this is like the bold and the beautiful

Confessions: A New Kind of Love

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:34-35)

Does our love for one another give us away? Does it turn heads? The world is meant to know who we are by our love for one another – that we are Jesus’ disciples because we mimic His love.
Our love should be like His: strong, powerful, bold, courageous, humble, kind, serving, submissive, genuine, true and holy.

A new command!
One unlike any other because up until that point there had been no other love. Never before had God given such a powerful and beautiful demonstration of who He is. A new command for a new love; an eternal command for an eternal love.

Lord fill me with that kind of love!

-31 Women (Nan)

her colors are muted and she looks tired.
‘holding up,’ she says,
and i’m just holding up too but god, this contrast;
light and dark,
soft and bold,
melancholy and anger,
beauty and the furthest thing from it.
she is unsettling, yet…
not in a bad way.
not at all.

and she is lovely.
her eyes are gentle,
blue like twilight
(and i understand for the first time why
they’re supposed to be the windows to the soul).
her hair is not spun gold
and she doesn’t shine like the sun;
she is the moon in all its glory.
the kind of light she carries cannot be explained–
it’s in her bones and the way she walks,
and the way she speaks.
soft,
like she doesn’t want to be seen or heard.

but she is beautiful.

god built the universe
with a voice like that.

hunk’s mama: hunk is almost two years old and he still hasn’t said anything yet… do you think we should be worried? do- are we bad parents?

hunk’s mama: (sighs) you’re right, of course. but you know me. i’ve never been able to let things lie, i always have to tinker with them. i know i shouldn’t project my own insecurities onto our baby, but…

hunk’s mom: babe, you’re not the first parent to overthink themselves, and you won’t be the last. maybe we’ve just been approaching this all wrong! we’ve only ever talked at hunk… what if we tried to have a conversation with him, or something?

hunk’s mama: it’s worth a shot.

hunk’s mama: (squats down next to hunk) hunk? baby? do you think you could say something, just for mama? i’m sad that i still haven’t heard your beautiful voice.

hunk: (continues sucking on hand)

hunk’s mom: … sorry, honey. it was a longshot anyway-

hunk: (removes hand from mouth) i’m sorry, mama. i didn’t realize i was making you sad ‘cause i don’t like talking. i’ll try to talk more though if you want me to!

Aspects To Mercury: The Art of Communication

An interest in Mercury has sparked me tonight, so I would like to make a post about the aspects to it; how planets can modify and add to its power whether it be psychically modified by Neptune or artistically modified by Venus, Mercury gives us something very special. Our minds are gifts, each and every mind has its ways. With planetary aspects to Mercury, we get insight on how we put our element to work.
Note: I’m excluding the Sun from this post as I already put it here and the only major aspect it can make is the conjunction.

Mercury and Moon; the Expressive Mind

Mercury Conjunct Moon
The mind and emotions work together, although, one may dominate the other depending on the sign they are in (obviously if the moon is in a more complementary sign for it, it will dominate Mercury and vice versa). Speaking their emotions may be easy for them. Makes them witty and talkative, very expressive in the way they communicate, it is very easy to read their emotions based on the way they speak to you.

Mercury Trine/Sextile Moon
The mind and emotion are in complete harmony. The power of emotions can be put into thoughts, words, and writing very easily for this individual. This is an excellent placement for writers or any area that may require emotion into expressing ideas so things aren’t all robotic. Very perceptive and expressive.

Mercury Square Moon
The complete opposite of the harmonious aspects. The mind and emotions are at conflict with each other. Emotions need to be controlled wherever Mercury is sitting in (check the house). Decisions may be based on emotions, needs to be more reasonable. Needs to stop switching between rational and irrational feelings. Easy attitude adjustment can fix this. On the positive side, carries unconditional love.

Mercury Opposite Moon
Opposition usually represent outer forces. Opt to be the victim of gossip and criticism. Should also not be the cause of gossip and criticism themselves as it will create more karmic debt. Like the square, could have issues with being reasonable. Needs some attitude adjustments. Likely to be very nervous and restless too often. May likely possess some of the positive traits from the harmonious aspects making them good writers.

