I worked at a craft store the summer before college. Here are my best (and the best of the worst) moments:
- A man bought 190 mason jars with lids. I asked him if this was for a wedding, or if he was making jam. He was doing neither. He did not have plans for mason jars. He just thought they were a really good sale.
- A woman bought her brother and his fiance a giant rainbow bow for their wedding present. She whispered that they had been married before, but that the fiance had dressed as a woman and they wanted to make it real now that it was legal. She shouted that rainbows are gay. Her style is unusual.
- A little girl left finger-painted handprints on the inside of the back pockets of the pants I was wearing. It was the most terrible case of “mistaken mother” I have ever experienced.
- A little girl came in looking for SWAPS for Girl Scout camp (pins you trade with other scouts at camp). She asked me if I could help her even though I am too old to be a Girl Scout. I showed her my lifetime membership card and the SWAPS on my keyring. She told me I am her best friend, and came back two weeks later with a SWAP she had saved for me from camp.
- A woman came through with wedding supplies for her granddaughter and a very nervous outlook on the price. I asked her what my name was, pretending to forget about my nametag, and when she got it right, pronounced her my good friend and gave her my friends-and-family discount. She cried. I might have too.
- A father bought his little boy a doll set. The boy told me that the last set had been for his friend, but he had liked it much more than she did, so he was getting his own. His baby sister was chewing on a monster truck. I liked this family.
- I became known as the cashier who would give you the discounts under my register if you were nice. The little old ladies who came in every yarn sale loved me. My coupons and I were their heroes.
- The substitute teacher who had bullied me came through my line and smugly told me that her total was wrong. I smiled politely and informed her that I had already given her the educator’s discount, but would happily take it off. She was much less smug after that, as her daughter laughed her out of the store.
- A large woman with a 5 o'clock shadow came through my line. I told her I liked her skirt. She responded with the biggest smile I have ever seen.
- And finally, my favorite one: a nine-year-old girl came up to my register with a stack of t-shirts and told me she had folded them for me, but could not reach where they belonged. I told her most people would have left them on the floor. She informed me that I was the cashier who helped her Girl Scout troop mate, and I quote: "dang it, you do good things for good people! I want to be a good people like you!“ and skipped out the door, before remembering her mother was still shopping and skipping right back in.
Is there a thing Hinata does that’s not epic? Quite frankly the answer is no. There are so many moments and I’m sure I’m gonna end up leaving out so many of them, but these are my favorites:
1. “I’m Hinata Shōyō, and I sprouted from the concrete. I’m going to beat you and go to the nationals”. My son literally takes no shit, especially from Ushijima Wakatoshi. I clapped SO HARD. (plus Kageyama reaction here is everything)
2. The match point against Aoba Johsai. Simply the most iconic point ever scored, I think not even the last point against Shiratorizawa has been that intense. Not to mention Hinata’s face right after, he wasn’t even incredulous, he was just…proud. :’)
3. The feint. The epicness of this moment is painted on everyone’s face, even on Bokuto who was actually the one who taught him that move. I just ADORE it with my whole self.
4. Spiderman Hinata. Who…actually…does….something like this??? and acts like nothing happened??? like he didn’t just jump off a wall like that??? WHAT THE HELL HINATA
5. When he intentionally spiked at Oikawa. The fact that he didn’t even looked at the ball once while doing it its probably even more epic than the spike itself and than the fact that he purposefully smashed the ball right beside him…literally the fist time he met him. That definitely set up the mood…
Description: Just glimpses in to Jughead and Reader’s relationship. Heavily based off of the song “Bad Things” by Camila Cabello and Machine gun Kelly because I’m a total slut for that bop
Warnings: SIN SIN SIN SIN SO MUCH SIN IM A SINNER, Swearing, implied smut, actual descriptive smut like guys this is kinda intense.
I DID IT OKAY I SINNED FOR Y’ALL
(Disclaimer: If you are uncomfortable with Jughead Jones smut then Do.Not.Read. This is literal actual smut intended for the Riverdale Tv Show version of Jughead Jones portrayed by Cole Sprouse, as all my other fics are. “Am I outta my head, am I outta my mind?
If you only knew the bad things I like.”
It was the little things about him that always had me craving him. The veins along his wrists, when his jaw was clenched. The little hints of curls that poked out of his gray beanie, almost as if they were begging to see the light of day. The frame of his body was probably my favorite part. I had never been attracted to buff men, particularly guys like my friend Archie Andrews. He was a whole different story though. He was tall and lean, almost comparing to the body of a track runner, but his body was still toned in all of the right places, and he was certainly strong enough to carry me up my stairs to my bedroom.
