WOW. WOOOOOW. My new good free show comes out on YouTube tonight at 8:30pm AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time)! I have a lot to do to get ready, but I wanted to check and make sure you all find a good chair today. When you watch my show, I want you to be COMFORTABLE. There is nothing worse than sitting on the wrong chair, except for sitting on something that’s not a chair, like a staple gun, or a meat grinder, or a block of ants. So I want you all in your BEST CHAIRS during my show, so you don’t hurt your stink-winkers. Have a solid, firm day, and I will see you TONIGHT!!!!

So I've seen a lot of stuff about The Uncanny Upshurs on your blog and I was wondering what it was about exactly. Your posts say that it's LGBT and a comedy and that's really all we need to know, but I was wondering if there's a specific plot? Sorry if I'm being annoying.

it’s not really a comedy (although it is very funny) - it’s a fantasy webseries about a pair of twins who are split up for the first time ever as they decide to go to different universities. one stays in england, whilst the other moves to the States. it’s sort of about how they deal about being apart, and how their lives continue without each other.

i don’t wanna ruin the plot too much, but there are fantasy/mystery/drama elements – honestly, i really suggest you go check it out!!

Summary: Dee, a non-binary freelance illustrator, is locked into a lease they can’t afford. Dee’s younger sister, Amy, enacts a plan to find the perfect roommate. Enter Rachel, a queer British bartender eager to fit in as a Canadian. Months later, things go from cool to not-so-cool when Rachel reveals a startling secret - she’s claimed Dee as a common-law partner to evade being deported. Amy prompts the pair to create a YouTube channel to prove they are madly in love, and definitely not faking it. Will Dee and Rachel make a convincing couple after all, or are they just couple-ish?

I’ve only watched a few episodes of this so far. It seems a little awkaward sometimes, but it’s a cute and funny webseries.

Happy Playland Casting Update

Hey fandles,

We have some good news and some bad news.

The bad news is, we haven’t been able to cast a disabled actress in the role of Zara. Due to several reasons (Wellington-based filming, production management, comfortable with kissing a woman, chemistry with lead, acting and singing talents…) it is something we have been unable to do for this webseries. :(
As we feel it is important to cast disabled actors in disabled roles we have chosen to re-write the role of Zara for an able-bodied person, rather than putting an able-bodied person in a wheelchair. In future we aim to represent physical disabilities in the media we create. Because diversity and people seeing themselves on-screen is really important to us.

Now, for the good news, we have a #HPLW cast. We have a Billie, a Zara, and a Cris. We’ll tell you which actors are playing these roles very soon (before this Wednesday!), but in the meantime we wanted to address the series as a whole. It is still a musical, it is still incredibly gay, and it is still starring three women (well… generally speaking) in the roles. Our cast also show some of the ethnic diversity in New Zealand. Queer roles are played by queer actors, and this webseries looks to be as fierce, funny, and feminist as we can make it.

We’re super excited to share this story with you all,
Claris, Elsie, Minnie, Sally, and Robbie xx
