Arrow boss on lethal cliffhanger

‘There are other consequences’ than death, says EP Marc Guggenheim

Who survived that epic explosion during Arrow‘s season finale? That’s been the nagging question for fans of the CW super series to stew on all summer long, but it may not be as clear cut as who lived and who died.

“A lot of the discussion that we’ve had and a lot of the discussion we’ve seen online is very binary — people either live or they’ll die,” executive producer Marc Guggenheim told EW on our SiriusXM radio show Superhero Insider. “There are other consequences that can come out of what happened at the end of [episode] 523. While everyone is focused on one thing, you know us on Arrow, we may be doing something else.”

In our full interview, which you can listen to below, Guggenheim also dissects the fifth season of Arrow, while teasing a bit more on what’s in store for season 6.

Understanding the species Gentleman

You hear it everywhere these days: the term “gent” or “gentleman” has become ubiquitous in men’s magazines, blogs, and conversations. Videos welcome “gentlemen” and everybody seems to use the word for a wide range of men.
Some say that anything other than the traditional definition of a gentleman is a disappointment. Other claim that a gentleman must have staff and would never cook for himself.
Well I couldn’t disagree more – the definition of a gentleman has changed and for the better. Since the definition of a gentleman is so fundamental to what Gentleman’s Essentials stands for, I thought it was time to explain the way we understand what a gentleman is. For this excursion, I’d like to take you back…

The Origin
Hundreds of years ago, a gentleman was a man of high social position and wealth. Even dictionaries today point to this definition, as well as several others:
1. A chivalrous, courteous, or honorable man.
2. A polite or formal way of referring to a man.
3. A man of noble birth attached to a royal household
4. A man of good social position, especially one of wealth and leisure
5. A courteous title for a male fellow member of the House of Commons or the House of Representatives

So what does it really mean? There is much more to being a gentleman than mere courtesy; traditional acts of chivalry can come off as condescending, and “honor” is a highly relative concept.
These days, the title “gentleman” is no longer relevant as an indication of one’s refinement and character, as it was once assumed to be for men of wealth and title who didn’t have to work for a living.
In our opinion, the term is far more egalitarian, and these days, to say you are a gentleman means you have to earn it. Wealth and power are no longer enough, and in fact, they simply aren’t a relevant part of the modern definition.

Money and position can’t buy you class or respect.

The Definition of a Modern Gentleman
The term is far more complicated, and we think it’s important to shed some light on why and how we use it, and why the definition of the modern gentleman matters.
We firmly believe any man can be a gentleman if he wants to be, but it’s not a small undertaking. It’s a journey, something that a man continually strives to be, rather than a destination. A gentleman is/ has:

1 A Gentleman Has Good Manners: Here, we agree with the dictionary. A gentleman is courteous, polite, and respectful. He says please and thank you, waits his turn in line, and treats others as they wish to be treated. He is an equitable conversation partner.

2 A Gentleman Has High Standards. High standards push people to do the best they can, and gentlemen set them for themselves. A gentleman expects a high standard of quality, value, and functionality from the things he buys to the things he does. He expects as much of himself as he does of other people.

3 A Gentleman is Well Dressed: This one shouldn’t be a surprise. A well-dressed man is appropriately attired based on the season, the occasion, and his own style. Dressing well isn’t a matter of money for a gentleman, but rather of careful curation of clothing and accessories based on his means, the occasion, and his tastes. His dress demonstrates that he recognizes the power of clothes the impression they make, and the role they play in society. Clothes are used to convey a gentleman’s respect for his host, his office, or for the host of an event, but not to shock, evoke jealousy, or show off. Dressing well is a point of pride for a gentleman because it demonstrates his personality and taste.

4 A Gentleman is Imperfect. This may be the most important characteristic on the list. The term “gentleman” isn’t meant to be an unattainable ideal; it takes into account basic human nature, in which we all make mistakes, choices, and judgments every day. The difference lies in that a gentleman does not believe himself to be perfect, but instead takes ownership and responsibility for the things he can control: his actions, knowledge, and approach to the world.

5 A Gentleman is Open Minded: A gentleman does not believe that his opinions and knowledge are complete and unquestionable. He strives to learn, is open to new ideas, accepts constructive criticism, and welcomes failure as a path to growth and self-awareness. A gentleman does not argue purely for the pleasure of being right but focuses on is able to put himself in other people’s shoes for the purposes of understanding an alternate perspective from his own.
he person who cut you off on the highway may have received bad news; a friend may not respond to your call because they are behind at work – a gentleman tries not to jump to negative conclusions about other people.

6 A Gentleman is Interesting and Informed: These days it is easy to get lost in the cycle of sleep-work-netflix-repeat that deprives people of anything interesting to say. An interesting man can successfully carry a conversation about a number of subjects, is interested in the world around him and how it works, and actively seeks to grow his knowledge for his own character building and enjoyment. Hobbies and personal interests reveal his passions and his engagement with activities that are meaningful to him.

7 A Gentleman’s Actions Match His Words. Quite simply, a gentleman makes promises that he intends to keep.

8 A Gentleman Treats People with Respect: When we say people, we mean everyone – women, colleagues, superiors, waitstaff and customer service people. This reflects a gentleman’s belief that all people are created equal; he does not claim to have more or fewer rights than those around him. He is compassionate with those less fortunate than himself. He doesn’t believe that the world is a zero-sum game, nor does he believe that putting someone else down will lift him up.

9 A Gentleman Recognizes the Difference Between Arrogance and Confidence. If an arrogant man who believes himself to be of superior importance relies on his opinion of himself relative to others. A gentleman believes in himself and his abilities independently of other people. An arrogant man must always win to feel validated while a gentleman self-validates from within.

10 A Gentleman Wields Power Purposefully. Though there are many potential sources for the statement “with great power comes great responsibility,” there is an inherent truth in it for a gentleman. If he is in a position of power, he combines all of the above traits to utilize that power purposefully and not selfishly. Not for revenge, not for his own personal gain, and not in a way that tramples the rights of others.

