You knocked once on the bathroom door and waited for a response. After receiving a text from Yoongi, you rushed out of the door and into the nearest taxi. Reading over the texts again and again, you felt your stomach twist as the guilt set in. Fuck, what had you done. The fact Jungkook thought he was a bad boyfriend made your heart squeeze into your throat. He was far from it, in fact he was the best boyfriend you have ever had, going above and beyond anyone ever had. Making you smile when you needed it, telling you that he loved you nearly every day even when he was on tour. He would always make you feel so loved and important and you couldn’t even let him off this one time. You were being selfish and you needed to fix it. You phone beeped with another text, this time from Taehyung.

In the weeks following, you had almost completely isolated yourself. You were now working from home, unable to find the motivation to drag yourself into the office. It wasn’t like you had to be there anyway. Your job mostly consisted of things that could easily be done remotely. Any time your team needed to consult with you, they just scheduled a conference call. Anyway, Steve kept you updated if there was anything you missed. That was one of the many bonuses of working with him.

You were still staying with Steve, but you preferred to spend most of your time in your room. You were suddenly thankful that he had ignored your advice and rented the two-bedroom apartment rather than the one bedroom that you had initially suggested. When he was at work, it was either Wanda or Steve’s friend Natasha who watched over you. You tried to insist that it was unnecessary, but none of them would listen. They usually left when Steve got home, and you would sit with him, eat dinner and watch whatever sports game or TV show Steve was watching, then excuse yourself to go to bed.

They always say “that that’s the way it is” and “you’ll get over it”.
Maybe you will get over it, maybe you’ll get over my absence…but will I get over yours?

You were everything to me, my best friend, my diary, my safe place.

The person I could run to and suddenly the miserable day I had wouldn’t matter because we’d be singing together so loudly that I couldn’t even hear my thoughts… I skip the songs now.

The 3am phone call when I couldn’t sleep and my thoughts were filling my lungs like a flood travelling up into my throat, almost like I could vomit them straight back up again every time I tried to swallow and suppress them…now the only comfort I find is my tear stained pillow.

The continuous laughter from a joke 10 minutes ago that wasn’t even mildly funny but we thought that it was hilarious…sighs replace our giggles now.

The smile across the room when something made me nervous and I’d look at you, you’d reassure me with that smile…you don’t look at me anymore.

The eye contact when someone asked if I was okay and I muttered I’m fine under my breath, because you didn’t need to ask and I didn’t need to say…it’s been months of “I’m fine.”,I stare at the ground now.

The sleepovers when that morning I didn’t even want to leave my bed, the inside jokes that made me laugh when I didn’t even want to smile, the plans for the future we made when I didn’t even see one for myself. Because you felt like home, you were my best friend.

You were my happiness.

But what was I to you?

Stepping stones.

Something you walked over as you stood above me,used so you could get over your obstacles and reach the side where the grass is always greener.

I didn’t mind helping you along though, but then you walked on the stepping stones to the side that had more to offer, the side that offered alcohol for you to drink, boys for you to love, and better people for you to trust and laugh with,

I don’t blame you though, but you never came back.

You left me stuck in the middle, the water got deeper and deeper and it was surrounding me and no matter how strong I stood it kept washing over me leaving me gasping for air and choking on the water, along with the lies you fed me.

But here you were laughing, creating new memories with thousands of others while I was left in the ocean with no one else but myself.

I don’t know if I can forgive you. I miss you quite terribly but my stepping stone days are done because I have now realised that nobody will ever deserve to feel like they’re not worthy of love.

But when you get tired and the grass loses its vibrant colour and starts to rot and you want to just come home, it’s too late because there will be no access to the side that was never good enough for you.

Because when you burn bridges you may rebuild them after a lot of work and effort. But you can never rebuild stepping stones.
—  I miss you quite terribly.

parents kissing (stefan salvatore drabble)

you and stefan are the parent figures of your friend group and he ends up suggesting something that’s a little crazy at first.

(gifs aren’t mine!!)

“Damon Salvatore–NO!” You glare at Damon as he and Kai prepare to throw daggers at one another in some sort of game.

“Kai, cut it out,” Stefan walks in the living room and grabs the knife out of Kai’s hand on his way towards the bar.

“Hey!” Kai whines, stomping after Stefan as Damon points and laughs at him.

“Damon, please act your age– you’re almost 200 years old,” Stefan raises his brows at his brother who shrugs almost proudly.

“Damon. Hand over your knife, NOW,” you glare at him and he raises his brows, almost amused by your attempt to scare him.

So you walk over to him with a confident smirk on your face. Seeing the confidence, Damon kind of shrinks down. You stop right next to him and pulls his head lower so that you can whisper to him. You see Stefan and Kai’s eyes on you and so you put a little extra effort into both your performance and the threat that you’re whispering in Damon’s ear.

