On writing
  • Me: Oh I know I'll just write a thing for this trashy pairing haha how fun I'll just make it a straightforward one-shot shippy thing that I don't need to take seriously.
  • Me: *Writes several thousand words of set-up* okay I guess that's fine...
  • Me: *Plans layers of complicated emotional subtext* okay I guess we can have some of that *Writes several more thousand words before getting past the first real shipping scene* uhhhh okay so guess it'll be chaptered...
  • Me: *Plans entire rest of story and realises it's already out of control* goddamit me why are you like this.

Lol so the famous jade doesn't have a comeback for once. I can't blame you. Supergirl writers don't have anything to do with the lack of lesbian kissing the actors do.

1) I’m hardly famous

2) you’re nothing more than mildly annoying and i try not to engage with those like you because you tend to get embarassed quite easily and resort to personal attacks

3) floriana’s previous work proves quite obviously that she has no qualms doing fairly intense kiss scenes with women

4) chyler’s expressed nothing but positivity when it comes to kissing and even “making out with” (her words, not mine) women

5) they’ve literally filmed longer kisses that have been cut in favor of shorter ones, like the one in 2x17, which fans were able to see because they filmed on location

6) you’re right (words you probably don’t hear often, congratulations) about it not coming down to the writers room. it’s something the network decides during post production. as is the case with 2x17, they get to decide which takes are used, it’s why actors usually have to film multiple versions of the same scene, such as filming kisses of varying lengths.

7) blaming the actresses doesn’t account for the drastic change between the overall length of kisses between 2A and 2B. it’s far more likely that the network received a lot of complaints about the nature of their kisses in 2A despite them still being super pg, and as such have responded by censoring them in the back half of the season. hardly any of us are expecting clothes shedding or anything like that, though considering how graphic most of the lyra/winn or even m*n el/kara kisses are, i think we’re entitled to similar. we just want our love to be portrayed as equal to the show’s m/f pairings.

;) Really want to hear your thinking about the way Viktor hold Yurio's chin. I have read a lot, like Viktor look really angry. Even saw the word: "threats". Yurio be threatened. Just can't agree that! Yurio still is a child! He is a friend, old friend of Viktor. I don't care how Yuuri is important, or meaningful with Viktor. I love, and happy for them. But a man threatened a child? I can't agree that action! No way Viktor did that! Never! So, you think what is creators trying to express in here?

Tama-chan, thank you for the ASK!

I’m on board with you concerning Yurio and Viktor’s scene by the beach.

Viktor has been portrayed as someone who’s had a good handle on his frustration. He smiles a lot to keep cool, but you can sort of feel some anger in him.

Like when Yuuri oversleeps and is late for practice.

Or when Yuuri spent a lot of time avoiding Viktor.

And even here when his rink-mates tell him to split with Yuuri.

I sort of sensed an anger in Viktor, the way his eyes were hidden, his smile frozen, and his arms were crossed stiffly. I sort of got the impression he was keeping calm and collected when he was actually frustrated by their comments.

But in the scene with Yurio, Viktor’s face is more honest.

When Yurio takes a verbal hit at both Viktor and Yuuri, Viktor just teases him.

His expression is sly and maybe a little peeved, but more upfront. And he sees right through Yurio. Right to the truth of his feelings. Because Yurio does look up to Viktor, and really the heart of the matter is that he did want to compete against him.

But when Yurio denies looking up to Viktor and telling to ‘just go way already, geezer’, that’s when Viktor takes action and holds Yurio in place.

There’s a ‘watch your tone, young man’ quality to the face grab. Yurio’s cheeks are puffed out childishly, truly showing his youth here.

What’s great about Viktor’s expression is that he’s not smiling. Whereas he’d normally hide his frustration with a smiling facade, he gives Yurio an honest frown.

He lets Yurio say what he wants to say, no interruptions, just lets the boy get it out of his system, all the while his face is serious, but I don’t think threatening at all.

If anything, it’s a bit like ‘you silly thing, you say these things about Yuuri when I know how you truly feel’.

And sure, perhaps the initial grab had an element of ‘you brat grr’ to it, but I feel like people have been misreading the shivering in Viktor’s hand.

Let is be reaffirmed that Yurio is FEISTY! Someone grabs his face, is he gonna just take it? Well, it’s Viktor, so he does to a certain extent, but as he tries to bite Viktor with his words, he’s also fighting the grip.

In this gif, originally posted by @tendousatoris, you can see a close up of both their faces during the hold.

It’s clear that Yurio’s entire face is moving. Look at his eyes, they’re shivering wildly with emotion. He’s fighting back with all he’s got (which works well with his actual words). Meanwhile, Viktor’s face is calm and composed. His fingers are the only things that move and that’s due to Yurio’s force.

