this is actually something the character says she's okay with

anonymous asked:

I’m not sure if you’re someone who gives writing tips, if not that’s okay. I get it. But I was curious. If you’re having a dialogue where the character is ranting, the words are kinda just flying out of their mouths and it’s a lot of words, how would you format that? Like, would you put it all in one paragraph, do you interrupt it with an action (s/he said, waving wildly) or would it just be dialogue?

I do as often as I can! I get a lot of asks, so I apologize to those whose questions I don’t get to :( But I enjoy talking about how I do things/what I’ve learned! Just keep in mind that writing is an art and, like all art, there’s no one true way to do something. So everything I suggest is just that– a suggestion!

Lots of Words Rants!

So you have a character who’s saying a lot of words in a big rant!

1. Static unbroken rant. The benefit here is that the reader, generally, naturally reads this very quickly! It’s probably what you’re looking for when you say “a lot of words” and it definitely stuns both the reader and the other characters! For example:

“You want to know what I think,” she says, mouth a thin line. “Right. Okay. Well I think it’s interesting how you only look for an opinion when people owe you something. I think it’s really convenient that you wait until you can deny someone something, something like basic human rights, before crowd sourcing validation and then you think that it means shit when they don’t speak against you. I think you’re a coward and that no amount of intimidation or ass-kissing will break through the denial you’ve got going on. So if you’re looking for me to tell you that you’re a hero or that we can’t do this without you, you should wait until you actually have something on me.”

The silence is deafening as she takes another sip of her coffee, Damien’s mouth opening and closing as he tries to come up with a response. He looks around the table, hoping to see similar shock, and receives another unpleasant surprise when no one will meet his eyes.

There are two problems that I’ve had with the Big Wall of Text. One, it can lose the reader! Despite emotion or content, it’s easy to skip from the first sentence or two to the last line or two. Some readers will read it quickly, but others might skip it entirely.

Second, with no physical movements, it can be hard to get back into the scene, especially since unbroken rants w/o movement generally end in silence.

2. Active Unbroken Rant. Breaking up a rant with action keeps the reader’s attention and makes them read a little closer. It also has the benefit of giving the rant some texture by escalating or deescalating the emotion in each part or by providing emphasis.

“You want to know what I think.” She shakes her head. “Right. Okay. Well, I think it’s interesting how you only look for an opinion when people owe you something. “

Damien’s jaw tenses and she can tell that he wants to lean away from her as she stands, looming over the table, coffee forgotten. All around them, the other rebels are staring at her wide-eyed.

“I think,” she continues, biting off the ends of her words, “that it’s really convenient that you wait until you can deny someone something, something like basic human rights, before crowd sourcing validation and then–” she bares her teeth “– you think that it means shit  when they don’t speak against you.”

He doesn’t look away from her, not to the left or right where his devoted followers are, as usual, sitting uselessly. She can barely stand it.

Her words come faster now, like a flood after the damn has been broken. “I think you’re a coward and that no amount of intimidation or ass-kissing will break through the denial you’ve got going on. So if you’re looking for me to tell you that you’re a hero or that we can’t do this without you, you should wait until you actually have something on me.”

So with breaks for action/reaction, you get a scene that’s a little more urgent than the one without action. Action helps the emotion build in the rant whereas the static rant feels more like a slap in the face.

The downside here is that you have to build the tension and keep everyone’s  body language appropriate to the scene.

3. Broken Rant (active or static). So it’s a rant and you want the fast-talking character to be the star of the scene. Seems counter-intuitive to have another character talk, but it can actually help speed up the reading of the scene while also showing that this rant is dominating it. For example:

“You want to know what I think,” she says. She shakes her head. “Right. Okay. Well, I think it’s interesting how you only look for an opinion when people owe you something.”

Damien jerks like he’s been slapped. “What is that–”

“I think,” she continues, giving no indication of hearing him, “ that it’s really convenient that you wait until you can deny someone something–”

“Hey–”

“–something like basic human rights,  before crowd sourcing validation and then you think that it means shit when they don’t speak against you. I think you’re a coward and that no amount of intimidation or ass-kissing will break through the denial you’ve got going on.”

The silence rings around the table, the tension so think between her and the other rebel that no one dare move.

Eliza leans forward and picks up her coffee. “So,” she says, still staring him down, “if you’re looking for me to tell you that you’re a hero or that we can’t do this without you, you should wait until you actually have something on me.”

The little interjections from Damien, and the way I’ve broken them off, shows that things are happening very quickly. It’s a broken back and forth that both ups the tension and the speed!

Hope this helps! If you have any more questions feel free to drop by, I’ll try and get to them asap :)

Fairy Tail Chapter 524 review

Alright lets dive into chapter 524 “Black Future”

Our cover page is Cana and yes we’ve gone back to glamour shots.  Also Cana seems to have Midnight’s reflector magic given the way the city is bending.

We open with Acnologia’s return and hopefully some actual quality will return to the narrative.

Okay points to Mashima for remembering that no one except Zeref and Irene know Acnologia has a human form. Also just walking past Erza like a mother fucking boss. Only way to make it better is if he had one arm out like he did with God Serena

Okay lets all be fair after the shit Irene put us all through for 4 weeks, tell me who wouldn’t want to do this to her.

Don’t know how this is a sin but hey maybe we’ll get more on it.

So we cut away to Natsu and Zeref’s fight.

So after a few pages of some decent action we get Zeref’s monologue.

Okay first, I did a whole post theorizing Natsu and Zeref’s power and I’ll just sum it up that in term of strength Natsu and Zeref are equal but due to the fact Zeref is Immortal there really is no way to win. So I don’t think Natsu is too outclassed here.

Also Natsu says here “the power of Me”. Now that does seem out of character as Natsu seems to talk a whole lot of the power of Fairy Tail, but you know what, I’m glad it’s something different. That a character actually has total confidence in their own strength to justify why they can win.

Yeah Zeref I know you want to die but I don’t think it was your goal to wipe out humanity. You wanted to die with Acnologia but the power of Fairy Heart would destroy everyone when released.

We cut to August vs Gildarts and Cana

Say August I’m surprised how up your majesty’s ass you are, tell me what’s it smell like.

THANK YOU CANA! See we needed more moments like this especially because honestly we’ve heard this shit from Natsu, Lucy, Erza and Wendy so many times it doesn’t matter but when we have side characters declaring they’ll protect what’s precious to them it actually seems like this war means something, that it isn’t just a fight for team natsu it’s a fight for everyone. Now I do think this could’ve been stronger if say a character from another guild like Lyon or Kagura said this but y’know Cana hasn’t gotten to do anything so I’m good with this.

YES YES YES

Oh come on!

Seriously why can’t this ever work on people? Okay with Bluenote I was okay with it because we had Cana getting a brand new power and she doesn’t know how to use it. But come on she’s used it since and to great effect.