By the time you’re done, Damon shudders and gives you a disgusted look while handing over the knife. You kiss his cheek and give your audience a little curtsy before walking over to the bar.

“That was so hot,” Kai whispers, clearing his throat as Stefan gives him a look.

“I think you should go to your little friend Damon. If you’re lucky, he’ll tell you what I told him,” you raise your brows innocently and Kai runs over to Damon, almost tripping on his own two feet.

“You definitely threatened to rip his dick off,” Stefan looks over to you and you laugh.

“In very graphic detail. God I almost felt bad. Almost,” you smile as Stefan hands you a drink.

“They’re like children. I mean I get why,” Stefan shrugs. “Neither of him had the best childhoods, so it makes sense that they’re trying to make up for lost time but still.”

“Oh god and they’re both vampires. It’s gonna be like this forever,” you groan and Stefan laughs lightly, taking another sip of his bourbon.

“We’re gonna need a lot more bourbon to get through this life. We’re running out as it is.”

“I call supply runs if you watch the kids?” You raise your brows towards Stefan who looks too hesitant for your liking. “Come on! I’m human! What if these idiots kill me?”

“You know they won’t ever do that.”

“And how can you be so sure?” You take a sip of your drink as Stefan thinks of what to say.

“I know that they wouldn’t dare lay a hand on you because I would murder them,” Stefan shrugs as your mouth falls open.

“Oh come on you can’t do that!” He raises his brows and you hold your hands up. “Look, I’m not saying I want to be dead, but accidents happen where vampires are involved.”

“You can’t just be written off as an accident, Y/N,” Stefan shakes his head and Damon smirks at the two of you, winking in your direction.

“Why does Damon look like that?” You furrow your brows as Stefan rolls his eyes.

“It’s nothing.”

You look back at Damon and this time he and Kai are both giving you a wierd look… Is Kai blowing kisses at you?

“Are they really that turned on by me ripping off their balls one at a time?” You finish your drink and Stefan laughs, shaking his head at you.

“No, they’re waiting to see your reaction after I ask you out. Also they’re listening in on our conversa–”

“I’m sorry did you just say they’re waiting for you to ask me out?” You raise a brow at him. “Why would you do that?”

“Well we’re like the mom and dad of the group, so it’s fitting.”

“Please tell me you have a better reason than that because I want to say yes, but you’re making it hard,” you rest an elbow on the table and Stefan sighs, dropping his head.

“The truth is that I’ve wanted to ask you out for a while, but things managed to get in the way. For one, my mom came back to life. And then Caroline happened. And then–”

“Alright, I’m familiar with the trainwreck that’s been our lives these past few years. Go on.”

“Well the thing that pushed me over the edge is that date you went on with Kol. I haven’t been that angry in a very long time, Y/N,” he sighs, crossing his arms over his chest. “I saw him wrapping an arm around you and making you laugh and it made me angry.”

“So you’re asking me out because you’re angry?” You furrow your brows, determined to fuck with him as much as you could.

“No, Y/N, listen. AGH,” he groans, turning his head the other way. “I knew this was a bad idea.”

“So you’re gonna give up because this is getting hard?” You turn him around to face you again. “I don’t know how this is going to work.”

“See? I knew–”

“Yes, I’ll go out with you,” you whisper, a smile growing on Stefan’s face as he leans in for another kiss to which you gladly oblige.

“Seeing your parents kiss is so disturbing,” you hear Kai’s voice as Damon gags.

You and Stefan burst out laughing at the two idiots who were practically your children. This was gonna be fun.

Request: Could you write one where the reader is taking a nap and she’s pregnant and wakes up to dean talking to her stomach and it’s just all fluffy and cute

Thank you! I hope it’s what you were hoping for. Lots of love<3

“So anyway,” You continue, dipping the spoon back into the ice-cream carton and digging out another generous mouthful, “I get into the kitchen and he’s sat there, just munching on the last cookie. I’m not even kidding. I’d been craving them for weeks and I’d finally managed to convince his protective, overbearing ass to take me out to pick up the ingredients and he eats the last bloody one.”

Sam eyes the carton, balanced precariously atop your growing bump, and smiles a little, “He can be rude sometimes.”

“I know, right? And he acts like it’s nothing, like I haven’t been dragging his spawn around inside me for… what, seven and a half months?” You sigh dramatically, “All I wanted was a cookie and now all I have is…”

“Ice-cream?” Sam quirks an eyebrow with an amused smile, but you just shoot him a sardonic glare.