And then once he’s said his piece, Yurio’s had enough and shakes Viktor off. Viktor doesn’t hold him tighter, or tell him off, or anything like that. All he does is admire Yurio’s fighting spirit, and acknowledge that if he hadn’t left to train Yuuri, neither he nor Yurio would have been as committed to fight.

And Yurio doesn’t huff away like that’s it, he pauses to make a conciliatory comment about how he’s reminded of Hasetsu. He’s a total tsundere (this is the boy who literally kicked Yuuri and told him off, before comforting him and offering him a birthday treat)

So, what I think the creators are trying to express here, is our Russian boys’ fighting spirit, and also their friendship.

I feel like Yurio’s development is almost as tied to Viktor as Yuuri’s. It’s Yuri!!!On Ice for a reason. They’re the three main characters for a reason!

Yurio definitely looked up to Viktor. This shot of him shaking hands with and accepting Viktor’s help when he’s old enough literally shows it. He is looking up at/to Viktor (as you know I do like to pay attention to the character positioning because YOI pays attention!). And please note the cute expression on his face, that little touch of a blush.

But Viktor is way above him.

In Ice Castle, I noticed something really cool during Viktor’s scenes with Yurio.

Yurio is still below Viktor here, but on top of that, he is in the darkness while Viktor is in the light! This is really consistent with them at Ice Castle. Viktor seems to always be standing in the brightness while Yurio's in the dark. Viktor’s got a grasp on Agape, while Yurio struggles.

But during their scene at the beach, Yurio is so much closer to Viktor in height. He still looks up to Viktor but he’s caught up far more than before. On top of that Yurio is directly in the sunlight, while it’s Viktor’s face that’s taking a bit of the shade. Yurio is finding the spotlight.

Yurio is growing, he’s almost reached his agape. And it’s actually thanks to Viktor for giving something to chase after.

So yeah, this scene showed me how honest Viktor could be with Yurio. How he could see right through the boy and understand what he really means. And it showed how Yurio himself has grown, but is still a young boy that has chubby cheeks and gets angry and bratty.

I watched this scene as one of friendship, not a threat!

I fully expect Yurio to skate a great agape performance come episode 11!

anonymous asked:

Oh I don't know how to say this.. I have this problem that I can't seem to get rid of. Every time I imagine something, I always fail to put it into words. It always happens when i think about this dress, or this action scene or an amazing plot and whenever I try to describe it, I never can. I'm always so loss at words. This happens a lot. And that just makes me think that maybe writing isn't for me. Do you think I should stop?

No, I don’t think you should stop. If you want to write, you should write!

However, you need to understand that great description doesn’t just happen. It’s something that is learned, over time, through lots of cultivation and practice. Here are some things you should do if you want to fill your brain with all of those lovely words and descriptions:

1) Read. A lot.

The best way to learn how to describe things is to learn from others. Read as much as you can, all different types of books, magazine articles, poems, song lyrics–everything you can get your hands on, and pay attention to descriptions that resonate. Get a notebook and write down words and descriptions that strike your fancy.

2) Be observant.

Pay attention to the world around you. In spare moments, notice the interesting things around you and imagine how you would describe it to someone who couldn’t see it. What sensory details would you include to make the description more vivid? Write these descriptions in your notebook. If you need to, use a thesaurus to look up words to help you describe them.

3) Collect words.

Part of being a writer is cultivating a deep love and understanding of words. You should always pay attention to the words you hear all around you, whether from other people, in books, in TV shows and movies, online, in songs, in magazines and newspapers, on signs–everywhere. When you encounter a new word, write it down and look up the definition. Think of ways you could use it in a descriptive sentence. Keep a list of your favorite words in your notebook.

4) Learn.

Learn about writing and description by reading articles, blog posts, and books that talk about description and the art of writing. For starters, I have a whole section in my post master list dedicated to description. I also have a list of suggested writing books here.

5) Be patient.

Learning to craft descriptions and put things into words takes a lot of time, so don’t feel bad if it doesn’t happen overnight–it won’t. It will take months and even years to get good at it, but you’ll get better and better with each thing you write. So, just keep writing and learning about description and words, and you’ll get there!

I'm too self conscious to send this off-anon but I had to express my appreciation for ITSN, especially HOCKEY AND MALEC TOGETHER, I am a HUGE hockey fan and the way you write the game is magnificent! I had a question, too. I'm a writer with a big problem. I don't know how to start my stories? I have outlined a number of plots from start to finish but I can't seem to start them, those first words are daunting. How do you know where the story starts, those first few sentence - how do you know!?

thank you for the fic love!! i love hearing that hockey fans are cool with the scenes. it’s a huge compliment!!

as for how to start a fic. i think about it as being the literary equivalent of diving–grab your reader’s hand and jump right into the good part. there will be backstory that happens before your first sentence, but you don’t want to start with lengthy descriptions of setting or character analysis. immerse the reader into your world immediately.