Wow this really is the Bluenote fight all over again, Fairy Glitter fails and Gildarts now has to fight back. Also I know it sounds cheesy with “not knowing the magic of love” but remember in this series magic is influenced heavily through people’s emotions and love is a very strong one, I just hope it doesn’t become totally cheesy. Also August if you’re a master of all magic do you have some lost magic. Because it seems you’re a master of only well known magic granted that is a large variety. Also next chapter we are going to most likely go a get something on Larcade, thank god.

Post Chapter follow up: this was a okay chapter. I’ll get my cons outta the way. Why can’t Cana and Fairy Glitter ever do a damn thing against people. It’s not even like Hiro hasn’t made Cana look cool before, he has,but when it comes to fights she usually gets shafted. So this big moment of using FairyGlitter feels like a waste. It be better if Cana used Fairy Gltter and August took damage and was able to stand up to it would affirm that he is Gildarts level but also give the side character some credit for weakening him.

My other issue is just a nitpick but Zeref even seems to be conflicted again. I know he’s this being of contradiction but now it’s starting to get too confusing at this point.

But on the plus side, I really like the atmosphere of everyone feeling Acnologia’s power, it’s just great tension building. Also Acnologia stomping on Irene is just so great.

The fights are pretty good and I actually like Natsu vs Zeref having Natsu say I believe in my power because while it is something that seems out of character and out of the series message, it still is something different and nice to see.

Cana standing up to August is great but as I said it could’ve been stronger if another character from another guild did it to once again show that this war affects everyone.

Final Verdict: 6/10

  • Just above average
  • I Do dislike the pointlessness of Fairy Glitter
  • The tension is still strong
  • action was pretty good

Anita Sarkeesian

I’ll get this out of the way real fast, first off, I don’t like her, I think she’s a con-artist, and a liar.  Okay?  Okay, not lets go into why.  She says she likes video games, she said so in her kickstarter campaign,

she says so in interviews, basically she says it a lot.  But what about before she was getting all this money for being a “woman in gaming?”

Oh…well that’s not nearly as nice.  That won’t raise nearly the amount of money you need!  Luckily she lied and raised well over her $6,000asking funds.

Yeah all that money originally just to make five videos (now expanded to twelve) which she has not completed.  So what has she been up to instead of those videos she has over $150,000 for?  Well she’s tweeting and going on tv of course!

Here’s a particularly vile tweet by her about how males in general are to blame for mass shootings.  Then here’s her on the Colbert Report.

Oh and as far as what she’s saying her, well she better try and make sure her and Mcintosh are on the same page because here’s the writer of feminstfrequency saying that a certain factual feminist can’t be a feminist because…fuck I guess just because he says so.

Yeah, so much for giving feminist a voice, douchebag.

Also about her being on the Colbert Report, if you look on youtube there’s something interesting about that video.

Yeah, you can’t comment.  Look familiar?

Now they say it’s because she’s a woman and people will harass her, but then why does Mcintosh’s video have the comments disabled as well?

Especially when that very video says that he’s more likely to be taken seriously because he’s male?  Also why do none of the Colber Report’s other video have disabled comments?

Political figures and whatever else, psh say what ever you want, but put a feminist up there and no no don’t be mean to her!

Anita says that games don’t represent women well physically or mentally, but really she cherry picks quite a bit.

The weird thing is she seems to acknowledge that these games exist then when you think she might say something smart she just turns around and goes, “lol but those don’t matter!”

She attacks games like Bayonetta for having a sexualized character,

and I suppose she doesn’t really care that the creator of the character design was a woman named, Mari Shimazaki, who admitted to it being a kind of power fantasy.

A woman, I’m guessing, who also wouldn’t appreciate her character being referred to as a “fighting fuck toy.”

Now, that’s just rude.

Other than that when she does actually get around to making a video she steals art and let’s play footage and rarely bothers to actually play the games herself unless it’s to make a character do something intentionally misogynistic that no one else who plays the game is doing, otherwise she’d have probably just used their footage.   She says that because certain games give players the ability to kill women, even if they get penalized for it, that it still reinforces the belief that violence towards women is okay.  Which is sort of like saying that because Mirror’s Edge allows me to fall off a building it’s reinforcing the belief that I should jump from the empire state building.  It’s just stupid.  And that’s pretty much what I think about her in her entirety, she’s a liar, a con-artist, and pretty dumb to boot.

I'm actually working on some Pearl redisgns and a character overhaul for a fix-it fic sideblog, and you make an excellent point with the blood/tears/etc.! I want the gems to feel more like... Stone statues? Than humans? Okay basically what I'm trying to say is that When Pearl gets scratched up in looked like slightly melted sandstone and when she cries it's made of glass

holy SHIT dude that’s a cool idea!! Since she’s got control over sand and all I think that’s definitely something to consider in a redesign! Also, glass fuckin tears? Quality

Note: imagine Garnet, in her appreciation for art, takes the tears that Pearl leaves around and makes pretty hanging art and stuff with them. Pearl cries enough for it

Consider Marinette and her influence on Chloé as Ladybug:

I think it would be interesting if, as Ladybug, Marinette realizes that Chloé idolizes her, and uses that to try to change her more negative qualities for the better. I think it would be an awesome way to bring about her “redemption” that fits well within the canon.

And when I say redemption I hope ya’ll don’t think I want this girl to become sugary sweet because to me that’s gross ew. Chloé functions perfectly personality-wise at her core, especially in relation to the story and other characters around her. She’s very mean and a downright bully and that’s not okay, but she’s assertive and carriers herself with confidence in a way that I think we can all get behind to an extent; she’s honest and goes after what she wants. Her love for Ladybug also saves her from being the overly trope-y popular girl archetype, and for that I’m grateful. It’s the most important fact to remember about her, in my opinion. It’s crucial. Alongside her friendship with Sabrina because that is HELLA important. It SEEMS exploitative at first, but if you think about it, it’s honestly beneficial to them both. Chloé is who she is; she THINKS everyone loves her, but honestly she doesn’t force anyone to be her friend. You don’t see her really making anyone hang out with her or threatening people to follow her around. As the mayor’s daughter she could honestly pull of some messed up shit if she wanted to. Sabrina stays by Chlo’s side because she wants to be there; she likes to feel needed. And Chloé likes to feel pampered, so it works for them. It might not be the best of friendships in YOUR eyes, but you have to admit it’s functional, consensual, and neither of them are complaining, so why should we?

SO BACK TO CHLOE’S “REDEMPTION”. I feel like if someone idolizes LB, they can’t be all bad. Ladybug is pretty yes, and cool, and I’m sure people love her for that as well, but she’s unwavering in her kindness and consideration for others above everything else. You can’t adore her and not care about that; it’s the core of what she represents for Paris. I want to see the origins of Chloé’s love for Ladybug for her POV so bad. My guess is it started when LB saved her from Papillon, but I want to know her THOUGHTS on Ladybug in that moment and all the moments afterward. Because I know she sees something in LB that she wishes she had, that’s what admiration is all about. She isn’t just a fan, Chloé seriously respects Ladybug and wants to BE her. She literally LARPs and cosplays as this girl in her free time in PRIVATE. That’s not something you do just because you want a selfie with Paris’s hero for your own reputation.

