this has to be a new art form

anonymous asked:

I've always wondered about this but do you do this blog for yourself or others?

Well, of course, the answer is both. I have a very active mind and this blog is my way of focusing it. It’s my hobby. I believe that blogging done right is a new kind of art form. We can easily combine text, images, animations, video and links in an artistic manner. Never has it been so easy to combine media.

The Slow Flood

You ever feel like there are times in this world when the law of attraction is happening without your knowledge and using its pull on things you aren’t trying to focus on?

Since the start of this year, it seems like there’s been a very freaky “slow flood” of what can’t be called anything other than revelation cringe. And every time some fresh hell arrives and pulls off its mask to show me the ugly face it’s been hiding for years, some form of media bursts onscene a moment later to give me a shocking artistic parallel to the story I’m seeing in life. I turn away from the new revelation to catch my breath, try to walk away from what I know for a second, distract myself with some media, and suddenly I’m looking into a real black mirror.

Art has been imitating life for a bit, now, and life keeps pushing some top-notch cringe or shock material in front of me when I’m just getting comfortable.

I know things about some stuff I shouldn’t know that’s kind of hilarious, sad and horrible. I’m also one of many thousands of people lately who are now aware of something awful that had been going on for years that’s a real gut-puncher. I’m part of a few groups who know things that are very tough pills to swallow.

The list of things that make me feel like ignorance is bliss just keeps growing. The Lasagna Cat discoveries were just one hit in a succession of crazy moments witnessing the true form of some gross truths.

And tonight, studying the next CFD entry and seeing who was behind it, their behavior, and understanding all too well what I’m looking at now, it just gets worse. I’m talking early Chris-Chan levels of embarrassing.

Part of me hopes it will stop. The other part, morbidly curious as ever, wants to keep seeing the secret sickness in people who were fronting like they’ve been sane all along. Every revelation is now a new horror story that’s written itself–just adapt it with new names, locations, and certain changes to protect the guilty while still informing the innocent.

I live for this kind of thing in fiction. I don’t expect it in reality.

Who’s next? What kind of crazy “I need a shower to wash the dirt off my BRAIN” revelation is going to come to me next?

Inherit the Stars

“Creativity has been banned for years.” He points out, “They won’t understand the message behind our art.”

You let out an airy laugh in disbelief, “Who’s ‘they?’”

“Anybody who isn’t us.”

Synopsis: It isn’t a natural feeling, it never will be; and you refuse to accept it — the fact that art and creativity has been frowned upon society for ages. To be an artist in a society where imaginative thought is banned is risky, but to invoke creative thinking among others is a death wish. Though despite all of this, you meet a man whose eyes you have opened to the true beauty of the world, one who defends you with white lies that only turn to black in the end.

re-upload from my old writing blog!

Curiosity leads to creativity; and curious, you were. You had always been an eager child despite the education system and adult peers nagging every being about the “dangers” of art and imagination. You doodled your first picture at age six, picked up your first paint brush at seven, then fell in love with the world of art at age thirteen. Though, your talents were worth not even a penny in your society- the society where art and creativity was banned because the new leader felt as if it threatened the original set of laws.

It was during your fourth summer when society took a sharp turn, the transfer of power towards the next ruler was the most memorable yet devastating event to take place. The bright world filled with many gates of colorful opportunities that people once knew closed and faded to grey. Words of the people were no longer weapons used by the government, their power was and oh, how they abused it. With that, you learned something while growing up. By watching those around you- those you love- get battered by the enforcers of the strict set of new laws, you learned that the lesser people talk- the lesser they will hurt.

Those who challenge or has inventive thought by doing any form of art are killed, sent to jail, or booted from the city and sent beyond the walls; luckily for you, you live in the wide attic of your aunt’s passe diner, free to create anything and everything you want without much suspicion.

“Y/N!” Calls your aunt from the busy diner kitchen below, “Can you take care of the incoming customers? We’re starting to get packed.”

“Okay,” you attempt to reply, but it comes out incomprehensible due to a paintbrush resting between your teeth.

Your aunt exerts a grunt, already tired from the flood of customers, and throws her rag on the metal counter, “Y/N!”

