mactheactor  asked:

So, why raccoons? Of course, we all know they're brilliantly resilient, beautiful creatures, but did but any particular media or personal experience factor into why you joined Team Raccoon?

No haha well I’m not sure exactly when it started, but we fed raccoons in our backyard while I was growing up and that was definitely a factor. One of the first characters I ever drew was a raccoon, and my favorite character from Over the Hedge was RJ (don’t judge I loved that movie).

I really realized how much I liked them in sophomore year of college, and then one thing led to another led to this blog. At this point I’m not sure if I act like a raccoon because I like them a lot, or if I like raccoons a lot because I act like them.

Thanks for the question, mate!

Hi guys! I know I’ve been gone for a while but I’m back and here with something very exciting. Back in June 2016, my friend fay @mmichaelscofield created a chat for multifandom lovers to talk about shows and movies. Over time, the chat has evolved into so much more, and I can genuinely say I’ve made so many amazing friends from it. Fay has since handed admin power over to me, and the members and I have decided it’s time to include a few more lovely people!

What are we looking for?

  • multifandom trash queens like ourselves
  • must have whatsapp! that is the platform that we use
  • active people, we talk a lot so be prepared for lots of messages!
  • open people, as we all love to talk about not only shows and fandom stuff but also ourselves!
  • we really want people who are going to bring something new and special to the chat! spread this to your mutuals and reblog so more people have the chance to join in on the fun!

What do you have to do?

  • Mbf the new chat mom (I don’t want to add strangers but new and old followers are definitely welcome!)
  • Reblog this post, so other people can get in on the fun!
  • Check out all my fandoms here to see if what I stan and if we have anything in common (it’s changed a little bit and is in need of some updating though)
  • Track the tag #multifandomteam
  • Submit to me your name, age, and country.
  • and just something about yourself (likes, dislikes, why you’d like to be added, just as much as you can think of, as well favorite movie, what you’d like to be when you grow up, ship you’d go down with, favorite animal, favorite music etc), people who only send me small descriptions won’t be added. I’m sorry but I want to get to know you a little.
  • include your main fandoms and the link to all your fandoms (tags, navi) so I can check it out.
  • I’d like to really get to know the people before I add them, so expect messages from me so I can get to know more about you!
  • Once accepted, I’ll need you to send me your phone number so I can add you to the chat!

Under the cut, I’m going to be including the urls of all the lovely ladies currently in the chat. If you’re interested, check out their blogs so you can see who your future friends might be!

An Open Letter

I mentioned this in the previous ask with plutonis, but yeah, I really fell off the map with this blog. There has been a separate art project going on, but nothing I felt the need to link over here. So I just…fell off updating. But when I log in, I’m glad to see y’all still here.

So…on to another topic. I’ve come to notice sometimes that when certain characters become popular, be they cartoons, video games, or anything, one of the popular ways to make those people feel bad for genuinely enjoying something and having fun is by saying that their fave is “the next onceler.”

Now, I feel like we should be over the concept of “cringe interests” as a thing, and how stifling they can be for young artists and just people in general when all they want to do is just have…harmless fun with something. Buuuut more often than not people try and justify themselves by saying they’re totally not like these guys. And I suppose, it’s understandable, but it’s still disheartening to see when it happens. So, personal thoughts.

All right.

I have not enjoyed any movie in the DCEU thus far. Some I have found downright painful.

And while I have always been more of a DC girl than a Marvel girl, Wonder Woman has not been a character to whom I have been terribly attached. I don’t know why, to be honest. I mean, I’ve LIKED her, but she wasn’t in even my top 10 favorite characters of all time growing up.

I have, of course, wanted to see a female-led superhero movie, and so from that respect, I was kinda looking forward to this (kinda bracing myself because, again, haven’t enjoyed the DCEU so far so I was a bit dubious). But it was not Wonder Woman specifically driving me to see it.

Well, I just watched the movie, and…it really is good. It isn’t perfect (actually, my only issue with the movie is the villains…well, and a couple other quibbles…like the kinda pointless secret…but they’re mostly minor issues). But it is GOOD.

Gal Gadot in particular really shines in the role. Everything I’ve read praising her in this role is spot on. She really nails both the…I suppose you could say innocence of this character who has not been corrupted by the world, as well as her inner strength.