Mercury and Venus; the Artistic Mind

Note: Venus can only ever be 78 degrees apart from Mercury. We are always aware of the power of love in our mind, thus they cannot be separated too much. The only major aspects it can make are the conjunction and the sextile. It can make minor aspects semi-sextile (harmonious), quintile (harmonious), and semi-square (inharmonious), but the orbs on them would have to be extremely tight to be noticeable and I have not researched enough on those aspects to feel comfortable spreading too much information on them. You can get a basic idea that the semi-sextile is similar to sextile, but just a minor form of it and a semi-square is similar to the square, but a minor form of it. Quintiles symbolize awareness or lack there of; things we do without realizing. Aaaand I’ve rambled on, but maybe you guys learned something new.

Mercury Conjunct Venus
The mind is very refined and artistic. Soft and charming. Ideas and voice can be almost hypnotizing. Very friendly when unafflicted. Speaks beauty so effortlessly.

Mercury Sextile Venus
Great placement for musicians; it combines the mind with artistic abilities. Very artistic. Friendly, charming, and social, may come off a little fake though.

Mercury and Mars; the Passionate Mind

Mercury Conjunct Mars
Mental process is passionate, aggressive, and fiery (especially if the planets are in fiery signs). Can make the individual sharp tongued, sarcastic, and blunt. When discussing passion for something, the energy is likely to be extremely bold unless other placements can tone down this fiery force.

Mercury Trine/Sextile Mars
Put mind into action. Extremely passionate about their ideas and arguments. They love to argue. The mind seems to always be working. A new day is a new opportunity for these people. Maybe blunt and sarcastic.

Mercury Square Mars
Hot-tempered, too blunt, and too sarcastic. Must stabilize their animal-like ways to fix aggression. Control the rudeness.

Mercury Opposite Mars

Unlike the square, these people are likely to encounter people like the square especially if the planets are tied to the seventh house; be sure to check all houses though, because, personal houses affect the individual internally whereas a very public house such as the tenth house has to do with aggressive outer forces trying to balance karma again. Great potential and ambition. Passion is still there like the harmonious aspects.

Mercury and Jupiter; the Good Spirited Mind

Mercury Conjunct Jupiter
Jupiter gives the mind some philosophical links. Very generous and jovial. Humorous, optimistic, and intelligent minded. Mind is kind of lazy, may need Mars to give it a push for bigger goals. The mind find interest in literature, art, and religion. Its good nature leads simpleness to the individual’s life, you could even say their life is easy, but it may just be because they hardly wish to act upon big opportunities. They are always quite content.

Mercury Trine/Sextile Jupiter
Very intelligent and wise despite the age the individual may be. Makes for a great teacher. Like the conjunction, strong interests in the areas of literature, art, and religion. May hold strong faith. Contagious optimism.

Mercury Square Jupiter
Good spirited and easy to speak to. The mind tends to procrastinate and be forgetful. Difficulty with rejecting and tend to be “yes-men.” Money smart. Superstition, but skeptical towards religion. If Jupiter lacks good aspects with other personal planets, judgement may be poor. Has a hard time keeping secrets if this aspect is prominent. Difficulty with pulling together mental resources quickly when being questioned or argued with.

Mercury Opposite Jupiter
How this aspect acts will really depend on what signs Mercury and Jupiter are in. It is mental activity versus all areas Jupiter manifests. May be seen as a difficult aspect in fixed signs as it creates stubbornness in the matters of truthfulness. Other than that, it can possess many of the traits the harmonious trine or sextile carries.

Mercury and Saturn; the Serious Mind

Mercury Conjunct Saturn
Very serious, unless Venus or Jupiter loosens the individual. If Saturn is something that is very prominent and persistent in the individual’s chart, they may be gloomy or pessimistic. Deep thinker. Tendency to loneliness if self-centred thoughts are expressed. Make good teachers as they are very orderly and strict. Through hard work, they will see great success.

Mercury Trine/Sextile Saturn
Practical, intelligent, responsible, ambitious. Likely to have grown up well disciplined. Their minds are very good at absorbing knowledge. Great self control. A favourable aspect to have for good physical health as Saturn gives strength to bones.