So why does this all matter? It matters because being a gentleman sets a high bar for men, us included, to actively work towards every day. Rather than being a destination, it’s an aspiration that comes from the lifetime pursuit of personal betterment, self-awareness, and motivation.
The highest achievement is to be recognized as a gentleman by those around you, since at it’s core it is an honor conferred only by other people. We use the term gentleman frequently, and we think it should mean something. It’s not just a way to address other men; it’s a statement about who we are and who we want to be.

The Challenges of Being a Gentleman in Everyday Life
While all of this sounds admirable, living up to those ideals day in and day out can become quite challenging at times. When a man is in a bad mood, stressed or tired, he may say or do things that are out of character. In those situations it is important to apologize to others and if it is sincere people will accept it. I know what I am talking about because I certainly have my fair share of ungentlemanly failures.

One thing I want to say about the Arrow finale is a lot of the discussion I see online is very binary, people either live or die and (…) There are other consequences that can come out of what happened at the end of 5x23. You know, while everyone is focus on one thing, you know us on Arrow, we may be doing something else.

A bit of a Pep Talk

…because why not for today.

Aries: Your bravery and spirit can inspire many, teach them that should they feel knocked down, they are fully capable or standing up again with a full and forgiving heart. Never lose that childful vigor, rage, hunger for life, for it will lead you well like a compass. Stand up for those that lack your bounce back abilities.

Taurus: Sink into the feeling of the moment right now with your feet planted firmly on the ground. Move from the past and shield your eyes from the future, for this moment is the most important. The scents, the sounds and how you feel will not warp with time, but stay with you like a melody of a song.

Gemini: The ability to make someone laugh should never be underestimated for its healing powers, to knock the egos right back down and lift the spirits of those struggling. The intellect is a vast portal, and you have the talent of choosing we should go.

Cancer: Though maybe called too much or too sensitive, understand that we don’t come into this world with built up walls and shells, but soft, gentle, fully feeling. We learn to shut this off, although you never quite learnt that. It is something to cherish, something we all should cherish.

Leo: You enjoy the luxury in this life, the fine side of things, but you know how to shower others with the same adoration you expect. Live richly, squeezing every last drop of joy out of your experiences, and mourn when things turn sour. Live life with a full and bold heart.

Virgo: You notice the small things, see the beauty in the details that some may overlook, can see the intricacy of this universe. With this may come anxiety and nerves, feelings of being swamped by so much that you do not share with others, but remember, in the delicate details, stories are told.

Libra: Self sacrifice and the willingness to bring people together doesn’t have to be a weakness, in fact, it takes incredible strength. You are a creative force in this world, someone to be admired and adored, where the willingness to unite left and right can be a gift for our collective world.

Scorpio: Seeing people in their fullness, accepting both the good and their challenges is something to be proud of, not a creature of darkness but someone able to bring others into the light. You lock away sacred secrets, lips sealed if only they asked.

Sagittarius: You embody that stare of longing a child gives a closed window in a classroom, ready to break it and dash before you can be captured, away to the fields outside awaiting adventures. You show us that really, state of mind is everything, and when we see silver linings, it manifests in Gold.

Capricorn: You show us that to strive for dreams is not too far away and that we can do the same, that to work methodically to the top of the mountain can bring great rewards, and great lessons in self-belief. Your humour, support and grounding energy along the way makes the journey all the better.

Aquarius: You break the boundaries and barriers so others don’t have to, seeing them as the cages that they often are. You open people to ideas, to things they would have never even considered before, propelling us forward to the new world. You break the wheels that keep us spinning in boredom.

Pisces: The willingness to extend care to people from all walks of life has left you being called naive at times, too trusting, but without this you seem to whither into cynicism. Picture what the world would be like if everyone could extend their hand so freely. It is a fine picture indeed.

Please help

I have no other choice but to ask for your help again. I really don’t want to do this, but my tablet has died and I can’t offer commissions at the moment.

As some of you may know, I’ve been living with my abusive and emotionally unstable father, but now I’m staying with my mother since Christmas. My mental health has improved a little, but there are things that we can’t deal with alone.

My mother has had an accident at work last summer, and she doesn’t receive any money anymore, plus her request for financial help was rejected two weeks ago. I can’t work due to my social anxiety and depression that weren’t treated for ten years. Art is my only source of income.

My mother needs money for two reasons, and I’ve already lent her everything I could:

- she walks from one doctor to another, treating her neglected health, each visit is paid. Each of those visits and tests are a must
- meds for both me and her, mine cost $50 every two months
- she wants to divorce my abusive father who still acts like a psycho even after we moved out. And that costs. While she may end up not paying for the whole process, she has to pay A LOT to her lawyer.
- the flat we’re staying at hasn’t had its rent paid for a longer time now, and there’s a debt of around $800. Soon we might end up kicked out, since this neighborhood is very strict about that.

I’m asking for your help, please spread the word and donate if you can. I have about 3,800 followers, if only 1/3 donated $1, I wouldn’t have to worry about anything!! Even the smallest amount makes a difference!

My paypal address is zettai.red@gmail.com, and you can find my donate button here.

Please signal boost it, and thank you all for bearing with me!

ISTJs are quiet and reserved individuals who are interested in security and peaceful living. They have a strongly-felt internal sense of duty, which lends them a serious air and the motivation to follow through on tasks. Organized and methodical in their approach, they can generally succeed at any task which they undertake. ISTJs are very loyal, faithful, and dependable. They place great importance on honesty and integrity. They are “good citizens” who can be depended on to do the right thing for their families and communities.

The ISTJ is not naturally in tune with their own feelings and the feelings of others. They may have difficulty picking up on emotional needs immediately, as they are presented.  ISTJs are likely to be uncomfortable expressing affection and emotion to others. However, their strong sense of duty and the ability to see what needs to be done in any situation usually allows them to overcome their natural reservations, and they are usually quite supporting and caring individuals with the people that they love. Once the ISTJ realizes the emotional needs of those who are close to them, they put forth effort to meet those needs. [Personality Page]

INTPs live in the world of theoretical possibilities. They see everything in terms of how it could be improved, or what it could be turned into. They live primarily inside their own minds, having the ability to analyze difficult problems, identify patterns, and come up with logical explanations. They seek clarity in everything, and are therefore driven to build knowledge. They typically are so strongly driven to turn problems into logical explanations, that they live much of their lives within their own heads, and may not place as much importance or value on the external world. Their natural drive to turn theories into concrete understanding may turn into a feeling of personal responsibility to solve theoretical problems, and help society move towards a higher understanding.