Jughead Jones made me think the most sinful things, and I couldn’t ever stop. I’m just lucky that the feeling is mutual.
“Y/n?Did you just hear a thing I said?” My best friend Veronica looked at me expectantly, her eyebrows raised and looking frustrated with me. Truthfully, I hadn’t heard a thing she said. I was too busy focusing my attention on something more…interesting.
Jughead Jones had started out as a friend. That’s how they all did, right? We had four classes together, and mutual friends, so of course, we grew incredibly close over time.Eventually, it became something more
The boy stared back at me, his blue eyes piercing through mine and in to my head, almost reading my thoughts. I saw as he mouthed a simple word “tonight” and I gave him a slight nod, biting my lip in response.
“Sorry V, she’s too focused on her loverboy.” Archie taunted me, passing by us and to his friend, knocking shoulders with him. Jughead blushed slightly, not moving from his position on the lockers, his arms crossed over him. I could fix that.
I strutted over, my hips moving a little more than they usually do. Jughead uncrossed his arms and they immediately went to my waist once I reached him, pulling me in to his body that was still against the lockers. I leaned up, pressing my lips to his quickly before the bell rang.
I broke apart from my boyfriend, my hand sliding down his shirt slowly. I pulled away, winking at him before strutting off. I didn’t even have to turn around to know his eyes were on me, watching my every step.
“No matter what you say,
no matter what you do,
I only wanna do bad things to you.”
Jughead and I had been together for a good six months before we got in to our first fight. He always had his nose shoved in to his laptop, and I got no attention from him anymore, and I was angry. I had waited a while for him to notice, and he never did, so I took matters in to my own hands.
My boyfriend sat at a stool in my kitchen, his hands in his hair and his laptop in front of him, His beanie long forgotten on the counter. If I wasn’t so pissed at him, I might have offered to release some of that tension, but I wasn’t in a giving mood that day.
I slammed the laptop shut, my eyes glaring at him. Jughead looked up at me with a confused look.
“Forsythe, do you remember why I invited you over?” I asked him, my eyebrow cocked while I waited to his answer. His mouth opened slightly, trying to string together something and drawing up a blank. I scoffed, shaking my head and walking away.
“Baby, wait-” Jughead hopped off the stool, following me out of the room.
“Jughead, I asked you to come over because I wanted to spend time with you!! Not so I could watch you on your laptop the whole time! I just want some of you to myself!is that too much?”
“You know how important this novel is to me, y/n-”
“ I know that! But I should be more important!” I shouted. I didn’t care if I sounded selfish. I was pissed.
“ Of course you’re more important! What kind of question is that?!” Jughead looked at me like I was ridiculous and I shook my head.
“Really? Because sometimes it feels like you would choose that book over me if it came down to it.” I crossed my arms, my foot tapping against the hardwood floor. Jughead’s face fell, and the anger on his face was replaced with a sad look.
“That is not true, that is not true at all, I would always choose you.” Jughead closed the gap between us, his arms wrapping around my waist. I pushed him away slightly, my hands on his chest.
“Prove it.” I spoke bravely, my tone of voice becoming different.
Everything happened relatively quickly from there.Jughead’s hands went around my back, lifting me so my legs were wrapped around his waist, and his fingers wrapping around the backs of my thighs. His mouth was on mine and I felt my back hit the wall. Jughead’s lips went to my neck, sucking harshly at the skin until purple bruises adorned it. My hands went to his sweater, almost ripping the fabric just to get it off of him.
“ My room,” I panted, my hands tangled in Jughead’s hair while he sucked harshly at the collarbone peeking out of my tank top. He adjusted my body that was wrapped around his before making his way to the stairs, carrying me up them. I felt my back hit my mattress and Jughead was on top of me, his legs on either side of my waist and his hands already under my shirt. His had already been tossed over a chair in my room.
I flipped us over so I was on top, grinding my lower body in to his. Jughead let out a low groan, his head tilting upwards at the contact. My hands made quick work unbuckling his belt, pulling it off of him quickly and unbuttoning his jeans. Jughead looked at me impressed.
“No matter how many times you do that, I’m still pretty shocked at your skillwork.” Jughead’s arms went behind his head, a smirk now on his face.
“Don’t get too comfortable.” I taunted, my hands going behind my back.
I unclasped my bra, tossing it across my room somewhere. Jughead sat up quickly, his mouth already on my chest, littering my body with hickeys. He flipped us over again so he was in control, and pressed open mouth kisses down my stomach to my hips, his fingers curling under my sweatpants and dragging the waistband down and off of me. My breath hitched in my throat when I felt his lips on my thigh, leaving light little kisses up them until his mouth was over the fabric of my underwear. My back arched off the mattress at the feeling, my fingers gripping the sheets until my knuckles turned white. Jughead hooked two of his digits in to the side of my underwear, pulling them slowly down my thighs.
