I think about this a lot: After the big reveal happens, Adrien and Marinette will have to do a lot of talking. The masks give them the excuse to trust each other while simultaneously being complete strangers. Once the masks no longer hide their identities, however, I don’t think they’ll be able to really function as a team again unless they get to know each other, and understand who they both are individually. They’ll have to reform their bond. And I’m not even talking romantically here. It could be romantic, sure, but it doesn’t have to be. It really doesn’t matter. What does matter is that they can’t just trust the masks, they have to trust the people behind them.
They’ll talk about everything. It’ll be scary and painful, but everything will come eventually out because it has to. And I imagine one moment in particular, when Adrien is talking about how his father isolated him, he will just… break. He’ll just give in to all the pain he’s been keeping inside for years. For the first time in a long time, he will let himself be vulnerable. And Marinette will just be there for him, comforting him, letting him know that from now on, no matter what their relationship is or isn’t, she will be there for him as his partner. She will support him always.
