So I Returned To The Beach

My love,
Every time I blink,
I bring you right back the brink of me feeling you.
To the memory of what you forever have meant to me.
When I focus my mind, I can move to your melodies,
Which now are nothing more than a soundtrack to my dreams.

I’m left with a loop of you smiling at the beach where we met.
You were dancing in the sand that day.
You were dancing in the sun that day.
You were dancing in my soul that day.

Life laughs at me loudly knowing I no longer have a choice
But to wait as the weight of my heart pulls me down,
Deep into the ocean of the songs that we shared.
The music is still stuck in my head, my love.

So I returned to the beach,
In hopes of receiving any seemingly seeable semblance of you.

The tide is out,
My eyes are dry,
And here in the salty spray of the wind,
I look forward to every blink that retrieves you.

Thirteen Reasons Why - Explained

Thirteen Reasons Why

I’ve seen a lot of posts about Hannah being a ‘drama queen’ or overreacting to small things everyone did so I thought I’d explain a bit about what I understood.

1. Justin - Justin exaggerated what he and Hannah did. While this seems mild, it set Hannah up for a terrible high school career because she earned the reputation of 'slut’. This happens so often in schools and in the adult world and can RUIN someone’s life in a certain, if not all areas.

2. Alex - Alex put Hannah as having the best ass against Jessica as the worst. It is clear that the internet is doing its thing again and not taking time to understand things properly; this was NOT A COMPLIMENT AND HANNAH HAD EVERY RIGHT TO BE ANGRY. It was a clear violation of friendship and an obvious example of men pitting women against each other for their own benefit.

3. Jessica - I’m going more by the book here, but Jessica was on the tapes because she didn’t believe Hannah and abandoned her when she needed her. A clear example of how people can easily be lead by others and girls turning on each other because of guys. Jessica deserved to be on the tapes because she didn’t hear Hannah’s side of the story and instead took her anger out on her first friend at the school.

4. Tyler - I don’t think I need to explain much about this, but he abused his position as a photographer in school to violate boundaries for his own pleasure similar to how a lot of people in a power exploit those below them. He made Hannah feel vulnerable and took the lack of comfort she felt at school to her own bedroom.

5. Courtney - I suppose this is kind of harder to understand. Courtney was a closeted lesbian and therefore it is understandable that she was upset at the thought of her being outed before she was ready, but Hannah confided in her to help her expose someone else and instead she protected herself by further ruining Hannah. This shows the selfishness of those who feel the need to protect themselves by harming others.

6. Marcus - I haven’t seen much on Marcus honestly, but I dislike him immensely. He took advantage of Hannah because of the impression of her he had put together from rumours created by other reasons (Justin, Courtney) which is an expression of how men feel owed something from women, especially those who are seen as 'slutty’.

7. Zach - At first glance, Zach doesn’t seem too bad. At half a second glimpse, this changes. Hannah rejected him because he said something silly, a mistake, and if he had made an obvious effort to explain and apologise, he could have helped Hannah. Instead, he chooses to punish her by preventing her from receiving happiness from others. This is one of the clearest examples of how men can’t handle a woman’s right to say 'no’ and reject him…

8. Ryan - This tape is similar to that of Tyler in that he made her feel unsafe. What Tyler did was worse than Ryan, however the effect of Ryan’s actions had (in my opinion) worse consequences that Tyler’s. Ryan published her poem because he thought it was something that needed to be shared, a selfish and naive action (when considering the maturity of high school students), which meant that Hannah’s personal thoughts were no longer her own. She was not comfortable at school, home or in her own mind.

9. Clay - Though I agree when Hannah states that he shouldn’t have been on the tapes, Clay does represent 'everyone else’ who stands by and watched people like Hannah slowly fade and retreat into themselves because of the actions of others. The 'bystanders’ if you will, whose lack of part in our stories can be just as important as those who intrude on us.

10. Justin - It is evident in the series that Justin was extremely haunted by the rape at Jessica’s party and this is probably why he is gaining so much sympathy… this is also why I recommend you all READ THE BOOK. Justin stood by and watched his friend rape his girlfriend, why is he receiving more sympathy than I’ve seen for Jessica? Of course it was hard for Justin to witness that, but staying friends with Bryce and staying with Jessica without telling her is reason enough for him to be on the tapes again.

11. Jenny - Jenny was kind to Hannah, offering her a lift home, but she didn’t take responsibility for knocking down the stop sign which lead to someone’s DEATH. The guilt that Hannah was left with from this (because she was in the car) was understandably overwhelming, especially as the victim was a classmate who was blamed for drunk driving. Jenny is an example of how our reckless actions and lack of responsibility for them can destroy other lives; is that not the entire plot?

12. Bryce - Lord help you if you need an explaination.

13. Mr Porter - A perfect example of how there is not enough support out there for students (and people in general, honestly). The counsellor advising Hannah to 'move on’ after she confides in him that she was raped is one of the most haunting moments in the entire series, solidifying her reason for suicide- she had no comfort amongst her classmates, in her own home, in her mind and now, the specialist designated for dealing with situations like this bore no real interest in her problems and told her to 'move on’.

It’s extremely important for us when watching shows with topics like this to remember many things.

First, the show is not just this situation. Everything represents something more in society; each tape side is a problem in the world that leads to suicide, not only a small action by one character leading to Hannah Baker’s suicide. If you need help in understanding this, or want something else similar to this story, I recommend watching or reading 'An Inspector Calls’ by J.B. Priestly- a masterful piece tackling classism/sexism and how each person’s seemingly small actions lead to a girl’s suicide.

