this is about to be so relevant

THANK YOU for saying exactly what so many won’t dare to say even though I know full well they think it. I couldn’t believe it when I saw who had been invited after all they had said and encouraged others to say only a few weeks ago. It actually made me cringe, all they have done is reward disgusting behaviour!

most of the people who went deserved it and i’m happy for them. i have so many mutuals who went and they had the best time. but then there are some people… that said so much shit about taylor. and i admit that when the era started i wasn’t sure about where it was going and i posted about it too but i wasn’t as blatant as they were and i made sure to express that that’s how i FEEL and that i’m not stating facts.  i’ve never said that taylor does the bare minimum for fans or that she doesn’t care about us, all i said is that she felt distant and that’s valid (and not relevant anymore since she’s clearly very close to us). anyway i think we should just let that go, there’s nothing we can do to change what happened

I searched asexual on twitter and the first thing that came up was an aphobic post with 2k likes and i went on most recent and started seeing so many aphobes is like, no online space safe? I HATE that its regs cause i expect it from cis straight people but damn doeskt strike agony into my heart if the person is lgbtqia as well. I just feel so sad and unsafe and i struggle with suicidal thoughts about it and idk what to do. Like, why do aphobic posts get more likes if theyre the 'minority'?

The short answer is websites don’t design things to show the most popular posts. It’s a complicated system made out of flawed code that doesn’t allow for differences in support or bullshit.

I decided to try it on my twitter to see what would happen and its actually relevant ace stuff (but my top post was 48 RTS) which I’ve seen far more popular ace posts so again programming to controlling what you see. Likely also depends who you follows, since I’ve talked about ace stuff and follow lots of ace twitters it’s doing a better job at the content I want.

Also, hate spreads like a wild fire because hateful people gather close and pass that shit along in their inner circles. Meanwhile aces are just casually twitting about their day for the most part.

Last reason is there’s never been a huge ace presence on twitter so things often don’t not signal boosting as well as they should making the existing background bigotry seem louder.

I’m sure there are other specific reasons on why a certain bullshit post did well, but without seeing it in general it comes down to the platform of the person posting. That makes a HUGE difference is something is liked a lot or not.

I was listening to We've Had Enough by Michael Jackson, and I got chills because the lyrics are too relevant, with police brutality against black people and all, specially the lyrics "You saw he didn't run and that my daddy had no gun". Like I literally got goosebumps. He's got so many songs about this stuff that people overlook. Anyway sorry, this has little to do with the blog's theme i just don't have anyone to talk with about this stuff. lol bye

No worries this is very relevant!

ok so this might be a stupid question, or one that's waaaay out of date, but...i just found out about the movie noroi, and i was wondering if you think there's any connection between the movie and the noroi in tokyo ghoul? i mean, if we assume noro is the old one eyed king (or at least, whats left of him) maybe the stuff about the ritual and the fetuses is somewhat relevant, especially given recent occurrences?

ok, as a followup to my previous question, some more speculation on the topic: if noro is the original one eyed king (his regenerative power suggests it is possible), it may be possible that when he went dragon, he “gave” the gift of his regenerative kagune to the washuu (or at least, they were the ones who somehow got it). that would explain rize’s kagune also being very regenerative, and why kaneki, with that rc type, could also go dragon

Oh, I was actually talking about Noroi a while back with some friends! The movie actually deals with a LOT of tropes from Japanese legends, folklore, etc, so it would probably be pretty easy to draw some lines between it and Tokyo Ghoul. Plus, Noroi just translates to “curse”, which I’m sure will become relevant to the story soon (especially now that we’re dipping our toes into all the crazy aging and OEK stuff).

Noroi is basically a Blair Witch-style documentary following a number of characters who’s lives (and deaths) overlap after coming into contact with paranormal forces; namely a demon called Kagutaba.

The movie is great, but ridiculously long and complex, so I can’t really delve into it too deeply without totally losing everyone (lol). But in the end it turns out that one of the characters– the “son” of a woman named Ishii, who stole the fetuses of illegal abortions she aided with– was indeed actually Kagutaba, and he was the one controlling his “mother” all along.

