I hate it when people say technology is taking away kids’ childhoods
If anything, it’s actually giving kids more of an opportunity to let their imagination out

A lot of times when I let kids play on my phone, they go for the drawing app.
I watched a girl on the bus write a silly poem about her friends and then laugh as she made Siri read it
I hear children say to their friends “hey, FaceTime me later” because they still want to talk face to face even when they’re far away.
I see kids sitting, who would feel lonely and ignored if it weren’t for the fact that they’re texting their friends who are far away.
Children still climb trees. They might just take a selfie from the top to show off how high they’ve gotten.
They can immediately read the next book of their favorite series on their Kindles.
Most kids would still be up for a game of cops and robbers. Or maybe they’d google rules to another game they haven’t played yet.
When children wonder why the sky is blue, they don’t get an exasperated “I don’t know” from tired adults. They can go on Wikipedia and read about light waves and our atmosphere.
They show off the elaborate buildings they created on Minecraft.

Technology isn’t ruining childhoods, it’s enhancing them.

MatPat: *takes a deep breath*

MatPat: i lo-

Jason: yes, you love Stephanie, we know, you love Stephanie so much, she’s the light of your life, you love her so much, you just love Stephanie we KNOW, you love Stephanie you fucking love Stephanie okay we know, we get it, YOU LOVE STEPHANIE FUCKING PATRICK. WE GET IT.

You know, I’ve received enough notes and asks in response to recent posts that I’m just going to address this one separately: when I’ve been grumping about webcomic scheduling woes, I do not, in fact, mean Homestuck.

Compared to its peers, Homestuck was published extraordinarily quickly for a work of its length. Similarly, the so-called “Gigapause” is by no means exceptional as webcomic hiatuses go.

Y’all are talking like surviving a year off is some sort of Herculean feat.

There are comics - currently updating ones, even! - where we’ve been waiting the better part of two decades for the author to get to the goddamn point.

Some of those plot threads have been dangling longer than many of those reading this post have been alive.

Like, I’m not trying to turn this into a “kids these days” thing, but please, don’t go acting like your fandom is the only one that knows what it is to suffer.

We know.

Oh, gods, we know.

AriA’s File

Okay, what is the deal with Aria’s file? What on earth could be her secret? A secret that would put EZRA in jail, and make him pick Nicole over her?

AD says the following to Aria:

“Jessica DiLaurentis kept excellent records. If Ezra knew what was in your file he would definitely choose Nicole, and she would be visiting him in jail.”

Why would something …

  • in ARIAs file
  • put EZRA in jail
  • AND have him pick Nicole

???????????

One thing we know for sure is it had to be something that happened BEFORE Jessica’s murder, since it is something Jessica found out.

This can be interpreted in two ways:

  1. Jessica DiLaurentis found something incriminating about Ezra that Aria has kept a secret. But…. why would Ezra hate Aria because of it? Why would Ezra blame Aria if this came out? What is she willing to keep secret about Ezra that she would go against her best friends for? Does Aria know a secret about Ezra that if it came out would put him in jail? Okay, there are a few possibilities here, but why would it make Ezra choose Nicole over Aria? Thats the part I just dont understand. Ezra could be upset that Jessica found out something about him, but why would it make him give up his love for Aria???
  2. Jessica found out something about Aria that would cause Ezra to hate her and to do something that would put him in jail….Is this signifying that Ezra would kill Aria if he found out this secret?

I feel like the following photo is significant. The 4 glasses represent the four main girls, Spencer, Hanna, Aria & Emily.

By shattering a glass, it is a symbol that she is no longer one of them, that she is going against the group to protect whatever is in her file.

The girls have always stuck together, so it has to be something HUGE if she is willing to go over to the dArk side.

(Side Note: I swear to GOD if Marlene messes this up and its something stupid Im going to jump off a cliff)

There has always been something sketchy about Aria. I’ve written a million posts about it and don’t want to go through every little thing again because we’ll be here all day, but I do want to go over a few significant things.

  • Aria and Eddie Lamb

When Aria goes into Radley to get info on Bethany’s old roommate, Eddie Lamb recognizes her and says he feels like they have met before. Aria acts REALLY BIZARRE in this scene. She is obviously hiding something. She has some kind of connection to Radley Sanitarium.