Mercury Square Saturn
A polar opposite to the trine/sextile. May not be so great where education is concerned. The mind is just not very good at absorbing knowledge like the harmonious aspect is. Squares are to teach us to be persistent. Where gaining knowledge is difficult, the individual needs to be patient and overcome this difficulty. Learn how to improve memory skills and studying habits. Avoid depressive thoughts of “I can’t do this” and stay away from bad habits.

Mercury Opposite Saturn
Brings lack of communication and issues from outer forces, especially family and relatives when aspected to the 3rd, 4th, or 7th house. Brings on feelings of being uncared for. Early life is generally unhappy and disrupted where education is concerned, but as they get older, intelligence and success should come their way. Feeling limited is only temporary. If Saturn is prominent in the individual’s chart, they are likely to be very serious and distrusting.

Mercury and Uranus; the Genius Mind

Mercury Conjunct Uranus
Mercury and Uranus work together like PB & J. You could easily call an individual with this aspect a genius as they can easily come up with new concepts and ideas. Their minds think on a whole other level. Will and mind is strong.

Mercury Trine/Sextile Uranus
Originality and extraordinary intelligence. Inventive, keen, quick minded, especially in air signs. Excellent communicators. Independent and even a bit eccentric.

Mercury Square Uranus
Although a square, does not lack intelligence. Probably just as original and intelligent as the conjunction, but attitude is somewhere else. Very independent, kind of snappy, sarcastic, and blunt. If lacks harmonious aspects to Venus, they may need to learn how to speech more gently. The independent mastermind, maybe too independent.

Mercury Opposite Uranus
Needs to control their erratic tendencies as although they can gain some things for this individual, they can also bring sudden loss. By checking what houses are associated with this aspect, you can see where the spontaneous behaviour is being expressed. Nervous and impatient, still opt to be intelligent.

Mercury and Neptune; the Dreamy Mind

Mercury conjunct Neptune
Of course with such a strong aspect to Neptune, the individual is going to have some difficulty with the reality of things. Fact and myth sometimes just blurs into a singular meaning. If lacks aspects to Saturn, likely to live more in the mythical land versus reality. Romantic and a wishful thinker. Sensitive and psychic. Needs to work on focus. Great aspect for musicians and poets.

Mercury Trine/Sextile Neptune
This quote best describes this placement better than I ever could, “Inspirational, poetic, and creative mind, Aptitude for psychic and mystical fields. Can benefit from dreams and visions. Practical idealist. Is able to use his inspirational powers constructively. Exquisite sensitivity toward the subtler aspects of life. Strong love of the sea and should live near it. Has the ability to contact higher planes of consciousness in sleep and in meditation and bring instruction through to the conscious mind.” - Astrology, A Cosmic Science

Mercury Square Neptune
Again, we are to learn from squares, they build strength. An individual with this aspect needs to learn to focus and take off the rose-filtered glasses. Needs to be more honest and direct. Thoughts need to be more clear. Psychic ability may be there, but also may cause difficulties. Deception brings on more deception; its the way karma works. May be as sneaky as a snake, but karma will get them eventually and it won’t be good. No more lies and unnecessary secretiveness. Truth brings truth.

Mercury Opposite Neptune
Great imagination, but may need to be reminded of what is real. Quite emotional, a lot of mental activity based on emotions. Should be careful of deceptive people; don’t put your guard down. Check what houses are associated with this aspect so you know where the deception could come from.

Mercury and Pluto; the Perceptive Mind

Mercury Conjunct Pluto
The aspects brings that ability to bring the unconscious mind into thoughts and words. a great aspect for investigators or anything that requires careful research. You could say their mind is very penetrating, it can pierce through the unknown. The individual has to some degree, the power to manipulate. They are very perceptive and know exactly what to say to a person to trigger specific thoughts and emotions. Some individuals may use their ‘powers’ for negative purposes.

Mercury Trine/Sextile Pluto
Similar to the conjunction, but not likely to use their ability to obtain power like the conjunction might. This individual is logical and original.

