At the game store I work at we have so many copies of Mass Effect Andromeda because we overstocked and we are encouraged to give them out for free in like a bundle deal to help sell different games. I dont know what my manager is smoking because i more often than not get people staring at me like i showed them a strangled puppy. I once was ringing up a guy who was buying the new Mario and asked if he wanted Andromeda. His rewponse: "so help me if it even touches Mario i will smack you!" Lmao

>literally have to give Andromeda away
>nobody wants it

At that point just use them for coasters or avant-garde decorative crafts

Spa Day (Richie Tozier x Reader)

Prompt: You & Richie just felt like relaxing and what better way than forcing Richie to have a mini home spa with face masks?

Warning: Language

“Pleaassseee do it with me” I whined to Richie but this boy wouldn’t budge. “It’s just a charcoal face mask” I said but he continuously shook his head. “I am not gonna let you put it on my face so you can either A) Use it as blackmail against the guys and Bev or B) Take a picture and show it to them, I am not fucking stupid” Richie explained and I shook my head.

Lore, history and politics from the Guidebook

Here’s a small compilation of bits in Star and Marco’s Guide to Mastering Every Dimension which help us understand the history of Mewni and the way it functions. I’m not comfortable posting more pages than this, though I know the full thing can probably be found online somewhere. My version is the electronic version available on Kobo.

Tom’s dad Dave is referred to as the “Big Guy”. She feels/felt [?] pressure to stay with him for political reasons, despite the fact that he’s basically one step away from being considered a monster.

Glossaryck has trained all recorded queens of Mewni. (Note, the book is “written” following Bon Bon in the chronology of the show)

The area around the Butterfly Castle is referred to as the Butterfly Groundlands. The Underworld is located directly below the castle’s sewers. The Cloud Kingdom of the Pony Heads is located directly above Butterfly Castle. King Pony Head has some influence over the weather below his kingdom.

Toffee is from a place called Septarsis. Ludo’s castle was called Castle Avarius and was considered a “royal protected structure”. The conflict with Toffee’s monsters was apparently concluded with a “Mewman/Monster Accord”. There is also a treaty between Toffee’s people and Ludo’s family called the Avarius/Septarsis Treaty.

Ludo is considered a prince. Another mention of the Butterfly Groundlands, this time making it clear that the previously mentioned “royal protected structures” are those which lie within the Groundlands and are therefore protected my Queen Moon. Ludo’s actions apparently violate the Mewman/Monster Accord.

Heinous is wanted for employing and conjuring (whatever that means) rogue monsters. Another mention of the Mewman/Monster Accord.

It is apparently illegal to alter dimesnional scissors and there appears to be an official registry for them.

Here we just have a full version of the pop-out book from Mewnipendence Day.

Confirmation that in Mewni succession goes down the female line. Suggestion that abdication may be expected.

Letter from Moon to Star. The Grandma Room’s official name is the Tapestry Room.

Celena could disarm monsters with her beauty. We learn the name of another queen, Soupina the Strange, who could use her magic to make soup.

Eclipsa’s chapter was dark “but sorta meh”. We also see a full version of Festivia’s tapestry.

A new tapestry and queen - Skywnne, Queen of Hours, who was apparently greatly respected. Full version of Moon’s tapestry.

The universe has apparently fabricated Glossaryck to explain magic.

Mention of a “grandmother” called Dirhhennia the Heaped who was the only queen ever to be superseded by her younger sister. It is unknown whether the butterfly family continued down Dirhhenia’s line or her sister’s (Crescenta the Eager), however since Dirhhennia is labeled a “grandmother” while Crescenta is not, it seems likely that succession continued down the normal path even when rulership did not.

Another mention of Skywynne.

Skywynne created the spell “Warnicorn Stampede” by altering previously existing spells. She later joined the Magic High Commission and continued creating (and presumably writing down) spells without her wand - this suggests that a Butterfly may still be able to use the spell book even when it technically belongs to her daughter.

Glossaryck apparently doesn’t teach. Dipping down is to wand-magic as sprinting is to walking.