So that got me thinking: What if Marinette used this as a positive thing, instead of being super annoyed at Chloé and her clinginess while she’s transformed? Of course it makes for great comedic irony at this stage in the story, but as it develops I can definitely see an opportunity for Marinette to teach Chloé some life lessons via her idol. When she upset Chloé in Antibug, she apologized and Chlo was just like “Oh! Okay well I forgive you!” UM hello?! That’s AMAZING. Most people don’t just bounce back from being insulted/offended like that. Especially by the person they idolize. But with Chloé all of the resentment just disappeared with a simple apology.

Like honestly, that’s an amazing character trait to have. I actually really admire that. She’s extremely receptive to anything LB says, and that’s something Mari should notice and respond to I think. She’s absolutely stubborn with everyone else, but with Ladybug she’s completely open. It’s the perfect opportunity to fix things. Its easy to hate someone, especially when they’ve hurt you, but it’s really hard to forgive. And Mari is definitely a person who is quick to paint others as the “wrong” party (Lila, Chloe when she tried to help, Adrien when he was picking the gum off of her seat etc)

I mean even it we wanted to be super clinical about it, at the end of the day it’s beneficial to defuse Chloe’s mean streak in order to prevent more akuma, lol. We all know Chlo causes quite a few of them, so Marinette should at least talk with the girl more, if only to make her workload a little more manageable. Hang out with her a bit, try to nudge her into good social habits that aren’t so condescending and mean-spirited. This is me considering it just from Mari’s perspective, because I don’t think she’s warmed to Chlo enough yet to suffer through this for purely selfless reasons. Years of bullying are hard to just “forgive” for the sake of compassion.

But truth be told, I want it to come from a positive place. I’m sure Chloé has her demons, and whatever they are, insulting and bullying others helps her feel better somehow. If as Ladybug, Marinette could offer some support here and there, some advice, some guidance, perhaps a stern scolding as well, I think it would make a huge difference not just in her and Chloe’s lives, but the lives of their classmates. And hey perhaps Marinette could learn a thing or two from Chloé as well.

I think deep down, even though Chloé’s invasion of Adrien’s personal space is icky and not okay to do, Marinette wishes she had a BIT of that kind of confidence to approach Adrien and make it known how she feels. If it’s one thing Chloe isn’t, it’s shy. I think part of her dislike of Chloe comes from the fact that she does so easily what Marinette cannot seem to do without tripping and stuttering and embarrassing herself. Just like how Chloe’s dislike of Marinette is most definitely stemmed from how well-liked she is; how despite her flaws everyone loves her for HER, not anything like money or fame.

My favorite thing is this: picture Mari as LB confiding in Chloé about her crush (oh man if she knew it was Adrien I wonder what she’d do hahaha) and Chlo cheering her on like:

CB: “OMG girl you’re freaking LADYBUG, you just gotta go up to him and sweep him off his feet. Just be like “Hey there handsome, it’s me, the savior of Paris, wanna fly into the sunset on my awesome yo-yo?” (ahh yes the Ladrien)

LB: Pfft! Oh my gosh no WAY can I do that. I have to keep my identity a secret Chloe! And I am NOT going to use my hero status to pick up guys! -_-

CB: Ugh, why not?! You already save Paris like, all the time anyway, do something for yourself for once! Use them perks girl!

LB: I’m so awkward around him though…and he doesn’t even notice me in my civilian form…

CB: Ew! Forget that loser then. You’re Ladybug, you’re super pretty and you rock no matter what. Trust me, there’s this annoying girl at school named Marinette Dupain-Cheng who is BEYOND embarrassingly awkward, and tons of guys still like her, so that’s no excuse!

LB: *coughs loudly* W-what?

CB: Anyway, this is tré tragique, if you can’t get the guy, where’s the hope for the rest of us? What’s his name? I’m going to stalk him on social media to see if he’s even WORTHY of you. Want me to catphish him for you? I can totally-

LB: NO! God, Chloé do not use your status to mess with people anymore. Please. He’s allowed not to like me back, it’s not a crime! I’m just a huge coward that’s all…but thanks for sticking up for me. I wish I had that confidence…

CB: “Hmm well! You just need some girl power. Selfie sessions always do the trick. Now gimme the fiercest look you got girl! This filter loves you!”

And a few days later, when Chloe gave Alya the selfies for her to put on the Ladyblog so everyone would know she and LB were super close BFFS, Adrien Agreste definitely dID NOT download multiple pics of Ladybug by herself with the flower crown filter on. Nope nope nope

Right? Eh? Eh?? :D Can you dig it or can you dig it? Hahaha. I’m back at it again with the Great Wall of Text™ folks I know, apologies but this had to be said! I think Chloe and LB could be friends, and maybe even Mari and Chlo can settle differences in a big way. Not besties but, yeah. Definitely cool with each other. Like respect at least. Okay I’ve poured my feels out on this for long enough for now ahem. I need to get some breakfast. And also a life. LOL

Does this mean Lance would be Stephanie

No way, it’s def Allura.

God okay let me assign the rest of the roles (pulls up lazytown.wikia.com)

  • Okay, Keith is definitely Trixie- Oh my god, Keith is actually, literally Trixie.
    • “Trixie is a main character in LazyTown. She is known for disobeying most rules and saying whatever is on her mind. Her character was designed to represent the negative effects of having little respect for others.
    • “The troublemaker, the rule-breaker and free spirit, Trixie likes to play pranks and definitely thinks outside the box. If there’s a traditional way to do something, she’ll never find it.
    • “She is opinionated and strong-headed and extremely lacking in patience. Sometimes the other kids just want to tell her to “chill out”.”
    • This AU is becoming very, very real, very, very fast.
  • Pidge is Pixel I’m yelling!!!
    • Computer genius, inventor, antisocial behavior, Big Nerd
  • Lance is a little bit like Ziggy?? He wants to be a superhero too and he really looks up to Coran lol. But he’s also a little bit like Stingy, if we focus more on Lance’s kind of big ego lol
  • If we go.. the food route.. then Hunk is… Ziggy. But considering the you-know-what that was season 2, let’s just say that Hunk is a combination of Ziggy and Pixel, but his Pixel traits are a little bit more predominant lol
    • Pixel has been shown to have some anxiety when it comes to social interactions, which is a little bit like Hunk. Both prefer to stick to situations they’re familiar/comfortable with, etc. It’s not that deep of an au lololol
  • Shir could be Mayor Meanswell just because he spends most of his time like ‘this is fine :|^)’ usually when everything is like, burning.

