this is about as politically active as i get

PLEASE INCLUDE DISABLED PEOPLE IN YOUR ACTIVISM.

(note: I’m not gonna talk about Trump mocking Serge Kovaleski primarily b/c Kovaleski does not ID as disabled and does not want to be used as a political talking point. Which is fair.  yes, it was awful. no, you don’t get brownie points for agreeing with me that it was awful. Disabled people have evolved to have thick skin, and a politician mocking us is not new or unsurprising. this list will deal with policy and specific issues facing the broader disability, autistic, d/Deaf//HoH, and neurodivergent communities.)

(other note: I generally use adjective-first language but I probably also used person-first language in here somewhere. I personally prefer to use the former for myself but I respect that other people in this community use different language.)

-the federal site for IDEA has been taken down

-all mentions of disability rights have been deleted from the website

-betsy devos had no idea what the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act was when asked and stated that standards for accommodations in education should be left up to the state (this is a TERRIBLE idea)

-if Obamacare is repealed, we have the most to lose. Most of us will not be able to afford medical expertise or treatment to maintain a basic quality of life. Some of us will die.

-he called one of his books Crippled America. Unironically. Ugh.

-the january 2017 unemployment rate for nondisabled civilians was 4.9. For disabled civilians, it was 11.0. These numbers do not reflect the number of disabled individuals who work inadequate part time jobs, who are institutionalized, or have given up looking for work.

-the US still has not signed the UN documents about the rights of People with Disabilities.

-Justices like Justice Kennedy have historically been swing votes on cases involving disabilities. Justices like Scalia have not. Potential Supreme Court Justice Gorsuch has a very ugly disability rights record, which includes defending a college that fired a professor undergoing chemo when she requested to give her lectures over skype (there was a flu going around on campus and being there would put the staff member in danger due to her suppressed immune system)

-By the time he was elected, Donald Trump had already dealt with at least eight lawsuits concerning lack of basic accessibility (ramps, braille) on his properties

-the Supreme Court case legalizing the sterilization of potentially disabled people without their consent (Buck v. Bell) has never been overturned and has been cited as a legal precedence in a lower court as recently as 2001.

-the Judge Rotenburg Center is still using painful electric shocks on disabled students as punishment, despite the FDA advising them to stop more than two years ago.

-similarly, many disabled people are not  paid federal minimum wage b/c section 14c of the “Fair Labor Standards Act” is still on the books and so hundreds of thousands of disabled peoples’ wages are “proportional” to their productivity (compared to an abled worker). Goodwill is one of the most famous companies that exploits this loophole.

-the already gutted SSDI program is even more at risk-Trump has spoken about emulating the British reforms for their disability program. Off the top of my head, I can think of nine or ten different people who died as a result of the recent “fit to work” assessments and bedroom requirements in the UK.

-disabled people depend on the Department of Justice’s civil rights division to enforce the ADA and protect us from blatant discrimination. Trump has already proven that he does not care about the funding or effectiveness of the department, and is willing to destabilize it to forward his political goals.

-Donald Trump is anti-vax and is complacent to that movement’s violent and intolerable rhetoric surrounding autistic and other neurodivergent individuals

-Sessions called disabled children protected by federal laws (like IDEA) “the single most irritating problem for teachers throughout America today”. In this same statement, he stated that he did not “remember hearing of gun shootings prior to 1975 when Congress began telling ten percent of our students [they] are not responsible” (the IDEA was passed in 1975, improving the way disabled children were treated at public schools)

-the new administration’s refusal to address fatal police brutality is also an issue of disability rights, given that around half of victims shot by police officers are disabled or neurodivergent. (like eric garner, who had asthma)

In case this list didn’t clue you in: the disabled community is scared. We don’t know what to expect from the next four years, we still haven’t come close to equality, and we are usually left to fight our battles alone. That’s why I’m asking whoever reads this to stand with the disability community against ableism and against policies that will kill us. People have done a great job in the past few weeks of expressing solidarity with muslims, immigrants, refugees, latinx people, LGBT people, and black people. And, honestly, that’s great. Thank you and please keep doing it. But also be aware that disabled people are one of the most vulnerable demographics right now, and be aware that we’re also one of the most ignored. We are made invisible by the media and by society too easily. Please, you have to see us and you have to stand with us.

