this is actually the best show in the whole wide world

List of anime series/movies with unique art styles.

For my friends on tumblr, in case you guys want something to watch, here’s a quick list of anime series/movies with unusual/unique art styles that you may or may not know.

Kaiba

With an artstyle reminiscent of the original Astro Boy, Kaiba has a very simplistic (yet stylized) and fluid style of animation and art. The story revolves around the titular character, who wakes up with a hole in his chest with no idea of who he is. I enjoyed this a lot for the art, music and characters, who all have realistic motivations and ideals, as well as the themes handled in it; such as what defines “being human” when bodies and memories are as disposable as plastic.
Genre: Sci-Fi, Psychological Drama

Redline

In terms of sheer action and excitement I got from watching a movie, I’ve got to say that Redline is one of the best ever in those departments. With a highly stylized comic-book-esque art style with a high influence from Western comics like Dick Tracy (with the emphasis on black shadows on solid colours and thick black outlines), this show is extremely fluidly animated, the movie is said to consist of 120 000 hand-drawn frames, taking seven years to complete. The movie follows the story of racer JP (aka “Sweet” JP, because of his refusal to use weaponry while racing) trying to win (and survive) the titular Redline, a race consisting of multiple racers from multiple different galaxies and planets.
Genre: Racing, Sci-Fi, Action

Mononoke

Every frame of this anime could be screencapped and slapped onto someone’s dashboard for their aesthetic. That is how distinct the art style and character design of this show is. The show uses a form of “plaid animation”, where something will be animated over a still color or object as it moves, creating most of the time a jarring effect that is usually the sign of a lazy animator, however in Mononoke, the show utilizes the art to create a sense of a surreal, dream-like environment, intentionally focusing on the jarring effect. The art and design of the environment is also extremely ornate and beautiful.
The show focuses on the story of the unknown Medicine Seller and his travels through Japan (in an unknown time period), killing spirits and creatures known as Mononoke. However, he cannot do so until he learns their Form, Truth and Reasoning/Regret, which leads to some very interesting lessons at the end of each story.
Genre: Mystery, Horror

Dead Leaves

Another comic-influenced movie, and just barely under an hour too; Dead Leaves is an extremely fun, hyper-action-packed movie with amazing character design (almost EVERY good character in this movie has a unique design, barring the civilains and generic bad guy cannon fodder), driven by slapstick, humor (usually of the sexual kind) and more pop culture references than you can digest within the time span they’re thrown at you. The story focuses on criminals Retro and Pandy; Retro having a TV instead of a head, and Pandy having a panda-like marking on her eye, who, shortly after waking up on the moon and causing havoc on a nearby planet, are imprisoned in a super-jail.
Genre: Action, Comedy, Sci-Fi

Kuuchuu Buranko / Welcome to Irabu’s Office

Combining rotoscoped 3D, 2D animation and live action elements, Kuuchuu Buranko is an extremely surreal look into the world of psychiatry. The art and designs were created by the lead artist of Mononoke, Kenji Nakamura. But whereas Mononoke had some subtlety to its art, this show is bright, colourful and neon as all hell. The show focuses on Dr. Ichiro Irabu and how he helps his patients with their problems, who are all connected in some way or the other.
Genre: Comedy, Psychological Drama

The Tatami Galaxy

With a bright visual style that also manages to be subtle at the same time, The Tatami Galaxy also utilizes not just its art as a device for story telling, but the form of the show itself to convey its messages. I can’t spoil too much about the show, but I can give you this: if you enjoy the first episode, please watch it to completion, as this show basically requires the viewer to watch the show in its entirety. The story focuses on an unnamed protagonist, commonly referred to as Watashi by the show’s fans, who tries to attain the “rose-tinted” college life style he has desired for his whole life, as well as all the challenges he faces on the way. With fast-paced dialogue, a lot of humor, interesting character and background designs, as well as the various forms of “characterization”, and also the themes tackled by this show, I’d say it’s one of my favorite shows of all time.
Genre: Slice of Life, Comedy, Drama, Psychological, Sci-Fi

Mind Game

Mind Game. Directed by Masaaki Yuasa (also the director behind The Tatami Galaxy, Kaiba and Ping-Pong). I don’t think words can do this movie justice, but I’ll try. Imagine a combination of 3D-morphing-into-2D, sketches, animated photo images of (presumably) the voice actor’s for talking, extremely smooth and fluid movement, plus an insane amount of exaggeration, all coupled with a huge range of bright and dark colours and you’ve got Mind Game’s animation style down somewhat. Go look up more GIFs, they’ll help you understand the range of styles this surreal (and extremely fun) movie goes through. The plot follows Nishi, a down-on-his-luck, 20-years-old manga writer, running into his childhood crush Myon. He discovers she’s getting married soon while they’re talking inside her father’s restaurant. After that (plus another key event), the craziness in the movie begins; Nishi having a new-found desire to live life.
Genre: Comedy, Surrealism,

Tekkonkinkreet

Tekkonkinkreet, although similar in appearance to some Masaaki Yuasa works, was not made by the man himself (although, it was made by the company, Studio 4°Cthat helped produce Mind Game). This movie has incredibly detailed backgrounds, similar to a Studio Ghibli film, with amazing usage of lighting, camera shots and motion blur as well as a wide variety of colours and shades. The story follows Black and White, two street orphans who call themselves “The Cats”, trying to keep control of their town from dangerous enemies. Although vastly different in personalities, they support each other emotionally, mentally and physically very well.
Genre: Action, Drama, Adventure

The Diary of Tortov Riddle

The Diary of Tortov Roddle, although very short (6 episodes all leading up to 14 minutes! Watch it here! It has three special episodes that are part of the DVD though), is an interesting adventure of a surreal world that seems almost like a moving/animated picture rather than a movie or series. It follows the journey of Tortov Roddle and his pig-steed throughout this world, with just his calm thoughts and experiences. There’s no dialogue in this series but it doesn’t really require any dialogue at all, the only dialogue being Tortov’s journal entries at the beginning and end of each episode. The music, lack of dialogue and artall contribute to a very interesting, mysterious atmosphere.
Genre: Fantasy, Surrealism, Adventure

The Tale of Princess Kaguya

Straight outta Compton Studio Ghibli, The Tale of Princess Kaguya is an adaption of one of the staples of traditional Japanese folklore, The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. This film adapts the ancient story of the young princess who grew out of a bamboo shoot and breathes fresh new life into it while still staying 100% true to the source material. The art can only be described as absolutely gorgeous, using a pale colour palette in a constantly shifting style that recalls the ancient Japanese watercolour paintings that the original story was recorded on.

Genre:  Fantasy, Drama

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei

Oh man this show.
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei follows the story of Nozomu Itoshiki, an overdramatic teacher so pessismistic about everything that he would try committing suicide over pretty much the smallest inconvenience (his name, when its Japanese characters are read horizontally, also translates into “Despair”) and his bizarre homeroom students’ antics. The series parodies almost everything there is to satrize in Japanese culture (the show even parodies itself from time to time with casual 4th wall-breaking from every show), as well as the general media and politics of the world, as well as having an insane amount of references to various things regardless of fame; from Gundam, Evangelion and Gurren Lagann, to Franz Kafka, Edward Gorey and South Park. The art’s very minimal (which itself gets parodied later on in the series), but it, uh, changes a lot, to put it simply.

Genre: Comedy, Parody

Ping-Pong

(gotta lot of requests to list this one)

Sports anime tends to always get a bad rep amongst anime fans for various reasons, whether it be that the viewer gets tired of seeing another Dempsey Roll, or the amount of reused frames in the series, they’re all understandable.
And so comes Ping-Pong to shatter those preconceptions of what a sports anime can be. Focusing rather on the characters, their emotions and development rather than the titular game that the anime’s based on (unlike most sports anime), this coming-of-age show following two boys as they (one actually) strive to become the best table tennis players in the world, is directed by none other than Masaaki Yuasa, who has directed a lot of the shows and movies on this list actually, with his trademark style of not having a trademark artstyle (other than wobbly simple lines and psychedelic colours).

Genre: Psychological, Drama, Coming-Of-Age, Sports

Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo

(im still in the process of watching Gankutusou and Ping-Pong (thanks school) hence why they weren’t in the original post)

Gankutsuou is what most people would call “art porn”, as it uses various still textures, colours and patterns within the character’s lineart, similar to Mononoke and Kuuchuu Buranko though to a much greater extent, while using 3D and 2D animation on the characters and backgrounds. The story is broadly based on the titular story of The Count of Monte Cristo, but with many differences, such as being set in the year 5053, plotlines and character endings being altered/removed, the pacing being changed from the original story, as well as the incorporation of many sci-fi themes. The general aesthetic of the show is that of 19th century France in a highly futuristic setting.