Is this a… serious au

Question About Writing Trans Characters

One of my beta readers told me that prejudice against transgender people from family members (specifically minors whose parents refuse to acknowledge their true gender identity and often dead-name or misgender them) is on its way out and that by the time a book I’m writing right now, in 2017, is actually published in like 2019 or 2020, experiences like that will be mostly unrelatable because most trans kids in the age group I’m writing for - upper YA - won’t have experienced those things. In short, she’s saying that while it’s okay for me to write about trans characters, I really shouldn’t include family-instigated prejudice against them because it will make my work seem “dated” or something.

I’m not trans. I haven’t experienced transphobia firsthand but I’ve talked to people who deal with it - but I’m an adult and most of the trans people I talk to/know are my age or older. Most of the people on Tumblr are teens or young adults under 30. What do you guys think? Do you see family-instigated transphobia being almost unheard of in 2 years? 5 years? 10 years? Do you think a kid dealing with transphobia would make that character unrelatable to actual trans people? Everything I’ve researched says this isn’t true but I figured to be safe I would check with trans people actually in the age group I’m writing for or who will be in that group by the time my book were to be published because it’s not my place to speak for non-cis people and most of the articles I’ve read on the subject are by grown-ups.

I don't know if anyone has told you about the RinShi "friendzone" thing yet but people are mad because the translation was wrong. Rin never said anything about being friendzoned in the first place. It's kind of degrading that scene and I think it's also creating some character hate for Shiemi for no legit reason?

He actually says it in the English Viz version as “she’s relegated me to permanent friend status” (basically a subtle way of saying friendzoned).

Tbh I don’t understand what all the fuss is about but I ain’t mad at anyone or anything. If someone disagrees with something, that’s okay, but personally I see nothing wrong with it and I’m sure Rin wouldn’t use it in a sexist manner lol

The kiss just makes so much more sense now, too.

Like, while being really happy, I always had the nagging thought that Taliesin wouldn’t have had Percy do it if he hadn’t heard the sibling conversation (look at him flirting with the camera, that smug bastard).

But now we know that he’d been wanting to do this ALL THE TIME but considered himself to be too broken and bad for her to actually go for it, or for Vex to even remotely feel the same, and all that angsty stuff.

But there she is, tripping over her words to point out to him how good he is for forgiving Ripley, and showing him that she CARVED SOMETHING IN HER WEAPON which can NEVER NOT BE, you know, a reference to when he had shit carved in his weapons, and he’s like, damn. Maybe this is good. Maybe I am worthy. Maybe I won’t ruin everything and especially her.

Like, regardless of whether he heard what went on during the resurrection (after the incident with the cosplayer I’d actually say that he did), this incident just finally, finally showed the character that it’s okay (to want things, gnihihi).

..This also explains Taliesin’s reaction at the end. More than baiting the internet, this is him finally getting to do what he’s been sitting on for ages and ages.

Gaaah. Why are they so perfect.

Thoughts on Season 2 of Voltron

Okay…So, I finished the second season of Voltron earlier today, and while my mind is low-key still trying to process every little fucking thing that happened, I’m just gonna come on out and say it:

I enjoyed Season 2 despite the flaws.

So, now, what I’m about to say are thoughts and opinions. Some opinions might make you think I’m stupid, some opinions might make you downright upset, and some just might make you a little confused and wonder what the hell is going on through my head. Hell, some opinions might even be agreed upon or supported. Either way, keep in mind that every person has opinions. You can agree to disagree, or disagree to agree.

But these opinions are what I see in my perspective. So without further ado, let’s get started.

Okay…so I got a LOT to say about this season. I’m just gonna say these things:

  1. I hated Lance’s characterization in this season.
  2. Allura’s views on judgement was shitty and pissed me off to no end.
  3. Everyone except Keith got like…I don’t know, 10% of development. While Keith got 90%
  4. Development potential was practically squandered.

So, let’s review.

First, Lance’s characterization.

I am a HUGE fan of Lance. Out of all the characters, Lance has not only won my heart and obsessive love the moment he came onto my screen, but he also earned my curiosity.

Don’t get me wrong. I love the other characters, okay? I don’t pick favorites. Like, I love them so very much that I want to adopt them. But Lance is like the one character I am rooting for the most. Mainly because we got to see something that he never showed to anyone else but Coran in Season 1, where he craves to go home and is unsure of his position of being a paladin, along with not knowing how long it was going to take before he could return home.

It was at that exact moment he had potential.

He had potential to grow and be better. According to sources, they claimed he would say at one point in the second season: “Oh, you know, I’m just, like, a boy from Cuba.” (which was supposed to be said in spanish to show that he was not only bilingual, but that we get to see more of his cultural side), however, Jeremy had a hard time so they decided to wait on that until he had a “better handle of it”, which is something I can completely understand.  (Source)

However, they also said many times in panels, talk shows, etc. might I add, that they were gonna have Lance grow leadership skills, and most importantly, show off his insecurities.

While I will admit that I did see those things, it was practically non-existent. We pretty much got to see a couple moments of leadership skills and only one moment of insecurities leaking out.

Meanwhile, we deal with the same jokes over and over again with Lance flirting with Allura and constantly getting rejected, and his flirting with any attractive female alien he sees.

Not only that, but it sort of felt like they degraded him to the stereotypes that people in this fandom have made for him.

It’s bad enough as it is going on tumblr or on AO3 and I see posts, fanfictions, and art practically stereotyping him as ‘the flirt’, ‘the idiot’‘the side character’, etc. The list goes on and on, and it’s horrible seeing those stereotypes that people make of him. It became even worse seeing the writers bring those stereotypes to light and practically making him the embodiment of those stereotypes.

While they didn’t reduced him entirely, he pretty much became a side character in general. He hardly got screen time, we didn’t really see how he develops as a person, and we only got to see him being his flirtatious self which got old pretty quickly.

Honestly, Allura and Lance had a chance of being good friends in episode 7 when Allura agreed she wanted something shiny, and it would’ve been a perfect opportunity for a growing friendship and we see that Allura doesn’t think of him as annoying or just some flirt. But I can also understand Coran’s need to protect the princess, as he was completely unaware that time changes and that the world they once lived in long ago wasn’t like that anymore. After all, it’s been 10,000 years, you can’t possibly expect a black market to still be there after all those years.

Throughout this season, I was pretty disappointed to see Lance reduced to such. But, I am going to be optimistic and hope that in the next possible season, we will actually get to see Lance develop into something much more than what people in this fandom stereotype him to be. I love Lance…so very much. I’m no expert in character development, but I do have hope for the writers and I will keep my faith in knowing what their doing.

You know what they say:

“There’s always a good in every bad.”

Allura’s views on judgement was shitty and pissed me off to no end.

Okay..I have huge respect for Allura as a whole.

  • She’s strong
  • She’s independent
  • She’s smart
  • She’s got amazing leadership skills
  • She gave up the only thing she had left of her father to protect Coran and the Paladins.
  • And she knows when to fight and back down.