Second, memes are sometimes funny. The 'Clay every time he sees Tony’ memes are really funny, the 'fuck off, Courtney’ memes are funny, but the 'welcome to your tape over a slight inconvenience’ memes, they’re not. The show is raising awareness for the seriousness of suicide, not to create a fanbase of jokes about it. Promoting these after you watch the show, is a clear statement that you haven’t understood why it was made and is completely unacceptable.

Third, separate the character from the actor. Justin Prentice is NOT Bryce Walker, do not spam his comments with disgusting name calling or threatening- this is CLEARLY wrong and unnecessary. This also works the other way: Brandon Flynn is NOT Justin Foley. Just because Brandon is attractive and nice, doesn’t mean his character becomes as such.

Please don’t turn 13 reasons why into another generic element of pop culture. I love pop culture, don’t get me wrong, but we have a tendency to begin digging for meaning and giving up halfway; overusing the profound starting points of progress we find by loosely throwing them around, emptying them of all meaning.

I hate school. I hate what it does to us. Erases out vibrancy, tears off our wings, teaches us to do those things to others and ourselves. I hate the walls painted as dull as minds who will never find joy in learning from the damage they’ve sustained, the walls imprisoning us. I hate the teachers who see and can not care, and the ones who see and do nothing. I hate the masquerade to act as if we haven’t been shattered, the masquerade of things no longer human. But mostly I hate the way every thing they do is meant as a funhouse mirror made of terror, making us believe we are powerless, making us tell ourselves we are nothing more than dust we breathe in and breathe out. I hate the way it trains us to believe we are anything less than infinite. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it.

One of the things I love about Black Paladin Lance is that there are so many possibilies for how he becomes the Black Paladin.  Here are just a few ideas I’ve had:

