Hamilton: sorry you didn’t win presidency, I guess your campaign

Burr: Stop

Hamilton: Crashed and BURRned

Burr, Narrating: It was at this moment I knew I had to kill him

phillip hamilton things, for people who haven't or can't see the show.

-during his rap in take a break, he starts out nervous and then kid gets WAY IN TO IT, bending his knees and flexing his arms and yelling. alex hugs him and looks so proud and phillip is so pleased with himself. it’s precious.

-during reynolds pamphlet, jefferson, madison, and burr take him up front, surround him, and show him the paper. they point and say “at his own house? at his own house? damn.” out loud to him and oh my god his face, he’s shattered. you can physically see his father get taken down a peg in his eyes. I can’t even describe it. it was heartbreaking.

- I always pictured his argument with george eaker happening up close, like he pushed past a bunch of people and was up his face. but no, eaker is up on the balcony and in true hamilton fashion, phillip is making a scene and shouting at him from below. the actors in the “play” even stop to watch, and you’re like damn this really is alex’s son.

-when he’s telling his dad about the duel, alex is standing with his arms folded (and using his “dad” voice) and phillip looks so sheepish but also defiant and it reminds me so much of “meet me inside.”

-“stay alive reprise.” tore. my. heart. out. which I knew it would but jesus. no mercy. I was full on sobbing. (eliza screams at the end of it and I can’t even describe that. it’s so horrible and your breath catches in your throat and she sounds so worn down and destroyed. she’s held it together throughout all the shit alex put her through but in that moment it all comes crashing down and you can hear so much pain. It’s heartbreaking and beautiful. the acting is amazing.)

Jamilton 147

““Mr. Jefferson it would mean a great deal to me…” George sat on his bed, illness taking him hostage for a few days, “if you kept an eye on Alexander.”

How dare the president wave his authority like that? Washington and Jefferson had a professional history. Jefferson was his choice to be appointed as a member of his cabinet not to babysit his heated, loud mouthed orphan George had allowed to run rampant through the halls. Thomas had half the mind to tell Washington he wouldn’t stand for this sort of insult on his behalf…However, he was ill. The man barely took time for his health, if it wasn’t the country he was worrying about it was the people he cared about. Hamilton included.

No harm would come if Thomas glanced at Alexander’s office once or twice, just to be sure he was still (sadly) moving along with his outrageous proposals. So he did, the first day early in the morning he stopped by Alexander’s desk and found him with two other men holding papers for him as he read through them like a mad man.

Strange, he was hectic even in his own office, his own domain he was wild. There was no ceasing to his flame. Nevertheless he was alive and Thomas did his part. Day two rolled around he did the same and just as before he found Alex acting strange in his own office. He was pacing, rocking on his heels as he twisted and fiddled with his fingers in mid air. Counting? No he was calculating, as if solving an invisible equation in midair. He looked so studious in this light. Fresh in the morning and already sporting his reading glasses and twitching like a high strung professor.

“What do you want, Jefferson?” Alex sneered having caught the man not so subtly watching. “See something you like? Perhaps a man with a real grasp on this nation’s necessities?”

Never mind that then, Thomas shook his head and banished all soft thoughts of a handsome Hamilton. He was nothing but a rat of a man, a vermin living in an office and left nothing but the stench of dead ambitions and crooked schemes.

The third day came and Thomas had arrived a bit too early, no one had seemed to be around. He had nearly forgotten to peek into Alex’s room merely because he figured no man would be at work at this hour. His glance turned into a stare when he found Alex hunched over his desk. Hands pressed against the surface as he leaned in, hair a brown mess that waved down passed his shoulders and dangled as he struggled to read. Thomas could see from afar his arms were shaking. It was only a matter of time until–

“Shit…” Alex muttered the moment his arms gave out and three days worth of no sleeping and staying at his office bit him in the ass. Alex prepared himself for the impact of his body hitting the ground but instead he was leaned up against a sturdy and warm object. Soft velvet and the faint smell of lavender invaded his senses. He tired to shift his weight so he could look up but was hushed by a worried, Southern voice.

“Careful now, ya’ hear?” Thomas whispered with a foreign nurturing voice. The same voice he used for his girls whenever they needed a touch of kindness. “How long have you been at this?”

Still dazed from all that was happening and the lack of sleep, “three days…maybe four…” Alex yawned and slowly started to pull away. “Unhand me Jefferson.”

“Four…days?” Thomas repeated his arms still held out and slightly ghosting over Alex’s uneasy frame. “Are you telling me you haven’t gone home? Eaten? Bathed?”

“I will when I have this document done, it must be done by the time George returns to office.” Hamilton pressed, “Not like you care for hard work. Some of us take pride in what we do because Washington trusts me.”

“Tch” Thomas sucked his teeth in annoyance. “Does he? Is that way he asked me to check up on you? Because he trusts you’ll act like a responsible adult? Oh how you’ve disappointed yet another father figure” Jefferson aimed low and to his surprise was not met with a comeback. Hamilton’s eyes softened.

“Washington asked…for you to check up on me?”

“Yes”

“And you complied?”

“He is my president why wouldn’t I?” In that moment they both shared the same thought. Thomas could have pretended. He could have lied and ignored Alex, then told George all was fine. Instead, Thomas stayed true to his word, he watched Alex in the morning just as George would have wanted. “He cares about you, I suppose someone must if you’re hell bent on ending your career early like this.”