There’s a TON of interpretations you can draw to Tokyo Goul here in regards to Noro. We don’t know much about him, but it’s common belief that he was already long dead by the time we met him, and that he was probably not much more than a kagune-driven husk himself.

There’s also an old theory that’s been floating around about cordyceps (a strain of fungus that “possesses” its insect host) and how a kakuhou may function in a somewhat similar manner. Little Shiro originally mentioned it to Haise after struggling to maintain ownership over his own body, but it still suits the story carry on with that concept when TG uses so much insect iconography.

So, if you connect the dots here, it seems like Noro may have been “possessed” and kept moving by a kakuhou implanted into him by Eto (his “child”, like Ishii in Noroi).

And now the bodies pouring out of Kaneki’s kakuja might be subjected to a similar situation, hence the face that looks exactly like Kagutaba’s mask and why Furuta was talking about Dragon’s capabilities to create life.

Ps- I’ve been yelling about how Noro may have once been a OEK, and how the original OEK was probably a Washuu for a long, looong time now. These little husks could be a link between Kaneki and Noro.

But anyway, we’re just going to have to wait and see how it plays out :)

Heard you wanted to talk about Infinite/Gadget. Do you think Infinite likes to warp his tail around Gadget whenever he can? Like he can see someone getting too buddy-buddy with Gadget so he'll just go up to them, warps his tail around Gadget and pull him close as to say "This is MY wolf. Get your own :)" (btw I'm excited for your fanfic of these guys! You make them so adorable!)

AAAAA you heard correctly, i do!! thank you so much for sending the ask in, does this answer your question?

ive had this wip for like weeks now and its not the best drawing ever buuuut seeing this ask motivated me to finally finish it lmao. infinite wrapping his tail around gadget is one of my favourite things ever t b h !!

would love to know more about your notebooks. do you have a system?

Not really, no! I use three notebooks simultaneously, and take notes from books on my laptop.

The first book is actually a Moleskine diary, with the week set out on one side, and lined paper on the other - I use this for planning, and writing out to-do lists.

The second book is a miscellaneous notebook - for when I go to lectures or seminars not quite relevant to what my PhD is about but I still want to take notes. It’s a ring bound notebook with isometric paper, from Muji,

The third is the one where I write down thoughts about whatever I’m working on in relation to my PhD. It’s the one I’m using today as I start to think about the piece of writing due for my supervisor next week. I’m trying to work out how to categorise the texts I’ve read, so that I can write about them coherently, in a synthesised way. I’ve taken notes from each book on Evernote, and am in the process of writing at the top of each note what the article or book was about, and how it went about looking at my topic, and whether there were any gaps that I might like to pursue throughout the length of my project. Alongside this, I’m handwriting notes - any stray thoughts which might help me see where my PhD is going.

I’m currently filling out a mindmap compiled from the subjects and methods of the books I’ve spent the past two weeks reading - I am beginning to see that I’ve read a lot about C18th lawyers and drama, so am wondering about the intersections there…

Sometimes I use the notebook for freewriting exercises: writing non-stop for a designated amount of time, and then seeing if any ideas are worth sticking with or rephrasing. It’s helpful for when you get a bit stuck and just need to get ideas down - nothing more intimidating than a blank page!

Pictured: the third notebook - a lined Muji notebook, A5.

You've talked before about dominance in dogs relating to dogs and resources. A lot of webpages still use buzzwords like "be a strong (pack) leader" when training 'tougher' breeds. I was wondering if there was any merit to that (as having strong leadership seems important in dog training, in my layperson's opinion) or if it was still rooted in a dated understanding of dog behavior.

Yes, it still has its place and relevance. It’s just poorly understood. The definition of dominance when applied to animal behavior is a relationship between two individuals that dictates access to desired resources. So in most cases we are already at an advantage since we supply food, we open doors, etc. So simple impulse control exercises and stuff of that nature sets us up for success.

But every now and then I do meet dogs that take it farther and do require a more forward/assertive personality type or else they will walk all over the owner. Thankfully they are not as common in general but I do tend to see it more in certain breeds like Huskies, Rottweilers, Akitas, etc. And it’s not about being a bully like some people think, it’s more of how you carry yourself and how you react to/handle situations.