“Jug… Jug please.” I begged, not really in the mood to take things slow. Jughead pulled the fabric down the rest of my legs, and they went flinging in an unknown direction of the bedroom.Jughead’s head dipped down, and I was breathing intensely, my hands going to his hair and tangling in to the strands, gripping tightly.
“We’re both wild, and the nights young, and you’re my drug.”
Parties weren’t Jughead’s thing, but Cheryl was in fact now a part of our gang, and it was only fair to at least make an appearance. So, on Saturday night, I was getting dressed and ready to go to her party. I wore a simple blue dress a gold belt with a bow around my waist, and some black ankle boots. Veronica and Betty laid on my bed, chatting amongst the two of them while I finished my makeup. I was finishing my lipstick when Archie and Jughead walked in to my door, both of them surprisingly having smiles on their faces.
Jughead made his way towards me immediately, pressing a kiss to my temple and standing behind me, his arms wrapping loosely around my shoulders. I looked at him through my vanity mirror, blowing a kiss at him, and he blushed and rolled his eyes.
“Are you almost ready y/n?” Betty sighed exasperatedly. She say up from the bed, smoothing out her romper, and Veronica wrapped her an arm around her waist, leaning her head against her girlfriends shoulder
“Oh, Bets, let the poor girl take her time. It’s always classier to be fashionably late.” Veronica pressed a kiss to the shell of Betty’s ear and her face went red.
We arrived on time to the party and everyone split up, Betty and Veronica dancing, Archie talking to Valerie, and my back to Jughead’s chest as we sunk in to a corner of the room, to have some privacy. His arms were around my waist, holding my tightly to his body while he pressed kisses to my neck, whispering incredibly sinful things about what he would be doing to me right this minute had we not been at Cheryl’s house.
I know that Jughead would have rather been at my house tonight, cuddled in to each other on my couch watching a movie, or just talking and being in each other’s presence, or even trying out some of the things he had been whispering to me. I felt a little sympathetic for him, but I knew just the way to cheer him up.
I turned around, my hands slipping in to his, and I pulled him towards the middle of the room. An upbeat song was playing and everybody was dancing and jumping around. Jughead huffed, not wanting to go, but I knew he wouldn’t resist if I tried hard enough.
I finally got him to the middle of the room, my hands lacing with his, my back pressed against his chest as my hips swayed back and forth to the music. I could feel Jughead was tense, so I gave him a little incentive by pushing my lower body in to his slightly, and I heard his breath shudder a bit before he was moving his body against mine and his lips were on my neck.
“we should go back to your place."Jughead whispered, his lips brushing against my skin. I tilted my neck so he could have easier access, taking his hands in mine and running them down the sides of my body. With the way his body was moving against mine, and all the things he had been sharing with me earlier, it would be an understatement to say I was worked up. I grabbed his hand again, weaving through the crowds and shouting a goodbye to Betty and Veronica before starting the trek to my house. Jughead and I walked hand in hand, slowing down every once in a while to kiss each other.
"When we get home, you’re in for it.”
“Oh, I know.”
“And you keep me in with those hips, while my teeth sink in those lips, while your body’s giving me life, and you suffocate in my kiss.”
“Fuck, Forsythe.” I hissed, my nails digging in to his back. My hips moved slowly down on to his length, my fingers moving up his back and in to his hair. His hands were wrapped around my body, his lips biting harshly at my shoulder. When I felt my body adjust to him, I rose my hips before sinking back down on to him again.Jughead captured my lips with his, his teeth biting gently in to my bottom lip. We lazily kissed as I moved up and down slowly, my walls tightening around him slightly. Jughead held me as close to his body as he could, our chests pressed together.
I was on cloud 9 every time I was intimate with Jug. Everything about him was breath taking, and he was so beautiful when he was like this: his lips slightly parted, his curly hair matted down and sticking to his forehead, and his body shining from the warmth of our bodies colliding.
I started to move my hips a little faster, grinding down on to Jughead’s hips. Jughead buried his face in to the crook of my neck, and his arms wrapped around me even tighter, if that was possible. I used whatever energy I had left to move my hips faster, bringing Jughead and I both to the edge. I could feel the warmth in the pit of my stomach, warning me that I was close.
“I know, baby.” Jughead began to meet his hips with mine on every thrust, one arm unwrapping from around my body to press the pad of his finger to my clit. I gasped at the sensation, my nails scratching against his back harder.