Looking back on history, it’s impossible not to notice that people with disabilities don’t fare well in authoritarian regimes. Please help us make this time different.

Trump has inspired millennials to increase their political engagement. Bigly.

  • Liz Kersjes had always followed politics — but until Donald Trump upset Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election, that was about the extent of her political engagement.
  • “I knew enough to get angry about things but not angry enough to truly get off my couch and do something,” Kersjes said in an interview.Trump’s victory, though, was a “disgusting wake-up call” for Kersjes, and the 30-year-old Chicago marketer decided to take action.
  • In November, she formed the Chicago Action Alliance — a political group that has grown to include more than 500 members in just a handful of months — and become more politically active since the election in November.
  • She’s not alone.According to a Dictionary.com study released Tuesday — which Mic received ahead of its publication — Americans have been increasingly political since the 2016 election.
  • They appear to be more informed and more critical observers of current affairs, and like Kersjes, they’ve been spurred into action. Read more. (4/18/2017 8:25 AM)

We have corporate welfare but we can’t have it for the people? People with power get to have all the breaks but everybody else at the bottom are moochers, they’re lazy, don’t want to work, and are just asking for handouts? Really? That’s the spin on this? I can’t stand for that. I have to say something against it. This is about being on the right side of history and looking out for each other. This is about being good human beings.

I’m hungover enough to out and say it without really giving a fuck: Eleanor’s not even pretty, she’s just a skinny girl with long hair.

Add to that she’s willingly involved herself in this shitshow for a second time, all of the horrible things she’s said about Harry during the first go round and about Louis after their ‘break up’ and the fact that Louis always looks fucking miserable and dead in the eyes around her, she can go CHOKE.

I’m actively vengeful enough to say that I hope all of her “social media influencer” agreements get cancelled, her pointless blog gets deleted and in order to support herself, she has to spend the rest of her life working as a change room attendant for the Primark on Oxford Street, having to be polite to hoardes of customers and hanging up other people’s discarded fast-fashion and 5 or 6 times a day having to deal with teenagers asking her if she’s that bitch who deliberately tried to use Louis Tomlinson’s closet to make money.

Fuck off plain Jane, no one wants you here.

Here is how I imagine Aku would have to deal with his daughters if he had raised them.

Like, he took advantage of the cult actually worshiping to obtain an heir (seven heirs much to his delight), and chose the high Priestess to have the honor of bearing his children. And being a fanatical, she accepted willingly. So he gave her his essence to conceive (finding human reproduction very disgusting). However, though she gives birth to seven healthy girls, she couldn’t bear the birth and dies, but the cult saw this as the honor of sacrificing herself to continue their god and master’s legacy.

Aku took the seven girls in, and contrary to what people would believe, he did love his daughters. However, due to being half-demons they were quite handful, and even started developing their powers at an early age, as you can see here. It was hard, but he managed to split his time between being a tyrant and a father, and he started enjoying the latter activity so much he started sending a clone of himself to tend to ‘political affairs’ while he stayed behind with his girls.

And after spending hours without sleep, it starts to get to him.

“I HAVE TO PUT SEVEN BABIES TO SLEEP AND YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT YOUR CITY HAVING BEEN ATTACKED?!”

anonymous asked:

Ok so where "do I find the ENXP crowd"? Preferred habitat? Likes? Mating rituals? What to do if I spot one? Do they bite?