———————

  • Aria and Jason

A part of me has always believed that Jason is A. I have written theories about it. He has always had a thing for Aria. The weirdest thing was when he had all of those close-up photos of her sleeping. He claimed Alison took them-but I just dont buy that. And later A had the same photos in his/her lair.

Then there is a very similar scene in later seasons, of Aria hanging up her creepy doll photographs in a dark room. It is a parallel to when Jason is in the darkroom with the pictures of her.

Its possible that whatever is in her file has something to do with Jason. This could lead in to why it would cause Ezra to choose Nicole over Aria.

—————————

  • Aria and Mona

What the hell did Aria whisper to Mona at this moment that had her running scared?????? Aria and Mona have always had an interesting relationship and suspicious conversations.

—————————-

  • The Dollhouse

Aria had the mannequin family framed in her Dollhouse bedroom. The look on her face seems to convey that she KNOWS SOMETHING. Who/why they were taken there.

————

There are so many crazy possibilities as to what is in Aria’s file. The last few episodes of the show have really depressed me. I’ve been majorly disappointed in the writing and reveals. I am really hoping they give us something shocking and amazing for Aria’s secret.

Fingers crossed.

the nacho rebranding

nacho here! it’s about time i revealed my main blog. i’d like to reply to posts, too! but i have an ulterior motive: i’ve recently turned my main blog into an art-only blog. what this means is that i’ll be posting original art (including very low quality caretaker shitposts) on that blog… and lots of monster ladies! maybe some non-caretaker-related undertale fanart, too.

in the future there will probably be tasteful (non-sexual) nudity, so keep that in mind if you decide to follow.

hamilton headcannons - bookstore edition!
  • aaron
    - walks in knowing exactly what he wants
    - only buys one book. john always tries to get him to buy more but aaron insists he already has too many (which isn’t true; he doesn’t have many books because he likes to reread the same ones over and over)
    - he also likes to note lines/sections that he really likes with multi-colored post it notes. the more post its a book has, the more often he rereads it
  • john
    - will go directly to the graphic novel/comic book section
    - ends up on the floor surrounded by comics
    - spends the entire time reading them and ends up buying every one
    - if he has the funds he usually will buy a book or two regarding social issues ( he doesn’t stock up though because he’ll sneak one from angelica’s collection here and there)
  • lafayette
    - usually interested in the biography section
    - grabs a handful that seem interesting to him (sometimes he’ll find several biographies on the same person)
    - often shares fun facts abt the people he reads about at random times (“did you know frida kahlo could drink any man under the table?”)
    - finds a corner to read the first few chapters of each one
    - only ends up buying one but writes down the names of the rest so he can come back and buy them
    - if he’s done before everyone else he’ll get a coffee at the café with peggy
  • hercules
    - wanders around the store for a little while
    - makes his way to the kids section
    - ends up sitting on a colorful carpet and reads children’s books to the kids (he spends the entire time back there)
    - his favorites are the quiet noisy book and any Dr. Seuss book
    - he always uses different voices for each character in the book (he gets really into it - the kids love listening to him read and some parents even join in to listen too)
  • alexander
    - spends so much time in the store
    - gets a few books from every genre
    - ends up spending way too much money in one trip
    - his bookshelves are already overflowing yet he promises that he’ll read every book (he won’t)
    - he prefers nonfiction but will sometimes find an amazing fiction book that he rereads over and over
    - angelica scolds him, telling him he’s “wasting his money” (alex ignores her but deep down knows she’s right) (she always is)
  • george
    - is basically in the same boat as aaron
    - knows what he wants, buys it, and is done
    - sits beside aaron and reads while everyone else is busy
    - disapproves of aaron’s pick, calling it “boring” (little does he know aaron secretly bought a romance novel to read at home but he doesn’t want anyone to know about it. the notebook is a weakness of his)
  • eliza
    - looks at the poetry section for a while
    - she prefers really old poetry and spends afternoons deciphering their meaning
    - rarely ends up buying much
    - she already has plenty at home and even has a list of what book to read next (also ang lets eliza borrow from her stock whenever she likes)
    - after she finds what she wants she’ll go to the kids section and listen to herc read with the kids
    - she picks out more kids’ books and stacks them up beside herc
  • angelica
    - actually doesn’t need to buy any books
    - usually brings extra money in the case that her sisters don’t have enough
    - brings the book she’s in the middle of with her
    - spends some time looking around and writes down the names of ones she’s interested in so she can borrow them from the library later on
    - owns every single classic novel (little women, pride and prejudice, etc.)
    - has lots of books about social issues/feminism
    - goes b/c she enjoys the atmosphere of bookstores
    - also b/c she loves the sound of new book spines cracking
  • peggy
    - goes to the café first
    - gets a really fancy drink
    - looks for books with fun covers and reads the summaries in the front covers of each
    - ends up only choosing one because she spent too much money on her overpriced frappucino
    - while in line she’ll probably pick up some colorful pens
    - goes back to the café to read her book or draw designs on laf’s arms with her new pens