“It isn’t what I want. And you and Dean are so close, this might as well be your spawn too, so watch what you’re saying.” You manage to get the spoonful of ice-cream into your mouth just in time to point the spoon at him accusatorially, but he only laughs at you – it’s been like this for nearly three days now, considering that you’re not exactly on speaking terms with Dean unless it involves backrubs or food.

“I’m sure he feels awful.” Sam attempts, picking up another plate and setting it in the warm, soapy water of the sink – baby-proofing efforts are fully underway in the bunker, which, according to Sam, means turning the place into a clean, half-decent child-rearing environment. The brothers are so concerned with making it completely perfect and safe that you’ve barely had anything to do with it, which you’re perfectly fine with at this point.

“No, he doesn’t. He feels bad that I’m grumpy with him. But he enjoyed that cookie, and I know it.” You narrow your eyes, “They were damn good cookies.”

Sam turns to you after a moment, “Y/N, can I say something without you… spontaneously bursting into tears or throwing your ice-cream at me?”

“Probably not, but go on.” You nod, scraping out the bottom of the carton and giving him a roguish grin. He offers a small, though hesitant, smile, drying his hands off on the towel draped over the oven door handle.

“I think you’re scared. About Dean, about the baby, about everything.” He watches warily as your eyes narrow, and you sit forward slowly, a protective hand moving over your stomach as if his words could somehow hurt the tiny, helpless infant inside, “And I can’t help but wonder if you’re finding excuses to keep him at arm’s length so that if something does go wrong, he doesn’t blame himself. So he isn’t so hurt by losing one or both of you.”

“Sam-“ You try, but he has a way of reading you that not even Dean has managed to grasp – he really is your best friend, your brother in all but blood – in the least weird way, considering you’ve been with his biological brother for years.

“You’re going to be fine, Y/N. All three of you.”

“All four of us.” You correct, and he gives a conceding nod.

“All four of us. We have heaven and hell on our side, Y/N. Trust me on this one, alright?” He moves half a step closer to you, the smile on his face reminding you that he’s as excited as you are for this, and has mulled over every single one of the same possibilities, “We’ve gotten through everything else. This is just another adventure.”

You let the silence hang between you for a few moments, before hauling yourself to your feet and fixing him with a look that lets him know that he’s absolutely right, but that you’re less than impressed about it.

“One of these days, Sam Winchester, you’re going to tell someone a home truth that they really hate and you’re going to get punched.” You tell him, though the smile on your face instantly negates any kind of seriousness in your statement, “And fair warning, I am going to laugh.”

“Fair point.” He smiles, stepping forward to take your shoulders in his hands and press an affectionate kiss to your brow, “Go on, Y/N, get some rest. I’m almost done here.”

He can tell how obnoxiously tired you are, and even how hard you’re trying to hide it. It’s been a difficult transition, and one you’re still struggling with, going from reckless, active hunter, to careful, nurturing mother – though it’s one you’re more than willing to make.

“Alright, Sammy. I’m going for a nap.”

***

Naps have recently – even over the last three or four weeks – have become your primary source of sustenance. Depending on the hours that Winchester junior decides to make your bladder/ribs/kidneys into his or her personal trampoline, you’re not getting as much sleep as night as you perhaps should be, which means that the couch is your new favourite spot – these days, if either brother or anyone else needs to get a hold of you, that’s usually where you can be found.

When you find that the something pulling you from the warmth and comfort of sleep is Dean’s voice, you’re less than surprised – for a man who pretty much makes a living out of being sneaky and stealthy, he doesn’t half know how to make a racket (and then some) when he wants to. What you are more surprised to find is that, from where his voice is, he’s sat on the floor in front of you with his face up close to your shirt – more specifically, to your stomach.

“… And she’s stubborn; don’t ever try to get in her way. I’ve known her forever, and I’ve only actively disagreed with her once or twice. She’s clever, too. Probably too much for her own good. And beautiful – hopefully you’ll look a lot like her, but not too much, because then you’ll be charming the living shit out of everything in a five mile radius from the minute you’re born and none of us will stand a chance.”

He’s speaking in a low, soft tone that is difficult for even you to pick up at this point, but what you do feel is his hand lightly ghosting over your stomach – at first, you thought it was a bit odd, the way he’d like to randomly feel you up, but it eventually became more endearing than anything else.

“Another thing you’ve gotta watch out for with your mom is that she’s funny. Too funny, sometimes, like when we’re in a life or death situation and she comes out with a comment and man, does it piss off whoever – or whatever – we’re hunting and it distracts us all but it just makes the whole thing more bearable. But you’ll never know any of that, anyway, if we get our way. You deserve better, and I’ll be damned if that’s not what you’re going to get. Then again, I’m probably damned anyway.”

He sighs softly, and after a moment, you feel his nose up against your skin.

