'When you’re black you have to fight': Tinashe, Kehlani and other female R&B artists struggle for attention
Only three black women have topped the charts in the past 10 years. Here's why.
By Gerrick D. Kennedy

Three years ago, all the signs pointed one way: Tinashe was on her way to pop stardom.

In 2012, when she was just 19, she produced two critically acclaimed mixtapes that landed her a deal at RCA. A year later her debut single, “2 On,” made it to No. 24 on Billboard’s Hot 100. Her 2014 debut album, “Aquarius,” was met with critical acclaim and she was nominated for a BET Award.

Since then, the singer-songwriter has toured with Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry, collaborated with Britney Spears, earned praise from idol Janet Jackson and issued two buzzy projects, including last year’s digital-only work “Nightride.”

Yet Tinashe’s career has hit an impasse.

Nearly two years after it was announced to much hype, RCA has yet to release her long-gestating sophomore album, “Joyride.” As a string of genre-hopping singles and collaborations with artists like Spears, Chris Brown and Young Thug failed to produce a major hit, “Joyride” and her young career have stalled.

Attempting a restart, she has learned many things: that pop hits speak louder than reviews, only crossover stars make real money and being a black female performer comes with inherent challenges.

“Critical acclaim hasn’t been enough in my experience,” said the 24-year-old, who was born Tinashe Kachingwe. “The label appreciates it, but the music business, in my perspective, is still so much based on revenue and how much they are making in sales. That’s where it gets really [crappy].”

“You just want to make art for the sake of art,” she continued, “and not have people [care] about a number, first-week sales or things like that.”

My TS6 theories masterpost

OKAY so as you guys probably already know I love making theories lmaooo and I have more than one so I’m going to keep updating this post with new information/new theories until TS6 is revealed!!

10/13/17

So this is my original theory that TS6 will drop on Friday October 13th, 2017, because it is the last Friday the 13th this year and Taylor is hella extra™

ECLIPSE THEORY

  • Taylor blacked out all of her social media accounts as well as her website, store, youtube, and myspace… during an eclipse, everything blacks out for a period of time
  • There’s going to be a total solar eclipse across the entire continental united states in a few days for the first time in 99 years
  • A total solar eclipse is usually a once in a lifetime thing just like this album
  • An eclipse often symbolizes new beginnings and a cleanse, which could make a lot of sense for this album after everything Taylor has been through in the past 3 years
  • Eclipses are extremely emotional/moving events, and Taylor has always been known to write about things that move people
  • Taylor’s tumblr fades from pink to black, which again is in a sense what happens during a solar eclipse: the light fades away to black
  • Taylor has posted several pictures while wearing stars on her outfits, as well as her star flash tattoo. Also, the newest TSNow promo from Taylor Nation looks kinda spacey.
  • Taylor sent a CD of 1989 to space and wrote “Going to space!” on it… that could have potentially been a clue!
  • Kesha said she was collaborating with another artist and used 13 emojis, so we assumed that it’s Taylor. However, the emojis weren’t just random, they were stars and meteors (and unicorns)!!
  • Before and after the totality period of a total eclipse, shadow snake patterns form on the ground. Taylor’s first post since the blackout was a gif of either a rattlesnake or potentially a dragon (see bulletpoint below).
  • If the gif was a dragon, it also supports this theory because there is a Chinese myth that states that a solar eclipse is a dragon eating the sun.

MASQUERADE THEORY

  • Social media is just one big masquerade when you think about it, full of people essentially wearing masks and pretending to be people they aren’t, as well as using it for anonymity
  • In that sense social media is also very fake in the sense that nothing about it is tangible and oftentimes it’s superficial, just like masquerades
  • Taylor could have blacked out her social media and deleted everything to signify that she’s done participating in the social media masquerade
  • She could have been giving us a hint by participating in the IDWLF music video, where there were fancy masquerade masks present

TIME THEORY

  • TS6 could be about time, or in a sense the lack of time… maybe the 13th hour? Because it only exists on the 24-hour clock, which isn’t widely used in the united states, so in a sense the 13th hour wouldn’t exist
  • On one of her posts on instagram the caption was “Til. The. End. Of. Time.” so maybe TS6 is about what happens when time ends, or when time stops… such as moments that make time seem to stop or slow down or speed up, or even getting lost in the moment
  • Taylor blackout out all of her social media is in a sense erasing her social media history, which could relate to the absence of time
  • It could also touch upon how time isn’t actually a real tangible thing, and is simply something that we use to explain how we go through life
  • Potential titles could be: epoch, chrono
  • A song was temporarily released on youtube titled “Timeless” (some people think Taylor released it some people think somebody was impersonating her); there’s also a website called timeless.com that says coming soon. The concept of “timeless” ties in perfectly with this theory in the sense of lost time, nonexistent time, or erasing time.
  • Scott Borchetta posted pictures about time on his social medias.

