seeing beef between reylos when we already got enough people sending us negative comments from the outside

heyy guess what series i finally watched

me, most of the time: “Oh, TLJ? idk, if Rey and Kylo have at least a minute of civilized conversation I’ll be happy. The imagery, the symbolism, that epic redemption story arc, that’s what I’m here for, y’know?”.

me reading y’alls posts: “I WANNA SEE THEM KISS. He’ll sacrifice himself for her. He’ll betray Snoke! LOOK AT THEM, HE IS SO FUCKIN IN LOVE, FUCKS SAKE!!! CLIFF SCENE SMUT HUT PORG WINGMEN I’LL TAKE IT ALL I DON’T FUCKING CARE”.

me, in the theater, watching the actual movie: “THEY S TARED AT  E A C H   O T H E R  I CAN D IE IN  P E A C E”

For the writing prompt, 28 with andreil please

I…… hope this is the right prompt. I’m pretty sure this is highkey OOC but a sleep-deprived writer tends to make bad decisions.

28. “That’s almost exactly the opposite of what I meant.”

“Watch the cats while I’m gone,” Neil had said. “Be safe. I’ll be back in a few hours.” Andrew could take care of cats. They’re cats, so there’s very little they could really do. Andrew’s pretty sure that Neil’s worrying a bit too much. He knows how to take care of cats—not that they really need much nurturing—but as always, he insists on telling him to watch them every time he goes out.

This time, Neil is going out to meet Allison, who is in town for a visit or something like that. Though the relationship between the original Foxes improved with Neil’s efforts, there’s still a certain antagonism between Andrew and Allison. There will always be that small rift, especially considering how long she had called him “monster” with no care for what that had meant, so Andrew opted out of joining him. Neil hadn’t even tried asking in the first place though, knowing he wouldn’t want to, and if he did feel the need to come along, he would have said so.

The Yagami Residence - The bedrooms of Taichi and Hikari

(A Short Analysis and opinions)

In the first movie, The family is staying in Hikarigaoka and the siblings have a double deck bed, Taichi taking the top bed because it’s dangerous for Hikari to stay on the top. They also have a pencil shaped hanger where they hang the small (baby) bags. After the incident with Koromon, the family moved to Odaiba.

Later on (Digimon 01), Taichi gives up his spot for his younger sister. Hikari probably asked if she can stay on the top part. I also felt that Taichi had a hard time accepting that Hikari was to take the top bed because ‘she might fall off’ then he goes into a ‘overprotective brother mode’ and kept on waking up in the middle of the night, in case Hikari did ‘fall off’. Another reason can be that Taichi did not like going up and down the ladder because it’s tiring.

In Digimon 02, Taichi and Hikari are given separate rooms. I felt that their father’s ‘study/work’ room became a room for Hikari, while Taichi takes the original room. Maybe it was a parent/s decision, or Taichi’s decision but I watched through the series and I felt that Hikari took some time to adjust to this change (especially in episode 13), Hikari’s bed is similar to the double deck bed since it is elevated a bit, it is where she used to sleep on the top part when she used to share rooms with her brother.

Taichi keeps the double deck bed (shown in  Digimon Tri) and surprisingly, he stays on the bottom part, unconsciously he was probably used to Hikari taking the top part and he’s tired of climbing up and down the ladder. The only disadvantage here is that Hikari could easily wake him up in the mornings. I noticed Tai’s room gets messy frequently unlike when he used to share rooms with his sister, it shows which sibling tidies up the room and helps the messy one. It’s nice to see how much the siblings matured over the years.

hey kiddos just want to point out super quick that the intentional vagueness of the current use of “queer” is a real convenient way to obfuscate whether or not someone is ACTUALLY lgbt and that’s not an accident

also trans women are women full stop, so all y'all terfs can leave this post alone probably

Hi! Sorry if I bother...I see you're more active on IG these days, so I was wondering if you're not gonna post your art on Tumblr (or Twitter) anymore. I love your art, thanks for sharing!

tumblr is quite frankly a hell pit and it’s been wonderful not even opening it.  (Not YOU guys just, the site in general, I’m a tired woman) That being said, idk I’ll probably upload them here. Who knows. sorry @_@

For those who use instagram >>> https://www.instagram.com/elentori

Also lately I’ve been having a lot of problems with art theft and instagram, being predominantly mobil, certainly helps hinder that problem.

