this song is like going back in time to the 70's

I recently saw a video of a young woman talking about all of the reasons our generation, the Millennials, sucks and that’s she’s sorry for what we’ve become. Here is my, a fellow Millennial, response:

You say we’re just ‘existing’ and not ‘contributing anything to society.’ The oldest Millennial is 34, the youngest is 12, we haven’t had time to contribute anything yet. We’re trying to survive in a world that no other generation has had to grow up in, with a tanked economy and most of our childhood hearing nothing but war in the Middle East on the news while also being profoundly connected. We didn’t do that.

You say we’re no longer polite, we don’t say ‘no, sir’ or ‘no ma’am’ anymore and we no longer hold the door open for our elders or women. We also don’t expect low-paid workers to break their backs for us, or at yell at them when they make a mistake, like my 60-year-old grandfather does. We say ‘no problem’ when there’s a mistake in order, and politely stand by while the 40-something-year-old soccer mom huffs and rolls her eyes as the new girl struggles to punch in the correct code.

You say our music objectifies women and glorifies drugs and criminals. There has been no significant change from the songs that were once sung or the singers who sang them. Many of the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s performers were drug addicts, womanizers, and criminals in their own right. Elvis Presley was child abuser, John Lennon raped his many girlfriends and most of the music I grew up listening, which was 80’s rock, were performed by habitual drug abusers. Let’s not pretend like human nature took a drastic turn when 1983 rolled around.

You say we cuss to prove a point. We, as a generation, have learned it’s not the words we fucking use, it’s the passion in them that we care about. As a generation, we’ve become more interested in politics and the world around us, cursing is minor problem when we consider the political climate the older generation has plunged us into.

You say we use ‘bae’ to describe the ones we love. Bae, originally, means ‘before anyone else’ which is incredibly romantic in my opinion. Bae is also hardly ever taken seriously, it’s a jokey way to talk about someone you love. Language changes, I doubt people were happy when we changed ‘wherefore’ into ‘why.’ The greatest injustice we can do to our language and culture is not allow it to evolve and grow with us.

You say we idolize people like Kim Kardashian and shame people like Tim Tebow. Kim Kardashian is a business woman who had a private video she made with a lover illegally revealed. Instead of fading into obscurity, she stood tall and did not let the sexual shaming she endured stop her and now runs a multi-million dollar industry, is married to one of the richest men in the world, and had two beautiful children. Tim Tebow is a Christian who was criticized by a few people for praying in an open stadium while most people just wanted to see a game.

You say we’re lazy and entitled, we want to make a lot of money and get a free education but we’re not willing to put in the work. We are not lazy. I cannot tell you how many people I meet who have gone to school full time while working a part or even full-time job just to make ends meet. We’re not entitled, we’re bitter. In the 70’s, you could work a part time job over the summer and pay your way through four years of school because tuition was $400, now just to walk in the door of your local community college you need to drop $14,000. We have kids who aren’t even old enough to drink, yet are already $20,000 deep in debt. Debt that won’t go away because even filing for bankruptcy won’t erase it. And even with that education, there’s no guarantee you’ll find something in your field. I have a friend who has a degree in microbiology and she’s making $9 an hour selling $15 candles. I have another friend who has a masters in Sport Psychology and Counseling. She’s a bartender. My parents bought a three bedroom house in the suburbs in the late 90’s while my generation is imagining apartments with breezy windows and trying to get enough money to get food while we scrounge up less than $8 a week.

You say we spend more time online making friends and less time building relationships and our relationship’s appearance on Facebook is more important than building the foundation that relationship is based on. We are a generation that is profoundly connected and no other generation has seen this before. We have more opportunities to meet people from all over the world and better chances to understand other worldviews and lifestyles. Being able to stay home and talk to people over the internet is cheaper and more relaxing than having to force yourself to interact with people in public settings after a long day of minimum wage labor. The people I talk to more over the internet are people I have been friends with for years. It’s easier to talk about the day’s events over Skype or Facebook Messenger than arrange a day to meet in person when you have conflicting schedules. I truly don’t believe most people care what others think of their friendship or how their relationships ‘look’ on social media. Most often what you are calling ‘our relationship’s appearance on Facebook’ are documented and searchable memories.

You say our idea of what we believe in is going on Facebook and posting a status on Facebook. Not everyone can join in with the crowds of protesters. It’s easy to see what others have to say through the comments and argue back without the threat of violence. And when this generation does organize events to stand up for ourselves, it’s met with childish name-calling or being reduced to a ‘riot.’

You say we believe the number of follows we have reflects who we are as a person. It’s nice knowing there’s 20 or 50 or maybe even 100 people who care what you have to say or think. We live in an age where we can and will be heard.

You say we don’t respect our elders, that we don’t respect our country. Our elders grew up in one of the greatest economic booms in history and in turn made it the worst economic situation since the 1930’s all while blaming kids who were only five at the time for it. We stand on our flag because it means nothing, it’s a pretty banner for an ugly lie. We’re a country that says you can make it if you just work hard enough while, in the end, that will almost never happen. We’re a country that becomes irate at the idea of 20-something college kids standing on some canvas dyed red, white, and blue but seem to shrug off the millions of homeless, disabled veterans.

You say we’re more divided than ever before. Ever before what? When black folk couldn’t drink from the same fountain as white folk? When women couldn’t vote? When white southerners fought for the idea that they could keep black people as slaves? We’re a generation that is done with injustice and when you fight for social change, you will divide people.

You say everything that was frowned up is celebrated. What does that mean? We frowned up gay marriage. We frowned upon wives being able to say no to sex with their husbands. We frowned up interracial marriage. We frowned up black folk being allowed to go to school with white folk. We frowned upon women being allowed to vote. Are those things not worth celebrating?