“Shit, shit, I-I’m-” I cut myself off, not having enough breath to finish my sentence. I felt my stomach tighten and then I was cumming on Jughead’s dick, a quiet moan escaping my lips. I kept thrusting against him, riding out my high while he chases his, soon I was being hit with overstimulation, but I powered through it, bouncing against Jughead as fast as I could.
“Fuck, fuck, shit, I’m gonna-” strings of curse words escaped Jughead’s lips as he flipped us over, pounding in to me as hard as he could. His lips went around on of my nipples, sucking harshly, and his fingers rubbed quickly and forcefully against my clit, drawing out another orgasm from me.
Before I knew it, I was cumming again, this time Jughead following as he came inside me. Jughead’s body collapsed on top of mine, not before pulling out of me slowly. My hands tangled themselves in his hair and his arms went back around my body, his head laying against my chest. I could feel his heart race against my own beating heart, and I looked down at my beautiful boyfriend, as I smiled. He was all mine.
“The way we love, is so unique, and when we touch, I’m shivering.”
I woke up to the light shining from my bedroom window, the rays of sun peeking through my curtains and casting rays of light along the sleeping bodies of Jughead and I. The night before had been our one year anniversary, and he “spent the night”, Which resulted in to this morning, the both of us naked in my bed.
Jughead was already awake, his fingers tracing along my arms.Goosebumps ran along my skin at the feeling of his touch, leaning up to give him a kiss.
“Good morning, sunshine.” Jughead mumbled against my lips. I giggled as his fingers went to my sides, tickling me the slightest bit.
“Good morning, handsome.” I smiled down at him, my eyes practically in the shapes of hearts. I loved this boy to death. He was the most perfect thing I had ever found in this world.
“How are you feeling?” He asked me, his fingers stopping so his arms could wrap around my back. He pulled our bodies tighter together.
“I’m great.” I told him, leaning down to press a kiss to the tip of his nose. Jughead’s face scrunched up slightly and I giggle again, my hands cupping his cheeks.
“I love you, so much. So, so, soso much.” I started pressing kisses all over his face and I felt it scrunch up again before catching my lips with his. Jughead wasn’t a super affectionate person in public, so I loved these moments I had with him, hidden away under my covers, where it was just the two of us.
“And no one has to get it, just you and me.”
“I swear to god, you two are the most sickeningly cute couple in..in… In god knows what!” Veronica threw her hands up dramatically before slamming them down on to the table at the booth. She looked at the two of us, who sat across from each other. Jughead and I didn’t break our eye contact, still looking at each other and smiling brightly.
“Come on, V.It’s cute. They’re cute.” Betty defended, sitting across from her girlfriend.
I know, but look at them! All they do is stare at each other like its the morning after their first time.“ Veronica scoffed before pausing for a second. Her mouth opened in shock before she whispered loudly.
"You guys fucked!” Jughead and I broke apart at that, looking at Veronica with wide eyes. I was about to shake my head when Jughead interrupted.
“We’ve been fucking, V. Catch up.” Ronnie and Betty’s mouth fell open simultaneously at the confidence in Jughead’s voice. He leaned back in the booth and turned his attention back to me, cheekily winking at me. My cheeks grew hot as I looked back at my best friends, mouths still open in shock.
“You guys, you, you’re-” Ronnie stammered, looking back and forth at each other. Jughead and I started laughing at Ronnie’s reaction, and she sputtered.
“I don’t get your relationship. I seriously don’t.” Ronnie slumped in her seat, her chin resting in the palm of her hand.
“Cheer up, V. It’s y/n and Jughead. Nobody gets it except them.” Jughead and I had already tuned out Betty though, our attention going back to each other. Nobody had to understand our relationship, because it wasn’t theirs. It was ours, And it was perfect.
My favorite character development by far is Justin Foley, oh my god.
Because it’s almost like he never really developed, the show just gradually takes piece by piece of his mask off. This little boy that focuses on sports, substance abuse and bullying is honestly just very scared and very fragile and very unhappy. He treats his girlfriend like she’s the most angelic person to ever grace the planet. His mom is a substance abuser that doesn’t care about him. He is really just really scared and he feels so alone and the only thing he feels like he has is the pseudo validation that comes from a rapist and his friends. But he clings to it because that’s all he feels like he has. He’ll do anything for it because he feels like /that’s all he has/.
I don’t know where you’re gonna go in life Justin Foley but I really hope things turn out for the better for you. You really were doing what you thought was right.
He didn’t ask, but Cassian rarely did, but she knew that
look meant he was curious. “I’ve only been reading for less than a year, every
so often a word trips me up and today I am just too lazy to go look it up.”