Chris Pine? Also FANTASTIC. And their chemistry was ON POINT. Really, any time a villain was on screen, I was like “can we go back to Diana and Steve and the rest of them?”

Obviously, something happens I expected to happen because of the time period it was set, but I was surprised to discover - fairly early in, actually - how much I was already going to HATE it when it inevitably happened. So, really, total props to them for setting up the characters and their chemistry and connection that well that quickly.

There is some truly wonderful humor, which I greatly appreciated.

I absolutely adored the fight scene on the beach. I can’t say what it was about it, but it was a fight scene I never knew I needed until I got it.

So while I went in with some trepidation, Wonder Woman really is a very good movie. I don’t know that it’s my favorite superhero movie ever. I might have to rewatch it at some point to figure out where it falls for me. It is, at least, every bit the movie I hoped it would be. And while I was dubious about it going in, I walked out thinking that I would watch the sequel without question.

Except…well…for the thing I would want in the sequel that I know I won’t get. So there is that.

And the fact that makes me way sadder than I thought it would tells me a lot about how much more I enjoyed this movie than I was frankly expecting.

Anyway. Those are my thoughts.

Oshea Jackson Jr - iTunes Q&A
  • Question: What's your favorite song?
  • O'shea: The Perfect Beat by Afrika Bambatta
  • Q: What's the scariest movie you've ever seen?
  • O'shea: I don't get scared by movies, really. But I'm easily disturbed. When I first saw 'Hills Have Eyes', I couldn't get some images out of my head. Still actually
  • Q: What's your favorite movie starring your dad?
  • O'shea: All about the benjamins. Super Suuuuper underrated
  • Q: What's your favorite Ice Cube song?
  • O'shea: Natural Born Killaz
  • Q: Whe do you think you'll finish screenwriting at USC?
  • O'shea: When I feel like my writing is missing something. I'll know it's time to sharpen back up and get to my cinematic roots.
  • Q: When can we expect music from you?
  • O'shea: Ingratiate I would love to do music. I still snap over instruments to myself. But they might typecast ya mans if I put certain type record. For now I'm focused on my craft as an actor but my older brother and I have started a producing team.
  • Q: Why haven't you used your snap?
  • O'shea: Everytime I'm on any social media I'm just thinking. "Why am I not on instagram?"
  • Q: What is your favorite part in SOC?
  • O'shea: Smashing Bryan Turners office. We've all wanted to break things with a bat before.
  • Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
  • O'shea: Crush my enemies. Not really. But I'm a real Nerd and I am completely unapologetic. When I gotta unwind it's video game time.
  • Q: Why didn’t you release the video for ‘Ain’t No Place’? Was it because of being typecast?
  • O'shea: Yes. With the movie having buzz around the Academy I didn't want any possibility of the song affecting the film. And I didn't want it to look like I'm Ice Cube part 2 out here. lol.
  • Q: Were you nervous about trying out for the movie?
  • O'shea: I was extremely nervous. I had to audition for two years and when you've never been through the process. You don't know what could've made you or boke you during that little time you had auditioning. If I didn't take the role. The world woulda killed me. If I didn't win the role. The world woulda killed me. And I was it was as movie. The world woulda killed me. At the end of the day, nothing was gonna sop me from immortalizing my dad in film. A lot of people ain't want me to get the part. Be he did and that's all I needed.
  • Q: Celeb crush?
  • O'shea: She's taken already. Don't wanna start waves.
  • Q: Did you practice some of the songs with your father or did you learn on your own?
  • O'shea: The performance and studio scenes in SOC are me in my element. What I'm used to doing. So when I was there it's like, wait y'all want me to rap my DAD's songs? I BEEN DOIN THIS.
  • Q: Were any of the scenes hard to do?
  • O'shea: More cowbell #SNLjoke
  • Q: Actors you look up to?
  • O'shea: Denzel and Leo
  • Q: Did you re-record some of Cube's verses or lip sync?
  • O'shea: We recorded the whole album, fam
  • Q: Marvel or DC?
  • O'shea: If you gotta ask. Somethin must be wrong.
  • Q: Do you like your fathers older movies?
  • O'shea: of course. People don't appreciate what a great film Players Club is.
  • Q: Do you ever feel pressure to surpass all that your father has accomplished?
  • O'shea: I've felt it since I was in the 5th grade. (The pressure) it doesn't come from him. All of it comes from me because I don't want to feed into the narrative of talent skips a generation or the whole "was born on 3rd base, and thought he hit a triple." Aspect. I'm so appreciative of my blessings and the only way to ensure my own legacy is to perfect my craft.
  • Q: Worst movie you've ever seen?
  • O'shea: Movie 43
  • Q: Best compliment you've ever heard?
  • O'shea: When I hear that I inspire someone. Being a celebrity is cute and all but it's smoke and mirrors. I understand that this all can be taken away in an instant. FAME is a jellyfish. Yeah it's beautiful but don't you dare get wrapped up in it. So while I do have a platform, the best thing i can do is to encourage or inspire. If not i'm just being selfish.
  • Q: Are you going to see Kobe play his very last game?
  • O'shea: Yeah I'll be the guy crying uncontrollably being escorted by security
  • Q: Would you take a role in a Tyler Perry movie?
  • O'shea: Is it about a single parent overcoming obstacles while still maintaining their strong christian values?
  • Q: What artist would we be surprised you listen to?
  • O'shea: I love Imagine Dragons and F.U.N.
  • Q: How was it growing up as ice cubes son?
  • O'shea: It has it's perks of course. But kind of annoying until you grow up lol. I have to put people through so many trials in order for you to be considered my friend. You don't know people's motives. My friend Tanner was my very first friend EVER. Met in kindergarten. Just said 'hey I'm Shea lets be friends.' After that.....Everyone else know me as ice cubes son. But my friends. Call me Shea. And it's 5 of them. You just grow up thinking different being ice cubes son.
  • Q: Would you want your kids to follow in your footsteps?
  • O'shea: If it was their choice by all means. My parents allowed us to find our own paths. But give everything your best effort because if you don't, then why are you doing it?
  • Q: What advice would you give your younger self?
  • O'shea: learn how to dunk
  • Q: Fave Rappers?
  • O'shea: Dwayne Michael Carter and Sean Anderson