  • Allura brings up the fact that they’ll need a new Black Paladin and Lance immediantly steps up.  He was the leader pre-voltron so it’s only natural, really.
    • This can also go many ways.
    • Keith freaks the fuck out at Lance because um, hello?  There’s no way Lance would make a good leader, he’s reckless and talks them all into messes all the time.  Not to mention the fact Shiro said he should be the leader, Keith isn’t going to go against Shiro’s words
      • Lance points out that Keith is just as reckless as Lance is, expect Keith is at his most reckless in battle so it’s not a really good idea for Keith to be the leader.  He also mentions that of course Shiro picked Keith for the leader, if Keith’s really that blind to favourism he’s an idiot.  Shiro barely looks at Lance, Hunk, or Coran.
      • The dispute quickly tears the group apart.  Coran and Hunk are for team Lance, Allura (and techinally Shiro) are team Keith
      • Pidge could go either way, on one hand she could go for Keith because 1. She trusts Shiro, and 2. She too doesn’t really notice how good a leader Lance is cause that the type of leader Lance is.  Shiro’s a very obvious leader, he stands above the others (both literally and figuritively) and is helps pull others up.  He’s not entitled but his energy basically screams follow me.  Lance isn’t like that, he’s the type of leader that will stand in front of you when there’s consequences or danger, but outside that he’s standing with you or behind you and pushing you to be your best.  So Pidge just sort of didn’t notice she followed his lead in the garrison.
      • Or Pidge could be Team Lance because she did notice
      • Personally i perfer Pidge being Team Keith and then realizing very quickly she made the wrong choice
      • Lance quickly notices that they’re not getting anywhere arguing about it so he relents (very much ‘fine, whatever, you lead voltron, have fun with that!’ and storms off).  Which, ironically, just further proves he’s better black paladin material
      • Keith becomes the Black Paladin, Lance the Red, Coran the Blue (they need Allura in the castle), Pidge and Hunk remain as they are
      • Keith leads and he’s not terrible at it he’s just not all that good and he doesn’t have time to learn and Lance has to do a lot of back seat leading because Keith just doesn’t understand their strengths and weaknesses, is trying to hard to channel Shiro and becoming a pretty big dick (Shiro’s in a different position, he was already their upperclassman, Keith is techinally meant to be on their level but acting like an upperclassman and it’s pissing everyone off), he’s no help in statergy meetings, and he runs off by himself in battle all the fucking time
        • Lance starts having to shout ‘switch’ during battles beause it’s a better system than arguing with Keith.  He goes off at the guy whenever he runs off.  He ends up having to explain Keith’s half baked ideas.  He’s basically the leader without the black lion and he is so sick of Keith’s shit.  Red is too and they bitch and moan about it together.  Black and Keith don’t talk.
      • And despite all this the only person to come around and think Lance should be their leader is Pidge, Allura is still very, very sure Lance is not a good idea
      • Until she actually she’s him in action.  For whatever reason Lance is forced to pose as Voltron’s representative/Leader on a planet and Allura expects it to go terrible but it doesn’t.  Lance is still flirty and ridiculous but he’s able to sit down and be serious.  Maybe Keith pissed someone off and Lance has to talk Keith’s way out of jail, maybe he’s trying to convince them to help despite the danger it puts the planet in
      • Whatever it is he succeeds and when he comes back they have a whole new talk about who the leaders going to be.  Lance is given the role and the first thing he asks is if Keith is truly fine with that.  Que Keith feeling guilty because he expected Lance to be an asshole about it but nope
      • Lance is still immature and insists on making Voltron bow after distressing things, tells Pidge they can finally make Voltron dab and other such stuff but he’s serious side is out more often and everything goes amazingly with Voltron
    • OR: Keith doesn’t speak up.  Maybe he doesn’t think Lance will be the best leader but he doesn’t want to be the leader.  Allura’s still not very sure about it, but Coran and Hunk (and maybe Pidge) all insist it’s a good idea and no one else steps up so Lance becomes the black paladin
      • Everything goes really well.  Again, Lance is immature and a flirt but when the situation calls for it he’s as good and mature a leader as Allura and Shiro
      • Allura apologizes for misjudging me and Lance jokes about her finally falling for his charms in just a matter of time and Allura gets pissed and Lance laughs only to admit that it means a lot she said that
      • He doesn’t find out Keith was meant to lead until they’re saving Shiro.  Lance walks in the black lion behind him (his armour now black) and Shiro can’t make out who it is at first he just says something along the lines of ‘keith, i knew you’d come for me’ with a grin and Lance frowns and steps closer and says ‘i’m not keith dude, can you see okay?’ and shiro finds and his first reaction is to ask if Keith is okay, why isn’t he the black paladin? and Lance is starting to get pissed because seriously shiro?  is it so unlucky to him that Lance could be a leader?  But he sucks it up and answers everything calmly because he has a fucking person to save
      • Shiro doesn’t even think to thank him in all that goes on and Lance just gets really, really bitter
      • like he knows he shouldn’t be and all but he’s upset.  He’s been running on fumes for weeks making sure everyone else is healthy, coming up with plans with Allura and their allies, making those allies, and just all the stress of causing all the shots and now this.  He still manages to collect himself and put on a brave face but he has a short fuse these days, he’s on edge, and everyone is on edge because of it
      • the tension doesn’t help either, they’ve saved shiro but now what?  it’s not like shiro can just slip back into the place he had, he needs time to heal and readjust and everyone else needs time to readjust like they planned to save shiro but they never really planned past that
      • Things with Shiro and Lance just get worse.  Shiro doesn’t know how to treat a Lance who no longer has a hero complex, who knows he’s earnt his place and has a right to speak up against Shiro.  Shiro finds it weird enough that Lance is sitting in on all the meetings they’re having, let alone that he’s an active part of those meetings unlike the others who may listen but don’t really interact (thinking the BoM style planning, Lance was clearly listening in and looking for faults in their plans only to find none while the others weren’t paying as much attention)
      • It also doesn’t help that he doesn’t see the awesome leader Lance was because normally Lance is so much more patient.  He hears Lance ask why Keith didn’t tell him about Shiro’s wish and Keith admits he didn’t want to lead and Lance gets mad because this isn’t school anymore.  Someone can’t be your replacement because you don’t want to do something.  They get into an argument but that’s more or less the way they commicate, so what Lance says gets through to Keith it’s just not how Shiro would do things
      • And that’s what it comes down to, really.  The fact Lance leads in a different way to Shiro.  He never once tried to be shiro because he know it wouldn’t work.  He’s a great leader in his own right, it’s just that shiro has a hard time seeing anyone elses training styles as right.
      • They end up having a heart to heart in Black.  Lance was chilling in his pilot chair sort of just sighing and trying to get it out of his system and Shiro showed up to reconnect with his lion and he stumbles upon Lance and Black like just talking.  And Shiro doesn’t get it because it was never that easy with him but that’s because they’re different people with different needs.  Lance needs to talk, Shiro doesn’t.
      • So Lance and Black talk in a way only pilot and paladin can.  Shiro clears his throat and Lance ends up telling him how he feels (like the crystal seen with coran).  He tells Shiro how he’s just… he knows he’s going to be kicked to the back on the group again because thats what happened last time and he just isn’t happy about it because he’s made his spot on the team and now it’s falling through his fingers.  He admits he’s made Shiro was surprised Lance was the leader, like Lance knew Shiro didn’t notice him but it still hurt.
      • And Shiro feels like shit and they work through their problems like adults
  • OR: Lance doesn’t step forward as leader.  They’re in their lions about to go into battle but Keith… Keith can’t enter Black.  The lion once more has his particle barrier up and he won’t let Keith in.
    • Lance, because he’s in red and feels its better he sit out than Keith, flies over to see if he can help.  Keith’s still trying to push in and Lance makes a joke about needing to knock (like he did with Blue) and it fucking works.
    • Maybe they don’t realize at first cause Keith was also pushing at the barrier but Keith steps forward and Black doesn’t lower his head.  Instead the cat basically rolls his eyes and moves to lower his head and let Lance in
    • Lance is hella shell shocked and just sort of… walks in.  Like, okay then I guess I’m your paladin now?  ‘no shit kid lets go’ says black as Lance sits in his pilots chair and it just sorta happens
    • he rejoins the fight and everyones like ‘you got it working!  good job’ and Lance is like ‘well actually’
    • Hunk, Coran, and/or Pidge could be like ‘called it’ or everything could just be really confusing and tense until Black rolls his eyes again and tells Lance to just focus already holy fuck dude war zone
    • Things go swimmingly
  • OR: Allura annouces it has to be the blue paladin, always.  The Blue Lion is the only one with a qunsitence that will match the black lion and therefore they don’t have a choice, lance is the leader
    • Lance is thrilled at first and then not everyone else is
    • Hunk and Coran are so proud, as are the mice
    • Again, 50/50 on if Pidge is okay with this or not.
    • Keith is not, he complains that Lance is nothing like Shiro (Lance argues that neither is Zarkon) and gets really uffy about it
    • Allura attempts that she’s not happy about it either but there’s not really anything they can do so they’ll have to stuck it up and deal with it
    • Their balant dislike of Lance pushes him to not be so proud.  He knows if they’re going to work as a team they’ll need to all accept him as a leader so he starts pushing himself way to hard
    • he also tries to be more like shiro, which really doesn’t work out for him
    • he’s not sure Black will accept him at first but the lion does only he refuses to commicate with Lance properly.
    • Lance pushes himself too far in training, barely gets any sleep, and constantly gets into fights with Keith and Allura because he’s just looking out for them but fuck off lance, just because you’re the black paladin doesn’t mean you can order us around
    • his insecurities just get worse
    • he starts getting wreckless, not as a leader but as a person
    • he takes every hit he can for the others, stops eating almost entirely, stops talking as much etc.
    • Coran and Hunk notice but they don’t know what to do (Hunk’s used to calling up an older sibling or Lance’s mama for this but he can’t right now) but Allura and Keith are blissfully unaware.
    • Until Lance ends up in the healing pods because he pushed himself too far and Allura and Keith get mad at him for it and Lance just doesn’t have the energy to fight.  He ends up telling them to search for a new black paladin then, if they’re so against him he will back down the moment they find someone.  Maybe they’ll actually give that person a chance to be a leader
    • He doesn’t say it rudely or like they could never find another, he just says it plainly and then Hunk leads him to get some food.
    • Que Allura and Keith feeling like shit and realizing they really haven’t given Lance a chance.  Allura reviews it and wow, Lance is actually great in battle as the black lion.  In fact the biggest fuck ups are from Keith refusing to listen.  Keith has a good long think-and-stare-at-my-blade session
    • They both decide they do need to give Lance a chance, Lance doens’t exactly trust them at first but they try and everyone finds it fits rather well.  Lance starts to relax more now that Allura and Keith aren’t jumping on his every flaw.  Allura starts listening to him.  Keith starts following his orders
    • And they’re happy
    • For all of 5 minutes