Haha, okay, I’m glad you asked because I’ve been procrastinating on making a post like this for awhile and now I gotta. So here goes. Also guys, I’m dividing this male/female so I’m sorry if it doesn’t apply to you, but I don’t have time for any more descriptions (this is gonna be long)

As written by a female ENTP who knows many ENXPs…

How to find ENTPs

Male

  • Male ENTPs look like the rest of the typical dudes around at first glance. But on closer inspection, they probably have a haircut that is supposed to be trendy but isn’t well-maintained and they also probably have crazy socks, or a crazy scarf, or are making some sort of stupid joke as you observe them
  • They joke all the time. Like there is not a time when you’re talking to them and they’re not thinking or talking about jokes. Could be memes, funny animals, slogans or advertisements…really just anything humorous. And they spew it.
  • They’re the annoying ones in the room. ENTPs are called “class clowns” but honestly I don’t find that to be a super accurate description of us since we’re pretty darn ambiverted. So it’ll be the guy in your class or office that’s really annoying yet funny and has outrageous philosophical or political views. Or has a crazy backstory/family life. Something crazy, I promise
  • Can be pretty shy or socially awkward, many ENTPs have Asperger’s
  • They are very silly and tacky. They wear comical shirts, have smirky expressions all the time, and are actual super softies. Like we’re talking hopeless romantic softie if they’re not super unhealthy. The stereotype is that ENTPs are “bouncy” with relationships and go from partner to partner, but that is largely untrue for both sexes. We may have a lot of partners, but we typically go into the relationship at least trying to make it work long term. It’s only that we break up with people a lot based on the fact that we feel like there’s a lot of stagnancy/we get bored/think that our partner is incompatible with us since we’re “hiding” our true selves, etc.
  • Really bad at using social media
    • Most guys only have a few pictures on their pages, if they have a social media page at all (this is personal experience, not true for all of them, just seems to be a trend)
  • Wide variety of skills/ineterests/hobbies
    • ENTP friend loves skiing, lifting, exercising…and then is unhealthily obsessed with pug puppies and memes
  • Are usually friends with the STP crowd or the NF crowd, either or
    • Does usually have another NTP friend that’s pretty close to them

honestly when I was isolated and closeted and straight people would talk so negatively about gay people who “made it their whole personality” or whatever, it’d make me so anxious and sad. It was always presented like there were

The Good Gays, who were Just Like Everyone Else, and liked straight things, looked Just Like Everyone Else, and didn’t talk about being gay, and definitely didn’t ‘shove it in anyone’s face’ or let it ‘define them.’

and then there were

The Bad Gays, who, from what I could tell, were flamboyant gay men and butch lesbians (f*gs and d*kes), proudly out gay people, gay people who liked rainbows and gay culture, politically active gay people, gay people who talked about being gay all the time, gay people with lisps, gay people who are angry, gay people who don’t “pass” as straight, gay people who love being gay and being around other gay people

And I spent so much time early on internally scolding myself. I thought it was wrong to think & talk about being gay 24/7 and enjoy gay culture and feel safest in LGBT spaces. I would always feel guilty and embarrassed every time I brought up anything gay. I thought maybe after a while I’d ‘get it out of my system’ or something and not feel the need for it to ‘define me’ anymore, but it never went away, that intense connection and joy from LGBT spaces and culture.

But now, look: I have this blog where I can just share every gay thought I have with y’all day after day and no one’s annoyed with me for it. In fact, it’s something that’s appreciated! And I can follow a hundred other blogs by folks doing the same.

I am The Bad Gay and I love Bad Gays. I’m so relieved to have found you all.

“Reproductive health care should be a right for everyone — regardless of their income, their zip code, gender, you name it. I have such admiration for health center staff and doctors all across the country who go to work every day. Many of them walk through protesters just to get into work and provide care for patients. That’s what keeps me centered.”

100 Reasons to Study:

I never expected this “reasons to study” thing to get so many submissions, and as it takes me so long to post them all, I decided to do a bulk post of some so here they are:

(If I haven’t included a url, it was submitted by an anon).