  • O'shea: ESPN Radio
  • Q: Will you answer me on day? :(
  • O'shea: "Maybe one Day..." - Drake
  • Q: Do you like Justin Biebers new album?
  • O'shea: I would be lying if I said Justin Bieber didn't have a few tracks on that thang
  • Q: Do you think education is necessary?
  • O'shea: I definitely feel that education is important. But I also feel the mind will not process information it feels it doesn't need. Find what interests you and educate.
  • Q: Growing up, what was the biggest problem you faced?
  • O'shea: Keepin the snakes out the grass.
  • Q: What type of films would you develop as a screenwriter? Is there certain topics that you're passionate about?
  • O'shea: I'm into smart comedies. And movies that don't give a lot away so you're not in the theater tryna guess things before they happen. You kinda just take the films scene by scene like life. If I could write a modern day Big Lebowski, I would be happy as an accomplished writer.
  • Q: Your thoughts about ride along 2?
  • O'shea: needs more me
  • Q: Any difference between before SOC and after?
  • O'shea: I'm a lot meaner and nicer at the same time
  • Q: Any tv shows you want to be part of?
  • O'shea: I would love to be apart of Better Call Saul
  • Q: Favorite place to relax?
  • O'shea: In a woman's presence. #CasonovaAnswer

  • O'shea: Beyoncé whole personality reminds me of my mom. I've never been attracted to her because I see too much of my mom.
  • Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

  • Q: How many Yeezys you got?
  • O'shea: 3. 2 Nikes first editions
  • Q: Would SOC be better if Jason had Eazy with him?
  • O'shea: The fact that he didn't have Eazy is why I would've nominated him
  • Q: If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
  • O'shea: I'd make everyone more understanding. We'd be fine.
  • Q: Was wondering if you'd like both (Harry Potter/Star Wars)?