“I don’t need to be watched like some child.” Alex bit back, now the anger began to build. “I can take care of myself just fine.”

“Is that why I caught you before that brilliant mind of yours took a hit to the peripheral cortex?” Thomas challenged back, realizing he had called him brilliant. Or rather his mind, yes his mind was a separate thing. Alexander was the salt of the earth but at least he had a mind head of his time. He was educated…dedicated…Thomas could see why Washington protected hims so.

“I suppose I should get some tea at the very least…and sit…”

“I suppose that is a good of a choice as any though the shower would have been preferred.” He smirked in a teasing fashion. “Come, I believe we can spot some tea in the next gathering room” Thomas motioned for Alexander to follow.

Alexander did, with a chuckle and no less backtalk. “Careful there Jefferson, I might take you up on the offer and let you bathe me~”

“I-I NEVER SAID–”

“What was that about tea?” Alex interrupted, for one morning, Thomas and Alexander shared nothing but soft laughter by a burning kettle.

ENFP Fictional Tropes

Most ENFP characters fall under at least one trope. There are many cross overs in tropes and some ENFPs may not fit the categories presented. However, these tropes do loosely address the roles ENFP characters play in narratives.

The Idealist

These ENFPs see the very best in everyone they meet. They are often the person who will forgive and help the most villainous of characters. They often bring out the best in others by just being themselves. They don’t even need to actively help others, but inspire others with their dreams and ideals. Their enthusiasm brought on by their Ne is often enough. Combined with their Fi caring towards individuals makes the caring on top of it. The idealist ENFPs are usually the most optimistic characters you will find.

Examples: Kenneth Parnell (30 Rock), Antoine Triplett (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Mad Hatter (Disney’s Alice in Wonderland), Tara Maclay (Buffy: The Vampire Slayer), Eleventh Doctor (Doctor Who), Buddy the Elf (Elf), Nemo (Finding Nemo), Barry Allen (The Flash), Olaf (Frozen), Kiki (Kiki’s Delivery Service), Ariel (The Little Mermaid), Moana (Moana), Naruto Uzumaki (Naruto Shippuden), Henry Mills (Once Upon a Time), Capheus (Sense8), Joyce Byers (Stranger Things), Rapunzel (Tangled), Jessie (Toy Story), Kimmy Schmidt (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Ottoki Otoya (Uta No Prince Sama), and Tara Chambler (The Walking Dead).

The Activist

The Activist ENFP is often first struck with Ne curiosity in the world and the ideas within it and then as they shape their Fi they rally behind a certain cause. The ENFP Activist is passionate about their cause. They may break the rules of society and systems, but they will never turn against their individual cause. Just like the Idealist, the ENFP activist often inspires others, however, they inspire those to follow them. ENFP activists can be very persuasive, living their life in line with their beliefs.

Examples: Hayley Smith (American Dad), Aang (Avatar: The Last Airbender), Karen Page (Netflix’s Daredevil), Marshall Eriksen (How I met Your Mother), Cindy Lou Who (Ron Howard’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas), Helen Parr (The Incredibles), Ray Palmer/Atom (DCTVU), Erik Lensherr/Magneto (Marvel Comics and X-MenCU), Mike Wheeler (Stranger Things), Sir Thomas More (The Tudors), Sam Seaborn (The West Wing), and Judy Hopps (Zootopia).

The Salesman

This ENFP character can convince you of anything and sell you on their vision. Whether they are healthy or not, their Ne makes them idea people that inspire, their Fi helps them appeal to people and their individual sense of self. They make you think that they can help make all your dreams come true. Healthy or unhealthy, their Te can help them make you think their idea is your priority, like they have your interests at heart (combined with Fi). This can help them actually help you or help them completely swindle you. No matter what they will make you for at least a moment feel special as they take you on a romantic journey of your dreams.

Examples: Katherine Pierce (The Vampire Diaries), Genie (Aladdin), Walt Disney (Saving Mr. Banks), Randy Marsh (South Park), Tom Haverford (Parks & Recreation), Erlich (Silicon Valley), Taco (The League), Tiffany Doggett (Orange is the New Black), Michael Scott (NBC’s The Office), Christian (Moulin Rouge!), John Hammond (Jurassic Park), Thomas Jefferson (Hamilton: An American Musical), Bumi (Avatar: The Legend of Korra), Gob Bluth (Arrested Development), and Malcolm Merlyn (Arrow).

The Prince

This is the darker side of the ENFP. They are probably the most self-involved trope. They believe their their wants are the needs of others. They demand others to serve their personal priorities. They often don’t see their work as selfish, but part of a greater cause or purpose. However, they are usually looping ENFPs. Many Prince ENFPs find themselves in leadership positions because they are over using their tertiary Te that they think is morally just because of their minimal use of their secondary Fi function. They use Te objectivity as a shield against their own subjective motives of Fi-Si. These types often have potential to be more positive tropes, but have faltered in their quest to satisfy their inferior function fears and desires.