Concept: Mickey and Emil have been friends basically since they both began skating. They’re really close, and when I say close I mean HELLA. Sleepovers, friendship bracelet exchange when they were 12 (Emil still wears his outside of skating, and while Mickey will never admit it he still keeps his in his wallet of all places), the whole deal. Sara is also part of their friend group, but she’s definitely not as close to Emil as Mickey is.

And then puberty hits and Mickey suddenly becomes very aware of Emil and his closeness to Sara. In reality, nothing’s really changed, but he’s begun to get a weird tight feeling in his chest whenever he sees Emil smiling and laughing with Sara. He begins to be a lot more protective over Sara because that’s what it’s gotta be, right? Sara is getting prettier each year, and as her big brother he has a responsibility to keep men from taking advantage of her. Even if it’s Emil, who he’s known for years. Anyways, there’s nothing else this feeling can be, right? Right. Nothing more than protectiveness.

Prompt: Trimberly - jealous Kim and maybe a little bit of angst

You got it!

—-

Tommy Oliver.

New kid. Tall. Brunette. Green eyed (appropriately). Surprisingly Popular (suspicious - no new kid had a right to be popular). Green Ranger (very suspicious). Tomboy. Straight-A Student (so why detention??? Also suspicious).

And the absolute bane of Kimberly Hart’s existence.

The moment Tommy had arrived in detention, Kim had smelled trouble. Because not only was Tommy gorgeous, not only was Tommy funny, and athletic, and intelligent.

Not only was Tommy Oliver basically perfect in the cut-throat adolescent world of High School, but Tommy Oliver was charming. Kim hated charming people. She especially hated them right now. Because right now, Tommy fucking Oliver was flirting with Trini. What’s worse? Trini was giggling. And blushing

And Kim couldn’t do a fucking thing about it.

She’d been flirting (haha see what she did there? Pathetic) with the idea of asking Trini out for months. And really, who wouldn’t? Trini was damn near perfect. She was kind and intelligent and funny and absolutely gorgeous.

And she was far too good for Kimberly Hart.

She was too good for the ex-cheerleader who was this close to being labeled a sex offender. She was too good for the girl who got so defensive over her own actions, she punched her ex-sort-of-not-really-boyfriend so hard without powers that he’d lost a tooth. She was too good for the girl who was so emotionally stunted she’d kept them all from morphing until Billy had died.

So no, Kim wasn’t good enough for Trini. But she wasn’t positive Tommy Oliver was either.

“You trying out your laser vision again, princess?”

Zach’s amused drawl broke through her staring contest with the back of Tommy’s head.

“Huh? We don’t have laser vision, doofus.”

“Well you’re definitely trying to melt the back of poor Tommy’s head. What did she ever do to you, huh?”

Kim glanced away just as Tommy shifted to reveal a surprisingly bashful Trini.

“Oh.”

Kim sighed. Sometimes she thought the only one in their group who didn’t know about her pathetic crush on the Yellow Ranger was Trini herself.

“Yeah.” What else was there to say? She didn’t have a chance with Trini, she knew that. And Tommy really was a good sort. Mostly. And hey if she could make Trini smile like that, who was Kim to get in the way? No one, that’s who.

She feels Zach’s gaze on her, but she refuses to look up. She doesn’t want to see the pity in his eyes. She doesn’t see the thoughtfulness in his gaze, or the way his eyes flick between Trini’s furtive looks in Kim’s direction, and Kim’s hunched shoulders.

