An Indigenous actress was told to her face that she couldn’t audition for Tiger Lily because they didn’t want the character to be Native anymore.
So until Hollywood stops discriminating at casting calls and allows people of color their fair shot in this business I don’t want to see anymore white people being held up as the best in the business in defense of whitewashing.
Things I want white mentally ill people to acknowledge (that is if they genuinely care about wanting to be allies. Those that are blatantly racist will ignore this regardless of what I say, lol):
yes, mental illness can and does affect everyone. but no, the way mental illness is diagnosed and treated does not fall along equal lines. like physical health and physical medical care, it is delineated by race, class, and gender, which means people of color, particularly working-class people of color, have the least access to mental health care and resources.
yes, ableism is a problem, and we need to avoid it at all costs, but calling out and criticizing racism is not ableist. assuming that all people of color are neurotypical is both racist AND ableist. finally, using mental illness as an excuse to be racist is rife with ableism itself because you posit that mentally ill people are inherently going to be bigoted (and you also ignore the intersection of race and mental health).
on that note, using your mental illness and past traumatic experiences as political currency is awful, especially when you’re using it to justify your own racism. people of color making jokes about white people is not ableist. people of color refusing to engage with your racism is not ableist. people of color calling you out for your racism is not ableist. people of color using terms that are specific to their racial/ethnic groups is not ableist. people of color prioritizing each other is not ableist. finally, pretending that only white people can be victims of trauma is incredibly racist.
acknowledge that because of white supremacy, people of color are at a higher risk for mental illness and trauma while also contending with little to no federal help or attention and with under-diagnosis. acknowledge that culturally and racially specific programs for mental health are necessary because the way kids of color deal with mental health is very different from how white kids deal with it. culture is very much a part of mental health and mental illness.
sociological and academic terms like “white guilt”, “white sociopathy”, “white anxiety”, and “white delusion” are NOT ableist terms. those are very specific terms used to describe systemic phenomenon - that white people do not see people of color as human, and thus are unable to empathize with us, they project their own guilt onto us in often violent ways, and they manifest their inherent hatred and fear of us in violent ways. you cannot be a good racial ally if you hate these terms or think that they don’t apply to you. i hate to break it to you, but they apply to all white people.
on that note, but opening your mouth and screaming “ableist! this information is inaccessible!” the minute a woman of color uses specific sociological terms to describe racism is fraught with racialized misogyny. women of color have to do far more to succeed in academic spaces whereas white people, and yes even white mentally ill people, don’t have to contend with those obstacles. and obviously rhetoric should be accessible - that is absolutely right - but blaming women of color for using terms that rich white neurotypical men came up with and popularized is ridiculous. especially because women of color are not taken seriously whether they’re being angry and “unacademic” or whether they’re being academic and “pretentious”.
if you don’t see the trauma enacted by white supremacy as an actual form of trauma, you’re racist. things like weathering and intergenerational trauma exist and those are specific forms of trauma caused by RACISM.
cry-typing when you’re called out for being racist, saying that you don’t have the “spoons” to talk about or learn about racism, saying that posts about racism cause you “anxiety” or “trigger” you, blatantly ignoring vile acts of racism because “um sweetie i don’t have to discuss this because my mental health is more important than your marginalization”, “being racist is my coping mechanism” or contrasting and juxtaposing yourself as “fragile/naive/soft/innocent/gentle” against “mean/aggressive/snobby/pretentious/scary” people of color is incredibly racist. white people have been conceptualizing people of color as scary and brutal and aggressive for centuries. congratulations on reinforcing your own racist socialization by dressing it up with some faux-progressive sjw mental health rhetoric!
These exercises can be done in two ways. You can either pick one paper up and try to guess what is on the paper, or you can think of a paper and try to find it in the pieces of paper. If you feel you need more pieces of paper by all means add more. If you work with deities, your higher self, spirits of any sorts, please feel free to invite them to help you with these exercises, if you’d like.
The number exercise: cut four, same sized pieces of paper with the numbers 1-4 written on them. Turn them downwards and mix them up. Pick one up and try to guess which number it is.
The shape exercise: cut four, same sized pieces of paper, and draw a star, a heart, a circle and a cube on them. Turn them downwards and mix them up. Pick one up and try to guess which shape it is.
