Okay, so I feel I need to preface this with the fact that in no waydoes this post excusethe actions of Katsuki Bakugou. I’m going to talk about him a lot and I just need to get that out there before I start because:
I honestly believe that Izuku Midoriya thinks of Katsuki Bakugou as his best friend.
I refuse to believe otherwise. Like if you watch throughout the series, Izuku doesn’t think of Katsuki in a negative light - he never has.
Even at the beginning of the series.
When Izuku first explains Bakugou to the readers he doesn’t speak of him in the sense of “oh this guy makes my life a living hell.” or “this is jerk I avoid at school.” or even “I used to be friends with him but he’s such an asshole now I can’t stand him. He’s a horrible person.” No. We get this:
He explains that he was once friends with Bakugou - and never once has Izuku expressed an end to the relationship on his side of it. He doesn’t even say that once Katsuki’s quirk manifested that they stopped being friends - no he says “it took a turn for the worse.”, or if you wanna go further since this is the mangapanda translation, in the VIZ translation he says that Kacchan was neither “good” or bad” but once his quirk manifested he started on the path towards “bad”, and in the anime (I watched the dub I will be completely blunt right here), Izuku says “But when his quirk manifested, He began to change.”
Relationships are not always prefect, and it’s something Izuku has been aware of for a very long time. He doesn’t expect everything to be perfect and he simply noted that once his friend gained a powerful quirk that said power began to affect his personality.
So that’s why I guess I look at the opening “You’re making him cry Kacchan, If you don’t stop I’ll stop you myself” scene a little differently? I mean Katsuki and Izuku wanted to be heroes ever since they were little, and they idolized the same person so, to see his friend do something that hurt another person (far as we know for no reason) it probably hurt Izuku.
‘What are you doing, idiot? You want to be a hero, why are you acting like a bad guy? This isn’t like you. This isn’t the Kacchan I know. I’ll step in and wake you up. I’ll show you what you’re doing is wrong. Even if it’s scary.’
Agreeing with your friends 100% of the time, isn’t real friendship. It’s a friend’s responsibility to look out for one another, and Izuku was trying to do that for Katsuki all the way back when they were four.
I mean let’s look at the ever discussed, suggested suicide scene. Katsuki was literally just a complete asshole to Izuku. He told someone he’d known over at this point a decade to just go kill themselves in an all too casual fashion, and Izuku’s reaction to this is for Katsuki think before he speaks. I mean look at VIZ’s translation:
He’s more concerned about Katsuki getting charged with his death, and he is about the actual action of it even being suggested. Now I’m not saying this is right, or a good thing - I’m saying that even after such a thing - a whole decade later - Izuku is still putting Katsuki ahead of everything else.
And this continues to be the case, time and time again.
The USJ just got attacked. They almost died. All Might almost died, but when Katsuki and company show up to save the day, Izuku doesn’t just say “guys” or “everyone” in relief, it puts Katsuki ahead of the others, because Katsuki carries more weight in Izuku’s heart than the others do (mainly because of time, both in the fact that Izuku has just begun to know the others but also because he’s known Katsuki for so long)
But back the concept of their friendship and the length that they have known each other. It’s not like it’s a hidden thing. It’s not like people don’t know. It gets brought up time and time again that they used to be friends. Not just ‘someone I used to know.’ and even Katsuki’s lackys get on his ass a little for being “too rough” with Izuku after the whole suicide comment.
But back to the friends thing. Izuku says it, Todoroki asks it of Bakugou during their encounter with each other in the waiting room right before the final match,
so it’s not something I believe should be looked over. The whole of class 1-A and those surrounding them know that Katsuki Bakugou and Izuku Midoriya have been friends for an extremely long time. They don’t know the circumstances to which their relationship has become what it is, but they are aware that at one time they were on positive terms with each other.
And thing is too, that when confronted with the topic, neither of them ever denies it. For as much as Katsuki grumps and growls about Izuku he never denies being friends with him.
I mean, look at this:
The famous “Deku Scene”, I know, but instead of focusing on that, look at it from another perspective. Katsuki came up with a nickname for him with a horrible meaning, yes, and you can see little Izuku standing there telling him to stop but I see it more as the start of the downhill slope. They were friends and now that same friend is starting to be a jerk and Izuku doesn’t understand why. He still cares about Katsuki, he still holds him in honest concern, but he just doesn’t understand why his best (and only) friend (at the time) is being so mean.
I mean, ever since the beginning all Izuku has ever shown for Katsuki was true honest concern. From the falling incident:
to kicking him in the face despite Katsuki demanding that he fight him.
Even when Katsuki demands that Izuku not worry about him, we all know it’s impossible. Izuku cares too much about Katsuki to not worry about him. He’s been worrying over him since they were four why would he stop when they were sixteen?
Katsuki is Izuku’s best friend. He’s going to fret and worry and lose his mind when something goes wrong or he gets hurt or worse. That’s just what Izuku does. He’s probably the only person who’s ever shown Katsuki any gentleform of genuine honest concern in his entire life to be completely frank.
I mean I get that Bakugou’s parents care about their son but his explosive temper didn’t appear out of thin air. Izuku’s concern for Bakugou’s well being has always come with uplifting words, honest eyes and an outstretched hand and Katsuki’s just not used to that.
I think it’s important to remember that when looking at Izuku at his core, he’s a good kid. He follows the rules, stays out of trouble and keeps his head down for the most part - at least that is the impression we’re given at the beginning of the series.
But then Katsuki gets in trouble for the very first time and it’s life or death. It’s the same monster that almost suffocated him to death only an hour or so prior and he just had his entire world shattered by both Katsuki’s far too casual remark about suicide and All Might’s ‘confirmation’ that he can’t ever achieve his dream.