Glossaryck actually created the MHC to help Mewmans understand and interact with magic. He considers them his kids. “I love you” - clearly his claim to “not have feelings” was a lie.

Hekapoo’s skill is unique, she was created to help Mewmans traverse the multiverse. Glossaryck can “go wherever”.

Lekmet was made to explain “the impermanence of existence” - was he made to die? Moon’s role is to manage the relationship between Mewmans and magic. Glossaryck doesn’t even remember making Omnitraxis. He stops the multiverse from eating itself.

Moon took pole dancing classes lol. Mewni is matrilineal and men can only become a part of the royal family through marriage.

The Pony Heads on the other hand follow agnatic-cognatic succession, where women can only inherit if there are no legitimate male heirs. King Pony Head ended up having 13 daughters. First ever mention of a Queen Pony Head, however…

… they seem to assume that there will be no more Pony Head children after Pranciss and name our Pony Head princess (also her first name is Lilacia), so perhaps Queen Pony Head is no longer in the picture. There is a tradition of the second-born Pony Head acting as the commander-in-chief of the Pony Head army.

There is a tradition of the 5th born Pony Head acting as the party ambassador for the kingdom.

The cheekmarks have been in the family for generations because of their close proximity to magic. Attention is drawn to the 4 card suits.

The wand has been handed down from queen to firstborn princess for all of recorded history.

A map of Mewni.

I promised, now I’m delivering.

It’s official - as of today, I have reached 1K in followers, and that means… Time for the “peak behind the curtain,” that I’ve promised you.

Also another thing that really just rustles my jimmies is the fact that quite apart from everything else, buckleming don’t know how to structure a story?

Like, we’ve all talked before about their idiotic each-one-writing-alternating-acts process, but can somebody please just like, mail them copies of some basic-ass plot diagrams? Or like, force them to retake grade nine English where the rest of us learned about How to Write a Story?

This week, just so you guys know, I’m overwhelmed in the best sense. It’s all because of you and all of the amazing, insane, wonderful, loyal acts and feelings you’ve expressed not only this week but the past year, the past 10 years. I’m not trying to get up here and bore you with my feelings but I’m about to be 28 and there are so many of you here tonight that have been hanging out with me online, or listening to my music for 10 years, 12 years, 6 years, whatever it is. I am trying so hard to process the way that I feel about what we’ve done this week. It’s just different this time, it just is. I used to feel happy and just jump around. This time I’m so happy and I’m so proud of us. It’s a different kind of happiness. It’s like a contentment and a pride that I have for you and how close we are and that you guys would come here and went to the pop-up show yesterday. That was crazy. It’s all just so much to take and I am so happy to see you. I just hope you had a good time tonight so far. I’m going to say hi to you guys, I’m going to take pictures, and that’s what’s gonna happen next. I don’t even know what to say. I’m so happy that you like me, thank you for being here. I’ll see you in a minute!

most of us know how important representation is, but i feel like we don’t always realize how vital it is for white cishet people to see representation as well. like my white cishet 65 year old mom’s favorite show is brooklyn nine nine, and when she first began watching it she was so perplexed by ray holt. she had never really seen black gay characters in television before, and the very few times she has they were stereotypes, so she was just so interested by him bc “gay people can be like this?”

like obviously it would be great if she already knew lgbt+ people aren’t the tired stereotypes that society tries to portray us as, and it would be great if she was more educated that Yes black gay men exist and are common. but she didn’t know that, because she’s never really seen it. but just watching brooklyn nine nine has educated her so much!! she’s seeing a black gay man run a police squad, she’s seeing a large black man be one of the most gentle people ever, she’s seeing women of color empowering each other and totally kicking ass, she’s seeing a jewish man repeatedly talking about issues such as transphobia, homophobia, anti-semitism, racism, and she’s also seeing all these characters understand when it ISNT their place to talk about certain issues

so my mom sees stuff like this and thinks “oh i was so wrong about these groups” and then she recommends these types of shows to her other ignorant friends, and she also corrects people when they say bigoted things that enforce the toxic stereotypes she is now educated on. all from some proper representation on a half-hour tv show!! like representation doesn’t just help minorities, it helps the privileged people who have ingrained bigotry in them to see what minorities are really like and what they can be and it’s so important!! and then these privilaged people can move forward and use their privilege to try and help minorities. representation of minorities helps the privileged too, and helps society to evolve!! so can bigots stop saying that it only benefits minorities. even if it did only help minorities that wouldn’t be a bad thing, but that isn’t the case so?? stop??

