this is an aslaug blog

I just wanted to say I love your blog! I liked Aslaug as a character & never blamed her for "breaking" up Lagertha & Ragnar, that was ALL Ragnar's doing. I especially loved your gif set on the friendship with Siggy/Aslaug/Helga. I loved it b/c these ladies were not shieldmaidens, but were intelligent & strong in their own way. The whole Lagertha/Aslaug/Astrid "friendship" is a pale comparison.

Yeah, I’m really sad that the original trio is gone, especially because we have such little time with them :( And of course the new trio is all shield maidens, which isn’t a bad thing by itself, but it stings because we had to lose those three great women.

I think the new Lagertha/Astrid/Torvi friendship is fine and it’s definitely needed to have these female friendships in the show. However it also feels surprisingly unbalanced? Like, thinking about it’s weird because status wise the gap is similar with the Queen and two ladies who live with and are important to her. Perhaps it is the admiration both Astrid and Torvi have for Lagertha? Whereas with Aslaug/Helga/Siggy it felt like these were women of similar ages so they felt more level and less fangirl like? I don’t know if you know what I’m talking about, an example would be how Lagertha introduces Torvi and Astrid to Earl Jorgenson (This is Torvi, my son Bjorn’s companion. And this is Astrid, one of my shield-maidens.) vs how Aslaug introduced Helga and Siggy to Harbard (wife of Floki the boatbuilder and widow of earl haraldson). You know, Astrid and Torvi are kind of defined by their relation to Lagertha? And that’s fine for Torvi since she’s family, but Astrid, it feels almost a bit more unequal? I don’t know if I’m explaining myself well at all.