Shako for the character thing

Give me Characters or give me Death  |  Accepting

  • Why I like them: Shako grew on me. He was foul mouthed fun and he also slapped some sense into Kid. Hahha. It was my rps with Kid that made me like him the best? I liked him before Kid happened, but I definitely adore him best since Kid happened. Hahhaa. He just… shined a lot with Kid? They both grew. They made each other grow? I like that.
  • Why I don’t: I didn’t at first purely because I was a salty bitch and salty about Kohakuma because it seemed like yall just jumped on that soon as Akuma broke up with Sess. It was a dumb reason tho and I’m glad I got over it hahaha.
  • Favorite episode (scene if movie): NA
  • Favorite season/movie: NA
  • Favorite line: TBH when Shako made fun of Kid’s name that was gold. it was something like “what fucker looks at their kid and goes ‘I guess I’ll name him Death the Kid”. Hahaha.
  • Favorite outfit: Don’t have one.
  • OTP: Shakkid. JK. I like Shako and Justin tbh. I hope ya’ll get that going cause I’m hype.
  • Brotp: Shako and Kid
  • Head Canon: It’s your muse why would I have one???
  • Unpopular opinion: Nope
  • A wish: Shakkid jk. I want Shako to be happy and not die.
  • An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: Nothing tbh.
  • 5 words to best describe them: loyal, opinionated, kind, timid (with the intimacy stuff), considerate
  • My nickname for them: no???

Quick hour-long doodle of my favorite ninja kid, aged up a bit (15-16 here).

My headcanon: Sarada finds old photos of her parents and asks Sakura why she cut her long hair.  After she finds out the reason, Sarada grows it out and lets her mom brush it a hundred times before bed in an attempt to “impress Papa” when he gets home.

Disney Day (Schuyler Sisters x Reader ft. Hamilsquad)

A/N: I am stoked! This is my second request! I enjoyed writing this, and I hope it fits the request. I made it an x reader because I know a lot of people would love to have a Disney day with the sisters and Hamilsquad. I hope the anon that requested this, likes it!

Word Count: 5580

Warning: Cuteness and Silliness, you’ve been warned.

I had been friends with Schuyler Sisters for as long as I could remember. Our families were friends, so that kind of pushed us together. Despite this, we remained friends throughout the years. So receiving a call from them today wasn’t quite out of the ordinary.

“Hey, Angie,” I say, having a seat on my couch. I had nothing planned today, so I intended to watch reruns of Supernatural. I had a feeling my plans were about to change.

“Hello, (Y/N),” she says cheerfully. “You’re on speaker, my sisters can hear you by the way.”

“Hi, Eliza, hi Peggy! Anyway, what’s up, Ange?”

“Well…,”she drawls. “My sisters and I want you to come over to our place today. We’re binge watching Disney movies. You could stay the night!”

I chuckle. “Disney movies,” I scoff. “I’ll be there in, like, twenty.”

“See you then,” Angelica says, hanging up abruptly. I roll my eyes, laughing slightly. Wandering into my bedroom, I pick out a teal tank top, a pair of sweatpants, and sports bra. Then I head to the bathroom to wash up. I debate the pros and cons of putting on makeup before just deciding not to. I head out of the door and set off for the Schuyler’s house.

Once I get there, I take the spare key they had given me and I walk in. I expect to see the sisters sprawled out on the couch, but I am instead greeted by four men that I don’t know. One with a beanie sitting draped with his arm over the couch and the one with the curly ponytail sits opposite him. The other one, with dark hair, sits with his legs crossed in front of the couch and the last one, who has freckles all over his face, is sprawled out on the floor.

The one with freckles notices me first and gathers the attention of his friends. They all stare at me and I look back in confusion. Angelica walks in and notices our awkward staring match. She clicks her teeth.

“Stop being weird you guys,” she says walking over to me. She pulls me into a hug which I return and turns back to the guys. “This is (Y/N). She’s Eliza, Peggy, and I’s best friend.”

The four men nod in understanding. Angelica turns to me. “(N/N), these are some friends of ours. We met them a while back at a gala. So go ahead and pop a squat. This is your home too, you know.”

She walks out of the living room, probably going to retrieve her sisters. I glance at the men and, again, they are staring at me. I roll my eyes and plop into the chair by the door.

“If you’re gonna keep staring at me can I at least have your names,” I ask, throwing my legs over the arm of the chair. The one with the dark hair speaks first.

“I’m Alexander Hamilton,” he says. Then the others introduce themselves.

“I’m John Laurens,” the freckles one says.

“I’m Hercules Mulligan,” the one with the beanie says.

“And I am Marquis de Lafayette, but please call me Laf,” the last one says with a french accent. I smile.

“Cool,” I say. “So what are we watching?”

“Not sure yet, we were waiting for you,” Angelica says, reentering the room with her sisters in tow. I sit upright in the chair.

“Peggy, Eliza,” I exclaim. I hop up to hug them and while doing so, Angelica takes my seat. I pout at her. “Not cool, Angie.”

