Why Looney Tunes: Back in Action is objectively the greatest film ever made

No-one ever talks about Looney Tunes: Back in Action and that’s a crime.

Because…

Okay, Brendan Fraser plays a stuntman.

…who hates working with Brendan Fraser.

His dad is Timothy Dalton, who plays an actor most well known for spy films.

…who turns out to actually be a real spy and hides spy shit behind a portrait of himself.

So father and son have to team up to stop an evil genius…   played by a near-unrecognisable Steve Martin.

…whose henchman is WWE star Bill Goldberg.

By the way, Steve Martin is the head of the ACME corporation.

Yes, that ACME.

Oh, and among Martin’s underlings are Ron Perlman and Robert Picardo.

So anyway our heroes end up at Area Fifty TWO… which is run by Joan Cusack.

…and which houses all sorts of alien nasties, including…

TRIFFIDS

THIS ISLAND EARTH MUTANTS

ROBOT MONSTER

AND MOTHER FUCKING DALEKS

Plus the twins from Gremlins 2 play the WARNER BROTHERS

Shaggy and Scooby chastise Matthew Lillard over the live action Scooby Doo movie.

Porky Pig and Speedy Gonzales lament political correctness killing their careers.

Brendan Fraser gets to punch Brendan Fraser.

Fucking plus

Plus the whole time he’s accompanied by Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny, and the whole thing was directed by Joe Dante so you know that’s a perfect fit.

So in conclusion, please watch Looney Tunes: Back in Action. It will most likely change your life.

@dalek-mas said: Would you be interested in drawing two fire emblem characters together? :3 if not that’s fine. I love your art a ton btw! If I get some extra Christmas money I’ll def come back and commission you <3

I’ve actually played one of the Fire Emblem games before, and I always imagined Henry trying to kill Gaius with too much candy. (Spoilers: It didn’t work)

The first scene we sat down to read, but in the second scene Peter asked, ‘Do you want to stand up?’ I don’t know if you’ve ever been to a television casting before, but you usually sit down. I usually just try and move my face as little as possible but Peter wanted to stand up, so we did. It was the scene when Bill first goes into the TARDIS and he was bringing me back and forth, pressing imaginary buttons. I was literally thinking this was the maddest thing that had ever happened to me in my life. Luckily that’s what Bill’s supposed to be thinking in the scene — otherwise I don’t know how the audition would’ve gone. It was crazy. The last scene that we read, which was used for the trailer — the one where we’re hiding from the Daleks — Peter had us lean against the wall.

no shade to the guy or anything but if i ever met andrew garfield i would compliment his performance in the Doctor Who episodes Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks and then refuse to acknowledge any of his other work

Note: I absolutely loved this series. I finished it last night and actually laid awake thinking about it for a few hours, the images haunting just beneath my eyelids. Another wonderful work by The_Dalek_Emperor.

Part I (Below) | Part II | Part III | Part IV |

It’s a long story, but one you’ve never heard before. A story is about a place that dwells in the woods, on the mountain; a place where bad things happen. And you may think you know about the bad things, you may decide you have it all figured out but you don’t. Because the truth is worse than monsters and men.

At first I was upset when they told me we were moving to some little town out in the Ozarks. I remember staring at my dinner plate while I listened to my sister throw a temper tantrum unbefitting of a 14 year old honors student. She cried, she pleaded, and then she cursed at my parents. She threw a bowl at my dad and told him it was all his fault. Mom told Whitney to calm down but she stormed off, slamming every door in the house on the way to her room.

I secretly blamed my dad as well. I’d heard the whispers too, my dad had done something wrong, something bad and the sheriff’s department had reassigned him to some little out of the way county to save face. My parents didn’t want me to know that, but I did.

I was nine so it didn’t take me too long to warm to the idea of a change; it was like an adventure. New house! New school! New friends! Whitney, of course, felt the opposite. Moving to a new school at her age is hard, moving away from her new boyfriend, however, was even harder. While the rest of us packed up our things and said our goodbyes, Whitney sulked and cried and threatened to run away from home. But a month later when we pulled up to our new house in Drisking, Missouri she was sitting right next me texting viciously on her phone.

You were walking home, your work had finished and you stayed at a friend’s house for a while. Two hours had passed and you decided to leave by simply walking home as you lived jut a few streets away and had already parked your car at home so it wasn’t even an option.

The biting cold made your ears turn hot and a bright red, you loved the winter in general. The Winter was the season of being with family and loved ones, celebrating Christmas whether for religious purposes or not and of course the start of a new year, a fresh start. What you liked about Christmas was snuggling up on the couch with a blanket and a hot beverage, watching Netflix somewhat endlessly.

Loved ones. The words spun around your mind as you sighed with a stare at the black and white world, it was dull and empty, more so after seeing colour more than once. To be back with black and white was more than just disappointing, you knew it was permanent or a miracle had to happen, either way it was always dull, black and white. You grumbled until you eventually arrived, unlocking the door.