NOIR THEORY

  • So I came up with this quite a while ago, and it was because of the black and white pictures that Taylor had been posting.
  • It could also explain the social media blackout, since noir means black
  • The whole noir genre could make for a very conceptually interesting album/era

BLACKOUT THEORY

  • So this theory isn’t that well developed, but it’s simply because Taylor blacked out all of her social medias/websites
  • It could also have an interesting meaning as to how she could potentially approach social media in the future if this proves true
Queens that should be on All Stars 3 (updated)

Willam: Season 4: Was disqualified from the race for breaking rules, has built a huge internet following. Possibly has more views and subscribers than any other queen that has been on Drag Race. Has possibly the largest music career out of all the queens as well.

Pearl: Season 7: The “most improved” queen of the season. At the start of the race, the judges critiqued her possibly more than any other queen, however she ended up making it to the top 3 and had quite a good chance of winning. Since leaving Drag Race, Pearl has been doing many things with her career including releasing music and being in a video for Vanity Fair.

Kim Chi: Season 8: Fan-favorite. Kim Chi was the most unique queen on her season. Her aesthetic combines Anime, Glamour, Doll, and Cartoon all into one. Could definitely go far in the competition.

Trixie Mattel: Season 7: Another fan-favorite. Although Trixie’s style in clothing is somewhat basic, Her makeup is shocking, humorous, and glamorous all at the same time. She has reached several milestones after leaving the race which includes releasing merch, making an album, co-starring in a web series put on by WOWPresents.

Valentina: Season 9: Was the fan-favorite, gained more followers on instagram per episode than any other queen in Drag Race history. Seemed very kind and caring until many other queens on her season spoke of shady things shes done both on and off the show. Her elimination shocked many viewers as a lot of people, including RuPaul herself, expected to see her at the top.

Adore Delano: Season 6: Adore is known as the fan-favorite of all time. She is the most followed Drag Queen on instagram. She even has more followers than RuPaul herself. Was in the top 3 of her season and some consider her to be the “true winner” of her season as she has had a lot of success after the race with both her drag career and her music career, the two of which overlap as well. She will most likely be on All Stars 3, as RuPaul has offered her a position to which her response was “I’m probably down.”

Shea Couleé: Season 9: Shea’s season had many fan-favorites, Shea being one of them. After Valentina’s elimination, Shea or Sasha were expected to win the competition. Shea’s runway looks are always very strong. Shea has already begun expanding her drag career by releasing an EP. Viewers should have a very high expectation for her to win All Stars if she races.

Aja: Season 9: Great concepts for fashion. Serves a very fierce lip sync. Although she didn’t do great in her season, I’d expect her to have grown and be able to do very well in All Stars if she were join.

Naomi Smalls: Season 8: With outstanding runway looks and makeup skills, Naomi was also able to prove that she can do more than just be pretty. She was in the top 3 of her season and was expected to win by many.

Ornacia: Season 6: Icon. Hasn’t returned because it wouldn’t be fair for the other queens to have to compete against a legend like her. Yes queen. Slay.