It’s no small feat.
It took a leader hiding pain and exhaustion under a careless laugh, an artist brimming with inspiration despite his tears, a friend with a big heart and warm hands to take away the difficult times; a dreamer with ambition and hope to inspire confidence, and an intelligent soul with the wisdom to make the tough decisions in a midst of awe and confusion, to paint this canvas. Here is to five incredible men who work so hard to fill the voids in our hearts with holes in their own. Here is to five brave men who stand to fight the odds again. Here is to Highlight.

It really is still beautiful.

Okay, shit’s fucked. You have a test in less than 24 hours and you’re freaking out. But fear not! This study plan is made for you to retain the biggest amout of information you can and practice what you know. Let’s start:

  1. Get water and something to eat.
  2. Get your books, your class notes, everything,  + something to highlight.
  3. Mark what’s important (things your teacher talked about over and over, the main points of the chapter etc)
  4. Write down formulas, chemical reactions, basically anything you need to memorize step by step and put it up your wall. Read it several times during the day.
  5. Read everything again and record yourself.
  6. Listen while writing down key words.
  7. Now, you’re going to calm down. Take a deep breath. Start off by asking yourself “what?” answer with the main point. “Why? explain. “Why?explain. Keep going like that until you get to the point where you don’t know. Look at your books and get your answer. Keep asking “why? (same thing with math and physics: “why did I get this result?”)
  8. Get your materials and answer at least 10 questions. This way, you’ll be learning both the subject and how the questions are usually made. Don’t get nervous if you don’t get anything right at first, just keep doing it.
  9. Repeat number 5 (don’t need to write down anything)
  10. +10 questions and explain them to yourself after
  11. Listen to your recordings.(+ one more time before you go to sleep)
  12. Calm down, you did it. If you want to (or still have time), read everything over again.

REMINDERS:

  • The key is to do one thing at a time.
  • You won’t be able to remember everything if you read something fast over and over. Take it easy and you’ll get more information.
  •  It’s easy to get stressed in this situation, but you need to keep in mind that you CAN do it.
  • Do a favor for yourself and don’t procrastinate. This is something important and you’ll feel much better knowing that you did something.
  • GOOD LUCK!!
Keith Kogan: A Portrayal of Homosexuality Done Right

I always tell people that Voltron is a lot more clever than it gets credit for. It can spin a cliche/trope on it’s head beautifully, and while all the characters are easily digestible archetypes (i.e: the nerd, the loner), the creators add layers to them that not only make them feel like real people, but also makes social commentary on those very archetypes.

In no better way do they do this than with the character of Keith.

Before I get into how and why Keith deviates from you’re typical gay male protagonist, I want to establish as a fact that Keith is homosexual.

If you don’t see - what I consider to be - blatant evidence that Keith’s gay, well, I can’t say I blame you. Most people have ingrained heteronormative lenses, meaning they’ll miss the subtext of homosexual characters. Us in the LGBT community are much more attuned to seeing these because, well, for one, we’re queer, and two, because up until around the 1960s, the portrayal of gay characters in the media was illegal and could only be shown subtextually.

So it makes sense that people overlook the very nuanced portrayal of Keith’s sexuality, but if you’re willing to take off those lenses, it’s certainly there.

The first standout appearance of this is in season 1 episode 6: Taking Flight. Or as I like to call it, the day the shows name officially changed to Gaytron: Legendary Homosexuals

I think one of the disconnects for some viewers is that they don’t completely grasp the saying, “Show don’t tell,” the mantra of pretty much every writer. Not always, but typically, showing is better than telling. Or more accurately, telling needs to be used at the correct times and for the right reasons.