Examples: Ice King (Adventure Time), Malcolm Merlyn (Arrow), Cheryl Tunt (Archer), The Master (Doctor Who-10th Doctor Era), King Richard, Jaime Lannister (Game of Thrones), Ronald Weasley (Harry Potter Series), Sean McGinnes (Hell on Wheels), Willis ‘Diamondback’ Stryker (Luke Cage), Julia (Syfy’s The Magicians), Erik Lensherr/Magneto (Marvel Comics/X-Men Cinematic Universe), Obito Uchiha (Naruto Shippuden), Peter Pan (Once Upon a Time), Marshal D. Teach “Blackbeard” (One Piece), Klaus Mikaelson (The Vampire Diaries/The Originals), and Catherine Earnshaw (Wuthering Heights).

The Champion Leader

ENFP leaders become so in their hope to help others. They are concerned with the forgotten because of their Introverted Feeling. They are a champion of a cause like the activist, but find themselves leading others in order to accomplish their goals. Their leadership style isn’t one of intense organization, but of individuality and independence. They are often because of Ne-Fi on the ground doing tasks with their followers in order to accomplish group goals. They have a hard time delegating, standing back and letting only others enjoy the fun of the action. This is due to their Ne being more present oriented and Fi being a function that can’t be used conceptually, but perceptually. The ENFP leader is far more comfortable helping others in the situation rather than apart from it.

Examples: Clark Kent/Superman (DC), Renly Baratheon (Game of Thrones), Chris (Bravest Warriors), Peter Quill (Guardians of the Galaxy), King Arthur (Mists of Avalon), Moana (Moana), Hashirama Senju (Naruto Shippuden), Peter Pan (Disney’s Peter Pan), Monkey D. Luffy (One Piece), Dr. Alexander Sweet (Penny Dreadful), Erik Lensherr/Magneto (Marvel/X-Men Cinematic Universe), and Captain Kirk (Star Trek).

The Goof

This is the most under-estimated ENFP character. They come off is aloof, odd, and carefree on the surface. But this is often a misread. The ENFP goof is often wandering the unbeaten Ne dominance path, seeing things differently in ways that other types can’t accept or don’t understand. Their sense of genius is mistaken for oddity. They usually surprise others with their intelligence and success, because it is never how others would go about completing a given task or goal. Their genius word play is often seen as simply humorous rather than an indicator of a deeper intelligence.

Examples: Mabel Pines (Gravity Falls), Second Doctor & Eleventh Doctor (Doctor Who), Troy Barnes (Community), Fez (That ‘70s Show), Gregory (Over the Garden Wall), Spongebob Squarepants (Spondgebob Squarepants), Bing Bong (Inside Out), Hugo ‘Hurley’ Reyes (LOST), Bert (Morry Poppins), Mei (My Neighbor Totoro), Winston Bishop (New Girl), Erin Hannon (NBC’s The Office), Russell (Up), Lorelai Gilmore (Gilmore Girls), Madam Mim (The Sword in the Stone), Gene Belcher (Bob’s Burgers), Scooby-Doo (Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?), Peter Quill (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Bolin (Avatar: The Legend of Korra).

two.

“Thomas Jefferson,” You read out loud to Peggy as you ate a bowl of cereal. “He’s 31. Loves France, art, and is looking for a companion.” You laughed a little, but your voice quickly softened. “He makes over $100,000.”

“You say that like it’s a bad thing.” Peggy snorted, digging into her breakfast.

“Well,” You paused. “No, but -” You chuckled. “That’s a lot of money. More than what I make.”

“Definitely. What else?”

“He’s really tall and he’s really fit from the looks of these pictures.” You smiled, scrolling through the photos on his profile. “He’s traveled a lot and -”

Another message!

Peggy knew what the look on your face meant. She squealed and quickly peered over your shoulder.

“What did he say? What did he say?”

You opened the message and felt your heart race as the app loaded. Finally, your conversation with Thomas appeared. You picked right back up from where you left off.

Hi, darling. It’s been great talking to you. How does a night out in the city sound?

“A night out in the city.” Peggy grinned. “And maybe if you play your cards right -”

You blushed. “Hush, Pegs.” You went to type out a response.

Sounds great. What do you have in mind?

I figured we could do dinner. I wanted to get to know you better, love.

“Darling? Love?” Peggy was practically bouncing in her seat. “These pet names are too much. I’m going to die.”

That sounds great! I’d like that a lot.

His response came right away.

Perfect. Gramercy Tavern at six? I’ll come by and pick you up.

“What kind of car do you think he drives? Maserati?” Peggy mused. “Mercedes-Benz?” She gasped. “A Rolls Royce?”

“He looks like a BMW kind of guy.” You mused as you typed out a response.

Okay, here’s my address. I’ll see you then!

You sat back in your chair with a little sigh. You turned your phone off and looked up at Peggy. “What am I going to wear?”

“Wear your white dress. The short one with the lace. We can jazz it up with some jewelry.”

“Gramercy Tavern is like, crazy nice though.”

“You’re going to look amazing. Relax.”

You tried to. If it was any other situation, you were sure you would have been more excited, but there was something about the whole arrangement that made you nervous. Was it shallow that you were asking for money? Would people judge you? You didn’t want to come off across as desperate, but in all honestly, that’s what you were.

You went to class with Peggy but when you two came back home, you were still on edge.

