this is not what i set out to draw

anonymous asked:

This will sound dumb but I'm having a lot of trouble with digital. I never know weather I want lineart to be solid black or if it should be done with a soft tool or a hard brush which is a huge pain in the butt. How does one figure out what would look best or what would be most comfortable to draw with (sorry for poor English)

i think it’s honestly just a bunch of experimenting and what you think is most comfortable for yourself! when i first drew digitally, i started off with very thin, solid lines, but after messing around with a bunch of different brush settings, i figured that i actually really liked drawing with a soft tool with a larger size instead. i’m not sure why, but it’s just what i ended up feeling most comfortable with? every now and then, i’ll still mess around with solid black lineart so that i can get better at it, but ultimately, i still love to draw with a softer tool, yknow?

also, your english is fine! ^__^ i feel like this answer is probably something that someone else has given you before, but nevertheless, i hope this helped you in some way and that you have fun with digital!

Reaction images on your dash

aaaaa i haven’t seen a post like this before so i figured i’d make my own? i hope a few people would find this useful cuz i don’t think everyone knows yet! anyway here we go:

Anything between 300-539 pixels width will be stretched to 540!

So 299 is the magic number to avoid tumblr blowing up your reaction images! What I also do is just set my canvas to 540 pixels and draw within that, if I think 299 pixels will be too small.

Of course, this trick only applies to the website and not the mobile app.

anonymous asked:

How would you go about making a bullet diary/journal??

So you wanna make a bullet journal?

The best part about bullet journals is that they’re completely customizable and thus unique to every individual! Here’s a general guide on how to go about doing just that. If you were looking for a short answer I’m sorry

1. The Bare Minimum

First and foremost, you’re gonna need a pen and a notebook. Some popular notebook choices here in the studyblr community include the Leuchtterm1917, the Moleskine, and the Muji notebook. I personally use the Leuchtterm for my bullet journal but one of my favourite places to get cheap and cute notebooks is the dollar store! When looking for a notebook you may also want to consider the ruling of the notebooks such as plain, dotted, and ruled. For pens, anything that works for you, works. You may want to consider something that flows well but doesn’t bleed through the paper. Honestly, that’s all you really need to start!

2. Decoration

The most fun part imo! Here, you can incorporate all the optional supplies you might want for your bujo such as washi tape, stickers, sticky notes, photographs, printed pictures, magazine cut outs, and more! You can also use a variety of mediums in it as well such as ink, marker, paint, pencil crayon, etc. When I started my bullet journal, I only decorated it by drawing in it and adding watercolour accents. I didn’t start including washi tape and printed photos until recently. But of course, you don’t even have to decorate yours if you don’t want to!

3. Set Up

So you’ve got everything you need to start, what now? Well, it’s up to you! Ask yourself what it is you want to get out of your bullet journal. There are a lot of things you can do with yours but what’s important is find out what works for you. If you feel you might not use an index or reference a key a lot, you don’t need to to have one! Personally, when I got mine, I went right into it and started my first weekly spread. Some common things people include in their’s are:

  • an index
    • keep track of your pages!
  • a key or legend
    • explain what symbols you use!
  • a year overview or future log
    • an effective way to plan out things way in advance!
  • monthly spreads
    • outline the events occuring in that month! often seen in the form of a calendar.
  • weekly spreads
    • keep track of daily tasks and events!
  • habit trackers
    • record various habits such as water intake, hours of sleep, meals, work outs, etc.
  • lists
    • pretty self explanatory. list books to read, songs you like, movies to watch, etc.
  • anything else that you might want!

What’s important is that your bullet journal works for you. Don’t feel as though you need something in yours just because you see someone else with it. As long as it’s something relevant and helpful to you, great!