Twitter I do plan on still using! I just hadn’t had a chance to get to my computer to downsize images yet :D https://twitter.com/Elentori

I know you're writing about them at the moment, but do you have any headcanons for Lara and Jor-El? Especially Lara? Because all the material I find is all about Jor and honestly it gets a little tiring! Thanks!

here is a little bit about sorrowverse lara and jor-el, which may not be useful outside of sorrowverse but so it goes:

  • lara married into the house of el, which was A Whole Thing
  • she was born and raised to be a kind of genetic engineer? her job was supposed to be designing children
  • this is very hard to explain without getting wanky about how i fic krypton and kryptonian society lmao sorrryyyyy
  • (tl;dr they live on a crystalline planet orbiting a red giant only survivable underground) (for kryptonians anyway) (plenty of weird shit lives up top)
  • anyway she broke off her arranged marriage and ran away from polite society to live with Those El People and specifically that big crazy fucker that likes to build rockets
  • her actual passion which she could not pursue until she joined the house of el was basically wildlife biology, using her knowledge of genetics etc to study animals
  • she thinks animals are just. the coolest. her dream is to catalogue the genetic code and probable evolutionary line of as many animals as she possibly can, mapping out history through the life it produced
  • their marriage is also a working relationship, in that he builds drones and she uses them to track and study wildlife in a way that would normally be impossible
  • think about the stereotype of the kind of person who plays a lot of dating sims but doesn’t really like to interact with other people
  • there is an equivalent stereotype on krypton and that was basically lara until she met a dude who did not realize she was a weird nerd because he was from the house of the weird nerds
  • the house of el doesn’t design their kids and jor-el is the peak of what kryptonians outside the house find confusing and terrifying t b h
  • he’s built like a soldier but he’s a rocket scientist and that’s just bizarre, he’s obviously going to be too aggressive to make things, just look at him
  • to be fair he does love explosions but who doesn’t
  • lara doesn’t always understand the house of el but she is doing her best and everyone has been very nice about it
  • even if she really doesn’t get the rao thing
  • what year is it. who still believes in rao. science exists and their planet is made of acid and broken glass lit by a red death orb. who can believe in prehistoric deities at a time like this.
  • jor-el’s got enough faith for both of them and he’s very proud of his quiet cranky atheist wife and if he has his way they’re going to have a million beautiful genius babies

anonymous asked:

do you have tips on taking notes?

yes!! i have many, so i tried to make it easier for you to navigate :)

L O N G post ahead of you, covering lecture notes and readings notes, from a college senior :)

lecture notes:

  • i suggest using a notebook and pen, physically writing down. it’s easier to study, and since it’s using your body, you have a much higher retention rate on your side than if you use a laptop.
    • i have used my laptop for taking notes before. it’s easier to take more notes, word for word, but that’s not always helpful. maybe that’s your style, especially if you enjoy rewriting your notes all pretty and more successfully when you get home. i am not that girl.
    • more notes does not always equal better! it’s good for you to listen actively, selecting what is important and what is not. i take very thorough notes. i take a lot of notes. if you need notes for a missed class, i. am. your. girl. that doesn’t mean i write out everything word for word. selecting details, clauses, and images really helps me to not only keep up, but also to memorize later. plus, when you’re typing, it’s easier to type all the words out without really processing the whole meaning. remember that dense notes are harder to study
    • finally, when you write by hand, you can get more creative with your style. occasionally, i’ll web notes out from one, rather than a traditional outline, bc it makes more sense for the topic
    • it also helps my anxiety! so much! if i force myself to take great in depth notes, then my mind has to dedicate more brain space to the task at hand than to my anxieties.
    • stick to one of these though. it really sucks to get into a test and realize you didn’t study half of your notes bc you forgot half were on your laptop. it’s awful lol.
    • if you use a laptop, get used to how it works first. do u know how much i resent trying to switch from a bullet that is under other bullets (like this one, not filled in) to a main point bullet (the ones filled in). it can be so confusing. also make sure you use a program you like. you can take directly into documents, but i find that i really love evernote, as i can make notebooks for classes, stacks of notebooks for my college, and that i can tag notes with specific classes and topics.
    • if you’re on paper, for fuck’s sake, divide your notebook into sections for classes. keep it all together. those notebooks with handy dandy dividers are so helpful, and they keep you from carrying around 5 notebooks at once.
  • i wouldn’t worry too much about highlighters and such in class. there’s just so much going on then. save highlighting and color coding for later, and count it as studying.
  • don’t worry about traditional outlining styles, with roman numerals or whatever. i take notes very simply. bullets/dashes, subnotes under a broad note.
    • do it how it makes sense to you! maybe that includes different bullet styles, different places for different types of information (on a simple level, i start writing chapter numbers and titles as far to the left as i can go, over the margins, in bold and capital letters. i also usually go over these later in a certain color marker)
    • in some classes it is helpful for me to write the topic along the top of the page in a highlighter (color coding is lovely) the main idea/topic for each page. the classes this was most obviously helpful in were astronomy (COMETS or BLACKHOLES etc) and shakespeare (MUCH ADO ACT 2 or ROMEO etc)
    • it’s easiest to just note page numbers of referenced complex diagrams, as they are usually in your reading or accessible online
    • your style might look different in each class. whatever works.
  • note everything (everything) your professor writes on the board. if it’s important enough for your professor to write it, it’s probably important enough for you to write it.
  • note examples only if it’s helpful for your memory. however, make light note of things like famous people and their science/psych experiments. but in math and such, note! the! examples! and! reasons! will help you so much.
    • examples that have emotion, imagery, or sound are going to be more helpful. applicable examples are most helpful. good professors will lecture you accordingly. lazy ones will not.
  • star anything that the professor stresses or hints will be tested. anything that they say is a major theme or whatever.
  • note main ideas/points/themes, definitions, conclusions,
  • use your tests to help you figure out what you need to know. ask questions about the tests too. in every class i’ve taken, i’m totally shocked at how willingly people ask about exam format and how willingly the professor will tell us how it will work. they want you to succeed.
  • people learn differently! i suggest taking notes in class and later adding touches that help you. count it as study time too. a warm up, if you will.
    • if you’re visual, this might include highlighting, color coding, drawing diagrams, etc.
    •  if you’re an auditory learner, reading the notes out loud and organizing them accordingly, as well as making up rhymes, rhythms and such, might help you. some auditory learners actually like to record lectures and listen to them later.
    • if you learn best through movement, rewriting or making flashcards will be great for you.
  • sometimes professors go really. fuckin. fast. why. idk? but
    • dont be afraid to ask them to go back a slide bc i guarantee, you will be the class hero for asking
    • develop a little bit of shorthand. sometimes i end up using initials, arrows, abbreviations… this is where i got “bc” and “thru” and “u” and such. lol. also, list things vertically, rather than using commas and “and/&/+) it’ll be more clear later
  • some professors you literally cannot take notes on. it sucks. you’re going to need to do the readings and pick their brains on how the test will be to figure out how to prepare. take home tests are your best friend. thank god for them. seriously. get your butt to church and do some worshipping.
  • if your professor puts powerpoints online, save the powerpoints, ya never know.
  • look at inspiration if you want, but remember that notes on studyblr are usually copied from class notes. if you’re too focused on how pretty your notes are, good luck to you
  • finally, the day before an exam, i review my notes that i have (hopefully) been studying. i like to make a one page cheat sheet / study guide on everything i didn’t remember, leaving out everything i understand, memorized, or want to disregard.