You say nothing has value in our generation, that we take advantage of everything. We value friendship more, we value the fists of change, we value social justice and family and the right to marry those we love. We value the right to be yourself, wholly and fully. We value the right to choose and we value the idea of fighting what you believe in, even when everyone older than you is telling you you’re what’s wrong with the country.

You say we have more opportunities to succeed than those before but we don’t ‘appreciate’ them. We are a bitter generation. You can finance a boat for 3.9% but you have to pay back college tuition plus 8.9%. We may have more opportunities but those opportunities cost money we don’t have.

You say you can see why we’re called ‘Generation,’ but we’re not Generation Y, we’re Millennials and we do feel entitled. We were promised a strong economy and inexpensive education. We had the world in our hands and we were going to make it better. And it was ripped away from us because of incompetent rulers, illegal wars, and greedy corporations and we get blamed for it. Crime has gone down, abortion and unintended pregnancy has lowered, people are living longer, people are more educated, people are less likely to die from violent crime or diseases, yet my generation is touted as the worst generation and for what? Crimes that we’re accused of that happened before we could even wipe our own ass? We were raised better, and we were raised in a society that treated, and continues to treat, us like garbage. And we are done. We are not sorry, we did nothing wrong.

Some of y’all are asking about the ritual with the scotch, so HERE IS A STORY THAT SPANS SEVERAL GENERATIONS OF SHENNANIGANS.

So my dad’s side of the family is a bunch of rowdy farm boys with a dark sense of humor. My oldest uncle Tim was the first to get married and the rest of them orchestrated this complicated, almost medieval style dance routine on the dance floor where they would switch dance partners mid-song and slowly danced the bride towards the door, swept her up, put her in the back of the pickup truck, and took her away.

Tim doesn’t notice until the song ends. This was in the 70′s, way before cell phones. The front desk of the hotel gets a call, it’s one of my uncles. “We have your wife. The price is one bottle of scotch.”

He’s like ‘what is this shit?’ And he figures they can’t hold out too long. They have to come back sometime. No. They are literally driving her around the block several times, stopping at pay phones to check in to see if he’s gotten the ransom. This goes on for about an hour.

So he goes out and gets a bottle of scotch, puts it by the door as they drive by and everyone returns.

All the boys got married in the order of their birth and let me just say… they’re not above petty payback. Next one up is Jay who just… seems to forget entirely that his brothers are complete jackasses. Also, he was kind of the ringleader at the last one so there’s no way they could do it to him!

Haha… ha…. haaaaaaaa… oh, uncle Jay. You sweet summer child… who is also several decades older than me.

Bride gets kidnapped, almost in the same manner as Tim’s. The price, as always, is a bottle of scotch. But Jay… oh… Jay…

Jay just HAD to get his ass married on a Sunday and this is Indiana, buck-o. There ain’t no alcohol sales on Sundays. No liquor stores, no grocery stores, no convenience stores. Nowhere. But there WAS a bar at the Marriott holding the reception. So he had to pay the front desk $75 for a bottle of scotch maybe worth $20 so he could get his wife back.

A pattern emerges.

My uncle Moe was next in line. They…. eloped for reasons, but for the purposes of this story we will say that he avoided a situation where his brothers could steal his wife. It’s kind of a personality thing with him, we’ve noticed. Just… ‘oh! Let me avoid this conflict entirely.’

Next up is my dad, who is a fun-loving dude who had his reception at a bowling alley and he was NOT, I repeat: NOT- going to have this night ruined by larceny when there is IMPORTANT BOWLING TO BE DONE. Buys a bottle of scotch and and presents it to his brothers with a big audience just so no one can claim that he didn’t. Everyone has fun.

Moe’s first marriage falls through, and I’m not saying that there’s superstitious reasons for this but I’m just saying- he most certainly DID NOT present a bottle of scotch as an offering at the reception so we must reasonably assume that this had something to do with it. He gets married again and you better believe that there was a bottle of scotch waiting for his brothers at their table.

So this tradition carried on into the next generation. No one actually expects that the four of them are up to kidnapping anyone when they’re well into their 50′s, but no one is about to risk it. There is a bottle of scotch at the table where the brothers sit at every wedding.

But my cousin Julia is a perfectionist and if there is any detail that might go wrong, she is going to obsess over it. Because of this, she has a tendency to overcompensate to make sure that NOTHING goes wrong. NOTHING.

She plans her big moment TO THE MINUTE and a week before the wedding she has this revelation… she has heard… stories.

Oh no.

The scotch.

Around the same time, my grandma is moving out of her old house and she’s inviting family members to rifle through her old things before she gives them to Goodwill. Me, my dad, Tim, and Jay are all there. We’re about to leave when Moe comes up the drive way with a BIG BOX.

And Gran is like ‘I don’t need more stuff… I don’t need more stuff.. what the fresh hell have you brought to me this time, son of mine?’

He sets it on the floor and it clinks.

“Julia has ordered me to bring this as a preemptive offer to ensure that there will be no need for a ransom.”

He has brought 24 bottles of scotch. Each brother, including himself, can have six bottles. Whatever debt might have been incurred from his first marriage has been paid off. Her children, and her children’s children, and her children’s children’s children… will no longer need to live in fear of kidnapping on their wedding night.

This is a sharp contrast to my sister-in-law, who learned of this tradition a week before her wedding, went out and bought a bottle of scotch, slammed it down on their table, and told them to fight for it.

“You worry too much, babe!” He screamed, still upside down. I rolled my eyes and grabbed his phone on the bed. I unlocked it and saw a picture of him kissing me on the cheek as his wallpaper. Smiling, I saw that his music app was open. “Ow! Damnit Ned left a part of his Death Star here.”

I looked up and saw Peter, now right side up, clutching his hand with a lone Lego piece beside him. “Told you you were gonna get hurt.” I went back to scrolling through his playlist.