She shrugs. “Pick a movie.”

I slide over to their movie stand and grab four Disney movies.

“Okay so, I’ve got The Lion King, The Princess and the Frog, Aladdin, and Big Hero 6. I say we watch….Aladdin.”

“Why, Aladdin,” Alex argues. “The Lion King is clearly the best movie you named!”

“Here he goes,” Laf mumbles. Alex rolls his eyes.

“I’m just saying. Why watch a movie about a street rat who marries royalty when we can watch a totally uplifting tale about a lion cub coming into his own and growing up to rule the pride in place of his father. The Lion King is clearly superior.”

I gasp. The Schuylers groan. They know Aladdin is my favorite movie.

“I resent that! And besides, Aladdin is my favorite movie and I get to choose what we watch. So bite me, Alex,” I say, popping the movie into the DVD player. Everyone “oohs” while Alex rolls his eyes again. I lay on the floor beside John and he turns to me with a smirk on his face.

“I’ll bite you,” he says before bursting into laughter. The room joins in laughing and Eliza throws a pillow at him from her place between Laf and Herc.

“Don’t be crude!”

“Yeah,” Peggy says, laying herself on top of me. “(N/N) is mine.”

“Wait! I thought you liked me,” Hercules says jokingly. Peggy rolls her eyes playfully.

“(N/N) is much better, Herc. Sorry, dude.”

Angelica shushes us. “The movie is starting.”

We all quiet down as the opening scene for Aladdin starts. Peggy rolls off of me. When One Jump Ahead begins playing, Peggy and Laf dance around the room like idiots until Angelica throws popcorn at them. I, of course, know all of the words. Then, when A Whole New World starts, all the boys start to sing Aladdin’s part and the girls and I take over Jasmine’s part. Needless to say, we were having the time of our lives.

However, about a million Disney movies later, it’s around two o’clock in the morning. Alex and Herc are in a snoring pile on the floor. My back is against John’s chest and Peggy’s head is in my lap. Laf, Eliza, and Angelica are cuddled up on the couch. The only ones awake are Angelica, Eliza, and myself.

“I had fun tonight,” I whisper so as not to wake anyone. Eliza yawns, resting her head on Angelica’s shoulder.

“It sure was,” she says. Angelica nods in agreement.

“We should do it again,” I say shifting slightly in John’s arms. I get no verbal response. Only the light snores of the two sisters. I smile, closing eyes.

“I could get used to this.” I think as I drift off to sleep.

I saw Wonder Woman this past weekend, and I went in blind; I hadn't seen a trailer, only random gifs here on tumblr. Where has she been all my life? Why did I not find her earlier? Goddamn. I just really really liked the movie and want more

She was always my favorite DC hero because I didn’t have Black Widow growing up and it just fills me with so much joy that she’s finally a movie and her comics are amazing I have the whole thing of one set. I just ahh Gal is beautiful and perfect and Chris ughhh my bisexual heart can’t take it man!!

Favorite movie and why?

Hmmm i’m gonna say Mulan!! Mulan has always been a huge inspiration for me as a baby feminist I always believed she was so beautiful and powerful without the makeup and without the boy. When i was growing up I was always told i acted too much like a boy and i was always scolded for “boy like”
things, i always wanted to be like Mulan and kinda of erase the gender standards. I still hope to be able to do so to this day!

Autism in the media

The “Accountant” is one of my favorite movies. It’s not often that autism would be so accurately portrayed in the media and manage to be well done at the same time. Why am I so surprised? I mean I’m growing up in an decade where LGBT rights, mental illness, and disability are becoming accepted. When I was a very small child,  Autism Speaks released an documentary that was heavily criticized for showing autism in a negative light. A few months ago, I came across an episode of “Family Guy” where an religious figure has autism. That’s not the plot; it was an joke. An tasteless joke that was an reminder that the autistic community was the bane of society. Another cutaway gag showed an autistic screaming lady.

Lois: See Peter, it wasn’t so bad.

Peter: Yea, too bad I had to sit next to that screaming autistic lady.

(Peter sits next to lady rolling her neck back and forth in a wheel chair)

Lady: AHHHHH. (Rolls neck)

Peter (whimpers)

Lady: AHHH!! (rolls neck back and forth)

Peter( whimpers loudly)

Lady: AHHH!!!! (waves her arms back and forth)

Peter: AHH! I don’t know how to help you!