Advice, Tips & Tricks

  1. Let go! Make mistakes! Learn! Grow! Don’t let blank pages in pretty notebooks restrict you, let it set your imagination free
  2. Try new things! Experimenting in your bujo can be so much fun and you might be surprised with what you create.
  3. You don’t have to make a spread every week or every day. Sometimes bullet journalling can be exhausting. That’s okay. Take care of yourself, friend.
  4. Plan things out in pencil first if formatting is something important to you.
  5. I know I’ve said this how many times already but because it really is important I’m saying it again! Do what works for you!! And what you actually want to do.

yo what did you do to your taz drawings to give them that delicious soft vellum look? bless u

merge all your layers, duplicate, put a gaussian blur on the top layer (the amount will vary with how big ur drawing is, but just make it so it looks all fuzzed out), then set the blurred layer to like 30-40% opacity!

YOI Future!Verse ABO AU - Clothing Set

#01 - Yasha Katsuki-Nikiforov

I think sometimes you can learn a lot about a person from their clothing choices, and I’ve always sorta wanted to make some fashion sets ^ ^ So I’m making one for the OC kids, starting with the eldest as usual, Yasha! (He’s probably pre-teen-ish around here, maybe, idk)

Yasha still more or less thinks of himself as a boy (when he can be bothered to think about it at all) but loves flowers, pastels, and anything soft and gentle (in harsh contrast to his blunt as a bludgeon personality). And most importantly, he kinda just really hates wearing pants and underwear, when he can get away with full nudity… He takes the young!Victor flower fairy aesthetic to the next level. He can be very picky about what he wears, and usually prefers expensive but relatively unknown specialty brands. His parents, especially Victor, are more than happy to indulge his tastes.

IF YOU ARE NEW TO THIS AU: It’s a Yuri!!! on Ice AU, Yuuri-centric with end-game polyamory in an ABO setting, Yuuri gets married to four mates (Victor, Yurio, Phichit, Minami) and they have OC kids.

This post features the Victor x Yuuri kid, Yasha.

Mrs Fluffybottom

Prompt:  omg bruh. Imagine Prinxiety where Virgil wants to make something for Roman, but gets super self conscious about it cause Roman’s CREATIVITY for petes sake, and of course it’ll look dumb in comparison to what Roman can make.  OH this is kinda sad but what if something accidentally happened to Ms. Fluffybottom and Roman is devastated, so Verge tries to stitch him a stuffed bunny? X’D ~ @this-is-ske

Pairing: Prinxiety (platonic or romantic)

cw: Self-loathing, negative self-talk, vivid imagery of a destroyed doll, cursing, headaches, mostly fluff

The absolute worst part about the whole mess was that Princey hadn’t even been angry

Anger, Virgil could’ve handled. If Roman had yelled, or raged at him, or otherwise reacted in the way Virgil had feared, he would at least have been expecting it. It would have made sense. Especially after all the pomp and circumstance with which he’d loaned the doll to Virgil in the first place–and the solemn promise he’d extracted from Virgil to take care good of her.

Not that he’d done it on purpose, of course. He was just…Anxiety. Ruining things was what he did

Sketchbook (Peter Parker Imagine)

Summary: Peter finds the reader’s sketchbook open on her desk.

Because I’m a sucker for this trope.

Words: 2k

“Y/N?” Peter called into your empty house, after having let himself in.

He wasn’t surprised when there was no reply. You had told him you might be a little late to your study night, as you had an errand to run for your aunt.

Nonetheless, you’d reminded him where the key was and assured him to let himself in and take whatever food he wanted from the fridge (“But don’t eat it all, Parker! I know you and your appetite, and I refuse to allow a repeat of last November!”)

He smiled, remembering your scolding, and grabbed a juice from the fridge before heading to your room to wait.

Concerning Dark Objects and How to Make Them

These are inspired by the series The Originals. Davina and Kol started making these cursed objects and I liked the concept so now it’s a real witchy thing! I don’t if anyone came up with these yet, but I’ve never seen them around so here ya go!

What are Dark Objects?

Dark objects are basically active enchanted items. Items which you have linked a spell to, and is activated by a trigger set in place by the caster.