Mercury Square Pluto
Skeptical and impatient. May not be as perceptive as the harmonious aspects, so they need to slow down, especially when reading people’s gestures. The obsession for knowing the unknown for power-related reasons is common with this aspect.

Mercury Opposite Pluto
This individual can sometimes be oversensitive. Feels lonely ever when clearly not; lack of contentment in groups of friends. Constantly feeling of needing to self-improve to seek inner contentment. Needs to think carefully before making judgement or decisions. On the positive side, these people have great motivation to their desires. They will work for them.

Why I need Chicana feminism

Because I was taught to stay away from certain styles because they were too “mexican”. With phrases like “the bigger the hoop, the bigger the hole” when I loved wearing big earrings. Being told that red hair against my brown skin looked “ghetto” instead of fierce and bold. Wearing stylish flannels like the pretty pastel haired girls on tumblr and being told I look like a “chola”. Working hard to get rid of my slang because society taught me that it was “unflattering”. That bright red lips were too much. That my natural intense brows are now a makeup “fad”. When in reality all this shit was made up by people that want to put us down for claiming our own identity.

Makeup artist grantaire, maybe stage/theater

Listen: Grantaire as a makeup artist in the fashion industry.

All the creators WANT HIM because he’s so talented at what he does. He’s totally against that “hide people’s flaws behind makeup like a mask” bullshit. Grantaire sees beauty and magnifies it. Fashion designers call him the Michelangelo of make up and fight over who will manage to get him to work for them.

Grantaire has been working with Jehan lately, a new upcoming designer in the ashion industry, who impresses everybody with their bold choices, colour patterns and fabric associations. Everything Jehan was called weird for wearing before is now trendy and visionary. Plus, Jehan defies expectations by breaking gender barriers and working with models who don’t fit the runway’s standards.

So Grantaire goes to work one day, and there’s this new model who’s just started working with Jehan. Rumour has it he used to work with Dior and Yves Saint Laurent, but he ended his contract to work with Jehan, because their beliefs aligned perfectly. His name is Enjolras, and Grantaire is convinced he’s seen him on billboards before. But that was nothing compared to reality.

Grantaire has never seen someone that breath-takingly beautiful before. The new model’s divine, in an actually god-like way. Grantaire tries to keep it cool and shakes his hand, invites him to sit, the way things are usually done, but his throat has gone completely dry.

They’re here to determine which makeup style suits Enjolras best. It’s the standard procedure when a new model is hired. As ever, Grantaire tries to cover his nervousness but thinking out loud and talking, so the two of them end up having a conversation revolving mainly about makeup. Grantaire’s almost done when Enjolras asks him:

“So why did you choose to become makeup artist?”

Grantaire shrugs.

“I guess when you’re fuck ugly you just want to compensate by making something beautiful.”

That kind of answer usually weird people out. But Enjolras simply looks at him, all gold and eyeliner, glitter shining on his lips:

“You have beautiful eyes.”

Grantaire’s heart skips a beat. He does not fall in love so much as he plunges head first into it

what I really love about Fran Fine as a character is that in any other show she would be the comic relief, a two-dimensional bit character who makes occasional appearances and has zero character growth or plot relevance (kinda like Janice from Friends tbh).

But in The Nanny, she is the heroine! A brassy, bold, Jewish girl with a loud voice, working-class accent, and “tacky” clothes. And she always stays true to her roots, never abandoning her family or toning down her look to be more accepted with the uppercrust. Maxwell is the one who lets her into his life and changes his staid, buttoned-up traditional ways after falling in love with the nanny. She is not an MPDG either, the show focuses on her journey and her growth.

That is really beautiful to me.

5 Times Pie Would Have Saved the Day in Classic Literature

It is a truth universally acknowledged that pie is beautiful and delicious, and classic novels are full of characters gritting through their complicated, difficult lives. But what if these characters had a heartwarming slice of pie? Things could have been very different…

1. Captain Ahab. Was ever a man more in need of a slice of coconut cream pie? Like the giant whale Moby Dick, coconut cream pie is large and white, but far less likely to induce unholy fury and a life-shattering revenge spree. Plus, Ahab would have to sail to some beautiful tropic isle to obtain the requisite coconuts, and a balmy tropic vacation could only do good things for his chilly temper.