The studyblr community has pooled in a lot of amazing, aesthetically pleasing, efficient, and fun ways to take notes and study. However, over the past few years, especially last semester when I took college classes, I realized that having one system really wasn’t helpful because I would have to scramble for different strategies when the classes drastically differed from one another. So, I made strategies for certain types of classes that were created specifically for those characteristics but flexible enough to adjust a bit if needed. Here is how I study:

  1. I want to start off by saying ALL strategies including reading. DO NOT SKIP IT. It’s hard, it’s boring, and it’s slow, but in the end you learn and create a strong foundation for yourself.
  2. I do not skip a word. I use three different colored post its, some page flags, and a writing utensil. I abhor highlighting on textbooks and books with a passion so I use post its instead: one for writing notes and key concepts, another for terminology, and the last color  for any questions I have. As I read, I write all of my notes and then stick them in my textbooks in the corresponding area. The flags are for when I feel like I just couldn’t get the information completely and I want to come back and double review. Finally, after I go through a chapter, I get my notebook and from the beginning of the chapter, I rewrite my post its into notes with the same color coding system.
  3. For the classrooms with power points: This is pretty simple. I print them before hand into handouts if they’re available before lecture and write everything that the teacher says in margins or highlight information. if they’re not available before hand, I still take notes from what the teacher is saying and writing and I make tiny notes of which slide it corresponds with. Then, I print the powerpoint later and write it into the powerpoint slides. To study, I just read over them.
  4. When the teacher usually writes on the board, speaks all the time, and doesn’t use pp: This is where reading the textbook becomes your best friend. You won’t get as much details in lecture since a person can only talk and write so much in an allotted time period. Instead, I copy everything off of the board and don’t miss anything. At the same time I try to get everything he says onto my notebook also. As a back up, I have a voice recorder going on at the same time. Once I get home, I IMMEDIATELY and ALWAYS rewrite those class notes since they probably look terrifying. After all, people speak faster than they can write.
  5. Finally, online classes. Most of it is learning by yourself so stay motivated and determined and you can do it! First, video transcripts are not your notes. Take notes from the video themselves while you’re watching them. For all of those online resources, write notes in every way you can. Print out all of your assignments that you do or put them somewhere where you can print them later to read over. Any reading excerpts? Print those and highlight all you want. Finally, READ THAT TEXTBOOK.
  6. The last part of my studying strategy is really only useful when it comes to tests. Do any and all practice questions that you can get your hands on. I don’t care if it says there’s 100 questions. Do them!! If anything got me through my classes, it would be all of those damn practice tests and textbook questions (Do every problem in the back of your book. Do them. When you do them, your teachers can throw anything at you and you’ll be able to do any scenario.).

All classes are different. Some are a mixture of the traditional powerpoint and traditional lectures. That’s why I really like my strategies because they’re at like two different extremes and I can use them at different amounts to meet that perfect spot where my class is.

Finally, I will say that my study strategies do rely on my organizational systems. I have different notebooks for different things, different binder arrangements for different classes, and so on. If you want a master post on that just give me a message (it’ll probably come at some point but i’m also really lazy and forgetful).

Good luck with studying. Just remember to stay healthy no matter what you’re doing <3

Who said “I love you” first

Jim.

Just in casual conversation.

They’re just shooting the bull in Bones’ office. Sickbay is slow today, and Jim’s not on bridge duty until beta. They’re only a week into whatever this is, but after spending years in each others’ pockets and six months in deep space, there’s nothing unusual about seeing the captain in sickbay or the CMO on the bridge, and the conversation is easy, comfortable. Jim’s got his feet propped on Bones’ couch, and Bones is sprawled haphazardly across his desk, swinging his left foot and sipping a cup of coffee.

“I’ve got seven in engineering that are late on their vaccination schedule,” Bones is saying. “So, I’ll be handling that fallout later today.” He shakes his head and makes a mental note to check Jim’s record. “I don’t know what it is about engineers, Jim. It’s just a damn hypo.”