….

Trini slid next to Zach in their English class with and grunted out some form of greeting as she rested her head on top of her folded arms. She had a massive headache and really just wanted to do some yoga on her rock. She was not looking forward to debating Shakespeare for the umpteenth time this year with a bunch of pimply hormonal teens.

“’Sup, Crazy Girl.”

Grunt.

“Got a headache?”

Shrug.

“Got anything to do with a certain green friend of ours?”

Head tilt, murderous glare.

Students were settling into their seats as the teacher wrote their assignments on the board, and told them to choose partners to go over the next Act of Hamlet. Zach payed the rest of them no mind.

“Funny thing, I think Kim’s got a headache for the same exact reason.”

“Wait, what?”

“Oh, it speaks!”

“Shut up idiot.”

“Ouch. Words hurt, you know”

“You don’t have enough brain cells to be offended by my awesome snark.”

“Damn, fine. I won’t tell you what Kim said earlier when Tommy was all over you.”

“What the fuck, Zach.”

Zach buried his nose in Shakespeare and ignored Trini’s glare. Finally, she rolled her eyes.

“Fine, o amazing Black Ranger. I only insult your awesomeness because I cannot even dream to match it. Alright? Just tell me already!”

Zach smirked. “Someone’s eager. And just how much Shakespeare have you been reading, Trinity?”

She kicked his shin under the table, hard.

“Call me Trinity again and you’ll wish Rita was back.”

“Ok, ok, jesus, leave my bones intact, Crazy Girl! I probably shouldn’t be telling you this, but - and I say this with all possibly love - but damn girl you’re oblivious. Even Jason figured it out, and you know that’s saying something.”

“Figured what out?” Trini was getting more confused by the second, and it wasn’t helping her headache in the slightest. If Zach didn’t get to his point soon, she’d punch him and deal with going to the principal’s office happily.

“Kim’s got a gigantic gay crush on you, Trini.”

Trini blinked. “Huh?”

It was Zach’s turn to roll his eyes.

“Girl, the only thing that even comes close to your crush on Kim, is her crush on you. We both know Tommy just likes to flirt - especially with you, because you blush so easily when a pretty girl is paying attention to you -”

Trini kicked his shin again with a hissed “Hey!”

“ - Ow! What? It’s the truth! Anyway, I don’t think Kim’s realized that Tommy’s flirting is harmless when it comes to you. I mean hey we all know she’s got the hots for the hottest member of the team. Moi.”

Another kick. “Ow! I’m going to the police. This abuse is just unwarranted.”

“Zach, for fucks sake, please get to the point.”

“I thought I had? What’s that glare for? You need me to spell it out? Kim. Was. Jealous. Kim. Likes. You. Idiot. No accounting for taste, but - HEY!”

“Zach, Trini, is there something you’d like to share with the class?”

“No, Ms. Morris we were just, uh, having a disagreement over the meaning of a passage.”

Watching Zachary Kwan trying to appear innocent was not a pretty sight, but luckily, their teacher just rolled her eyes and moved on.

“What did I say about the kicking?? Jeez. And here I am, trying to help you out. Some friend you are.”

“Aww poor wittle baby. Suck it up, bitch.”

Trini was quiet for a moment, thinking.

“You’re not pulling my leg? Kim’s really into me?”

“Dude you’re like, Wynonna Earp level oblivious.”

“I don’t know whether to take that as an insult or a compliment.”

“Definitely an insult.”

“Rude.”

Tommy’s next flirting target two days later, ironically, was Kim.

Their training session for the day had ended, and they were all relaxing and nursing various bruises and scrapes under the coolness coming from the lake above the pit. Trini, observing Tommy’s flirting process, personally thought that the award for Wynonna Earp obliviousness should go to Kim, who hadn’t realized yet that Tommy had been flirting with her for the past half hour.

Trini had conducted her own experiments over the past two days to see if Zach was just insane or if his claim held any merit. She’d found, to her surprise, that he might, in fact, in some weird twist of fate, be right, and she’d been trying all morning to come up with a way to ask her fellow ranger out.

And then Tommy had butted in, and Zach had been smirking at her for the past half hour, and winking every time Tommy said something even remotely suggestive. Now, glancing from Kim to Zach one more time, he waggled his eyebrows and tilted his head in a clear dare. Trini Alverado was not one to ever back down from a dare.

Taking a fortifying breath, she left her perch atop one of the rocks in the pit and stalked over to Kim and Tommy. Kim brightened at the sight of her, giving Trini butterflies, and Tommy’s eyes took on a mischievous gleam.

“Hey, Tommy. Kim, I’m really sorry about this.”

Kim looked confused, and Tommy looked amused.

“For what?” They voiced the query at the same time.

Taking another breath, Trini grabbed Kim’s wrist and pulled the taller girl down so she could press her lips to Kim’s.

She could hear Zach’s whoop of laughter, Billy’s clapping, and Jason’s cheering in the background as she felt Kim’s startled exhale of breath against her face. A tentative hand threaded itself through her hair as she felt Kim move closer to her, press more firmly into her lips, and heard Tommy’s quiet chuckle next to them.

She pulled away from Kim, a small smirk on her lips and took a few steps backwards.

“We should do that again some time, if you’re interested.”

With a thrust from her legs, she propelled herself through the lake, hoping Kim wouldn’t be too far behind.

