Last year’s Tony’s were great because while there was still some competition, we all knew Hamilton was going to win a majority of the categories, regardless what we personally thought of the show. This year - too much talent. Too much competition. I’m attached to literally every cast for different reasons and I want them all to win for different reasons. I’m glad I’m not making the decisions, Good luck to the American Theatre Wing for making these hard decisions - I’m glad I’m not in your shoes.

On the other hand, I’m most likely going to be happy however the chips will fall when the noms are released because I’ll be routing for every cast member in every show, most likely, and several of them are bound to be nominated.

Our Secret

APRIL 29, 2017

The WGA’s master contract with Hollywood’s major studios is set to expire at midnight on Monday. If no new agreement is in place, striking writers could be marching with picket signs the next morning — instead of writing TV shows.

A writers strike would not mean that all television would suddenly be thrust into reruns. But some effects would be immediate, and a lengthy walkout could have a huge impact across the dial.

Late-night, where writers’ rooms are open year-round, would be the first television sector affected. “The Tonight Show,” “The Late Show,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “Conan,” and “The Daily Show” would go dark immediately — though they might not stay dark for long. David Letterman, whose Worldwide Pants production company owned “Late Show” and “Late Late Show” a decade ago — cut a separate deal with the WGA that allowed him and Craig Ferguson to return to the air during the 2007-08 strike with their writing staffs intact. But that’s not an option this time around as CBS has owned its late-night franchises since’s Letterman’s departure in 2015.

Letterman’s return to the airwaves on Jan. 2, 2008, forced competitors at NBC, ABC, and Comedy Central to follow suit, only without writers. Jay Leno, Conan O’Brien, Jimmy Kimmel, and Jon Stewart were forced to ad-lib their way through their shows. Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert, James Corden, and, once again, Kimmel would face the same pressure to go back on the air amid an extended work stoppage — a challenging decision since all four hosts are also WGA members. “Saturday Night Live,” however, would be unlikely to air without writers on board. The NBC sketch comedy series would see its 42nd season come to a halt. “SNL” is scheduled to deliver three more originals this season, starting May 6 with Chris Pine as host.

There are roughly half the number of daytime dramas on broadcast now as there were at the start of the 2007-08 strike. Another work stoppage would send the surviving soaps quickly off air, and likely be the death knell for some, if not all of them. Daytime soaps are expensive endeavors in perpetual production. Once those productions are stopped, and replaced with less expensive nonfiction programming, not restarting them becomes an easy choice to make. Daytime syndicated programming ranging from Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show to “Jeopardy” would also be affected, although those shows tend to bank episodes well in advance.

Award Shows
The 2007-08 strike turned the Golden Globes into a press conference with no stars in attendance. It also threatened, but ultimately left unscathed, the Academy Awards. The next major awards show this year is the Tony Awards, scheduled for June 7, set to be hosted by Kevin Spacey and air on CBS. But the newly rechristened MTV Movie and TV Awards, scheduled for May 7, would be the first live awards show to be impacted by a strike. Even if much of the writing for the show is already completed, stars would be unlikely to attend the show, as they would have to cross picket lines to do so.

Summer TV
In drama and comedy, cable and streaming shows whose writers rooms are up and running as well broadcast summer series will be affected by a strike that lasts more than a week or two. Writers rooms would be shut down and production halted shortly after completed scripts run out. Among the series currently in or heading into production that could be impacted are AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” FX’s “American Horror Story” and “You’re the Worst,” and broadcast dramas such as CBS’ new “Salvation.”

Fall TV
A strike that lasts only a few weeks or a month will have little effect on the traditional September to May broadcast season — unlike 2007, when the Nov. 5 start date of the strike shuttered writers rooms on shows that premiered in fall, with some shows never returning. But if a work stoppage extends into July or August, it will start to infringe on the seven to nine weeks of writer prep that broadcast series need before heading into production. That could mean orders for new and returning shows would end up shortened, and fall premiere dates could be pushed into later in the year.

Good short synopsis of what happens if the writers strike from Variety.

With the lack of any real evidence to back up the rumors, I have to ask. What do you think was the whole deal with GA's over enthusiastic support of the crown? Showing up at the premieres, the awards, PM's dinner. It makes no sense other than being there for him in a personal way, but everything, especially the fact that you said the partner and not single comments point to DD, points to there being nothing between her and PM. I'll never understand Nov 2016 to March 2017.