“Whatcha lookin’ at, huh?” The bed suddenly bounced when Peter flopped down on it. He wrapped his arms around my waist and rested his head on my shoulder watching me scroll.

Grammys Preview: The Best Bets For The Big Four Awards

ALBUM OF THE YEAR

Sheeran has racked up nominations numbering in the double digits (and in 2016 won song of the year for “Thinking Out Loud”). Lamar has more trophies to his name (seven to Sheeran’s two), but none in the general categories. Regardless, Sheeran’s Divide and Lamar’s DAMN. should be locks for nominations. Joining those likely frontrunners, Lorde’s Melodrama is a solid bet: Though her follow-up to 2013’s Pure Heroine came up a little short commercially, it was considered a daring, winning step forward after her rookie success. JAY-Z’s 4:44 – a thoughtful, confessional album from a true icon – looks like it could nab him long overdue recognition in a category in which he has never been nominated (provided the album’s exclusive TIDAL release didn’t limit its audience too much).

Don’t discount the influence of two of the year’s most powerful artist narratives. Gaga’s intimate Joanne met lukewarm reviews, but it has Mark Ronson’s imprimatur and caps off a year when Gaga won plenty of hearts with a triumphant Super Bowl performance, her revelation of her chronic battle with fibromyalgia and the release of her well-received Netflix documentary, Gaga: Five Foot Two. And with We Got It From Here…Thank You 4 Your Service, A Tribe Called Quest offered a stunning, unexpected comeback recorded with Phife Dawg before his death in 2016 – and, as Q-Tip and crew announced, their final project.

Elsewhere, Harry Styles, inspired by classic rock from Bowie to Badfinger, was a remarkable transformation for the former One Direction-er. The Bruno Mars juggernaut could well roll on with 24K Magic, as could The Weeknd with Starboy. Miranda Lambert’s powerful double album, The Weight of These Wings, was arguably Nashville’s strongest offering this year. Though Metallica has never been nominated in a general category, its Hardwired… To Self-Destruct was widely seen as a welcome return to form. Among rap’s contenders, Logic’s Everybody and Big Sean’s I Decided were big hits that earned critical notice. As to who might fill the unexpected outsider slot Sturgill Simpson occupied in 2017, Americana favorite Jason Isbell’s The Nashville Sound (the rare indie release to hit No. 1 on the country albums chart) and Father John Misty’s Pure Comedy garnered sufficient support to make both long-shot contenders.

RECORD OF THE YEAR

With nearly 5 billion streams and 4 billion video views, Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito” (featuring Daddy Yankee and, on the remix, Justin Bieber) was the year’s biggest sensation. Honoring the first Spanish-language song since “Macarena” to top the Hot 100 – which went on to tie Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day” for most weeks ever at No. 1 on the chart – would be an ideal opportunity for The Recording Academy to recognize Latin music’s ever-increasing impact on the mainstream. Among the year’s other chart-toppers, Sheeran’s “Shape of You” and Lamar’s “Humble” seem like shoo-ins. At least one of Mars’ two hits, “That’s What I Like” and “24K Magic,” should earn a spot. Styles’ soaring “Sign of the Times” could earn recognition as a strong debut single. And among Nashville voters, Sam Hunt’s “Body Like a Back Road” – which topped the Hot Country Songs chart for a record-shattering 34 weeks (and crossed over to the Hot 100’s top 10) – should get the biggest push in this category.

From there, the year’s biggest singles covered a wide range of styles. The massive success of Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles” and Migos’ “Bad and Boujee” made next-gen Atlanta rap impossible to ignore. “Malibu” epitomized Miley Cyrus’ ’70s Southern California reboot, and The Weeknd delivered two strong tracks in “Starboy” and “I Feel It Coming.” The unlikely (but highly successful) combination of The Chainsmokers and Coldplay for “Something Just Like This” ticks a lot of boxes for voters, while Imagine Dragons’ “Believer” could represent for modern rock. And though “Look What You Made Me Do” was polarizing, never underestimate the power of Taylor Swift – did any other song generate more debate this year?

SONG OF THE YEAR

Sheeran’s “Shape of You” (written with a team including producer Steve Mac) and Lamar’s “Humble” (credited to Lamar and Mike WiLL Made-It) will likely face off again for the top songwriting honor, and many other record of the year competitors could join them: Styles and a team led by producer Jeff Bhasker for “Sign of the Times”; Mars and crew (including production teams Shampoo Press & Curl and The Stereotypes) for “That’s What I Like” or “24K Magic”; Cyrus and collaborator Oren Yoel for “Malibu”; and Hunt alongside Zach Crowell, Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne for “Body Like a Back Road.”

That cohort’s strongest competition might come from songs with timely (or timeless) messages. Gaga’s raw vulnerability on “Million Reasons” – written with Hillary Lindsey and Ronson, and roundly considered the most solid offering on Joanne – makes it her best chance at a major nomination. Logic’s “1-800-273-8255,” written with Arjun Ivatury and featured vocalists Alessia Cara and Khalid, was an ambitious commentary on suicide prevention that has peaked at No. 3 on the Hot 100.

Other new artists with chances for a nod: James Arthur, whose “Say You Won’t Let Go” (by Arthur, Neil Ormandy and Steve Solomon) was the year’s breakout low-key ballad, and Julia Michaels, whose “Issues,” written with Justin Tranter and producers Benny Blanco and Stargate, introduced her as a major new voice. And yet again, don’t count out Swift – this time for “Better Man,” a song she wrote alone (a possible plus to some authenticity-seeking voters) and then handed off to her friends in Little Big Town.