The color exercise: cut four, same size pieces of paper, and add a different color to all of them. Turn them downwards and mix them up. Try to guess which paper has which color on them.
The quiz exercise: find a quiz online that you know nothing about - this may be a science quiz, a pop culture quiz, a quiz about a band, or the Viking history quiz. Take the quiz and try to guess the answers.
The object exercise: Get a older object, works best if it’s given by a friend do you and examine it. Try to pick up the objects energies and try to see/hear/smell the person that the object is tied to. It’s best done with a friend because they will most likely know some information about the person and they can tell if you’re right or wrong.
The card exercise: Pick one card up from a deck and try to see the color, the shape and the number of that card. You can also do this with tarot cards, try to feel the cards energies.
Divination: it’s a great exercise for enhancing your psychic abilities and the range of tools you can do divination with is enormous. So, find the one that calls to you and start divining.
In my experience these are the main exercises which you can sit and work on but they’re not the only ones. Intuition can be worked on throughout the day even in the most mundane tasks:
Try to guess who texted you or is calling you before you pick up the phone.
If other people cook for you, try to guess what you’re having for lunch before seeing it.
Try to pick up what your friend is going to tell you before they do.
Try to guess when the light is going to turn green at a traffic light.
Think of a person, and try seeing what they’re doing at the moment. After you’re done, ask them whatsup.
When talking to a friend on the phone try to see what they’re wearing, what their hair is like, and/or what they’re doing and ask them.
When you get up try to sense what the weather is going to be like today.
When at the store and you’re waiting in line try to sense how much the person before you needs to pay.
Tell a friend to think of a number and try to guess that number.
When listening to music on shuffle, try to sense what the next song is going to be.
When people close to you talk on the phone try and sense who they’re talking to and ask them afterwards. (only if they’re comfortable with it, not all people would like their privacy invaded, my friends and family know why I’m doing that so they’re cool with it)
Try to sense what a close friends text is saying before you open it, or try to sense why they’re calling you.
These are all I can think of a t the moment, hopefully in the future I’m going to add more. Basically anytime, anywhere when you have some space left to guess what’s going to happen, do it.
MEDITATION: I can’t stress how important meditation is, especially to witches, mages, shamans, and all occult practitioners in general. I know it sounds boring when people tell you to meditate but we all need some time to relax and clear our heads. And in the moments of blissful relaxation we let out soul speak to us the most thus coming into our strongest potential where we can energetically change our DNA and rewire our brains. In the moment of deep relaxation you can focus on cleansing your pineal gland / increasing your intuition.
I like to imagine purple/indigo color and lavender flowers coming out of my pineal gland spreading and covering my whole body and aura. I also like to imagine roots stretching from my pineal gland bursting through my forehead opening an eye in the centre of it. I like to massage the centre of my forehead, and I like taping an amethyst to it lol.
There are lots of guided meditations on youtube, which are extremely helpful, and there are lots of binaural beats and isochronic tones, which are also very helpful. Just find your comfort zone to working on the pineal gland and focus on it. Don’t feel bad if per say, isochronic tones don’t work for you but storm sounds do work. Find your comfort zone and work within it.
Also you might want to check out Sun Gazing, which is a very powerful exercise you’re going to need to dedicate yourself to.
Pineal gland detoxification:
Avoid ingesting fluoride - I know this is hard, seeing at the people on top put fluoride in literally everything knowing what it’s doing to our brains. But there are alternatives, the internet is a huge place and you can find almost everything there. Avoid fluoridated water, fluoridated toothpaste, GMO fruits and vegetables, soda, all artificial foods and drinks. Try to eat healthy and organically and if possible reduce eating meat - and cutting it off completely.
Avoid sleeping with technology in your room if possible - this means wireless routers, mobile phones, computers etc. The pineal gland is suppressed by electro magnetic fields.
Avoid or if you can, completely cut off all sugar, caffeine, tobacco, alcohol and drugs.
Once you’ve detoxified your body and pineal gland it’s time to start working on activating and boosting your pineal gland:
Spend time in sunlight every day - or as much as you can. Practice sungazing as well, and it is best done when the sun has risen or in the moments it’s going away because the sun is the weakest then and it can’t harm your eyes and it won’t bother you.