reading notes:

ima be real and tell you i hardly ever do reading unless i will be tested on it in class in multiple choice. and im an english student. ye i suck, i know. i dont condone shirking the system but u know what, reading shakespeare or 18th century lit literally makes me want to kill myself. so, im a senior in college, and have barely ever done the reading for a class. the thing is, if you do it right, anything is better than just reading the words on the page and not getting the meaning. dont be a reading zombie. read actively, even if it’s not the actual reading. doing this, i have a 3.9 gpa. so. there’s hope for us yet.

first of all, yall need to do your damn reading. idc how. but due to the fact that a test will be multiple choice, essay answer, a presentation, or a paper, you’re going to not love pulling nothing out of your ass. can be done tho. just be fake deep.

that being said, i’m writing a lot below, but the reality is that if it’s lit, your notes dont have to be longer than a sentence. if it’s a textbook, more.

  • the same formatting question comes into play here, except it’s should you take notes in your book or in a notebook?
    • listen i’m always going to be pro notebook, pro physically writing it out as it helps me really get the information into my head, rather than more passively highlighting
    • i tend to do both, if im willing to mark up a book. i underline and highlight things that stick out to me, and i write them down as well. sometimes when reading literature/essays, if i know the contextual/meaning notes will be interesting to me later, i will copy notes both into my notebook and also less in depth onto post it notes (which also make sweet little flashcards btw), which i will stick into the passage. this is so helpful when a) im reading it again later and b) when we are discussing a passage in class
  • buy used books. it’s cheaper. until it happens to u, u do NOT UNDERSTAND how EXCITING it is to get a book that has highlights and underlines in it ALREADY. DUDE. my work is basically DONE for me. now take that lightly, bc often different ppl will highlight different pieces of information. however, it is helpful.
  • look up summaries. do not simply rely on cliffsnotes and sparknotes, esp since professors are very aware of these. google “title of book, summary, chapter notes, whatever youre looking for” and use the blog posts, the book reviews, the papers that come up. does this method probably take a bit longer? maybe? but it’s easier on my tired brain.
  • if you don’t have time to read your textbook one day and really want to, read the introduction and the conclusion to the chapter, or the first and last sentences to the paragraphs. it’s not great, but it’s something.
  • like your lectures, note definitions, conclusions, and helpful examples, as well as people and dates. if i’m reading literature and i’m deciding to be a smart student i will keep several logs as well. these logs will make it so. easy. to study for your exam:
    • updated character lists, including name, relationships, and anything defining and important
    • scene/chapter summaries, just a sentence summarizing what happened where
    • any quotes or themes that stand out
    • i highly highly highly recommend getting your hands on a copy of the well educated mind for note taking on a range of genres. this is what i had to use through high school and while it’s involved, it’s incredibly helpful.
  • if you’re going to have to cite your notes, note the page number in the margin every time you flip the page
  • the biggest issue i have with reading is when and where to do it. before or after class? always ask your professor if they do not tell you. where in your notebooks? i always do it on the next blank page bc leaving space stresses me the fuck out. make notes on the top of your pages of corresponding lectures/readings.

for both lectures and readings i really really really suggest either having something to drink or something to snack on (think fruit, loose nuts, m&ms. small loose things rather than things u bite? idk they just last longer?)

okay i hope this was somewhat helpful even tho it’s an incredibly longwinded post. it seems like a lot, but the reality is that while i take a lot of notes, i don’t make them complicated, i don’t have rules, i just do what feels right in the moment. they’re not at all stressful. just take it easy and do whatever works for you :)

if anyone has other tips, feel free to reply :)

a psa on whitewashing in the soc fandom

this post could apply to everything, but i’m going to focus on whitewashing in the six of crows fandom bc i’m most active in that one. you’re all probably tired of hearing about this from me but it’s an important issue that’s becoming more and more obvious.

lately i’ve been seeing a lot (and i mean a LOT) of whitewashed inej edits. pretty much everyone is using neelam gill (an indian model), but severely lightening her skin. i hope that most everyone is just applying psds and not realizing how light it makes her skin, but truthfully i don’t know. it also might be the whole grayscale/pastel theme that’s all the rage rn. but either way, it’s not an excuse. i’m not going to link or post specific examples as i don’t want to single anyone out bc this isn’t one person’s problem. it’s a problem with a lot of the soc fandom and other fandoms too.