  1. To prove people that “bad” students can become excellent students too.
  2. To expand your knowledge of the world.
  3. To look back on your success in ten years time. (Submitted byadxlastudies)
  4. To not let my mental illness define my grades. (Submitted bymusicandmaths)
  5. I study because I am privileged enough to have the opportunity. I study because I have no one getting in my way telling me I can’t. I study because I want to do some real good in this world. I study because I live in a country where being female has no significant disadvantage; and so, I take this opportunity so that I may make future opportunities for those who don’t have them. (Submitted by crimson-voltaire)
  6. My reason for studying is how I’ll get to where I want to be in my life which is successful, comfortable, and happy.
  7. I study to make my mum happy and proud.
  8. I study to prove my anxiety wrong!
  9. I study because I want to save lives.
  10. I study because my grandpa, orphaned during WWII when he was 8, worked 4 days a week in a mine to learn for 2 days. He’s retired after 40 years of working in diplomacy, for the last 5 years as an ambassador. He’s my role model. And I love him so much.
  11. I study because my primary school teacher from when I was 6 replied “Well who would think that?” when my mother informed her I was going to university. I study so I can tell her “Why would you not think that?”

  17. I study because diseases have haunted my family for long enough, and cancer deserves to be taken down once for all.
  18. I study because my father left school at age 13 to work to provide for his family and he has been working ridiculously hard ever since so I can have an education.
  19. I study to be self reliant and to get more answers. The concept of being independent is attractive to me, and if i study hard enough, i will be able to live freely without relying on my parents. The thought of getting answers is a huge satisfaction.

Not sure why people get so miffed about ships. Is the ship somehow personally victimizing you? I will admit that I certainly thought that way when I was TWELVE YEARS OLD, but I know a lot of people who watch Voltron and actively ship characters together are older than twelve. Let people have their fun. Don’t be that person who brings other people down. Don’t go out of your way to upset people and bash their ship. You are more than allowed to politely disagree with a ship, just don’t be nasty about it. Especially since the creators of Voltron don’t want you to be that way. ✌🏻

The (Philippines) government is tracking our social media especially when we mention anything remotely related to the president. So if you’re a social activist please be careful. I know that a lot of people get locked up as political prisoners (some abducted or worse) but these people are those who are truly vocal about their political views. I also know a friend who isn’t a journalist and the most politically active she is is on social media AND YET she got threatened at gunpoint for it. That’s how fucked up our privacy and our government is. It’s getting worse every day and while speaking up is important and a right we must not be denied of, please be careful as well. There are people out there who don’t want us to speak by any means possible. Stay safe and stay strong.

but where anakin is selfish, obi-wan is painfully reaching, desperate to be disinterested. he subordinates himself to the jedi order, to anakin’s needs and then to luke’s, to the republic. it fucking kills him, so much of his conflict is him trying to be disinterested and failing, time and time again, to be disinterested—after all, he was the one who wept when qui-gon died, who couldn’t find it in himself to kill anakin on mustafar or on the death star. he’s trying, he’s trying so hard, to be the consummate jedi that everyone else needs him to be, but he’s not, he’s angry and conflicted and mouthy and impetuous and ultimately loves anakin and padme and luke and individual people more than he should.

but he wants so much to be good, to be obedient—can you imagine if one of he the sith had managed to turn him? if dooku (bc lbr sidious was never going to turn obi-wan) had made some coherent arguments in the midst of a firefight, if obi-wan had been a little more susceptible, if grevious had flirted a little more or anakin had broken away for padme openly, or someone had promised—

obi-wan, like his master’s master before him, would have fallen. and likely, he would have been more content that way. feeling his feelings, instead of viciously suppressing them, and praying that devotion would make up the difference there.

You recently finished an answer saying "I don’t consider Littlefinger to be on the same level as Varys because...", can you develop more about Varys? How smart he is and how the Westeros situation is under his control? Varys, in the last chapter of ADWD, shows that killing Kevan was a simply way to get in control in the westerosi situation again, since the political (un)governance was good for his planes.

The primary difference is motive. Littlefinger’s out for revenge, Varys is out to change the world. The Spider is an extreme utilitarian with a radical political agenda, determined to replace an exploitative elite class with his “perfect prince” and willing to do whatever it takes–whatever it takes–to get there. Ultimately, Littlefinger’s story is about very, very personal demons, even as he has a huge impact on politics; Varys is certainly driven in large part by his own past, but he’s got an ideology rather than just targets, and so he actively contributes to the political questions in the text more than almost any other character.