I think we will understand later. It makes no sense to me that it all happened for personal reasons, I think it was all professional, and I’m just really happy and grateful we can start talking about it with the past tense.

saying “I ship [popular pairing] but don’t mind if you ship [hated pairing], let’s all just be nice to each other!!” is just another way of making yourself feel better in the midst of all this fandom drama without actually doing jack shit to help the shippers that are being attacked

wanna know why? we don’t have the luxury of saying “discourse stresses me out, that’s why I don’t participate in it” because we have to deal with hate & threats on a daily basis

the fact that you want an award for not spamming others, for not spreading negativity, for being a decent person - it just shows that you’re very well aware of how terrifying your side of the fandom can be. you refuse to speak up about it because you don’t have to, it doesn’t affect you directly, but you know very damn well how scared some of us are and tbh that’s pretty fucked up

Ok Ken (and David). As much as I hate to make you guys famous or even respond to you directly. We all die one day and you're old so fuck it. Yea yea my 2013 performance at the Grammys was absolute shit. Technical difficulties, blah blah. Thanks for the reminder. Very much appreciated. Fuck that performance though. You think that's why I kept my work out of the Grammy process this year? Don't you think I would've wanted to play the show to 'redeem' myself if I felt that way? In reality, I actually wanted to participate in honoring Prince on the show but then I figured my best tribute to that man's legacy would be to continue to be myself out here and to be successful. Winning a TV award doesn't christen me successful. It took me some time to learn that. I bought all my masters back last year in the prime of my career, that's successful. Blonde sold a million plus without a label, that's successful. I am young, black, gifted and independent.. that's my tribute. I've actually been tuning into CBS around this time of year for a while to see who gets the top honor and you know what's really not 'great TV' guys? 1989 getting album of the year over To Pimp A Butterfly. Hands down one of the most 'faulty' TV moments I've seen. Believe the people. Believe the ones who'd rather watch select performances from your program on YouTube the day after because your show puts them to sleep. Use the old gramophone to actually listen bro, I'm one of the best alive. And if you're up for a discussion about the cultural bias and general nerve damage the show you produce suffers from then I'm all for it. Have a good night.

anonymous asked:

Why are you so anti La La Land?

I’m not anti-La La Land at all. I have nothing against it, it’s a cute movie and all. I just feel like movies like Moonlight are more deserving of all of the awards that La La Land has been sweeping up this awards season.

The reason why I want Moonlight to win so bad is because of its story. To have a movie about an African-American boy struggling with his sexuality while growing up is something I thought would never happen. It’s touching and relatable because it’s something that I went through growing up and to see someone that looks like me going through what I went through during my whole childhood really strikes a chord with me. Growing up African-American and gay is difficult because the stigma of showing yourself as weak or feminine is something still looked down upon in the African-American community if you’re a boy. You have to act as masculine as you can to prove yourselves to others or else you would get teased or picked on. Barry Jenkins telling of Chiron’s story through Moonlight paints a story of millions of African American males childhoods. Not only African American males but also other males of color as well.

When you compare that to a musical about a white woman wanting to be an actress and a white man wanting to save jazz, a genre deeply rooted in African-American culture and from slavery…she just doesn’t have the range compared to Moonlight, I’m sorry.

But none of this really matters anyway because we all know that La La Land is going to sweep at the Oscars just like it did with all the other major award shows this season so

  • What she says: I'm fine

Executive decision: create an awards show exclusively catered to fantasy and sci-fi movies

all the films that don’t ever receive an ounce of respect at awards shows because they aren’t taken seriously as a genre finally get the recognition they deserve

the Harry Potter movies are praised for their visionary production designs and a music score more iconic than most movie soundtracks released in the past two decades

Force Awakens and Rogue One aren’t swept under the rug because they’re only seen as nostalgic entertainment and instead are recognized for their incredible acting and special effects

Pacific Rim is awarded the highest honor for editing and production work and CGi design because holy shit did you even see that movie?

The makeup and styling team for the Star Trek movies finally get their moment to shine after spending years designing and building intricate prosthetics and makeup looks in order to bring a diverse galaxy to life

John Boyega and John Cho host the night and everyone has a great time and I don’t end the night fuming over movies robbed of the love they deserve

What wakes me up in the morning:

Is seeing Jimin beat his pre-debut demons and insecurities and grow to become one of Korea’s most respected stage performers that many young idols even look up to.

Is seeing Namjoon go from not loving himself to loving all his faults and transcending that love through all genders, race, colour and language.

Is seeing Jungkook go from shy, reserved and quiet to making friends, learning English to speak with I-fans and getting to perform with his idols.