INTPs do not like to lead or control people. They’re very tolerant and flexible in most situations, unless one of their firmly held beliefs has been violated or challenged, in which case they may take a very rigid stance. The INTP is likely to be very shy when it comes to meeting new people. On the other hand, the INTP is very self-confident and gregarious around people they know well, or when discussing theories which they fully understand. [Personality Page]

ISFJs live in a world that is concrete and kind. They are truly warm and kind-hearted, and want to believe the best of people. They value harmony and cooperation, and are likely to be very sensitive to other people’s feelings. People value the ISFJ for their consideration and awareness, and their ability to bring out the best in others by their firm desire to believe the best. More so than other types, ISFJs are extremely aware of their own internal feelings, as well as other people’s feelings. They do not usually express their own feelings, keeping things inside. If they are negative feelings, they may build up inside the ISFJ until they turn into firm judgments against individuals which are difficult to unseed, once set. Many ISFJs learn to express themselves, and find outlets for their powerful emotions.

The ISFJ feels a strong sense of responsibility and duty. They take their responsibilities very seriously, and can be counted on to follow through. For this reason, people naturally tend to rely on them. The ISFJ has a difficult time saying “no” when asked to do something, and may become over-burdened. In such cases, the ISFJ does not usually express their difficulties to others, because they intensely dislike conflict, and because they tend to place other people’s needs over their own. The ISFJ needs to learn to identify, value, and express their own needs, if they wish to avoid becoming over-worked and taken for granted. [Personality Page]

Riley Blue

ISFPs live in the world of sensation possibilities. They are keenly in tune with the way things look, taste, sound, feel and smell. They have a strong aesthetic appreciation for art, and are likely to be artists in some form, because they are unusually gifted at creating and composing things which will strongly affect the senses. They have a strong set of values, which they strive to consistently meet in their lives. They need to feel as if they’re living their lives in accordance with what they feel is right, and will rebel against anything which conflicts with that goal. They’re likely to choose jobs and careers which allow them the freedom of working towards the realization of their value-oriented personal goals.

ISFPs tend to be quiet and reserved, and difficult to get to know well. They hold back their ideas and opinions except from those who they are closest to. They are likely to be kind, gentle and sensitive in their dealings with others. They are interested in contributing to people’s sense of well-being and happiness, and will put a great deal of effort and energy into tasks which they believe in. [Personality Page]

Wolfgang Bogdanow

ISTPs have a compelling drive to understand the way things work. They’re good at logical analysis, and like to use it on practical concerns. They typically have strong powers of reasoning, although they’re not interested in theories or concepts unless they can see a practical application. They like to take things apart and see the way they work. hey thrive on action, and are usually fearless. ISTPs are fiercely independent, needing to have the space to make their own decisions about their next step. They do not believe in or follow rules and regulations, as this would prohibit their ability to “do their own thing”. Their sense of adventure and desire for constant action makes ISTPs prone to becoming bored rather quickly.

ISTPs like and need to spend time alone, because this is when they can sort things out in their minds most clearly. They absorb large quantities of impersonal facts from the external world, and sort through those facts, making judgment.  ISTPs avoid making judgments based on personal values - they feel that judgments and decisions should be made impartially, based on the fact. They are not naturally tuned in to how they are affecting others. They do not pay attention to their own feelings, and even distrust them and try to ignore them, because they have difficulty distinguishing between emotional reactions and value judgments. This may be a problem area for many ISTPs. [Personality Page]

Lito Rodriguez

ESFPs live in the world of people possibilties. They love people and new experiences. They are lively and fun, and enjoy being the center of attention. They live in the here-and-now, and relish excitement and drama in their lives. ESFPs love people, and everybody loves an ESFP. One of their greatest gifts is their general acceptance of everyone. They are upbeat and enthusiastic, and genuinely like almost everybody. An ESFP is unfailingly warm and generous with their friends, and they generally treat everyone as a friend. However, once crossed, an ESFP is likely to make a very strong and stubborn judgment against the person who crossed them. They are capable of deep dislike in such a situation.

The ESFP under a great deal of stress gets overwhelmed with negatives thoughts and possibilities. As an optimistic individual who lives in the world of possibilities, negative possibilities do not sit well with them. In an effort to combat these thoughts, they’re likely to come up with simple, global statements to explain away the problem. These simplistic explanations may or may not truly get to the nature of the issue, but they serve the ESFP well by allowing them to get over it. [Personality Page]

Will Gorski

The ESFJ takes their responsibilities very seriously, and is very dependable. They value security and stability, and have a strong focus on the details of life. They see before others do what needs to be done, and do whatever it takes to make sure that it gets done. They enjoy these types of tasks, and are extremely good at them.

ESFJs are warm and energetic. They need approval from others to feel good about themselves. They are hurt by indifference and don’t understand unkindness. They are very giving people, who get a lot of their personal satisfaction from the happiness of others. They want to be appreciated for who they are, and what they give. They’re very sensitive to others, and freely give practical care. ESFJs are such caring individuals, that they sometimes have a hard time seeing or accepting a difficult truth about someone they care about. [Personality Page]

ENFPs are warm, enthusiastic people, typically very bright and full of potential. They live in the world of possibilities, and can become very passionate and excited about things. Their enthusiasm lends them the ability to inspire and motivate others, more so than we see in other types. They can talk their way in or out of anything. They love life, seeing it as a special gift, and strive to make the most out of it.

To onlookers, the ENFP may seem directionless and without purpose, but ENFPs are actually quite consistent, in that they have a strong sense of values which they live with throughout their lives. Everything that they do must be in line with their values. An ENFP needs to feel that they are living their lives as their true Self, walking in step with what they believe is right. They see meaning in everything, and are on a continuous quest to adapt their lives and values to achieve inner peace. They’re constantly aware and somewhat fearful of losing touch with themselves. Since emotional excitement is usually an important part of the ENFP’s life, and because they are focused on keeping “centered”, the ENFP is usually an intense individual, with highly evolved values. I know Shadowhunters don’t get involved in mundane things but as they have to protect the world - THEIR world, I guess they would care about it’s problems. So I was wondering if demonic activity has something to do with global warming or any natural catastrophe? There may be things that mundanes can’t explain because that actually leads to the shadow world. And if I happen to be right, is there something Shadowhunters try to do to fix it and save the world they live in?