Genre: Drama, Sci-Fi, Thriller, Supernatural

Kaiji

Based off a popular gambling manga by Nobuyuki Fukumoto, Kaiji follows the story of the titular character, Kaiji Itou, an unemployed slacker who spends his days gambling (and always losing), stealing, drinking and being obsessed with money. He suddenly finds himself 3 million in debt, and is offered the chance to erase all of his debt, and maybe even earn some cash, in one night.

Via gambling.

With thick bold lines, exaggerated expressions and hugely caricaturized faces that woul make more sense in a comedy that all serve as a plus to the show, Kaiji is an intense psychological thriller that always leaves you on the edge of your seat, with some of the most insane and dramatic gambles in any piece of fiction.

Genre: Psychological, Thriller, Gambling

Panty and Stocking With Garterbelt

Two angels, kicked out of Heaven, have been tasked with cleaning up the filthy sin-riddled Daten City, and can only return once they’ve gotten enough Heaven coins!

Not like that matters to Panty and Stocking anyways, whose only cares in the world are what tastes good, much to the chagrin of local priest Garterbelt.

With a ton of American pop culture references, humor that would make South Park seem like a kid’s show, action that is so bizarre it can’t even be explained, and an animation style that’s more akin to a cartoon on a huge drug trip than anything else, Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt shows that sometimes too much of a good thing is still a good thing.

Genre: Comedy, Action, Parody, Not something to play around Grandma

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure

There really is no other gif that explains and summarizes Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure better than this one.

Based off the hugely popular manga by Araki Hirohiko, the show follows the story of the Joestar bloodline. Jojo is unique in that it doesn’t follow one group of characters or main character throughout the entire franchise, but rather a different cast in a different location throughout the world, ranging from 1930s New York, to 1980s Japan, to Egypt and much more.

If I’m being rather vague about describing this rather popular show, I apologize, but there really is no way to properly explain this bizarre series.

With proportions that look like it was ripped straight out of a bodybuilder’s magazine, poses that could probably break your spine if even just attempted, and fights that end up being some of the most hype as well as some of the most ridiculous you’ll have ever seen, as well as a bright, dramatic colour pallete, this is a show that truly lives up to its “Bizarre” title.

(also protip: start with the 2012 adaption first rather than the 90s OVA, and read the manga.)

Genre: Action, Comedy, Supernatural, Mystery

anonymous asked:

Any valentines headcanons for Victor and Yuuri? Like how they spend it together or if some fan sent anything crazy in the past (Yuuri sending Victor things every year but being too embarrassed to write his name as the sender??)

“Wait, someone actually sent you their used panties?” Yuuri has no idea what kind of a face he’s making, but he hopes it does the sheer disgust he’s feeling justice, because what is wrong with people?

Victor laughs. “On more than one occasion. Most of the time Yakov just sent them to the incinerator.”

“’Most of the time’?”

“Don’t ask questions you don’t want answered,” Victor says, horrifyingly, then brightens. “I didn’t get to keep any of the chocolates people gave me—for safety reasons, you know—but the plushies were mine to do whatever with. I usually gave them away to sick kids.”

He remembers. It was SKATING’s December 2003 issue cover story. Victor had been in a white doctor’s jacket smiling wide while the two children he had tucked under each arm flashed peace signs. Stuffed animals were strewn across the floor around them like fallen soldiers. He’d taped it into his cubby at Ice Palace until Takeshi joked that they should beat Yuuri up so Victor would come visit him in the hospital. Yuuri seriously considered it.

“I can’t believe you kept some of this stuff,” Yuuri marvels, holding up an actual wedding invitation. You are cordially invited to the marriage of Victor Nikiforov and Joanne Spiers…

Yuuri gently places it back into the box. Well, chucks it back in, more like.

“Oh! Let me show you my favorite one!” Victor nudges him out of the way to rummage around, eventually coming up with a little blue envelope with a sticker that’s faded with time and oddly shaped. Yuuri squints at it, trying to place it, when it hits him. He goes very, very still.

“I think I was… maybe 16 when I got this one? It was the sweetest letter I’d ever received.” Victor sighs wistfully and cradles the envelope to his chest as though it were precious, spun glass and lace, before handing it over.

If Yuuri’s hands shake a little as he undoes the katsudon sticker on the backflap and slides the piece of notebook paper out, Victor doesn’t comment on it. Instead, he notches his chin onto Yuuri’s shoulder to read it along with him.

It’s a little yellow, but the faded images of sakura still comes through behind shaky, painstaking Cyrillic penned to fill the page.

Dear Victor,

You are the greatest skater in the whole wide world. I am a skater too but I am only 12 years old and I am still learning. I did a triple axel for the first time yesterday! I hope you are proud. Someday I would like to hold your hand and skate with you. We could do a triple axel together. Please wait for me.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

“I wanted to write back, but they didn’t leave a name or a return address,” Victor says softly, reaching around Yuuri to brush reverent fingers over the page. “Even with the terrible translation, it was the most genuine expression of love I’d ever seen at that time. I brought that letter with me everywhere I went, hoping I might catch a glimpse of that kid in the crowd, or even on the ice. Whoever it was, I hope they continued to skate. I really would’ve liked to have skated with them.”

The boxy letters swim and blur, spreading out until they’re vague blobs, and when Yuuri blinks to clear it, the page is wet. “It wasn’t terrible.”

“Hmm?”

Turning in Victor’s arms, Yuuri beams up at him through his tears. “The translation. It wasn’t terrible. Vasiliev-sensei at Ice Palace wrote it out for me and I spent hours practice-copying it to make sure it was perfect.”

He can see the moment realization dawns, because Victor’s furrowed brow ripples and smoothes out, jaw dropping almost into Yuuri’s lap. “You—”

The world tilts dangerously and skews when he’s tackled onto his back, and Yuuri laughs up at the ceiling as Victor presses frantic kisses to his mouth, his neck, the swells of his cheeks and the sides of his nose. He shakes with a giddy sort of joy, drowning under a wave of relief nearly fifteen years in the making, and reaches up to palm Victor’s face—a little older, a little more mature, but still the greatest skater in the whole wide world who was everything to a little boy once. Even more now as a man.

“Thank you for waiting for me,” Yuuri murmurs, then leans up and meets Victor halfway.

Knitting Witchcraft 101, a crash course by witchimplumis

To start this off, obviously there are TONS of ways to do a lot of this stuff. This is mostly the method I use. This also isn’t a tutorial to knitting, there’s lots of great videos out there explaining how to knit, if I tried to teach all of that in this post, it would be at least 3 times as long. Finally, most of this probably also works for crochet, but I don’t know the first thing about crochet, so I’ll let someone else weigh in on that.

Knitting magic is great for anyone, from witches on a budget (yarn, especially acrylic, can be dirt cheap), broom closet witches (it’s easy-peasy to pass off as a normal, non-witchy hobby), practical witches (you get a useful garment at the end!), and more. You can use it on its own, or as a part of a larger spell or ritual.

Intent

Much like all magic, a lot of knitting magic is intent and visualization. Before starting a project, come up with a purpose for the finished product. For this scenario, I’ll use a real project I’ve done. I wanted to make a shawl to help me in the upcoming school year.
When you’re knitting, focus on the purpose that you want to imbue the finished product with. Imagine your hopes for it entering each stitch, and being locked in place with your needles.
When you first start, it may feel mentally exhausting or draining, or it may be really hard to focus and you may find your thoughts drifting away, but as you practice you’ll get better and be able to focus longer. I find that once I start to lose focus the best thing to do is leave for a while and pick the project up later, once I’ve had time to clear my head.

Rs/ws

If you’ve been a knitter for any length of time at all, you know that flat knitting has what’s called a “right side” (the side that shows when you’re wearing/using your created object) and a “wrong side” (the side that faces towards you, like the bottom of a blanket or inside of a cardigan), or rs and ws on patterns.
When working out the beginning of my projects, I come up with two different intents, one for the outside world to see (right side) and one to affect only me (wrong side). So, in the example of my school shawl, I wanted other people to view me as capable in my field. So my rs intent was “I am a learned student of my trade.” On the ws, I choose an intent that helps me to acheive my ultimate goal (doing well in school) so the intent I used was “I have the focus required in my studies.”
HOWEVER, when working in the round, there’s no wrong side. So then how do you go about wrong side intents? Two options: one, have only one overarching purpose for all knitting (such as “I will succeed in my chosen field”), or alternate lines as you would if you weren’t knitting in the round.