“God, kid, I hope I don’t screw you up. I hope you get the childhood I couldn’t. I’d never be able to live with myself if you were scared for one minute of it.” He’s choked up, you realise, your heart skipping a beat and stomach lurching, “Kid, you are so, so loved. Whether your mom is pissed off at me or not; whether you know it or not, you two are the best thing that ever happened to me, and I promise you, you’re not going to forget that. And neither am I.”

There’s a long moment, and he takes a deep breath, obviously trying to collect himself – you’ve heard him speaking to the bump before, of course. He’s played music to it, cranking the volume up in the Impala as soon as he’d read in one of those books that the baby had hearing organs (‘Have to get their tastes refined early, Y/N. I refuse to have a child who can’t appreciate a bit of rock.’) and belting out lyrics even when it was just the two of you – but never like this. Never with that… vulnerability; never with that kind of feeling.

You prise one eye open, watching him for a few moments, “You really just can’t let me be mad at you for more than three and a half minutes, can you?”

His head snaps up and his eyes widen as he realises that you’re awake, and have been the whole time – his eyes are still shining and slightly glazed, but he plays it off by clearing his throat and giving you a small smile.

“So you’re not mad at me anymore? I can’t keep up.” He says softly, searching for your hand, and, once he finds it, he twines his fingers with yours sweetly.

“I was never mad at you. Well… not once the damage had been done.” You concede with a smile, slowly pushing yourself into a sitting position so he can come and sit beside you, one arm around your shoulders and the other hand still laced with yours.

“I’m sorry about the cookie. I’ll go and find more, Sam and I were thinking about-“

“It’s not about the damn cookie, Dean. Not even a little.” You interrupt, pulling your hand from his to hold his palm to your stomach, “I… was being dumb. And stupid. And rude. And it was uncalled for, whether I was being funny and petty over a cookie or not.”

“Is that an apology?” His eyes widen, but a grin spreads over his face as the baby kicks against his hand. You quirk an eyebrow.

“Don’t push your luck. And whether I’m mad or not, you owe me cookies.”

He doesn’t hesitate to nod, leaning down and pressing a soft kiss to your lips, “Anything you want. Everything you want. I don’t care, Y/N. You – both of you – you’re my world now.”

”You’re still here? I thought you were supposed to be off at 5?” The confusion was clear on Nicole’s face when you glanced over your shoulder to see her stand in the door frame to your office.

“I was supposed to.” You mumbled and wanted to roll your eyes. The work in front of you was insane, the pile was only growing bigger and you couldn’t see the finish line.

“But with Luke’s busy schedule and lack of planning he forgot to mention that I had to make 200 invitations for an event he has coming up soon. This means I will be staying here until the early hours of morning before I manage to finish any of this.”

Some people see life in black and white;

And others see it in brown and blue,

but Kim Taehyung only sees it in red and you.

Hues of orange and brown glinted against the gray of the pavement as you made your way to your Seoul University dorm.  The soft crunch of leaves under your feet left you giddy while you beam over to your not-as-excited best friend, Jeon Jungkook took the box from your hands. A soft scoff escapes his lips as he observes your cheerful attitude.

“You’re going to drop everything if you continue to act like that,” He chuckles softly before patting your head. The curves of his lips meet

“Are you sure that you don’t want to just live together?” Jungkook suggested as he dropped your box onto the floor of your Seoul University dorm. His hair fell over his eyes as he stretched to work the kinks out of his back.

"Jungkook, we hang out pretty much every day all day. Don’t you think living together would be a bit much?“ You asked while carrying the box with all of your school items from over the years.

At your response, Jungkook rolled his eyes, “Well excuse me for trying to get closer to my best friend.” He took the box from your hands and set it down beside your bed. “-and besides, can you blame me? I don’t want to live with any more guys. My brother ruined it for me.”

“Jeon Jungkook,” You placed your hands on his shoulders. “I don’t know if you realize this or not with the questionable amount of  girl group dances you do, but you are a guy.” You stated matter of factly.

Jungkook shrugged your hands off his shoulders. “Ha, ha, you’re so funny.” He rolled his eyes again before raising his brows. “I almost forgot, I got you something.”

“Jungkook, you didn’t have to-”

“I wanted to. Now close your eyes and turn around.” Jungkook shushes you once he swings you around and moved your hair from your shoulders.

You shiver from the cold material against your neck before opening your eyes. “Jungkook-” You cry to the ravenette who stands behind you, smirking that smug look that you publicly chastised but secretly adored.

“I wanted to get you something for coming to Seoul with me. You didn’t have to come but you did and-”

Jungkook was caught off by a high pitched squeal. “Are you, Y/N? I’m Hyejin, your roommate.” A pretty brunette girl came into your vision once you turned around to face you.