Oils and incense -
Sleep and meditate in complete darkness.
Commit to meditation every day.
Dedicate rituals to your third eye - whether it be a bath ritual, once in a full moon ritual, a day of the week ritual, or whenever you feel like it ritual, do it.
Practice yoga, especially Yoga Nidra as it is the most powerful yogic practice to increase the blood flow to your pineal gland.
Eat food that boosts the pineal gland - raw cocoa, coconut oil, lemon - the body’s best friend, basically the master of detox, garlic, raw apple cider vinegar, goji berries, watermelon, honey, hemp seeds, iodine, vitamin K1/K2, boron, bananas, alkaine food, chlorophyll rich foods, oregano oil, sea moss, walnuts, turmeric and melatonin.
Crystals that stimulate the pineal gland - amethyst, lapis lazuli, clear quartz, moonstone, sodalite. You can meditate with these crystals on your forehead daily, you can tape a crystal on your forehead and stay like that for a while, or you can massage your forehead with it.
Chant - there are a lot of chants to boost your pineal gland, you can google some, I’ve found that OM works best for me.
Plants that enhance intuition - ginger, gotu kola, ginkgo, skullcap, elder leaf, berries and flower, fennel, lavender, lemongrass, saffron, bay leaves, rosemary, honey suckle, anise, eyebright, lotus, mimosa, sandalwood, burning acacia, cinnamon, buchu leaves, celery, lilac, mint, mugwort, solomons leaf, frankincense, jasmine, lemon, peppermint, rose, sage, vanilla and star anise.
Oils - bay laurel, carrot seed, galbanum, german chamomile, grapefruit, myrrh, nutmeg, palo santo, petitgrain, roman chamomile, sandalwood, st. john’s wort, angelica root, eleni, juniper, frankincense, rosemary and patchouli.
And most important of all - trust your gut! The problem with not listening to our intuition is when our rational, logical mind interferes and tries to come up with logical solutions as to why your intuition is wrong. Whenever you get that gut feeling, just go with it, don’t question it. Also always remember to protect yourself when working on your pineal gland, seeing as we are more open and vulnerable to psychic attacks during these moments.
Crewniverse tricked us into thinking that Pink’s palanquin is a lot bigger than it is - same with Pink, herself. When Blue walks up to her own palanquin, it’s obvious that it’s just the right size for her.
But when she’s next to Pink’s, there are a LOT of optical illusions going on:
Blue was kneeling or crouching by it at first, making it look bigger.
When Blue stands up, she still looks shorter because she’s slouching.
The way the palanquin is leaning makes the roof look higher.
The flowers obscure the bottom, making it hard to see just how big it is.
The palanquin is on a hill, making it higher, and thus bigger-looking.
The legs are extended (the ones on Blue’s were retracted), making it higher.
In the above image, you can already see that Pink’s palanquin only comes to Blue’s shoulders. Let’s take a closer look and find out just how big it is:
Already we can see that the palanquin is a lot smaller than it initially looks. Let’s find out how much smaller Pink really is next to Blue.
So it looks like Pink is probably less than half as tall as Blue. Maybe about halfway up her thigh, give-or-take. Looks like Pink’s palanquin lends credence to:
The common theory that Pink is the newest Diamond.
If so, this would mean Pink is even newer than I thought! That would explain why Blue (and Eyeball and Holly Blue and even Yellow) seem to act as if Pink was especially precious: She’s just a little kid!
EDIT: (In case anyone sees this.) Nice to see this post getting attention and some good discussion! =D I’ll note that I’m experimenting with how much detail to include in a theory post, and how to best present information. Some stuff has been brought up that I left out on purpose for readability, or because it wouldn’t make a huge difference in the end result. That said:
It definitely looks like Crewniverse was trying to make the height difference hard to notice, and the height difference is consistant thorughout the scene. To me, the scene screams “We’re leaving subtle hints about things we haven’t revealed, again!”
Blue isn’t much closer to the camera than the palanquin, so there shouldn’t be too much of a perspective difference.