It neared six o’ clock. Thomas would be here soon. You were dressed to the nines with Peggy’s expertise. The dress hit all the right places, accentuated the best parts of your body. The dress was short so it hit your waist but showed off your legs. You finished the look with nude heels, a matching clutch, and a pretty diamond necklace. Your makeup was done, your hair was curled. You even shaved your legs for the night.

You looked the part. Now, you’d just have to get through dinner.

You felt your phone buzz. It was Thomas.

Darling, I’m outside.

“He’s outside.” You felt your heart race. “Peggy, where’s my phone?”

“In your hand.” She deadpanned, looking up at you. “Deep breath,” She advised you, placing her hands on your shoulders. “This is just the man that’s going to pay your tuition if he likes you enough to do so. No pressure or anything but just make sure you’re charming and beautiful and perfect.”

You glared at her as she finished her sentence, but it wasn’t long before you two laughed. Peggy smiled.

“Knock ‘em dead. You look gorgeous.” She gave you a quick hug. “Pray to God I won’t have to file a police report, but I’ll know what to tell them if something does happen.”

“We’ll be at Gramercy Tavern. Don’t forget. The one on 42 East Twentieth Street.”

“Got it.” She looked you up and down once more, memorizing your outfit in case she would have to give a description to the police. “If you’re uncomfortable at all, call me. I will pick you up. I’m not kidding.”

“I know.” You mumbled. Peggy wasn’t one to joke about those things. “I’ll send you the siren emoji.”

“Okay. Make sure you get that license plate. I may or may not text you every hour to make sure you’re alive.”

“Thanks, Peggy.” You smiled and squeezed her hand before heading out the door. “Love you!”

“Love you too!”

You were greeted by the cool New York air. You walked down the few steps that led up to your place with Peggy, before looking around.

You had practically memorized the face of the man you were looking for now. Curly hair, bright smile, brown eyes. You hadn’t seen him until -

He stood at the bottom of the stairs, smiling at you.

Mr. Jefferson was incredibly handsome, dressed in a white dress shirt with a black blazer and matching slacks. He donned a slim black tie, completing his look. You knew he was handsome just by the look of his profile picture, but to see him in person still took your breath away. He was taller than you imagined. You were in awe of him as he came forward to greet you.

“Hi, darling. I’m Thomas.” He said smoothly, hints of his Southern accent coming out. He leaned forward, brought you in for a hug and kissed your cheek. He pulled away and gave you a little smile.

It was brighter than the New York skyline. There was this strange sort of warmth that filled your heart as you looked up at him. From a single smile, you felt like you had known him for years.

“You’re even lovelier in person.” Thomas whispered, a little twinkle in his eye.

“T-Thank you.” You blushed and Thomas’ eyes seemed to soften at the sight of you. You tucked a loose strand of hair behind your ear and reminded yourself to speak up.

“I’m (Y/N). It’s nice to meet you too.”

“Shall we?” He offered you his arm. You took it gratefully, and let him lead you to the car. Peggy and you were both wrong. His car was sleek, sophisticated, and a gorgeous black Bentley. He opened the car door for you and helped you in, before closing the door behind you.

You were greeted with the feeling of luxurious leather seats underneath your fingertips. You remembered you needed to ask him something.

When he came into the car, you spoke up. “Is it alright if I get your license plate?”

Thomas nodded, slipping his keys into the ignition. “Course, darling. It’s 6YJ8R54.”

“Thank you.” You quickly sent a text to Peggy and relaxed when she sent you a thumbs up emoji back. “My roommate just wants to make sure I’m alright. Not that you’re a bad person or anything.”

“No, I understand. The last thing I want for you is to be uncomfortable. Especially if we continue seeing each other after this.” He pointed out, pulling out onto the streets of New York. “So, have you been to Gramercy Tavern before?”

“Never.” You admitted. The radio played softly in the background. Smooth, sultry jazz poured into the car.

“Well, I’m honored to be your first.” He smiled a little. “I think you’ll like it.”

“I’m sure I will.” You turned your phone off. “Hey, is this the album you mentioned to me last night?”

“Miles Davis.” He grinned. “Yeah. You remembered.”

“Yeah,” You laughed a little. “Plus it sounded familiar.”

“I didn’t know you liked jazz.”

“I can appreciate it. My dad listened to jazz a lot when I was a kid. Kind of nice to hear it again.”

The restaurant wasn’t too far from your apartment. Thomas chatted with you about the city, and you appreciated it. You felt a little more comfortable the closer you got to the restaurant. You had driven through the heart of the city, the bright lights and live energy making you smile until he turned down a less busy street. He pulled up in front of the restaurant.

You shouldn’t have been surprised when he pulled right into valet, but even still you were. He gave you a little smile before the workers opened each of your car doors. You stepped out and looked at the lovely restaurant before you. Thomas spoke to the employee for a moment before coming around. He offered you his arm again.

“I’m impressed, Mr. Jefferson.” You chuckled a little.

“I know it might take a little getting used to, but when you’re with me, expect nothing less.”

“What is it that you do again?”

“I work in marketing. It gets pretty busy, but I like the job.”

“Clearly it pays well.”

Thomas smirked. “You could say that, yeah.”

You looked up at him, noticing how smug he looked before you laughed along with him. He opened the door to the restaurant for you and you slipped inside. He had his hand on your lower back as you approached the hostess.

