this is the best part of the movie

For those who didn’t read the book:

•Mike Hanlon’s parents are alive and well and they had a REALLY FUCKING GOOD RELATIONSHIp. By not including this in the movie, they literally missed out on one of the best parts of the book ://

•Beverly Marsh had a mother, okay? She might not have been there all the time BUT SHE HAD A MOM.

•Stan Uris’ had parents and they were prEtty awesome. He had a good relationship with them both and was close with his dad. They bird watched together for God sake, how much more iconic can you get???

THE LOSERS DIDN’T ALL JUST HAVE SHITTY PARENTS OKAY?????

Thank you to @eddiekasp bc without her help this post would have been a mEss

Apparently the job of each Kingsman movie is to take an actor who is generally considered extremely attractive but who I absolutely don’t see the appeal of, put him in some nice clothes and make him fuck shit up in really cool ways, and thereby make him hot to me. The first one did it with Colin Firth, the second one with Pedro Pascal. That. Whip. Jesus. The lasso was already hot, and the revolvers were hot, but the whip gave me the rest. I am so easy.

Overall I enjoyed Kingsman 2 a lot. It’s maybe not quite as awesome as the first one, but still a lot of fun, lots of cool fight scenes, and the whole Kingsman/Statesman interactions are gold and frankly the best part. Could have done without the Obligatory Romance ™, but it didn’t ruin the movie. I am in denial about that one thing at the end and you’ll know what I mean when you see it. Actually I’m ignoring several things that happen at the end.

ALSO ROBO DOGS!!!! And ROBO ARM! And Elton John in THAT OUTFIT.  Merlin in a proper suit instead of the stuff they usually put him in. AND THE WHIP!

He showed great magical power from an early age and often got into mischief. Anakin received his letter three weeks after his eleventh birthday and immediately his mother took him to Diagon Alley to get his supplies. He was quickly sorted into Slytherin and excelled at his studies. In his second year, he met Padmé, a Hufflepuff in his year that he quickly developed a crush on. She gave him the nickname “Ani.” In fourth year, he met his friend, Obi-Wan and they remained friends for many years. After school Anakin married Padmé and then joined the Ministry’s Department of Magical Law Enforcement and joined the Order of Phoenix with Obi-Wan. But this didn’t last, soon he was corrupted by Voldemort and joined him on the ‘Dark Side’ becoming one of his most loyal Death Eaters. She was adept at Transfiguration and was a teacher’s pet to Professor McGonagall. She met Anakin in second year and quickly gave him the nickname “Ani.” About three years later she began to develop feelings for him. Her best friend was Obi-Wan, a fellow Hufflepuff about a year older than her. After school she married Anakin and became a healer at St. Mungo’s as well as being a member of the Order of Phoenix. She soon learned that she had become pregnant with Anakin’s children but did not tell him because he had turned to the ‘Dark Side’ and had joined Voldemort. She gave brith to twins, Luke and Leia.  Benjamin Obi-Wan Kenobi

-Blood Status: Pureblood

-House: Hufflepuff

-Best Class(es): Defense Against the Dark Arts

-Wand: Fourteen inches, Yew, Phoenix Feather

-Patronus: Field Mouse

-Quidditch: Bystander

-Bio: Born to two pureblood wizards and of the noble pureblood Kenobi family. He was the only born child and did not have any cousins or siblings. His parents raised him in a strict household where he was told that he should never become friends with half-bloods and especially not with muggleborns because he was the only way that the noble Kenobi bloodline was going to continue and his parents didn’t want their bloodline to be tainted by Half-bloods and muggleborns. He received his letter ten days before his eleventh birthday and was immediately sorted into Hufflepuff upon his arrival. There he met someone that would change his views on blood status, Padmé, his best friend. She showed him that half-bloods and muggleborns were not as bad as he was lead to believe and made him see that his parent’s beliefs were very prejudice and wrong. After Hogwarts he joined the Order of Phoenix and became an Auror. He was deeply hurt when Anakin turned to the “Dark Side,” but once he learned that Padmé was pregnant with Anakin’s children he made sure that he supported Padmé and helped her to raise the children. He never married and thus the noble Kenobi bloodline ended with him (or did it duh duh duh!!). Many of his friends called him by his middle name Obi-Wan and Padmé and Anakin’s children affectionately called him Uncle Obi.

When Grindelwald rose to power, Qui-Gon  tried to fight Grindelwald and his men but was killed in front of Obi-Wan by Grindelwald’s right hand man, Maul. Which scarred Obi-Wan for life and made him want to become an Auror even more. If just so that he could track down Qui-Gon’s killer. Strong Female Character Series

Chel

Chel from the Dreamworks film The Road to El Dorado is arguably the best character in the movie. When Miguel and Tulio try to dupe her village, El Dorado, into thinking they’re gods, she can see right through them. She confronts them to tell them she will help them in their scheme if she is part of the payment. They have no choice but to agree. Without Chel, the men’s plan would have failed almost immediately since they don’t know anything about the culture.