2. Scarlett O’Hara. This feisty Southern belle has demonstrated time and again that she won’t give her heart away easily. The only solution to her inevitable loneliness is a cherry pie as bold, classic, and all-American as Scarlett herself.

3. Dorian Gray. Rich, dreamy, and devilishly smooth. Are we describing Dorian Gray or a chocolate silk pie? You don’t know, and that’s why they’re the perfect match. Perhaps if Dorian had been able to channel the passions of his youth into eating chocolate pies, he wouldn’t have turned out as dark and bitter as a Ghiradelli 86% cacao bar. Just sayin’.

4. Miss Havisham. Jilted at the altar. Left alone with her misery in a rotting home. Surrounded for years by reminders of her thwarted romance. This woman needs some SUNSHINE in her life, for goodness’ sake! No pie is better suited to the task than a cheery lemon meringue. Its pillowy meringue, sunny yellow curd, and buttery crust are enough to make anyone clear out the cobwebs and start spring cleaning.

5. Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy. Look, man. We know you tried. But heading into a proposal with the general game plan of “Insult family, point out her inferiority, bring up class difference, overwhelm her with ardent love” was a pretty poor strategy, all things considered. Imagine how things might have gone over with Elizabeth B. if you had shown up, casually, with a steaming rhubarb pie. You could have told her her that the bold tartness of the rhubarb reminds you of her stinging wit, but that you believe she could also be subtly sweet. Things could have gone so much better for you, Darcy.

But, since you botched the first proposal attempt, maybe you should go practice swimming in the lake at Pemberley. Don’t ask us why.

four down

Summary: In which Nico gets his wisdom teeth removed (as well as a couple inhibitions) and Will’s just trying to get them both home without crashing the car.

By the time Will walks into the operating room, Nico’s already upright, sitting straight-backed in the dentist’s chair and tapping his hands on his knees in a sharply quick rhythm. Will suppresses a smile at the way Nico’s looking at the nurse as she gently opens his mouth to put gauze in, like he’s not sure whether all this is fight-or-flight worthy or absolutely hilarious.

“None of you are listening!” Kara yelled at the assembled women trying to save the world. “You know what? If you don’t need my ideas, you’re welcome to go fight the Daxamites by yourself.” She zipped across the room fast enough to blur, almost tearing the door to the fire exit off its hinges in her temper.

Alex moved to follow, but Cat waved her off.

“Agent Scully, keep an eye on Norma Bates here,” Cat nodded towards Lillian. “Supergirl and I are due for a catchup.” Her heels clicked across the floor as she followed in Kara’s wake. Those would have to be changed out for flats if she really would be expected to venture out in the field with them. That suggestion had been the reason for Kara’s outburst, or at least the last straw across her unbreakable back.

“Go away, Alex,” Kara grumbled, landing blows on a cleaner than average dumpster.

“Last I checked your sister wasn’t wearing Gianvitto Rossi heels. Need that superhearing checked?”

“I’m not going to allow it, so don’t start with me, Cat.”

“Allow?” Cat stepped in closer, wrinkling her nose at the mess in the alley. She made exceptions for Kara all the time, but really. “That chucklehead from Dixon has really done a number on you, if you think a grown woman has to be allowed to do any damn thing she wants. I’ll be a decoy if I’m needed, Kara.”

“Have you heard about Carrie Fisher?”
I’m asked. Of course, it’s me
The token Star Wars fan
Of course I’ve heard about Carrie Fisher.

Have you heard about Carrie Fisher?
The first princess who ever felt like me?
The damsel in distress who rescued her rescuers?
The real life woman who never apologised for being who she was?

Have you heard about Carrie Fisher?
Who shared her personal stories
Of depression, addiction, being bipolar?
Who reminded us all we were more than our illness?

Have you heard about Carrie Fisher?
Who fought back against media misogyny
Who proved to the world beauty is ageless
Who didn’t stop making the world smile up until the last?

