Kessie, like me, is a cosplayer, and like me also, a huge avatar-fan.
Even more so, as an Inuit, she rarely sees herself represented in
characters in mainstream media, but there was Katara. An amazing,
well-written, feminist girl who was just like her. Of course she had to
cosplay her! (Honestly though, who DOESN’T love Katara??). So far she has the wig, and the “lenses”, so now she just needs the outfit and shoes.
I’ll be making her outfit sometime this week probably. It depends on whether or not I have the time. I’m traveling to Røros with the Uni folk dance group early Friday for the weekend.
I’m not a good hairstylist. Never have been. I’ll
probably re-style this a thousand times more. But for now it works. I
could have done any of Katara’s other hairstyles rather easily with this
wig, and I still can restyle it to them, but I’ve always preferred her
(insta: kestrelohara if you want to follow me there too :3 )

For Mark McMorris, risk of backcountry snowboarding is part of the sport
It’s a jump Mark McMorris has executed successfully thousands of times. For a world-class snowboarder, it’s the equivalent of an Olympic gymnast doing a front somersault.
“It was well within our skill set,” McMorris’s brother Craig said in a phone interview Monday. “He was doing a front side 360, one of the easiest tricks in the world. Mark has probably done a trillion of these.”
The McMorrises have spent countless hours snowboarding in B.C.’s pristine backcountry, away from manmade jumps and curious onlookers.
And Saturday’s outing should have been no different.
“We were hitting a jump and he just went a little too far to the left, and it was just really unfortunate he ran into some trees,” Craig McMorris said.
They had already successfully completed the jump without incident.
“Mark had hit it once, I had hit it a couple of times. It was just a fun session. It was a super freak accident. Mark never ever, ever makes mistakes, but he made a tiny mistake and went into some trees and it was just awful.”
In serious condition
The accident left one of Canada’s most accomplished winter athletes battered and bloodied. McMorris had to be airlifted to a Vancouver hospital, where he remains in serious condition recovering from injuries including a fractured jaw, fractured left arm, ruptured spleen and a collapsed left lung.
“It was extremely ugly, obviously he was incredibly broken,” Craig McMorris said.
When it comes to snowboarding in Canada, there is very little Mark McMorris hasn’t accomplished — World Cup victories, Olympic bronze medallist in 2014, and back-to-back gold medals at the X Games. He has legions of fans and sponsors, attracted by his dizzying aerial feats and down-to-earth personality
Those who don’t follow snowboarding might wonder why an accomplished professional, favoured by many to win a medal at the 2018 Olympic Games, would risk everything by stepping beyond the ropes of a resort setting into the unmarked, untouched backcountry.
It seems snowboarding is different from other sports when it comes to risky activity beyond the field of play.
There are no contracts that preclude snowboarders from doing things — like jet skiing or bungee jumping — that could affect their livelihood.
The risk taking that comes with backcountry snowboarding is part of a snowboarder’s reputation, part of the promotional package.
“That’s where snowboarding is different from other sports,” Craig McMorris said. “In your free time you recreationally want to go snowboarding, especially in the backcountry, it’s extremely fun. He enjoys competing, but this is completely different. He looks forward to this.
"This is what makes snowboarding different than other sports. If you play professional baseball or hockey you are not going out and playing baseball with your friends. Snowboarding is different. You want to be out with your friends, it’s the most fun you can have.”
Mark McMorris spoke to what makes backcountry boarding so appealing in the 2016 movie In Motion.
“Riding lines in the backcountry, everything’s new,” he said. “That cliff is different. That turn is going to be different. It’s more about riding it in the now, and doing something sick now.”
In the CBC production Building a Snowboarder’s Dream, McMorris said, "When you ask anybody in the world who snowboards, they like to go out and adventure or free ride.“
It seems for many snowboarders the backcountry experience outstrips any podium finish or cheering crowd.
"Backcountry snowboarding is the breeding ground for what makes you want to snowboard,” Darcy Sharpe, McMorris’s friend and teammate, said Monday. “As a kid, Mark, myself, we grew up watching these movies that were all inspired by this … so it’s kind of carrying the torch. He is trying to inspire kids to snowboard, to have fun, meanwhile he is having fun. He’s not going there for work.”
Sharpe said a YouTube clip that creates buzz among fellow riders can be just as important as more official recognition.
“To win video of the year (from one of the snowboarding magazines) would be just [as prestigious] as winning an X Games or a World Cup if not more.”
Jake Bogoch, the former editor of SBC Skier magazine, has experienced backcountry skiing and snowboarding.
“The rewards are untracked lines,” Bogoch said. “You have snow that is completely unmanaged just the way that nature intends. It falls from the sky, it’s affected by temperature, it’s affected by winds. It’s not affected by human traffic. It’s not affected by snow machines or grooming.