However, in this season, she frustrated me. I still have respect for her and my anger for her got better, but the wound is still fresh. I hated her decision in thinking “All Galra are backstabbers” and such. While I do see where she is coming from, especially when the very kind destroyed her home, her family, her future, I seriously felt like she had no right to instantly lump Keith with the Galra after finding out he had Galran heritage in his veins.

It was just awful to watch Keith be constantly ignored and treated differently by Allura because of that fact, and it made me tired of her shit constantly.

However.

I grew to understand her point of view along with the fact that she apologized to Keith about her unacceptable behavior towards him, and also got to learn Haggar being Altean. She got to experience that there are “different sides of the same card”, and it brought such amazing development of understanding that it made me happy the very moment she got smacked in the face with that fact and it gave her a huge learning experience that she will surely never forget.

I honestly grew proud of Allura for learning a life lesson like that. Hopefully, we will see more of that in the next season.

Everyone except Keith got less development.

While I am happy Keith got development and the story of the season was mostly focused on him and his personal turmoils (since pretty much everybody hardly knew jack shit about him and who he was), I wanted to see the other characters develop too. Like Pidge got some development and I was happy with that, Hunk didn’t get much development but I saw a bit, and Lance got less development out of all of them. Shiro got like 50% because it revolved around the bond of his lion, and I was really proud of him for understanding the fundamentals of being a paladin of voltron and gaining all of the lion’s bond from Zarkon.

Keith however, was the main focus, and we got to to learn he is actually is Galran (which I am happy the voltron writers responded to). It’s one thing to focus on a character. That’s like, perfectly fine. It’s just, the writers and even their twitter gave us so much hype for other things and those other things didn’t happen or it did happen but it was barely there.

Like I said, I am keeping optimism and hoping everyone gets a chance to shine.

Development potential was practically squandered.

Yea, I felt that it was squandered.

It was like what I pointed out with Lance and his development in this season. Hunk got like a little development despite his potential of being something more, and Pidge got some since we saw her bond with her lion and become stronger and learn new powers with Green and all that.

Keeping optimism though, I’m sure all the other characters are going to get a chance to grow and actually not be half-assed because usually when characters are pushed to the side and the story focuses on one or two, it’s usually a good sign and there’s a good reason why they don’t have as much focus in the story.

Now here are things I did enjoy:

  • I love how Lance became a playful-like character in certain parts of the show
  • I love how Keith was found to be a galra
  • I love how Pidge developed with her lion.
  • I love how Shiro took all the bond Zarkon had with the black Lion away from him
  • I love how we got to see more of Hunk and his culinary skills
  • I love how Coran is still the same ol Coran we know and love
  • I love how we got new allies and more characters
  • I love how there was a rebellion team that was for Galra’s who didn’t approve Zarkon’s means of power
  • I love how we got to see Zarkon at a breaking point and become desperate for the Black Lion
  • I love how we got to see interaction with Shiro and Keith
  • I love how we got to see Keith’s dad
  • I love how Shiro grew stronger
  • I love how the paladin’s never gave up hope despite their position of losing.
  • I love how Voltron won.
  • And I love the cliffhanger and can’t wait to see more.

Gaslighting or gas-lighting is a form of mental abuse in which information is twisted or spun, selectively omitted to favor the abuser, or false information is presented with the intent of making victims doubt their own memory, perception, and sanity

You know what this reminds me of? This chapter:

Pretty sentiments. But complete and utter bullshit. Kagome actually has every right to hate Kikyou’s guts. And the way Rumiko Takahashi twists and glosses things to make it like its all Kagome’s fault is one of the most disgusting things in the manga.

See Kikyou has consistently treated Kagome like shit and Kagome had every right to confront her about it. But of course Kagome gets to have the ~realization~ that she imagined it all. All so Kikyou will never have to actually confront all the crap she’s pulled.

Look at how she sent Kagome off to begin with. Way to go with the passive aggressive unnecessary comments Kikyou:

Keep in  mind she’s spouting all this while 100% believing that Kagome wont succeed.

She ‘s so stupid and proud that she’s willing to send a potential ally (who could help her) on a wild goose chase.

Even excluding the fact that Kikyou’s 100% willing to use Kohaku, Kagome has every right to have negative feelings towards her based on how she’s treated her in the past. You need a refresher on Kikyou’s bs??

Is it any wonder that Kagome thinks Kikyou is testing her and making fun of her?

Even without all that look how carelessly Kikyou destroys Kagome’s work.

Kagome shot Naraku? Dont worry Kikyou is going to give him a new body:

Kagome has gathered a lot of shards after working hard, fighting and making sacrifices? Don’t worry. Kikyou’s going to steal them and give them to Naraku.

So basically ALL THROUGHOUT the manga Kikyou has been messing up Kagome’s work (work Kagome made sacrifices to do) and looking down her nose at her and testing her without offering any sort of training or help whatsoever. But according to RT KAGOME is a big old meanie for disliking her precious Kikyou. To have your head stuck THAT far up a marysue’s ass is amazing.

Remember Kikyou has pulled all this crap and never atoned for it to Kagome. Like Kikyou had so much time? Without being a vain asshole she could have offered some training to Kagome?? But she didnt because she’s too proud and RT NEEDS her to be the only special snowflake who is dangerous to Naraku -_-

So what exactly was the Azusa arc supposed to accomplish? Make Kagome realize that she is ~inferior~ to Kikyou in Inuyasha’s heart ? That’s already been done:

To make her realize that she’s equal to Kikyou? That’s what the whole fandom seems to believe except for one tiny problem. Kagome is immediately hit with this:

Azusa arc was not a Kagome development arc. It was about brainwashing Kagome and forcing her to let go of her legitimate grievances towards Kikyou and thus forcing readers to ignore Kikyou’s previous actions too.

I mean look at this bullshit. Kagome disliking Kikyou is such a huge crime that RT goes through all this trouble to set up these two bullshit chapters

And these legitimate negative feelings that Kagome has are treated as oh noez ~so impure~

But KIKYOU using an 11 year old boy’s guilt and suicidal tendencies to manipulate him into sacrificing himself to fulfill HER goal are in RT’s words:

LMAO Kagome having legitimate negative feelings are impure but Kikyou using someone else to achieve her own goals produces ~dreadful purity~ Good one RT.

If this manga was being written by a legitimately talented author (as opposed to a 12 year old in a grownass woman’s body) Kagome’s big revelation would have been: Kikyou maybe important to Inuyasha but that doesn’t mean she has to be important to Kagome too. Its okay if Kagome doesn’t like her because Kagome is an individual not a god and she has her own legitimate history with and feelings towards Kikyou. But wait. For that to happen Kikyou would actually have to be a well written character rather than the glorified author’s pet she turned out to be. -_-

You can say you believe something “because the author said so.” But there is something to be said for analysis. It shows that you’re not just blindly swallowing whatever the author is dishing out but actually thinking about what you’re reading.