Cassian looked at her, with what she could best describe as
shock, “Tamlin taught you how to read?”
She couldn’t hold back her laughter, “Cauldron no, Rhys
He chuckled before he said, “You poor thing, did he make you
write those stupid sentences too? Those
were the worst. Rhysand is this, Rhysand is that, I wanted to kill him.”
In her best Rhys voice, “Rhysand
is the most cunning High Lord, or my all-time favorite, Rhysand is the best lover a female can ever
“Well Rhys has always been a prick, mine were more along the
lines of Rhysand is the best fighter.”
She shows him the word colonel.
“In all fairness that word does not follow any pronunciation
rules, it is pronounced kernel.”
At dinner that night Cassian couldn’t help himself, “Could
Rhysand the best lover a female could ever dream of, pass the potatoes?”
I LOVE THEIR FRIENDSHIP! They’re brotp goals, prepare for trouble and make it double, everything they do together is my favorite thing they do but let’s see:
1. Tanaka crying over Nishinoya’s bruises. This is always the first scene that comes to my mind when I think about them, mostly because I relate to Tanaka on a spiritual level. Nishinoya actually makes Tanaka cry over how badass and selfless that he is. Plus notice that here Tanaka calls him Noya-san, despite being not only from the same year, but being his best friend too. He respects him…so much. I cry too every time
2. Every time Tanaka lifts Nishinoya up. I adore the fact that they’re so physical and affectionate with each other. Out of all the boys, they’re the two that hug, touch and lean on the most. Plus this thing where Noya let’s Tanaka do all kind of things with his body gives me life. And the lifting thing is for sure my favorite one.
3. When they almost killed Tsukishima after his insane block. They have a thing for harassing him in general, but here they were just the most proud. Noya and Tanaka were the first of the team to go cheer on him after he did what’s probably the most iconic block of the Haikyuu history. And this shows that they do are the greatest dork that the world has ever seen, but they are the most supportive teammates ever too, always there and ready to acknowledge every single good thing and picking them up when they’re down. They just…show their affection in their own way, sometimes hitting, sometimes eating people alive too
4. Their special cheering dance. Precious both in anime and in real life
my band swag arrived safely from inter-dimensional customs :B
(aka @stanchez-sloppy-seconds is amazing and not only oldschool hand-bleached and dyed this dope freakin chicken nuggets shirt, but also made me a package brimming full of in-universe goodies including a signed polaroid and a legit mix cd)
I could not tell you how many times a day I wonder where you are, what you’re doing and if you’re happy…
My favorite thing to do is imagine where you could be or what you could be doing at that time of day based on your old routine.
But I’m not part of your life anymore and your routine has most likely changed. Your whole life is probably different… You could be a completely different person now and I wouldn’t know.
Time moves forward and people change… people move forward as the times change… and everyone is living in the ever changing present.
Everyone except me.
I’m still here, in the past… loving the old you…
i’ve been getting a lot of messages lately (and unsurprisingly, considering how unrepentantly i’ve been reblogging stuff from them) from followers asking me for podcast recommendations - and i love getting those so thank you, guys! - and i thought i’d make a masterpost of what i’ve both a) finished and b) enjoyed since i’ve started bingeing them. and, as an extra added bonus, what has canonical lgbt+ representation (since i know what you guys are into [waggles eyebrows]).
canon lgbt+ is a ✓. this is definitely the first podcast that i’ve fallen in love with as hard as my original gateway podcast: welcome to night vale. it’s so well-written, the characters well-drawn, the premise fascinating - atypicals, or people with some sort of special ability, in therapy - and it’s such a positive story and experience that i can’t help but feel better on days i listen to it. it really believes in humanity and that’s such a wonderful thing in this day and age. plus, the voice acting is killer.
canon lgbt+ is a ✓. i don’t think it’s been officially confirmed that dr. dalias is, at the very least, bisexual (in fact, the official channels seem to be dancing around it, possibly so as not to spoil anything in the upcoming season), though it’s been hinted at plenty in story. especially as i don’t know how else you can explain a supposedly “straight” male character getting called out on repeatedly thinking about a naked man during a group mind-link experience. that aside, it is freaking hilarious. the premise is doctors in space, one formerly drug-addicted doctor helping to stabilize a currently alcoholic one with amazing side characters including nurse jane johns and levi, a hypochondriac alien and deposed prince who seems to have a personal vendetta against wearing pants. it’s well-acted, cleverly written and a freaking joy to listen too. so funny and so smart, i can’t recommend it enough!