" if David Bowie hasn't slept with Styles yet, then he doesn't resemble Jagger.” VERY LONG THREAD of parallels

Alright if you want it so badly… You really wanna go there…

You really want me to give you the dirt…

NOT SAYING THEY ARE SPOT ON DOPPELGANGERS

btw

Any Rolling Stones fans, please don’t take this the wrong way, i will not say one is better than the other. This is just for us to celebrate their similarities. And as the song goes “ Mick Jagger could be Harry’s dad. Vas Happenin’ mum? Vas Happenin’ Mick? “

Exhibit a)

Them laughing together sure is something.

Awe cuddling and relaxing. Nice!

categorized and generalized all the types of tumblr aesthetics i have come across.

I have been going through archives for the last five years on tumblr now, and i can’t help but notice that a lot of blogs are the same. There seems to be a pattern in the sorts of aesthetics i run up against. So, in my exhaustion, i tried coming up with all the different aesthetics, and i tried to put them into certain categories. Obviously, some of these categories are mixed with others.

It must be because I’m very tired
But ur still hilarious
Night lol

With a heavy sigh, you lean back in your seat, a blush creeping up your cheeks at the realization you probably crossed a line or something with those messages you sent to him on Saturday night. You’d prayed throughout the whole day after you’d get a reply, and when that didn’t happen you’d checked your phone every twenty minutes on Monday and today every time your phone buzzed. It’s kinda lame.

Really, you have no actual reason to be this upset about it.

“Joonie asked me about you today in class”, Jeongyeon says when your professor seems to still be too busy shuffling through his papers to give a damn about what’s going on in his class.

Crowd Pleaser

Warning: smut, a lil daddy kink

Word count: 2.1k

If there was one thing you never got tired of, it was watching Harry perform. He completely transformed when he stepped on the stage. His soft, demure demeanor morphing into that of 70s rock star. The way he danced around the stage, getting lost in every song made you weak in the knees.

Why Linda McCartney is amazing:
  • Pursued a successful career as a photographer BY ACCIDENT, in her own right.
  • Had several affairs with famous rock stars when she was single not married, just to make that clear. (Like: Mick Jagger, Jim Morrison, and Jimi Hendrix (Although she says Jimi was just her friend))
  • Was already a muse at the age of 1. Yep, Paul McCartney was NOT the first musician to write a song about Linda, it was actually Jack Lawrence a famous musician of the 40’s. His song is called ‘Linda’.
  • Being a Beatles fan herself she often joked about “marrying a Beatle” when she had not yet met any of them….she ended up ACTUALLY marrying Beatle Paul McCartney.
  • Also, her favorite Beatle was John, not Paul.
  • Was an extraordinary mother to all of her children. She always put them first and were her main concern.
  • Even though she often got criticized for any little thing she did, she was not afraid to fight for animals’ rights.  She often said she preferred spending time with animals than with people. For years she defended animals and when she passed away she was given the title of “The animals’ guardian angel”. She saved thousands of animals with her campaigns and her vegetarian cookbooks, and frozen food line.
  • Redefined what “marriage” was back then in the 60’s and 70’s. Back then it was the normal thing for the wife to be a stay at home mom who cooked meals for her husband and the husband to work all day to pay the rent. But Linda and Paul’s marriage was quite the opposite. They were one of the first famous couple’s to redefine that word. Linda and Paul lived on the road (very often), BOTH working hard and helping each other. They took their children with them on tours. Really, both of them contributed the same amount to their marriage.
  • Although fans (of Paul’s and The Beatles) and critics hated Linda in the first years she was with Paul, and often criticized her voice and her skills in playing instruments she kept her head up and continued doing what she enjoyed without letting the reviews bother her. She really was doing the “Just because you’re not entirely good at something doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it, GO FOR IT! Let the haters hate” thing.
  • She also got criticized A LOT for not dressing fashionably and not doing her makeup. Linda was a very casual person. She never wore make up (very rarely anyway), and just threw on whatever felt comfortable, she could give a rats ass about being “in style”. BUT of course the world judged her on her looks. She was SO pressured into being what everyone wanted her to be yet she never gave in. She stayed herself completely and never changed who she really was just to please the public.
  • Oh, and she also often let her leg and armpit hair grow, basically, Linda was a very NATURAL human being. Which is bloody amazing, imo.
  • She is OFTEN described as a “very kind, and endearing person” by people who knew her personally. Which, isn’t surprising at all.
  • She helped Paul in his time of depression when the Beatles had broke up. Paul went into a very deep depression and often stayed in bed ALL day and let his beard grow and drank hard liquor since very early in the morning. Paul has said that he felt his world was crumbing down and he was going downhill but Linda helped him get out of that. She helped him get out of that depression and that is when Paul wrote the beautiful song called “Maybe I’m Amazed” for the Lovely Linda (:
  • She was also one of the reasons Paul stayed so humble, being a Beatle and all it wouldn’t be too difficult thinking you’re all that. Being a casual, simple, nature girl she showed Paul how to live a simple life (Mainly when they spent time in Scotland). You would think Paul would have a maid or something but they both did all the house work, they both fed themselves and took care of their own children, just like a normal family!
  • She was a warrior. She fought cancer for years and stayed so strong about it. It has been said by one of her close mates, Danny Fields, that she NEVER complained about her illness. Of course, she was suffering and also caught depression but she always tried to stay positive about it.
  • She was an extraordinary woman who was so very beautiful on the inside and the outside. The is no doubt why Paul loved and still loves her so much. ♥
  • THE END. (:

mild smut, angst, fluff

A/N:

I’m sorry this took so long to update, and I know I said it would be a lot sooner but I was a lot busier than I thought I would. Hope you enjoy!

The house was still, stifled by silence and Harry lay awake, far too submerged in his own thoughts to even consider the idea of sleep. He silently observed the shapes being carved by a mixture of moonlight and streetlight from the window to his left, dancing on the walls all around him. Clenching his eyes shut and resting his forearm over them, Harry could almost feel the fleeting moments shared between he and y/n, some over a decade in the past.

His fists balled and his jaw locked. The past.