But when he sees the look on Katsuki’s face, all bets are off. All logic and reason, any sense of survival- it’s thrown out the window and he runs. He runs straight into the face of danger that pro-heroes have even deemed is too much for them to handle and he does whatever he can to try to save Katsuki’s life. Cause sure, he’s a jerk and maybe he’s not the nicest guy to be around anymore and he might have just been out of line in the past few hours at school but the bottom line is Katsuki Bakugou is his friend, and he can’t just stand there and watch him die.
And it’s not like he expected to be rewarded for his efforts or even survive the encounter. His friend was in danger so he reacted and did what he could to help.
Because friendship is not agreeing with your friends 100% of the time but being there for them when you can and when they need you the most.
Even when they get pitted up against each other for the first time, the respect for Katsuki is still here. He still doesn’t paint a negative picture for the reader of Katsuki and honestly I don’t think he ever will.
See? Uraraka is the one who is painting the negative picture. Izuku doesn’t refer to Katsuki as “his bully”, in fact he doesn’t even refer to him as Bakugou. He has too much respect for him for that. The difference though between Izuku and Katsuki’s other acquaintances is that Izuku acknowledges Katsuki’s downfalls. “He may be a jerk but... let me tell you all of this other awesome stuff about him.”
He acknowledges that yes, my friend has the capacity to be an asshole and sometimes he is but let me tell you everything about him that’s hidden until that thick layer of jerk.
Without Izuku’s perspective of Katsuki the reader would be left with a much darker picture of the blond. He paints in the light and shows us the hero that he’s capable of being instead of the villainous role the world wants to pigeonhole him into.
Even after all the shit that Katsuki puts him through, Izuku still tries to show the reader Katsuki from the best possible light. That’s what best friends do.
And I mean, even if Katsuki doesn’t share the same sentiment (because that’s another post about Katsuki and this is about Izuku), Izuku cares so so so much about Katsuki and his opinion and what he thinks of him. We go from the first fight, in chapter 9 -
To Izuku completely ridden with guilt because his friend thinks he’s been lying to him; because Katsuki thinksIzukuhas been the one making fun of him. I mean look at Izuku’s face. Once Katsuki started yelling about how “You’ve been tricking me for all these years.” Izuku felt crushed, because ‘No I haven’t, things happened. I haven’t lied to you. I wouldn’t lie to you. Please believe me, I think this is crazy too.’
I mean he went off and told Katsuki the almost truth about One for All out of guilt.
Katsuki didn’t bully him into telling him the truth. Katsuki didn’t even go after him about it, he just left the school and went to mind his own business because he didn’t want to think about it and here comes Izuku ready to tell Katsuki pour his heart out in the hopes of making sure that he knew Izuku wasn’t making fun of him, and that he never had or would. Izuku couldn’t bring himself to tell his Mother but he felt such a twist in his stomach that he needed to tell Katsuki.
And then 110 chapters later -
After Katsuki finally opens his mouth and expresses his frustrations and confusions of feeling like he was the one chasing Izuku and how much it makes him sick to his stomach to think that the one who had nothing was now the one who had everything and even when they were kids that Katsuki had always thought Izuku was looking down on him, this is what we get. Look at his face. That’s shock. That’s concern, and that’s a little bit of hurt too because Izuku has never thought so negatively of Katsuki and in fact it’s quite the opposite so it’s like - how did I fail to show him how much I care about and look up to him?
And he does too.
Izuku idolizes the hell out of Katsuki, even more so than All Might. He always has.
First time during U.A. he’s in real danger at the USJ - who does he channel for courage? Katsuki.
He finally figures out how to use One for All as an extension of his body and decides to train and practice moving in the Full Cowl state - who is he drawing inspiration from? Katsuki.
“Not even moving like that would be outside my reach.”
Not moving like All Might, moving like Katsuki.
How many times has Izuku used Katsuki for reference - every time he needs reference for personal growth. Every time Izuku makes a step forward, it’s because he’s looking at Katsuki and deciding how to make it his own, unlike how he merely tried to mimic All Might up till recently.
But the other things to think about is how Mr. ‘Strategic think things through before I actually do them’ Izuku Midoriya completely loses his shit when Katsuki is in danger.
Because I really think we need to talk about the kidnapping scene. When Izuku realizes that Katsuki was the target, he gave his everything to get past that villain to protect Kouta and to get to Katsuki faster because he was in danger, and when the villains managed to capture Katsuki, Izuku degrades down to nothing but raw emotion:
Isn’t it though? Isn’t it a strange choice of words to just say ‘Give him Back’, and look at Izuku’s face. Look at how torn up he is about it. They took Katsuki. They can’t do that. Katsuki is his friend so ‘give him back to me’. As stated, Bakugou doesn’t belong to anyone but in the context Izuku is screaming in, he does because in Izuku’s mind, get your filthy hands off of my best friend.I mean, The two of them have never been apart at this point and when Katsuki isn’t, Izuku just breaks.
It’s like all the pain he was suppressing in the name of retrieving Katsuki and saving him comes flooding in at once and his entire world shuts down. What just happened? Yeah Kacchan’s a jerk, but he’s here… he’s always here…and then he’s just suddenly….not.
Izuku can’t cope with this. He’s doesn’t know how, and as I stated before the whole of Class 1-A knows just how close Izuku holds Bakugou to his heart (despite Katsuki himself being too blind to see it) because for as much as Kirishima is close to Bakugou and is worried about him too, he still says this:
It’s like the entire class can look at them as see it. They all know how much Izuku cares, and it’s even more so after watching his miniature panic attack when Katsuki got taken away. He corroded. Izuku is normally the one that will find a way, pull through in the end, say the up lifting words and do it with a smile - some way some how but with Katsuki gone, it’s like his world is a fragile as a glass that just got knocked to the floor.