I think he’s going to temporarily succeed as the stars align for Team Aegon in the first half of TWOW: the Martells, the sparrows, and the Golden Company’s “friends in the Reach” (coughRandyllTarlycough) are natural allies, and as Varys notes to Kevan, the Lannister-Tyrell alliance is ready to crumble from within. But “enlightened absolute monarchy” doesn’t actually work, the immense collateral damage of the war undercuts Varys’ populist agenda, and Dany is coming for the “mummer’s dragon” with fire and blood. Varys’ project definitely appeals to me at some level, but I think GRRM’s making it clear that mutilating children to further your dream of a world in which no children are mutilated like you were is not a good model for revolutionary change.

'If a Reality TV Star Can Be President Why Can't Actors Talk Politics?'

“I just want to talk about the world and my experience and tell my story. I think you only start thinking of those stories as political if they haven’t necessarily been heard before. I’m just talking about my day-to-day reality, about what happens when I go to the airport and try to get on a plane and go to another country. To me it’s not political, it’s just personal.” - Riz Ahmed

So much of the media discussion of Trump’s Muslim ban, both in US and international media, centers around issues of terrorism: offering statistics about the infinitesimal number of refugees who are involved in terrorist activity, and decrying the ban as something that’s likely to increase the numbers of people joining ISIS and other terrorist organizations. And all of that is true, and it’s important to call out Trump’s false claims. But here’s the thing. I think most of the media is missing the actual point of the Muslim ban.

It’s not about terrorism. It never has been. By allowing the narrative to be framed that way, even in our critiques of Trump, we’re conceding a vital point. We’re buying in to the narrative that this is about terrorism, and that we’re simply debating the proper response to it. It paints a picture in which protestors and liberal media outlets are unhappy with Trump’s response to the issue.

But that’s not it at all.

The truth is we’ve seen this before. A ban on people entering the country, based on religion and / or ethnicity, is the first step. Next will come the Muslim registry. There will be a quiet purging of all Muslim employees from government jobs. Persons listed in the Muslim registry will be monitored by police “for the protection of the public.” Discrimination in hiring practices in private companies will become first legal, then actively encouraged. Muslims will be first encouraged, then coerced, and finally forced to move into segregated areas, or perhaps into protected camps or detainment facilities. People will start disappearing.

That’s what this is about. The ban is about taking that first step. Talking about terrorism only serves to lend legitimacy to Trump’s claims that this is the primary issue. But it’s not. The issue here is a white supremacist administration that actively wants to purge undesirables.

Hi I'm sorry if this sounds rude but you mentioned your friends are giving up fic writing? And that you came close to.I notice writers get much fewer rebblogs than artists but I didn't know it's that bad. Who are you talking about and do you guys talk about this, like is there a chatroom for writers?

Hi anon! This isn’t rude at all, don’t worry! This is going to be a bit of a long answer, so bear with me :’)

I don’t know if I can mention names here, I don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable, so I can’t really give you more details than I already have: I am friends with this person and they probably won’t be writing fanfics anymore.
I can tell you though that I’ve also spent most of the last couple of weeks wondering if there was still a point in posting my writing at all.

The thing is, writers barely get any feedback. Especially ones that aren’t insanely popular. We pour so much of ourselves into our writing, so it’s incredibly discouraging to barely get any comments, kudos, likes or reblogs.

In my personal experience, tumblr is an awful place for writers. I’ve got a decent-sized following on ao3 I think (though I don’t have much to compare to) and even there, with more than 100 people subscribed to me, I only tend to get around… 5 or 6 comments max per fic that are actually reviews (as in, comments with more content than “please update soon” or “this was nice”) - which is already more than I know many of my writer friends get.
On tumblr, I’m lucky if two or three people reblog my work, and that’s exactly the problem: Who’s going to see it if no one reblogs it? Likes are fine and of course I appreciate those, too, but in the bigger picture they’re meaningless.
Once a fic is done, it’s done. It’s out there then, and I can’t keep reblogging my own posts again and again in the hopes that someone will pay attention to them. I get one shot, maybe two if I reblog my fic again for people in other timezones, but that’s pretty much it. I’m not surprised that it’s gotten so frustrating that it makes people want to quit.