“Harry!” He could feel the way she squealed his name, embedded deeb within him, haunting him to this day.

(A/N): I’m in dire need of Bucky fluff so

Bucky Barnes couldn’t believe it, he was officially married. After years, many, many years of waiting he finally got the happy ending he wanted; a family, a home, stability. Not only that but he got to experience it with the most beautiful human in the galaxy, (Y/N). Truthfully, had it been anyone else Bucky wouldn’t be we’re he was right now, holding his spouse’s hand as they chatted merrily with their table and graciously ate food. But (Y/N) had enraptured him the moment he set eyes on them, from those dazzling eyes to that shy smile and with their more than beautiful personality. He would have been crazy not to fall in love, he’d have been crazy not to get down on one knee and ask for their hand in marriage but he had and he could never, ever regret it-

“Buck,” (Y/N) smiles at him, nudging his side gently. That snapped Bucky out of his momentary reverie as he jolted forward in his seat, looking at (Y/N) earnestly.

“Yeah? Hmm?” (Y/N) smiles at him as they take his hand, pressing a gentle kiss to his knuckles.

"First dance, remember?“ Bucky looks at them, looks at their lips and their gorgeous smile, he looks at them as though he’s looking at them for the first time. He notices the way their eyes shine under the beautiful lights, or the way their teeth nearly glitter against their lips, or the way their nose scrunched up as they smiled beautifully, he notices the way their hair is styled, so beautiful and meticulous, and then he notices their hands, one of them with a plain silver band across it, showing the world that (Y/N) was Bucky’s just as much as Bucky was (Y/N)’s.

"Yeah,” Bucky breathes out softly, unable to tear his eyes away from (Y/N)’s gorgeous face. “Yeah our first dance,” (Y/N) smiles at him as they run their thumb along his knuckle, and even though Bucky was unable to feel it he could only guess how amazing it felt against the cold metal plates. A soft tune fills the air and that’s when it hits him, the song, the old lively tune, a song he once used to know all the words to. "Glenn miller?“ Bucky questions, his eyes glued to the blush that dusted (Y/N)’s cheeks.

"Yeah, Steve said you used to love him,” Bucky chuckles as he squeezes (Y/N)’s hand gently, pressing a kiss of his own to their knuckles

. “I still do sweetcheeks,” Bucky stands, bringing his beautiful spouse with him. “Live band and everything?”

"Recordings don’t do it justice,“ Bucky smiles as they make their way to the dance floor, the band all playing their tune and glancing up from their work to eye the newlyweds every now and then. With a gentle smile Bucky pulls (Y/N) close, his hands settled on their waist comfortably.

"I haven’t danced in years,” (Y/N) smiles at him as they snake their arms around his neck, running their fingers through the strands at the nape of his neck.

“Neither have I,” (Y/N) smiles as the two glide around almost effortlessly, as though they had already done this a million times.

“70 years (Y/N), how long has it been for you?” (Y/N) laughs as they rest their forehead against Bucky’s, their noses barely touching.

"Not that long old man,“ Bucky chuckles as he holds (Y/N) a little closer, wanting every part of their body to be touching his.

"Says the kid who married me,"

   "says the man who asked,”

“hmm, touché,” (Y/N) smirks as they close their eyes, swaying with Bucky smoothly across the floor, making their way about the dance floor slowly but surely.

“Isn’t this supposed to be all serious and sentimental?” (Y/N) asks after a bit of silence. Bucky laughs as he rubs his nose against (Y/N)’s causing the latter to giggle softly.

"This is perfectly sentimental thank you very much. Would you rather I stare at you intently and say nothing?“

"God no,” (Y/N) laughs, “that’d be creepy,"

"my point proved,” Bucky whispers as the song slowly draws to a quiet murmur, slowly but surely starting to come to and end. Bucky smiles gently as he closes the distance between (Y/N) and himself, sealing their lips together gently, much to the delight of their wedding guests. Everyone claps and cheers, making the two newlywed a giggle with delight. "See, perfectly sentimental,“ Bucky whispers as the two go back and take their seats, smiling at each other breathlessly, with eyes full Of such love and adoration. (Y/N) hums as they nod, their eyes practically glued to Bucky.

   "Yeah, perfectly sentimental,"

The rest of the wedding was spent drinking and eating and chatting amongst friends and family. At one point every single avenger had gotten up and danced to some god awful contemporary song ( (Y/N) included) and danced their merry little hearts out while Bucky sat back and watched his friends and his spouse dance together.

God- (Y/N) was so beautiful. It didn’t matter how many times he saw them, every time he laid eyes on them his heart swelled with so much joy and happiness. How could someone like (Y/N) have ever picked him? He was a mess, he had much more emotional baggage than was healthy, he was broken and damaged, for fucks sake sometimes he couldn’t even shower without proper help but (Y/N) came along and accepted him despite his flaws- in fact they embraced them, they made Bucky feel like a normal person for the first time in years. They knew all about his past and problems, they knew what he had done and yet here they were, dancing at their wedding.

“Hey Soldier,” (Y/N) smiles at him breathlessly, little beads of sweat decorating their forehead. “You gonna come dance with me or what?”

“Not like that I’m not,” Bucky snorts, folding his arms over his chest as he leans back into his chair, content to just look and stare at (Y/N).

“What’s wrong with my dancing?” (Y/N) asks as they give a little shimmy, making the supersoldier laugh loudly.

   “Exactly that,”

“Come on,” (Y/N) shimmied closer to him, smirking as he laughed some more. “I know you want to,”

   “I really don’t,”

“You really do,” (Y/N) shimmied some more, only a few inches away from Bucky.

“Oh my god, if you stop with that god awful shimmy I’ll come dance with you,” (Y/N) stopped immediately, smiling at Bucky happily. With a sigh of resignation Bucky clambered from his seat, gratefully taking (Y/N)’s hand as they guided him to the dance floor and that’s when (Y/N) began to dance again, at least ten times worse than before.