It can be relevant in certain cases of reactivity as well where some dogs do not feel confident in their owners ability to handle the situation and feel a need to lash out in order to control/prevent the situation they believe may occur.

RFI Video

First of all, I am SO excited for this new video. It already looks so bomb dot com. Like, everything she does is stellar but I’m loving the whole alien vibe, it’s super kick ass.

Secondly, I’ve seen SO much negativity from people about her nudity. “She said she didn’t feel the need to take her clothes off.” When has she ever? Has anyone ever seen her without her clothes on? Like, with her consent? No. Kanye decided he would take it upon himself to continue to disrespect her and do it in his Famous video, like the enormous asshat that he is. She’s not doing it to stay relevant. She’s not doing it for shock. She’s doing it for her. I think she wants to take back her own body and identity, in a strong and powerful way. This is her reclaiming what was taken from her and mocked. And I absolutely love it.

People need to quit making her out to be some nasty woman, like, why is it necessary? I honestly don’t know what she’s ever done to make people feel so strongly against her. It’s never made any sense to me. But trying to slut shame her or say rude things about her body or her decision to bare it all is even more stupid. How would you feel if someone made a depiction of you, nude, and disrespected you and tried to humiliate you? Wouldn’t you want to come back and tear that power out from under their feet and set the record straight about who you truly are?

Taylor is amazing. I love watching her own her success and not giving in to ANYONE’S bs.

You go girl. @taylorswift @taylornation @tayalongwithme

late to the party since I was asleep, but one more dumb argument about Touka's supposed irrelevance is always: 'I understand she's pregnant and weak BUT I wanted her to have a cool big fight1!' and I'm like: stop. Stop right there. The moment you say 'but...' you show that you understood absolutely nothing and the only worth a female character has is her fighting power. Must be nice for them that male faves can't get pregnant. tho Touka's pregnancy makes her more relevant than most males here

Mod K:

I hate that female characters are so easily devalued in fandoms. It is one of the things that drive me absolutely insane. People will bend over backwards to rationalize and explain the actions of their favorite male characters, but they become blind and dumb when given the opportunity to do the same thing for a female character.

It’s very frustrating. They are also quick to undermine their importance and shoehorn them into the love interest category, and therefore irrevalant.

I LOVED Touka’s role during this arc. She has always been a protector and fiercely loyal and that showed through marvelously.

I made the mistake of watching an episode of Bojack Horseman while i had breakfast this morning and now it’s been messing with my head all day.

It’s from season 4 so spoilers, but it was “Ruthie,” the one when Princess Carolyn has the miscarriage. I just feels all too stupidly relevant, especially given my hospital trip on Thursday, and I’m having all the emotions as I try to get back to the swing of things at work after being out for two days.

It’s not a bad thing. It’s unpleasant, but I feel like shows should talk about this kind of thing more. It makes me feel less terrible about what I’m going through/what I’ve been through with my stupid uncooperative body. I think I’m probably the only person who didn’t hate Samus’s stupid “The Baby” monologue at the beginning of Other M.

It’s really weird when you grow up trying to be a “strong woman” around “strong female characters” and there’s this visceral hatred in mainstream feminism when people make strong female characters want to be mothers. I feel way too much empathy for a fictional space bounty hunter and a pink cartoon cat today. There’s a gender neutral elephant blanket and stuffed tiger sitting in the back of my closet gathering dusk.

For the record, Thursday’s hospital trip wasn’t for a miscarriage. But it did reconfirm that if I ever do manage to get pregnant there’s an extremely high chance it will end in miscarriage again. Or even still birth next time. It terrifies me.

I feel dumb for typing all this but I guess I just had to get it off my chest in a way that wouldn’t affect my day to day life outside of tumblr. Sorry if it was TMI. Just having a lot of feelings and want them to stop distracting me so I can be productive.

And I swear to the goddess, if I see that fucking “Loss” meme that’s become the new Rick Roll one more time, I’m going to punch through a fucking wall.

