George Harrison, while hitchhiking with Paul McCartney, late 1950’s. (Previously posted at thateventuality here.)

“One year, Paul and I decided to go hitchhiking. It’s something nobody would ever dream of these days. Firstly, you’d probably be mugged before you got through the Mersey Tunnel, and secondly everybody’s got cars and is already stuck in a traffic jam. I’d often gone with my family down South to Devon, to Exmouth, so Paul and I decided to go there first.

We didn’t have much money. We found bed-and-breakfast places to stay. We got to one town, and we were walking down a street and it was getting dark. We saw a woman and said, ‘Excuse me, do you know if there’s somewhere we could stay?’ She felt sorry for us and said, ‘My boy’s away, come and stay at my house.’ So she took us to hers - where we beat her, tied her up and robbed her of all her money! Only joking; she let us stay in her boy’s room and the next morning cooked us breakfast. She was really nice. I don’t know who she was - the Lone Ranger?

We continued along the South coast, towards Exmouth. Along the way we talked to a drunk in a pub who told us his name was Oxo Whitney. (He later appears in ‘A Spaniard in the Works.’ After we’d told John that story, he used the name. So much of John’s books is from funny things people told him.) Then we went on to Paignton. We still had hardly any money. We had a little stove, virtually just a tin with a lid. You poured a little meths into the bottom of it and it just about burned, not with any velocity. We had that, and little backpacks, and we’d stop at grocery shops. We’d buy Smedley’s spaghetti bolognese or spaghetti milanese. They were in striped tins: milanese was red stripes, bolognese was dark blue stripes. And Ambrosia creamed rice. We’d open a can, bend back the lid and hold the can over the stove to warm it up. That was what we lived on. We got to Paignton with no money to spare so we slept on the beach for the night. Somewhere we’d met two Salvation Army girls and they stayed with us and kept us warm for a while. But later it became cold and damp, and I remember being thankful when we decided that was enough and got up in the morning and started walking again. We went up through North Devon and got a ferry boat across to South Wales, because Paul had a relative who was a redcoat at Butlins at Pwllheli, so we thought we’d go there.

At Chepstow, we went to the police station and asked to stay in a cell. They said, ‘No, bugger off. You can go in the football grandstand, and tell the cocky watchman that we said it was OK.’ So we went and slept on a hard board bench. Bloody cold. We left there and hitchhiked on. Going north through Wales we got a ride on a truck. The trucks didn’t have a passenger seat in those days so I sat on the engine cover. Paul was sitting on the battery. He had on jeans with zippers on the back pockets and after a while he suddenly leapt up screaming. His zipper had connected the positive and negative end in the battery, got red hot and burnt a zipper mark across his arse.” - George Harrison, The Beatles Anthology [x]

Hey! I’ve never posted proper photos of myself on here before, but now I’m like, #yolo, even if just for today, so here we #golo

ADHD is…

Not being diagnosed in childhood, because you did “too well” in school

Spending your teens feeling stupid as all hell, because you struggle to meet deadlines and can’t quite understand concepts in subjects that don’t 100% capture your interest (math, u lil bitch, i am lookin @ u)

Having your executive dysfunction chalked up to “laziness” because if you’re smart, you “can’t” have ADHD, so you’re obviously just unmotivated and lazy. Except if you were unmotivated and lazy, you wouldn’t have high achievement, so like, check mate, bud?

Being told that ADHD isn’t a reason for your behavior, it’s an “excuse”, and that you should just “do better” despite your brain literally not being able to

Not being told you have it until you’re 18 and struggling to function like an adult

Having trouble driving because you can’t focus, having trouble sleeping because you can’t stay still, having trouble with chores because you never remember anything

Hyperfocusing on something so hard that suddenly it’s 6 AM and you’ve ruined your sleep schedule all over again

Suffering from loads of mental health issues, overcoming literally all of them, and having your executive dysfunction still blamed on them because people just??? really love????? to use mental illness and their ableism as a scapegoat?????? instead of trying to help, and recognizing that adhd is a permanent part of you?????????? like “are you sure you’re not just depressed” yes. thank you for your opinion even though i never asked for it, but I am actually very sure, good day to you too sweetie :) :)) :)))

Not being able to make yourself shut up when you’re speaking about something you’re passionate about. Having that problem in college lectures, and hearing a few people snicker each time you talk because you’re /that girl/ who /talks too much/ and has /too many opinions/ like gawd sorry for taking up space ffs