i’m going to be frank, and this is probably going to come off as rude but whatever. stop whitewashing people’s skin to match your edit’s theme. look at how your psds affect people’s (especially poc’s) skin. i honestly don’t understand why this is such a problem?? just lighten the background to match the rest of your edit. you don’t have to change someone’s skin. sorry if dark skin doesn’t match your aesthetic, but that doesn’t give you an excuse to whitewash.

and another thing, don’t use pics of white hands/legs/other body parts for pocs?? that’s blatantly whitewashing, and while you can’t find as many stock photos without white people, it’s not that difficult to find at least a couple of other photos you can use.

here are some links for further reading/info:

and if you’re questioning whether you edited someone’s skin too much, feel free to message me. i’ll most likely respond in 12 or fewer hours. again, sorry if this post came off as rude bc that’s not what i was intending, but pls, just stop whitewashing bc you won’t look at your psds. just stop whitewashing in general tbh. i also ask that if you see an edit, and it’s clearly whitewashed, don’t reblog it bc then you’re supporting this whitewashed edit, and then other people reblog it. i’ve seen a lot of these edits gain more notes than an edit that isn’t whitewashed. instead, reblog those edits that aren’t whitewashed. whitewashing is harmful and furthers the belief that dark skin is not as beautiful as light skin. don’t do it.

types of taylor blogs
  • The Sweet and Simple: Just here to enjoy the music and gush about how cool Tay is. Wishes everyone would stop fighting. Tries to ignore drama and usually succeeds.
  • The Bitter Country Fan: Wishes it were still the Taylor Swift/Fearless era, and everyone knows it. Still bought 1989, though.
  • The Actual Stan: Knows a worrying about about Taylor's personal life. May or may not have her address and/or personal belongings and may or may not be selling them on eBay. Everyone's sort of creeped out but follows them anyway for the info.
  • The Matchmaker: Ships Taylor with everyone she's ever interacted with, ever. Just wants Taylor to be happy. Follows all the tabloids that give "updates" for Taylor's "romances," both real and imagined. Burst into tears of joy when Hiddleswift happened. Probably still crying over "Everything Has Changed" and "Enchanted."
  • The Vacationer: Only on Tumblr when Taylor is.
  • The Defense Squad: Will always stick up for Taylor in any drama. Even drama where she's not even involved. Defends Taylor even when Taylor was probably in the wrong. Will fight literally everyone. Usually pretty nice when no drama is happening but let's be real there's always drama happening.
  • The Salt Squad: Ready to drag Taylor at every opportunity. Claims to unstan her for every little offense and then comes back 3 days later. Everyone's used to them by now.
  • The Tired Gay: Makes wlw aesthetic posts for different Taylor songs. Applies "Ours" to every F/F OTP. Ships Kaylor. Lowkey convinced Taylor is bi. Just wants more wlw pop music.
  • The Zen One: Has been here for years. Totally desensitized to drama by now. Continues reblogging gifsets and edits even in the face of crisis. Seemingly indifferent to everything. Sees fans fighting and is just like, "Yep, same shit as always."
  • The Strong, Silent Type: Never posts anything besides gifsets, aesthetic posts and edits. Never comments on drama... or anything else, really. Everyone loves their beautiful graphics, but people are starting to wonder if they're actually human.
  • The Rich Stan: Has seen Taylor in concert 10 times and owns all her merch. They've met her twice and always has new material the day it comes out. No one is sure how they manage this other than assuming they must have cash to burn.
  • The Mom Squad: Welcomes new Swifties to the fandom. Cries over "All Too Well." Tries to stay out of drama but usually fails. Usually on Taylor's side in conflicts, and goes unusually quiet when they're not. People tend to ask for their opinion on drama because they're the "levelheaded" ones in the fandom (even though they're secretly dying inside).