canon lgbt+ is a ✓. so much queer representation it’s bananas. this ask the creators got is actually pretty representative of their approach to the show, slyly funny and very gay. our main character is a genderbending queer private investigator who’s lost his heart head over a sweet-smelling thief with a heart of gold and more aliases than jennifer garner, all set against a noir backdrop. oh, and on mars. yeah, you read all of that right. there are a few awesome side stories as well, including a couple of horror ones (that have no effect on the main juno steel story line, so can be skipped - and the creators are VERY GOOD about warning what’s to come in the episode notes), as well as lesbian outlaws and a disabled knight. there’s literally nothing not to love. EXCEPT FOR HOW JUNO STEEL WON’T LET HIMSELF HAVE NICE THINGS.
hey, hi, if you’re into horror, suspense, creepery or demons, this is so very much for you. the premise is that alex reagan, our host, begins a podcast to interview people with interesting professions. she starts out with dr. richard strand, a paranormal investigator whose mission statement is to debunk all things paranormal. he even has an institute that offers a one million dollar prize for proof of the paranormal, which he has never even come close to having to part with. while alex is interviewing him, she comes across a handful of black vhs tapes: the only cases that strand hasn’t been able to definitively solve yet. the technology to disprove these incidents simply hasn’t come far enough, in his opinion. needless to say, she never moves on from dr. strand and the mystery of the black tapes. each episode, alex investigates another of the black tapes and much later on realizes it’s possible that they’re all connected. oh my god, i almost got chills just writing that, it’s so good, it’s so real, because dr. strand is such a good anchor to reality. alex will occasionally lose her skeptic’s perspective; dr. strand does not. and once alex starts experiencing intense insomnia, making you realize your narrator might not be so reliable? things somehow manage to get even murkier. i really, really adored this one. it’s paranormal set in the most normal of normal worlds, only making it that much spookier.
canon lgbt+ is a ✓. okay, well, if you’ve ever watched black books? this is kind of like black books, aka one of my all-time favorite shows. rudyard funn is just as incapable and universally disliked as bernard black, which was all well and good when the village of piffling vale (which is very nearly a town, you know!) only had one funeral home to choose from. unfortunately, that’s not the case anymore. eric chapman has moved his funeral home right across the street and stolen all the business from rudyard, his embalmer (cum part-owner) and twin sister, antigone, and georgie, their assistant. to add insult to injury, he’s charming and universally adored by everyone except those at funn funerals. very british, very ridiculous, and very funny! WE GET THE BODY IN THE COFFIN IN THE GROUND ON TIME. (well, like that one time they did. [coughs])
canon lgbt+ is a ✓. i listened to this one pretty slowly, for me. it’s very much plot over character, at least in my opinion. which is fair since there’s quite a lot of plot and set dressing to establish. we’re following (dr.) sally grissom, a scientist from the twenty-first century who accidentally creates time travel and ends up stuck back in the 1940s. think a bombs and eisenhower. it was always interesting, and the paradoxes created by the time travel experiments they kept doing were fascinating (i love time travel stuff because of the paradoxes it creates) but i didn’t get really ravenous for it until season two, which is when i really felt it picked up speed. you’ve got anthony stuck in a literal CAGE - a “blackroom” bubble set outside of time, sally trying to garden (oh god), a gang consisting of a veteran, a (former) widow and time doubles trying to bring down ODAR (the company sally used to work for, and that anthony still does) and esther sliding down the ladder of morally unsound one determined rung at a time and it makes for a REALLY grabbing audio drama, eh?
canon lgbt+ is a ✓. i’m already in love with violet liu, all right? she’s a science officer on starship iris–well, what was starship iris. when we first join violet, every single one of her crew mates has just died in an explosion on the pod they were traveling off ship with and the starship iris is in its last throes as well. luckily(?) a passing ship comes along with a plan to get her to safety. this has a real illuminae vibe to it (which is an amazing book btw) and all the characters are already so freaking likable. it’s only on episode two and already shaping up to be a favorite!
canon lgbt+ is a ✓. if there’s a more heart-warming podcast out there, then i haven’t run across it yet. first of all, julian koster’s voice is so vulnerable and soft that i would use myself and everyone i know and also puppies as a shield against everything terrible in the universe for him. second, the rest of the cast - leticia especially - is just as freaking talented. the premise is that julian is the janitor at a radio show that broadcasts from the top of the eiffel tower and has strange and impossible acts every night, from tale-telling crickets to singing saws to the orkestral, a bird that can play every orchestral instrument (except that it refuses to play the viola, because reasons). it’s fun and cute and breaks your heart with happiness regularly and often!