Components of a Dark Object:

The Focus: The Focus is the item itself, so a necklace, a ring, or something like that. I personally really like using jewelry as Foci, but that’s just my aesthetic. You could literally use anything, I’ve used a spoon before.

The Source: The Source is the source of power that fuels the item. The simplest one would be to infuse the object with all the energy needed for the spell. You can play with the source to turn it into more of a trigger.

The Trigger: The Trigger is what, well, triggers the spell. I like using a movement, or a small rhyme, as it’s pretty easy, but you could make it so it’s activated when the object is broken, or when a certain person does a certain thing.

The Link: Related to the trigger, this component is optional. It allows to make the use of this item reserved to a certain person.

The Glyph: This is more of a personal thing, but I like to use a glyph with different geometry in it to relate to the spell itself. It helps to redirect the energy into the object, and to govern the energies better. Circles are used to indicate the flow of energy, and to contain energy. Squares are used to represent the four elements, as each corner represents one direction. Lines are used to link different components to each other (more on that in another post). Triangles are used to implement structure and strength to the enchantment. Spirals are used to direct the energy of the Purpose

The Purpose: Basically the herbs and objects you would use for the spell if you weren’t going to use it as a cursed object. I don’t reccomend poppets, or other types of representative magic, due to the fact that it could make a monkey’S paw effect take action, but anything else is good.

How to make a Dark Object:

Making these can take a little bit of planning, of course, but I personally think they’re worth it.

First you want to pick a Focus. I reccomend something related to the spell, and easy to carry with you. Then, decide on the spell you want to put into the Object. Gather your Purpose and make sure you have everything you need. Then you want to design the glyph, if you’re going to use one. I reccomend using one of my chalk recipes depending on what you want to do. You should also decide on what you want your trigger to be. I reccomend a rhyme, rubbing the object, destroying it, or doing a certain movement. You also want to set up anything that you’ll be able to draw power from, like candles, crystal elixirs, music, whatever helps you raise energy.

Trace your glyph out, and set everything up. Place your Purpose on the assigned spots of the glyph, or just throw them in a box. If you’re going to use the glyph, make sure the Purpose is placeed at the end of a spiral going towards the Focus or lines going towards it. If using a glyph, your candles should be used as Purpose, to send power to the Focus. Now, it’s time to start casting.

Write out a contract stating the trigger, and the overall intention of the spell using whichever alphabet you prefer. I like using Ogham or runes, but you can also use regular script. If using a Link, wrap it up in the contract, or smear your blood or the person’s blood unto the word. or phrase stating the trigger. If the Source isn’t physical or premeditated, state what it will be when you need to use the object, for example feelings, or entropic energy. Burn the contract and mix the ashes with water or a brew related to the spell. Anoint the object with the mixture. Now you want to raise energy and direct it into the object. Visualize the object sucking in all the energy of the purpose and the Source, if used. Chant the intention of use of the object, preferably rhyming, and visualizethe use of the object. Act as if you were casting a regular spell, but isntead of sending it into the world, send it into the object so it may act as a vessel.

Using the Dark Object:

You want to carry the object with you for when you use it, obviously. Use your trigger and state the target of the spell. Once cast, the object will probably feel different. Less charged, or lighter even. Once the object has been used, you can reenchant it with the same spell you used, or cleanse it in salt and moonlight for an entire night and use a different spell on it.

Depending on what Source you link to the dark object, for example your feelings, you could probably cast the spell as many times as the Source is powerful enough.

Ideas for Dark Objects:

A pendant used to suddenly make you extremely attractive to all around you.

A bracelet used during a test to remember the answers.

A ring to bring intense luck when gambling.

An earring rubbed to curse that one person who wronged you isntantly.

A knife with storms as Source used to cut the clouds and make the sun shine.

The possibilities are endless! Have fun with it :)

Holy crap this is 2 weeks overdue… whoops?