Color/texture

Yarn comes in pretty much every color and color combination imaginable. Color associations/color magic are not only possible to do with yarn but strongly encouraged. I use lots of sources for mine, googling “color associations” brings up bunches of pages, or you can use your own personal associations. If you’re going to do this, read reviews for the yarn and check for or ask about color bleeding.

Textures are an often-overlooked factor. Prickly yarn can be used in a defensive spell, or soft yarn in one for comfort and warmth. Always keep in mind what kind of thing you’re making though, and try to work off of that. Some textures are not ideal for some uses.

Materials
Yarn materials are important to fit to your project. For example, you don’t want to make a knit bralette out if dish scrubby yarn (ouch). You have tons of options, but I’ll stick to the kinds you’re most likely to run into cheap-ish. My standing recommendation for all of these is if there is any way at all you can see and feel yarn in person before buying it, do so. I don’t recommend buying in bulk of you haven’t dealt with a brand or line of yarn before.

Acrylic- acrylic yarn is usually extremely cheap and comes in tons of colors and textures, some are shiny, others are really fuzzy, there’s all kinds for all purposes. It’s really great if you have allergies because it’s synthetic fiber.

Wool/superwash wool: usually somewhat coarse, wool is a natural fiber that comes from shearing specific breeds of wool-producing sheep. Some brands will even say specifically what breed(s) or country their wool comes from. In my experience, wool is much easier to work magic with than acrylic, however it will usually also be more expensive, and there are fewer textures and appearances available.

Cotton: cotton is a nice in-between of acrylic and wool. It’s a natural fiber, but I don’t know of anybody being allergic to it. It can come in many different colors, but not really any texture variety, they all just feel like cotton. If you’re not morally opposed for any of various reasons, Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Cotton yarn is by far the best cotton yarn I’ve found, in terms of softness. If you ARE morally opposed however, Sugar n Cream makes cotton yarn on huge spools very cheap.

Bamboo: it’s considered eco-friendly yarn. I don’t know how true that is, as I don’t use it enough to actually look into the carbon footprint of bamboo yarn. That said it feels like actual clouds and looks like them too.

Silk: we all know what silk is. Silk yarn exists. It’s on the expensive end of cheap stuff, usually only comes in small amounts.

Merino: wool that comes from the merino sheep breed specifically. This wool is really soft, I don’t work with it much because it’s usually really expensive compared to every other kind.

Novelty yarns: I love incorportating these. Some are great for practical reasons (dish scrubby yarn) and others are great for using some of their elements as part of a spell (like feathery yarns or beady yarns etc.)

Stitch types
I don’t think there’s a widely agreed upon set of associations for stitch type/pattern, these are just some common ones I’ve come to associate.
YO/lace- these large, open patterns I associate with “bigger” or more wide effects. Alternately, because they’re basically big holes in the object, allowing your intents to come out into the environment.
seed- just like its name, I associate seed stitch with potential and growth.
Garter- I tend to associate garter stitch with mundane life, alternately with its common use as a border stitch I associate it as a holding stitch, keeping things in (like secrets) or protected.
Stockinette- a super common stitch pattern for fronts of things, especially socks (as per the name). I tend to associate it with appearances, and spells like glamour aids.

Blocking
When/if you block, visualize the water charging your finished object. You can use scented wool wash in scents that are associated with the spell you’re doing, you have tons of options.

Beads, etc:
You can get all kinds of things at craft stores! I found crystal charms last time I went that would look great on a heavier-weight shawl, there’s beads of various different materials and colors, if I went over all of these things it’d take a whole extra post. Play around and see what you like.

Finished products:
Clothing- either for yourself or for others. Make ritual clothing or just a warmth-intent hat. Possibilities are totally endless.
Poppet- maybe make a poppet out of yarn? Stuff it with things you want the poppet associated with? Disclaimer: don’t burn knit poppets unless you are 100% certain ALL ingredients are safe to burn wherever you’re burning them. I prefer to “destroy” my knit poppets by stabbing them with knitting needles, so that I can reuse them, even better, make the end drawstring-style, so you can reuse it with different ingredients. Eco friendly witchcraft!
Spell swatch- I call it a spell swatch but it may have another name by now. It works pretty much exactly how it sounds, knit a swatch of fabric in varying colors, stitches, etc., based on what the spell is. Knit in beads or feathers or hair or whatever you feel like you should. Then pin it on your wall or carry it with you. It doesn’t have to (and probably won’t) look nice, it’s just a little spell to carry with you, like a very personalized sigil.

Other uses: knitting is great for meditation! Finding a simple pattern to knit for a while can leave your mind free to relax and do its own thing, I love leaving guided meditations, binaural tones, etc. on while I’m knitting things like socks or blankets.

Part One

“So Y/N, how was your, um, your night last night?” Peter asked as he started eating his lunch. All day, all you could think about was last night. Spider-Man randomly showed up in your room. In what world does that actually happen to someone? You looked down at your lunch, trying to figure out what to tell him, Ned and Michelle who suddenly got interested in the conversation due to lack of an answer.

“It was uh, good actually, watched a funny movie. Why do you ask?” You question back at him. You didn’t tell him about the whole Spider-Man thing because you didn’t know if the man in the mask wanted you to tell people. Peter looked down at his lunch tray. “Just curious, that’s all. What about you guys,” he looked between Ned and Michelle, “how were your nights?” He asked. Peter didn’t want to seem suspicious if he only asked you. He knew what you actually did last night, you were with him. Well, his alter ego. Did you not trust him enough to tell him about it?

As Ned began to explain his action packed night of binge watching old movies, you began to play with your food, lost in thought about the city’s hero, Spider-Man. He was funny, and kind of cool. Not everyone gets to talk to him which made the entire situation even better than it already was.

Peter looked over and saw you playing with your food. He turned to see if Ned was still talking to him but he was now talking to Michelle. “Hey,” Peter said as he turned to you, “you okay? You seem a bit out of it.” He sounded worried about you. You nodded your head yes, “Yeah, yeah I’m fine. I just didn’t get much sleep last night.”

“Did you stay up all night watching movies?” He asked with a small smile, knowing exactly what you did. “How’d you know?” You said sarcastically, knowing that you told him earlier. “Lucky guess.” He said with a shrug, playing along with the whole thing. The two of you quietly laughed at the situation.

What the two of you didn’t hear was Michelle and Ned talking about you. “You think  they’re ever going to date?” Ned whispered to Michelle. “Oh definitely.” She said before getting back to reading her book.

It was late at night, again. But this time, you were busy doing your homework. You only had a few more problems you needed to do. You sighed, getting anxious for the sleep you so desperately needed. You went to open your window, wanting to hear the sounds of the city. You went back to your homework area and glanced at the time on your phone to see that it was 11:50. Jesus, these high school teachers are draining the life out of you. Forgetting about your homework, you stayed on your phone for a few minutes. All of a sudden, a wind washed over you. You look up and see Spider-Man.

He came here on purpose this time, he wanted to see you. At least that’s what you understood. “How is is it that Spider-Man has been in my room, not just once, but twice now?” You asked with a humorous sound lacing your voice. You saw him shrug his shoulders as he went to sit on your bed. “I guess I just like talking to you.” He said as he jumped up onto your bed, and crossing his legs Indian style. Spider-Man patted a seat next to him, indicating you to go and sit with him.

You got on the bed and crossed your legs the way that he had done. “What do you want to talk about?” You asked as you started playing with your hands out of nervousness.

“I don’t know….tell me about your life. Your crush your favorite things, your friends, really anything.” Spider-Man said. You cleared your throat before speaking again. “My friends are the most awesome people on the planet. They are always nice and understanding.  I would be lost without them, really.” You said looking up at him.

“Are you popular?” He asked curiously. You shook your head immediately. “No, I hang out with the same three people everyday. If anything, I am one of the most unpopular kids at my school.”

“How could you be unpopular?” He asked with a surprised tone, “You’re  the most gorgeous girl I have ever seen.” You blushed at the statement. Another plus, he is super sweet. “T-Thanks.”