What not to do when killing off the love interest in a love story? I have my story all worked out just not sure how to write the end. The boy dies and the story is told from the girls point of view. Love your blog. Thanks for your help.

  • Don’t drag out the death too long. You know those exaggeratedly long death scenes in some of Shakespeare’s play where someone gets stabbed and goes on to give a full monologue and reveal the entire plot of the bad guy to the other characters before finally dying a whole scene later? No disrespect to the Bard but try not to do that. Even if they are dying of an illness the actual death scene shouldn’t go on forever. The novelty and shock kind of wears off after a while and the reader ends up thinking “So…is he going to die or not?”
  • Don’t beat it to death (excuse the pun). Any death in a story should have meaning in some way, whether it’s because it drives the characters to complete their goal, give up, triggers some new complication or even if it shows the antipathy of another character. But be careful not to make EVERYTHING about the death either. The girl will mourn her love interest’s death but it’s not like she’s going to sit in a corner and think solely about that.
  • Don’t immediately give her a replacement love interest. It really bugs me when this happens in books/movies. He wasn’t a gold fish that your parents can just go out and replace before you even noticed it was dead. If she actually loved him she wouldn’t really be emotionally ready to even think about another person in that way for some time. And by time I don’t mean a week.
  • On the other hand, don’t make her single for the rest of her life. I don’t know how much time your story is going to span so I think i should also mention that even though she should take her time to mourn and move on, she should eventually be able to find someone else she can love. She probably won’t ever forget this dead love interest and maybe she’ll have doubts or guilt in the beginning, but it’s a process and one day she should be okay with connecting with someone else.
  • Don’t slap the readers with a moral. This actually goes for all morals in writing, not just in death scenes. if the death is meant to teach the readers something, let them figure it out. If you blatantly say “His taught us all that life is precious and we should enjoy it while we can” I think it kind of takes away from the message. You can have the characters talk about their feelings and show how this death has changed their plans or actions to really show what the message means rather than just stating it.
  • Don’t kill him off in any of the ways listed in this link: The Worst & Most Frustrating Ways To Kill Off Main Characters, which include sudden and out of nowhere deaths or deaths because of random stupidity. Seriously, it’s aggravating and does nothing to improve the story.
rant lol

disclaimer: i do love lila/volpina, even after this epsiode. i knew i was digging my own grave making up and agreeing with headcanons about a character that hasn’t shown up yet but that’s part of the fun of being a part of a fandom so like…u can’t really blame me lol

anyways,

I know people have their reasons for hating Chloe and hating Lila, but honestly seeing Lila get dragged so much by the fandom and being seen as a worse person than Chloe upsets me.

Because I know for a fact that it’s only because Lila was flirting with Adrien. If it were anyone else, no one would have cared as much about her lying. She doesn’t really deserve to be called a bitch, because it’s totally undermining her character.

Plus! We all know that eventually the love square will finally be canon (after a stressful time probably), there’s too much build up for anyone to be a threat to their relationship. The love square is endgame and there’s no question about that.

Yes, Lila IS a liar, and while liars suck, Lila is literally only doing it because she wants to impress other people and make friends. She’s actually new to the school and probably to Paris, so more than likely she’s lying just because she feels like being cool is the only way to get people to like her. And a lot of irl people do that!! A lot of young teenagers, like her, especially - it’s a real flaw people have. To say you know a celebrity or have met a celebrity to impress other people is something super common. And not that it makes it okay, but probably every other character in the show has lied once or twice and it has been the center of conflict, particularly Marinette with Alya’s cellphone and Chat when he lied about being closer to Ladybug.  And she’s clearly going to return for future episodes, so that could provide opportunity for character growth!  She was so vile as Volpina because she was akumatized and not because it was her actual personality - as with everyone else who was akumatized.

Another thing to point out is how the other characters interacted with her - Adrien, the sweetheart, wasn’t all that bothered by her making up the lies, clearly he thought Ladybug was being too harsh and clearly he was ready to talk it out with her and Ladybug - perhaps he would have said something along the liens of “You don’t have to lie about your life to be my friend” and then a sort of  breakthrough would have happened. It also, in turn, shows how much Adrien cares about Ladybug’s wellbeing. He clearly could see something was wrong with her and didn’t like that side of her because he knew she could be better. Humiliating Lila was the equivalent of seeing your fave do something problematic, so of course he had a reason to be like “hey, chill Ladybug”

Lila not accepting Ladybug’s apology isn’t that big of deal for me - in fact, I’m glad she’s going to be angry still because that means we’ll see more of her, and that means development! And while I’m glad Ladybug apologized, Lila didn’t really have to accept the apology because hey, what Ladybug did actually hurt her despite her being a liar for attention. She embarrassed her in front of her crush. In any case, her reasons for lying are to get peer approval,  more than likely because something happened in the past that probably made her think she had to make up who she was in order for her to make friends - and primarily, to impress Adrien. For Ladybug to dismantle that in such an embarrassing way in front of her crush…holding a grudge against her isn’t too far fetched.

And finally, she, unlike Chloe, isn’t mean to people for no good reason. She doesn’t bully people for her entertainment, doesn’t think she’s perfect or anything like that because she clearly believes that in order for people to accept and like her and while lying about herself in order to get people to like her isn’t the best thing to do, she may actually be a nice person in spite of that.

So perhaps we’ll get to see the nicer side of Lila. Perhaps, after her lies backfire, we’ll get to see Lila struggle with being more honest with herself and with others. Maybe Marinette will sympathize and try to console and help Lila, help her repair her reputation and vice versa. Perhaps Lila and Marinette will grow closer and she’ll actually befriend her. Maybe she’ll finally become worthy of the miraculous after she learns her lesson. (Or maybe she won’t, and she’ll actually be a villain, haha, but I think a redemption arc for her is highly possible because of her insecurities, versus Chloe, who has no reason to be a terrible person as of yet and has a long ways to go…)

Anyways, I wrote all this because I see all the Miraculous fans slapping the word “bitch” onto Lila without actually examining the character and her motivations.

That Time She Got A Tattoo - Jungkook

Characters: Jungkook X Reader
Rated: J for Just a small drabble

“Does it hurt?”

She wants to snap at him and say something in the lines of ’How the fuck do you think it feels, you bloody tosser?’ But she doesn’t, instead, she gives him a half-hearted smile, murmuring something reassuring, telling that it’s okay, and it’s definitely not as bad as it looks. But actually, it is. The needle is cutting through her flesh, and she swears she can almost feel the blood dripping off her ribs. The mechanic sound of the tattoo machine resounds in her ears like the death sentence to her life, and she wince once more when the sharp instrument tickles a painful spot.