So with Kirishima’s influence, and the ‘your hands can still reach him’ line, Izuku becomes hell bent on getting Katsuki back with the help of the others. He knows the risks - even if he didn’t Iida made damn sure he did - his academic career along with his dreams of being a hero are on the line but that doesn’t stop him from once again, putting Katsuki first.
He’s seen pro-heroes up close and taken notes on them his entire life, he knows what they’re capable of but that still isn’t enough to put his nerves at ease. No. He needs to make sure his friend is safe and save him with his own two hands, because this isn’t just some random person now. This is different. This is Katsuki Bakugou we’re talking about - and when it involves Katsuki all bets are off.
So they manage to save him, and the two don’t have nearly any interaction for quite some time until recent chapters, in which Katsuki has finally started speaking his mind for the first time in for what Izuku calls “as long as he can remember.”
It’s been over a decade and the two of them still haven’t talked things out. They have both almost lost their lives multiple times, and some times in Izuku’s case in the name of coming to the other’s aid. (because and I know I keep saying this - that’s what best friends do.)
I guess I just feel that looking at their relationship as Bully / Victim is looking at it on a surface level without actually acknowledging how the characters actually feel about one another. It’s been 119 chapters and Izuku is still singing Katsuk’s praises, in fact more so than he ever was before.
I think it’s important to note the way Izuku phrases this; (I think it’s important to always pay attention to the way Izuku phrases everything when talking about Katsuki) because he uses the phrase “it was blinding.” Katsuki was a jerk, and he has plenty of things that make him an unpleasant person to be around but in spite of this, his sheer talent and skill at what he could do; his natural ability to just be good at everythingwas enough toout shineall of his negative traits and habits. Basically, Izuku is saying that if it were anyone elsehe would have stopped following after that person a long time ago, but it wasn’t, it was Katsukiand for that reason alone, he could overlook it.
This entire time Izuku has been patiently waiting for his best friend to get his head out of his ass and stop being a jerk. This entire time, Izuku has been patiently waiting for Katsuki to look at what he was doing and think about it because Izuku wasn’t giving up on him.
“I always chased after you.”
Can I also point out that Katsuki is the one person we see Izuku get emotional around? I mean more than crying, but venting his feelings emotional. I’m not talking about Todoroki because that was completely different - that was calling him out on his bullshit where as this is a “why have you not listened after all these years?!”
Izuku is so frustrated because he failed to get it through Katsuki’s thickly layered ego that he still cares after all this time. He’s so frustrated because as Katsuki stated ‘no matter how many times I beat you, you kept following after me.’ - because he cares. Because he looks up to him. Because he idolizes him. Because Katsuki Bakugou is his best friend. Katsuki’s quirk changed him. The praise Katsuki received through his entire life changed him. Katsuki’s strength changed him. Katsuki just got lost on his path and Izuku wasn’t about to fault him for it, instead he just decided to wait for his best friend to stop being an asshole and it’s taken some life changes events on both their parts for Katsuki to think and Izuku to find his voice.
So I say again.
I honestly believe that Izuku Midoriya thinks of Katsuki Bakugou as his Best Friend and I can’t bring myself to think other wise.
Bts reaction to them taking care of their ill girlfriend
Hiyaaaaa could I request a bts reaction to their gf suffering bad period cramps and wanting to lie in their lap all day 💕 thank you so so much
Hi! I don’t think this has already been asked but I’d like to request “BTS reaction finding out you’ve been sick for days without them knowing and couldn’t take proper care of yourself” Probably fluff suits it but I’m fine with whatever comes to your mind for this :D (I went through your blog last night and omg totally worth it ^ヮ^)
Could u do a BTS reaction to reader being on her period and feeling lazy and wanting cuddles? Lots of fluff! I love your blog❤❤
A/N: Guys, I’m combining those since they are pretty similar.
He’ll be concerned af. Although he couldn’t take proper care for you for the first few days, now he was home and he was running from one place to another, trying to bring everything you need, or he thought you need. At one second you just smiled and said “Baby, stop running around and let me cuddle you. That’s all I want.”
Yoongi had several sessions in the studio before he found out that you wasn’t in your piano classes, but home trying to keep sanity form pain. Only then he ran like his life depends on it and when he arrive home, he snuggled you in his arms and gently stroke your tummy in hopes of the pain to disappear.
Junnie will be adorable. He knew your tummy hurts and that you couldn’t sleep because of it, so when you finally fell asleep at 11pm in the night, he decided to do something helpful before he held you in his arms. He did all your assignments that were due to this week and called your professor to let him now you won’t attend for the rest of the week,
Hobi tried literally everything to bring your mood up on the phone until he comes home. You were whining that all you wanted was to lie in his lap and eat chocolate that was non-existing in your apartment. Hobi told you that both he and the chocolate are only five minutes away. Also he promised you’ll lie in his lap as long as you want.
Jiminie was worried for you. He was pulling the puppy expression and was stroking your tummy and then kiss you over and over again reassuring you that everything will be alright. At one point you just laughed at his unusual adorableness. “Oppa, I have my period, I’m not pregnant.”
Tae will put good old school anime and lots of chocolate and hug you, before you two fell asleep. Until your cramps hit and you started meowing like a little kitten. Tae woke up instantly and started whispering sweet nothings in your ear trying to make you feel less pain. But instead of that, you got horny, but period didn’t support sex.
Kokie will also run everywhere doing whatever you want, where ever you wanted to gom he will assist you. As if you were ill. Your stomach just hurted shit badly, but Kookie thought the world was ending, so he helped, however he could. Of course, actually all you wanted from him was to cuddle you, but whatever. At the end of the day, he did that too.