“So, do you have a crush on anyone?” He questioned with a voice that made him sound like a dramatic 5th grader. This made you smile. “He, he is just something else you know what I mean? He’s different then any other guy that I have ever met. He is just such a good person with a big heart and he is crazy smart. He uh, just got an internship at Stark Industries. What teenager gets that opportunity?” You told Spider-Man all this, venting to a man you don’t even know.

“Sounds like he’s a pretty cool guy. What’s his name? Maybe I can help you with your relationship.” He said the last part mockingly. Peter knew exactly what he was doing. He wanted you to admit your feelings for him even if you weren’t telling the real Peter. He just wanted to hear you say those words.

You smiled widely thinking of the boy who had you wrapped around his finger. “His name is-”

“Peter! What’s up?” You said as you ran to catch up with him. He turned and smiled at you, “Hey Y/N.”

Part Three

hiiii, here are a bunch of fics I’ve enjoyed and loved reading throughout the month of february. I recommend that you read these great fics in march, if you haven’t already. there are SO many good and unique AUs this round, so please check them out!!

(all fics with a star are my favorites and if there are two stars then it was a favorite favorite)

1. Saved Tonight (30k)**

Harry is the world’s most persistent seduction-baker, a questionable dog-sitter, and Louis’s biggest fan. Louis hasn’t written in years, is trying to pass loneliness off as cynicism, and absolutely hates his fans. It’s probably destiny.

2. Too Real to Fake It (82k)*

With seven years of blissful marriage behind them and four wonderfully unique kids to brag about, Harry and Louis seem to finally have life all figured out and under control. How much more real could it get?

Very real it turns out, when Harry reluctantly leaves home for a 5 day business trip leaving Louis to manage their rambunctious, hyperactive household. Do they really have it all under control or are they just faking it?

Featuring all the usual suspects, inside jokes, embarrassing moments and of course, Harry and Louis’ wild antics + the addition of their four equally wild and outrageous kids.

3. When You Look Like That (16k)*

“You… you still have the dress form I got you for your eighteenth birthday? You’ve kept it for ten years, Harry?” Louis’ eyes flick around Harry’s studio. It’s big and modern, with floor to ceiling windows that help flood the room in bright sunlight, just like the lobby. However, he can’t stop staring at the faded, but present, heart surrounding the “H + L” written delicately in Louis’ handwriting in the center of the mannequin.

Louis is a songwriter who is nominated for a Grammy and he needs a suit. Fast. He seeks out help from a very popular, very mysterious designer who just so happens to be his ex-boyfriend.

“It’s amazing how you don’t even have to open your mouth to give me a headache, Stark.”

Wanda sighs, burying her head in her hands at the kitchen aisle as the brunette steps into the room with a loud whistle and a teasing smirk at the sight of you in a sports bra and the ridiculously expensive and, quite frankly, short shorts he got you for Christmas as a joke.

You chuckle from where you sit on the counter by the stove, waiting for your coffee to brew as you watch the exchange.

He looks mildly offended at her statement, but is quick to regain his cheerfulness once he catches whiff of the freshly brewed coffee and the pancakes Clint made earlier.

“Whatever you say”

He strolls out of the kitchen once more and she smiles, feeling your fingers as they find their way to her chin to coax her to look up at you. Your half-lidded eyes are dark, and she feels her stomach do a flip.

“You said you have a headache?”

“Did I now?”

She quirks a delicate brow at you and you laugh.

“Did you know that sex is an utterly delightful way to cure a headache?”

She bites back a gasp, gaze briefly straying from your own pair of eyes to your lips before she schools her features once more and leans back in her chair.

She was not going to go down without a fight

“Not happening”

“The training room is empty”

You waggle your eyebrows at her suggestively, chuckling lowly at the blush that coloured her cheeks before you decide to turn back towards the counter and pour yourself some well-deserved coffee.

Incredible speed and stamina were part of the Super Soldier package Steve signed up for decades back, you know so much.

So, naturally, you didn’t worry much when your target decided to make a run for it and dashed towards the nearest highway.

And, instead of chasing after the duo, you set into a casual stroll towards a nearby parked car, fully intend to borrow it for one hour or another.

By the time you found your partner, at the other end of the considerably large city, he had tackled the wheezing man to the ground and was cuffing his hands behind his back.

“Well done, Captain”

You smile at him as he shoves the male into the back seat, grounding out a slightly breathless “You couldn’t have driven any faster?” when he settled in the passenger seat himself.

“Why, Captain, I didn’t want to break the law on sacred American soil.”

His groan is accompanied by him rolling his brilliant blue eyes, a wave and a dismissive

“Just drive”

It’s a request you comply with, yet not before you send a charming smirk his way.

“As you desire, Captain. Although I must say that when I leave people out of breath, it is by far more pleasant.”

Your coy smile and wink do nothing but worsen the flush that spreads across his cheeks like a wildfire, the delightful, embarrassed silence that reigns the car after that, lifting your spirits considerably for the rest of the day.

Bruce was frustrated, his jaw in a tight lock and his short-clipped nails digging into the palms of his hands as he stared at the unfinished work before him.

“Penny for your thoughts?”

Your warm breath flutters across his neck and he shivers, leaning forward slightly in a futile attempt to hide the goosebumps that sprung up all over his arms, from you.

“I’m just frustrated that I still can’t figure out how to solve this problem”

He points at the papers before him, sitting still as you peer over his shoulder to inspect his notes.

“Well, I am afraid I cannot help you with that, darling. I can however offer you some delicious coffee and donuts”

You outstretch your hand and place both the box with the donuts and the coffee onto the table, careful not to spill any onto his work.

As much as you loved to wander the line between absolutely deadly and mildly dangerous on missions, even you knew that vexing Bruce of all people was an incredibly stupid idea.

He carefully pries the box open with a grateful nod, a smile reaching his face when he discovers his favourites inside.

“Do you want one?”

He keeps his eyes trained on you and the box tilted as you step closer to the table and into his line of sight, smile on your lips.

“You sure?”

“They're best shared”

His answer is as short as it is sweet, and you cannot help but agree as you take one.

“Some of the best things in life are”

Your lip twitches teasingly, your eyes twinkling with amusement as you lean in slightly closer.

“I figured you wouldn’t take kindly to me borrowing one of Tony’s suits to drag you out of your lab-cave to eat with me, so I decided to bring the food to you.”

You set your trap, now you just had to wait for a response

“I would probably tase you”

He states calmly, taking a bite

Perfect

“Of all the things I partake in, darling, anything to do with electric shocks is not one of them”

You grin charmingly his way, silently daring him to make a move and carry the conversation further.

“I’ll keep it in mind”

He laughs, nervously scratching at his cheek while your grin only widens.

“I do, however, fancy the occasional cuffing, if you’re keeping note of my pleasures for further use.”

You snort a laugh at his deep flush, quickly finishing your donut and making your way out of his lab, already in search of your next victim.

“Did you shoot someone today, Katniss?”

“No”

His gaze doesn’t stray from the target as he fires, hitting bullseye with a self-satisfied smirk.

“Are you certain?”

“Positive”

“Really?”

He sends you a confused look over his shoulder, watching the smirk on your face with furrowed brows.

“ ´Cause you hit my heart with one of those arrows right from the moment I saw you.”

“This one sucked bad, [Y/N]!”

He laughs

“Indeed, it did. Although I have to say that I would prefer a completely different scenario where you suck.”

His barking laugh is as amused as it is flustered, his hand reaching out to scratch at the back of his head.

“I set myself up for this one, didn’t I?”

“Kind of, yeah.”

“This is lame…”

Tony groans, burying his head in his folded arms while Fury sends a pointed glare his way.

“I’d rather drive a bullet through my leg than do that!”

The billionaire points at the screen behind the director and groans again for emphasis, while you take your chance and lean in closer to his ear.

“I could thrill you in different ways if you desire, Stark”

He chokes on air and you smirk, ignoring Fury’s unamused expression entirely.

Too easy

“Closer, [Y/N]”

“I’ve been waiting decades for you to say that, Romanoff.”

“I need you-”

“You need me?” You lick your lips, teasingly shifting closer to give her her desired distance.

“I swear to god, [Y/N], I will kill you”

She avoids her green eyes from the lightbulb she was changing, from her position on your shoulders, and sends a glare your way.

You meet her gaze with your steady, unwaveringly teasing one and she finds it ridiculous how you manage to give her a smouldering look even from your current position.

“You are no fun”

“I can be plenty fun

She retorts half-heartedly, sliding down your back gracefully, while you turn to regard her with darkening eyes.

“My, my, Romanoff. Is that so?”