She really hopes for Jungkook’s own sake that he wouldn’t question why she was gritting her teeth, when she said this, though. She only had that much self-restraint after all, and Jungkook apparently realized this, and knew his own good, because he didn’t question anything about her previous answer. And she thinks she must be out of her own mind, doing this voluntarily. And paying for it, even. And Jungkook is shooting her this small smile that he wants comforting, but all she can think about is how much she wants to rip off his head right now, because, how the fuck can he imagine how much pain she’s feeling right now? She’s even sure that no matter how much this act would hurt, it would be nothing comparable to her own pain at the moment.

It’s all Jungkook’s fault anyway, why did he let her do this? ‘The bastard‘, her head kept muttering, but actually, there was this other side of her mind that was very grateful at the younger man at the same time, because she had come to realize just how much she enjoyed having her hair played with Jungkook’s long fingers, something that was distracting just a tiny bit from the horrible pain on her ribs. “Fu-cking, shit-eater!” And the pain was back there again, when the needle found that spot, just under her breast, and she swore she could feel her flesh tearing apart.

She wanted to punch that fucking tattooist, seriously, she was considering the thing deeply into her mind. Because, the guy was litteraly opening her flesh, drawing with the lines of her blood, and seriously, she couldn’t remember anything that hurt half as this. The position she was in wasn’t comfortable a bit, her back hurt and she wasn’t sure she still could feel her left arm. “Just breath, okay, breath with me.” Jungkook suddenly said, taking her hand into his own, and he immediately felt her nails digging into his own flesh. He never liked to see her in pain, it was litteraly the thing he hated the most in the entire world (and that is something to say), and right now wasn’t any exception.

One, two, three, breath.

Again. One, two, three, breath.

“You know what…” Jungkook suddenly whispered huskily, approaching her ear so the artist couldn’t hear (not to say that he has something else to focus on anyway), the sound of his voice seemed to vibrate against her skull, just like the tattoo-pen’s tip seemed to vibrate against the bones in her ribcage, “I’m going to make it up to you later.”

She couldn’t stop the violent shiver from erupting all over her body, nor could she stop her skin from prickling with it. She tried to look as neutral as possible and firmly avoided the tattoer gaze as he glanced up at her with an annoyingly knowing smirk on his face (well, guess he heard). And damn it, Jungkook was smiling again. No grinning. A bloody joyfully victory-grin no less. Bastard, she thought, but would never consider saying it out loud, because she couldn’t risk causing Jungkook to back out of his promise. “Hey, you’re doing good, princess.” he says after another little while (she was half wondering how he could keep a straight face with her nails digging deep into his hand flesh), his eyes stealing a peek at the almost-finished tattoo drawn on her skin.

“Shut up.” She wants to take a peek too, but she closes her eyes instead, the pain starting to feel unbearable. It’s funny, somehow, because the pain is different on different spots. Sometimes, it hurts less, and sometimes it hurts ten times more. And she wonders, why the hell do people get tattoos? Because it’s pretty, it’s art inked straight into your body. Sometimes, it tells a story, other times it just a part of a memory. And Jungkook got himself fascinated, for the mere instant of a minute, looking at the needle cutting the flesh, amazed by the skilled-hand drawing lines and creating an exclusive piece of work.

And it’s done, as soon as it started (or maybe one or two hours later, actually), and the relief is big, huge, as she feels the pain walking away. “See? It wasn’t that bad.” she shots him a death glare, like yes it was freaking bad I just got myself a goddamn tattoo on my goddamn ribs, you asshole. But the small smile he offers her as a part of the reward is comforting, and she doesn’t want to snap at him anyway. Jungkook laughes, that cocky and devilish little smirk growing up on his features and, yes, okay, she does want to snap at him.

“When you’ll get your first tattoo, I’ll be here to laugh at your face.”

I got my #5 AND #6 tattoos yesterday, and it fucking hurt like a fucking bitch! So I wanted to write a small representation of what I felt. Though, Jungkook wasn’t there anywhere to support me… I went all alone, so no one to insult; yeah okay, I insulted the tattoo artist.

Ahem. And I chose Jungkook because, well, he’s the only one who clearly said he likes and wants tattoos so…

Let’s dig in…

Summary of the gag reel

(The names are a mess on this because I didn’t know if I she called her mother character name or by their actual name)

Okay to start the whole is set to some really jazzy music.

Then we’ve got Bob trying to mark a take in mount weather (probably when he’s crawling through the air ducts) and it goes very poorly and he says “oh God. This jobs hard.” And makes a face at the camera.

Then when got Eliza and Lindsay. “It’s too late. They’re already bleeding out” but Eliza said something wrong or that she didn’t like so she goes “MEH” and turns around to start over.

Next we have a Marie running into the blood room. You can see Harper and Monty hugging and Abby and Clarke hugging. Marie runs up to Bellamy and asks where Cage is. Marcus appears and starts laughing. Marie responds with “should I do that again?” and then everybody starts laughing.

Then on to Sterling scaling down the cliff. Then Thomas/Finn runs forward and yells “Sinclair, wait!” Then stops and is like “ugh Sinclair!” And everyone laughs giving him a hard time.

Onto the actual Sinclair who’s s taking his tongue out and getting dangerously close to the ‘electric fence’

Then a series of shots starting with Jasper/Devon dancing in the dormitory in mount weather. Then Finn/Thomas spinning around in circles. Eliza/Clarke smiling walking off camera. Marie/Octavia doing a little dance then saying “here we go!”. Then Lincoln/Ricky in the woods with Octavia/Marie dancing again/spinning around. Then back to Devon/Jasper in the dormitory in mount weather. He’s joined by Monty and Maya. Back to Lincoln in the woods, still dancing. Then he runs off screen. Next is Thomas/Finn and Lindsay/Raven in one of the Ark flashbacks. Lindsay goes in for a kiss buts starts laughing and apologizing and Thomas yells “cut!” Pretending to be angry.

Now we’ve got a Abby/Kane moment where she’s in the middle of a line and then says “cut it out!” And he’s like “what? What am I doing? I’m acting with you!” And she looks at the camera like she’s on the office.

Then Clarke is terrifying Maya in the elevator but Eliza forgot her line so it’s much less intimidating.

Back to the cliff! Where Murphy’s trying to keep Bellamy from falling but the rope unbuckles and Richard huffs and rolls his eyes.

Abby and Clarke having a serious conversation when Paige/Abby realizes she’s said the wrong line.

Time for the villains to get their moment. Dr. Tsing is waking down a hall in a dramatic walk away when her shoe came off. Whoops!

Wicken scene! They’re about to kiss and Lindsay laughs and Steve said “it’s not that bad” and she responds with “shut up” then they kiss.

Another Wicken scene! They’re marking the scene and being goofballs.

Apparently this is just a montage of Wicken scenes. Now they’re kissing and Lindsay swears because something’s wrong (not sure what) then they start kissing before realizing the cameras weren’t rolling so they’re just making out.

Eliza starts swearing. They bleeped it. Now Devon/Jasper’s turn to get bleeped. And Cage. And Raven. And Jasper again. Then Eliza. And Thomas. And Marie. Got a bunch of potty mouths in the cast.