“Hi, I’m Y/N. It’s nice to meet you.” You smiled at her softly, holding your hand out. What first caught your eye was a shimmer from her wrist, a charm bracelet, caught your eyes at once. A calligraphic ‘H’ adorned the center charm.

Hyejin’s eyes traveled over to Jungkook, who gaped at her almost. “And who’s this pretty boy?” She tilted her head to send him a smile.

“Jeon, Jeon Jungkook, my idiot best friend since diapers.” You laugh as Jungkook glared at you before winking back at her. “Careful, don’t let his pretty boy looks fool you.”

Hyejin nodded at Jungkook before a calm, low voice filled your ears. “Hey, jagiya, where do I put this?” Your brows furrowed at the sound of the voice. A blonde headed boy wearing a black t-shirt and ripped jeans came into sight wearing glasses. Once his eyes fell on you, his blood ran cold. His throat became the Saharan desert and his hands visibly trembled.

Aish, aish, aish, the word ran through Taehyung’s mind like a mantra when his eyes fell on yours.

“You can put over there. Y/N, Jungkook, this is my boyfriend, Hansung.” Hyejin grinned before turning to show Taehyung where to place the box who had not taken his eyes off of you since he walked in. “Don’t mind him, he’s just a little shy, that’s all.”

Jungkook noticed the change in the boy with raised brows. Instinctively, Jungkook placed his hand on the small of your back. Something was off about this boy, Jungkook told himself. “Hansung?” Where had Jungkook heard that name before?

You attempted to discreetly nudge Jungkook at his rude actions but Taehyung saw. He saw everything. “Well, it’s nice to meet you, Hansung.” You piped up before moving Jungkook’s hand from your waist. “After you guys are done unloading, do you want to maybe grab a bite to eat?”

Hyejin smiled softly as if to say yes before she turned to a flushed looking Taehyung. Her eyes narrowed at him, confused at why he was acting like this all of a sudden. “I think we’ll pass, we have a lot to unpacking to do but thanks for asking.”

“Cool, no worries.” You smiled before turning back to Jungkook. “Let’s go, Busan.” You patted him on the back and pushed him out of the dorm slowly. “See you guys later!” You called out before closing the door behind you to the dorm. You sighed to yourself as you turned to look at Jungkook’s questioning look. “What is it?”

“I don’t know, something seemed a bit off about him.” Jungkook visibly shrugged it off. “Just let me know if he ever messes with you, okay?”

Following suit, you walked beside Jungkook with a grimace. “Jungkook, we aren’t kids anymore. You don’t have to protect me against every member of the opposite sex. Besides, he’s probably just really shy and he has a girlfriend. What would he want with me?”

“I don’t know if you know this, Y/N,” He states, mimicking you earlier by stopping you in front of your dorm house and placing his hands on your shoulders. You find yourself shivering not because of him (at least that’s what you told yourself) and from the warm breeze that hit you. “-but you’re a beautiful girl. You’re smart too. Any guy would be lucky to have you.” The look in his mocha brown eyes leave you in a trance almost from his sweet words. Though you know not to take his words to heart, he had been saying this for years after all.

“Stop it, Jungkook,” You say with a small laugh to lighten the mood and move his hands from your shoulders. “Let’s go eat, okay?”

Unbeknownst to you, Taehyung sat on Hyejin’s bed with a horrified look on his face. Had it really been you? For years, Taehyung had adored you from a far and to see you so close, and be able to have you talk to him… Oh, what joy he was supposed to feel! Though the very idea of you being so close to him irked him. It irked him even more so than Jungkook always being by your side like a ’d’ on a dime. You were too pure for him, he had convinced himself of this, and he hoped that you would forgive him for getting so close.  Beings as fair as you could never be tainted with someone like Taehyung. It simply wasn’t right. This was the common idea that Taehyung used to reassure himself of his actions.

“Aish, how could I be so selfish?” Taehyung chastised himself while he held his head in hands. You would have to forgive him, wouldn’t you? If he could not make you forgive him, he would just persuade you somehow. He had noticed the pitiful necklace that Jungkook had bought you. Surely, he thought to himself, you deserve something much better.

Hyejin returned to Taehyung’s side with a smile. “Is something wrong, babe?” She tried to comfort him. Her brown hair fell over her eyes as she sent him a small smile in efforts to reassure him.

“Why didn’t you tell me you weren’t alone?” Taehyung whimpered while rubbing his face. He hadn’t told Hyejin about his true intentions and knew that he would have to keep his emotions together if he wanted to spend as much time with you as he could. “You know I’m awkward around new people.” Taehyung quickly adds to cover his tracks.

Hyejin pouted her lips in response to her boyfriend. “I forgot, babe. I’m sorry.” She pressed her lips against his cheeks and Taehyung had to suppress the shiver that wrought through him.