I don’t hate “Family Guy”. Some of the cutaway gags can be funny and gruesome. I don’t usually like the gruesome gags. This has to do with “The Accountant” because one of the complaints was that it was offensive to the autistic community.

Wait an minute, wasn’t there an film released by M.Night Shamaylan which featured an antagonist with multiple personality disorder? I believe it was called “Split”. it resulted in controversy because the antagonist had multiple personality disorder or MPD for short. The film might have been totally inaccurate, but it still showed that the individual did not have control over his personality changes. “In the Accountant”, the directors did the opposite by accurately portraying what it’s like to live with autism. In one scene, Christian Wolfe is shown to have an complete meltdown due to his senses being overwhelmed.

The music becomes louder, the light begins to flash faster, and his alarm clock starts to beep louder and louder. Finally, he snaps a wooden object on his legs, and every thing goes quiet. He throws his medication at the chair which results in total silence. He gives this look of remorse, as he picks up his medication from the chair. It’s clear that the producers have done their research on an controversial topic without making the individual with autism look like an ineffective stereotype.

When I was 9, my mom showed me a documentary about Temple Grandin. I didn’t understand how autism effected me, so when I saw the movie, I became scared when Temple started to speak really loudly. I didn’t understand why she acted oddly. After my mom tried to explain to me that autism was a neurological condition, I began to relax a bit. I don’t think my peers saw the movie, which was kind of a bummer because we need to eliminate the idea that autism is a joke.

The directors didn’t just write the character as someone who simply says, “I have autism”. They used research to work around the characters strengths and weaknesses. They wrote an effective backstory that showed how misguided parenting could lead to disaster which leads to violence. Autism has nothing to do with the violence. In fact, the whole movie is built around the protagonist trying to live an successful life while being autistic. The audience is meant to view the autism from his perspective.

Wolfe doesn’t understand the normal world. He’s struggling to thrive in an envoirment that is loud, too bright or obnoxious He doesn’t like it when people erase his work, that he made overnight. The opening scene acknowledges that he’s autistic by having an psychologist discuss the textbook definition of autism. The camera shows him freaking out over the fact he’s missing a piece. an individual having intense meltdowns is considered to be an symptom of autism. Other symptoms include lack of eye contact, or inappropriate behavior.

In the end of the movie, an similar pyschologist tells an family that his son might be autistic, but it will not limit his abilities as a human being.

Neurologist: 1 in 68 children in this country are diagnosed with a form of autism. But if you can put aside for a moment what your pediatrician and all the other NT’s have said about your son…

Autistic Boy’s Father: “NTs?”

Neurologist: Neuro-typicals. The rest of us. What if we’re wrong? What if we’ve been using the wrong tests to quantify intelligence in children with autism? Your son’s not less-than. He’s different. Now, your expectations for your son may change over time, they might include marriage, children, self-sufficiency. They might not. But I guarantee you, if we let the world set expectations for our children, they’ll start low, and they’ll stay there. And maybe… Just maybe… He doesn’t understand how to tell us. Or… we haven’t yet learned how to listen.

That is basically one of my favorite quotes because it summarizes that autistics can have the capability to blossom as successful adults. If we believe that autistic individuals can become responsibile adults, then we can have more inclusive roles in film.

Things that slay me about Descendents
  • Freaking Carlos and that pup

  • How Ben never judged Carlos for being scared of dogs
  • How even though Jay and Carlos were totally different, he never left him in the dust

  • Even though he seemed to be the more preferred one

    Evie and Mals friendship

  • How even when Ben found out what Mal did to him, he still gave her a chance because he knew she was still learning right from wrong

  • The parents being happy for the kids, even if they didn’t like their choice

  • Evie and the evil queen and how you can tell they genuinely loved each other

  • Jay just being Jay honestly
  • And Carlos being a smart ass
Thoughts on Spirit: Riding Free

On another note, I watched the Spirit Riding Free series earlier this week- just because Spirit 2002 was one of my favorite movies growing up as a kid but the minute I heard it was being made into a horse girl show “um what?” Also my friends and I were chatting about it, and 2/3 of us were cringing from the fact that Dreamworks could bastardize our childhood like that.