…as for your other question - I don’t know if there’s any larger chatroom or space for writers. I know some people have group chats, but it’s mostly a private thing, as far as I know? I’m really not a big name in this fandom so there might be a lot of stuff going on that I don’t know about.

As for me - I just message people a lot, with the tumblr feature, or on skype or snapchat if I know them better. I’m open to any and all conversations (most of mine with other writers started by me yelling at them about how much I love their work ^^), so if you want to talk to me please don’t hesitate to shoot me a message. That’s what they’re for, after all? My ask’s always open, and I don’t mind private messages either.

In any case - there’s quite a few people in my immediate vicinity that I’ve talked to and I consider friends - many of them are writers, some are artists, some do both, some do neither. I talk about this problem (of wanting to write, but barely receiving any feedback, of feeling like we’re wasting our time) to pretty much anyone who will listen, but it’s frustrating because I don’t have the influence to change anything. Of course I’ll try to keep my fellow writers motivated and try to change their minds about giving up, but there’s only so much I can do, and in the end it’s their decision. Most writers I’ve talked to really enjoy writing fanfics, and it takes quite a bit of disappointment to get you to the point where you want to just… stop. So… yes, it’s a big problem.

I’m going to wrap this up now, but… again, I cannot emphasize enough how important comments are to writers. I’ve talked to some people who’ve said they’re not sure if their comments will even make a difference, because they feel they haven’t got anything interesting to say - picture it this way. As a writer, I’m standing on a stage and presenting a thing, and in response, about twenty people give me polite nods (kudos, likes) and four actually start clapping. But there’s like two hundred people (hits) standing in this room, and I kind of feel stupid now.
All comments matter. At this point, they might save you your writers. Because with less and less feedback, there’s less and less incentive to actually post things.

I can’t say much for other fandoms because it’s been a while since I’ve written substantially for anything but Haikyuu, which is still a relatively active fandom? But I get the feeling that’s starting to wear off, too.

Enthusiasm shifts, and I get that. But if you still enjoy an author’s work, please, please, by all means leave them a comment. Otherwise it might be the last work you read from them.

I’ve been thinking a lot about Harry related discourse lately, including some suggestions that the way his statements get scrutinised is unbalanced in comparison to the way the other 1D boys are treated when it comes to song lyrics, statements they make in interviews and the general bar we set for them.

I get that it’s annoying that Harry appears to meet more political challenges in relation to the stuff he puts out there, but I’m going to put a positive flip side to that observation. I think Harry attracts particular scrutiny because he’s been more vocal and nuanced about issues which have a social justice lean, such as women’s rights and LGBT activism and that he’s even thinking about this stuff is a very good thing. I know that’s one of the reasons why, as a solo artist, he’s held particular appeal for me and I’ve been so excited to hear more from him as an individual. I think the reason he attracts more extensive critique is because he has consciously positioned himself as someone who gives thought to these issues, as someone who cares about, as he puts it himself, fundamental equality. He comes across in his marketing as someone who thinks about things like gender, women’s rights and LGBT identity and that’s a very, very inspiring thing to see in a 20-something popstar who could frankly choose to be a ‘rich kid of instagram’ and enjoy wealth and privilege without giving a fuck about anything or anyone.

Can you comment on this? Trump has reduced funds for the APH to 1/3rd and orders for all braille books/cctvs/braille writers etc. are being froze. no one is reporting on this, no one cares that my fellow VI people are going to be refused learning materials..I don't know how to get the news out, literally no news organization is reporting on it, only those who make the books have gotten the orders, which a handful of my friends do. This is the time for orders for next year to be placed too..

I can’t believe no one is reporting on this. I can find absolutely no news about it, either, but I believe you that it’s happening. This is the sort of thing Trump would do. It’s unacceptable.

For now all I can think to do is to share the donation link for APH (American Printing House for the Blind). If anyone can donate, please do. If not, share the donation link to anyone who might have some money to spare.

We can’t let Trump get away with this.