She greeted you warmly. It only took a minute for her to find Thomas’ reservation. She had you follow her and quickly sat you down at a table. Thomas was ever the gentleman, pulling out your chair and you sat at the candlelit table together. The ambiance was warm and yet, not too stuffy. You were sure you didn’t fit in with this crowd, but being with Thomas made you feel a little better.

Other diners laughed and chatted around you. You couldn’t help but notice how many more couples were there. To your left, someone was celebrating an anniversary. Another couple held hands across the table to your right. It was such a romantic place. You wondered if he chose this place for a reason.

“And you, sweetheart? What is it that you hope to do?” He looked at you curiously. “Or do you see this as how you’re going to make a living?”

The question took you aback. You knew what he was referring to when he said this. You were sure he didn’t mean to come across as rude, but it seemed so anyway. You pursed your lips together, tried to keep yourself calm before you called Thomas a self-entitled prick–or something along those lines.

“Actually, I’m in school right now.” You straightened up a little, looking him right in the eye. “I’m studying to be a (M/N). My scholarship is ending soon. I’m concerned about how I’ll pay for my tuition. I don’t want to take out more loans so I needed to find a way to get some extra cash. I’m not sure what reasons you’ve heard from other girls, but I promise it’s more than because I want a new pair of shoes.”

You let out a sigh as soon as you got the statement out. You knew you probably shouldn’t have snapped at the man who was essentially going to pay your tuition, but you weren’t sorry. You simply looked up at him with a tight smile.

Maybe this was a bad idea. You thought. You started to think about an alternative plan. You could take a couple more hours at work and -

“I respect that.” Thomas spoke up. You stared up at him. He leaned back in his chair a little. “I’d be glad to help.”

You nodded a little and let out a sigh of relief. Your heart was beating so quickly, you felt like it was going to explode. “Thank you.”

Thomas felt something click inside him. He’d been on other dates before with women who he couldn’t even recall the name of and yet, here he was, hanging onto every word you said as if it was your last.

He couldn’t explain the feeling he had at the time, but looking back he knew exactly what it was.

He didn’t have time to dwell on it because you spoke up again.

“I have to admit,” you opened up the menu as you spoke. Your eyes fell on the word lobster at least three times. “I’ve never done this before so how is this relationship going to work?”

“I like you.” Thomas chuckled, thanking the hostess when she brought you glasses of water. “Most girls aren’t this honest. Or frankly as interesting.”

You laughed a little. “Really?”

“I knew you were new to this lifestyle from the moment you messaged me.” He pointed out. “You were polite.” He laughed a little. “And you were right about what you said earlier. Most girls just want a taste at this upscale lifestyle, which isn’t wrong or anything, but to hear your reason …” He had a little glint in his eye. “You’re very smart.”

“For getting a sugar daddy?” You laughed a little. “You’re just trying to make me feel better.”

“No. It’s smart!” He insisted. “And your reason is pretty noble.”

“Do you know how long it took me to admit that I was becoming a sugar baby? I felt so embarrassed.”

“There’s nothing wrong with it.” Thomas chuckled a little. “It shows that you’re resourceful. You do what you have to do to get ahead. It’s … admirable.”

You smiled a little, looking at Thomas from across the table. “You make me sound so noble … like this is some great sacrifice I’m making for the greater good.” You exaggerated before the two of you started laughing.

He shrugged. “You’re doing it for a worthy cause to me. More than for a pair of shoes.”

You started to say more, but you turned your head when you heard the workers singing happy birthday to a diner across the restaurant. You smiled fondly before looking back to Thomas. You didn’t notice how intently he admired you.

“Before the waitress comes back, how does the tasting menu sound? I think it’ll give you a bit of everything on the menu.” He hummed. “Do you like seafood?”

“Yeah. It sounds great.” You looked over what the tasting menu offered. Marinated scallops, lobster salad, duck breast and sausage. Your mouth watered. You knew this would be the nicest meal you would have had in a while.

“If there’s anything else you want, let me know.”

You smiled and promised you would, but you still felt a little uncomfortable about it the whole ordeal. It would take some getting used to.

The waitress came by, politely asked you for drinks. You both told her your orders and before she left, Thomas ordered the tasting platter. The waitress took your menus and left you alone, not leaving without giving you a friendly smile.

Soft classical music played in the background. You could hear the clink of silverware all throughout the restaurant.

“Do you come here often?” You asked, trying to fill the silence.

“Yes. Usually on business though.” He nodded a little, fingers tapping along the table absentmindedly. “It’s nice to be here on a date for once.”

“I haven’t gotten out much either.” You mumbled a little shyly.

“No college boys for you?” He asked with a smile. You shook your head and he raised his eyebrows in surprise. “Come on, there has to be someone. You’re a beautiful girl.”

“I’m flattered, but no,” You played with the end of your napkin a little nervously. “Besides, they don’t know how to treat a lady.”

Thomas raised his eyebrows, a little smirk beginning to form on his face. “That so?”

“Yep.” You smiled before continuing. “Plus, half of them are just there to party.”

Thomas laughed at your comment, but he tilted his head a little your previous comment.

“Well, you focus on your studies, love. I’ll treat you better than those boys.”