Shadowhunters do indeed share the world with mundane humans, not to mention all the other animals, microorganisms, plant life, fungus, etc. If terrible things happen to the planet, that’s bad for the Nephilim, too. But demons are not responsible for climate change, and Shadowhunters are, first and foremost, concerned with the threat of demons.

Wouldn’t they want to protect the world from other threats as well? Abstractly, yes. But there are some problems that cannot be solved with angelic runes. Humans have the power to destroy the world with nuclear weapons, and have for some time, but we don’t see Shadowhunters lobbying for nuclear disarmament. For one thing, they can’t. They are sworn to live in secrecy, and that means not engaging with mundane power structures or politics. While some may be more aware of the threats posed by climate change than others, there isn’t much any of them can do about it.

Shadowhunters are more focused on the demons they fight every day. Their work is dangerous, and their lives are often cut short. They don’t tend to look ahead, thinking about the quality of life for future generations the way mundane humans do, because they know they’ll be sending those future generations into battle with demons, too. Shadowhunters have been fighting what Jace calls “the war that never ends” for centuries, and they’ll keep fighting it. So while they may be concerned about the changing climate, it is not the threat they see as most pressing because it’s not the threat they’re specially equipped to handle.

It’s 230 am, if you know where this alley is in downtown phoenix and want to bear witness to the spectacle that is the savage wrath of Chaos Vortex and fully understand why Im known in over 30 countries as The Dragon Of Devastation in the streets and in both official and underground martial arts fight circuits worldwide, then get here by 3 cuz shit is about to go the fuck down. 2 squads are bringing their 10 strongest warriors to finally settle a decade long rivalry with no weapons… And i set it all up by going to the enemy stronghold by myself to put an end to the fued through one final battle. Why did i approach both sides with this plan? Because unifying warriors, expanding my network of underworld connections, and restoring peace on the streets through the use of honorable combat is what i have always done everywhere I’ve been to in the world. Your either born a fuckin leader like myself or a follower. If you’re a leader, that’s what you should do. But If you decide to lead and others choose follow, then it’s your responsibility to use your clout to enrich their lives regardless of whether it puts you in danger or not because it’s the right thing to do. I exist to empower and assist my fellow humans. That is why i do things like this. On the surface, it may seem to many like im just a crazy adrenaline junkie and do so much dangerous shit cuz i have a reckless disregard for my own life, and to an extent they’re right, but really drives me is my passion to hone my talents. We all have our own unique talents for many reasons, but to me, the main reason we have them is because there are so many way that they can be used to help others. Tonight is another example of how i utilize my inborn talent for hurting people to help them. Open your third eye and im sure you can you feel the energy of my bloodlust emanating through the screen when you look at my pix. As the time for war draws closer my soul grows colder and the ability to grant mercy is now devoid within me. Mother nature always thirsts for blood in her soil, and Tonight we will give it to her.

not everyone learns in the same way.

not everyone learns within the same time frame.

some people may take years to learn a skill that takes others weeks. some people may not learn how to do something until later in life while others may learn it earlier. some people may learn something in one way while someone else learns it in another. some people struggle to learn things that others grasp easily.

this is all okay. we all learn differently. we are all different people who all have different lives and the skills we have, how we get them, and how we perfect them reflects that. you are not any less than anyone else just because you learn in a different way than they do.

May we all live to see each of our favorite actresses of old play at least one (1) gay character

Derek gets a call from an unknown number at 10:27am. It happens sometimes, telemarketers, and quite often for the nannying agency that’s one digit off his mobile. Today is a new one.

“Hello, this is Derek.”

“Oh, hi. Okay. Hi, I’m Stiles,” comes a surprised voice from the other end.

“Hi Stiles.”

“So, Derek, this is going to sound strange, but I’m just about to go in for a job interview in three minutes, and I had to fill out this list of references and I was short a number so I wrote down a random one, then thought I should call it to see if it was real. And it is, it’s yours.”

“So you just wrote down a random number as a reference?” Derek asks, confused and also a little amused.

“Yes, that’s right. And look, I’m going in soon, and getting this job would be really great, and so would you mind if I keep your number on the list? They probably won’t call but I–”

“Go for it,” Derek interrupts. What’s the harm in it? He can cross off that he’s done his one nice thing for the day, and this Stiles is right, he probably won’t even get a call.

“Seriously? Ah, okay that’s amazing. Thank you.”

“What’s the job?” Derek asks, grabbing a pen and paper to write it down. He’s warming up to the idea of doing this fake reference thing. It’ll be a laugh if nothing else.

“So it’s an IT position with Saris and Fehr Legal. System maintenance, software security, a bunch of stuff really, but don’t worry about it too much, I just had you down as a personal reference?”

Stiles asks it like a question, showing some nerves, and Derek realises he’s essentially admitting he doesn’t know enough people who’d give him a positive reference.

“Oh well that’s easy enough then, I’ll just say that I’ve known you for years, talk about how you’re organized, trustworthy, etcetera,” Derek’s been a reference for some of his friends before, he knows the drill.

“Ah, yeah, sounds great. Wow. You sure about this?”

“It’s fine, Stiles. It’ll make my day more interesting at any rate.”

“Wow,” Stiles repeats, clearly surprised by Derek’s immediate cooperation. “So it’s Stiles Stilinski, not sure I gave you my last name.”

“No, you didn’t,” he says, writing down Stiles’ surname phonetically. “Mine’s Hale. Derek Hale.”

“Hale,” Stiles repeats, while Derek can hear the sound of a pen moving across paper through the phone. “Alright, I’ve got to go now but thanks so much, Derek. It means a lot.”

“You’re welcome,” Derek says, smiling at how relieved Stiles sounds. “Good luck for the interview.”

Calm down about Bellarke and Clarke, let’s talk.