“Hey, Bones,” says Jim suddenly. He sits up on the couch, as if the thought has only just occurred to him. “I love you.”

It surprises Len.

In fact, Len doesn’t even answer, he’s so shocked.

In fact, Len spends the next 30 seconds or so hacking and sputtering on the coffee he’d inhaled.

“Jesus, Bones, I just professed my undying devotion to you,” Jim laughs. “Try not to die on me, okay?”

“I’ll… I’ll have your records transferred to M’Benga,” Len says when he can finally speak.

Jim just rolls his eyes.

Who would have the other’s picture as their phone background

The background of Len’s PADD is solid black. Anything else distracts him as he’s trying to read.

The background on Jim’s PADD is a picture of the bridge crew on their most recent shore leave.

They’re on a beach. The sand is fine and black, the sky painted in streaks of soft oranges and greens. Jim’s grinning widely, holding a sprawling Chekov in his arms. Bones has his arms folded across his chest, but the tiny grin that tugs at the corner of his lips and his dancing eyes give him away. Sulu and Scotty are both in mid-air, Scotty’s face screwed up in concentration, Hikaru’s arms and legs outstretched like an exuberant starfish. Nyota’s got hold of one of Pav’s feet, and she’s laughing. Spock looks particularly relaxed, one hand resting delicately on Ny’s shoulder.

It’s Jim’s second favorite picture ever.

When he activates his device, though, the background changes.

This one is of Bones.

It’s a rare moment. Jim had snapped a photo of Bones on that same shore leave, on that same beach. It’s rocky, here. Bones is propped on a large white stone, weight resting on one hand, the other arm slung easily over his knee. He’s looking over the water, away from the camera. He’s shirtless, still damp from swimming, hair mussed from the wind. He’d been completely heedless of Jim’s presence, relaxed and utterly at peace, a soft little smile dancing on his lips.

It’s the only candid picture of Bones that Jim has, and Jim will never, ever change his background to anything else.

Who leaves notes written in fog on the bathroom mirror

Jim likes to leave notes for Len everywhere, not just in foggy mirrors. In fact, Jim has a bundle of old school yellow sticky notes that he uses for exactly this purpose.

It starts in the academy.

Jim leaves an occasional note for Len to find. Len’s confused by them, at first.

He thinks, at first, that it must be some sort of strange recall technique, a weird study habit that Jim had picked up from… somewhere.

When they start to pile up, Len decides that enough is enough. He gathers them up and stuffs them in a spare shoebox. He tosses the box under his bed, thinking Jim can ask for them, if he needs them.

It’s not long before he has quite the collection.

The notes never say anything important, sometimes a random word - “Vagarious,” or “Apoptosis,” or “Jumentous.” Sometimes it’s a quote. Jim’s got an astounding repertoire of collected wisdom, Len learns, referencing everyone from Mark Twain to Surak to Lady Gaga. Sometimes it’s just a garbled, out-of-context sentence - “I do not know where family doctors acquired illegibly perplexing handwriting,” - and occasionally, Jim sketches.

He sketches everything, little scenes from his day, Len’s medkit, a PADD, a discarded bottle of brandy. Jim’s not an artist, not by a long shot, but his subjects are instantly recognizable to Len, if a little cartoonish.

Len finds a few of himself. One in particular that he’s pretty confused by.

He’s sleeping, he can recognize this by the scattering of zzzz’s that surround his face and his (over-exaggerated, Len thinks) mussed hair.

This note is labeled.

“Lips,” it says.

Len furrows his brow at this one, but adds it to his box, anyway. It’s just a habit, by now, his automatic response.

At the beginning of second year, when Jim’s Survival Strategies field study group goes missing, Len finds himself sitting on his bed with the box in his lap.

Jim’s been gone for days. Len’s hounded and hounded administration, and gets the same deferral every time. “We have no information to disclose,” they say.

Len takes the notes out of the box one by one and just stares.

The depth of emotion that they evoke, the ridiculous sentences punctuated by stark wisdom - “Gary eats lots of pies,” juxtaposed with, “It is paradoxical, yet true, to say, that the more we know, the more ignorant we become in the absolute sense,” - the surprisingly elegant script, it all brings Len to his knees, and in that moment, Leonard McCoy quits fooling himself.