And from the way he looked at you with his kind eyes and small smile, you had no doubt that he would.

You shared an appetizer, continued you talk all throughout your time there. He ordered a bottle of wine for the two of you. You only had one drink. Eventually, you did get into how your arrangement would work, and as awkward as it was at first, it made you feel a little better once you set the ground rules.

You’d have an allowance–money you could spend however you chose. He figured he’d pay you by the date and give you extra money if you needed it.

“I know you’d like me to cover your tuition mostly, but I don’t mind treating you from time to time. Clothes, makeup, etc.” He trailed off.

You felt yourself getting starry eyed. You were lucky enough to get Thomas as your sugar daddy. You were pleasantly surprised at how well this was going. He’d been nothing but a gentleman so far.

“And if I have any events, I’d love to bring you along to them.” He mentioned. “If your schedule allows you to.”

“Of course.”

Your waitress came by with your first entree. It was delicious, and Thomas was glad to see how much you were enjoying the food. The food came out one after another. Marinated scallops, squash tortellini.

For a moment, he indulged in this idea of you. He could see himself doing this with you often. You were intelligent and funny and easy to talk to. As he looked at you, he wondered if there would be a chance that you would love him for more than his money.

Yet, he knew the chances of that were unlikely. It was implied that you were not to fall in love with one another. Besides, he hadn’t been in love since -

“Are you alright?” You asked him softly, noticing the zoned out look in his eye.

Thomas laughed a little. “Y-Yes. Sorry about that. Lost in thought.”

“It’s okay.” You straightened up a little. “I was asking you about Virginia. What’s it like?”

Just like that, Thomas was talking again, that familiar twinkle in his eye and that bright smile on his face. You’d never been there, but from the way Thomas talked about it, you wanted to see it someday for yourself.

“And that’s Virginia in a nut-shell.” Thomas chuckled. He started to say more, until your waitress came back. Thomas turned his attention to her.

“Would you two be interested in getting dessert tonight?” She asked with a little smile, already handing the menu to Thomas.

“Darling, wanna take a look?” He opened to the dessert page and slipped it over to you. “You can order whatever you want.”

You took it from him with a little smile. You only needed a minute before you made up your mind.

“The chocolate cake sounds good.”  You hummed. Thomas smiled.

“It’s amazing. You’re gonna love it.”

You handed him the menu back and he gave it to the waitress. “We’ll do the chocolate cake.”

“Excellent choice.” The waitress smiled. “The cookie platter is complimentary with it so I’ll bring that out as well.”

“Perfect, thank you.”

Thomas noticed how you perked up at the mention of the cookie platter. He looked over at you once the waitress had gone.

“I may or may not have wanted that all along.” You smiled a little, looking down a little.

“Don’t be shy. Tell me if you ever want anything. I’ll get it for you.” He reached across the table and gently squeezed your hand. He pulled away almost immediately after, but you appreciated the gesture. “That’s how this relationship works.”

Dessert was amazing. You split the cake and Thomas was right–you did love it. The cookie platter was cute, full of six different kinds of cookies that came with glasses of milk for each of you. That combined with the chocolate cake had you feeling stuffed, but in the best way possible.

Thomas didn’t let you look at the bill. He paid and tipped the waitress without missing a beat. As soon as he got his card back, he gave you a little smile.

“Ready to go?” Thomas asked, straightening up in his chair a little. You nodded, grabbed your phone, your clutch, and rose to your feet. He helped you up and instinctively put his hand on the small of your back as a server went past you with his hands full of entrees. Soon after, you both headed outside, reentering the New York scene.

The sky was pitch black but there were a few stars. The lights from the city shone brighter than them. You stood closer to Thomas as a cold wind blew. You rubbed your shoulders to gather some warmth, but Thomas quickly slung his blazer over your shoulders. He promised the car was coming around in a minute. Once his car pulled around, he helped you inside.

Before he drove off, he put the heater on lowly. His blazer was still around your shoulders. His cologne filled your nose.

“I’ll drop you off at your place.”

You perked up at this. “Not yours?”

Thomas shook his head. “I don’t expect you to put out on the first date.”

You nodded slowly. “The other girls you’ve been with … do they go home with you on the first date?”

“Uh, sometimes. Usually, they insist.”

But you seem different. He wanted to say, but he decided against it.

He cleared his throat a little. “Don’t worry about it. I said I wanted to get to know you better, and that I did. This is your address, right?”

You looked at his phone which was open to his GPS. “Mhmm.”

“Alright. We’ll be there in a little.”

You got lost in the city around you, felt warm from Thomas’ gestures as well as the heat on in the car. You looked over at Thomas, quietly admired the silhouette of his profile.

Before you could get caught up in the idea of him, you reminded yourself this was an arrangement in which love wasn’t a part of the deal. You turned off the feeling. Ignored it. You didn’t have time to fall in love. Thomas didn’t seem to either.

Before you knew it, Thomas had parked in front of your apartment. He turned the car off and gave you a little smile.

“I’ll walk you to your door.” He got out of the car and you did too. By the time, he came around, he had helped you onto the sidewalk and walked with you up the few steps that led to your front door. You took off his blazer and handed it back to him.

“Thank you for such a nice night out.” You said, looking up at him. He took his blazer from you with a little smile while you were busy digging into your clutch for your keys. You found them and smiled up at Thomas.