I know everyone’s always talking about Bucky having a mass freak out when he finds out all the dumb shit Steve’s been doing while he was gone but at the same time I feel like the next time Steve jumps out of a plane with no parachute every single other avenger is gonna freak out while Bucky’s just standing there like

Sit down lads and listen to my tired fueled rant on why Steven Yeun is a pure man and loves Keith!

So, its been bugging me for a while (especially with the new season just being released) about the fact that almost all the voice actors promote the show and how much slack my boi Steven gets! We all know how much Jeremy Shada, Bex T-K, Josh Keaton, Hell, even AJ whos new to the team go full out and are full of thoughts and words to say about Voltron and their charterers, SO, I am here today, ignoring every piece of homework i have due four weeks ago to tell y’all why none of the slack he gets is deserved!

Way back when in may of this year, a local (ish) convention guested Steven Yeun as a guest, and even though I may be a Lance stan before a human being, I cried cuz I loved this boi since the walking dead.

I had saved all my $$ just to get this boi’s autograph (on top of picking one up for my friends sister) and waited in his line for almost 2 hours just so i could be first.  And as I sat in line, i noticed that the growing amount of walking dead fans where starting to get extremely high (i don’t think a single person in that line even KNEW what Voltron even was!).

So, b/c i am smart and don’t want to make a rash choice, i sneak a pick at the photos he has lined up before hand to see if they had any rad Voltron for him to sign. and OF COURSE there is no Voltron or Keith anywhere on that table.  But Worry not fellow nerds!  I did the smart thing and printed off a picture of Keith at home!  But my printer is shitty and the quality wasn’t the best

So after almost two hours and him being 20 minutes late ( i could never hate, my boi was on his lunch break) the line starts movin.  So here i am, about to meet Steven FREAKING Yeun, dressed as Kim Possible (not relevant but anyways) and I have practiced over and over what im gonna say to this man.

“Talk about the Walking Dead, you can do it, tell him you love the walking dead”

So i get up and pay for my autograph, and they let me have two photos and his manager, when he gets to me, tells him that he can only sign one.

NOw, before I got on, my boi looked tired.  Like HELLA TIRED.  idk what he be doing, but he was doing his best to fake a smile and get through another line.

And when i get up in front of him, I FROZE!  like, BItcH, What you DOIN?!?!?  anyways, i shake his hand and all i manage to say is

“I loved you in Voltron!”

And the look on his face gave me ten years of my life back!  This boi (whose entire autograph photo selection is just walking dead and head shots) hears Voltron, and i saw a smile that was genuine rush over him.  And the MOMENT i notice this, I just go back to talking about Voltron with him

Anyways, he signs my friends photo (which was hella aesthetic) and he looks over at my two and i explain to him the deal

“So, heres the thing: i only have enough money for one autograph and you are my favorite character in the walking dead (bitch was already dead at this point too) but I got really sad when there was no Keith photos. SO i printed this out at home and I want you to decide.”

he looks at the two photos and tells me

“heres what we’re gonna do.”

and he reaches for the Keith picture and he starts to sign it.  I’m already close to tears at this point, and he is just signing away.  And then he glances over at his manager and quickly signs the other one, pushing both towards me before she had time to react and pull the other one away.

ANd at this point i am IN TEARS.  Crying in the con, god bless this random lady who gave me a tissue or my makeup would have been a mess.

My friend and I sit down and we look at the pictures and he FUCKING SIGNED THE KEITH PHOTO FROM KEITH!!!!  I might be a Lance stan, but jesus fuck do I love Steven Yeun and everything he is!!

And this boi loves Keith! all the stories I heard from others who met him said that when they mentioned Voltron he would become ten times more happy.  Steven is a gift and I want nothing but happiness for that man.

Oh, and also…

Stevn Yeun loves Keith, he cares for Voltron, and I will NOT tolerate hate towards him any longer!

I rest my case

There are definitely many things worth criticizing in Steven Universe, but it’s weird because one of the biggest criticisms I see is something I personally love about the show?

It’s a lot of criticisms that basically boil down to “pacing”.

Like “They keep setting up this big mysteries and then not paying off on them!” or “A big thing happens and then we get right back into filler episodes!” and like

Yeah? Exactly. IDK what to tell you.