You roll your eyes and spear your paintbrush in hand through the dirty water filling up the glass that holds all of the others. “Coming!”

i duno what it is about homestuck?? usually either something wouldnt be so crushingly disappointing or id have abandoned the fanbase by now.

i think though that it’s the most fun, immersive fanbase i’ve ever been a part of, maybe even the fandom to end all fandoms. i‘m 21 now, and even though homestuck content has slowed to a halt on all ends including my own, i can’t imagine getting so deep into a single new community. since when have people been this creative with their art and humor? since when have you been able to gain such a  direct relationship between the audience and the source material? for goodness sake, there is an official homestuck game company MADE of fans! and its not the only one!

letting yourself get that upset about a silly comic feels wrong. perhaps it’s the length of time homestuck fans have to wait for binges of updates? we can only survive by forming attachments to the base and the characters. mabe it’s the path act 6 took and the complete focus it had on said cast? if you weren’t invested you weren’t going to finish it.

so, homestuck found itself in a tricky situation. it forged its own fanbase with its content and timing, resulting in an audience with extremely high expectations that would get v upset on a genuine level if they were not satisfied, due to the investment required to merely be a fan. homestuck abandoned its puzzle strengths to focus on character strenghs. to do another switcheroo at the end of the comic was like mixing hot air with cold air - it caused a hurricane.

Yoshino’s inverse form was shown in the new art book! Something very interesting to point out is how calm the puppet it and how Yoshino now has an eye patch. Could it be that Yoshinon took over (the anime fails to mention it but Yoshinon is a confirmed separate personality)?

I doubt this will appear in the main story otherwise this wouldn’t have been revealed. Besides, this precious cinnamon roll doesn’t need to be hurt.

It is an amazing design though~

I wanted to do a colored image for my Pathfinder Sorceress, Seres. I haven’t drawn her in awhile and wanted to draw swirls. >>

Seres | Chaotic Neutral | “Human” | Sorceress (Protean Bloodline)

“Seres” (real name is unknown) is a definitively non-human entity trapped in a human child’s body. She has magically induced amnesia, and has had to learn everything from hunger to language (at an accelerated rate) since waking up at the beginning of the campaign.

No one except the GM knows exactly what or who she is, but true to her childish appearance, she began her “new” life with a child’s cruelty and drive for amusement. Right and wrong come second to entertainment, but the rest of the party has been slowly instilling morals in her.

She’s hyper focused in the Transmutation school of magic, focusing on enhancing her physical form and shapeshifting. “Countless Eyes” is one of her favorite spells. :3

Drarry Fic Rec

Love Comes Tumbling (22K): ‘Harry’s thoughts were of how much he would have done differently with Malfoy over the years, and of Dumbledore’s final words to the other boy … “It is my mercy, and not yours, that matters now.”  Maybe, Harry wondered, he could find some mercy, too, and give Malfoy the second chance that Dumbledore had believed him worthy of.’ (this one is so gentle and realistic and omg Harry standing up for Draco is just perfect)

The Art of Cooking the Muggle Way (24K): Cooking. The Muggle Way. Without any Magic. Definitely Draco’s idea of hell. Unless, of course, it leads to much more interesting activities with one Harry Potter. But wait. Draco’s into girls, right? (beyond gorgeous! and sweet and fun and sexy)

Zero to Hero (10K): Harry returns to Hogwarts for his “8th year” in order to pass his N.E.W.T.s and make it into the Auror program. One of his classes is Muggle Studies and the new teacher has a brilliant idea to help them appreciate certain forms of Muggle entertainment. (Disney References, Harry as Hercules and Draco as Megara, I don’t need to say anything else)

Kiss (15K): Harry and Draco are forced to kiss over and over again, because that’s just what happens to two arch-enemies around Christmas. (it’s always time for a good Christmas fic, right?)

Tug-O-Want (17K): Harry is back at Hogwarts minding his own business when he finds himself magically drawn to Draco Malfoy. Over and over again. (i’t’s so adorable and we always need a good bonding fic)

It Takes a Village (24K): Eighth year isn’t exactly going to plan. Harry is definitely not running away, Draco is definitely not impressed, and it’s almost definitely not going to stop raining. (so so beautiful and sweet and again, Harry standing up for their relationship is great)

Hey, Potter (16K): Harry returns to Hogwarts for his 8th year, determined not to let Malfoy get to him. But when the snarky teasing starts up again, Harry finds that returning the jibes with compliments has a far more interesting outcome. (this is definitely one of my favorites! I couldn’t stop smiling the whole time i was reading this )

‘In Search of Us’ with Petra Collins and Friends

To see more from the event, check out #PopRallyxPetra on Instagram.

Artists Petra Collins (@petrafcollins) and Madelyne Beckles (@bellhoox), who co-curated the digital salon “In Search of Us,” have been collaborating since high school. “We met in grade nine and clicked right away,” says Madelyne, who lives in Montreal. “We’ve both evolved into different artists, but love working together, because we are such great friends. Our differences lend themselves well to each other’s practices.”