You lean in closer, mildly surprised when she copies the motion and meets your amused pair of [E/C] eyes.

“I can give you a show and tell later”

Two can play that game, huh?

“Why tell”

You inch impossibly closer, voice regressing into but a seductive purr.

“When you can show me just fine”

Your lips skim her earlobe and she shivers, a blush tinting her cheeks for the friction of a second before the look of defeat sets upon her features.

I win

“That was kind of lame, Barnes”

You throw a water bottle his way and watch him catch it with a small shrug of his shoulders.

“Sorry I didn’t go hard on you, doll.”

You smirk into your own bottle

“Is that the first time you had to say that?”

He looks puzzled for a second before realization sets in and he chuckles, deep and throatily in a way that only brightens your already good mood.

“What do you think?”

“I think we should fix your problem”

“Oh, is that so?”

You inch closer

“My room is nearby, James

“Who said I need a room?”

“Smooth, Barnes.”

The smirk on his way is wide and daring, mirroring your own so perfectly you actually wonder whether you will be able to crack him.

“Part of the package, doll.”

Brilliant

“Mind showing me the whole package in my room?”

You let your eyes wander to his lips for emphasis, catching a glimpse of the flush that crawls up his neck with barely contained self-satisfaction.

Bingo

“Sorry I’m late, I didn’t want to come.”

You sigh and settle down next to Natasha, momentary surprised to see a smirk cross her face.

“I could have sworn that’s what you said yesterday in Stark’s room”

You choke on the coffee you had been nursing in your hands and face her with a disbelieving look, while Tony scoffs.

“Speak for yourself, Romanoff. If she´d complain, she´d complain about Capsicle or his buddy. I bet those two veterans can´t even get it up anymore.”

His crude joke is shot down by Bucky´s barking laugh

“That´s brilliant coming from you, Stark! Do I need to mention that we´ve got 80 years of practice and can literally rock her world?”

Ever so calmly you put down your cup of coffee and reach out to cover Peter´s ears. The poor boy was but a blushing mess by now, his current predicament going completely unnoticed by the team.

“Please, boys! I think we all know that none of you hold a candle to me! I mean, I don´t even have to touch her!”

Wanda cuts in, smirking triumphantly at the sputtering males. Your own cheeks flare up, Peter´s cool hands pleasant on your burning skin when he reaches out to return the favour and cover your own ears.

“Oh, please! [Y/N] would much rather be with someone who never misses, if you know what I mean!”

Clint chirps in with a grin, sending you a wink over the table.

You take it as your cue to leave, dragging a flustered Peter along and completely missing the team´s self-satisfied smirks on your way out.

“That´ll teach her…”

Oh What A Night

Stiles did not hesitate outside Derek’s door. He hesitated in the parking lot, far enough away that Derek wouldn’t be able to hear his heartbeat and know that he was there for ten minutes before actually coming in. After those ten minutes were up, he took a deep breath and forced himself out of the Jeep.

He barged into Derek’s loft without bothering to knock, just like he usually did, and Derek didn’t even bother looking up from his book. It was something in French, it looked like, which was just not fair because how dare Derek be both ridiculously attractive and also fluently multilingual?

Sties did not let himself be distracted by the hot professor look Derek had going on with the French book and the steaming mug of tea and the argyle sweater, all laid out on the leather couch and soaked in sunbeams from the large wall of windows.

“Derek, my main man, I have a proposition for you.”

Derek looked up then, but only to raise an eyebrow at him. When Stiles didn’t break under the force of his judgment and go scurrying back from whence he came, Derek reluctantly closed his book and set it aside.

“I’m pretty sure Scott is your main man,” he said lightly. “And what proposition is this?”

“How would you like to help me stick it to some bigots?”

Both Derek’s eyebrows went up this time and Stiles mentally patted himself on the back for making him look so surprised. Getting any expression out of Derek Hale that wasn’t judgy or unimpressed was an accomplishment and Stiles kept a running tally of how many times he managed it.

“What kind of bigots?” Derek asked with caution that was both insulting and also probably warranted considering some of Stiles’ past shenanigans. “And stick it to them how exactly?”

Stiles took another deep breath and hoped his erratic heartbeat wasn’t giving him away. He was not going to let his awkwardness and inability to control his autonomic functions around Derek ruin his plan, not when the plan was so wonderfully petty and promised to be so very satisfying.

“Okay, so…” Stiles clapped his hands together and then held them out to the side, barely restraining the urge to do jazz hands. “I don’t know if you heard, but I came out at school a few weeks ago,” he said. “One seriously bisexual dude, right here, newly out and proud.”

“Oh,” Derek said, his beautiful face—a face worthy of a sexuality crisis, not that Stiles was ever, ever going to tell him about that—not really looking any more or less surprised than before the big revelation. “I hadn’t heard,” he said. “But that’s good. The out and proud part, I mean,” he added quickly. “Not the bigots, which are unfortunate but do make more sense with some context.”

“Yeah. Overall, it’s been fine,” Stiles said, tucking his hands into his pockets so he didn’t do something stupid like make finger guns. He had a tendency to make finger guns at inappropriate moments. “You know, most people really don’t care. But some people are just naturally douchebags.”

“Are they giving you trouble?” Derek asked, a frown creeping onto his face.

Stiles waved him off, then re-pocketed his hand.

“Keep the claws in, Sourwolf. I’m not getting shoved into lockers or anything. It’s just like…”

Stiles chewed on his lip, fighting back the wave of irritation that always accompanied his run-ins with the douchebags.

“Like, some of them insist that I’m actually gay and just too much of a coward to say it outright,” he said. “Others say I’m actually straight but can’t get a girl to sleep me, so I thought I’d try my hand at guys instead because I’m that undesirable and desperate to get laid. I’m just indecisive and greedy and afraid of commitment. That kind of bullshit.”

Derek was scowling outright now, hands fisted like he might actually pop his claws on Stiles’ behalf.

“That is bullshit,” he said heatedly. “But what do you want me to do about it? I’m assuming you’re not here to get me to tear their throats out.”

He looked like he might actually do it, though, if Stiles asked him to, and that warmed Stiles’ cold little heart.

“Uh, no,” Stiles said with a chuckle. “No, that seemed like a little much in the circumstances.”

“Then how am I supposed to help you get back at them?”

“By going to prom with me.”

Stiles was not surprised that this proclamation was met with silence.

“By going to…what?” Derek asked, righteous anger replaced by utter confusion.

“Prom,” Stiles repeated. “My senior prom. With me. As my date. Well, as one of my dates, actually.”

“Dates. Plural.”

“These assholes keep insisting that I have to ‘pick a side,’” Stiles said, air quotes and all. “They think I can’t like both women and men, or that neither women nor men could ever like me. I want to prove them wrong. I want to show up to prom with two dates, a boy and a girl, and rub it in all their faces that both my dates are hotter than any of theirs.”

Stiles ran a hand through his hair, his confidence in his brilliant plan waning ever so slightly in the face of Derek’s lack of reaction. He was just kind of staring. Maybe Stiles had finally come up with something so outlandish that he broke Derek. Or maybe Derek was going to clock him in the face and be horribly offended that Stiles was objectifying him or something.

“Erica already agreed to be my girl-date,” Stiles told him. “She’s actually really excited about it. A chance to flaunt her stuff and deliberately make a scene all night long? That’s right up her alley. And you…well, you are by far the most attractive guy I know, so I just thought…”

“You want me to go to senior prom with you, just to be your arm candy?” Derek asked slowly.

Stiles cringed.

“Uh, yeah, that sounds about right. But it’s for a good cause!”

There was another excruciatingly long beat of silence, and then Derek laughed. He laughed hard, head thrown back against the couch cushions, hands slapping against his knees, face scrunched up and shiny bunny teeth on full display. It was the kind of laugh that made Stiles’ heart skip a beat and he was very glad Derek was too preoccupied with his amusement to notice.

“Is this a good laugh or a bad laugh?” Stiles asked.

“Good laugh,” Derek choked out through continued chuckles, wiping at his streaming eyes.

“So does that mean you’ll do it?”

“Yeah,” Derek said, looking up at him with a smile that could stop wars. “Yeah, I’ll do it. Sounds like a good time to me. And, like you said, it’s definitely for a good cause.”

Stiles fist-pumped, already reveling in triumph at the thought of the looks that would be on those biphobic douchebags’ faces.

“I do have one condition, though.” Derek said.

“Anything, dude, you’re the best and I owe you, like, every favor on the planet.”

