thinking before bed

iilesgemeauxii  asked:

I really liked your awkward Hanzo comics~ Could you make one where McCree compliments his hair (particularly the white little hair-wings part thing) and the next day someone (Genji? Symm?) finds him with a little smile trying extra hard to make them perfect? (not in a snooty/prideful way. more of a "i hope they look good today maybe he'll talk to me again" way) I am not sure if I'm allowed to make requests/suggestions so i hope this does not come off as pushy~ '3' Welp, 25 letters left so this -

im super glad you liked it omg thank yOU!!! i am 1000% down for requests & suggestions hehe there u go!!!

Morning After featuring Amelia in Wednesday’s Shirt

REMEMBER THAT IT’S VERY IMPORTANT TO UPDATE YOUR OLD REFERENCE SHEETS OF YOUR CHARACTERS.

While they might seem like a good reference, despite being a few years old (thinking you can always improve whatever mistakes you did in the past), despite that you don’t think the drawing looks bad… It is, after all, your reference, and your art will be influenced by it. To the left of the top picture is what my drawing of Lucis ended up looking like after taking the bottom picture, my old ref, as reference. I got frustrated, thinking why did he never end up looking right, especially as of late. He is, after all, a character I’m well familiar with, so why would he suddenly be difficult to draw?

Then it struck me. It wasn’t that he suddenly got harder to draw — but that my old source was outdated. Not only has he gone through some major development as a character, but my art style has changed. There are errors I had not thought about before because I either did not know about them, didn’t know how to fix it or simply because I was less developed as an artist. So how do you fix it? Do you just re-draw a reference?

No. Before  you simply re-draw a reference — study the character. And don’t just stop there. Do more, and more, until you are satisfied, until you can think of every detail. Until you finally understand and feel satisfied. Be messy! Character studies aren’t meant to look clean and neat, it’s about developing the form and the concept of the character.

After you’re pleased with your result? Re-draw your reference. Update it, knowing that now you have your studies to back you up as well.
