BRATTLEBORO >> Five southeastern Windham County school districts have decided to continue on a journey that could lead to formation of a large-scale, first-of-its-kind solar project.
The BUHS No. 6 Board along with town school boards in Putney, Guilford, Vernon and Dummerston each have voted to join a statewide consortium’s search for a developer to build a net-metered solar facility. In addition to feeding power into the grid, that array also would send money-saving utility bill credits back to the schools that sign on as partners.
“The opportunity is to consider proposals from developers of solar arrays that would essentially produce electricity on behalf of any board that wants to participate and send that electricity to Green Mountain Power,” Rucker said. “Green Mountain Power pays the developer, a credit shows up on our bill, and the whole purpose of this from our point of view is, that credit would reduce the cost for us to purchase electricity.”