Here you go whatisyourlefteyebrowdoingdavid. You want to shoot angst at me then I will shoot it right back. David upset on the beach, that’s versatility for you ;). And I don’t think I need to explain who the “inappropriate kissing situation” was about. LOL. The war continues!

Aliens reacting to our mess of alien horror films please?

Jostedalsbreen had been on the primarily human vessel for almost thirty of their rotations now, and was confident enough to say xe knew a lot about humans and their cultures by now.

Xe even knew of the concept of popcorn, which apparently was going to be relevant for the end-of-roation bonding they referred to as ‘moovee naigt’ apparently they would view a classic of some sort. It sounded like an art form similar to theatre - which Jostedalsbreen had read about.

When xe arrived at the designated room xe had no idea what horrors awaited xem. At first it seemed pleasurable enough, but it didn’t take long before xe was as good as frozen to xir seat, silently bemoaning the evolutionary trait that rendered xem unable to move.

Fortunately, one of the humans - Communications Officer Moreau - seemed to take notice not too long after, and end the horrific ordeal on the screen. Jostedalsbreen needed some time to recover before xe was able to communicate in a way the humans would understand, but once xe was ready, xe knew what xe had to ask.

“W- what was that?”

“The movie?” Moreau asked before they seemed to realise the problem. “It’s fictitious, don’t worry. Purely for entertainment value.”

Clearly the humans didn’t realise how unsettling that statement was. “You find footage of your own species being ripped to shreds funny?” Xe asked in disbelief, almost scared of what the answer would be. Humans did have a reputation after all, but from what xe had seen, it seemed to be largely undeserved. Even if they seemed to have no idea what self-preservation meant, and came from a truly terrifying world.

“No, no, of course not. It’s scary,” they answered, causing a wave of relief to wash over Jostedalsbreen. Until they continued, that is. “That’s what we like about it.”

The shock xe experienced must have shown, because Moreau didn’t stop there. “I’m not really sure why or how it works, but getting scared is funny sometimes. Like, when someone sneaks up behind you and scare you, and for some reason you end up laughing because the person who snuck up on you scared you? That ever happen to you?”

It took longer than it should have for Jostedalsbreen to realise that they weren’t joking, nor was the question rhetorical. “No. How would someone attacking you be entertaining?”

“I don’t know, it just is. And they’re not actually attacking, they’re just… you know. Giving you a spook.”

Pretending to understand what they meant, xe moved xir head in what humans considered a sign of agreement, realising xe had been a fool to think xe could ever understand humans.

cant believe peter jackson had his crew take apart a tree limb by limb, label the pieces, transport them, reassemble them exactly as they were, and attach hand painted leaves, all for a shot no longer than a few seconds, just so we would see that bilbo baggins’ home is built under an oak tree, but sure he wasnt meant to be with thorin goddamn oakenshield

Lucky Swap

A very very late @mlsecretsanta gift for @teddy529. You had a pretty open-ended request, so I went with a temporary kwami swap!

The day began simply enough. An afternoon wandering around the streets of Paris with Alya by her side and a little money to spend on something to reward herself for her much improved attendance record at school. They even managed to find one of many small shops with a collection of Ladybug and Chat Noir merchandise, primarily intended to appeal to tourists and younger fans. Alya, however, was immediately taken by some of the earrings on display.

“Marinette, look! This one’s perfect for you!” The pink ladybug earrings were exactly the style Marinette typically wore, but Marinette shook her head.

“No, that’s okay. I already have the perfect pair.” She picked up a plastic ring that looked similar to Chat Noir’s. “I really love what I’m wearing.”

“Tell me about it.” Alya rolled her eyes. “I’ve never seen you wear anything else.”

“They were a gift from someone really important.” Marinette chuckled as she set the ring aside.

“Yeah, so you keep saying.” Alya waved the earrings in front of her. “You could at least try these on, though.”

“But I’m not going to buy them,” Marinette insisted.

“Why not? You can like a pair of earrings and still have some variety.” Alya frowned.

Marinette hesitated, caught between her duty to keep her earrings safe and the simple desire to indulge in trying on something new after months of wearing the same accessory every day. Besides, they’d just defeated an akuma last night, and Hawkmoth was probably still sulking over his latest defeat. Surely, she could take the chance to remove her miraculous for a little bit.

Unfortunately for her, the universe seemed to have some different thoughts on the subject. Almost as soon as she’d taken them off and tucked them into her purse, she was interrupted by the sound of shouting outside the small shop. Alya dragged her to the street before Marinette even had the chance to snap her purse shut, and they both stared up at the sight of an akumatized man on stilts, kicking over carts and stomping on cars that didn’t move out of the way fast enough.

So much for a day off.

Hey Alan! I just saw a post about different types of allistics on my dash... one of them was "The 'Ally'™". I'm allistic and I want to know how I can be a good ally, so I thought I'd ask about certain things mentioned in the post so i can avoid doing them! What are person first language and functioning labels and what can I do as an allistic to be an actual ally (not an “Ally"™)? Thanks so much!

okay, first of all, I’m going to assume that you meant [this post]. If not, sorry. Second, I’m not going to get this perfect. I’m viewing this as a bit of a first draft, which (note to self) I will edit at some point.

definitions: person-first language is “person with autism” as opposed to “autistic person”. Please use “autistic person”. I dealt with functioning labels later in this disorganized hell-post.