So how do they show us that Keith’s gay in this episode? Through three things, body language, actions, and juxtaposition.

You don’t have to be a body language specialist to understand the clear meaning behind Keith’s posture. Leaning, looking someone up and down, and a small, lingering smile/smirk are all subconscious signs of attraction. They’re also common ways of depicting male attraction in the media.

Speaking of depicting male attraction, lets look at how Lance’s flirts in the same episode.

Leaning. Check. Lingering smile. Check. Engaged eye contact. Check. The biggest difference is how blatant they are in their intentions, but that comes down to pure character difference. Keith is self assured and more genuinely confident. He also has a lot of walls up and isn’t so open. While Lance puts on a show/over compensates so that he might appear cool. You can also see this in their respective ‘I’m-checking-you-out’ postures. Lance’s body is open, he’s engaged and his eyes are on Nyma’s eyes. While Keith’s posture is interested, but more in an appreciative way. His body is closed off, and instead of looking Rolo in the eyes, he looks at his - um - physique. This is really fitting for Keith’s character, who again, has walls, and who also puts this mission first, and most likely has no intention of letting this attraction lead to anything other than having a nice piece of eye candy around for a couple of hours.

This is textbook juxtaposition. So moving along now.

I don’t want this to be a shippy post, so I won’t add all the times I think Keith shows attraction towards Lance, but I do want to mention this scene.

The use of the rainbow(the most recognizable symbol in the gay community) over lapping the bi flag colors is relevant for the same reason why the use of purple to symbolize the Galra is relevant. Purple represents royalty, imperialism, but also gloom and danger. The use of these colors and symbols are conscious choices.

While the above scene shows that Keith is attracted to men, this scene shows that Keith is also not attracted to woman.

What I love about this scene is that it’s such a cliche, and like I said up above, Voltron is good at turning those on their head. Here they utilize the tiered and true trope of accidentally falling into each others arms. If this was a hetero-centric Romcom than this moment would’ve been obviously meant to establish attraction, but instead, it does the opposite. Rather Keith personally likes Allura or not, she’s a knock out. So, if he’s attracted to women at all, and isn’t use to having that contact- which hes not - he should be at least somewhat shocked/flustered. If it had been an attractive guy that fell into Keith’s arms, I have no doubt that his reactions would be something beyond that blank stare. Considering he literally gasps every time Lance touches him

The last piece of “evidence” I want to show isn’t as blatant and may just be my perspective, but it’s worth mentioning.

The themes of Keith’s Galra arc are very reminiscent to coming out. He’s discovering parts of himself. He’s internalizing and hiding away said parts. He’s scared of what the people he cares about will think of him when they find out. If this is intentional, it’s brilliant, because while Voltron is set in a futurist world where sexuality is supposedly not an Issue, it still is for the youth of today. Meaning by having these similar themes, Keith becomes more relatable to LGBT people.

This is the part where, if you still don’t think Keith’s gay, I’ll have to calmly yet firmly ask you to get off my fucking lawn. For the rest of you, onward to victory!!!

LGBT individuals have a history of being badly represented in the media, especially now that gay characters have become a marketing strategy for a more progressive consumer base. Their whole character is often reduced to stereotypes or used as a giant walking gay pride flag that reads: look at us, we’re hip and with the times. Meaning, the majority of these characters plots and personalities are based solely on their sexuality. Which is a problem, because not only does it not help to normalize homosexuality, but it’s just not relatable to LGBT people.

I’ll give you an example. My mom’s a lesbian. She married to a woman and has two daughters, one who is trans and one who is bi. But despite how “gay"her life may seem, she very rarely describes herself as that way. She’s not active in LGBT issues. She doesn’t involve herself in the community. Shes not lesbian first and everything else afterward, and she is certainly not alone in that experience. Don’t get me wrong, LGBT individuals are more aware of their sexuality than cishet people, but it’s typically only because others point it out and remind us that its not "normal.” Still, for a lot of LGBT people, our sexuality is just one part of our personal narrative, not the whole damn book.

