“What is your location, Asset?” the noise of Pierce’s voice screeched in your ear. You hated him, but you had to obey him. You preferred Zola.
“I am in position.” you replied coldly, trying to hint for him to shut up.
“Okay, tell me again. What are you doing?” he asked you, he drove you insane. You knew what you had to do, who to kill and when. He treated you like a child, and you were the best, deadliest assassin in history.
“Wait for the agents to get Fury out of his vehicle, then I snipe him from above. If I do not have a clear shot, I get to ground level and end him hand-to-hand.” you said to him, rolling your eyes for what felt like the hundredth time.
“Good. Rumlow, what is your location?” Pierce asked over the comm.
“Coming up behind him, boss.” Rumlow growled in your ear. If there was one person you despised more than Pierce it was Rumlow. Let’s say he is the one who handles your punishments.
You could hear the faint sounds of gunshots and the shouting of commands over the comm, and then you saw the black van speeding round the corner and the police cars racing after him. You were too busy hating the two men in control of you to take your shot.
“ASSET! YOU MISSED THE DAMN SHOT!” Rumlow screamed in anger to you across the comm. You could hear Pierce’s shouts too, but you were too busy thinking of a new solution.
“Shit…” you muttered under your breath. Pierce would have your head if you failed to kill Fury.
You put your rifle on your back and began sprinting across the rooftops, desperate to keep up with them. Luckily, the serum Zola injected you with gave you increased abilities, and speed was one of them. When you realised the rooftop was coming to an end, you crossed your fingers and launched yourself off the roof, landing like a cat in the middle of the street.
“The fuck…?” Rumlow whispered into the comm.
You threw an explosive under Fury’s vehicle and backed out the way.
“All units stand down. I’ve got this.” you said into the comm. All the police cars reversed and drove in different directions away from the scene.
You pulled your rifle off your back again and began running towards the car which was engulfed in flames at this point. You ripped off the door and could’ve screamed when you saw nothing but a hole in the ground.
“Pierce, the target has escaped.” you shouted into the comm.
“Get your ass back here, soldier.” he growled. You rolled your eyes again, nobody scared you.
You heard gunshots getting closer, your senses heightening.
“Rumlow, what is your location?” you said into the comm.
“Coming back for you, princess.” he said sarcastically into the comm. He knew how much you hated pet names.
“Are you engaged in shooting?” you questioned, reloading your rifle and getting into position to engage targets.
“No, we are in the air. Three people, armed, are heading your way. Be ready.” Rumlow said, you could sense panic in his tone. Again, you weren’t scared, just ready. You had been longing for a kill for a while now.
“Any idea who they are?” you whispered, crouching behind a different car at the other side of the street.
“Negative, but I presume they work for SHIELD. Take them out.” he said. Your three favourite words brought a smirk to your face.
“I have visual.” you said, aiming your gun towards a red-headed woman with a handgun in her waist holster.
“Hold your fire!” Pierce suddenly shouted over the comm.
“What?! Why?” you huffed, annoyed he ruined your kill.
“That’s Captain America, James Barnes, and Natasha Romanoff. SHIELD’s best agents. Get out of there, we need them alive.” Pierce said.
“B-Barnes?” you questioned him. You recognised the name. James Barnes.
“нанести ущерб.” Pierce said. Your trigger words drove you back to your Winter Soldier state. Emotionless. (wreak havoc)
You saw the helicopter landing on the roof at the other side of the street. You huffed, knowing Rumlow would have landed there on purpose for you to be shot at. Without thinking, you sprinted across the street, making sure your mask was firmly on your face. You jumped off the top of Fury’s car, landing perfectly beside the helicopter on the roof. You could hear bullets ricocheting off the helicopter, so you jumped in and flew away. You could tell by the smug look on Rumlow’s face you were being punished for this.
2 days later, New York
Natasha and Steve were standing next to Fury’s body. Bucky was waiting outside, keeping an eye out. He was trying to chat up Agent Hill, but failing miserably.
“Steve, Nat, we have to take his body.” she called into the room from the hallway.
Nat wiped a single tear from her face and walked out, Steve following close behind.
“Wait, we have new intel on who did this to Fury.” Agent Hill said, stopping the three from leaving. They all spun around.
She handed Steve a file with the Hydra logo printed over the front. The phrase ‘Winter Soldier Programme’ written in the corner.
“What the hell is this?” Bucky asked, looking over Steve’s shoulder.
“Hydra’s newest asset.” Nat answered, turning to face the both of them.
“How do you know that?” Steve asked her. Nat rolled her eyes.
“I came face to face with her on a mission a few years ago. She was created by Hydra. She is the deadliest, most feared assassin in history. Nobody knows who she is or where she came from but they do know she has a certain way of killing, so all the patterns are the same. The patterns began around the same time you two went under during the war. It is thought she was going to be used as a secret weapon to fight in the army. They needed someone unknown, with no family and little friends so they wouldn’t notice when she went missing.” Nat lifted up her shirt slightly, showing a scar on her stomach. “She killed a fellow agent with one bullet, went right through me. Bye-bye bikinis.”
“Yeah, bet you look awful in them now.” Bucky winked at her. Nat just scoffed and went back to what she was saying.
“Most of the intelligence community doesn’t believe she exists. The ones that do call her the Winter Soldier.” Nat said, waiting for their response.
“Why didn’t you tell us before?” Steve asked.
“I thought she was dead. She went off the radar for almost two years. I figured she might have been KIA.” Nat said, “I was wrong. It appears she was training for something. Something big. She’s more skilled than ever, and the tactics she was using appear different. They’ve changed her, made her more hard to find and deadlier. She’s gonna take down SHIELD.”