Let me know who you want to see on All Stars 3!
From Dan’s Rush AMA
  • He’d like to possibly cover Closer to the Heart by Rush in the future
  • His favorite concert of Rush’s he’s seen (out of 11) is the R30 tour in 2004
  • His favorite thing he’s seen them play live is Xanadu
  • He doesn’t plan on trying to start playing an instrument (aside from the bass which he has said he’s mediocre at) because the band he’s got now has such awesome musicians that he wants to focus on being the best vocalist he can be
  • His favorite Skyhill song is Run with the Hunted, and his least favorite is Only One
  • His favorite Rush song to play on the bass is Fountain of Lameneth (but it’s hard)
  • It’s pretty likely that there will eventually be a new Skyhill song or album
  • He first saw Rush in 1994 in NJ at the Brendan Byrne Arena. He’s seen them on every tour since.
  • He’s hoping that next year they’ll be able to tour in the UK, and he’d like to be able to tour in Australia too at some point
  • What influenced him most from Rush is their chord choices, their worth ethic, and their integrity.
  • If he could perform vocals on one song with Rush, it would probably be Time Stand Still
  • His best Rush-related experience was zoning out by himself as a kid and letting their music take his imagination places
  • His favorite Rush albums are A Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres, Caress of Steel, and 2112. His least favorite (though he still loves them!) are Hold your Fire, Counterparts, and Snakes and Arrows
  • The most direct way that Rush has affected him is that they helped inspire him to commit his life to music.
  • His top 3 songs are Xanadu, Hemispheres, and Fountain of Lameneth
  • He started listening to Rush at 13 and he became obsessed with them. He sang their music to himself all day during school.
  • When asked how many Rush shirts he has, his answer was “Too many!!”
  • A Farewell to Kings is his alltime favorite Rush album
  • What initially caused him to enjoy Rush was that it was an awesome sound that he’d never really heard before and lyrics that appealed to his nerdy Lord of the Rings loving self.
  • His favorite >10 minute Rush track is (possibly) Circumstances
  • “ I’m more Jewish by culture than by religion. I certainly believe that there’s a lot to life and the universe that we don’t understand, and I respect anyone who finds their answers in religion, but it’s never been a big part of my life personally.”
  •  His favorite Rush show to watch is one from Rio
  • The song he’s most proud of is 6969 because it’s a comedy prog song, which is something he’s always wanted to do.
  • His favorite part of 2112 is the overture
  • Hemispheres will always remind him of his freshman year of high school. He listened to it constantly.
  • Both him and Arin write the lyrics to Starbomb songs
  • He feels an immediate kinship with other Rush fans. “We’re like a world-wide secret club!”
  • The rush album he feels is most underrated is Presto
  • The first Rush song he listened to was Roll the Bones
  • He would be interested in giving talks about music/comedy/career stuff at colleges or high schools if there was an audience for it.
  • He got into Rush at age 12 because the guy that worked at his local comic book shop (named Keith) introduced him to them. “God bless that man.” Before he discovered them he listened to a lot of Def Leppard and Nirvana
  • Q:  if you were to start your career again today, where would you start? Youtube / twitch / podcasts?
A:  I don’t think I’d do anything differently because even the years of “failure” taught me a lot and allowed me time to improve. Once that spotlight is on you, you’d better be ready for it. I’d say start in the medium that inspires you individually the most and work as hard as you can on it from there.
  • Q:  how do you think the future of NSP has changed now that you guys have topped the motherfucking charts with Under the Covers?? You guys fucking rule and I’m so happy for you and your multitudes of success!
A:  Thank you! We were psyched that our recent albums have charted so well, but I don’t think we’ll do anything differently. We’ll just keep doing what feels right to the best of our ability!
  • 6969 came together quickly when writing it. The video only took so long because it was such a huge jump in ambition and it has a learning curve. “If we do something like that again, things should go a lot more smoothly!”
  • The Pass has helped him through some tough times.
  • (I believe) that the lyrics he’d get as a tattoo are “ All of us get lost in the darkness Dreamers learn to steer by the stars All of us do time in the gutter Dreamers learn to look at the cars!”
  • Q: What would you say is the best dish at Olive Garden?
A: The dish where you get up, walk across the street, and eat at Outback Steakhouse
  • He meditates in silence before a show because he’d get overhyped if he listened to music.
  • Doesn’t have a favorite member of Rush, “it’s an equilateral triangle”
  • Says Moving Pictures is usually a safe bet to start off with introducing someone to Rush
  • He picked Madrigal and Subdivisions for the first UTC because he loves them and they’re easy to sing. “I don’t know if I could hit some of those crazy high notes Geddy rocked in the 70s”
  • He thinks Witch Hunt would be a very good song to cover.  Such a great song and so relevant right now! “Quick to judge, quick to anger, slow to understand”
  • His favorite song to try and fail at on bass is YYZ
  • “ I don’t think there’s any conscious decision to have Rush influence my music, but I’ve spent so many thousands of hours listening to them, it’s inevitable that it just comes out naturally”
  •  His favorite album to work on in his career is what he’s doing now (UTC2 and Cool Patrol) because “we’ve grown so much and finally have a full band!”
  • He doesn’t mind when fans are super nervous to meet him. He was nervous when he met Rush, too, “so it’s just the circle of life!”
  • He chose bass because it was different and fun to find submelodies.
  • Q:  Hey Dan! I’m looking forward to Under the Covers 2. I started writing comedy music and NSP is one of my main inspirations. What do you wish you knew about writing comedy music earlier on in your career?
A:  Nothing in particular really. You learn and you go and there’s no substitute for just doing something over a long period of time. Of course there are things I would change about our early work, but it was the best we could do at the time so I have to be cool with it.
  • “I listened to so much of them [Rush] growing up that it’s in my blood and unconsciously shapes the way I approach music”
  • His second favorite album flops between Hemispheres, Caress of Steel, and 2112 on any given day
  • His favorite story/message told in a Rush song→ Story is Fountain of Lameneth because it’s a beautiful summary of life. Message is Spirit of Radio where they talk about the importance of integrity in art.
  • His biggest influences are Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Genesis, Nirvana, Spacehog, and Gentle Giant (to name a few)
  • He does his best on his Rickenbacker bass but it’s just for fun. “My band already has a bass player that’s better than I’ll ever be!”