The ‘How Are Gems Made’ Minisode states that Gems suck the life out of the ground to skip childhood (I suspect Peridot will grow). Gems are probably designed to do that because the Diamonds wanted them to get to work right away. If the Diamonds don’t have that feature, however, they’d experience childhood.
I do think dialogue hints at Pink being a child, rather than a runt. For example, Yellow calls Pink’s zoo “silly,” suggesting a childish nature.
I do think that young Gems and Diamonds would still grow up very, very slowly. Remember that Pink would have to be a MINIMUM of ~1,000 years old by the time she was taken down; probably much, much older, especially if the Gem writing in Off Colors is any indication.
I suspect that Blue and Yellow are already fully grown. Between that, and the previous bullet point, we wouldn’t see any height difference with Blue between The Answer and Steven’s Dream.

Butch lesbians aren’t a stereotype. They aren’t overrepresented - in fact, they’re underrepresented. They are also constantly villainized.
Butch lesbians who are fat or hairy or trans or all three deserve all the love in this world and deserve to have loving, meaningful relationships, and they do not deserve your ire, your jeering, or your mockery.
Butch lesbians don’t have material privilege over women who aren’t butch lesbians, and claiming that they do is lesbophobic and erroneous.
Butch lesbians aren’t your oppressors or your enemies.
Butch lesbians do not have one “look” to them and they aren’t a monolith. Butch lesbians of color deserve to be supported and cherished. Fetishizing butch lesbians of color is extremely racist.
Saying that “I’m a feminist but I’m not a lesbian” is lesbophobic. It’s fine to clarify what your sexuality is, but acting like being called a lesbian is a heinous crime or insult is lesbophobic. There are feminists who are butch lesbians, and you aren’t superior to them if you shave or conform to gender or are straight. In fact, can you really call yourself a feminist if you distance yourself from marginalized women in such a way?
Butch lesbians have unique experiences and don’t all have the same connections to gender (and its performance/identification).
Da, da, da, daaaaaaaa…… that’s a little more dramatic than I had intended. I love all these wonderful Sai tutorials that get posted on here but I haven’t seen much attention payed to Sai’s Lineart tool which I can’t get enough of. I’m sure there probably are Lineart Layer tutorials out there - I just haven’t come across one so I’m just adding to the pile. The Lineart tool is so awesome it deserves any number of tutorials anyway. It’s so easy to use, it saves me so much time, and it offers so much control which I really love. Honestly, the tool is so easy to use that this is less of a tutorial and more of just a general encouragement to just whip it out and start playing with it. Yeah. So say we start with a simple line like this swirly-wirly thingy that I drew with the marker tool. Well, the first step would be to create a linework layer by clicking the linework layer button.
There we go. Now, a lineart layer in Sai is different from any other regular layer in Sai and it will bring up a completely new range of tools. I’m gonna briefly go through them but the best way to understand exactly what each does is to just try them out for yourself. There’s no substitute for experience or however the saying goes.
Pen - This is your freehand lineart tool and to best honest I don’t really use it that often. That’s just me personally. I have an expensive gaming rig that has all sorts of magic running under the hood but we all know that Sai’s memory management is pretty crappy and I don’t need the lag or crashes that come with this tool when working at a high DPI. You may have a different, entirely pleasant experience with this particular tool but for me, if I’m doing freehand inking, I’d much rather just use the regular Pencil tool.
Eraser - Kinda speaks for itself.
Weight - This one I do love. Say you’ve drawn a line - or a path as Sai calls it. With this tool you can adjust the thickness of the particular line by simply selecting the brush size and then clicking on the line.
Color - Same as Weight. Simply select your desired colour and then select the desired line you’d like to change. Very useful. For the aesthetic.
Edit - This one comes with its own subset of mini-tools that I’ll get into in a moment. But this is definitely a useful tool - for me it’s probably the most useful.
Pressure - This is the one that adds the character to your linework. I’ll explain further below.
SelPen - A selection tool. Pretty standard. Since the Lineart layer works in ‘Anchor’ points (which again, I’ll get in to further down below) I don’t really use this one.
SelErs - Selection Erase. Goes hand in hand with the SelPen. I can’t say that I personally use this one much.