for me the other thing to remember is that the first sentence doesn’t have to be perfect in my draft (and likely won’t be). until the moment those words are published i can refine that first sentence. you don’t have to make it perfect on your first try! and just like diving, it takes practice to become better at it.

having someone else read your words can be invaluable as well. it’s always a scary prospect, but getting feedback (and a new point of view) from a person you trust (and who will be honest with you) can be a game changer.

but most of all, write for you. write the story you want to tell, in the voice you want to share with the world. not everybody will connect with it, and that’s okay. if you’re writing for you, then you’ll be happy ♡ xx

  • Zayn: You two were simply telling each other things that not everyone knew about you, but not exactly secrets. "Actually," you started, "I'm a strong believer in meliorism." He hummed and asked, "What does meliorism mean? I've heard it, but never fully understood its definition." You looked at him intensively, "Meliorism is kind of the belief that us humans can make the world a better place, you know? Like, I've always thought that there's more to us than just masochists and sadists and criminals. I think there are more people like the two of us, who want to make the world a better place and help everyone who needs it. Meliorism has always been a big part of me." He sighed, "Wow, you're so smart and so thoughtful. How are you even with me?" You laughed at that because how could you not be with him? He was actually perfect! "Don't say that, you're perfect." He leaned in and kissed you, and you obviously kissed him back.
  • Harry: There were many restless nights between the two of you, whether it was because of the coffee that you drank ten minutes before going to bed, or stress, or worry. It was quite amazing actually, if one of you couldn't sleep, the other couldn't either. You two would watch sappy or crappy movies at 2am, shower at 4am, and at 5am, exactly at dawn, he would sing you a song. Maybe one that he had just written or one that he, or you, loved. He sang with such passion that it was obvious he loved what he did. This time, he was singing Crazy for You by Adele, such a heartfelt song. "Most beautiful aubade I've heard," you whispered, mostly to yourself. "What's that?" Harry asked. "Aubade," he continued. "An aubade is a song perform at dawn." To emphasize what you just said, you pointed to the window where the sun was coming up. He smiled, pecking your lips in a feather-like way.
  • Liam: You and Liam rarely fought, but when you did, it was mostly about his constant partying and drinking, especially at that Funky Buddha place. "You can't keep partying every time you have a break, Liam! You're such a rantipole; you can't keep living like this!" He raised an eyebrow, and I wasn't sure if it was in anger or confusion. His facial expression, however, told me it was both. "And you expect me to know what a rantipole is? I can't argue back if I don't know what a word in the sentence means!" Before I could stop it, a giggle escaped my lips, ending the whole tense/I'm-mad-at-you scene. He laughed too, and we just sat on the couch looking at each other. "Now can we settle this in a calm way?" he suggested. After we were done talking, and were finally laying in bed, he asked, "Really, though. What's a rantipole?" I giggled yet again, "a reckless person, Li." His face softened, "Oh. That makes sense."
  • Niall: After millions of complaints from Niall, you finally got him to help you clean out your shared closet. It took quite a lot of begging and even some offers that he couldn't turn down (he accepted, actually, thanks to those offers), but he finally agreed. As you were both about to finish, you found an unmistakable tuxedo: the one Niall wore to Greg's wedding. "Put this on," you exclaimed, shoving it in his face. "Why?" he groaned, extending the 'y'. "Because," you seductively walked over to him, "you look eesome in it." His eyes somewhat widened, "Just because of that weird word, I'm not gonna put it on." It was your turn to groan, "It means pleasing to the eye, handsome even. Now go! Put it on!" He laughed, "You're so harassing! Fine."
  • Louis: Louis has always been a prankster or, for lack of a better word, a clown. You weren't the exact opposite of him, but you were more serious than he was (what they say about opposites attracting comes true between the two of you). "You're such a liripoop," you said one day. "I'm a what-poop?" he laughed back. "A liripoop," you emphasized 'liri' to make a point. He made a hand gesture signalizing for me to go on and tell him what that meant. "A liripoop is a silly person, Lou." He laughed, and you thought that if he laughed any harder, some liquid would come out of his nose. "Gosh that's such a weird word! Can you call me that from now on?" he hopefully asked, and you just laughed, pecking his lips and nodding your head.
  • a/n: wow, it's been almost two months since i last posted, i apologize. i know that's all i seem to do, post late, but i was trying to focus 100% in school for the last month, and then i went into a no-writing hiatus sozz. but since it's summer, there'll hopefully be more updates! AND CAN WE JUST TALK ABOUT ZOUIS JESUS CHRIST. THAT HAD BEEN MY GOAL SINCE LIKE FOREVER IM SO MULTIPLE EXCLAMATION POINTS, i even started writing a fic based on it around three months ago (check it out on wattpad; it's called blazed & my username is "bradfcrd")