“No,” Bucky laughed, as (Y/N) danced horribly, one leg up here, an arm there, some shimmying there. “Oh my god it’s so bad,”

“Dance with me,” (Y/N) manages to state before their own smile overpowers them, making them halt in their dancing.

“I can’t possibly compare to whatever that was-”

“Come on- I’ll show you,” Bucky laughed as (Y/N) danced again, only much slower this time.

“Okay, okay, I think I got it,” Bucky began to follow along (Y/N)’s ‘dance’ moves, laughing so hard he could barely keep his balance but before he knew it (Y/N) had joined back in with him and they were dancing, if one could even call it that. Alongside the couple the dance floor was packed, each square inch covered in dancing bodies.

“God we look like idiots,” Bucky laughs as the song ends, leaving everyone to still and pant to regain their breath and energy.

“Yeah, but we’re each other’s idiots,” Bucky smiles at (Y/N) as he takes their hand, pressing a soft kiss to their knuckles.

   “Yeah we are,”

The rest of the night had gone by in a blur, there was food and drinks, there was some delicious desert, but most of all there had been (Y/N), Bucky’s sweet, beautiful (Y/N). Even if everything else that night had been a bit of a haze (Y/N) was always there, always so vibrant against the blurred memories. And now (Y/N) was beside Bucky, smiling at him as Tony’s limo drove them to some mysterious honeymoon get away. It was obvious in the way their eyes dropped that they were getting tired, or the way they started to slowly lean on Bucky for support but Bucky didn’t mind, having (Y/N) fall asleep on him wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.

“You can go to sleep,” Bucky whispers as he reaches over to tuck a strand of hair behind (Y/N)’s ear, smiling when they yawned just a bit.

   “What about-”

“What about nothing. You danced that cute little ass of yours off tonight, no wonder you’re so tired,” (Y/N) smiled sleepily as they leaned on Bucky, smacking their lips as they curl up against him.

“Wake me up when we get to the hotel?” Bucky hums as he presses a kiss to (Y/N)’s forehead.

   “Of course doll,”

Bucky was lying when he said he’d wake (Y/N) up, they looked far too peaceful like this, it’d be a shame to disrupt it. So instead of wake sleeping beauty Bucky managed to slide his arms around them as maneuver them out of the car, intact might he add. He even made it up 12 floors and managed to open the hotel room before (Y/N) finally jostled awake, groaning softly as Bucky set them down on the luxurious bed Tony had booked for them.

   “Buck?”

   “Yeah baby?”

   "What are you doing?"

"I’m gonna change really quick, that okay with you?”

“Can you help me too?” Bucky smiles at (Y/N)’s sleepy tone as he nods, giving their hand a gentle squeeze,

"of course doll,“ (Y/N) hums softly as they smile at Bucky, allowing themself to snuggle down into the sheets as Bucky trudged to the bathroom to change.

He’d worn a complex Black suit with so many layers and buttons that Bucky could barely figure out how to get it off much less put it on but with a bit of struggling Bucky managed to shrug the suit off and place it on the counter, leaving it for later. He would take care of it tomorrow but for now all he wanted to do was curl up with (Y/N) and sleep for 12 hours. So with sudden heavy limbs and a warm smile Bucky waddled back to the bedroom, to where (Y/N) Barnes lay.

”(Y/N),“ Bucky whispered as he gently shook (Y/N)’s shoulder. ”(Y/N), I gotta help you outta your clothes doll,“ (Y/N) grumbles softly as they shifted their position, slowly sitting up to allow Bucky to help them out of their complicated outfit. Bucky wiggled them out of their clothes, eyeing their body as he did. They were so beautiful- every part of them, from their collarbones, to their hips, down the faint stretchmarks that marked their thighs but Bucky loved it all, every single piece of them.

"You’re so beautiful,” Bucky whispered as he leaned forward, gently kissing along (Y/N)’s neck. It wasn’t full of hunger and lust like it usually was rather full of sheer love and adoration for the human before him. (Y/N) sighed softly as Bucky wiggled their clothes down their legs, leaving them at the foot of the bed.

"Shouldn’t we pick those up-“ (Y/N) began but Bucky cut them short when he dragged them down, pulling a blanket over them in the process.

"We can take care of that stuff later,” Bucky murmured as he kissed (Y/N)’s neck gently. There was once again no hunger or lust to it, not tonight, Tonight was different. Usually Bucky would be dying to bury himself deep within (Y/N), to suckle on that neck until it was bruised purple but tonight all he wanted to do was kiss (Y/N) and hold them, show them how much he loved them.

“I love you,” Bucky whispers as he kisses (Y/N)’s collarbones, only breaking long enough to murmur to them.

    “I love you too Buck,”

“Gonna buy you a nice house, something cute and small, I’ll fix up the lights, mow the lawn, you can buy a dog,”

“Mh,” (Y/N) hums, smiling sleepily as Bucky kissed his way along their body. “Let me guess, you’ll fix the plumbing too?"

"I would, I’d fix up the flooring and the walls, we could paint together,”

“We both know nothing would get done if we tried to paint together,"

"We could learn how to bake,"

"Bucky Barnes, I’d like to see you try to cook ramen-"

"We could go to bookstores and parks, we could walk our 3 dogs and-”

“And then ever night we’d fall into bed together, hold each other all night long and talk about our future?” Bucky smiles as he looks at (Y/N), sweet, beautiful, sleepy (Y/N). He’d never been more in love than he was right now, tangled up with the person he wanted to spend the rest of his life with, talking about the life he had always wanted. With soft lips Bucky kisses them, conveying his every emotion in one gesture.