Is seeing Yoongi fight his battles with mental health issues and using his struggles to express some of the most inspiring and influential songs in kpop history.

Is seeing Seokjin underestimate us all by singing, dancing, playing instruments, going to events and awards shows all while graduating university, proving he is more than just looks but a role model

Is seeing Taehyung be ridiculed, hated and bashed for being different to being the reason of joy, happiness and laughter for all those who have experienced losses in their life

Is seeing Hoseok who despite being bashed for his looks and having low-self confidence continually looks to make others happy, smile and laugh. Calling himself Hope because he wants be to the light in everyone’s life.

KPOP boy groups in 2020

bts: still so much teen angst. rapmonster ran out of novels to base the mv’s on, therefore their newest concept contains spongebob references., hoseoks face is now used as the sun on korean weather forecasts, jungkook has accidentally one a gold medal at the olympic games. twice.

ikon: haven’t had a comeback in years. YG claims they’re still working on it, but he actually put them somewhere in his dungeon, he can’t just remember WHERE

exo: all busy with their solo activities, the only thing they released this year is a compilation of baekhyun screaming while playing video games. still win ‘album of the year’

big bang: the korean anthem is now fantastic baby, the flag the poster for their next comeback. this is what happens when you let G-Dragon join the military

monsta x: still haven’t won on a music show, still release awesome music, but hey, they crafted their own awards now and are still doing their thing, so it’s okay

Things I’m Sure Of:

  • One Direction was supposed to attend and they didn’t.
  • Liam couldn’t have been at the award show longer than 10 minutes. He went for the sole purpose of picking up the award and left immediately after.
  • Something changed tonight.

Now, we’ve been dragging Jeff non stop for being a bad manager for months, but part of me has always reserved the thought that /maybe/ he was restricted in what he could or couldn’t do. Just go with me. When Harry and the Azoff’s first started being seen together, everyone was all like, “omg 1D is firing shots at their team” but as things progressed, that mentality sort of faded away. I’ve still kept it in the back of my mind, though. Harry is the face of One Direction; I don’t think yachtgate was only for Harry’s career; I think it was for the band’s too. Just.. maybe there was a hold on things – on what Jeff could/couldn’t do – and maybe that hold is just starting to break. I’m not saying it’s happening all at once but… And all the family chiming in at the same time?? That’s not normal. At 8:30 it all just started happening; Harry’s family, Louis, Liam’s sister I think I saw? Plus the people at full stop?? Coincidences don’t exist with that band, it means something.

Simon was not expecting Liam to show up. Straight up. He said “I’m milking this,” with his smug, ugly face because he had every intention of giving a speech talking about how he created them and blahblahblah. Then low and behold, Liam Payne looking like he just came in from off the street, snatched that sucker out of his hand, and peaced out again. Liam doesn’t do that. Literally say what you want but Liam is always the same; diplomatic, the Serious Face of 1D. Not tonight. He came in, he handled it, barely even touched Simon, made it SO clear there was tension between them, and left. Without thanking anyone. The whole thing was stilted and awkward and RIFE with tension; anyone should have seen it.

And then there’s Annas. Annas who handles all of Louis’s public (stunt) outings, tweeting about the Afterparty and for what? Louis is home in Doncaster. And then there’s Louis. Papped in London TODAY and then off to Doncaster? Made SURE to mention he was in Doncaster? Okay.

My boys pulled a fast one and March is going to be insane. I feel it in my gut. Something broke. Or maybe something cracked. Maybe things won’t happen all at once but this was a power play I can feel it.

Why people will be upset with the 2017 Tony Awards & Nominations

The 2016-2017 Broadway season has been unusually crowded with new musical productions. It’s like producers were waiting until the season after Hamilton in hopes of being up for some Tonys, knowing Hamilton would sweep. But by doing this, they failed to recognise many other shows were doing the same. Of course, some shows weren’t even ready last year, but let’s look at this objectively.

Shows that have the potential to be nominated for Best Musical:

  • A Bronx Tale
  • Amélie
  • Anastasia
  • Bandstand
  • Charlie & the Chocolate Factory
  • Come From Away
  • Dear Evan Hansen
  • Groundhog Day
  • Natashia, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812
  • In Transit
  • War Paint

Obviously not all of these shows will get nominated, only 4-5 will. Which is a travesty, as some shows that will miss out probably would be nominated in any other season. As for a winner, I’ll be surprised if Dear Evan Hansen doesn’t win. Although I will be RAGED if Amélie and Anastasia aren’t at least nominated.