Another problem with LGBT representations is that their often just built off of stereotypes. Gay men are feminized and their sexuality is typically made the butt of a joke. They are shown as being promiscuous and having commitment issues. These are the standards.

But Keith abolishes all of those, and in such a seamless way too.

While Keith’s character is in no way excessively macho, he’s certainly not feminine either. He doesn’t mind getting sweaty. He’s temperamental and has anger issue. He lived a pretty low maintenance life in a desert shack, sleeps in his jeans like a heathen, and probably uses a dagger to peel oranges. Keith is a masculine character. He’s confident and self assured, but not vain. He’s emotional, but in a very private way. Whereas many other portrayal of gay men depict them as almost theatrically sensitive, confident, but only in their sexual prowess, and self absorbed, but only when it come to their looks and not when it comes to their skills.

This is already an impressive deviation, but what really makes Keith’s portrayal stand out is the way his sexuality is but a mere footnote in what makes his character his character, and how that fits into his personality and story arc so well.

The first thing you have to realize about Keith is that, while he certainly wants to connect with people, it’s not his number one priority. He has barriers. He fears rejection, and despite wanting to feel as if he belongs, its not hard to see how Keith has been conditioned to assume he’ll inevitability be left behind, and therefore places personal relationships low on his list of priorities. Meaning, yes, he was checking out Rolo, and yes, I believe that he’s very very fond of Lance, but I can’t imagine that Keith really sees these relationships becoming something substantial or romantic, and thus doesn’t put too much effort into perusing them. You can really tell what’s important to a character by what they focus their time on. Take Lance for instance, he’s a character who blatantly cares about friendships and has no problem openly flirting. That’s not to say Lance doesn’t care about the war, just like Keith’s reluctance to pursue meaningful bonds doesn’t mean he doesn’t want them. It just means that relationships and love obviously mean a lot to Lance.

So what does Keith focus on? Well, he shows the most focus on relationships in season one, when the connections he had with his makeshift family was the post pressing thing going on. (You cant really form Voltron if you don’t connect with the other members) But after season one, with all the changes Keith goes through, we see a big shift in his priorities. First he finds out about his heritage, then Shiro disappears and he is thrust into leadership, and then most recently, he joins the Blade.

By framing Keith’s character like this, it allows the creators to make his sexuality natural and relatable in a very interesting way. Because as LGBT people know, our sexuality isn’t the most important part of our lives. Just like Keith, we have more to focus on.

That’s not to say that his sexuality will never be shown explicitly. Like I said, I don’t want to get too shippy, but I truly believe that Laith is endgame. So if and when that happens, his sexuality will naturally come into play. Sadly, their will be a lot of people who call it forced because they missed the subtext and are use to seeing gay characters depicted more as spectacles than real people.

Voltron has really done something special here. They’ve create a universe where sexuality isn’t an issue, and they make it believable by never bringing it up outside of naturally occurring, unforced, appropriate context. Even better, because the Voltron universe is so vastly different than our own, it would’ve been easy to make LGBT characters that we couldn’t relate to, but they don’t. They manage this so well that I honestly can’t phantom Keith’s sexuality being anything but homosexual despite the fact it’s never been explicitly shown.

But most importantly, they’re creating a higher standard for LGBT representation. They are normalizing it on a show aimed towards children who are heavily influenced by the media they consume.