Derek’s smile widened, a gleam in his eye that made Stiles the tiniest bit hot under the collar.

“I get to pick your suit.”

It’s summertime, and the first few weeks had been brutal. The overpowering heat spent all its time trying to leak in through the closed windows of your house, trying to sink in through the walls, and had actually succeeded from most of its attempts—as a result, making your apartment feel not unlike an oven and letting you just boil on the very spot you stood. Your nights would be filled with laying on top of the covers, trying to will yourself not to sweat in your sleep; your days filled with sitting on the couch or debating whether or not it was worth running to your car just to drive to the mall or to the nearest Starbucks to suck in as much free air conditioner as you could muster.

Not to say that those things still aren’t relevant in your daily life, but things are only different in the slightest because today, you are in a car, drumming your fingers on the skin of your knee as your mom finally makes the turn into a parking lot. Before you, a bus lay ahead of you, a good few dozen or so other kids lingering about, either interacting with others or shifting back and forth amongst the crowd in order to try and get their duffle bags and backpacks loaded onto the bus. You recognize the pillows, the sleeping bags, the light baggage to avoid carrying too much and to avoid having too much to think about. You would know, because you are in a very similar situation—your own pillow tucked underneath your arm, your sleeping bag compressed as best as possible within your duffle bag, enough clothes to last the duration.

You know the protocol because you’ve endeared the pre-summer-camp excitement multiple times in the past, five consecutive years as a camp counselor to be more specific. Yet, you find yourself constantly returning back as a counselor because you absolutely love it. You love interacting with the kids, getting to spend some time up in the mountains where the sky was clearer, as was the lake and the meadows and every other seemingly insignificant thing that has plagued your memory over the past five summers.

You love getting to hang around other individuals who share your interests, who share your excitement for the outdoors and adventures. Speaking of other individuals, you immediately catch sight of a familiar face dashing his way towards you, bright smiles and wide grins to reflect what the next few weeks up in the mountains are going to be like.

“Y/N!” He exclaims, joining your side as soon as your mom pulls into a parking space and lets you know it’s okay to exit the vehicle. “Hey!”

Cr.

First dates are embarrassing. First dates are awkward. I’ve been through countless ones, sitting across from people who bored the living daylights out of me. It was less exciting than watching paint dry. Some dates were so utterly rude - I think you and I both know what it’s like to be on the receiving end on that. But now we both don’t have to waste our time anymore!

With First Date Bait they went out for me! Afterwards, they informed me if it was recommended to go out on a second date. It’s amazing with a 99.99% accuracy rate! That’s how I ended up meeting my husband!

First Date Bait.
Why waste your time with awkward first dates?

He’s late.

That’s not a good sign.

Tony was dying.

Okay no, that was dangerous phrasing, he was not dying – not anymore at least – and those kind of thoughts should be shoved into the scarce parts of his brain that didn’t work. But he was absolutely, pissing tired.

Pulling all-nighters of at least 72 hours of no sleep and bare minimum of food was starting to be a bad idea (somewhere in the back of his mind he heard a voice – ‘Starting to?’ – which sounded suspiciously like Pepper) and Tony was hit with the friendly reminder that he was very much human and on the wrong side of forty.

“A few steps to the left, boss. That’s a wall, not the kitchen. To the right. That’s a painting.”

Thanks, Fri. He would’ve said it aloud, but blurry edges on his sight combined with a notoriously LSD-like color burst, dizziness and muffled hearing kind of hindered his ability to speak at the moment. Coffee. God I need coffee, bowls of it – no, bathtubs of it.

With Friday’s aid, Tony stumbled into the common area and headed for the kitchen. He vaguely registered some murmur, indicating some of his team – yeah right, team – was present. Probably catching up with dear ol’ God of Thunder, who had finally decided to show up for the fiasco that was Civil War and its aftermath, and Banner. Who Tony still had yet to talk to, but felt as if he would only turn another team – ha, team – member against him.

You know, for trying to do things right and failing. Again.

“Mr. Stark! That’s the rice cooker. The coffee maker is to the left!”

Peter’s voice sounded a little less farther away than the others, but still muffled. Tony guessed he was on his favorite bar stool wearing the Spider-Man mask. Not unusual, his identity was a secret to everyone but him of all the Avengers. Wonder how Captain Freezerburn would react if he knew he had fought a 15 year old kid, Tony thought, even though he himself was still wary of Peter’s contribution to the superhero troop.

“Bless you, kid,” he mumbled in response, because despite everything, this spider kid was the one good thing in his life. He still didn’t know how the fuck that worked out, but.

He moved, barely catching Peter’s, “Oh careful, that’s—!” as he took in the splotchy eye-to-brain input of something square and metallic, picked it up and placed it out of the way – were he less zombie-like he’d have heard the heavy tinny sound it made – and made it to the coffee machine. He couldn’t help the noise of triumph when he managed to punch the right button and the mug filled halfway, dripping coffee everywhere in his haste to bring it to his mouth.

Sweet, sweet coffee. He could actually feel the world shift around him now that he had the power of caffeine.

“Ah, that’s the stuff, thanks kiddo. By the way, what the hell are you doing here? Don’t you have school? Are you skipping school again? I vividly recall us having this talk, Web-head,” he said, blinking the world back into clear sight. “Or do I have to call Aunt—what? Do I have something on my face?”

Peter’s eyes – well, the animated specs on his mask – were wide in a gobsmacked expression, mouth clearly open behind the mask. Was he impressed by the coffee? Kid was pretty excitable and Tony just downed the whole mug in one go.

But the others in the room were openly staring at him too, most of them with a similar expression of astonishment, and they’d seen him do that twice in a row, so that made no sense. He felt exposed for some reason, uneasy at the now acknowledged presence of Team Cap, Natasha and Thor in the room.

Uh…

“What?”

What did I do now?

Barton’s plate of pancakes went tumbling to the floor, shattering into pieces right next to Barnes, but the ex-assassin didn’t even flinch, eyes glued to Tony like he had just discovered the secret behind the creation of their universe on his face.

“Tony…?” Rogers breathed, but Tony obviously wasn’t going to look, not at him, so he just turned to Peter with his best what-the-fuck face.

At clear loss for words, he pointed at his left hand. What? Tony hadn’t even realized he was holding something there. Frowning, he glanced down.

Oh.

Oh.

OH.

The Mjölnir. Tony had picked up Thor’s hammer. To move it aside. For coffee. Like it was nothing.

“WHAT?!”

Well.

“I felt like I’d been looking for him my whole life and I didn’t know.”

Before Thomas Kail ever met Lin-Manuel Miranda, he was annoyed by him — or the idea of him, anyway. Kail was a senior at Wesleyan University, about to stage a production of a play he’d written titled “Re: Peter,” when he learned he had to share the performance space with a freshman who had composed a musical called “Seven Minutes in Heaven.”

“I thought, ‘Who is this guy who was taking our lights?’ ” Kail recalls, summoning an upperclassman’s sense of superiority. “A freshman — in a dorm? Well, he wrote a musical. That’s so cute! Little did I know I’d end up spending 13 years of my life working with him.”

Kail tells the story by way of correcting a popular misconception about the origins of the team responsible for the electric new musical “Hamilton”: He never actually knew Miranda during the single school year, 1998-1999, that their university lives overlapped. Nope, Kail and Miranda sealed no personal or creative bond at the Connecticut school. Kail had nothing to do with the earliest version of another musical that Miranda wrote and performed at Wesleyan, “In the Heights” — the show that Kail, a few years later, would help to develop and direct after they finally did meet, in 2002, and that would go on to collect the 2008 Tony Award for best musical.

Even when they’re off doing separate projects, though, Miranda relies on his director-friend for counsel.

“So whether it’s formal or informal,” Miranda says in a phone interview, “we’re stuck with each other.”

Kail and Miranda finally met in the spring of 2002. The spark was instantaneous. Kail visited him at Wesleyan to talk about “In the Heights,” Miranda’s musical about life in a Latino neighborhood of upper Manhattan. Kail had been given the script and score by mutual friends two years earlier, and he was waiting for Miranda to finish school so that, if the two of them clicked, they could work on it in the Drama Book Shop’s theater.

“We sat for five hours that first meeting,” Kail recalls. “I felt like I’d been looking for him my whole life and I didn’t know.”

Kail grasps, of course, the significance of this moment for him. He says, though, that he experiences it not as the potential triumph of any one person, but of the larger group that has made the moment possible.