Then Bob is with the radio and screams dramatically “Raven! Say something! Hello?”

Marie tells Jackson (jokingly) to get the fuck away from her because he’s not supposed to be that close to her in the scene. He blames it on her and they start laughing.

Eliza has a hard time saying 'withdrawal’ in an American accent.

Jasper/Devon eats lots of pie.

Bob/Bellamy tells Kane he and Octavia aren’t under his command. Octavia can’t draw her sword because it gets stuck.

Thomas stares at Eliza.

Ricky asks if he has something on his face. (He does. The white powder stuff he puts on before he goes into the reaper tunnels)

Kane tried to dramatically throw his jacket but it gets stuck.

Ricky/Lincoln makes a “that’s what she said” joke.

Sinclair’s talking to Raven but forgets his line and makes a sex joke instead. Lindsay loses it and begs for it to be on the blooper reel. (Mission accomplished!)

Dante’s talking to Jasper and forgets his line.

Devon is weird toward the camera.

Ricky/Lincoln is stabbing someone as a reaper. Then stops and sticks his tongue out.

Then a montage of laughing. Clarke, Kane, Abby, Clarke, Jasper, then Lincoln and they guy Clarke shot through Lincoln.

Then Bob makes a grand dramatic gesture to the camera and that’s it!

Hope those made some sense. And that it’ll tide you over till I can get the actual video up.

There is a clear difference between a love interest and a love story.

Here is my take on it.

A love interest is temporary. It may only last for part of a season of a television show.

A love story is a long-term relationship. It may even be canon as part of the larger narrative of the story and the characters.

A love interest can happen overnight or even instantly. It has no basis in reason other than being a pleasant distraction for the character or the audience.

A love story takes time to build as the characters develop and learn to take their journey together.

A love interest character falls in like and/or in bed and their actions are fleeting.

A love story character falls in love with their companion character and their actions are deliberate.

A love interest character fights with the chosen character.

A love story character fights for their chosen character.

A love interest advances the plot.

A love story advances the character’s development.

A love interest serves an immediate purpose.

A love story serves the larger story and narrative of the character(s).

A love interest requires little effort because they are created to be one-dimensional; or the relationship itself is one-dimensional.

A love story requires an abundance of effort and time because a character being built is three-dimensional. The romance itself is three-dimensional.

A love interest can be created as a recurring character in a story, but the brief romance they share with another main or supporting character isn’t supposed to be canon. It’s supposed to fill a void in the plot of the moment. They disappear once they have served their purpose.

A love story is something only a leading character can have because the leading character has been written so that they, as a character, matter to the audience.

The audience can “ship” either a love interest or a love story, but only the love story (supported by the creators) will survive.

A love interest never does. Either the relationship or the character dies. Sometimes they both perish.

A main character can have either a love interest or a love story.

A supporting or recurring character can only have a love interest.

On Vampire Diaries:

Elena had Stefan and Damon as love stories, and Liam as a love interest.

Caroline had Jesse as a love interest, but Matt, Tyler, and Stefan as love stories. (Klaus is a love story too, but his character was so epic, he was “shipped off” to another show - pardon the pun.)

Bonnie had, well, I suppose you could say Jamie was a love interest. They did kiss once in one Episode of Season 3, but then he vanished from the show.

Jeremy and Bonnie never fell in love on screen. Bonnie actually had to convince herself to date him. That’s not an actual love story, and given that Jeremy only said “I love you” to Bonnie once – right before she was about to vanish from existence – one can’t consider that a love story either.

The truth is, regardless of what Julie Plec says, she has never intended for Bonnie to be anything other than a supporting character to be used at her Executive Producer discretion. Someone needs to die – okay, it’s Bonnie. Someone needs a spell – okay, call Bonnie. Someone needs to be blamed for something – okay, it’s Bonnie.

Julie Plec made a point of commenting on Twitter that she thought Bonnie should have died at the end of Season 5 because she believed the character’s story had been told.

Well, I suppose if you want the only person of color to serve as the proverbial supernatural maid, cleaning up or fixing messes for everyone else. Or if you want someone to serve as the sacrificial lamb because you don’t give a damn about her character – then yeah, Plec HAS told that Bonnie story plenty of times.

Bonnie is not meant to stand out or fall in love. She is not meant to have a career or a family. She’s not meant to be happy. Julie Plec admitted that she didn’t see Bonnie’s character as being valuable until Season 6…you know, the season she didn’t want Bonnie to be in at all.

Now she wants Bonnie to feel both guilty and grateful for being alive. She ties her life to Elena’s AGAIN – her death being the only thing that can bring back Elena and Delena, even though Bonnie has already died for that girl and her band of boys too many times already.

Sure, Plec is going to throw a “love interest” at Bonnie this season to shut up people who consider her a racist for treating the only black character on the show with such overt disgust and disrespect when compared to her other female characters. The so-called romance for Bonnie will not be canon. It will not be a love story because Plec and Dries don’t give a damn about Bonnie.

You’ll note that Plec said Bonnie’s Season 7 love interest will come out of nowhere, but it will make sense. That is NOT a love story.

She also stated that they might explore Bonnie’s bi-sexual storyline down the road, if it makes sense for the character. This is basically admitting that whatever romance Bonnie has, like always, won’t last. It won’t develop on screen. It won’t matter because her character doesn’t matter to the executive producers.

I wonder if that is their way of telling young women of color that are fans of the show just how much characters that look like them are valued.

(Wow, that actually turned into a rant pretty quickly.)

Bonnie, out of all the people on this damn show, deserves a love story.

Who here agrees with me?

You know what I am mad about?

Is not that they cut just a simple hug scene, it was the whole meaningful moment that came before it. Do you all want to know how did the whole scene played out? Here it is:

Firstly, Cory and Topanga gave the bear to Riley so everytime she would think of them and she would feel safe and not alone. Riley even says later on how “Maybe when things from our childhood dissappear it means that it’s time to leave that childhood behind”

Just in this part we can see that the whole problem with Riley losing the bear was actually a huge lesson for her. But they decided to cut an important scene that not only had to do with her growth as a character, but also a big development in her relationship with Lucas.

Lucas apologizes for not being able to find the teddy bear and Riley says: “It’s okay. You know you’re sitting where I used to sit with my teddy bear?”. For what Lucas asked with “Is that okay?”. And Riley replied: “Yes. I think it’s okay when something that was important to me then, it’s replaced with something important to me now”. And then she goes and bear hugs him. And he makes an adorable squeaky noise.

So yeah, it wasn’t just a simple hug scene that was cute, it was a huge major development for both Riley and Rucas. The whole episode is supposed to be about the bear and what it represented, and what it meant now that she lost it. But for some unknown reason, they decided to cut this scene off. And I think that just for once, just this time, we have every right to be mad about it. Even just for a little while, then we can go back to our happy positive selves that have to deal with lots of crap everyday. At least I know I am going to do that.