You heard someone talking out of the blue, you were shocked but didn’t stand frozen too long, grabbing the broom that stood in the room and remembering some tips you once read about what to do. As you quietly made your way into the room it was dead silent.

“What are you doing that for?’’

In a swift moment you had spun around and the broom hit whoever was standing behind you. You quickly took steps back, still clutching onto the hold of the broom and now staring at the man who was rubbing his head. You didn’t recognize him, his hair was light which, alongside the lines marking his face, indicated he was quite old, his outfit was a bit like a magician but still somewhat formal, assuming that it was actually black even when you see colour.

“What are you doing?! Put it down if I were going to rob you this house would be empty just as you would be in a van if I planned on kidnapping you.’’ He spoke bitterly and you considered it for a second, something about him seemed familiar and as you had a phone right next to you to call an emergency number, you put the broom down.

“Y/N, it’s me.’’ The man suddenly said, spreading his arms which made you raise an eyebrow, again there was something to him that felt familiar. The personality, maybe a bit of the accent, you couldn’t quite pin it down but he felt so familiar to you it was weird, you were convinced you had never seen this man before. Suddenly he realized something and it seemed at that moment he realized he’s an idiot. “Of course, new regeneration. Twelfth.’’ He said to you, you assumed that, moving his hand to show off his face.

The words sunk, regeneration, twelfth, you stared at him for a while. A small smile grew onto his face but after everything doubt clouded your mind far more than happiness, you beckoned him to follow you and he curiously did and once you stood outside you took his hand.

As happened a long time ago, colours sprouted and came into your vision, as though you are a tree and branches spreading everywhere on the planet. The sky was a dark blue, mixed alongside the dull white which now had a more golden tone, the stars. The houses were all different shades of different colours, the street lanterns shining a dim yellow down onto the ground, the parked cars in different shades as brown, blue or silver.

It was always weird, one day you met the Doctor, it was pure coincidence but the two of you shared a quick brush of contact and boom, colour was everywhere. You always wondered how it worked, the Doctor himself didn’t even know it. The Doctor explained that what happened to you two was also a thing very common on his planet, neither of you understood how it worked cross species though, it didn’t matter.

The two of you travelled a long time and you were there quite often when he regenerated, both of you always anxious to see if the colour which still continue and it did, each time it did and the colour came sprouting back. The two of you reached a point where neither of you cared about how it worked anymore, at least you were together and it was working. Then he left you, he was going to Gallifrey, a war on his planet. And after so many years you had given up you’d find him again.

You turned to face him and was proven right that he looked quite like a magician and it was still formal, you smiled. “Do you see it too?’’ A silence followed, the wind cursing past you two, the trees shaking, cars squeaking and the few houses that had loud music, the Doctor didn’t respond and it took less than a second to know why, it seemed obvious. He didn’t.

“I’m sorry.’’ He apologized and he looked you directly in the eye, you were unsure of what to do and looked at the man for a while, you never had a Doctor you preferred as you had been with many and this one seemed more like the first few he described, you smiled at him. It was a sad smile, but a smile nonetheless. “Why didn’t you come earlier?’’

“Time war, I did some horrible things during the time war, genocide against the Daleks and the time lords, but recently I found out things are different and I made a change for the better, the Daleks might still be there but the Time Lords as well, it was shame and guilt that kept me from coming.’’ He admitted and you looked at him, he didn’t seem like an emotion person from outside but you were able to see the horrors that haunted his eyes.

“Where’s the Tardis? If you want me with you of course.’’ You said, only when you finished your question realizing how selfish it sounded, he was startled at the comment you added and gave you a curious look. ”Why wouldn’t I want you with me? That was the whole point of seeking you out.’’

“It’s just, colour is something big and I don’t want to keep it from you.’’ You admitted, it felt selfish to travel with him as you were maybe keeping him from seeking out other human beings or aliens who might be his soul mate, a person who could give him colour and receive that in return too. “Don’t be an idiot.’’ He simply replied before stepping outside. You smiled as you followed him outside, the Tardis parked in your backyard.

“Now, are you ready to leave?’’ You nodded without a second thought and went inside, the Tardis humming and giving you a warm welcome and you were quite flattered she was this nice. “You’ve redecorated,’’ You said as you turned back to him, running your finger over the familiar yet unfamiliar console. “I don’t like it.’’ You joked with a grin and he smiled too, the two of you soon racing around the console.

“So, all of time and all of space.’’

The Next Doctor

I’ve covered every episode of Classic Doctor Who now as well as the Ninth Doctor’s series, so now I’m looking at the era of the Tenth Doctor!

