely in shock because I watched her YouTube videos before hand and it didn’t feel real. It was like love at first sight. She was literally an angel. She was and still is matter of fact the most beautiful woman I had ever seen so when she turned me down the first time, I was like nope I’m going to keep trying.” I teared up a bit when he said this because I never knew he felt like this.

“And the other day, I was with the guys and a few of them were like lusting over her Instagram and it took every fibre of my body not to beat the shit out of them because when you see guys doing that to your girlfriend it makes you mad, vulnerable and not good enough, you know what I mean?” Lux nodded and JJ muttered he agreed.

“So, I kept silent because I didn’t want to start anything because I know she wouldn’t want me to and honestly it just wouldn’t feel right. Anyways back to the point. I’m completely and utterly in love with her but she doesn’t know because I don’t know how to tell her.” I started sobbing quietly because I didn’t know he felt like this. I finished the rest of the video and wiped my tears and decided to FaceTime him.

“Hey! What’s up?” He answered immediately.

“Hi. Just been watching some stuff. Are you free to come over today?” I asked, hoping he’d say yes.

“Yeah! Wait, have you been crying? Oh God, you have. I’m coming over right now.” I began to explain to him not worry that I wasn’t upset it was more of a happy cry but he didn’t seem to want to understand, so I laughed at him and told him I’d seen him in a bit.

I made myself somewhat decent, just by fixing my hair and putting on a a cleaner hoodie. It wasn’t even 45 minutes until I heard the apartment phone ring. I opened the gates for him and opened the front door slightly so I wouldn’t have to get up to answer the door.

I heard him frantically take off his jacket and shoes at the front door and yell for my name. I called out for him and told him I was in my room. I got up and gave him a long hug and kiss before directing him to my bed.

Once we were comfortable, we started talking about our day and what we were going to do for the rest of the day. We then fell into a comfortable silence.

“Is everything alright? Why were you crying?” He broke the silence unexpectedly but I knew he was going to ask.

“JJ sent me something and it made me quite emotional,” he had already opened his mouth to say something but I cut him off. “Before you start saying you’re going to kill him because we both know you won’t it was a happy kind of emotional to keep it together Airey!” He grinned at me.

“Ok fine, so are you going to show me?” I nodded and grabbed my iPad off of my nightstand. I clicked into the email app and opened the email. I shuffled around a bit so he could see making sure we were both comfortable. Once he saw the thumbnail he gave me a weird look.

“I thought you watched the video.”

“I did but just watch.” I smiled. I played the video and all the emotion came back, tear falling out of my eyes but I wiped them away as quickly as I could but I had the biggest smile on face.

Once the video was done, I sat on his lap, facing him. “That was probably the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard that’s ever come out of your mouth.” I laughed softly. He looked away which made me frown.

“Cal? Whats wrong?”

“I didn’t want to say ‘I love you’, in your bedroom.” He chuckled.

I shrugged because I really didn’t care. He could’ve said while we were in the bathroom I really wouldn’t have cared.

“Cal, I don’t care. As long I’m with you, I’m happy.” He sighed.

“Well, Y/N, I do love you, so much. You really do mean so much to me. Honestly, I do understand if you’re not ready to say it but I do love you.” I smiled and just kissed him.

“I love you too.”

DEATH AT A LOW PRICE CASTING CALLS

Hello and welcome to the Death at a Low Price Reboot Casting Call! Here’s a few things to note.

Death at a Low Price is a sci-fi podcast following the adventures of a few inter-dimensional retail employees. It is extremely character oriented, but does have a plot to it. The podcast also contains characters that are part of the lgbtqa+ community, so please keep that in mind while auditioning. We’re also a very eccentric group, and since the time that we started, we’ve become a close-knit group. I mention this only because, at time, you can find us typing in all caps and screaming at each other about one thing or another. If you do join the cast/crew chat, feel free to mute it if you feel uncomfortable with that level of professionalism, and I’ll simply send you emails with the scripts.