Here goes the meta…..

It’s honestly hard for me to even know where to begin with this cause it seems like the writers are touching so many plots at the same time with 4x11 that I’m a bit overwhelmed.

But we can start with this: what Clarke did (betraying the grounders) is not shocking, and it’s not character retrogression OR stagnation.

And it’s not the end of Bellarke either,if the plot from the entire show is anything to go by.

(this is not the “me romanticizing the gun scene, meta.” So stick with me as I try to go through Clarke’s and Bellarke’s plots and explain what I’m thinking )

Here’s something I never see discussed anywhere:

Disabled/chronically ill young people who are able to work but haven’t always been able to (and may still have restrictions), and how that stops them from getting work even now.

It doesn’t matter if they’re able to do the work fine and they have all the necessary skills, because of how competitive the market is now there will always be at least one other candidate with more experience than they do. And this is simply because during an important period of their life when all their peers were out getting some work experience (even if it was in completely unrelated fields), they couldn’t because they were ill. They may not even be able to do what all their peers consider something they can “fall back on” like waiting tables, because they physically can’t. Disability/chronic illness stopped them from getting work then, and it stops them from getting work even when they can now, even when they excel in all other areas you want from an employee. And of course it can’t fall under discrimination laws because no one is actively discriminating - no one is at fault - it’s the screwed up economy we live in that’s the problem, and there’s not a damn thing we can do about it unless we can actually get some work experience that counts.

The spiritual consequences of mistreating others

Few people realise the suffering they can cause someone when they bully, physically harm, emotionally or psychologically abuse someone, or generally mistreat others with harmful words and attitudes. Yet the consequences for these actions are much much more severe than what we are taught.

Spiritual bondage
As a spiritual healer I have found people completely held down by what I call “spiritual bondage”, where they have been so mistreated their whole lives that they are emotionally, spiritually, and physically bound to and by their suffering. And it wont always be huge traumatic experiences. Often times, it is simply someone yelling at them which has bound them to their suffering, or something they brought on themselves by mistreating others. But from my experience as a healer, I have found people with energy shackles, essentially negative energy so heavy and so accumulated that their body suffers as if bound in shackles. I’ve had people come to me with backs hunched over and unable to walk without crying in pain, and yet when the negative energy is removed they can walk again like normal. This is spiritual bondage. And this is the result of mistreating others. If left untreated, it can carry on into the next life.

When we hurt someone, we direct negative energies to them. These negative energies sometimes can be so hateful, so angry and so resentful that they become a curse on that persons body. We curse others without even realising, and today more and more people are mistreating each other without realising the true spiritual nature of what they are doing to someone.
It is not a small thing to curse someone with spiritual bondage. Spiritual bondage lasts for years, decades, or even someones entire life. This type of suffering is emotionally, physically and mentally draining and cursing with spiritual bondage essentially prevents someone from accessing the divine blessings and protection that they need in order to flourish. You are cutting them off from the spiritual nourishment that all of us need and are deserving of.
Yet it is so easy to do.
How often have we yelled at shop assistants trying to do their jobs? How many of us yell at our parents, at our friends or partners? How many of us have suffered abuse and mistreatment? How many of us send hateful messages to others? How many of us manipulate and take advantage of others? How many of us discriminate or harm others because they are different?
Every word, every action you take matters, and has real spiritual consequences, not only on others, but on your own body.

Ancestral spiritual bondage
Spiritual bondage can and usually is also an ancestral inheritance. Not only do we take on spiritual bondage from past lives, but we can inherit it from our ancestors. One of the most common ways that this can be inherited through our ancestors is through abuse or mistreatment from a parent to their child in which the cycle of abuse continues with their children’s children and so on. In my own family, a the of abuse and mistreatment of my grandfather as a child resulted in neglect of my mother whom in turn became manipulative and controlling as a result of her suffering under my grandfather. When she has raised myself and my siblings, we have all grown up cursed with the negative spiritual energy of my grandfather’s abuse. When I had broken free and gone to heal the others in my family, the level of spiritual bondage upon each person has been so damaging and so heavy.

Mindfulness: The fundamental teaching of the Buddha
One of the fundamental teachings of the Buddha was the concept of mindfulness. He begins this teaching by asking us to focus simply on the breath. With regular practice of mindful breathing, we can begin to apply the concept of mindfulness in our everyday lives in more complex situations than just breathing. But this is such an important teaching. Why? Because being mindful of our words and actions allows us to think before we speak and act, which is extremely important when we want to minimise harm to others. While it is normal to feel anger, rage, sadness, desires and overwhelming emotions of any kind, we need to take care in how we express these emotions. We can always choose our actions, and we can always choose our thoughts. But we cannot know the true suffering of others, and we cannot take back the harm we cause to others. So it is vitally important to treat others with love and respect regardless of how angry they make you, because you do not know what curses your hate may place over them.

We live in a world full of war, disease, starvation, hatred and suffering. The best thing we can do to fight is to love others from our heart. This is the best form of rebellion, the only way to bring light into the world if only for a brief moment. Love is a magic that can overcome pain, and we need more of it in this world. So love others, be mindful of the consequences of mistreating others. Love comes first.

Part 2 Part 3

Your free period was always the worst “class” for you, it gave you time to think… to thrive… to hate. Yourself. Her. The person that did this to you. Anyone. Everyone. If you had a chance to hate you would, you had to let your emotions out somehow. Since the second you first heard the news last summer, your hair had been a deep Navy Blue, besides a moment of confusion and anger here and there, flashing other emotions but always returning back to blue. Most days you spent sat out by the Black Lake or in the room of requirements. No one bothered you there.

But since the last snowfall, you’d been spending your free period in the library, sat far in the corner… it was warmer there. Most days you were left alone. Other days someone would try to flirt with you, or just spark up a conversation, but you never allowed it to last long.

Now, you sat waiting for the other students to leave for Christmas break, sitting in your corner of the library, no other student to be seen. That is… until the door creaked open revealing “The Slytherin Prince” and his usual entourage, Pansy, Crabbe, Goyle, and Blaise Zabini. The pale haired boy was talking loudly as he walked in. That is… until he saw you.