I totally underestimated the length of time it takes to draw a comic

But anyways you guys should totally check out the fic and the hc because I changed the comic a bit because drawing everything that happened was going to take even longer and doing so made this make more sense as a story by itself, so you should totally do that because the way the fic was set up was really funny and entertaining and theres some cool stuff that I missed, and there’s a lot of cool content that was made in response to the headcanon too if you haven’t already seen it!

Mapmaking Part 1

So you want to make a custom map! Pylon Bina here to lend their (hopeful) expertise on the matter.

Mapmaking is a great way to add physical context to your stories. Knowing where people are in relation to the world around them helps readers follow along the journey more accurately, ESPECIALLY if there are lots of events happening far away from each other. Tolkein’s books include maps to get you oriented around Middle Earth while multiple plotlines were happening, and C.S. Lewis had maps of Narnia and the surrounding countries so that “Calormen” and “Ettinmoor” weren’t just vague concepts to the reader.

Mapmaking is also a great mental exercise that brings together a lot of general knowledge, and will get you thinking about how your world works. By the end of mapping your world, you’ll have a much better grasp of your setting. Not to mention it’s an indispensable reference!

So, this tutorial will cover the all the different scales that you might need. Some of these are related and will be grouped together: world/region/country maps, and city/town maps. Since the tutorials are image-heavy, they won’t both be put together in this post, but linked separately.

Mapmaking Part 1a: Large-scale maps

Here we’ll go through the process of creating a large-scale map. All steps will be listed in order, but not all steps apply to the kind of map you want. For example, if you’re focusing on a country or province, skip the step about picking a map projection (unless your country is absolutely enormous).

This isn’t really a necessary step for the beginning, but it’s best to think about it early. What kind of look are you going for? An old, parchment-style map? Something sleek and as informative as possible? Is it a reference only for you, or would you include it with your published material? The maps I’ll use for the tutorial are the old-looking parchment ones.

If you’re drawing a world map, you might consider picking a map projection. This gives you a border to draw in and adds some realism to your map. There’s a wikipedia page on map projections to look at (HERE). There’s some crazy ones out there. I went with the Winkel-Tripel projection (fun fact, National Geographic uses this projection for their all-world maps).

Then decide: How many continents? Do you have a Pangea thing going on? Or do you have 5-6 major land masses like Earth does? Is it all islands?

This is the fun part and most creative part, really. Here you’ll choose the location and general shape of your borders/landmasses. They might be the continent’s coastal boundary, or it could be a political border. Keep in mind that political boundaries have way more regularities in them than coastal boundaries do (for example, the boundary between the US and Canada has a long smooth portion in it).

Choose your shapes. They can be super vague, just get the general idea down. Consider completely random objects for inspiration if you want more irregularly-shaped landmasses/countries. Lumpy horse head? Rooster tail? Saggy boot? Go nuts. Here I used a lumpy upside-down arrowhead shape.

Special note on political borders: A lot of the time, political boundaries follow meridians/parallels (resulting in a smooth border), or natural formations such as rivers and mountain ranges. Keep this in mind when drafting.

STEP 3 (optional): REFINE SHAPES

If you feel your shape isn’t distinct enough, take your time and refine it. Add notches, lumps, carve chunks out of the edges, anything you want, until you’re happy with the overall shape. For inspiration, look at a real-world map and look at just how irregular and weird some countries/continents are in their shape. Don’t be scared to make something crazy! I mean, look at the broken-ness of northern Canada. Or the intense squiggles of Greenland. The thin-ness of Chile. Lots of weird stuff irl to remind you just how flexible you can be.

Ahh, the fun part. And the part that might take the longest. Lining/inking! If you don’t have steady hands or worry about making smooth lines, don’t fret! Coastlines (and to a certain degree, political boundaries) are filled with some shaky random nonsense. To get a border that really feels real, embrace that randomness and don’t bother with a steady hand. I purposefully let my hand shake and twitch to get that proper randomness. Make sure that you enlarge your sketch to be properly big enough for your map.