“Thanks everyone! I have to go see my family now otherwise I’d stay longer. Sorry I couldn’t get to everyone’s questions but I had a lot of fun. I’d be happy to do this again in the future!
You being fans of mine means the world to me and I promise to keep making comedy and music for a long time! Thanks to you, the moderators who set this up, and of course Rush for being an awesome and inspirational force!”

Taylor Swift, Look What You Made Me Do, review: 'Swift has painted herself as a villain, and triumphed'

By: Sarah Carson for The Telegraph
Date: August 25th 2017

Taylor Swift is a force to be reckoned with, and if it’s taken this long to realise it then more fool you. After a year of near-silence, months of rumours, and a week of trailing serpentine clues through social media, the first single from her forthcoming sixth album Reputation is here. Look What You Made Me Do is a blistering battle cry, no doubt destined to dominate the charts and airwaves until listeners are driven as rabid as the star herself. This is a comeback laden with vengeance.

Swift’s evolution from doe-eyed country angel to hardened superstar has been acutely observed. Along the way, she has reportedly left half of showbiz and, if tabloids are to be believed, a strong proportion of the western world’s single men in her wake.

Foo Fighters talk Taylor Swift (translated from a German interview)

bento: If you could be a different star, whether The XX or Lady Gaga, who would you like?

Dave: I’d like to be Taylor Swift.

Dave: She just has beef with everyone, which is such a she-against-the-world thing. But if these people in the media blasphemous about her, you can hear nothing from her. And then (he makes the gesture for the Mike-Drop), then throws her album on the market. And lets everyone else look like the total novice!

Taylor: She can get you ready.

Dave: Exactly. All you have to do is publish a track on Spotify the day you release your album.

bento: So first rule in the bizz - never begin a small war with Taylor?

Dave: We would never dare. (He laughs, bends over the recorder calls “WE LOVE YOU, TAYLOR!”)

the most heart wrenching thing about all this is that harry is out there, just released a great grammy-worthy album, topping the charts, featured in tons of highly acclaimed magazines, doing a sold out world tour only months after debuting as a solo artist, and starred in his very first film, a cristopher fucking nolan film, and yet he is never boastful. Harry is so humble and he appreciates everyone who has helped and supported him the whole way and wow he’s crying im crying too fuck

Harry Styles pulled back the curtain just a bit on his new album on Thursday (Apr. 13) with the news that the self-titled, 10-song solo debut will drop on May 12. And while the announcement still leaves plenty of questions – why is Harry face-down and shirtless in a pool of pink water on the cover? Who helped him write the songs? – one thing we do know is which producers helped the former One Direction star craft the tunes.

Styles has already served notice that he’s willing to go a bit off the beaten path for his solo bow, starting with the Bowie-meets-Pink-Floyd, Coldplay-meets-Eric-Carmen sound of the first single, “Sign of the Times.” But his choice of producers is also a signal that he’s not content to play by the rules. A look at Harry’s collaborators:

Why Taylor Swift Spent 6 Months Out of the Spotlight: ‘She Felt Like Her Personal Life Was Spinning Out of Control’
“It was draining her and she needed to disappear to reinvent herself,” a source close to Swift tells PEOPLE exclusively

BY MELODY CHIU@CHIUMELO

POSTED ON AUGUST 29, 2017 AT 4:45PM EDT

For most of 2017, Swifties wondered where the superstar was hiding and what she was up to, and now after dropping her first solo single in three years all their questions have been answered.