Rebecca Sugar is like reverse Steven Moffat, I almost feel like. She sets things up without you even knowing anything is being set up, so it doesn’t build tension, but then when you get the payoff it’s satisfying and obvious. Or, alternatively, she introduces a big plot element, and it’s like “Are we ever going to address this?” and then, eventually, when it naturally comes up, we finally do.

We saw Connie’s glow bracelet in episode 1, and didn’t even know it was foreshadowing until we me Connie 8 episodes later. We didn’t learn Garnet was a fusion until 50 episodes in.

We met Lion in episode 10, and there were SO MANY QUESTIONS. What is he? Where do his powers come from? What is his connection to Rose? And we never directly got answers to those questions - instead they were indirectly answered in a “filler” episode about a historical Beach City in episode 106 that really only raised more questions than it answered, followed by the most recent episode, 132, which was about Lars and Homeworld and also, you know, incidentally answered the entire Lion mystery.

Over three years after it was introduced we finally learned what Lion’s deal is, and it wasn’t even in a Lion-centric story. But you know what? It was still satisfying. At least, I thought so.

I don’t get the feeling that that explanation was made up. Watching it, I get the feeling Rebecca Sugar knew three years ago what was up with Lion. She just wasn’t going to incorporate it until it became immediately relevant.

It’s slow, honest, sprawling worldbuilding that I can really fucking get behind. The writers know what this world is and who these characters are, they just aren’t going to force exposition or explanations where they wouldn’t naturally occur if they can avoid it.

IDK, the whole “we just introduced this big new thing, but now the characters are just dinking around? Living their lives? Why???” thing is, to me, at least a solid half of the draw. I like the show is approachable, that the tension is present but not overbearing.

It feels like life. Big, life-changing, worldview shifting things happen. And at the same time that it changes everything, it doesn’t actually change very much at all.

A good friend dies suddenly, you still have to make yourself lunch. Your parents are getting a divorce, you still hang out with your friends and maybe even act like everything is normal. And maybe even forget while you’re hanging out with your friends what is going on at home. You get arrested, get out on bail, know you have a huge case coming up that could determine your whole future, you still play video games for a couple hours the next night, you still go to work the next day. You’re working with your lawyers and everyone to put together your case, of course, but normal life doesn’t stop. It rarely ever does.

IDK, I see these criticisms like “They introduces Bismuth and then just benched her!” or “They introduced the cluster and then it didn’t actually do anything” and it’s like, yet. I have no reason not to trust that those things won’t be coming back around. Everything else in this show has, in time, come back around so far. From seemingly insignificant side characters, to weird locations, to random trivia.

There’s an old saying, “things change slowly, until they change all at once”, and it has, in my life, generally proven to be true. And it seems to be the Steven Universe approach to story pacing. And I, personally, really really like it. And it’s cool if you don’t. But I don’t think I’d like the show as much if it weren’t so chill. It’s a show that drips along in tiny, soothing, sentimental increments.

It’s fine if that’s an aspect of the show you don’t like. I have preferences and there are things I don’t like even though they’re arguably good. But I keep seeing people propose it as an aspect of the show that is bad writing. And, I just can’t wrap my head around that? It’s perfectly fine writing. It’s even, often, great writing. I prefer a slow and quiet accruement to a plot-heavy infodump any fucking day. Not that there isn’t often call for the latter, depending on the story you want to tell and how you want to tell it. But I prefer the former.

So far I haven’t been given any indication there isn’t a planned followthrough for all the many, many threads Steven Universe has laid. They’ve successfully followed through enough times before, often on things we weren’t even aware we should be looking out for, that I imagine they’ll keep doing so. The only reason I ever see the show failing to do so, and having a rushed and unsatisfying end, is time. If they get prematurely cancelled, or prematurely decide to end things out of personal desire to work other projects, then yeah, SU could end badly. Lots of stuff could end up unexplained or given a quick unsatisfying end. But there’s no evidence of that yet, so right now I’m going to take the pacing choices as just that. Choices. Good ones, that I like. Even if they aren’t to everyone’s taste.