“No, no, it’s fine.” Taehyung smiles sweetly at Hyejin in attempt to appease her. “I overreacted… I just happen to do that some times.” His smile was false, just as it always was. On the inside, every emotion within him tore him limb from limb. The mere thought of you could leave him paralyzed – but you in the same room as him? In such a small vicinity? What more could he do to distance himself without losing the small grasp he (thought) he had on you?

Taehyung walked home in a daze that night; swollen eyes and swollen lips were a result from one too many drinks at the bar and he secretly wished that he would have taken up Hyejin’s offer of staying in the dorms with Jungkook, her, and you. Taehyung could still remember the suspicious look in Jungkook’s eyes as the younger boy watched the older turn down a night with his girlfriend. Images of the younger boy and you flooded his mind and he found himself stumbling against the brick wall of his neighbor’s home.

“It’s okay, it’s okay, it’s okay,” Taehyung repeated to himself as he curled his left hand over his ear; his eyes drooping before he closed them in bliss once his mind painted the perfect picture of you. A sigh emits from him as he plays his right hand over his stomach. “You’ll remember me,” his voice was barely above a whisper. “just like you promised, my Y/n.”

Some mingyu angst would bc nice like due to being an idol you havent seen him latley and hes all stressed and accidently tells u he doesnt love u anymore hehe can it have a happy ending

“I really like you, and it would be amazing if you wanted to go out with me, Y/N.”

It had been a bit over a year since Mingyu first asked you to date him, his eyes full of hope and a small smile playing on his lips. It felt like it had just happened the day before, and a part of you almost wished it had.

Most of that year had been amazing: he had been so loving, so invested in your relationship and so there that it pained you to be reminded of the present reality, where you were always the one to contact him, got late replies if any, and were able to see him only rarely. It was upsetting, to say the least, yet somehow the memories of how good he could be kept you there, hoping that things would change.

Besides, for those short moments that you were able to see him every now and then, he was, more often than not, much like the Mingyu in your memories: cuddly, sweet and apologetic whenever he felt like he had wronged you, in one way or another.

Although, even that had started to change, and little by little Mingyu started being distant and tense even with you, saying rash things more and more often and apologizing while rubbing his temples and saying that he’s been really stressed lately.

You supposed you were lucky to know the reason behind the change - as a member of a very popular idol group who had a lot of activities, it was only natural for Mingyu to be busy and tired - but it didn’t make it any less of a bitter pill to swallow.

That evening, you had been fortunate enough to schedule a dinner date with Mingyu, which you had been looking forward to for a good while: those, or any kind of dates, were a rarity. When he had arrived at your place, you greeted him with an excited smile and gave him a hug, trying not to mind the fact that his arms didn’t wrap around you like they used to.

“How have you been?” you asked brightly, leading Mingyu to the kitchen, where you had already taken out some food supplies you’d be using to make dinner together. He smiled weakly, and you could hear him sigh.

“Busy and tired,” he mumbled while following you. “We practice around the clock, and it’s starting to take a toll, especially with all the performances added to that.”

“I can imagine,” you said quietly, saddened by the fact that he had to be working so hard, but didn’t mention it. Mingyu didn’t reply as he looked at the ingredients you had set out.

“Are we making steak?” he asked, seeming somewhat disappointed, at which you frowned a little.

“Yeah, I thought you liked it,” you said with a slightly quirked eyebrow and turned to look at Mingyu, who still had a sourish face on.

“Sure, but I’m not really feeling it today…” he trailed off and sighed heavily. “But it’ll do, don’t worry.”

Food had never been an obstacle before, so you felt a bit upset at his words, but tried to shrug the feeling off. After all, you were with Mingyu for the first time in a long time, and you wanted to make the best out of it. …Or try to, at least.

You cooked with an unusual silence over you, considering you normally talked quite a bit, sharing stories about your days and just updating each other in general. And yet now there was none of that, and what made you feel the most anxious was that not once had he asked how you were or what you had been up to.

Far gone were his regular check-ups on you and his interest in you, on many levels.

“Mingyu, is everything okay?” you asked, trying to sound as nonchalant as you possibly could while feeling like you were next to a stranger while he was the person who had gotten closer to you than anyone else, and got back a low, disinterested hum. “You don’t… seem good.”

He let out a sigh. “Like I said, I’m tired. I’m fine. Let’s just get this dinner over and done with.”

Your heart dropped at his words, which he said so harshly that there was not much room for interpretations: he felt like your date was a chore.

Swallowing, you continued chopping the cucumber that your salad was still missing. “…Right.”

The dinner itself was just as disappointing as the cooking, and you found yourself waiting for it to end, even if - or exactly because - it meant you wouldn’t see Mingyu for another few weeks at least. You barely talked, and even your appetite had disappeared on most part: you could hardly finish the small portion of food that you had taken on your plate.