    “Damn straight,”

Weirdly specific song genres often played at retail stores:

  • Pop songs featured in rom-coms from the 1990′s OR featured in animated movies from the 2000′s (do not mix or match)
  • Songs about how work sucks so you might as well call in sick and go do something fun. (Usually a country song.)
  • Bolly-inspired electro-jazz
  • Pop songs often misinterpreted as love songs that are in reality about the freedom that comes with breaking up with someone.
  • This song is literally about death.
  • Protest songs from the 70′s that are clearly protest songs, but hey whatever they’re catchy.
  • Pop songs from the 60′s that were pretty progressive for their time but really only in that context
  • Pop songs from the 2010′s that are pretty progressive for the 1960′s.
  • Covers of Top 40′s songs that you don’t realize are covers because they’re doing their best to make it sound exactly like the original but they just missed the mark on that one note and now you can’t unhear all the other flaws in the song.
  • Obscure One-Hit-Wonders that you’ve only ever heard in retail stores.
  • An awkward stretch of silence, followed by a small child chanting in the back of the store.
  • Exactly one Michael Buble song that isn’t from the Christmas album.
  • The entire Michael Buble Christmas album
  • Love Shack.
HANGING BY A MOMENT

before: alright, so please keep in mind that this is the first oneshot I have ever written, therefore please don’t be too harsh on me. I hope I get better in time. I received two Jimin requests and decided to combine them both into one. any who, I hope this is somewhat tolerable! I apologize in advance.

Jimin’s not sure when it began.

As he watches you dance with a very inebriated yet still somehow skillful Hoseok, who insists on being a little too touchy with you (at least in Jimin’s opinion) it’s all that seems to cross his mind.

That, and the thought of how badly he wants to remove Hoseok from the current situation and instead replace the older with himself.

You both are dancing to the slower version of one of your favorite songs, one that’s permanently etched in Jimin’s mind because of your refusal to listen to anything else but the damn song the entire summer break of last year.

Lana Del Rey - Grazia (France) - July 2017

A rough translation of the Grazia interview, which was originally translated in French so a few things might have been lost in the process.

Interviewer: When did you start working on this new album [Lust For Life]?

Lana Del Rey: The day I finished the last one, Honeymoon. It must have been in August, two years ago. I was happy I had recorded an album which has more rock vibes, Ultraviolence, and then one with more blues, one which is sadder, Honeymoon. I felt like I needed to go back to the 60’s and the 70’s, with more pop inclinations. I thought about the Shangri-Las, their harmonies, their playful spirit. Then, after achieving the three quarters of the record, I also felt like doing something more folk, deeper in my heart. I had Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark in mind. Eventually, I listened to a lot of the Beatles and that’s why I asked Sean Lennon (Yoko and John Lennon’s only son) to sing with me. This is why this album, unlike the others, had more shifts and switches.

Int: You change perspective, points of view?

LDR: Exactly. I grow up with my records, I feel a shift inside and I try to do a chronicle of it. Earlier today, I was listening to one of my tracks, Beautiful People, and words like “blood” or “planet” struck me: I had never used them before. I feel like I’m seeing things with more distance, without completely detaching myself from it. I’m happy about that.

Int: You talk about Joni Mitchell. What do you borrow from her?

LDR: Her way of telling stories. How she expresses her inwardness and the dialogues she has with herself. I like the fact that she was a painter but she couldn’t help but become a musician. And then, I love the region of Laurel Canyon. With my friends, Jonathan Wilson and Father John Misty, we established a true musical community, sort of like the one Joni and her friends had.

Int: Honeymoon was a bit cathartic. It ended with a cover of Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood, like the full stop of something. Was there a new beginning after it?

LDR: I liked the idea of doing a Nina Simone cover and more specifically this song and its message; I often hoped not to be misunderstood, while not knowing what to do to avoid it. This last year, I realized that people judge me for the wrong reasons. They prejudge me a lot. It took me seven years to learn how to deal with it. There were frustrating moments, obviously, especially after the first album. Afterwards, it didn’t really matter anymore.

Int: Do you feel lonely? Have you ever felt the need to be guided?

LDR: I have, I didn’t know what it was like to be guided. But during the past two years in LA, I met a lot of good musicians, I felt a sort of familiarity (camaraderie) with them. Suddenly, I had more people around me, people to call, to tell about what I had just done and ask them how their week went as well. I don’t put things in front of the mirror anymore. Half of the songs have something light in them, they’re less reflective and less about the way I see myself. I didn’t really address a particular audience in the previous records. But this year, I wanted to change my point of view, to speak to others, to a younger generation. That’s what must happen when you grow older…

Int: Do you observe the others more?

LDR: I’m more settled in reality. I go out, I blend more with the others. After having been too intellectual, too existentialist… Although, compared to my friends, I’m the most quiet. I don’t have to make myself heard excessively anymore.

Int: Tomorrow Never Came recalls the Beatles. We hear you sing with Sean Lennon. How did you get the idea?

LDR: I sang the chorus to my producer and he added a few chords. I thought about T. Rex, and I was looking for something more relaxed, more live. It led me to a melody resembling the Beatles. I asked someone to get me Sean Lennon’s number; I wanted to have his voice with mine. We facetimed, and it worked right away between us. He was very encouraging.

Int: The song seems to reflect on a rough time, which is behind you now though…

LDR: Yes, absolutely. Without being able to say what it is, though. That’s why I didn’t want to sing it alone. Aesthetically, I wanted this title to have a 60’s sound, completely, without any modern mediation. It really mattered to me because it fully fit in with me, and I wanted to express it that way, directly.

Int: One track, God Bless America, is about the USA. It is political and in relation to the election of Donald Trump. How do this era and politics influence you?