Curve & Line - The Curve and the Line tools are the cornerstones of the Linework layer. I’m explain both further down.
The Edit tool, as I mentioned, brings up its own list of sub-tools. And they definitely have their uses. Again, it’s best to play around with them to truly get a grasp of what they do but I’ll just run through them quickly before I get on with the main tutorial.
Select - For selecting anchor points of paths. Honestly, I don’t really use this one too much simply because hovering over a point or path and clicking will select it.
Move/Add - Now this one I use a lot. Moving an anchor will affect the curvature of your line if you’ve used the ‘Curve’ tool, or you can add curves to a straight line by clicking and dragging in between anchor points.
Delete CP/Curve - Kinda speaks for itself. It will delete an achor point in your line. Sometimes this can be useful for making your curves rounder if you’ve added too many points to it.
Deform Path - Again, kinda self explanatory. It will warp your line. I don’t really use this one myself but that’s not to say that it couldn’t have its uses.
Deform Anchor - See above.
Move Path - Instead of moving just an anchor or adjusting the curvature of your line you can move the entire line at once. Can be useful.
Duplicate Path - Does exactly what it says - creates a copy of your line. Haven’t found much use for this simply because I don’t particularly like copy/paste stuff in linework. Faults or differences add character.
Delete Path - deletes a line you’ve drawn independently of other lines on your linework layer. Can be useful as well.
Connect CPs - This is difficult to explain the benefits of. It’s one that should be experimented with. It basically joins lines together. I use it quite often. Just pick this option and drag from one anchor point to another to join them.
Pointed/Rounded - See the diagram below for this one. I find it very useful.
As you can see I used the Curve tool to draw a simple curve (left) and then I used the Pointed/Rounded tool to convert the curve into a point (right) by selecting the tool and then clicking on the anchor point at the height of the curve. I find it very useful. Anyway, back to our swirly-wirly thingy.
Because our swirly-wirly thingy is basically one long curve, I simply select the curve tool and start clicking. Starting at the centre point on one end, I click to add anchor points as I trace the shape of the object. Each point adjusts the curvature from the last point. It’s kinda hard to explain verbally or even visually but try it out and you’ll quickly see how it works.
Once I have a line over whatever I’m inking done I like to adjust the weight to suit my preferences. I like to work with thicker lines because they give more room to play around with weight. So to adjust the weight you click on the Weight tool, select a brush size and then click on your line. If only it were that simple in life.
Once I have a good weight selected I move on to the Pressure tool. The pressure tool gives you two options. Pressure for width and pressure for density. Width is like controlling the weight of the line at individual points and density controls the transparency. I don’t usually use the density option. As with traditional inking I prefer to denote depth, shadow, etc. with weight as you can see in the image above. To adjust the pressure, simply select the pressure tool and then select an anchor point. Click, hold and drag to the left to make the line thinner of more transparent and to the right to make the line thicker and more dense. As you drag, a percentage will appear over the anchor point you’ve selected. This can be useful for keeping things consistent.
That’s all well and good for curved lines but what about straight lines? That’s where the line tool comes in. It works exactly the same way except it won’t add a curvature to your anchor pints. Still very useful though. Especially when combined with the Weight and Pressure tools.
Here’s an example of one my drawings. It’s Dark Empress Kitana from Mortal Kombat. The one in red is the pencils which if converted to black would probably make a pretty good linework layer. I’m a firm believer in taking the time to clean up your sketch/pencils layer because it will dictate your entire drawing. The one below in black was done using Sai’s linework layer feature. Although not entirely.
As much as I love Sai’s linework layer, it can look a little too clean which is not great when you’re drawing people. Although, it’s all art so it’s all up to personal preferences and personal style. There’s no wrong way to do it. For me though, I prefer to do skin, facial features, hair, etc. by hand using Sai’s Pencil tool on a normal layer and reserve the Linework Layer for architecture, clothing or any non-organic substances. I inked Kitana’s eyes and eyebrows freehand ( or as freehand as you can be with Sai’s amazing stabilisers) but everything else such as her armour or her fan weapon thingy was done using the Curve and Line tools on the Linework Layer.