Since it only had six episodes (six episodes too many)- I decided, why not. If anything, there were a lot of conflicting feelings going on as I watched it. Like the show isn’t that bad, but it’s also not that good either. If anything, it reminds me of a modern day Horseland or an animated Saddle Club. But the fact that they had to label this to the masterpiece that was Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron it was kind of painful to watch.

One of the problems I had with this was that the show couldn’t seem to settle on what time period it was in. Does it take place in the 1800′s or modern day? The promotional art and the way the main characters dressed says modern day, but everything else is supposed to be old west kind of. Another is the fact that apparently this Spirit isn’t actually the Spirit from the movie, but his son or his descendant. And if that’s the case, why continue calling him Spirit? Why not just call him Spirit Jr. or give him a different name? If anything, this horse is nothing like the Spirit from 2002, especially just letting some random normal girl immediately tame him when it took Little Creek literally months to let him get on his back.

However, there were some plus sides to this show. The main characters aren’t too annoying- I’m sure they could have been worse. And the show could have gone the route where Spirit and the other horses could have been given unnecessary voices, but they didn’t, so that’s one way in keeping with the movie. The Appalooza episode was the best out of the six- with the main girls and the saddlemaker, Turo, having to save a horse from an abusive owner. It’s also nice to see that they didn’t make Turo the big, dumb friend, and same goes for not making Maricela the mean girl cliche who goes out of her way every episode to make the main characters feel like shit. I’m sure if I was eight and this came out, I would have adored it since I was into mlp and anything horse related at that time. And the best way to get through this show is to not associate it with Spirit 2002 and pretend the Spirit wannabe is a horse noway related to him.

And I know, it’s a show for little kids, but just because it’s for kids, doesn’t mean you have to dismiss the generation that grew up with the movie and give them something entirely different. I’m sure the show probably would have done fine on its own without having to ruin the Spirit name while doing so.

TL;DR: Spirit Riding Free is okay, definitely not a must watch show. Big issue is you had to bastardize one of my favorite movies as a kid so of course I’m gonna be salty about it. The show has its ups and downs. If you like Spirit and you like horse girl shows, then sure go ahead and watch it. But if you’re a fan of neither, then don’t waste your time.

Why Elsa is my favorite female character

Elsa is a misunderstood character, a character that people who feel misunderstood can relate to,Elsa is kind and compassionate, growing up Elsa had fear and doubts about her powers, she hides herself from the world shutting everyone out including her sister Anna which she regrets, it is later when she is in her ice palace up in the north mountains and towards the end of the movie, with help from Anna is when she is more confident with herself and the power that she possesses.  She loves and cares for her sister dearly, In frozen fever Elsa goes above and beyond for Anna’s birthday to make it up to Anna for shutting her out over the years. her elegance and intelligence is another great aspect of her character. Her ice power are amazing, and beautifully unique with the things she can create with her powers,  she is striking in her beauty, plus Idina Menzel does a great voice for Elsa.

This this right here is the reason why I consider this movie to be one of my favorite DC animated movies of all time. Because this is the scene where Diana finally realizes that the stuff she was taught about men on the island was an outdated ideology that has no place in modern times.

See a lot of people consider Wonder Woman to be a feminist icon yet the reality is her story is about as anti feminist as you can get. Because Diana grows up in a society ruled by women the only other man she knows before she meets Steve is Ares and she is taught from birth that all men are evil like Ares.

So when she gets a glimpse of the rest of the world she doesn’t know how to adapt to it at first because she wasn’t raised in a society that had men and women living together.

After Steve saves her from Ares she scolds him for not letting her die and stopping Ares and then she tells him that he would have acted differently if she was a man to which Steve gets rightfully pissed off and tells her that he saved her life because he cared about her and that having The Amazons cut off communication from the rest of the world was stupid because it only made things worse.

And I remember not too long ago when Meredith Finch and her husband David were announced as the creative team for Wonder Woman and feminists lost their shit when David said that he wouldn’t use the word feminist to describe the direction the book was gonna go in. Of course feminists lost their shit and started attacking him but it didn’t matter as he still stayed on the book.

Anyway TL DR: This movie’s great watch it when you have the chance.

Shipping Holtzbert, my own guide

I have read around here that someone was “inviting” to the Holtzbert’s fans to think about the real reasons for shipping them together. So, I did it.