Best Revival is unusually crowded too, with shows that might be nominated include:

  • Cats
  • Falsettos
  • Miss Saigon
  • Hello Dolly
  • Sunset Boulevard
  • Sunday in the Park with George - although I think I read somewhere that it will not be eligible/they pulled themselves out or something.

Miss Saigon is most likely to take the win for this one. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. I could be wrong

This is where it get’s really frustrating, because some amazing actresses and actors will not be nominated for Leading Role in a Musical, even though they carry the entire show on their backs. (I’m not going to list Supporting Roles, but I’m sure you can imagine the snubs)

Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical potential nominees:

  • Phillipa Soo
  • Christy Altomare
  • Mamie Parris
  • Jen Colella
  • Ariana DeBose
  • Eva Noblezada
  • Denée Benton
  • Patti LuPone
  • Christine Ebersole
  • Barrett Doss
  • Laura Osnes
  • Bette Midler
  • Stephanie J Block
  • Glenn Close
  • (Not sure which/if any of the Dear Evan Hansen girl will be up for this. Maybe Rachael Bay Jones or Laura Dreyfuss)

Actor in a Leading Roll in a Musical potential nominees:

  • Andy Karl
  • Derek Klena
  • Josh Groban
  • Ben Platt
  • Alistair Brammer
  • Nick Cordero
  • Adam Chandler-Berat
  • Christian Borle
  • Christian Borle (yes he’s up for 2 leading roles)
  • Andrew Rannells
  • Brandon Uranowitz
  • Corey Cott
  • James Snyder

I mean, it’s just INSANE how many snubs there will be this year for deserving actresses and actors. I just wanted to prepare everyone that not all of your favorites will be nominated this year. It’s unfortunate, but it’s the way it is. Show the actors your love and support on their social medias to let them know their work matters to you. And let’s be grateful for all of the new shows this year. Look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now.

I really hope Beyonce never performs at the Grammys again, why should she keep helping this flop awards show with their ratings when all they do is disrespect her.

Creator of #OscarsSoWhite isn’t taking credit for this year’s historic wins

  • For an awards ceremony that’s been rightfully derided in recent years for refusing to acknowledge the work of artists of color, Sunday night’s show was an important step in the right direction.
  • But April Reign, the woman who coined the phrase #OscarsSoWhite, the hashtag that encapsulated that criticism, isn’t taking all the credit.
  • She’s underscoring an important point. #OscarsSoWhite highlighted an enduring problem in Hollywood, namely that filmmakers and actors of color weren’t recognized for their achievements by the industry at large.
  • That fed into a lack of representation that has real consequences, ranging from young kids’ self-esteem to policy making
  • But at its very core, the goal of diversifying representation in Hollywood is to allow the work of artists of color to be judged on the same platform as white people’s art.
  • In the case of Moonlight’s wins, it shows that the stories of black boys are important and worthy of being told. And in this political climate, that’s more important than ever. Read more (2/27/17 9:13 AM)

ARMY! Thank you so much. This is an award that we have been waiting for a long time and have been wanting to receive ever since. Receiving such an important award for the 4th quarter on such a good day like today, I want to say thank you and I love you the most to ARMYs. We had a concert not long ago. Every time we have a concert, we always spend 20-30 minutes before performing to meditate and talk among our members. Thereโ€™s something we talked about during that time. We have entered our 5th year and received many invitations from year-end award ceremonies, but we are not allowed to feel that of course we will be invited to year-end award shows, of course many people will come to our concerts, of course many people will listen to our albums. Actually we always think itโ€™s a miracle being invited to such honorable award ceremonies and having someone come to our concerts, buy and listen to our albums. Thank you a lot. And Iโ€™d like to, I have to say thank you for all the ARMYs all over the world. We have been waiting for this for a very long time and today we have a good news about the Billboard chart. Thanh you very much. And Iโ€™d like to say just remember that we never walk alone. Letโ€™s walk together forever and ever. Thank you very much.

Sincerely thank you to everyone for giving us this big award. Thereโ€™s something we want to say as we stand in a great place like this. We think itโ€™s thanks to many peopleโ€™s effort that we can be in front of you guys looking good like this. I want to say thank you to our Bighit family who help us, our hair & makeup stylists and manager hyungs. Thank you very much and our ARMYs, you would know it even if we donโ€™t say but we are always grateful and love you a lot.

And our parents who gave birth to us, Bang Shihyuk PD-nim, Vice President Choi Yoojung, Director Shinkyu, Director Yoon Seokjoon, we love you a lot, thank you for raising BTS. And of course our ARMYs, thank you and I love you.