My ask box is opened not for requests, but for smutty confessions. Guys, I love reading those confessions. Some of you are kinky…like me. So, send more in. You can come to me with all your sins. Share them, I’ll listen. Mommy will listen.
“I… I’ve changed my mind about all this. This isn’t a good idea anymore.”
“YOU! You’re standing in the way of everybody’s hopes and dreams!”
“I don’t want to break their hearts all over again. It’s better if they never see me.”
“Despite everything, it’s still you.”
“Ah, the cactus. Truly the most tsundere of plants.”
“Go ahead. Prepare however you want. But when you step forward… I will KILL you.”
“It’s me, [name].”
“Wow! We haven’t even had our first date and I’m in the friendzone!”
“It pains me to say this, but… you should probably never come back here.”
“Maybe looking at this nice lamp will help you.”
“There is nothing left for us here. Let us erase this pointless world, and move on to the next.”
“They thought that he had killed the child.”
“Quit looking at me with that stupid expression. You’re pissing me off.”
“We’re all counting on you, kid. Good luck.”
“Nice day today, huh? Birds are singing, flowers are blooming… Perfect weather for a game of catch.”
“You can certainly find better than an old man/woman like me.”
“I do not know if this is pathetic or endearing.”
“Oh. My god. I didn’t expect you to show up so soon! I haven’t showered, I’m barely dressed, it’s all messy, and…”
“You’re way better at dating than I am.”
“Get dunked on!”
“This is the power that the humans feared.”
“They must be here, playing a joke on me. I’ll just wait until one of them admits it…”
“…You really like hot animals, don’t you?”
“It was nice to meet you. …Goodbye.”
“On days like this, kids like you should be burning in Hell.”
“Remember. DON’T kill anyone. …I can’t believe this is a REAL thing I have to remind you.”
“…Why are you still here? Are you trying to keep me company?”
“You should be smiling, too. Aren’t you excited? Aren’t you happy?”
“Don’t worry, my little monarch, my plan isn’t regicide. This is SO much more interesting.”
“What makes you think you’re in control?”
“Never come back here. You are not welcome.”
“Why does someone as great as me have to do so much to get recognition?!”
“You made your choice long ago.”
“Don’t you realize that being nice just makes you get hurt?”
“So you finally made it. The end of your journey is at hand.”
“I didn’t cry! I just… caught something in my eye!”
“You know what would be more valuable to everyone? IF YOU WERE DEAD!”
“Look. [Name] didn’t come to the meeting today. Say what you want about him/her/them. H/She’s/They’re weird, naive, self-absorbed. But [name] has NEVER missed a meeting. And no matter what time you call him/her/them on the phone… Night, day, afternoon, morning… He/she/they ALWAYS answers within the first two rings.”
“Anything you want to do is important enough. Even something as small as reading a book, or taking a walk… Please take your time.“
“[Name] hated humanity. Why they did, they never talked about it. But they felt very strongly about that.”
“WELL? Are you CHERISHING?! CHERISH HARDER!”
"If you… If you think I’m gonna give up hope, you’re wrong. ‘Cause I’ve got my friends behind me.”
“Perhaps we can reach a compromise. You still have something that I want.”
“Always wondered why people never use their strongest attack first.”
“No matter the struggles or hardships you faced… you strived to do the right thing. You refused to hurt anyone.”
“This is why I never make promises.”
…Why? Why are you being… so nice to me? I can’t understand. I can’t understand! I just can’t understand…
“Honestly, fighting you IS pretty fun… So even if you ARE a sicko, I’ll take it!”
“Maybe you’d be better… at not killing anyone? Crazy idea, huh? Let me know how that one goes.”
“Did I ever tell you about the time [name] flirted with me?”
“STOP PETTING THE ENEMY!”
“Now, I understand acting in self-defense. You were thrown into those situations against your will.”
“You’d better watch yourself, kid. Things are lookin’ real bad for you.”
“Are you ready? If you are not, I understand. I’m not ready either…”
“Oh my God! Will you two just smooch already?”
“Don’t you get it? There’s no such thing as happy endings. This is all that’s left…!”
“The internet! I’m quite popular there!”
“Do you think even the worst person can change…? That everyone can be a good person if they just try?”
“Don’t worry about it. Most of us have tried to kill [name] at one time or another.”
“Wowie! You did it! You didn’t do a violence!”
“Not everything can be resolved by being nice.”
“Don’t kill, and don’t be killed, alright? That’s the best you can strive for.”
“Oh no! You’re meeting all of my standards!”
“Anime is real, RIGHT?!”
“Maybe you’re wondering if I ever get tired of winning… Wanna see my answer?”
“Sorry, I do not have much to say. It was nice to hear your voice, though.”
“This is all just a bad dream… and you’re NEVER waking up!”
“Down here, it’s kill or be killed!”
“I can’t come back. I just can’t, OK?”
“I so badly want to say, ‘would you like a cup of tea?’ But… You know how it is.”
“Would you smooch a ghost?”
“The truth is… [Name] wasn’t really the greatest person.”
“Well, if I were you, I would have thrown in the towel by now. But you didn’t get this far by giving up, did you?”
“You’re not really human, are you? No. You’re empty inside. Just like me.”
“Are you bored? I should have given a book to you. My apologies. Why not use your imagination to divert yourself?”
“I’ll hold victory in front of you, just within your reach… and then tear it away just before you grasp it.”
“Come on! Step forward and let’s end this!”
“Don’t you get it? This is all just a GAME.”
“Are those two robots…?”
“If you have some sort of special power… isn’t it your responsibility to do the right thing?”