Not much after finishing his food, Mingyu emptied his glass and sighed. “I should get going.”

If the night had gone any differently you would’ve disappointedly asked him ”Already?” yet now you found yourself feeling indifferent as you nodded. “Okay.”

He took his dishes away and moved on to put his jacket and shoes on while you took your own dishes to the sink, some food still on the plate. Afterwards you went to the clothing rack, where he was getting dressed, but didn’t get too close to him.

Before leaving and mumbling, “Goodbye,” he gave you a quick peck on your temple and briefly placed his hand on your lower back.

As the door closed behind him, you let out a shaky sigh, your apartment feeling a lot colder than it actually was. Anxious, frustrated and sad tears welled up in your eyes at the realization that the only physical contact you had gotten from Mingyu after a month of not seeing him were a quick peck on your temple and his hand on your back for two seconds.

Were you even dating anymore?

The next time you were ’fortunate’ enough to see Mingyu, the tension between the two of you could’ve been cut with a knife. He was visibly tired and you knew how busy he was, but none of it excused the way he had treated you, whether it was via text messages or in person.

That day, you visited him at the dorm, invited by him, yet you were met with barely anything more than a cold shoulder.

“Hi,” Mingyu said when he saw you at the door to his room, and you stared at him.

“That’s all?” you asked, taking slow steps towards him while he sat by the desk in the room. You took a seat on the bed you could somewhat remember belonging to Jihoon, and fiddled with the hem of your shirt. You felt so anxious you might as well have thrown up, but were somewhat able to keep your composure. After all, it had to be done.  “Mingyu… I want to be honest with you.”

“What’s on your mind?” he asked with a sigh and turned to look at you. You clenched your teeth, then clicked your tongue before finally speaking up again.

“I don’t know what’s happening, but I really feel like… you know, if you loved me, you’d put more of an effort into this relationship of ours, or what’s left of it,” you said, articulating each word as well as you could while trying to will your body not to shake so awfully, which was rather futile.

Mingyu blinked. “Exactly.”

Your eyebrows furrowed. “What does tha–”

If I loved you,” he said blankly, as though slamming the ugly truth straight into your face.

And just like that, you felt your heart drop, your stomach turn, air leave your lungs, your vision blur with tears…

Something along the lines of the beginning of a heartbreak.

“That’s it,” you said, your voice now shaky and giving away the emotional turmoil you were in, and stood up. Even your legs felt shaky as you walked to the door. “After everything… I’m done.”

It wasn’t until you had slammed the door shut behind yourself that Mingyu started realizing just what had happened, but by the time he had left the bedroom, you were already gone from the dorm. Some of the members had come out from wherever they had been, and having witnessed your rather emotional storming out, were now staring at Mingyu disapprovingly.

“What did you do?” Minghao asked with a pout, his eyebrows in a frown.

Mingyu ran his fingers through his hair and sighed exasperatedly. “Something really stupid.”

“No kidding,” Seungkwan mumbled in dismay and shook his head. Some of the others mumbled something in agreement, and in the end Mingyu groaned and locked himself up in his bedroom.

How had things ended up like that?

You hated going back home, because for most of the journey, there were tears streaming down your cheeks, which attracted way more attention than you wanted on yourself in that moment.

You felt sick to your stomach, your heart was aching, you were cold and shaky, and most annoyingly, your mind wouldn’t stop replaying some of the best memories you had of your relationship with Mingyu.

All of the times he had smiled at you while hugging you, or cuddled you peacefully, or teased you and said he loved you right after, or leaned down to press the softest of kisses to your lips…

“I hate him,” you said through your tears when you locked the door to your apartment behind yourself and threw your bag and jacket to the floor, not caring where they ended up, and toed your shoes off.

Almost blindly, you went to your bed, got under the blankets and grabbed the extra pillow you had lying around, hugging it tight to your chest.

It didn’t stop the ache nor did it make you feel particularly better, but it did give you the tiniest sense of comfort.

Some time later, you heard your phone ring, and upon checking it, saw that it was Mingyu.

Wincing, you declined his call and turned your phone off before returning to hugging your pillow, which you still held close to yourself when you fell asleep around half an hour later, your tears having stained your cheeks and your eyes annoyingly puffy already.

The last thought before you drifted off to sleep was that you should’ve known it wouldn’t be easy to date an idol.

You should’ve known that you were bound to get hurt.

Days rolled by one by one, and with you having blocked Mingyu in just about every platform you could think of, you were slowly starting to feel a bit more at ease.

You still winced whenever there was something that reminded you of him - which was awfully many things, really - but at least you didn’t have to witness his attempts of contacting you, and finally it felt like a good thing that he was too busy to drop by.