I hope this tutorial has been useful. Or if not useful - then at least encouring to try out Sai’s linework layer. It’s such a robust feature that I don’t see get much attention and I can’t even begin to describe how much time it saves me or how much I adore it. You were staring at your crush, admiring his handsome features from afar as you had your Potions textbook open. Before your beloved Daniel stepped into the scene, you had been researching the recipe to make the perfect love potion, and you were determined to use it on Daniel.
Flakes of snow gently fell across the courtyard, making you shiver a bit from your seat on the bench. Your cheeks were turned into a rosy red as the air came out of your lips in wispy puffs, but you didn’t mind the cold so long as Daniel was around.
Since Hoshinoya Tokyo opening in July 2016, everyone has been talking about it. Few years back, Tokyo had the most boring set of hotels ever, maybe because the city itself is so engaging, visitors spent every minute of their time outside, without big lodging expectations apart of a comfy bed.
However, for the past few years the hotel game in town has been changing, with big international luxury chains establishing themselves in Tokyo.
Hoshinoya, is a Japanese luxury resorts chain, mainly known by breathtaking locations: Fuji, Karuizawa mountains, Kyoto Arashiyama. So can they reinvent themselves by building a ryokan (traditional Japanese inn), in the business heart of Tokyo, Otemachi?
I arrived at Hoshinoya Tokyo directly from the airport. It is conveniently located close to Tokyo train station (where airport train - Narita Express stops); (from there best is to take a cab for 2 minutes ride; but you can even walk if you are travelling light, which is never my case).
Already the entrance cuts you off from Tokyo business life. Japanese curtains, wood, tatami smell. Once you step in through the entrance, you’ll start a journey into traditional Japan, staff wearing beautiful kimono will welcome you kneeling and request that you remove your shoes before stepping on the tatami mat floors.
Each floor of Hoshinoya features a common area called Ochanoma (tea room) Lounge, exclusive to guests staying on that floor. Seasonal, finest Japanese tea selection and snacks are served during the day, while in the evening you can try different alcohol.
Consider this space as a semi-private study or living room, where you can read a book, catch up on work or mingle with other guests while staff wait at the ready to attend to their needs.
The rooms are big, and simply spectacular. Fluffy beds, tatami mats, amazing design. Each moment at Hoshinoya is an experience. In your room wardrobe you will find a beautiful kimono set, (wear it if you feel like taking a stroll in the nearby Imperial Palace gardens, or simply to take plenty of photos). There is also a set of instructions on how to wear it, or simply you can call a staff to help you.
Breakfast is a ritual. Japanese traditional breakfast arrives to your room, like a colorful surprise box. And then there is a coffee, a special drip with a blend imported from Colombia, I still think it was one of the best coffee cups I had in my life, and I did try many, and in different countries.
In the evening, I went down to the lobby where performances take place irregularly (check the schedule upon the arrival), I listened to a musical performance of an instrument I never saw before.
Then I headed for a light stretching class on the top floor, a bit of a Japanese style yoga and breathing exercise mix.
Even the lift has tatami mats inside. Sliding paper screens everywhere.
Inside of the room with a beautiful traditional and modern bath.
Evening tea and sweets in the lounge.
And spectacular in room dining, prepared with seasonal ingredients.
One of the most amazing features of Hoshinoya Tokyo is the hot spring bath on the top floor. A hot spring (onsen bath) is a defining feature of every ryokan, yet here Hoshinoya surpassed the expectations and created a true state-of-the-art facility, which draws on the area’s first natural hot spring, identified back in 2014. The bath is an open air one, with no roof.
I woke up early and decided to go to the onsen for a sunrise. When I entered the bath I looked up and saw the Tokyo sky lighting up with first sun rays, and beautiful snow flakes falling into the warm hot spring water. One of these truly dreamy experiences that I will remember forever.
My advice for your visit:
Spend some time inside the ryokan to unwind and enjoy
Check the performance, and different classes schedule
Spend time in the Ochanoma lounge (few times a day the lounge offers different things - from rice onigiri, through interesting tea blends, to alcohol in the evening)
Experience the onsen bath on the top floor (go in the evening for the most relaxing experience) but also if you can try it at sunrise, most likely you will have entire bath just for yourself !