Have you heard about Carrie Fisher?
The woman who burned brighter than us all in the darkest of times
Who threw stigma out the window and told it like it was
Who connected with and treated fans like extended family?

Who lives on in the heart and bite of every single girl and woman?
Who never let the world bring her down?
Who was crass and bold and wonderful and alive?
Who never stopped fighting?
Who will never be forgotten?
Who will always be cherished with all our hearts?

Who always has been
And always will be
A hero?

“Have you heard about Carrie Fisher?”
I’m asked. “Of course,”
I say.
“But have you?”

anonymous asked:

This is really silly, but if the Phantom Thieves were dogs, what breed would everyone be?

I’m sorry, I think you typed ‘silly’ when you meant to type ‘adorable’ lol. Thank you for such a cute request!! ^^ I hope you like it!

Akira:

  • Akira seems like he’d be a… Siberian Husky!
  • He’s loyal, mischievous, and extremely intelligent.
  • Resourcefulness and craftiness are also common traits that Akira shares with this breed.
  • Huskies are also very adaptable, and they only require the bare minimum amount of food despite their size. In the game, it’s implied that Akira doesn’t eat much. :(
  • Much like the breed, Akira’s also a bit of a socialite, and he’s willing to lend a hand to those in need.
  • He’s got a thick head of hair, too, and it’s very fluffy and soft.

Ryuji:

  • Everything about Ryuji screams… Shiba Inu!
  • Shibas are quite finicky upon first meeting strangers, but when they become more acquainted with people, they are very upbeat and loyal.
  • It’s similar to Ryuji, since he comes off as slightly hostile and suspicious. However, he is fiercely devoted to his friends after he grows and fights with them.
  • He is a very good boy.
  • Ryuji, like a Shiba, is very strong-willed, and he enjoys being active.
  • Training and educating Shibas is actually quite complicated; they can be ‘stubborn’, and they’ll only do things on their own terms or when they feel like it.
  • Sound familiar?

Ann:

  • This might have been predictable, but Ann seems to be a… Poodle!
  • Similar to a Poodle, she is somewhat standoffish toward strangers and protective of those she loves.
  • At times, Ann can act playful with her loved ones, and she marches to the beat of her own drum with her head held high. i am proud
  • They come off as ‘superficial’ or ‘fake’, but Poodles are abundantly loyal and loving once you get to know them.
  • Plus, both Ann and Poodles have great hair!

Yusuke:

  • Yusuke is definitely going to be a… Borzoi!
  • Borzois are tall and nimble; other traits to note are their sensibility, intelligence, and quiet demeanor.
  • Also like Borzois, Yusuke is known to have an independent way of thinking, and he has a tendency to be quite stubborn.
  • He isn’t very shy when it comes to expressing himself, and he’s trusting of people that are close to him.
  • Yusuke’s also very sleek and docile, much like the breed.
  • A beautiful and pleasant boy.

Makoto:

  • Makoto strikes me as a… Doberman!
  • We all know she’s extremely intelligent as well as incredibly agile.
  • She’s protective of her loved ones, but she’s not aggressive or violent unless prompted.
  • Similar to Dobermans, Makoto’s quick to catch on and she likes to keep herself busy.
  • She’s also a natural leader, and she’ll act very cute with people she’s close to.
  • Honestly, she’s just wonderful.

Futaba:

  • Futaba is going to be a… Papillon!
  • She’s excitable, independent, and has a reputation for being mischievous with those she’s close to.
  • Not to mention she’s absolutely brilliant, and bold when she wants to be.
  • Papillons can be quite alert; that trait is a necessity for Futaba considering her position on the team. She’ll also utilize that when she’s in public and constantly on her guard.
  • She’s very reliable, so she’ll definitely guide her teammates on the right path.
  • Great hair.

Haru:

  • A great breed for Haru would be a… Maltese!
  • She’s got such a sweet, gentle temperament, which is the most notable trait in this breed.
  • Haru’s well-learned too, and she’s fearless in dangerous situations.
  • She was raised to be docile and composed, but she’s very affectionate for the people she trusts most.
  • Hints of playfulness can be seen in Haru throughout the game; she giggles so much. if you listen closely you can hear me faint every time