“Stop plaguing my life with incidental music!”
“Self-defense? Please. You didn’t kill them because you had to. You killed them because it was easy for you. Because it was fun for you. Do you think it was fun when I found out…? Do you think it’s fun when people’s family members never come home? Is that fun? No. “
“I wish I had eight legs… so I could wear FOUR pairs of hot pants!”
“The more you kill, the easier it becomes to distance yourself. The more you distance yourself, the less you will hurt. The more easily you can bring yourself to hurt others.”
“RUN. INTO. THE BULLETS.”
“I can’t go to Hell. I’m all out of vacation days.”
“They just sort of showed up one day and…asserted themselves. The town’s gotten a lot more interesting since then.”
“Our king is really bad at names.”
“If it weren’t for you, I would’ve never gotten past him. But now, with your help, he’s DEAD.”
“Then why’d you kill my brother/sister?”
“I’ve done everything this world has to offer. I’ve read every book. I’ve burned every book. I’ve won every game. I’ve lost every game. I’ve appeased everyone. I’ve killed everyone.”
“What did you do to him? …What did you DO to him?!”
“…I don’t have the heart to tell her what you did. Do you know how she’d react?”
“You didn’t even need my help, which is great, ‘cause I love doing absolutely nothing.”
“I’m smiling and I hate it!”
“Do you wanna have a bad time? 'Cause if you take another step forward… you are REALLY not going to like what happens next.”
“If we’re really friends… you won’t come back.”
“Did you really think I was gonna be satisfied… killing you only ONE time?”
“I remember when I first woke up here, in the garden. I was so scared. I couldn’t feel my arms or my legs…”
“Even after all this time, you’re still the only one that understands me.”
“Why do I always get the freaks?”
“It’s possible that you may have a problem.”
“What a terrible creature, torturing such a poor, innocent youth…”
“I’m nineteen years old and I’ve already wasted my entire life.”

I really fucking appreciate the artists and writers of Tumblr. You’re all so talented and wonderful and I thank you for every peice of beauty that I’ve ever seen or read. I hope you know that you’re appreciated very much and I hope you get everything you want in life
Despite obnoxious stereotypes that all anime are shonen or moe/harem, the fact remains that it is a medium and as one would hope, under it have appeared some rather brilliant anime that will dazzle your mind with their competence and knowledge. I’ll be avoiding talking about anime based more on mystery and outwitting opponents such as Death Note and Un-Go. Instead the
three anime in this list are ones that teach you about subjects very applicable
to our world or helpful in learning the principles that govern it.
Spice and Wolf
Spice and Wolf caught many viewers by surprise. Advertised
for the fanservicey elements of its female lead Holo, the anime is actually
primarily focused on interactions between our main characters and showing the
workings of a medieval economic system. That’s right, Spice and Wolf is about
merchants, trade, finances, and bartering. It’s not a small theme either. Most
of the anime is focused on it, which makes sense since the male lead is a
traveling merchant. It’s something very close and relevant to him. Given Holo,
the wolf he travel with, is extremely intelligent herself, there are some complicated
conversations between them and many scenarios that you’ll have to continuously keep up with. This
series will be sure keep you glued to your seat with its sizzling romance and
sobering take on economics.
Like Spice and Wolf, Log Horizon may be misleading to some.
It can easily be mistaken for a Sword Art Online clone, when in reality its
focus couldn’t be more different. Really the only element they share in common is that players are trapped inside
a virtual MMO. I’ll add that I personally find Log Horizon the superior of the two.
Log Horizon offers two forms of education. The first is in
MMO gameplay and tactics, which it explains and utilizes quite often,
especially early on. The second form is in its world building. By that I mean
that it shows just what problems could occur if people were thrown into a new
world set by gaming laws and just what it is people would need to devise to prosper
The anime focuses on Shiroe, who relies heavily on strategy when
confronted by the problems in his world.
He uses the gaming laws in order to deal with issues such as a bad
economy, boredom of the masses, slavery, and relations with NPCs. Really, this
series deserves props for making MMOs and real-world problems feel so closely knitted.
Maoyuu Maou Yuusha
Maoyu, much like the last two series on this list, continues
the tradition of being misleading. At first, it can easily be confused with a
shallow fanservice-prone harem anime when in reality it is more about the economics
and complications associated with ending a war. In a planet where entire
countries have come to rely on war to receive the necessary funds to survive, a
world war ending without some alternative is presented as a foolish dream. Our
likable leads and growing cast devise ways to affect the world through agriculture,
currency, battle, and cultural means. Maoyu is excellent in helping the viewer
realize the complicated systems that run everything around us and how changes
in these systems must first occur in order for the changes we want to happen to
ever come into fruition. It’s all displayed in a rather charming way though
which jives nicely with the realist elements it teaches.
I’m hoping all three of these anime caught your interest and
you’ll check them out one day. Your brain will surely thank you. I know I’m
thankful you took the time to read this. Later.
No, really. Everyone needs to know about this thing that actually somehow happened. In the late 90’s, Takehito Koyasu, whose voice you may have heard in just about anything, got three of his voice actor buddies together, Tomokazu Seki, Hiro Yuuki, and Shinichiro Miki, and started a boy band. If that isn’t ridiculous enough, they made an anime about them, partially written by Takehito himself. But the anime is not about a boy band, oh no; it’s about UNDERCOVER ASSASSINS KILLING PSYCHIC BAD GUYS IN EVIL ORGANIZATIONS. And what’s their day job cover? FLORISTS.