LDR: The song is about America and the women in it. In the studio, where I go every day, I have conversations about the country with my producer and my sound engineers… And it all just sort of came out. I didn’t feel like I had to say something but it would have been weird if I hadn’t. That was my feeling. It was also about me going out more, listening and talking about it. One thing that always came up with my friends was whether or not it was time to move to Paris! It was our favorite brunch conversation after the election. I especially felt the tremor, the fact that American women were mobilizing against everything that was said.

Int: We can see you’re freer in this album, not quite the tormented lover anymore.

LDR: In the previous albums, I felt split into two parts, torn. Then, I took position, chose easier ways, not to be confronted to difficult experiences anymore. I decided to have more friends, more fun.

Int: What sparked that decision?

LDR: All my previous bad experiences came back to me all of a sudden. And I had enough. I decided to change. And there wasn’t a thing this year I wasn’t certain about. It’s new for me. Something in my personal life changed and it led to a musical shift. And it was for the best, in the right artistic direction. To be in a relationship, it’s very energizing at first. But when the end comes near, only the negative energy remains… And I don’t want to go through that again. In this particular case, if I had known before that it would be this way, I would have run right away. I lived the same thing too many times, even with friends and professional relationships: from now on, I’ll never let anyone surreptitiously take control of who I am anymore. I’ll run at the first sign a relationship can become this bad. That said, sometimes, you have to go and reach the end of things, you have to be able to finish a record, a love affair…

Int: Did you ever have to fight for your integrity?

LDR: To take the right decisions, yes, but never to be the person I am. That was established from the start. When I wrote Video Games, I had to be strong and assured, I sang very directly. Now, I feel different. Back then, that’s what made me happy because that’s all I knew. But it wasn’t enough.

Int: Do you still have some tutelary figures?

LDR: I was lucky to read Bob Dylan, to understand his process and his way of doing things. I don’t know why I’m so obsessed with him… He’s my hero. And I want to clarify, I am in no way putting myself at his level. He’s all the way up there for me. Like Kurt Cobain, despite his sad passing: his way of capturing melodies which seem to come out of the air around you… It’s the ultimate cool.

Tom’s washing machine had broke.

Sure he could buy a new one, or go wash at his parent’s- but he didn’t. Persistent as he is, he wanted to fix his own washer.

The word persistent can also be changed out by overconfident.

The laundromat “Larry’s Laundry Line” was only a block away. An old building with an elderly man sleeping in the corner as two older women talking as they fold their nightgowns, three students younger than him and one woman who caught his eye in particular. You.

anonymous asked:

Good morning. I noticed that Harry's album was recorded with split audio - different audio in the left and right. Sorry, I don't know the technical term for it. I know this was very common in the 60s & 70s, so not surprising he would use the technique, but it it used commonly now it is this unique for the time? Thank you for your insight. 💖

Hi!

I haven’t had the chance to listen carefully with headphones, so I can’t tell you what I hear on specific songs, but here’s a brief answer, and I will come back again once I’ve heard the songs on headphones.

So, in audiophile terms (at least from my limited knowledge), the reason for splitting the sound between right and left is to image the sound.

High fidelity equipment, with high fidelity audio playback equipment, needs to have the proper room diffusing/ insulation and the proper speaker placements. When one plays the music recorded in a live venue, and with split audio, one can hear the music as if it’s being played in a three-dimensional space. The physics take a bit of time to explain, but it has to do with the pure diffusion of sound from dipole speakers and the way sound waves propagate and cancel each other out in an insulated space. When you go to concert halls and see baffles hung from the ceiling or walls, they are diffusing the sound.

You can actually hear where each musician is standing in the room, like ghost images. Harry in front, guitarist to the right, drummer in back and so forth.

It’s actually eerie to hear music played back like that– like you are in the room with the musicians. It’s a sound hologram– almost as if you can touch them.

Pop is almost NEVER recorded like this. First, the voices are often recorded on a separate track, tuned and then mixed back with the instrumentals. Second, pop uses a lot of electronic effects that are not recorded acoustically but are produced digitally. EDM is almost all digital sound effects. Digitally recorded sound are not placeable, because it isn’t mic’d and doesn’t obey the physics of sound. Listen to any 1980’s Madonna recording and you’ll hear how flat it is.

Jazz is almost always recorded like this. Jazz is recorded as an acoustic ensemble with usually two or three microphones, and imaging can be amazing.

Imaging is best with music that uses little electronic processing– songs with acoustic guitars will image better than songs with electric guitars, for instance.

To get the best sound, you want the best recording medium.

Audiophiles argue, but it’s now agreed that SACDs (high memory capacity CDs) have the same ability to capture high fidelity sound as vinyl. But for decades, vinyl was the medium of choice because most CDs compressed sound (to fit data onto discs). There’s also something about vinyl sound that is warmer and rounder than digital sound, although I’ve done a few blinded hearing tests with high fidelity equipment that showed no difference to me.

If you have the luxury of a high fidelity system, play your vinyl record, and then find the sweet spot to sit and listen (usually in a room, there is only one sweet spot). Again, this is my limited experience.

One way you can do this is to bring your CD or vinyl to a store that sells hi fi equipment– find a store in a big city that has an insulated auditioning room with speakers that cost $10,000 per pair and up. That’s the kind of snobby, esoteric store you want. They will have a system that costs over $50k, and then you can ask to pop in your Pink Album (these stores sell $3k CD players and turntables with cartridges that cost more than $3k, so your CD or vinyl will be well cared for). These rooms sound as if you’re dead, because you literally cannot hear any echoes. The sales people are usually pretty nice. Ask to sit or stand in the sweet spot; they’ll know what you’re talking about. Then enjoy to your heart’s content. You might have the perfect listening experience, Harry and his band playing for you in a private performance, close enough to touch.

Addendum: I will add if I hear specific details about the songs. A friend told me that “From the Dining Table” has Harry singing from two different locations, right and left. I’ll have to listen for the artistic reason for this choice. Thanks.