He looked heavenly. His hair framed his face perfectly. He looked content. The moonlight hit his face and showed off his best features. You could see him smiling back at you.

“It was a pleasure.”

You reached up on your tiptoes and kissed his cheek. Once you pulled away, he whispered, “I’ll transfer the money tomorrow morning.”

You’d agreed he would give you an extra $200 for each date, but you were sure he spent that alone on dinner. You opened your mouth to protest, but he stopped you before you could say anything.

He gently placed his hands on your shoulders, gave you a loose smile. “All you have to do is say thank you.”

You nodded, managed a smile and a little laugh. “Thank you, Thomas. I really had a great time.”

He grinned. “Me too. Good night, darling.”

“Good night.” You said softly then walked through the front door. You couldn’t help but smile as you kicked your heels off.

You could get used to this.

Part 1

After that day, it was extremely difficult to walk out of your apartment without reporters flashing lights in your face or taking pictures of you. It was the same questions, like how does it feel to have three soulmates? And did you ever think this would happen to you? Three eligible bachelors fanning for your affection? But it was not what you imagined. It’s not what anyone imagined meeting their soulmate (correction: *soulmates) would be like.

This was just the beginning of your odd relationship with them. Burr would drop you off at work in the morning, Madison would take you to a local coffee shop on break, and Jefferson would take you home. Once he asked if you would go to his house instead, with a wink.

You didn’t.

It was hard. It was extremely hard to deal with. Your heart was torn in literally three pieces, fighting to share your love with all three of them. You were stressed, and you cursed to the universe every night. There were being even more unfair, they were making you exhausted every day.

Eliza said that you were complaining too much, and that you should appreciate what the world has given you. You retorted back, asking if she could handle having three soulmates. She blushed, wiggling her eyebrows at you.

You decided to not bring it up to her again.

After a few weeks of this, you decided to have a meeting with all three of them at your home. There were few reporters still there, and Thomas made the last few go away, with threatening to call his “resources” to make them get fired. They quickly dispersed after that, never showing their faces to you again. You shook your head at Thomas’s threat, but he insisted that it was for your privacy, and that he would do everything in his power to keep the media out of your lives.

You ordered takeout that night, the boys wanting to buy it for you instead. You scowled them for the hundredth time that day, telling them that you had enough money to spare. You appreciated their kindness, but sometimes, you wanted to treat them instead.

You heard a knock on the door, and opened it, your three soulmates standing there in front of you. You couldn’t ignore the throbbing in your chest when you saw them, the universe reminding you that you loved them more than anything. Jefferson wore a dark purple shirt tonight, his hair neatly combed (if you could do that to the curls on his head). He walked in, kissing your forehead softly. Madison strolled by next, wearing a dark blue shirt. The smile on his face made you grin back at him, he kissed your cheek. Burr was the last, wearing a black shirt. He pulled you into a hug instead, holding you as tight as possible.

They all gathered in the kitchen, sitting at the small table. You lived alone, so a small table with four chairs seemed enough for you, at the time. Now that these massive men were in your home, you made a mental note to buy a bigger table. The three of them were cramped in the apartment, constantly bumping into each other. Maybe a bigger apartment instead.

“How are you, my love?” Jefferson asked, gathering the plates.

“I’m fine, Thomas.” You replied, pulling out the rice containers. James placed his hand on the small of your back, telling you to sit down.

“We’ve got this, Y/N. You bought the food, so we’ll serve you.” Burr grabbed sodas out of the fridge, and James helped, putting ice in the cups.

You were extremely thankful for them. As you four sat down, Madison next to you and Burr and Jefferson across from you. You wanted to enjoy your moment with the boys, but you couldn’t help but bring up the point that you needed to make. They were chatting with each other, ignoring your pleas and gestures. After a minute of this, you rose you voice, causing them all to look at you.

“Listen, guys, listen. I, don’t you think our situation is weird? We’re all soulmates, isn’t that strange to you at all?” Madison was the first one to shake his head.

“Not at all. Before we met you, Thomas and I grew up knowing that there was someone out there who had the same tattoo as us. Once ours didn’t glow or hurt when we saw it, we knew there was a missing link.” Madison glanced over at Burr. “Two missing links.”

“James is right, this seems okay to me. Why, do you not like us?” Burr asked, pausing in his eating. You sighed, putting your head in your hands. You were constantly bombarded with mixed emotions from the three of them all the time. There was research done that suggests soulmates felt the pain and other emotions of their loved one, and vice versa. Since you had three, you felt all of what they felt.

Right now, you felt nervousness emulating from all of them. It was cumbersome to deal with all their emotions at the same time. Your head was throbbing, and you tried to deal with it. “No, Aaron, that’s not what I’m trying to say. I just, I don’t know if I can do this.” You whispered.

You felt a burning sensation on your arm, and looked at it quickly. The dragon tattoo on your arm was burning bright red, fading the tail of the dragon. You widened your eyes at your arm, looking at your soulmates. They were all looking at theirs as well, watching it fade.

“You’re rejecting us, Y/N?” Thomas whispered, a small bit of sorrow in his eyes.