As much as I love Ellie and Joel’s and relationship - slightly unhealthy co-dependency and all - part of me can’t help but wonder what would have happened if, instead of killing Sara off for manpain, she’d been the one to survive, and Joel was the one who got shot that night.

There’s just so much potential in a tough-as-nails, thirty-two year old Sara, who was forced to grow up way too fast in those years following the collapse of society, tasked with escorting a 14 year old girl who reminds her just a little too much of herself (before everything went to shit that is). And she comes to care about her in spite of that, maybe as a daughter, or a younger sister, or a protege, or even just as a projection of her own lost youth, trampled underfoot by a world that isn’t kind to little girls, even before everything falls apart.

Like I’m a big fan of the current trend of sad dad’s passing the proverbial torch to their murder daughters, but you know what’s missing from pretty much every AAA game? Mother-daughter relationships. I can’t think of a single game off the top of my head with two female characters that share a relationship that is in any way comparable to Ellie and Joel’s. And that’s a huge fucking shame, because there’s a massive untapped market of brutal, angry momma-bear protagonists who’ve been through hell, and will claw their way through it again to make sure their girls never have to end up scarred and hardened like them.

I’m not saying the Last of Us would have been better if Sara had been the primary protagonist, but it would have been an interesting departure from a tired and frankly, kinda patronizing formula. And the more I think about it, the more I feel like we missed out on something that could have been absolutely incredible.

on ur post about slavery AU i get where youre coming from but at the same time i think its important for you to see that not everyone writing all these AUs is american. so like they dont have the same exeriences or know details about the history u clearly know that well. like obvs everyone knows it happened and its horrible but at the same time other people other than black people have been enslaved so when someone is writing something like that maybe they arent making the same connections u are

You don’t get where I’m coming from.

You can’t possibly get where I’m coming from.

Nothing in this message shows that you even began to get where I was coming from.

You showed up to start lecturing me, a Black person talking about what I have seen and experienced in fandom with regard to slavery AUs in fandom and in the romance genre, about what I’ve written. You showed up to make excuses for authors who write slavefics because they might not be from the US but like… you think you get where I’m coming from?

Okay.

I’m not sure how considering that you basically ignore what I’m saying in order to defend non USians writing slavefic because you think it’s important that I realize that.

But why is it important for me to see that not everyone writing these AUs isn’t American?

Why is it my job to care that not every person that writes slavefic is from the US when I am literally expressing my feelings of frustration and sadness? What does that even matter?

Do you think Black people weren’t enslaved in other places? Do you think that I don’t know that slavery is a worldwide institution that is still going on around the world?

Do you think that I don’t know that fandom also uses orientalist imagery and Victorian perceptions of sex across Asia (like the harem) in their slavefic?

Why wasn’t it important for you to understand that intergenerational trauma from slavery is real in Black people around the world and that this was not the time for you to be all #NotAllSlaveficWriters at me?

Seriously, how do these non Americans know enough about slavery in the US to write about the plantation life – in ways that are in many ways specific to US chattel slavery – when their favorite white guys need some sexy slavery trauma, but not enough to understand that it does hurts as a Black person to see how fandom sees slavefic as an absolute non-issue?

I didn’t even say “don’t write slave fic”.

I expressed my discomfort.

I gave context for my feelings: I was watching a documentary about Black people that included, among other things, conversations about how we’ve been portrayed in media from the start. I was in my feelings and feeling upset because of it.

I’m rereading the post now and it is freaking there. It’s so present that I’m talking about pain I’m currently feeling as a Black person about what is for me a Black issue. It’s an issue that fandom has with Black people because it’s primarily the experiences of our ancestors they’re taking to turn into their porn. I’m pouring out my pain and talking about how I can’t bring myself to write the actual nuanced post that I want to write about slavery in fandom and romance spaces because I can’t handle having slavery explained to me –

And what do you do?

You send me a message that at one point literally says “other people other than black people have been enslaved”. You basically pull the “things are different outside the US” card on me. You basically try to explain slavery to me.

Like I know you probably won’t get it (like you didn’t get my first post) but that’s actually beyond rude as hell, yo.