233: The Next Doctor

“ Jackson, if anyone had to be The Doctor I’m glad it was you. ”

Format: 1 x 60 mins

Writer: Russell T. Davies

Team TARDIS:

  • Tenth Doctor (David Tennant)

Story:  Christmas 1851, and Cybermen stalk Victorian London. The Tenth Doctor discovers a spate of mysterious deaths, and he’s surprised to meet another Doctor! Are two Doctors enough to stop the rise of the CyberKing?

What I liked:

  • David Morrissey is great
  • Love the idea of someone thinking they are the Doctor
  • Good Victorian London sets

What I disliked:

  • Cybershades and a cyberking?!
  • I don’t think Mercy Hartigan really worked.

Overall thoughts: After the epic Series 4 finale we get this. Thanks to the daleks breaking down the walls of reality the cybermen have somehow managed to escape the Void and arrive in Victorian London. No, it doesn’t make sense even for Doctor Who. I suppose after three Christmas specials set in the present day it was time to shake things up.

What works really well here is the Jackson Lake side of things. He believes he is the Doctor and whilst I can’t see Morrissey as the full-time Doctor he is glorious here. There’s a lot of fun to be had in seeing his ‘sonic’ screwdriver and his TARDIS but there’s also a decent mystery over who he is and what he’s forgotten. It all works so well because David Morrissey is so convincing. He makes a fun, cheesy Doctor but there’s real emotion as he gradually learns the truth.

What doesn’t work so well is the cyberman stuff. For a start I don’t think cybermen in a historical setting works. I suppose they were hoping for a steampunk vibe but it doesn’t really work. Then there’s the cybershades, random furry monsters with a cyberman mask on. What’s the point of these- they look awful and normal cybermen could have easily filled their places. The cyberking isn’t much better. The Doctor seems to know of the concept which is odd as otherwise I’d assume this is something the cybermen created based on the available technology. The idea of a giant cyberman sounds great but in practice it’s rubbish.

Then there’s Mercy Hartigan, played with real menace by Dervla Kerwan. I sort of get the idea of her, a genius woman suppressed by men her whole life who is so strong she can control the cybermen. For me though it didn’t really work- she’s tricked by the cybermen and easily defeated by the Doctor so despite being described as something special she’s pretty rubbish too.

Thankfully there’s a wonderful ending. The Doctor discusses why he no longer has a companion- “I suppose in the end they break my heart.”- and then goes for Christmas dinner with Jackson. It’s Christmassy, emotional and generally a good ending to a fairly underwhelming episode.

Next Time: An unusual bus ride…

«Rose was still half asleep when she boarded the Vitex zeppelin the next morning, practically falling into the closest seat. She had spent the night curled in the foetal position when she wasn’t crying all over her patient mother. She was still in shock that her Doctor had left her. She had worked so hard with the team at Torchwood to develop the Dimension cannon for the express purpose of returning to him in their proper universe. She’d finally found him, only to see him shot by the Dalek. Her heart had almost stopped when he’d started to regenerate, but fortunately, he’d managed to pour all of the excess energy into his old hand and keep the face that she loved so much.

At the thought of the hand, Rose looked up from studying her toes. Where was he, that…that… cause for all of her sorrow? She hadn’t seen him since he’d disappeared into his room at the bed and breakfast yesterday. Maybe he’d overslept and was in the process of being left behind! She shook her blond head ruefully; she couldn’t be that lucky.»

- That really is too small -

Been working on this chap for ages now (Since Series 9 started) and had him on the back-burner for a while as other projects went forward.
Although I’m happy with him, I’m pretty pleased to be done with it as it was starting to get a bit boring.

Great fun sculpting a looser caricature style and his scruffier look.
Hoodie and all.

Fandom Debate: Best Vehicle

Star Wars: Well, X-wings are pretty awesome, as is Slave I, but I’ll stick with the Millennium Falcon.

Star Trek: Heh, that’s cute.  The Enterprise can teleport you planet side.

Back To The Future: My Delorean can travel through time.  Your argument is invalid.

Doctor Who: I mean, the Dalek space craft has a really elegant design and… Who am I kidding?  The TARDIS.  I want the freaking TARDIS.  *Sees kid reading a book*  You there.  What would you go with?

Dresden Files: Huh?  Oh, well, I think I’d like a 1960′s era Volkswagen Beetle.

Other Fandoms: *Collective Raise Eyebrow*

Dresden Files: Preferably with the doors, trunk, and hood all in different colors and the upholstery all eaten away.

Back To The Future: Does it do anything special?

Dresden Files: Well, it works most of the time.  That’s pretty good right?

Other Fandoms: *Collective Eyebrow Raising Intensifies*

  • Donna: Part human. Oh, yes. That was a two-way biological metacrisis. Half Doctor, half Donna.
  • 10th Doctor: The Doctor Donna. Just like the Ood said, remember? They saw it coming. The Doctor Donna.
  • 12th Doctor: *popping out of nowhere* So, like a hybrid?!