We invite voice actors of any gender, age, and sexuality to try out for a part! And keep in mind, if you do not get a part, but you do other things such as music/art/writing and would like to be considered to help out with that, just let us know. We want this to be a fun experience for all involved!

Flowers for my Girl - an Everlark drabble

My very talented and lovely friends @thegirlfromoverthepond and @litlifelover joined me in another drabble challenge.

We assigned ourselves ‘flowers’ for the topic, 1,500 words max. This is what I came up with.  Rated G.

(Thanks to @peetabreadgirl for eyeballing my words)

Edited to add: Find their drabbles here: Flowers and here: Roses are Red, Violets are Blue

He takes entirely too long at the airport flower shop, moving from bouquet to bouquet, looking for the right one. Though Peeta Mellark isn’t usually indecisive, he wants the flowers to be perfect. He wants everything to be perfect, for her. It’s a special day, after all. It’s not every day you get to meet the girl of your dreams for the first time.

And he’s been waiting so very long for this day.

The florist grins as he wraps the stems in paper. “Special lady?” he asks, and Peeta can’t resist pulling out his phone to show the older man the picture she’d texted him last night. “She’s a beauty,” he says, and Peeta nods. He’s already memorized every pixel of the photo, traced every curve and line with his eyes. Thick, jet-black hair, smooth olive-tinted skin, plush lips puckered in just a hint of a pout. She’s the most gorgeous thing Peeta has ever seen. He’s absolutely head over heels in love with her, and they haven’t even met in person yet.

But today is finally the day.

BLURB: Are ugly sweaters a trend nowadays?

A/N: Obviously heavily inspired by Zico’s song of the same name. Have been wanting to finish this for FOREVER, and finally! It’s also my first gender-neutrel fic so please go easy on me. Hope you guys like :)

“Hyung! Could you get me some ramen from the convenience store?”

“Why can’t you get it yourself?”

Chan swivelled in his chair to face the older boy, pouting slightly. “I’m studying! And it’s cold outside. These finals are really important, you know this! What if I catch a cold out there?”

A loud sigh came from the couch where Soonyoung was laying on. “Then eat the ramen we have! Mingyu just went grocery shopping yesterday.”

“But I want my favourite…” The younger boy was petulant and Soonyoung found himself sighing again, sitting up to face his favourite dongsaeng. The kid looked exhausted – what he needed was sleep, not ramen – but one look at that pout and Soonyoung was slowly standing up, though not without a bit of groaning and feigned reluctance.

“You’re lucky I love you kid,” Soonyoung muttered, searching for a sweater and his keys. Chan’s lips quirked up into a grin. “Thanks hyung. You’re the best.”

“Yeah yeah.” Soonyoung wandered into his room and grabbed the first thing off the floor, pulling it over his head. When he walked out Chan was scrunching his nose at him.

“What?”

“You’re wearing that?” the younger boy asked with disdain.

“What? It’s comfy!”

“It’s ugly.”

“It’s late. No one’s going to look at what I’m wearing.”

“But–”

“Do you want your ramen or not?” Soonyoung threatened. Chan just shrugged, turning back to his work. “Do whatever you want hyung. I’m just saying you never know when you’ll bump into your soulmate and I doubt you want to be caught in that ugly sweater.”

Soonyoung just rolled his eyes and left the dorm. Instantly, a cold whip of air hit him. Ugly or not, he’d rather be warm in the thick sweater than freeze to death trying to make a good impression, soulmate be damned.

Characters: Steve Rogers x reader

Summary: You were what you could easily call an insomniac, but lucky for you there’s a cute coffee shop in your neighborhood that stays open all night. On any other night, you’d be the only one in the place, sipping contently at a latte and writing in your journal, but what happens when a handsome super soldier with a sketchbook draws himself in the picture?

Warnings: Fluff, cuteness overload, bad editting (sorrrrryyy)

A/N: This was an adoooorable request by @xxred-vengeancexx. I hope this was what you were looking for darling, enjoy xo

Also I’m a sucker for rainy atmospheres so I used a bunch of indie music for inspiration. Like Gregory Alan Isakov and David Gray. Totally recommend you guys listen them!