Between a messy breakup with ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris, a subsequent high-profile fling with Tom Hiddleston and a very public feud with the Wests, “she felt like her personal life was spinning out of control,” a source close to the star, 27, tells PEOPLE exclusively. “It was draining her and she needed to disappear to reinvent herself. It was time to change things up and take another approach.”

The Grammy winner’s scathing pop track, “Look What You Made Me Do,” satirizes her public persona and hits back at her haters, including famous ones like Kanye West and Kim Kardashian West.

“Taylor is very excited about her new album. This has been her life for the past few months,” says the source.

Swift is now “ready to come out of hiding” and is looking forward to sharing her album Reputation (out Nov. 10) with her loyal fans. The star smashed records with her dramatic music video for “Look,” racking up more than 40 million views in 24 hours on YouTube.

“Taylor is very talented and wants the focus to be on her music,” says the source of the entertainer, who’s been quietly dating actor Joe Alwyn, 26, since late last fall. “She is a master at reinventing herself.”

some stuff about keith and lance both loving marina and the diamonds:

  • lance figures it out when he hears keith in the shower one morning singing teen idle beautifully
    • he wants to join in but then he thinks it would probably be weird because keith is naked and also doesn’t know lance is looming outside the door listening to him sing
    • keith sings marina a lot in the shower and lance likes to listen
    • its not creepy he promises
  • lance tries to let keith know he also likes marina in really round about ways so he doesn’t have to admit he listens to him sing in the shower like a creep
    • he “casually” hums how to be a heartbreaker during a debriefing but allura just asks him to stop being distracting
    • he tries singing primmadona in the shower loud enough for keith to hear but he just wakes up an already sleep deprived pidge
    • he tries referencing power & control but keith doesn’t even get references from things he likes and regularly sings in the shower
    • eventually lance gives up and plans to tell him that he just heard him singing but gets so nervous and just blurts out “YOU HAVE A PRETTY VOICE AND A GOOD TASTE IN MUSIC”
    • keith just kind of stares at him confused for a second before going “uhh… thank you?” and going back to whatever he was doing
  • lances is favorite songs are primmadona, oh no!, and how to be a heartbreaker
  • keith says he can’t pick a favorite but the outsider and hollywood are the most fun to sing
  • after lance awkwardly yells at him about also liking marinas music keith awkwardly approaches him and tells him he had his ipod with him when they left earth and ask lance if he wants to listen to marina with him
  • thats how their unspoken ritual of laying on the observation deck floor and listening to marina and the diamonds as they stare up at the stars starts
  • eventually they actually talk about the music and they have whispered nerdy music talks
  • they both wonder if marina has released a new album since they’ve been in space
  • they talk about other music too
    • lance learns that keith likes rap?
  • eventually they talk about other things that aren’t marina and start becoming honest to god friends
  • they’ll have competitive, duet, sing offs sometimes
  • they both agree that froot isn’t her best album but keith admits that he cries every time he hears solitaire
    • lance says the first time he heard happy he burst out sobbing
  • they learn a lot about each other
  • lance will never say it but he knows the reason keith loves marinas music so much is because her songs are pretty much all about being impulsive and lonely and angry and having a broken childhood
  • and keith will never say it but he knows the reason lance loves marinas music so much is because a lot of the time the hurt in her songs is hidden by being dramatic and flashy but you can still hear the pain
  • lance tells keith one night, when they’re sitting under the stars and they haven’t talked at all yet, that whenever he hears I am not a robot it reminds him of keith. dumb hard to reach keith who lance knows is soft under his spiky exterior
    • keith cries
  • in return, one night, while they lay facing each other, a little too close for just friends, keith tells lance that he thinks of lance whenever he hears immortal because that’s how he feels about him
  • lance kisses him

Millie please make one of those amazing posts of yours for Howon too. I love it when non-Howon biased people praise him. Also he deserves all the love but there is still prejudice towards him (thankfully it's less now compared to few years back) So let's spread Holove 💜 - infnthoya

Of course I am more than happy to make a post about our wonderful HoyaYahoHoya! Especially for you @infnthoya !