So here’s my stab at allistic ally 101

1) You follow the same rules as if you were an ally for any other group: [Here’s a pretty good ally 101 article], but it’s not the end-all-be-all. Keep listening to autistic voices, and if we contradict the rules hold our voices higher.

Also, above all, rule #1 of allyship is don’t be a shithead–come to conversations with the intention to listen and learn first and treat us like human beings (this is particularly critical with disability rights)

2) Our voices are the important ones: this is important with being an ally to any group, but autistic people often struggle to communicate or express ourselves. Be patient. Ask people how they’d like to communicate and be prepared to be a bit flexible.

Some autistic people use AAC (Alternative or Assistive Communication), and their voices matter just as much as verbal people’s. You don’t have to learn ASL or anything, but don’t assume that because someone’s not communicating verbally they’re less intelligent or competent. And, even if someone can’t communicate using language (or communicate at all) don’t assume that they don’t have thoughts, feelings, and needs.

3) Nothing about us without us: knowing an autistic person doesn’t make you an expert on autism. BEING an autistic person makes you an expert on autism. If you see anything claiming to help autistic people that doesn’t prominently feature Actual Autistic People, don’t support it (unless Actual Autistic People are telling you to support it, see #2)

This goes double for any charitable organization focused on autism which leads me into point number 4 (also from here on out things are a bit smaller-scope, that doesn’t make them less important):

4) Autism Speaks is trash: [and] [here] [are] [some] [sources

If you want to support charities try ASAN and The Autism Women’s Network

5) Please don’t try to “cure” us: I’m dealing with some internalized ableism with this one, so let me turn you over to  Anya Ustaszewski who in [this article] writes:

My autism is part of who I am. It is not something “extra” that can be taken away from me to suit the agenda of an intolerant society. My abilities, challenges and perception of the world all go hand in hand. If I were to be “cured” of my autism, the person that I am would cease to exist.

so yeah cure = bad, acceptance and accommodation = good

6) Celebrate the things that make autistics unique: lately, tumblr has gotten a lot more stim-positive, but stimming isn’t solely a pretty, paint-mixing or slime video (in fact, stimboards are rarely tagged and can overstimulate the SHIT out of me).

A lot of time, stimming is viewed as ugly, distracting, loud, disgusting, or socially unacceptable. Support your local autistics, don’t expect people to stop stimming and try not to stare or comment (many autistic people have to work very hard to reclaim stimming after childhoods of expecting to suppress it entirely).

Also, try your best to support different cognitive styles and processing issues. Try to keep your websites accessible, provide image transcripts, try not to make posts that are entirely text in images (like screenshots of twitter posts), and help to subtitle videos if you can. <- these things also help d/Deaf people and anyone who accesses the internet via a screenreader

7) steer clear of stereotypes: I’m not rain man or that dude on the big bang theory or your cousin’s dentist’s sister’s younger brother’s son. The ‘idiot savant’ stereotype is almost never true and puts unreasonable expectations on autistic people. Also, not all of us are good at math or science, have incredible memories, etc. Fitting or not fitting stereotypes don’t change the fact that every autistic person is human and deserves rights and respect.

8) functioning labels are fake: never listen to anyone who describes autism as “high” or “low functioning”. Every autistic person has struggles, and putting labels on functioning basically sorts people into “can be ignored” and “subhuman”. [here’s about a million posts about why they suck because if I put it all here this post would be five times as long]

9) ABA is trash: this is trigger territory for a huge number of autistic people, so [here] and I’m not going to say anything else just take my word on this one

10) If it has puzzle pieces on it, run: if you’re looking to see if a group is okay, look for the rainbow infinity sign. The puzzle piece is a huge red flag. Please don’t support anything with puzzle pieces on it. Please. I’m begging you.

Okay that was WAAY longer than I meant it to get, sorry. Also, I’ve missed a bunch of things, but I’ve been working on this for an hour and I don’t have the energy to add more. I’ll throw this in #actuallyautistic and hopefully someone else can add anything important I missed.

This is one of the most clear (audio and visual) videos I’ve seen of Anti at the PAX Panel. I’m NOT saying any other videos are bad! But what I love most about this is we get to see the audience reaction well before Anti even arrived.

I also noticed this image (and extremely hard to capture, even on .25 speed) before Anti’s entrance:

All the more spooks (this is a creepy image)! And another thank you for the awesome job @therealjacksepticeye and @pixlpit did putting this together!!

You guys gave us a terrifying October ending with an epic ‘Halloween Takeover’ that we are still talking about and won’t forget soon- and now this before Jack’s solo panel. It’s amazing!

But (not just for Anti) thanks for all your dedication and effort to the channel, and to us. It’s really appreciated :)

For real though, some tips on writing aromantic characters, since… I guess if I’m going to complain about lack of representation so much I might as well try to steer people in the right direction. Keep in mind that this is all just my opinion and I am only one aro, so take it with a grain of salt