It is just as terrible as that premise makes it sound, because while Takehito Koyasu may have the deep, smooth voice of a god, he is not a good writer. But that’s just what makes it even better. Because this is the BEST WORST anime I have ever seen. It has everything you want out of a bad anime: wildly varying animation quality, ridiculous shark-jumping plot twists, over-the-top dramatic violence, and literally EVERY MAJOR CHARACTER has a tragic backstory and wants REVENGE.
Here’s the opening. I trust you people are smart enough to know where to go to find the rest. Just watch at least one episode, ANY episode; just pick one at random and laugh.
Svt's Reaction to their S/O who's secretly an otaku
Requested by anon
Seungcheol- Is it just me or would Seungcheol be super confused at first? “Babe, a package came in the mail? It’s a bunch of manga and anime stuff? When did you buy all this?” He’d find it super cute though when he finds out. A lot of teasing… “Damn sweetheart, you don’t even obsess about Seventeen as much as some of this…” He’d probably be super curious what it was all about. Finds out your next shipment of stuffs is coming at 5:00pm and ends up staying up until 4:00am reading/watching anime. He’s hooked. Now he obsessively nerds out with you about all your favs and y'all get into fights over who’s merch was who’s.
“Stop stealing my manga to read on the toilet, y/n!!!”
Jeonghan- Probably doesn’t understand it whatsoever, but he loves you so he’s not going to complain about it. Unless you’re not paying enough attention to him, then he’ll jokingly take your stuff and hide it somewhere high up or under his shirt. “Yah! Are you in love with this or me, huh?” Always falls asleep on the couch with his head on your shoulder while you’re catching up on the latest and unapologetically fake snores or tickles you to get your attention. Surprisingly takes extreme care to never damage any of your prized possessions until maybe one day when something goes missing and he claims it wasn’t him although you found it under his pillow.
“I swear, I was just using it for scientific research, don’t kill me, y/n.”
Joshua- This dork is freaking the fluff out, he’s always been super into this kind of stuff and can’t believe you never told him so he could have someone to fanboy/girl over it with him. “Have you seen/watched/read this?” “You have to check this one out, y/n!” You both probably have every evening dedicated to geeking out together and making theories, a lot of discussions and arguments over plot, favorite characters, best ships. He’d probably be more happy about the whole thing than you are because now he doesn’t have to hide it either.
“Y/n, this just means we're a better match for each other, more than we thought!”
Jun- Oh my god this boi will tease you forever I swear. But not in the mean way, just enough to make you react in a way he thinks is freaking adorable. And because he wants to make you think he’s jealous. “Wouldn’t you rather be staring at me all day?” You of course tease him back and say no, which he lowkey get’s offended. You always explain the plot to him over and over because he forgets a lot. He wants to understand what he’s watching or reading but also just wants to hear you talk about something so passionately. Eventually he’ll want your attention on him again.
“Babe I’m so much better. Better looking, I’m a real person, which means I can touch you…”
Hoshi- Turns into a little fluffy hamster because even if he doesn’t like it as much as dance, he can appreciate you and your loves. In his mind it’s like, me = dance, y/n = anime. Thinks your reaction is the fluffiest ever so constantly buys you manga or anime plushies. Definitely will watch your shows with you. Cries when someone dies. “Y/n why? did? that? why?” “Soonyoungie, that didn’t kill them, they have powers.” “Oh.” Gets inspired by the manga or anime and creates seventeen’s choreography with it. So next time you guys watch or read together,
“OOO! Remember that choreo I showed you, it was from this.”
Wonwoo- You know this boy already loves to read. So when he finds out you like anime and manga, he’s reluctant. Not because he’s judging you but because he wants to like it too but what if manga isn’t his thing. Ends up really liking some of them because he really likes the plot, character, etc. Becomes comfortable with all the pictures with words. And secretly loves it just as much as you. “Y/n~ look what I got.” “HOW. THAT JUST RELEASED!” “Hehe, when me and the guys were in Japan…” You guys read them together. Always. But.
“BABE, did you read the first chapter without me?? I can see the book creases!”
Woozi- He’s the one pretending to not understand why you’re obsessing over this when he knows perfectly well why. Endless teasing, “Babe, why is there a small plastic person staring at me when we sleep?” Secretly thinks it’s adorable but would never admit it to you. He also loves anime but every time you bring this up he’s like, “what? who”. Denies any kind of fanboying he’s ever done. “nope you got the wrong person.” One day out of nowhere, he makes you listen to this track. “I got inspired while you were listening to that ost, and your love and passion for it made me realize all over again how beautiful you are and I put this together to remind you of that.”
“I can sometimes pay attention, you know y/n, and what I saw, I won’t forget, passion and beauty, something I admire a lot.”
Dk- Practically bouncing off the walls with excitement. Will ask you to explain everything too him with a bright smile. Get into multiple anime and manga but forgets it all. Always wants to watch it to see what’s it about but asks questions. “I DIDN’T KNOW THEY COULD DO THAT” Still fanboys with you, hypes everything up, buys you gifts when he remembers. You think he’s the most adorable ever because he’ll fanboy about something not knowing it at all. “Do you remember this character at all?” “Nope”
“Which one is that, y/n? Should I style my hair like that? Would it make you laugh?”
MIngyu- Protests about it at first, but will end up doing everything with you. Only protests because he wanted you to fangirl about him. He tries really hard to get into stuff with you, but he doesn’t really ever understand what happens. He’s too distracted by their hair colors and outfit choices to pay attention to the plot. He’s willing to bake themed cakes and make other themed foods for you whenever though, keeps dinners interesting. And good luck if you fangirl/boy over just one character too much. That’s going to make Mingyu playfully jealous, a lot of tickling and teasing and chasing around the sofa if you keep going on and on about your fav.
“I mean I admit he’s handsome and cool, but I’m a much better visual to stare at.”