You can see the previous posts (Sunggyu/Woohyun/Sungyeol) here!

1. DANCE GOD HOYA

Okay but before I say anything else, this performance he did on Hit The Stage with the amazing (queen) Choi Hyojin still reduces me to tears because it is PERFECTION and it really showcases the fact that Hoya can dance in a different style to his usual go-to hip hop moves!

The theme for that episode was This Love and although everyone’s performances were great, Hoya and Hyojin absolutely deserved their win because this was ART and totally projected all this raw emotion and I will never get over it.

Hoya is INFINITE’s main dancer and it’s not hard to see why. Over the years it’s been amazing to see him improve and build on his skills and talents. He actually dropped out of high school to pursue dance, even though his family were against this decision. He did eventually get his high school diploma, but it took a while for his relationship with his family (and his father in particular) to be mended again.

It’s great to see that nowadays, Hoya’s name is often mentioned when people talk about the greatest dancers in k-pop. He is more than deserving of it.

2. THAT VOICE THOOOOOOUGH!

Although Hoya started out as one of INFINITE’s rapper line, he’s had vocal lines in songs for a looooong long time. However, not everyone noticed how much his voice had actually improved until INFINITE’s more recent albums. In 2015 Hoya opened up his own YouTube channel and surprised everyone by posting his first cover - Zion T’s Kiss Me. He followed this up weeks later with an English cover song, an acoustic arrangement of Ariana Grande’s Problem. Although he hasn’t been as active as we might like on the channel, it’s a goldmine that shows of how wonderfully soothing and great his voice is. My personal favourite so far is his cover of 이게아닌데 (This Ain’t It) by Taeyang. But for some nice visuals, check out my second fave (and another English cover), John Legend’s All Of Me.

Then of course, there’s the fact that he got into the composing game just like fellow member Woohyun. The song One Day on INFINITE’s 2016 album INFINITE Only was co-written by Hoya and was performed on music shows during promotions for 태풍 (The Eye). He also wrote and composed his own track 아무렇지 않은 척 (Pretending It’s Okay), which he performed on 4Things Show. This song seriously gets stuck in my head all the time and I really wish he’d upload a full version on his channel or that it might feature on an INFINITE/INFINITE H album in the future. On top of all of this, Hoya has always been involved in writing his own raps ~~

3. HO-ACTOR

One of the first things I watched that had an INFINITE member in it was Reply 1997. And in that (incredible) drama, Hoya played Kang Joonhee. And that character was an ANGEL. He played the role so well, so convincingly. I really connected with his character and Hoya was praised a lot for his role. This is my absolute favourite scene of all time. Excuse me while I go cry.

Hoya has also starred in: Reply 1994 (cameo as Joonhee), My Lovely Girl (alongside member Myungsoo), Mask and as a lead role in the movie Hiya. Currently he is in both Strong Family and Radiant Office. Despite the fact that Lee Howon is an awkward baby, his acting skills are A+++++ so pleeeeeease check out everything he has starred in so far.

4. AND EVERYTHING ELSE!

I feel like I got way too emo in this post, but genuinely I love Lee Howon so much and wish he was my best friend tbh. Here are some more things I think everyone needs to know about him:

  • His sexy, R-rated solo stages. Okay so… these speak for themselves
  • His weird jokes that only he finds funny. Honestly, prime DadJoke material.
  • Hoya’s passionate hard work. Not only does he dance and dance and dance some more, even to the point of injury (that happened because he danced too hard on an existing weak ankle to ‘impress everyone in the audience’) and well into the night, he also worked hard to speak in Seoul dialect so he could be easily understood by fans.
  • Overwhelming love and affection for his fans. Everyone always says Woohyun is the fan service king in INFINITE and while that may be true, Hoya is definitely fierce competition. Just look at how many V Live broadcasts the boy has done, his Instagram stories and frequent updates, and the song he covered as a dedication to Inspirit.
  • His relationships with the other INFINITE members, whether it’s the gag-duo of Sunggyu + Hoya (HOBAK GOGYUMA), the affectionate Dongwoo + Hoya couple (INFINITE H), awkward bros Woohyun + Hoya, brother-like love Sungjong + Hoya…. he matches so well with every member in different ways.
  • Those eyebrows, that jawline…. His visuals are no joke

And here concludes me pouring all my repressed Hoya feels into one long ass post. I really hope you all enjoy it and please love Lee Howon just a little bit more than you did before

For those who say that "Humanz" sound nothing like Gorillaz

So, I decided to check Amazon.co.uk to order the newest Gorillaz album “Humanz”, as I wasn’t able to preorder it. What immediately caught my eye was that the album, that came out just today, has only 3 stars. Wondering what was so bad already about the new album, I checked the reviews. What I saw made me angry beyond everything. Yes, there are 5 star reviews, loving the new songs. But there were also 1 star reviews and they all said basically the same thing - “This album sounds nothing like Gorillaz used to sound. Bring the old Gorillaz back!”