Another reason to love Chel is she is unapologetic in being herself. She shamelessly courts Tulio into a romantic relationship - instead of it having to be the other way around - and she is outspoken in her beliefs.

I think we can all agree that Chel is a great feminist character. What other fantastic characters are out there? Let me know! You can message me or leave an ask at @yesstrongwomen.

Underwatched Animated Films I Recommend You See at Least Once in Your Life

EDIT: i didn’t expect this post to get so many notes. for the record, these are just my personal recommendations, not a definitive list of best underrated animation. i also did not include anything made by Disney. I know that they made some movies that didn’t get as much attention as their other hits, but lists of underwatched Disney films are pretty common, so I thought I’d make one of films by studios that aren’t household names.

Angel’s Egg (1985)

This movie is a nearly silent film with painstakingly beautiful frames and environmental details. All I can say is that it is a real piece of art worth watching and can be watched on YouTube here.

Les Triplets de Belleville (The Triplets of Belleville) (2005)

An incredibly quirky, strange and humorous French film, also with almost no dialogue. The colors, creative storytelling, and almost caricature-like designs make the Triplets a must-see. The setting and timeframe is left sort of abstract, but it’s a clear transition from last-century rural France to the hustle and bustle of urban America. Lots of homage is paid to cartoons from the 1920s.

Mindgame (2004)

This movie, quite like the title says, blew my mind. It’s also incredibly strange and out-there, but the awkward imagery gives way to real emotion and huge payoff by the end. The colors and animation are delightful, and always tailored to the situation. It is an amazing intersection of an altered state, a love story, a struggle to get home, an existential trip, and an unlikely group of friends. I almost always cry when I watch this. Seriously, can’t stress this enough. There is absolutely nothing like Mindgame.

Le Chat du Rabbin (The Rabbi’s Cat) (2011)

Rabbi’s Cat is a French film based on a French comic by the same name. The comic artist also directed the movie. Honestly, the dialogue  in this is unmatched. Both Cat and Rabbi are witty and have the best banter. The setting is one of the most unique and real-feeling I’ve ever seen a film take place in: a Jewish community in Algeria. It’s wonderful and incredibly charming, could not recommend more.

Tekkonkinkreet (2006)

This movie hits me on a number of levels. I have so much love for the two orphans, Black and White. The story quickly becomes raw and almost difficult, as it touches on a lot of the feelings we see in things like Grave of the Fireflies, but in a much more abstract way and on a much grander scale. Also less sad, but there are very sad parts also. I guess the best way to describe this movie is intense. While there are a lot of sweet, domestic moments, none of the gruesome reality is sugercoated for you.

The visuals are all completely stunning; the art is on another level. Treasure Town is a rich, fantastical environment and the characters flow through it effortlessly, like water. You gotta see this at least once in your life.

Chico and Rita (2010)

An American/Spanish romance between an aspiring piano player and a young singer. The film opens in Cuba and has a vibrant and unique visual style while exploring a multitude of music styles and cultural backdrops. It’s touching and sweet, but does not erase the hardships of being a black music star in America or living through the Castro regime.

Wizards (1977)

Ralph Bakshi is notorious for underappreciated gems. Wizards is set in a post-apocalyptic fantasy world where magic is real and man has survived the radiation to evolve into fairies, elves, and dwarves. It’s a classic nature vs industry story with Bakshi’s unique spin. My favorite character is Necron 99, the assassin robot turned pacifist. I’ll warn you though, Bakshi films aren’t everyone’s taste (he’s responsible for Fritz the Cat, which against my better judgement I recommend as well).

Wizards was completed during the dark age of animation, and its fascinating to see how Bakshi gets around these limitations to produce something that grossed more than twice its budget.

Memories (1995)

Memories is a three part anthology based on three different manga short stories, Magnetic Rose, Stink Bomb, and Cannon Fodder. While the entirety of the movie is beautifully animated and worth the watch, the best of these is the first one. It is a mysterious, tragic sci-fi horror short film set in space and worked on by Satoshi Kon (so of course its amazing).

Okay so the new It movie takes place later in time than it did in the book; 1989. The creature wakes up every 27 years to feed, which means that part 2 is going to take place in late 2016. The sequel is going to take place at the exact same time as the 2016 clown epidemic. This is literally going to give the sequel one of the best horror movie contexts ever.

Most iconic moments from Beauty and the Beast (2017)