“There is a line in ‘Hamilton’: ‘The world was wide enough for both Hamilton and me.’ There’s a reason both Lin and I have that line circled,” he says. “Because someone else’s success does not preclude your own ability to achieve.”

Her Thrift Shop

Hey babes! This is an entirely innocent, fluffy oneshot about a reader who works in a thrift shop after school that happens to be right by where her crush, Peter Parker, walks home everyday! They have a few minor interactions before Tony Stark forces Peter to confront his feelings for the reader one day in the shop. I hope that you guys like it!

Her Thrift Shop

The thrift store in which she worked was right smack in the middle of where Peter Parker often walked home. She smiled, balancing her chin on top of her hands as she leaned against the sales counter that she manned, fondly reminiscing of her favorite Peter sightings.

The first time that she had spotted him, Peter had been walking home with his best friend, Ned, while she dragged a rack of clothing outside. They had made direct eye contact from two opposite sides of the street and she’d stumbled over the rack’s wheels, while Peter flat out walked into a streetlamp. She’d done her best to politely stifle the giggle aching to bubble out of her throat, but Ned full on cackled at Peter’s expense. Even from across the street, the girl could tell that Peter was strawberry red. Shoving his palms into his pockets, he paced ahead while Ned was still bent over laughing.

The second time, Peter was walking home with his head bent down, bobbing his head along to the music that coursed through his headphones. She noticed him from inside the shop, peeking her head out from behind the mannequin that she was attempting to wrestle into a figure-hugging dress. She sighed, pausing her frantic movements to walk as Peter peacefully walked by.

He just looked so damn cute all the time. His hair was unruly from the gusts of wind that filtered throughout the city, and his blue sweater looked soft and warm, and she was ready to bet her entire existence that he smelled of clean laundry. She noticed that Peter’s jeans were rolled at the bottom, and her heart ached. There was hardly anything she wouldn’t give to be with him. At this point, she’d settle for a nod of a hello, or a wave, anything that allowed her bask in Peter’s acknowledgement of her existence.

“That’s a cute boy,” her much older co-worker commented loudly from behind her. “Do you know him?” She questioned, wiggling her brows up and down and smirking at her.

The girl’s coworker happened to be her only coworker. The woman owned the tiny consignment store and only had enough money to employ one other salesperson, which happened to be her. The woman was in her early 60s but flirted as if she was still a teen. She was sharp, and witty and never allowed the store’s uniquely vintage merchandise to go for less than it was worth. Utter and complete warmth resided in her eyes, and she was happy to help people create the perfect outfit. Goodness, as well as happiness, radiated from her being. The girl smiled, knowing that her friend was the kind of adult that she’d like to eventually grow into herself. However, she refused to inherit the woman’s brashness in these sorts of situations.

A ferocious blush overcame her features and she quickly averted her gaze and went back to forcing the tiny dress down the hips of the mannequin. “No, he just goes to my school. We haven’t even said two words to one another.”

“Oh, that’s peculiar because he’s got major heart eyes for you right now,” the woman commented, nudging her younger companion’s arm. “Look, say hello!” She began to wave at Peter, much to the girl’s dismay. “Hi sweetie!” The lady called out to Peter’s bashful form across the street.

“No! Oh my gosh, he’s going to think I’m such a weirdo!” The girl cried out, burying her face in the dress.

“Honey, the only reason that he’d think you’re a weirdo is because you aren’t waving back.” The woman shook her head, “he’s absolutely precious, don’t fuck it up! For goodness sake, wave!” She commanded and finally, the girl did, unable to meet Peter’s eyes. The girl did, however, take note that Peter was waving hello back to her.

Her third and final favorite Peter sighting was when she was rushing to park her car, hurriedly taking the first spot available on the side of the street opposite to where the thrift shop sat. As the girl hastily clambered from her vehicle, she’d been so quick to slam her door shut that she had nearly wrecked her hand in the process.

Her eyes were squeezed tightly shut and the girl could feel tears welling up, but someone caught her hand before she could inflict any harm to herself.

“Did it get you?” Peter’s worried, brown eyes peered down at her. “I- I tried to stop it, but it was just so close.” He stammered, cupping his hands together to examine her for damage that he didn’t prevent.

“Peter,” the girl started, coherent words were coming very hard for her at this point in time, “I didn’t even see you. How’d you get here so fast?” Peter was bright red and the girl could tell, judging by the heat she felt all over, that she was too. She mentally chided herself for being so careless. The girl just couldn’t believe that the first conversation that she had with the guy of her dreams would be taking place right after she foolishly almost broke her own wrist.

Peter shook his head as a mumble escaped his lips, “was close to you, but not in a creepy way, I just happened to be walking home and I saw you, and you were there, and your car-” he rambled, still holding her hand.

She cut him off, “thank you, Peter. I’d be in a whole world of hurt without you.”

Peter’s blush only intensified due to the sincerity dripping from her words, he couldn’t even bring his head up to meet her gaze. “Course, least I can do for the pr-, you.” He cut himself off as fast as he could before she realized that he was going to inform her that she was the prettiest girl in their entire high school. Truth be told, Peter had made up his mind that she was positively the prettiest girl to ever exist.

She gestured to the thrift shop, “come in sometime, we’ll hook you up with some neat, vintage apparel!” She cringed inwardly, cursing herself for speaking like an advertisement in front of Peter.

“Yeah! Yeah, totally, definitely, yeah!” Peter said, awkwardly letting her hand go, “I’ll just, yeah! You know, schools have dances, and whatnot. I’ll see you sometime.” He shrugged his shoulders as they each turned to go their separate ways.

“See you soon?” She questioned as Peter smiled and waved, worming his other hand into the pockets of his hoodie, “And Peter? Seriously, thank you again for saving me from my own lateness,” she laughed.

Peter beamed at her, holding eye contact as he backed away from her, a genuine smile sweeping across his features, “It was my pleasure!”

He watched as she ran across the middle of the street and yanked open the thrift store’s door. She turned and waved to him one last time and Peter did the best he could to not skip the rest of the way home. She had literally just told him to come back and see her. He was going to do everything in his power to create some sort of reason for their paths to cross again.

The girl was forced to exit her daydreams when the front door’s bell pinged, alerting the young girl that customers were entering the little shop. She smiled, opening her mouth to begin welcoming them inside, but when she turned, she took note of who her patrons were and  froze, her eyes wide open. Standing the thrift store’s doorway stood a grinning Tony Stark and an evermore timid Peter Parker.

“Peter?” She stuttered out, confusion lacing itself into her tone. Mr. Tony Stark had a nearly endless supply of cash, and she was aware that he’d gotten Peter some expensive items before, so wonder coursed through her body as she tried to figure out why it was that they stood in her tiny, vintage consignment shop.

“See,” Tony said, nudging Peter’s chest with his elbow, “she does too know you.” Peter turned around and she could hear him utter a soft, but powerful, string of curse words as Tony ambled up to her counter. “Hello there, we’re here looking for an outfit for the upcoming school dance, got any ideas?”

Her brows knitted together, “But Mr. Stark, our next school dance is months away?” She fiddled with her necklace, snaring her lower lip between her teeth.

“Ah yes, well, this was all just a clever ploy to get Peter through the door so he could actually talk to you instead of talking everyone he comes into contact’s ear off about you.” A soft gasp fell past her lips as Tony continued, “I’m just going to leave him here. Do what you wish with him, I’m sure that he won’t mind.”

As Tony turned on his heel and neared the door, Peter looked as though he was exasperatingly attempting to communicate something to him, which Tony blatantly ignored, mumbling a, “you’ll thank me later,” as he allowed the door to slam behind him.

After a few moments, Peter turned to her, redder than she’d ever seen him and said, “you know Mr. Stark, he likes his grand entrances and exits both.” Peter did his best to laugh off the bucket of embarrassment that he was currently drowning in, and he made a show of locating the men’s section and sifting through racks of clothes.

From her safe space behind the counter, she knew that she could either do her job and try to actually get somewhere with Peter, or, she could remain behind the glass and rot with the regret of not even trying with him for the rest of her life. Plunking up every ounce of courage that she could muster up, she decided on the first.

Making her way over to where Peter’s body was obscured by articles of clothing, she called out, “is there a specific era that I can help you locate, sir?” She asked, a small smile teasing the corner of her lips.

“I- I, uhm, sure,” Peter stuttered out, his nerves taking control of his body. “Could you help me find something that’ll make me look like Marty McFly?”