So, let me get this straight - you dislike this album because it sounds nothing like Gorillaz? Can you please describe to me how Gorillaz actually sound like? Because what I have heard of, the definition of Gorillaz is that they have no defined genre of music. Ironic, isn’t it? Please, name me three iconic Gorillaz songs. For me, it would be Feel Good Inc., Clint Eastwood and Melancholy Hill. And whoopty doo, they all sound like they were written by three different artists! One is soothing, other has a sick beat. The band, that is known for their freedom in genres are writing songs in an unusual to them, more modern sounding genre? WHAT?!?!?! THAT IS PREPOSTEROUS!!!!

Now listen, I’m gonna drop some truth on you - if you consider yourself a fan of ANYONE, and you do not support the changes that the artist chose, stop calling yourself a fan. It’s like taking an iPhone 7 and hating it because “Oh, it doesn’t feel like the good old iPhone 3, I mean, it changed so much, all these additional apps and functions, bring the good old iPhone back !!!!1!!” Change is good, ESPECIALLY AFTER 6 YEARS OF THE BAND’S HIATUS!!!! I would be surprised if the music sounded like “Demon Days” or even their first album “Gorillaz”.That would show, that they have run out of ideas and that they are AFRAID TO CHANGE. Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett even did something that many creators, especially in animation rarely do - they age their characters, Noodle grew up from a tiny girl into a grown up woman, and Murdoc went from a nice brown coloured skin to pickle green. And the change in music style makes so much sense, giving the fact that the band was silent for 6 years. It shows, that the band is not stuck to the things that got tons of attention (like Feel Good Inc. or Melancholy Hill), and tries to replicate it, but rather tries out new stuff to make things interesting. For the love of Pazuzu, “White Light” from “Demon Days"album has like, what, 3 words in it? 4, if you count in “do do dodododo” that goes between the actual words. “El Mañana”, other great song, that sounds nothing like the upbeat “19-2000” from a previous album. Oh, “Hallelujah Money” has a weird tempo that sounds strange? What about “5/4”? See, they DO sound like the old Gorillaz!!!

I love the new songs. “Saturn Barz”, “We Got The Power”, “Apprentice” are so far my favourites (I’ve blasted “Apprentice” on repeat for around 6 good hours, when it came out), and I am positive that I will love the rest of the album too. And the name, “Humanz” actually makes sense, seeing how many artists have joined the Gorillaz and put their effort in this album. Some speculate, that the name, “Humanz” means that they are evolving from the “Gorillaz”, gorillas are turning into humans. Changing. Unlike the hipster “fans”, who sit on the band’s first album or “fans” who know the couple of the most famous songs and can’t remember the names of the members. But we, actual fans, who actually love anything Gorillaz related and who know these characters to the detail, these characters, who, although animated and brought to life by imagination, are more “human” than the famous artists you see everyday on the screen, singing songs that 20 writters have put together for them. None two songs of Gorillaz are alike. Not at all. That is why we love these colorful cartoons and the men behind them so much. And if you got the nerve to say that the new album sounds “nothing like Gorillaz”, then you don’t know, what Gorillaz sound like. You don’t know what Gorillaz are and what they stand for - creativity and love for music of any genre.

random thoughts

• Pisces and 12th house natives are regenerated by water. They can charge themselves energetically by the water, in the moonlight or sunlight, sunset or sunrise. They often feel most connected to the Source here, when they’re in or near the water. They may wish to return to this place. Even drinking water in times of mental confusion can aid these individuals, and rituals/spells done near or with water can be helpful as well. Though all of this is often true, Pisces and 12th house energies can manifest as a distaste or fear of water.