Your filthy half-blood mother had to get knocked up by some muggle and made you. Fucking waste don’t you think Pansy?”

“Such a disgrace. You shouldn’t even be a witch, you filthy whore.” Pansy spoke nastily. You didn’t flinch. You didn’t say anything. You just looked at them tiredly, wanting them to leave you in peace.

“You need to leave Y/N. Get out. I need to have a private conversation.” He practically spat his words at you. You looked at him, and in a complete monotone, you spoke;

“Why don’t you just go to the room of requirements like you have been every other night?” He was frozen in place, “I’m quite sure no one will be there.” You looked back down at your book. You heard him chuckle, then you felt your hair being pulled, and your shoulders slammed up against the wall.

“What would you know about that?” His eyes were narrowed down to slits, glaring at you intensely.

“Enough that you should just leave me alone before you give me a good reason to tell anyone what you’re doing in there.” You spoke in the same monotone. His grip tightened and he leaned closer to you.

“You don’t know anything.” He hissed into your ear. His friends looked entertained behind him. You only had to say one word;

“Vanishing Cabinet.” You whispered in his ear, making sure no one could hear you but him. He slammed your head back against the stone so hard you felt the heat of blood flowing down your scalp. He began to speak;

“If you tell anyone so help me Merlin I will-”

“Kill me? It won’t work I’ve already tried.” Your voice did not shake. His facial expression fell.

“You’re your mothers’ daughter all right. Too bad you don’t have parents to go home to this week. A filthy family you had. Father died straight off the bat. Mother dies just as you’re growing up. Must feel good to be an orphan.” He choked out as if he didn’t want to say it. He watched as you looked down at your shoes and slowly, hair by hair, the color that he clenched in his fist began to turn a violent red. He let you go and backed away slowly. You looked up to meet his cold face, your eyes now a screaming red.

“Malfoy we should go. Now.” Blaise said, beginning to back away. Before he had a chance to respond, you were verbally assaulting him.

“I’d rather be an orphan than be like you and have a father that doesn’t love me. Even worse, a mother who’s making no effort to ever stand up to what your father does. How ‘bout you roll up your sleeves huh? Let’s see what your mother let your father do to you.” He looked horrified. You, the quietest girl he’s ever met, was now going off. “Come on Malfoy!” You laughed, throwing your head back. “You wear it proudly right? Yeah?” You turned, “How ‘bout you Zabini? I know you’ve got one too. I’m not ignorant like everyone else. I can see it clear as day. So come on!” You were yelling now, “own up to it!” They all looked at you in shock before scrambling away.

“Freak!” Pansy shouted after her as the door closed behind her.

~~~
It was two nights later, and you were in the Room of Requirements, sitting on a small sofa surrounded by bookshelves. It was really the only uncluttered part of the enormous room. From where you were, from the left of the door, you had a clear view of the door. That’s how you’d seen Draco all those times. But he’d never thought to look your way.
You’d noticed that he too stayed at Hogwarts this break, though you hardly saw him, you spent most of your time where you were sat now, reading endlessly until you’d fall asleep on your little brown sofa. You were at that point now, your eyes fighting to stay open to read the words on the page, your other senses becoming less keen.
“So this is where you’ve been hiding out.” Startled by the unfamiliar voice, you reached for your wand and held on tightly as you pointed it in their direction. Here he stood, his hands out in front of him as a sign of surrender. Draco Malfoy. “This is how you knew.” He spoke quietly as you lowered your wand cautiously.
“You aren’t exactly cautious. Anyone could have been here, you’re lucky it was someone who doesn’t care if they live or die.” You spoke bluntly.
“I suppose,” He lifted a hand, pointing to the other end of your cozy sofa, “May I sit? I believe we have some things to discuss.” You shrugged and told him he could do whatever he wants, so he took a seat four feet away from you.
“We have nothing to discuss. We could never talk to each other again and I would be content.” You spoke in your flat voice, which seemed to lose its depth when your mother died.
“I want to know what the colors mean.” He spoke when he realized that going around the point wasn’t going to work in his favor.
“Read a book and you’ll learn all about it.” You retorted. “That’s not something you ask someone. That’s like me asking what your stupid dark mark means. But I’m not dumb so I already know.” You ran a hand through your blue hair.
“You’re not scared of me?” His voice was quiet.
“Of course I’m not scared of you.” You looked away before mumbling, “I’m not scared of anything anymore. You lose fear when you have nothing to fear for, had I the need to fear for my life perhaps I would be afraid. Even then you wouldn’t kill me. But my life ended when she died. I have nothing to live for.” You didn’t meet his eyes, unsure as to why you were spilling all this information to him.
“Love?” You scoffed at his comment, a stripe of yellow coming from your roots and flowing out the ends of your hair.
“Love isn’t real, simply a societal stigma towards enjoying someone.” You rolled your eyes and leaned back into the cushions.
“Love is real. I feel it every day.” Your entire head of hair turned green as he spoke.
“Well, whoop di doo good for you!” You rolled your now green eyes and glared at him, your hair fading back to blue. He then had an idea. He wanted to see how many different colors he could make your hair.
“You know I’m sorry for how I acted earlier. I really am. I know it was wrong of me to say those things.” You were skeptical, small twinkles of Silver waved through your hair and speckled in your eyes. His words were honest. They had meaning behind them. “You know you’ve got really nice eyes, almost as nice as your smile.” Your hair was now a very light pink before fading to white.
“What are you doing Malfoy. What are you up to? Buttering me up so I don’t tell anyone about your stupid plan to kill everyone? I don’t care I’m not going to tell anyone. Just leave me alone.” Your hair was a pale orange for a moment before fading back to blue.
“Okay fine.” He hopped up, “Which one of these books-” He gestured all around him to the semi-circle of bookcases around you, “-will tell me about… your… hair.” You rolled your blue eyes.
“Why are you so suddenly interested in it.” You muttered, not actually looking for a response, but you got one anyway;
“You see my darling Y/N,” He took steps toward you, “Have caught my attention, and quite frankly I want to break you down and get to know you. One way to start is that… beautiful hair of yours.” He gave a nasty smirk, “You should expect to be seeing a lot more of me.” You scoffed and just pointed to the bookshelf where he would find the book he was looking for.
Once he sat down again, he pulled out a piece of parchment and a quill, preparing to make a cheat sheet for himself. By the time he had finished his cheat sheet and gathered what he wanted to know, he had noticed that you had dozed off, your knees tucked to your chest as you rested your back against the arm rest. Your hair was yellow, your eyes closed peacefully.
He looked down at his cheat sheet. In small sloppy writing it said:
Pink - Embarrassed / Flattered
Blue - Sad / Distressed
Purple - Love
Yellow - Happy / Amused
Orange - Frustrated / Annoyed
Red - Angry / Furious
Green - Envy / Jealousy
White - Mixed emotions
Grey - Confused
Black - Scared / Terrified
Brown - Calm / hopeful
This was the first time he had seen you happy. He began to wonder if you would ever be happy awake.
~~~~