The8- He’d probably act the most indifferent on the outside, ”I’m not stupid, y/n, there’s a life-size cardboard cutout in the closet, did you think I didn’t notice?“ "Everyone has their own likes and preferences, doesn’t change the fact that I love you. So why even hide it in the first place?” Secretly looks at your stuff so one day when you’re talking about your fav otp, out of nowhere he says, “ ______ makes a better couple though.” You both would probably playfully bicker over the best couples all the time. He still pretends he’s not just as obsessive as you are though.
“I love you, quirks and all. Plus if you can still love me after trying to flip water bottles for a good hour or so, it all works out in the end.”
Seungkwan- Is like what is this? at first. But honestly just pretending because he already kinda knew because of Joshua. Just wanted to see you slightly offended because you look cute. He’s going to be EXTRA af though. Goes around screaming character catchphrases and singing the OST’s at the top of his lungs. Cosplays as characters he barely knows and jumps off of chairs and from behind doors to scare you. “Guess who I am babe?” Acts out scenes repeatedly and runs around yelling and overacting as usual. Is fascinated by the costuming choices,
“Gosh for seventeen next concept, we’ll dress up as anime characters.”
Vernon- Finds it hella hilarious because he fanboys over stuff all the time and now he knows you do too. Y'all now both have your own fandoms that you always obsess over and neither of you want to get into the other’s. “A new episode comes out tonight!” “I already called dibs on the tv though!” A lot of tickle fights to see who gets the tv. He thinks it’s great that you have obsessions like he does and although you both aren’t really interested in each other’s fandoms, y'all fangirl/boy together. Also steals your fav character body pillow to snuggle with.
“I don’t know who this is, but if you want it back y/n, you’re going to have to take its place.”
Dino- This cutie is a confused marshmallow. He’s really respectful of your interests though, and never refuses you when you ask him to watch something with you. He can’t help it, you’re too cute to refuse. He, like Minghao, wouldn’t understand why you had to hide it though. He’ll drag you out to stores he researched and ask you to pick out all your favs, and then just listens to you rant about certain issues or episodes or characters. He loves listening to you go on and on about it and out of curiosity ask you to point out stuff in shops and explain the whole plot to him.
“SO you’re telling me, that there are like 60 characters you have to keep track of? How?”
I just wanted to emphasize the fact that Killing Stalking is a fucking comic, which means it is not real. Sangwoo doesn t exist, Bum doesn t exist, that crap never happened and it is ok for ppl to love Sangwoo and Bum or to ship them or whatever the hell they want. I also want to say that loving or supporting or w/e Sangwoo is doing is ok since in real life , you would never agree with that and you will never fall in love with a killer :D . In fiction, anime and manga, everything is different and it is only natural to like a pretty and handsome character even though he’s insane and such.
Complaining about that is just so stupid it makes me wanna drink bleach .You really have a serious problem. Everyone is free to love them and ship them and anything they want. You’re completely fine if you do so, believe me.
But ppl bitching about ppl thinking that way is the most cringiest thing you could’ve ever done. Maybe now i’m one of these fangirls bitching about stuff but i really wanted to say this. :“)
Was writing up this post for something on reddit, but I figured some people might find it useful here. This is basically my “Japanese Studying” history condensed into survey form. I often get asked how I got started and how I learned and this is basically of summary of how I go about it along with some advice I would give people looking back at my own experience.
1. Out of 10, roughly how skilled are you in the following areas (1 is absolute beginner and 10 is native level fluency):
2. How long have you been studying Japanese?
4.5 Years. 2 in college, got good grades but only studied with an aim of
doing well on the tests. The rest has been as primarily an
Elementary/Kindergarten ALT in somewhat rural Japan, a fairly immersive
setting where I don’t really have any coworkers who can speak anything
beyond rudimentary English.
3. What’s your Japanese vocabulary?
15k+ I’d say.
4. Why are you learning Japanese?
I want to achieve near fluency and be able to use Japanese alongside my
business/economics degree (and hopefully a future MBA) in the business
5. What resources do you use to study?
I use Anki for an hour+ every day while writing everything down with a
pencil and paper except for the most basic kanji and the
I used the first two text books in the Yokoso! Series in college. Pretty good.
The only textbook I have used in Japan is the Minna no Nihongo
Intermediate II Textbook at a local volunteer 日本語教室. It was also good.
Nowadays I mostly read newspaper articles there.
I am a big fan of the Kanken (漢字検定) exams because they expose you to
lots of useful kanji, sentences, idioms, and opposite pairs that you
might not otherwise see in textbooks made for foreigners. I just study
the practice exam books, putting everything I don’t know how to write or
read into a Anki deck. In 2 years I have been able to work my way up
from level 8 to level 3 and am currently studying for the pre-2 and
level 2 exams.
I am fortunate (for my career and language goals) to work in a place
where basically the only English I speak is with my elementary students
in class every week. All my work/meetings at school are conducted in
Japanese, I make my lesson plans in Japanese, and while I do my best to
expose my students to English and international culture, all my time
spent playing at recess, eating lunch, or volunteering afterschool is
pretty much free Japanese practice time with eager conversational
I am a fan of Japanese Vocaloid music and for the past few years my
hobby has been translating and subbing Vocaloid songs and videos for
foreign fans to enjoy. You can find some of my work by looking up
“descentsubs” on YT but unless you are into anime-type stuff you might
not find it interesting at all.
I am also in an English Novel Translation group. We slowly translate
novels (currently Animal Farm) into Japanese. I am the “English
Advisor”, helping with English metaphors, idoms, colloquial sayings, and
archaic grammar, and the Japanese members correct my translations which
is really helpful because while I have improved enough to not actually
make many actual mistakes anymore, my Japanese writing is not at all
“natural” so I get tons of advice on how actual Japanese people would
reword the translations I create.