Finally having an explanation for some of your less-loved quirks, and knowing that you’re not just lazy or stupid

Finding a whole bunch of people who get it

Being able to do amazing things when you hyper focus, getting more done than most people because you actually can’t get distracted for once

Finding outlets for your energy very early on in life, and finding them to be your favorite things in the whole world (acting, dance, music)

Being able to multitask like a pro (and also having to multitask, because when you have the tv/radio/whatever on in the background, it’s a distraction you can control, which helps a lot)

Knowing a whole ton of totally random trivia about so many different things, and a bunch of information on a few select topics, to the point that people think you’re a student in those things (example - I’ve been very physically sick this year, I like to read medical journals, and when I went in to get a CT scan a few months ago, the tech asked me if I was a medical student because of how much I know about it all)

Having a huge amount of energy when you’re doing things you like, and feeling it exponentially grow, feeling like you can take on the world

Understanding that nothing’s wrong with you. You work differently than most people, and it makes life hard, but that’s because of the world, not because of you. It’s just how we are.

Best T&S Pics

So hey, I don’t know if I’ve every really publicized it, but I’ve made photo albums over the years of some of the best/my favorite pictures I’ve taken.  There are probably more I should add, but there are a lot here.  ;)  If you have any votes for ones I’m missing, let me know!

Best Tegan Pictures

Best Sara Pictures

Best Tee AND Ess Pictures

And also, randomly, a collection of all the pics I’ve ever taken (or at least, all the ones I can find) with T&S and other artists/politicians/friends.  :)

“[Salem] is probably one of my most favorite projects that I’ve ever done,” he told me. “Being a horror and fantasy fanatic and getting to basically play the hero in a world that we’ve created is another dream-come-true. So every season that has been written there has been just insane stuff that we’d be doing—whether it’s sexual, gore, or over-the-top scares, I’m happy as a pig in shit every day on this show. There’s always a new surprise.”

I know I already shared some “snake with flowers” pics earlier today but this… this is probably my favorite picture of Jorgen I’ve ever taken. Mostly because it’s got that soft diffused light and color scheme you’d see in one of those professional baby photos from a real studio except instead of an infant child posing prettily with some flower petals its a python.

I got the Illustrated Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone today!

It’s incredible, the illustrations in it are truly breath taking, and a few of them made me a little emotional.

I really wish I could take photos of every single page because it’s honestly incredible, but these are just a few of my (many) favorites.

It’s a really sturdy book with nice thick pages, a beautiful dust cover, and a crack proof spine. I got it at walmart for about $30.

Over all, it’s probably one of the best books I’ve ever owned. I highly recommend it.

This is probably one of my favorite cosplay photos ever, because I was just goofing around while my photographer (Vander Photography) was setting up, so it’s a wonderful mix of silliness and the beauty of the location. (I actually use the photo right after it on my cosplay cards).

This shoot was the one where I finally decided I had done enough on my Elsa cosplay after making and remaking it multiple times over the last 2 years, so there are a lot of happy memories mixed up in this photo.

I love this photo! You look so elegant even though you were just having fun!

I definitely know that feeling of finally deciding to shoot something that you’ve been working super hard on and that excitement and just feeling like you’re done and you are able to wear it and have fun!

Thank you so much for this submission! I love it <3

I can finally start posting some photos of my Evil Raven Queen from NYCC this year! I’m still waiting on a few shoots, so here’s what we have to start.

Felix Wong always takes awesome photos! He did a great job with these hall shots~

I’m really proad of how this costume turned out. It’s probably one of my favorites that I’ve ever done. Hopefully I can wear it again for an out of con shoot, or for another con. I can’t get enough photos of this! :D

Life’s been heavy lately and I haven’t been able to think straight the past week. Thursday at midnight, me & some of the greatest (and my most favorite) souls decided to spontaneously drive to Joshua tree. Five of us slept in the car (mind you, that was probably one of the most uncomfortable sleeping arrangements I’ve ever had to endure) and at 5:00 we woke up, smoked cigarettes, and drove through Joshua Tree while the sun was pink and rising. Anyway, this is me appreciating this damn beautiful place and the just as equally beautiful people I have in my life who go along with my passion for adventure and travel. This was exactly what I needed and my mind is still.