“No, I’m not, I-“

“We’ve researched this for our whole lives, Y/N, don’t you remember? We know what happens to soulmates when one of them rejects the other. Your tattoo begins to fade. As you grow away from them, it continues to dissipate, until there is nothing left. We know what we’re talking about.” Thomas hissed, growing angry. You shook your head, looking at the dragon.

“I don’t know how I feel about all of you, about this.” You whispered. “I care about all of you, but it’s like I’m not myself anymore. It’s like, everything you guys think, everything you do, consumes me. I can’t think around you all.”

Burr grabbed your fingers, his eyes pleading with you. “We can figure this out, we are scientists. We can make it easier for you to handle. Just, just don’t give up on us, please.” Burr said desperately. You hated hearing his voice shake, but you needed some space, and space. To deal with this.

You nodded, hearing Burr sigh in relief. He was the most sensitive out of the four of you. Since you two have met, he needed constant reassurance that you were not going to leave him. You always wondered why, but never found the time to ask him about it.

“I won’t give up on you three, I need some time. I need some time to stop these headaches that I’m getting. It’s hard enough to deal with my own emotions, let alone three other people.” They nodded. You sensed relief from the rest of them, and it calmed your headache. Dealing with positive emotions were much easier than negative ones.

“Can we eat in piece, now?” Thomas mumbled, grabbing an egg roll from the pile. You smiled at him, picking the sweet and sour chicken out of the middle. “Y/N, I told you to get soy sauce.” He grumbled, staring at the sauces on the table.

“I asked the lady for it, did she not put any in the bag?” Thomas pouted, and you told him to check in the closet for sauce. Fortunately, you saved packages from previous takeout. He grinned happily, sitting back down next to Burr. “Guys, I have a question.” They all looked up at you. “Do you, do you feel the same way about each other like I feel about you. You know, romantic feelings?” Burr laughed, glancing at the two men next to him.

“Why do you ask?” Madison asked.

“Because, it seems weird that we’re soulmates and I only love you, but you don’t love each other.”

“Good question.” Thomas replied, lending you no more information. You rolled your eyes at his lack of a response.

“Come on.” You grumbled.

“We do, love each other.” Madison answered for them, twirling noodles in his fork. “Before we met you, it was more like a brotherly love. We knew we were soulmates, too, so that was kind of a given.”

Thomas interrupted Madison. “We didn’t know how many people were going to be soulmates with us, especially after we found Burr. Honestly, I thought it was going to be more than ten people, which sounds ridiculous.” He mumbled, playing with his mac and cheese. You made it for him yourself, since he was always unhappy when dinner didn’t include the “delicacy” (he called mac and cheese that constantly).

“I’m happy that it’s only four, Y/N. Three’s a crowd, four’s a party.” Burr winked, causing you to blush.

“But yes, we do love each other. Once our tattoos glowed, there was a click, at least for me, when I looked at the other two. It was like I was seeing them for the first time.” James replied, smiling at the other two. “I’m happy for us, I really am.”

“And we’ll have great sex.” Thomas murmured, making your face reddened even more than before. You were reminded of Eliza’s look when she mentioned the four of you.

“You’re embarrassing Y/N.” Burr chuckled. Thomas looked up from his food, smirking at you. He wiggled his eyebrows, nudging Burr. Burr grinned, putting his hand on Thomas’s thigh.

“Can we stop talking about the deed? I just want to watch a movie later.” You mumbled. Who knows what emotions you would feel when that happened.

“And after…?” Madison questioned, giving you an evil grin. You gasped, surprised at how blunt Madison was. He was usually the one to mediate and calm everyone down, but it seems like tonight, he was encouraging the other two. You snickered.

“Let’s just focus on the movie right now.”

“We’re definitely gonna f*ck tonight.” Thomas mumbled, and you threw a piece of bread at him. He raised his eyebrows, holding a piece of pork in his hand. You warned him with your eyes, and he grinned, tossing the piece of food at you. The sauce on it hit your face, leaving a trail of grease. You glared at him, picking up the rice container in front of you.

Thomas held his hands up in defense, looking at you. “Come on, Y/N, you started it! Just, not the rice, please. It would take me forever to get it out of my hair.” He complained, and you tossed it anyway, the pellets going on all three of you boyfriends. James sighed, picking the rice off his food. Aaron laughed, grabbing the noodle container. He looked at James, then placed it quickly on his hair, giggling evilly.

James frowned, the noodles cascading down his face. “That’s it, I’m going to stop this right now.” James grabbed the soda bottle from the middle of the table, and poured it on Aaron, and you heard a gasp come out of his mouth.

You three began this insane food fight, tossing anything that was close by. After a few minutes, all the food was on the floor, stains were everywhere; from the ceiling fan to inside your closet. When you were looking at the aftermath, they boys stared at you sheepishly. You broke out into a grin, and laughed.

“You guys are so going to help me fix this up.” James grabbed your waist and ran, carrying you in his arms. You laughed, hitting him on his back softly. “James, we need to clean this up! I don’t want it to stain!”

“We’ll clean it later, but now…” Thomas said, grinning. Aaron was hanging on Thomas’s back, all of them leading you to the bedroom. The happiness radiating from all of them made your heart swell with glee.

And that’s when you knew. You knew that you could handle being with the three of them. At this moment, you could not imagine your life without them in it.