6. How many hours per week do you actively spend studying?
Anki and Kanken studying usually adds up to about 14 hours a week. I
spend a good 4-5 hours on my translating hobby, a few hours reading, and
another 3-4 hours at my Japanese class or Translation circle each week.
As long as you have a smartphone/dictionary near you, anytime can be
study time though.
7. Do you tend to focus more on reading & writing, or speaking and listening?
I have to do all 4 of them currently for my job, but listening and
reading are the most important. People can still largely understand you
if you write or speak poorly (and I make plenty of minor mistakes every
time I open my mouth) but there are no “easy documents” or “easy
meetings/lectures/conversations” in the workplace, you either got to
know it or you don’t when the moment comes. My solution to dealing with
this is to focus on increasing my vocabulary over everything else with
grammar given secondary priority.
8. What country do you live in?
10. Any final words for beginners and fellow /r/learnjapanese folk?
-Lots of people talk about how things like Kanken or JLPT aren’t real
indicators of Japanese fluency and they are not, but what they are is
excellent goals to help keep yourself motivated and honest as you move
-Anki is an amazing program. It really works and if you stick with it
every day you see real results. I only started using it 1.5 years ago
and I regret that greatly. Back them I was between N2-N3 in level from
accumulated experience, but once I started digesting some essential
lists (JLPT N3, N2, N1 Kanji/Vocab lists, the Japan Elementary School
kanji list, Core 6000) my life changed in a huge way. I was able to
functionally (if slowly and painstakingly at times) read basically
everything in my daily life and work environment. I finally started
understanding enough Japanese to better know what I DIDN’T know. I could
listen to a conversation or read something and understand it to the
point that I could easily begin to realize things like “oh, I didn’t
catch that one word” or “what is the nuance of that grammar he just
used?”. That is when you really start getting on the path towards
-To go along with the last point, BUILD YOUR VOCABULARY (語彙力)! Until
at least the N3 level I do think it is important to go along with a
textbook like Genki or Minna no Nihongo to help understand the
fundamentals of Japanese grammar and build a good base that will allow
you to move forward into advanced levels. But once you are able to
process the majority of basic grammar forms, pure vocab and kanji
rapidly outpaces the usefulness of the grammar points you will encounter
in high level textbooks and study materials, even for N2 and N1. While I
may hear (or poorly try to use) something like ～ざるを得ない or 揚げ句 once a
week, I am constantly bombarded with vocab from even my youngest
elementary students (including bug, flower, food, and objects names)
that really strains my memory because I don’t have the same life
experiences as them. The only way to make up for that lack of experience
is to STUDY YOUR ASS OFF! This doesn’t mean you don’t study grammar,
but rather from the intermediate level on you should mostly look up
grammar when you don’t understand something, don’t waste time studying
chapters full of expressions that you may almost never use. Let your
real experiences start to dictate what grammar you look up, learn,
remember, and use. I never studied grammar by rote for either N2 or N1
and passed just fine using this approach.
-Finally, the only thing that will make these last 2 points worth
your time is to find a way to apply your Japanese on a daily basis. Read
books, read manga, watch anime, find conversation partners, translate
songs, move to Japan, whatever. Anki and drilling are effective but what
they really do is get things floating around in your head that are now
ready to make a real life connection and be truly remembered. Pretty
much every difficult word or phrase I have been able to learn and make
my own to use in daily conversation over the past few years has started
with memorizing in Anki and THEN encountering it once or twice in
conversation or reading, having that A-HA! moment, and finally grasping
what it really means. Whether you are in Japan or not, this
“application”-phase of Japanese study can take all kinds of forms, just
find something that suits your interests. I’m not a big anime fan but I
disagree with some people who say “anime doesn’t teach you real
Japanese”. If you approach anime or manga with a “I want to understand
everything approach” and not just remember words like “senpai”,
“dokidoki”, and “kawaii” you will learn and progress. It really doesn’t
matter, just find SOME way to live and experience Japanese constantly.
-(For advanced learners) Once I got far along enough in Japanese to
make heads and tails of my daily life over here, I couldn’t shake the
ever present desire to want to understand EVERYTHING and not be
perplexed by things Japanese people do without second thought. I am
constantly looking up stuff I encounter. See a sign you can’t read
completely? Look it up. Listening to your drunk boss ramble on at the
enkai about stuff you don’t care about? Look it up while doing あいずち.
Stuck at a meeting or event that doesn’t really apply to you? Silently
aim for 100% comprehension trying to jot down every word that you didn’t
understand. You won’t be able to do this all the time, but when life or
work allows it, turn parts of everyday life into listening or reading
exercises. This “looking up” habit is similar to using Anki; it primes
your brain and breeds familiarity, just waiting for your next encounter
with a newly learned word or phrase to cement it into your memory.
Chances are that if it is worth remembering and you continue to watch
the same kinds of shows or work in the same workplace it WILL come up
-Language is a never-ending process. Learning it is also progresses
extremely unevenly when approaching the language as an outsider who
didn’t grow up immersed in the culture. After these few years of hard
work, I can show my elementary school students how to write any kanji or
phrase in their homework, I can out-do the middle schoolers in town for
the most part as well, I can dazzle adults with my knowledge of 四字熟語
but in the end, I am not native and never will be. I’m still not
anywhere remotely close. All I need to do to prove it is open my mouth
for a few seconds and speak Japanese. But it doesn’t matter. Learning
this language has provided me with all kinds of amazing human
connections, wonderful memories, and a new outlook on my future life and
goals after years of fighting depression through college. Good luck and