one of my favorite things to think about is how many pictures and videos of dan phil must have on his phone. he probably has an entire folder in his gallery dedicated to every picture he’s ever taken of taken, and another one of all the random videos he’s recorded over the years. and it’s all so dumb; snapshots of dan making dinner, recordings of phil telling dan a lame joke and dan reacting with an eye roll and a laugh, photos that phil took of the two of them cuddled up together in bed, dan sound asleep. and he has a third folder, where he puts all the selfies dan takes with his phone into, even the ones that are blurry or in bad lighting. so whenever phil is lonely, or sad, or somewhere that dan isn’t, he just opens up his gallery and sifts through hundreds of pictures and videos and he just finds himself smiling uncontrollably because dan makes him so happy and he’s so perfect and such a beautiful person. (also ugly selfies that he uses to blackmail dan later)

if you live in the Bay Area and haven’t checked out Coffee Shop in Walnut Creek, I’m thinking you probably should! My mama is the pastry chef there and makes delicious things like homemade pop tarts (AMAZING) and scones and cinnamon butter puffs and breakfast sandwiches. plus their Minted Cold Brew (in the last photo) is my favorite thing ever and I’ve had one every day since I got here. they make all their own syrups and get coffee from roasters/growers all over the world. it is a rad place full of rad people!

About July 19th 2016

Yesterday Benedict Cumberbatch, my favorite actor ever, and one of my favorite people in the world, turned 40 years old. Since midnight in UK (8pm BR time) both my feeds at Twitter and Tumblr were filled with loving birthday messages from pretty much everyone around the world, awesome pieces of fan art, memories of Ben’s best moments, photos, gifsets, etc. We even tried to make the #happybirthdaybenedict hashtag trend on Twitter. All of that for a man who isn’t on social media and would probably not see it.

Then, Batch of Kindness. It was so cool to see all kinds of acts, from money, clothes, food or blood donations to simple, small gestures to help somebody or to brighten their day. I did my part as well, for the first time, and it felt good. And it was all Benedict’s idea, who was grateful to recieve gifts from his fans, but thought it was better for us to help those who are less fortunate than him (or than ourselves, for that matter).

And then there was Cumberbatchweb’s annual campaign. Benedict had selected three refugees charities to which the fandom could donate in honor
of his birthday. (I must say I’m still gutted I couldn’t donate, which I wanted to do since last year, because my credit card was rejected for some reason, and isn’t in Brazil yet, but that’s not the point.) Things were doing really great, when an anonymous kind soul donated £ 11,000 to the campaign and until this moment it has collected over £ 22,000. How amazing is that? Each charity will recieve a little over £ 7,000 from the fandom.

What about the birthday boy himself? Benedict finished filming at 4:30am, but he had a room decorated for him, cupcakes and fireworks at night. And that’s only what we got to know, and I can only imagine the amount of love he recieved from his friends, co-workers, from his family.

It’s safe to say Benedict had a lovely day. But, then again, so did I. Never have I had so much fun on somebody else’s birthday, not even on my own birthdat. Yesterday was a normal day at work, but everytime I checked my Twitter I saw people sharing all their love for Benedict, and that was amazing! I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like this before.

Of course every fandom, wonderful as it may be, has its dark corners, and it was so unsurprising to see they were so bitter about the birthday of the man the claim to support… As you may know, Leslie Jones, Patty Tolan from the new Ghostbusters (amazing movie BTW, go watch it!) has left Twitter because of the amount of hate and offence she was getting lately, and she posted a series of tweets to illustrate her feelings, including this one:

“You have to hate yourself to put out that type of hate. I mean on my worst day I can’t think of this type of hate to put out.”

That’s just it. How much does one have to hate themselves to say such horrible things? On Benedict’s birthday, the nicest guy to talk in this world, who did nothing to deserve that, but lead his life as he see fit? The could have done an act of kindness, made someone smile, Benedict’s fans did yesterday. And look how they wasted their time…

What I mean is, yesterday was a special day to me because it made me realized not only how loved and cherished Benedict Cumberbatch is, but what an amazing and loving fanbase he has. I hope he knows it, but I suspect he does already. I do know now, and I feel proud and happy to be part of this.

I’d like to finish this long post by saying, I love Benedict Cumberbatch. E now, more than ever, I love the Cumbercollective. Thank you for the lovely July 19th you all gave me.