You and the Slytherin Prince had been spending some time together, you’d never object to having someone around to talk about books with. He often tries to bring up other subjects, asking about you or talking about school, but you just want to talk books. Some days you two read, some days you would sit in a big red chair that Draco dragged across the entire room of requirements and read while he would silently work on the vanishing cabinet. Not a ton of talking would occur in the first couple hours, only occasional ‘are you hungry?’ or ‘are you enjoying it?’ from him. From you it was mostly, ‘how’s it coming?’ or ‘would you like some help?’

You sat there now, the Malfoy Heir sitting only a few feet away from you on the floor, frustrated and slumped down in anger. You sat sideways in your chair, deep into Modern Herbs and Healing Volume VII.

I can’t figure this damn thing out!” He groaned in frustration.

“May I offer my assistance?” You spoke, letting the spine of your book fall closed.

“No… I have to do this myself. I have to.” He ran his hands through his platinum blonde hair.

“Okay… Whatever.” You simply opened your book and kept reading for a moment before letting your book fall closed again. “Malfoy?” Malfoy turned to see your hair slowly during brown, strand by strand. “I noticed… your marks aren’t particularly good in  Astronomy… I was wondering if you maybe wanted some tutoring?” He smiled lightly at you, then opened his mouth to speak. “Actually, don’t answer that… just meet me in the astronomy tower tomorrow night if you want help, if not… just don’t come.” You stood up and dismissed yourself, your hair still brown as you hoped to be joined by Malfoy tomorrow night.

~~~
The next day, your hair wasn’t quite as blue, it was more blue with thin brown highlights, hardly noticeable, but it wasn’t invisible either. Pansy caught onto this quickly and approached the y/h table at breakfast.
“Well hello there Bitch Y/L/N.” She snarled, shoving your plate away from you and sitting on the table in its place, making your hair flash orange before turning back to completely blue. You said nothing as she watched you for a reaction, which you didn’t provide her with. “Oh come on, you’re so boring.”
Unintentionally, your eyes drifted over to Draco to get some sort of help… he was the only person to seem to maybe care for you. He was watching everything go down with his friends, they were all shoving each other and laughing at you. It was then when you realized he didn’t actually care for you at all, he just didn’t want you to rat him out about the cabinet. You were pulled from thought when Pansy laid a solid smack on the back of your head.
“Hey, stupid who are you looking at?” Pansy looked over her shoulder to see Draco watching you guys with a stupid smirk on his face. She immediately broke out in loud, obnoxious laughter. “No way! This is golden! You fancy Malfoy?” She laughed even louder. Pink streaks ran through your hair before your entire head turned white. “Why would a pureblood like Malfoy ever care for a quarter blood freak like you. You’re repulsive. I’m sure he’d rather kiss a pig than your ugly mug. How could anybody ever care about a freak like you.
You said nothing. Realizing she was right, your hair turned a deep, dark blue. You stood and walked out. What you didn’t see, was Malfoy pulling out a crumpled piece of parchment and checking what your hair had done.
You skipped all your classes that day, you just laid in bed all day, staring up at the ceiling. One by one, each strand of your hair lost all color, your eyes lost pigment.
You didn’t feel anything. There was nothing left to feel… All the emotions were drained, all dried up. That was when you decided you were done. You left your dorm before the end of dinner and sat on the edge of the black lake until the sun had completely set. It was quite beautiful for your last sunset, but surely it did not change your mind.
You wanted to see the stars one last time, but once you did, you were ready. You kept your uniform on, you simply walked, one foot after the other, into the black lake. As your fingertips reached the water, you traced designs in the water, speaking to yourself, “I always was the lonely kid with the ugly face”
Your plan may just have worked, had you not forgotten one fatal flaw. You not showing up to the tutoring session caused Draco to worry. When no one had seen you, he grew even more concern.
Being a Prefect, he could stay in the common room after hours, which he was doing at the time you decided to take your last (permanent) dip in the lake. You also had overlooked the fact that the Slytherin common room had a window straight into the black lake.
A Guide to Setting Intentions
Being intentional in your life can change just about everything. If you sometimes feel that you’re just at the mercy of life, along for the ride, letting it direct you and not the other way around, then you may want to start living intentionally. The first thing you must do, and this actually isn’t so easy for many of us, is get clear on what you want. You may think you know what you want, but sometimes these things are transitory and surface-level, things that we think will make us happy. You may also be totally aware that you have no idea what you want in life.
But there’s probably something that’s always been in your mind and in your heart. A dream that you’ve always had - and it doesn’t need to be some great thing, I think sometimes we ignore our heart’s desires because we’re looking for some grand thing, or we’re looking for some socially-accepted thing to want. A desire that would make us money, a desire that would make us seem accomplished, a desire that seems interesting to others. These things aren’t unworthy of wanting, but you must make sure they are what you truly want. Because wanting to fit in or be accepted may be at odds with your life’s true destiny. The universe can sniff out unauthentic desire. Either it won’t give it to you, or it will and you’ll realize you don’t actually want it… Or you’ll still be unsatisfied, looking for the next thing.
I’m going to borrow from Danielle LaPorte’s Desire Map and say that it’s important to figure out how you want to feel in life. When we focus so much on outside goals, we distance ourselves from the fulfillment of them. For instance, if you want a promotion, well ask yourself why. How would it make you feel? If you think it will do away with your inferiority complex, then you’re living your life one band-aid at a time, rather than building something new. Maybe you don’t really need that promotion in order to feel better. But if you can tell that it’s coming from a true place, a true desire to move up in your career, a desire to feel accomplished, independent, etc etc, then allow yourself to want it. Sometimes that’s the most important part - admitting our desires. If you don’t let yourself want it, you won’t let yourself have it.