That, my friends, is worth applauding.

ok now that im off the streets, i really want everyone to know what a massive thing it was for taylor to come see us in the snl line. she found out that we were camping out and literally told her mom that she had to come down and see us straight away. there was a guy in line behind us who lines up for every single snl show and has gotten in to the last 107 shows and he was absolutely stunned that taylor showed up to see us. noone does it. not the small names, not the big names.

her parents came down with her and she brought us merch and was so genuinely thankful and amazed that we were camping out to see her. she wasnt rushed, she took time to speak to every single person in line and take multiple photos with them. she even recognised me and knew my name.

i dont care if im annoying but i will never stop talking about this because i want everyone to know what an amazing, kind, genuine person taylor is, how amazing her family are and how good her team is. she loves all of us so much. she didnt have to come see us and we certainly were not expecting her too. the thought never even crossed our minds when we decided to camp out. but there we were sitting on the street and she just rocked up out of nowhere, no warning, no fanfare. so i will fight anyone that ever tries to suggest that she doesnt care about us.

how did you and toby meet? alternativly, how did you and Hussie meet?

toby and i met on the mspa forums but we met IRL for the first time uhhhhhhhhhhhh i guess he was staying at my house while he was visiting the west coast?

during that same trip i met andrew who just happened to be in town. it was kind of a whirlwind of a weekend.

toby, our friend, and i were headed to AX since a lot of our friends were in town for that and i live a train ride away down in long beach. this is before undertale so nobody cared about toby (at least not in the way they do now) so we were trying to cross the street to the convention center and our friend turns around and says ‘wheres toby’ and like… in the middle of the street surrounded by literally thousands of anime teens we’d lost him.

after looking around, using our natural height advantage (i’m 6′3″) over the cosplaying children we spotted him back on the corner talking to a mysterious shadowy figure. We go back and were like what gives toby you scared us but he’s like oh, yeah he just _________ (FACTCHECK EDIT: andrew says he “grazed his arm with his claw”)

I look, trying to see beyond the suspicious hoodie and sunglasses and its none other than andrew. this was my first time meeting him. apparently he just HAPPENED to be there at that exact moment and he just HAPPENED to see us and instead of drawing attention to himself (homestuck was still going on at the time) he just reached out and grabbed toby.

anyway we hung out a bit and he had somewhere to be but in the evening he texts us and asks if we wanna grab drinks after he finishes up with a meeting he’s havin at this place. We agree and underestimate how far it is and how hot it is outside at dusk in LA and we walk to the place. its about a mile and a half uphill and we’ve been at a convention in 95 degree weather all day and we arrive just like… moist, you know?

the place is………… extremely upscale. I realize I’m wearing shorts and a fucking homestuck hoodie, toby is wearing a misprinted sbahj shirt and his now iconic bright red pants and our friend is dressed in like.. a track suit. We show up and obviously are getting some looks but andrew flags us down and says he’s almost done so just to hang out at the bar and then we’ll all grab a table.

We go to the bar and to the left of us, i wish i was kidding, was a beautiful woman in what i’d describe as an evening gown talking to a guy dressed like a fucking boat captain. I thought they might be cosplayers but no they were literally just real life rich people. I turn to our right and i close my eyes thinking “please be some anime teens or something” no luck idiot its like some impeccably dressed business men. I realize how out of our element we are and i think oh god we are in some bougie LA bar for fucking boat captains and im wearing a sweaty hero of space hoodie we need to order a drink before we get kicked out.

I’m no stranger to bars so i order my usual “liquid confidence” (shelf bourbon, double, neat) and they card me. I’m like… in my 30s so this is new and i realize they probably got a bunch of anime dweebs in here this weekend and its like oh ok w/e n..o….. swe..at………………………………………… and i realize i’ve left my ID at home. I desperately change my order to a diet coke and nervously laugh and look at our friend and mouth “OR-DER SOME-THING” and she says to the bartender and “I’ll have a water.”

my attention shifts to toby. I look at him pleadingly, my mind racing. please order something toby. we were foolish to think we could mingle with the upper class, but please, i beg of you and i’ll never forget him saying “mmmmmmmm I’ll have an appletini” the bartender looks at us like with just… the utmost disgust. The bartender literally put my receipt IMMEDIATELY into my cup. not next to it, not underneath it. literally IN my fucking cup of ice and gives me a can of fucking diet coke.

anyway about five minutes later andrew was like hey ok got that table and i couldnt be more relieved. wow this turned out to be really long.