canon lgbt+ is a ✓. this is a horror podcast about a truck driver who is looking for her missing wife. jasika nicole has to have one of my favorite voices around and having it be so heavily dependent on that makes me ridiculously happy. throw in the story-telling of joseph fink, the depth and cohesiveness of his writing, and there is nothing not to love here.
canon lgbt+ is a ✓. this is really sufficiently creepy considering it’s not often overtly creepy. this is set up as a series of relaxation tapes, which progressively get more and more interested in helping the listener break out of the facility in which she’s being kept. super chilling at times, because the voice is so calm and the action so dangerous.
canon lgbt+ is a ✓. okay, well, what more can be said about this at this point? if you’re not listening to it, you’re wrong. why wouldn’t you want to visit a town that can’t be visited and where every conspiracy theory is real and a part of everyday life? yeah, everyone knows about the vague yet menacing government agency, steve carlsberg, you’re not hitting on anything new there. there’s a dog park that doesn’t allow dogs, angels that are never to be identified as angels, mountains that aren’t real, a glow cloud that–ALL HAIL and a love story so complete and perfect that it can and will utterly steal your breath at times. go, listen, inhale.
Fanon Langst is so…………. like, I understand that everyone experiences low self-esteem and struggles with their worth in different ways, but fanon Langst is really bad lmao. It’s so one note to me? And a lot of the time it feels like just an excuse to beat on Lance.
If you want your blog to be filled with pics of Lance crying, go ahead. But it is disturbing how Big this trend of ‘Lance being hurt, Lance crying, Lance dying’ is in this fandom. It’s…. weird that I can go into the tag, either here or on ao3, and know with 100% certainty that I’ll see something about Lance getting hurt/killed.
Many people have been quick to point out that all this excessive Langst content ties into racism. And I won’t lie, I agree with them. Lance is a confirmed brown, Cuban, character of color. And there is a history of brown lives being less valued than white lives- a history that is in fact still happening now. It’s important to remember and acknowledge that fact, and therefore reexamine Langst content with a more critical eye.
HOWEVER, I also understand that Langst is a popular thing because Lance is relatable to the audience. And because Lance is so relatable, it’s easy to project on him. But I gotta………. look, I’m not a psychologist or a therapist, but to every person reading this post- if you treat Lance as a sort of vehicle for every negative thought or fantasy you’ve ever had for yourself, you need to take a step back and just…. look at what you’re doing. Because I did this sort of thing when I was younger, too. I took my favorite characters, the ones I related to most, and I beat them to all hell and made them wish they were dead. And looking back on it now, I’m alarmed by how many Warning Signs there were.
Making angsty content of your faves is fun, but not to the extent that you use them as punching bag stand ins for your own issues. I’ve realized now that I wailed on my favorite characters because I wanted to hurt myself. It wasn’t a healthy way to cope then, and it’s taken me a long time to recover from that mindset.
So yeah. Maybe it’s time we start shifting away from hurting Lance.
Hi here’s another list of things I’ve read that are really important to me, on the loose theme of ‘fantasy urbanism.’ I still haven’t read Dhalgren.
Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino. This is the most essential thing to read if you are even tangentially interested in anything about this list i think. Revelatory to me as a pulpy-literalistic fantasist.
Imaginary Cities by Darran Anderson. Inspired by the Calvino book, an enormous overview of planned or dreamed cities that were never built.
Kalpa Imperial by Angélica Gorodischer. Some of my favorite secondary-world fiction I have ever read. Short stories from the history of an empire at the ludicrous extreme of size, depth, history. The English edition was translated by Ursula K. Le Guin who is my favorite.
A Stranger in Olondria by Sofia Samatar. Beautiful book and deals with an invented setting and urban spaces with a more densely intellectual approach than I have ever seen.
Delirious New York by Rem Koolhaas. An architectural history and “retroactive manifesto” for Manhattan, but some of the most interesting bits are about Coney Island in particular. Huge futuristic conflicts underlie every modern city.
The City & the City by China Miéville. This isn’t a lot of people’s favorites of his because its fantastic elements aren’t the loudest, but it’s so smart and bewildering and develops an allegory for emergent social strata in urban spaces that is really compelling.
The Event Factory by Renee Gladman. Just finished this; it feels loose and dreamlike and engages very clearly with real feelings of exploring new spaces, radically repurposing urban environments…
Country of Ghosts by Margaret Killjoy. Not as totally concerned with cities as the rest of the list, but a really exciting and unusual example of worldbuilding from an intentionally political/utopian perspective.
Surregional Explorations by Max Cafard. The first few essays in this book deal with Surrealist and Situationist approaches to urban space and the unconscious of cities; it’s a weird jumbled book but I liked it

RAE YOU KNOW HOW TO PULL AT MY HEART STRINGS YOU SHOULD BE SLEEPING BUT I AM STILL DOING THIS FOR YOU
my my my my my boys!!