Note how I deviated from my sketch all over the place. The sketch is really just to give you an idea. I encourage straying from it when you want more interesting borders. I also added some random islands nearby.

Before you put your cities down, you need to get the lay of the land. Are there mountains? Rivers? Lakes? Deserts? Forests? If you have a climate already planned, reflect that on your map. You can either include them on your final map, or have it in a sketch somewhere (or on an extra layer in your art program) just so you know. Reference real world maps for help.

To actually draw these things, check out their representations on real maps or fantasy maps. It might be sections of color, different textures, or you can get artsy and throw down some triangles for mountains, clustered circles/scribbles for forests, etc. Just so long as anyone looking at the map can easily tell what’s what. !!! Include a map key if you have to !!!

Consider this: Lots of land features work in tandem. Rivers can originate from mountains. Air currents mean a forest might be on one side of a mountain range but not on the other.  All rivers end in the ocean. All rivers flow downhill! Mountain ranges are BIG. Does a mountain range cut through multiple countries/continents?

Also consider: Do any land features make up a border to your country (if applicable?) Rivers are great for political boundaries.

This has been the first part of making a custom map; stay tuned for the second part (in which pylon Bina goes into adding the civilization part to your new landmasses) coming soon!

Summary: (Bucky POV) Nat tricks you into leading a road trip with Bucky, Sam and Steve. Her plot is partly to get the boys to travel for fun for once but mostly to get you and Bucky together. You and Bucky, who seemingly despise each other.

Warnings: swearing, super mild smoot (it’s not really even smut)

She barely speaks to anyone, only muttering a disgruntled, “Trunk, please” to Steve.

Once we’ve changed into dry clothes, Y/N tosses her now useless phone haphazardly into the trunk and grabs for her dated Atlas before slipping into the car without a word. She doesn’t move closer to me, she doesn’t look up from her Atlas. Goddamn it. She’s so upset. “Go left,” she instructs with a heavy sigh as she flips through the pages until she finds the map for South Dakota. She traces over an already marked road until it reaches the end of the page, before moving quickly over to Wyoming.

Illyrian Sunbathing

Inspired by this prompt by @modernbookfae If you want to read another absolutely hilarious fic about a similar scenario but with Elain and Cass I highly recommend checking out @illyrianazriel ‘s fic

His whole world narrows to the feel of her hands - steady and unexpectedly gentle – rubbing tight circles on the outer upper part of his wings. He clenches his hands around the armrests of the chair and closes his eyes trying to focus on his breathing and not the feel of her hands on him.
He debates explaining to Nesta exactly how sensitive Illyrian wings are but he knows that the realisation of what she is doing would horrify and embarrass Nesta so much that she would never speak to him again. So he braces his elbows on his thighs, lets his head hang forward and tries to find another way to get her to stop.

Read on AO3

Tags: wing sin, but Nesta is oblivious, and Cass is a mess,

Cassian walks into the townhouse and leaves his sword on the table in the main room, Azriel following close behind. This has become part of their everyday routine in the past couple of weeks. Every day, after dealing with whatever duties Rhys had assigned them, they go to the townhouse for an hour. Az started regularly training Elain with her new-found Shadowsinger abilities and the two struck up an unlikely friendship. They are thick as thieves, their shared ability helping them bond even more than they had during the war and they now started hanging out even outside of their training sessions.

Cassian, unlike Az, doesn’t actually have a reason for going to the townhouse every day – a fact which Nesta loves to point out – but while he is there, he often finds himself in the same room as Nesta, trying to get a reaction out of her while she blatantly ignores him and storms out of the room when he becomes too insufferable. Today is going to be different, though. The two Illyrians had both had the day off and they spent the morning sword training in the sun which put the both of them in an unusually good mood.