Next, you must simply ask for it. Ask the universe, inform them of your intention to have that promotion (or whatever it is). Truly trust in the universe, in its ability to provide for you. The universe is on your side (or God, or your inner power, or your higher self, however you want to think of it - basically whatever is most powerful to you). And then you must rest assured in the timely delivery of the results. Know that the universe will answer your call, and live as if it is coming or already there. Cultivate whatever feeling you desire, in the present moment. If you’ve been wanting to feel more adventurous, you don’t have to wait for an opportunity to go sky diving. Take small actions that will let you feel that way, you could probably feel adventurous alone in your room if you get creative.
You don’t have to wait to feel your desired feelings. And when it comes to drawing bigger things into your life (success, love, money, whatever it is), you have to be direct with the universe. Tell them what you want and begin living your life as if it has already come. Practice imagining the fulfillment of your desire, imagine your dreams have already come true. That feeling you’re cultivating will draw in more things that will help you feel that way.
When we set an intention, we are telling the universe how the day, or month, or year will go. We are deciding for ourselves. You do not need to be a victim of outer circumstance. You have more power than you know.
And know that you deserve it. A lot of us live our lives with an unconscious belief that we don’t really deserve to be happy, that suffering is more natural. While suffering can teach us lessons and build strength, we can also learn lessons through pleasurable experiences. Sometimes the biggest lesson is letting yourself have that pleasure and happiness. And finding out what makes you happy - because it’s different for everyone. Honor your needs. Honor your desires. And honor your ability to have them. We are all creators, here on Earth. The builders of our own fate. Let your true desires be your compass, be led by that which is in the heart.
RIGHT QUESTION. 6 years is a loooong time for them to be separated. I still believe in Bellarke, but I have to imagine dynamics will have changed by then, personalities, all that kind of stuff. Do you think they'll ever be the same towards each other? Do you think it hinders the story, shipper goggles or no? Curious to hear your thoughts!
Their dynamics (although probably not their personalities) will absolutely change, in fact it’s already begun. We see Bellamy stepping into Clarke’s shoes in the finale as more of the “head” than the “heart” that he normally is.
When we see Clarke 6 years in the future, she has a child and she’s more emotionally open than we’ve ever seen her before (the confessions on the radio) we’ve never seen or heard Clarke be as emotionally vulnerable as she was in that moment.
Taking care of a child, most likely on her own, for 5-6 years (meaning she found this girl when she was 7 or 8 years old, has softened Clarke.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Clarke’s relationship with Madi is meant to…serve as a parallel for Bellamy’s relationship with Octavia (when they were on the Ark and Bellamy basically served as Octavia’s father.)
However, I don’t imagine that a child will cause serious issues between Bellamy and Clarke, in fact, this would be one more thing that they have in common!
Also, I’m going to be honest because I see a lot of people worrying about the length of time Bellarke will be apart (longer than they ever spent together) but, and maybe this is just me, I am closer to a group of women that I met in January of this year (I literally talk to them everyday) than I am to people I have known my entire life and even some of my family members. We’ve visited each other at our homes, send each other birthday gifts and our even planning a Disney World trip for May of next year and all because we originally had one thing in common (we love The 100).
Bellamy and Clarke’s relationship was forged in fire. The experiences they’ve shared…those aren’t normal. You don’t led a group of people together, save each other’s lives multiple times, take lives together, etc et. al and then have that suddenly erased simply because you spent years believing the other to be dead.
In fact, put yourself in the position of believing someone you loved was dead. And then, unfathomably, after years, you find that they are alive and healthy. Do you think you wouldn’t be overjoyed? Wouldn’t want to spend time catching up on everything that you’d missed? Wouldn’t want to….surround yourself with them?
There is no way that Bellamy and Clarke, upon discovering that they are alive, won’t finally make a go of it.
I don’t think this separation hinders Bellarke at all, I think they very clearly set up romantic Bellarke in 4x13 and they are going to shoot us to canon-dom in S5.
Building a Relationship with the Holy Qur’an
As we get ready for the Holy Month of Ramadhan, I wish to use this platform to offer some advice:
I pray that we use this month to become the true companions of the Holy Qur'an. Dedicate a portion of your time every single day to recite a few verses. Or maybe pick a Surah and learn it inside and out, memorize it, understand its importance such as Surah al-Hujuraat. The amount of moral akhlaq principles which are rooted in this chapter are simply amazing. Some set out for ambitious goals to complete the recitation of the entire Qur'an from cover to cover but they often burn themselves out. Especially if throughout the rest of the 11 months there is no preparation for it. Or you find some who successfully complete the entire Qur'an every single Ramadhan, but few reflect upon the verses. It all becomes a series of lip movements just to finish up this page and on to the next. Their habits remain the same, there is no spiritual progression in their life.
Allah (swt) mentions in the Qur'an in Surah Muhammad, verse 24:
أَفَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ الْقُرْآنَ أَمْ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبٍ أَقْفَالُهَا
Then do they not reflect upon the Qur'an, or are there locks upon [their] hearts?
Many recite, many memorize, look at Tafsirs, but few take a few seconds or minutes to think about what God is actually saying to them.
Use this month to build a relationship with the Qur’an, one that will last even after this blessed month is over. Sure we can recite as much as we can in order to reap in the rewards which Allah will grant us. But are we just after rewards? Or do we yearn to have a relationship with the Qur'an that will last a lifetime. I have experienced so many different moments in my own life, seen friends and other notable figures who have taken a step to make the Holy Qur'an their companion. And Allah (swt) has opened doors in such a manner that one cannot even describe.
Insha Allah we can hold on to both weighty things firmly, the Book of Allah (swt), and the Ahlulbayt (as). May this Shahr Ramadhan be the best one which God has honored us to live through.