Evan fell asleep easily. It took them a month or so of dating to get to the point where they were comfortable enough with each other to cuddle, but the first time they did, Evan fell asleep almost the second he curled up against Connor. Over time Connor came to realize that literally any time that Evan was laying down next to something warm, or with a blanket on top of him, he was in danger of falling asleep. Connor was never annoyed by it, he found it endearing. Evan was constantly anxious in his waking life, but sleeping was one of the few times that he looked completely at peace. Connor cherished these moments.
Evan was a totally still sleeper. Once he was in a comfortable position, he wouldn’t move. Much to Connor’s dismay, he wasn’t much of a sleep talker as well (Connor had hoped for Evan to say something cute or funny). Evan would just lay there until he woke up. Sometimes it would seem like he wasn’t even breathing, scaring Connor half to death.
Evan would always wake up and apologize for falling asleep but Connor would brush off the apologies before pulling Evan closer.
Right now, the sun was warm, and Connor for a split second regretted laying out here. All it took was one look at his (sleeping) boyfriend for the heat from the sun to become irrelevant. Evan’s legs were tangled up with Connor’s which was kind of risky seeing how they were on a hammock.
Evan mumbled under his breath and shifted slightly, letting out a puff of air. Connor now recognized these signs as Evan waking up. Right on cue, Evan groaned, and moved his body, rocking the hammock. He opened his eyes sleepily and looked at Evan.
“What ya lookin’ at?” Evan’s voice was heavy with sleep. His cheeks were a rosy pink, and his hair was a complete mess. Connor smirked at his boyfriend.
“You are the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.” Connor said. Evan blinked at him a few times, his sleepy mind still processing the words. He then blushed even more and buried his head in the crook of Connor’s neck. Connor laughed, and rubbed his boyfriend’s back. All of their movement was shaking the hammock that was already small to begin with, so when Evan moved up to kiss Connor, the hammock tipped over.
The two boys laughed when they hit the ground, the now empty hammock swinging above them.
“I love you,” Evan whispered. Connor gazed back at Evan, and knew for sure that he was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.
1. Hinata and Kageyama. In which we all were Yachi Hitoka. One of the things that always comes to mind when I think about this fight is her eyes full of tears seeing Hinata talking about Kageyama, calling him his partner despite having just been through the ultimate breaking point in their relationship. It was hard and heartbreaking but still it’s my favorite fight of all, because it finally made them (and all the team with them) realize the extent of their relationship and how much they need each other to play, to be happy, and to grow.
2. Asahi and Nishinoya. Angst is the way to my heart and their fight made episode 9 my overall favorite of the first season. We never saw any of them as furious as they were during this fight, and the most heartbreaking thing is that they both thought they failed the other and their entire team, that they were not good enough. And none of them can stand it. We know this affected Asahi way more than Noya, but, even if it seems the exacts opposite, this fight showed how unbreakable their bond is, how loyal they are to the other, so much that Noya decided to never win a match without him. Ever. He’d give up his talent and his future because of him. And every time I think about it I die.
3. Oikawa and Iwaizumi. A fight that changed Oikawa’s way of thinking forever and showed us that sometimes Iwa truly has to use the hard ways to make that obsessive mind that’s Oikawa Tooru understand an easy but still life chancing concept that’s “the team with the better six is stronger”. The aftermath of this brief fight is amazing, with Oikawa saying: “I suddenly feel invincible” and Iwa being all concern of having hit him too strong. This is…the most iwaoi thing they have ever done.
4. Tsukishima and Yamaguchi. When they fight I’m ALWAYS rooting for Yams like hell. You tell him boy! You know it’s not my top, but still no one gets a grip of Tsukki like Yamaguchi does, especially from season 2 on. I love how, even if he respects him a lot, he’s not afraid to take him by the shirt and yell in his face the always iconic “What else do we need besides pride?”, hitting like a hammer in Tsukishima’s already cracked wall. This fight made all Tsukki’s limits crumble, it lit the flame inside him, it brushed all the pain his brother cause him in the past, but mostly it showed us how very very cool Yamaguchi really is. A+
5. Yahaba abd Kyoutani. This is more of a confrontation that a fight but still (I have realized that there aren’t so many fights ??? HOW ???). This is a softer version of the iwaoi fight, in which Yahaba only needed a slam against a wall and some cutting words to make Kyoutani understand what means to be a true part of the team. Yes, this is Yahaba letting out his “future captain” side, but you know, it’s the first fight that creates the bond…and I sense that these two will have a lot to entertain us with next year…