Azriel cancelled his training with Elain for the day and as soon as he enters the townhouse, he heads to the tiny garden where he knows he will find her. Cassian walks into the bright and open kitchen and pours himself a glass of lemonade from the pitcher on the island before walking outside to join Azriel and Elain. The two are in the corner, almost hidden from view by all the luxuriant vegetation. They are chatting and smiling contentedly and Azriel reaches and adjusts Elain’s gardening hat so it won’t fall over her eyes while she giggles. Cassian smiles softly at how happy they seem to be. He places his lemonade down on the small table before he sits down in the adjacent sunchair, spreading his wings and letting them drape over the sides of it. When he looks up he sees that Elain had raised a gloved and muddied hand in greeting, he grins and waves back at her before she returns to her gardening.

Cassian leans back in his chair, tilts his face up and closes his eyes for a moment, savouring the caress of the sun on his skin.

“Good morning.”

Cassian instantly knows who it is. If the cold expressionless voice wasn’t enough indication, the thread tugging on his ribs and making it nearly impossible for him not to turn around and face her confirms it. He turns and smirks at her.

“It’s lunchtime, sweetheart. Some people have been up since sunrise,” he says. He is trying to get a rise out of her, as usual. They had both warmed up to each other, their hostility slowly shifting into something else but this back and forth banter had still remained their routine.

She doesn’t react though, except for an almost imperceptible tightening of her lips. She isn’t in the mood for a verbal sparring match today, it seems. Perhaps the sunshine after two weeks of torrential downpours had been enough to thaw even Nesta’s ice a bit. She places her own glass of lemonade and a book on the small table and Cassian turns and faces towards the garden again, closing his eyes.

He hears Nesta shuffling around for a bit and the next thing he knows is that her hand is on the top of his outstretched wing. He yelps in shock and instantly snaps them tight against his back and leans forward in the chair, stunned and completely unable to form any words. Had no one warned her not to touch an Illyrian’s wings without permission? Had there not been an intrinsic part of him which prevented him from causing her any harm, she would have lost her hand in a fraction of a section.

She clucks and grabs the edge of his wing, pulling to open it and for a few moments he is too stunned and confused to resist and the only thing he manages to get out is a half-choked “What are you doing?”

      • Really turns into a leader. He just wants you found.

      • “They’ll be fine. They’re a fighter.”

      • Short temper.

      • Crying when he’s on his own.

      • When he initially finds out, he doesn’t really believe it.

      • He’s so used to you coming home from missions and greeting him with that big kiss, that you not coming home just seems a little … surreal.

      • He waits for you for a little while. The others are trying to tell him that you’re not coming back and that they need to start a rescue plan.

      • Once the denial is gone, the anger takes it place.

      • Like Shiro, he just loses control.

      • Keith’s anger is more aimed at himself, though, and he shows it through silence.

      • He literally just sits and plans the rescue, and don’t dare think for a minute that he didn’t try and leave the castle in the middle of the night because he thought the planning was useless.

      • He just wants you home. Hunk had to stop him before he could leave the ship.

      • “I’ve lost everyone. I can’t lose them. I won’t.

      • Not believing the promises the others give him when they assure him you’ll be coming home.

      • Punching random things.

      • For once, Lance is silent.

      • He doesn’t really know what to do with himself. Like ???? How can theu just be gone???

      • He’s surprisingly calm, although on the inside he is fReAkInG oUt.

      • He basically agrees to any suggestion anybody gives because he just wants to get out there and rescue you.

      • “You don’t look okay, man.”

      • “I’m fine!”

      • Him truly believing it was his fault. Like, with Shiro and Keith that’s just kind of expected because of their past, but Lance genuinelywalks around for days thinking he has killed the love of his life.

      • He tries to make people believe he is okay and still cracks jokes, but there’s a dullness to them that everybody picks up on.

      • Far away glances.

      • His smile fading when he thinks nobody is looking.

      • Promising to find you every night as if you can hear him.

      • He cries once when it gets too much for him.

      • He gets energetic. Not in a good way.

      • Like, it’s all adrenaline. As soon as the news is given to him that you were captured, he just gets jumpy.