She laughed and before she could stop herself, she grabbed Peter’s hand and began guiding him through the endless abyss of clothing to the 80s section. He did his best to ignore the way her hips slightly swayed in her velvet miniskirt, and ignore how floral and sweet she smelled, but Peter couldn’t help but follow her puppy eyes.

“So, here we are at the-” the girl started, but Peter quickly cut her off.

“Do you wanna maybe, shit, I interrupted you,” he dropped his eyes and shifted slightly away from her, “I know that the next dance is a while away, but when it finally gets here, would you want to possibly, maybe, go with me?” He scratched the back of his head and scuffed his sneakers against the floor.

She gasped, her heart rising into her throat, “yes! Yes, yeah, totally! Peter, I’d love to go to the dance with you, but until then, do you maybe want to go to the new art exhibit right around the corner? I get off in an hour or so, if you don’t mind waiting, or if you do, you can come back, or you know, something.”

Peter perked up immediately and began nodding his head wildly, “I’ll wait for you, if that’s alright with you.”

“Of course,” she smiled, moving in closer to Peter, the adrenaline of asking her crush out on a date fueling her to be even more daring. “But only if,” she leaned up onto her tiptoes, her mouth not even a few centimeters away from his, “I can dress you like Johnny Castle from ‘Dirty Dancing’ instead on Marty McFly.”

Peter slipped a delicate arm around her waist and breathed, “if you move a little bit closer, you can dress me however you want.”

Doing as Peter had suggested, she eliminated the space between them, giggling into the first of their many kisses inside of her thrift store.

MASTERLIST

Spider Man: Homecoming was probably the best thing that could’ve happened to you. Acting had always been a dream of your since you were 5 years old. And now, you were living out that dream, in something you’d grew up with: Spider Man.

But that wasn’t the only reason you were happy to do the film. You’d met the most amazing person ever. Tom Holland was the sweetest, most thoughtful, funniest person you’d ever met. He never failed to make you laugh and make you feel comfortable in any situation. Since you were new to the whole fame thing (which you’d gotten almost immediately after you got cast in the movie 3 months ago), Tom was always there to guide you through it, since he was a bit more experienced with it all.

You’d, of course, gotten comfortable with the rest of the cast too, but Tom seemed to put an extra effort into being your friend. A best friend.

And, of course, this had turned into a crush. Like a real life, “I-really-want-to-date-you-because-you-make-my-stomach-flutter-and-heart-palpitate-kind of crush.” Not a “Hanging-out-would-be-cool-and-I-just-really-want-to-make-out-with-you-crush.” You couldn’t help it. He was just too amazing.

“And cut!” the director called out. “That was great guys, I think we’re done for today!”

Everyone gave a small cheer and began to clean up.

The cast was filming the Homecoming scene. You were wearing heels and a green dress. Acting was fun because you got to wear all different kinds of outfits.

The set was on a small incline, so you had to walk down two stairs in order to get off of it. As you were walking down the first step, your heel got caught on the floor below you and you started falling before Tom ran over and helped you stand back up.

Olivia was the girl in school that everybody loved. She was popular and a member of the cheerleader team. But you were the complete opposite. Your group of friends was not that big, just three or four really good and also best friends. While she went out with many other guys you never heard of, you prefered to stay away from these huge events like these big parties on the weekends.

But still, you and Olivia were really good friends in high school. You helped her with her math exam while she tried to introduce you to some handsome members from the high school football team.

And that was the reason why you were now standing in front of a confused Bucky Barnes, who was looking down on you while he took a sip of his coffee “What shall I do?”

Just pretend to be my boyfriend. Please, Bucky, you have to help me“ you pleaded and already wanted to kneel in front of him before he stopped you from doing so and sat down on the couch.

’‘Can you just tell me why I should do that?“ he blinked and sat down his mug of coffee as you sank down beside him and sighed ’'You know, when I was in high school, I wasn’t really popular and I was never really good at talking to the boys I liked and so…I never had a boyfriend when I was going there and neither when I was studying…and my friend Olivia was soo popular and knew so many guys who would have liked to be her boyfriend. She always dated these dream guys and…I was alone. Sitting in my bed and watching TV”

“So you want me to come with you so you can show them that you found your own dream guy?“ he grinned widely while saying dream guy and raised his eyebrows ’'I’m really flattered that you would put me to the dream guys”

“Don’t be so full of yourself, Barnes“ you slapped him playfully and laughed before you asked him again ’'So would you be the most kindest person in the world and be my boyfriend for that evening?”

“I’ll do it but only because it’s you, doll“ Bucky winked at you before threw yourself at him and gave him a big hug ’'Thank you so much, you’re the best“

Only three days later, the big day was there.
You were just standing in the bathroom and put on some mascara when you heard someone knocking on your door. It was Bucky who didn’t bother to just come in ’'Doll, come on! We gotta go if you want to be on time.”

He looked for you and went straight to the bathroom where he found you. Bucky’s mouth fell open when he took in your appearance and blinked a few times after you turned around “You look good. I like that shirt”

You nodded to his black button up shirt which he had combined with some dark blue jeans. The sleeves were rolled up to his elbows.Just then you realized his look and your gaze went down on you
“Is the dress to much? I told Nat it would look stupid on a high school reunion” You already wanted to zip it down when Bucky began to shake his head

“No, you look fantastic! Don’t worry about the others. You look great“You smiled and kissed his cheek ’'Thank you, Buck. So let’s go. We take Tony’s car” Before Bucky could ask if you had even asked for permission, you waved with the keys and he smiled before following you to the elevators.

“You don’t have to be nervous, doll. You look fantastic and you have an amazing job. You’re saving the world with the greatest team and you’re fake dating a superhero” Bucky smiled at you and held your hand while you were still sitting in the car after he parked in the parking lot next to your old high school.

“You’re right. I shouldn’t be nervous. Do you know what you have to say when they asked you how we met?” you savely asked him again to make sure he still knew what to do. Smiling, he nodded and opened his door before leaving the car just like you “Don’t worry, [Y/N]. I know what to do. Just trust me and everything will be fine”
He took your hand and led you to the great building where all the others were already waiting.

They were all gathered in your old main class room and cheered when you came in together with Bucky who was still holding your hand.

“[Y/N]!” Olivia squeaked and came over. She gave you the most tightest hug you ever got that you almost lost your breath before she let go of you “It’s so good to see you again and your..boyfriend?”

Her gaze went to Bucky who smiled friendly and held out his hand for her to take “Hey, I’m James. But everyone calls me Bucky. And yes, boyfriend.”

“You’re doing well, [Y/N]. So, you’re dating a superhero and you’re also a superhero yourself. Wow, that’s really…unexpected” she smiled before Olivia introduced you to her boyfriend who was the trainer of the hometown footballteam.

You two chatted while Bucky always held your hand or gave you a kiss when you told something funny and he laughed about it. It made you blush when his lips kissed your cheek.Something inside you wished that it was real. That Bucky was your boyfriend and you lived in a happy relationship. But it wasn’t true what made you a little bit sad.

“Soo..Bucky, how did you meet [Y/N]? I mean, she barely leaves her room” Olivia laughed but to Bucky, there was nothing funny about it because he knew that sometimes you needed some you-time for yourself which was totally okay for him because he understood it.

“Actually I met her when I was introduced to the whole team” he began and you stopped breathing.

That was not the story he was suppose to tell her.

“Everyone was really friendly but also really careful to be nice and [Y/N] just walked in, by the way she totally forgot that Steve was already introducing me to everyone, and she just went with the words 'So when comes this weird dude with the metal arm?’ and stopped right in the door way when she noticed that I was already there. That was the first thing she said right into my face and it was so adorable because right after that she quickly apologized. I knew that I would like her really much. Then it came that we talked much about everything and nothing til the day came where I asked her out and she gladly said 'Yes’. I was really happy and still am because…she is the best and I love her”

Bucky looked you right in the eye when he said so. He was speaking the truth. You almost wanted to cry when he came closer and kissed you softly on the lips. First you were shocked which you didn’t show but then you smiled into the kiss and returned it.

After you broke the kiss, you looked into his deep blue eyes and smiled softly “I love you too”

Olivia just sat there in silence and took a quick look at her boyfriend before she gave you a fond smile “I’m really happy that you found someone who speaks with so much love about you. You can be proud that you’ve found Bucky”

“I am. I really am” you hold Bucky’s hand and felt that he gave yours a little squeeze before you turned to him again and gave him a kiss.

I hope that’s okay.