During the first few days, you collected most of his things that had in one way or another ended up at your place, into a box. It wasn’t that many things, really: mostly some pieces of clothing or jewelry, some CDs or scents, among everything else.

It was more and more frequently that you found yourself looking out of the window and getting lost in your thoughts, the main one revolving around how much it hurt to hear someone you had loved for so long suddenly say “If I loved you”.

You couldn’t help but wonder when the feeling had first died.

Whether it was because you were drained from energy or because the ringing of your doorbell brought you back to reality from one of such journeys to your thoughts, you completely forgot about the possibility of the visitor being someone you didn’t want to see as you went to the door.

And indeed, as soon as you opened the door, you were met with Mingyu, holding a bouquet of your favorite flowers and looking almost as horrendous as you were.

“Y/N, I want to ta–”

The sight had made your heart skip a beat, and definitely not in a good way, and suddenly you went from feeling nice and calm to full blown anxiety as you shut the door.

“Go away,” you said through the door, holding your hands against the wood as if you were trying to prevent Mingyu from opening it, despite the door being locked already.

“I’m sorry,” Mingyu said, and it hurt you more than you wanted it to when you heard him sniffle. “I’ve been so stupid and I’m so sorry… I shouldn’t have–”

“That’s right,” you said through your own tears, sniffling as you wiped your eyes with your sleeves. “You shouldn’t have said anything, you shouldn’t have treated me so badly, you shouldn’t have–”

“Been such a lousy boyfriend, I know,” he continued your sentence, and you hummed in a reply, sniffling. Mingyu sighed shakily, looking at the flowers he was holding. “I got you your favorite flowers, Y/N. I know how much you like them. Even if you don’t want to talk with me, please accept them.”

Your heart beat fast in your chest as you processed his words, thinking about all the possible outcomes of whatever you chose to do next, and eventually you found yourself opening the door, although very slowly.

“…Come in, I’ll listen, but only for as long as I’m comfortable with. I’ve got some of your stuff to give you anyway,” you said quietly, looking at Mingyu’s feet instead of his face. He nodded and waited for you to move away from the doorway until he took slow steps into your apartment.

In silence, you went to sit on your couch, and a bit awkwardly, Mingyu brought the flowers closer to you. “So… these are for you.”

“Thanks,” you mumbled and looked at the flowers, cursing the fact that they were the very same ones he had somehow managed to give you on your first date as tears welled up in your eyes again, and you had to wipe them away.

Without much consideration, Mingyu got an arm around you and pulled you close, placing his lips to the top of your head.

And as much as you wanted to stay strong and pull away, it was an undeniable fact that Mingyu’s arms were one of your absolute favorite places to be, and in that moment that was right where you needed to be.

“I love you,” Mingyu whispered, and you could feel his tears fall onto your head. “I’m so sorry about everything.”

You nodded and weakly clung onto the sweater he was wearing while holding the flowers on your lap.

“You should be,” you muttered, and slowly lifted your face, tainted with tears, much like Mingyu’s. Your lips quivered and your voice wavered as you spoke. “You broke my heart.”

“I know,” Mingyu said, his lips forming an involuntary pout. “And I’m so sorry.”

You hid your face in his chest for a while, trying to calm down while a surprisingly comfortable silence hung over you.

“If… if you’d let me, I’d like to help you fix it, too,” Mingyu said suddenly, his voice quiet yet still emotional. You bit on your lower lip.

“You can try,” you whispered, sighing. “I’ll let you try.”

“Thank you,” he merely breathed and hugged you close.

You hadn’t forgiven him, no, but you were willing to see how things would play out if you did let him, indeed, try. If it got too much, you could always end it.

But for the time being, you wanted to enjoy the comfort of his embrace, which you had missed more than you could express with words, after months and months of not experiencing it.

“I’ve missed this,” Mingyu noted quietly, his hand stroking your arm soothingly. You hummed. “I’ll make sure that things will change.”

Nodding slowly, you sighed and relaxed against him.

“I’m tired,” you said, and got an amused huff of breath from Mingyu.

“You should sleep. I can go,” he mumbled softly, and blinked in surprise when you shook your head.

“Stay,” you said just as softly, and looked up at him, “I want to be with you for a little more.”

He melted into a warm smile as he nodded and took you to bed, and held your hand while you got comfortable under your blankets and fell asleep in a blink of an eye.

You were surprised to find Mingyu there even when you woke up, but you felt surprisingly serene at the sight. Stroking his hair slowly, you smiled a little when his eyes fluttered open.

“Don’t you have places to be?” you asked quietly, and got back a goofy smile and his hand slowly reaching for your cheek, and when you didn’t pull away, he cupped it gently.

“Not today.”