"And you get this really soft silky powdery snow and it allows you to almost float and land big jumps and really glide across the mountain really fluidly in a totally different way than you would at a ski resort.”
Devun Walsh, one of Canada’s most accomplished snowboarders, said the backcountry experience frees riders from the judged competition setting that rewards tricks, thrills and height.
“I think your peers don’t really care about the accolades,” Walsh said. “People love Mark because he wants to keep snowboarding real, remember the roots of snowboarding. Now, a lot of the kids [in competition] could care less about making a powder turn, they just want to make the next rotations.”
Walsh said that even for a world-class snowboarder like McMorris, no competition can offer the high of the backcountry.
“It gets really repetitive and boring, the same jumps, whereas the backcountry is just filled with natural jumps [that] make it more interesting and probably keeps him alive,” Walsh said. “I used to do X Games, but backcountry is so much fun. Once you ride powder, you are instantly sucked into it.”
I’m 200% sure this had been done a thousand times before, but after reading my 10000000th fanfiction / doujinshi on the subject I just felt like I had to
24/7 grumpy and rude Iwa-chan. Ok that is just not true. Iwa-chan is a funny, kind, smart young man who clearly has a certain type of charisma. Ok his probably not the most delicate person towards Oikawa but that doesn’t mean he’s walking around with this angry face all the time. Furthermore, they are childhood friends and when you’ve been friends with someone since you were kids you definitely know how to make them laugh. And you do make them laugh. And they make you laugh too. That’s just how it works.
Shittikawa. No. Just no. I really can’t imagine Iwaizumi calling Oikawa so. Especially in front of others. ‘Cause Oikawa still feels insecure about himself, he’s afraid of not being talented enough, of not being good enough. Like I’m sure he freaked out so bad about his knee, and his glasses and everything that can possibly stand on his way to becoming one of the best damn players in the country. And he needs Iwaizumi to stand by his side and to support him. That doesn’t mean Iwa-chan doesn’t insult him or come down hard on him, but he certainly doesn’t call him shitty-anything, let’s just leave it to Zoro and Sanji ok
AU where Oikawa isn’t 130% dedicated to whatever he does in life. This concerns all the AU’s where Oikawa’s occupation is nothing more than a back-ground for all the romantic stuff. Ok romantic stuff is good, it’s what we’re all here for but! Oikawa Tooru is the most passionate character in whole Haikyuu (ok there’s also Hinata, but in a very different way). In Tooru’s case it’s more about the true meaning of passion, like in those Greek tragedies where it’s devastating and burning and harmful somehow: he has control issues when it comes to volleyball, he almost hit one of his kohais, he loses his sleep and spends nights watching games, he trains so much and so hard that he ends up hurt, he knows the fucking court by hart. So if there’s an AU where he’s a florist / scientist / doctor / king/ or whatever, I can’t believe he would be any less obsessed with his job (except if he had to leave volleyball for a reason and found something else to do. That’s different).
Oikawa being a damsel in distress. So ok Oikawa probably is fragile in a way, he needs to be able to rely on someone (ok not someone, a very particular one) and he definitely needs someone to save him from himself from time to time. But he’s not a weak squishy little thing waiting for brave Iwa-chan to come and save him from bad dangerous stuff. He’s perfectly strong by himself. He’s perfectly capable of dealing with Ushijima and all his “you’ve chosen a wrong way” shit, he controls his pain and his tears and his disappointment when all of his teammates (and his best friend) have their eyes wet with tears and god have you even seen his tosses? How he literally flattens the ball into the ground? The way he jumps? Or how he fucking. Crushed. Into. Those. Chairs? And got back in the game like immediately? This guy is physically strong and enduring and stubborn so no I don’t think he’d be hiding behind Iwaizumi’s back at any occasion.
Iwaizumi constantly denying his feelings for Oikawa (considering he already has feelings for him. Falling for Oikawa is a different type of thing). Ok this one is my very personal way of seeing things, but I kinda feel that Iwa-chan is more honest with himself then Oikawa is. So he’d probably be confused and hesitating and taking it slooooow, but he wouldn’t deny it if deep inside he knows it’s here.
Iwaoi being a love/hate relationship. NOPE it is NOT. And neither is klance actually. Iwa-chan certainly doesn’t hate Oikawa. And most likely never did (‘cause once again, kids don’t really tend to spend time with people they don’t like). They are friends. They had been for years. You just don’t keep hanging out with someone you hate for years. Unless you’re a masochist but I don’t think that’s Iwa-chan’s thing (or maybe in different circumstances, who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
I’m sorry for the whole English and grammar and vocabulary part I’m trying I really am
I know this has probably been done thousands of times by now, but I’ve been out of Internet connection for WEEKS and that’s like centuries in the fandom world, so bare with me, please ;______;