First of all, I would like to say that I love the 80′s Ghostbusters a lot. I mean, I grow up with those movies. So, when I entered the cinema to watch Ghostbusters 2016, I had mixed feelings. But I LOVE this new movie about this new Ghostbusters team. I understand that people have their favorite characters and their favorite ships. And I respect that. That’s the point about things, everyone has different tastes and everyone of us can be a Ghostbusters fan.

Why am I a fan of Holtzbert?

One thing is for sure, it’s nothing to do with their body or the colour of their skin. During my life I have shipped very different kind of characters. So, no… it’s not about that.

So, why then?

Let’s take a look to Erin…

She’s around her 40′s and all her life she has wished to try to fit the “normal” society. We shouldn’t forget that she is a victim of school bullying. So when we first met her in the movie, she had “forgotten” who she really is because she thought it was the necessary to fit in a University as a scientist. She left her past, her friends, her real dreams, even if that’s painful for her… because she NEEDS to fit “in the normal society”. She even practices her classes to have the full control of the situation and the full control of herself.

But when the story continues, all her life gets completely out of control (in part “thanks” to Holtz) and we can see the real Erin Gilbert. She’s brave, she’s clever, she’s intelligent, she’s kind and she’s able to do anything for her friends (even jump beyond the barrier to save her best friend or fight against a ghost with a swiss army knife). At the end, she doesn’t care anymore to fit beacuse she has found herself. She doesn’t need the “normal” society. And yes, she fits with the Ghostbusters family.

Now, let’s take a look to Jillian Holtzmann

Holtzy is the weirdo. The biggest mistery and the stunning genious. At the beginning of the movie, you can think she really doesn’t care about fitting into the society. She’s friend with Abby, but she’s like an individual and solitary genious person. But when we finally discover her, we realise that she cares a lot for her friends. In my point of view, she treats Abby, Patty and even Kevin as they were her real family (without forget Dr. Rebecca Gorin) with Erin she’s different (but I will talk about this a little bit later)

We see that she doesn’t care for the authorities. When she met the mayor, she put her feet on the table like she always do in other circunstances. She’s funny, a genious, she is precise and perfectionist on her works, not only for impress the others but also for her own realization. She lives in her own little world but always caring of the people she loves.

So, when I take a look to Holtzbert….

They have complementary personalities. They’re like a puzzle formed by two big pieces who never have fitted until they met each other.  They’re the opposites that attract to each other since the very beginning. They are a mysterious for each other but they’re not afraid of going discovering such mysteries. They’re Ghostbusters! Jillian cares for Erin in multiple ways and Erin does the same for Jillian. Holtz does the fire-dance to her. In the first big mission, Holtzmann jokes with Erin and in the same mission when they’re with the rays she also applauded Erin’s efforts more than the others (I think because she knows she need it) She gave her a swiss army knife. When Erin explains to the team about her past, everyone feels pity for her, but Jillian acts different (she jokes and she winks her an eye showing her that she’s with her no matter what) The whole movie is full of scenes in which Jillian Holtzmann shows her attraction towards Erin (and I don’t count the deleted scenes that we’ll see in the Blu-ray, because the affection will go up level)
But Jillian is like that, in her “weird” behaviour, she is able to show such affection for Erin, because she’s very sure of herself, she is very sure of who is she and what is she and she’s not afraid to show that.
But if we change of person, we also can see that kind of affection from Erin to Jillian. Like I said before, she has passed her whole life trying to fit into the “normal”. She’s a lot more subtle, but you can see it. In my opinion, the Erin’s feelings for Holtzy are another thing that get out of control in her life since the beginning of the story to the end. So, she always tries to let see that she’s attracted by Kevin, because that should be “the normal” (she’s also possibly bi). But everything we see between Jillian and Erin is different than towards the rest of characters.

The four are better because they’re together, they work really well as a team. But Erin and Jillian makes each other braver and better. In some way, they get to change each other for good.

With that I’m not trying to convince anyone. If you have a different ship in the Ghostbusters universe, that’s great! Be yourself and ship what you want. I only felt necessary to give my own opinion. Because I ship them beyond their physique (and yes, I think they’re really beautiful). But for me, Holtzbert are soulmates. I don’t know if we’ll see more movies of Ghostbusters with this team (I beg whoever that we can see several movies with them but…), but after seeing this one movie, that’s my opinion. I love Patty and Abby and that has also nothing to do about their physique.