• Leo folks often charge in the sun. It sounds so cliche, but it’s true. They glow more than most & it charges their soul. Again, this could manifest in the opposite way. Someone with a distaste for the sun, or someone who is very sensitive to its powerful rays.

• People with Mars in Capricorn are often workaholics. The first one that comes to mind is Lady Gaga. She never stops and puts her entire being into her work, to the point that her love life or personal life often suffers. That’s part of why she put so much influence on family & friends during this last album cycle, because she realized she needed to keep that closer. Funny how this change happened for her during her Saturn return.

• People with Taurus rising or heavy Taurus influence have the most artful & thoughtfully made bodies. They look like sculptures or paintings, often. Libra rising has a similar quality, but they can be so perfectly aesthetically pleasing that it borders on fantasy. Taurus beauty is like a tree growing it’s roots deep in the ground & sprouting into a luscious thing to behold. Libra are the clouds & stars above. The perfect portrait of a sunset on the water.

Hey there! Not sure if you've already talked about this, but I was wondering what you think about Lestat's singing voice? I personally always thought of him as having an almost Bowie sounding voice but with the energy and range of Brendon Urie from Panic at the disco. Idk if you've heard the song Emperor's New Clothes by Panic! but that song is kinda how I think Lestat would sound- I think he'd have a kick ass falsetto voice. Also Ave Cesaria by Stromae is a good example in terms of French music

Hello hello~~~ This post got very long! It’s a big question!

I guess I haven’t talked about Lestat’s singing voice bc I can’t find it, but YES, #headcanon accepted, Lestat would have a kick ass falsetto voice!

I just drafted this post and it’s too long, so much more can be written and more vids could have been featured, but I’ve spen

The short answer: As with Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so is music in the ear of the beholder, and your idea of Lestat’s voice is as valid as anyone else’s. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

I’m gonna offer a few responses on this, from AR, from canon, from a mutual VC fan friend of mine, and then respond to your suggestions. I had to make a cut bc the post was getting long.

SO, AR has said, on several occasions, that Bon Jovi was a big influence on Prince Lestat. She even dedicated Prince Lestat to Bon Jovi (as one of her muses). [X]

I also seem to recall Lestat mentioning a love for Bruce Springsteen in canon, but that might have been fanon. In QOTD, Baby Jenks says Lestat sings like the Boss:

Baby Jenks did love the Vampire Lestat’s music,… Yes sir, that was the one she loved… It wasn’t the words that got to her, it was the way he sang it, groaning like Bruce Springsteen into the mike and making it just break your heart.

I’m on Fire, the lyrics and the way he sings it, seem very Lestatuesque to me. Try Dancing in the Dark, also very Lestatuesque to me…

Thanks @sanguinivora for linking me to this Vulture interview (12/1/2010)! AR answers the question:

What do you think Lestat’s band would sound like now?

Well, it always sounded to me like Jim Morrison. That was the band I based it on — Jim Morrison’s voice, physical beauty, and the sound of that band in a song like “L.A. Woman.” That’s how I imagined Lestat’s band sounding. I don’t know a lot about rock music right at this moment; I haven’t listened to a stadium band in a while. I don’t know the latest stuff. I really don’t know. The main thing in emphasizing Morrison is that I’m emphasizing hard rock. It’s really acid rock. It’s not lightweight rock music and there has to be a good voice at the helm. Morrison had an exceptionally good voice for a rock singer. But modernizing it? Sure, whatever. Bring it on.

We have been so fucking privileged that I really am starting to think it’s making y'all not be able to see the shit from the clay.

Taylor didn’t have to do any of what she’s done for us but she did and she’s chosen to because she actually wants to. Just because she has to change now for her own safety/sanity/album vision doesn’t mean she owes us as a damn thing.

Would it be nice if she could still walk through crowds and give hugs? Sure. Wouldn’t it be awesome if she could spend hours doing M&Gs???? Of course. But it just isn’t feasible anymore.

She’s not disconnecting from us for fucks sake, she’s just a massive global super star now. Either the job gives or her sanity does and I know damn well which one I’d rather. Anyone who disagrees needs a reality check.

I question how much you can truly actually love Taylor if you don’t see that her safety/happiness is all that should matter here.

Taylor Swift was a person long before she was your idol.

Ok that’s all the tea I got.

I’m going to attempt to recap Duchovny in Boston day (February 22, 2017.) Warning: this could get long and sappy because it’s 3 AM and I’m just brain dumping. Under a cut…