For this project, which celebrates the representation of women by women, they selected two artists — Aleia Murawski (@aleia) and (@artbabygirl) — who along with Madelyne Grace Miceli produced unique video work. “From a feminist standpoint, collaboration is essential to my practice, politically and artistically,” Madelyne says. “It will always make work stronger and ideas come off more potent when there are different people involved working towards the same vision or goal. Also, to be real: you can’t do everything yourself.”

For Aleia, who lives in Chicago, this approach is familiar. “My art has been shown mostly within DIY women-led art spaces and projects,” she says. “It is a much different framework than the art world I studied in school. It is less about economy and more about forming relationships with other artists. I see this more and more: young artists starting projects to promote one another, to lift each other up and to create safe spaces and opportunities for each other.”

Grace, who lives in New York, agreed. “It’s incredible when your favorite artists are also your friends,” she says. “I want to be an artist who builds confidence in my viewers and makes them feel a little less alone — someone who helps us to understand each other and ourselves. These animations are meant to explore the complicated space a young woman inhabits, where the objects and experiences that are pushed upon you are simultaneously looked down upon by the world around you.”

“In Search of Us,” was timed with Petra and Madelyne’s event #PopRallyxPetra at @themuseumofmodernart on Saturday, March 18.

Sigil #1

I love the idea of incorporating witchcraft in my art, and this is part of a new series I’m working on in my free time which explores that concept. Sigil magic has been used in one way or another in multiple cultures for centuries.Today, a major aspect of a newer practice known as Chaos Magick involves creating sigils that represent a specific intent, and then activating them in one of a variety of ways to project one’s will into reality. In this case, however, I’m creating sigils free-form as the images come to mind, and interpreting that imagery for myself later. I’m putting them out into the world without explanation of their individual meanings, with the hope that each will have a unique significance depending on who views them.

“A blade given form- that’s what she was.”

I’m actually really happy with how this final Nesta X Cassian piece has turned out. I think I’ll make it available to buy as a print if enough people like it :)

Also advertising my new logo design at the top of the piece.

Do you think the gentry get like...excited amongst themselves whenever a new art form shows up among the students. Like, that one kid who actually knows how to play a mouth harp, or another kid who beat boxes while playing the flute and they all just....quietly start to swarm them

Novelty fascinates them. They would be wary at first (who knows what powers the beat-box flutist has at their command??) but you would definitely feel watched just… more or less constantly, until something new came along.

Tonight i saw Your Name 君の名は。(Kimi no Na wa 2016) in the cinema, il try not to say too much other than i really enjoyed it :D annnd i can see why its doing so well around the world. Im big fan of Shinkai’s other films & shorts but i was glad that the story had more to offer than a typical romance and was also packed with humour, drama & personality.  Compared to his previous works it features even more of his signature face melting/beautiful/breath taking digital art & scenery but even from the first few shots you can see his shot composition and cinematography skill has reached a whole new level.

As far as comparing Your Name to Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away…. its a total apples and oranges situation and i think the least abstract comparison can be made in box office figures as the films are made by two men from completely different generations created using a very different set of tools and skills. Its said that 2D animation is a dead art form but the truth is its just being made in a different way and personally I’m glad there are a new generation of anime film creators like Makoto Shinkai and Mamoru Hosoda around.

(Thanks to everyone who commented on my last post and let me know what they thought of Your Name, honestly the most fun thing about tumblr for me is reading other peoples comments my posts)

Frame-by-Frame Animation

Frame animation is one the oldest, most-respected, and versatile forms of art around. From M&M commercials to anime, it is firmly ingrained in modern culture - it’s hard to imagine life without it. Unfortunately, it’s also notoriously difficult to do without the right hardware or software.

However, you’re in luck: Photoshop has animation support.

STEP 1: Create a new image. Go to the “Windows” dropdown menu at the top toolbar and make sure “Timeline” is checked.

STEP 2: You should see a toolbar like this at the bottom of the Photoshop window. This is your animation timeline. Click the “New Frame Animation” button if there is one.

STEP 3: Now, draw your first frame! Keep in mind that this will be one of many.

STEP 4: When you’re ready to move on, click the highlighted icon to create a new frame. Create each new frame in a new layer or layer group - hide the ones you aren’t using at the moment.

STEP 5: If you ever want to change the playback speed, simply select all of the frames using [CLICK/SHIFT+CLICK] and open the speed dropdown menu - you can change speed from here.

And you’re done! Animation is super versatile, so let your imagination run wild. Happy animating!