  • The definition of aromantic is that you don’t experience romantic attraction. So basically, to put it simply, you don’t get crushes. That’s literally it. Of course like all orientations it’s a bit more nuanced than that and experiences differ from person to person, but it’s important to keep in mind that basic definition.
  • It’s important to remember that aromantic people are just that: people. “Aromantic” is an orientation, not a personality trait. An aro person could be Ken the loudmouthed delinquent skater dudebro, or your overly affectionate friend Misty who wears pastel colors and loves cartoons and shoujo anime, or Goth Loli-chan in accounting. Literally anyone could be aro, so write aro characters as people first and foremost, aro second.
  • “But how can aromantic people be caring?” “Won’t you be lonely?” “How can you ever love anyone?” Friendship exists. Seriously. The spectrum of human emotions is not confined to romance, and platonic love is very much a thing. Think about the Elric brothers, or hell, even Spongebob and Patrick are a good example of a strong platonic relationship. (And before someone comes in here like “Lol but I ship them though”- fuckin good for you that’s not what this is about.)
  • Try to avoid stereotypes such as aromantic people being emotionless, lonely/reclusive, children, having some sort of superiority complex over non-aro people (Seriously we don’t hate people who aren’t aro??), or being some sort of sex demons. I would recommend staying away from overly stoic or cold characters.
“But wait! Aren’t you constantly advocating for aromantic Jotaro Kujo, who is the very definition of stoic and rude?” Yes, because I relate to him a lot, and see in him- a pre-existing character who was not created to be aro- traits I associate with my own aromanticism. There is a big difference between me, an aro person, seeing myself in a character as opposed to a non-aromantic person being like “This character is aromantic, so I’ll make them emotionally distant” or “This character is a jerk who has no friends so they must be aromantic”. Don’t do that.
  • Some aromantics may hate the very idea of romance, and become uncomfortable or irrationally angry when exposed to it. (This does not make them bad people, you fuckheads.) Some may not care, and some may love the idea of romance, ship a lot, love Valentine’s Day, etc.
  • Being aromantic and not asexual does not necessarily make someone sexually promiscuous. You can be an aromantic who’s not asexual and still be a total virgin. As stated before, literally all aromantic means is that you don’t experience romantic attraction. It does not mean everything is automatically wild partying and one-night stands. I mean, sure, there are aromantic people like that out there, but it’s not the default.
  • Yes, there are many different ways to be aromantic. You can be aromantic and not asexual. Some aromantic people may be willing to go on dates or may have been in previous romantic relationships. Some aromantic people may even occasionally experience romantic attraction. HOWEVER, this does NOT mean you should use this as an excuse to write them as part of your ship anyway.
Think about it: If an aromantic person wants to read a ship fic, or smut, there are thousands they could choose from. There are a lot less gen fic, even less good gen fic, and barely any fics that explicitly feature aromantic characters. We do not need more fics about romance. We DO need more fics featuring aromantic characters, you know, not being involved in romance.
  • Seriously, try to write aromantic characters in stories that don’t involve too much romance. I mean sure, you can have them in a story that also happens to include a romantic relationship NOT as the main focus, but please don’t include an aromantic character as a third wheel or whatever in your OTP fic and then be all “Look guys! I made aro representation!” As an aromantic person surrounded by romance, I really don’t want to have to sit through ANOTHER ship fic just for the one line where someone’s like “Ew you guys are gross”.
And especially don’t write fics that are just about someone falling in love with an aromantic character and oh, woe is me, they can never return my love! I’ve been rejected! Alack! Alay! My love has a heart of stone! Yeah, don’t do that. Like most of us don’t feel bad enough about being aro already. Please, don’t.
  • I’m serious, I just really want to see aro characters in fics that don’t focus on romance. Also, do NOT pull the whole “____ had never had a crush and felt like they could never love anyone! …Until _____ came along, and they knew what love was!” That’s really pretty hurtful tbh.

lance: (sitting alone in the rec room, chin in hands)

keith: (at the door) hey, okay if i come in

lance: what— oh, yeah

keith: (walking in with his hands behind his back) so, coran said you were feeling sad about missing another earth holiday

lance: oh … yeah (laughs awkwardly) it’s, it’s ridiculous, don’t worry about it

keith: no, it’s. it’s not. um. actually (takes a piece of red paper out from behind his back, and hands it to him) this is for you.

lance: (looks at him and then at the paper) (takes it) (it’s a heart that says “to: lance. love, keith.”) is. is this a card?

keith: i, i just thought since at the garrison—

lance: (smiling) you made me something for valentine’s day

keith: —you used to give cards to everybody, so

lance: thank you keith :)

keith: (pauses) yeah. no problem. (turns around) okay. bye.

lance: h-hey, wait (stands up)

keith: (turns back around)

lance: um. aren’t you gonna let me thank you (steps closer to him)

keith: um. you did just thank me.

lance: (hesitates) right. uh, i guess, i just. meant. like. (leans foward, and gently kisses the side of keith’s face) like that

keith:

lance: (smiles shyly at him) thanks, valentine

keith: (blushing furiously) yeah. no problem.

lance: (laughing softly) you said that already

keith: oh. right. um. (pauses) do i … kiss you back now

lance: (raising his brows) if you … want to

keith: (puts his hand on lance’s shoulder and returns the kiss to lance’s cheek, lingering close to him a bit longer than lance had) you’re welcome, lance (then he smiles, lets go, and leaves)

Bring It Back

A/N: So for some reason I’m super stocked about sharing this. I have an idea for a part two involving some smutty, smutty action, so let me know if you’re down for that. I would love feedback on this one. Also I know the year doesn’t match what happened in reality, but it’s fiction so I can change it.

From y/n: Your mom said you were back in town? Want to meet up for coffee?

You felt your heart race only half a second after you sent the message. Today was the day. Today was the day to tell Shawn how you really felt about him. He’d been gone for months and you’d spend those months debating whether or not come clean, but this was draining you to keep in and you weren’t sure how much longer you could bare it.