He’s in love with Jim Kirk.

Jim, of course, comes sauntering back into the apartment at 3 am that morning, unkempt and sleep-deprived, but otherwise totally fine.

And Len can breathe again.

He doesn’t say anything about the notes, but he starts to look forward to them. He’s keeping them intentionally now, storing them up for the one awful, inevitable day when Jim doesn’t come back to him.

“It’s just part of the game, Bones,” Jim’s words echo in his thoughts. “Command is all about sacrifice.”

Len feels a little guilty about it, like he’s doing something he shouldn’t, like he’s harboring a dirty secret by hoarding away little pieces of the man who will inevitably break him. Loving Jim Kirk is like loving a streak of lightning - blazing, brilliant, blinding and beautiful, but gone far too soon, and leaving a trail of devastation in its wake.

Len knows he’s going to get burned, but he keeps the notes anyway.

Later, after the boys fucking finally sort things out and Len pulls his head out of his ass, it becomes a game to Jim, leaving sappy post-its around sickbay for Bones to find.

And Len saves them.

Every single one.

Who buys the other cheesy gifts

Totally Len, at least at first.

It starts during their first Christmas at the academy.

Len buys Jim a coconut bra.

Jim wears it proudly, sauntering up and down the dorm hallways and singing Blue Hawaii at the top of his lungs until Len’s burying himself under his blanket and wondering what in the name of god possessed him to think that would be a funny joke, anyway.

After that, it becomes a fierce competition.

Who initiated the first kiss

Len.

When Jim beams back on board after spending a week and a half in a Romulan prison camp, something in Len snaps.

He charges up the steps of the transporter pad, heedless of his audience, and catches Jim hard by the upper arms.

Jim, who’s shirtless and smiling.

Jim, who appears to be remarkably intact.

Jim, who’s eyes are impossibly blue and sparkling.

Jim, who’s bare skin is deliciously warm beneath Len’s palms.

Jim, who is so wonderfully, blessedly alive.

“You stupid, stupid fuck,” Len breathes, and then his lips are on Jim’s.

It’s instinctive, automatic.

Jim’s eyes open wide, and then he’s kissing Len back, feverishly, desperately, clinging to Len like a drowning man, soft little groan humming in his throat.

It goes on for a while. Len curls his body protectively around Jim’s, and Jim melts into him, finally, finally, and it’s like coming home.

“Oh,” says Jim, a little breathless, as Len pulls back.

“Yeah,” Len tells him simply.

And after that, things fall into place.

Who kisses the other awake in the morning

Len, contrary to popular belief, is the early riser of the two. It’s a product of years of early morning surgeries and wonky call schedules; try as he might - and oh, does he try - he has a hard time sleeping in.

It’s a rare thing, on the Enterprise, for them to have a morning together.

Len savors it.

Len lays still as long as he’s able. He counts Jim’s respirations, the steady in and out whoosh of soft breaths that tickle Len’s cheeks and flutter gently through his hair. He numbers the tiny freckles that kiss Jim’s nose, traces the delicate curve of Jim’s eyelashes and the tilt of his jaw.

He lays there and he memorizes Jim, piece by piece, reveling in the stillness of the moment and the heat of Jim’s bare skin on his.

Finally, when he can stand it no longer, Len eases carefully out of bed and replicates a cup of coffee.

He has every intention of letting Jim sleep, of sitting on the edge of the bed with his hand resting on Jim’s shoulder and the latest issue The United Federation Journal of Neurosurgery pulled up on his PADD, but then Jim gives a snuffling little sigh and crinkles his nose just so, and Len is done for.

He slides smoothly back into bed, wrapping his arms and his legs around Jim and starting at the hollow of his neck.

Who starts tickle fights

Jim tries this once.

Only once.

Who asks who if they can join the other in the shower

It is a foregone conclusion that Jim’s gonna follow Len uninvited everywhere.

Into his office.

Into the bathroom.

Into medical staff meetings.

Into supply closets.

Into the shower.

Who surprises the other at work with lunch

Jim tries.

During the academy, he can rarely catch Len. Their schedules never quite seem to jive, and when Jim does occasionally slip out of his Tactics class a little early, Len always seems to be seeing a patient or doing a case.

He manages it just once, in their third year. Len’s shocked to see him, but grateful for the sandwich. They sit huddled in the tiny clinic break room, and if Dr. McCoy seems a little less tense after, “Jim Kirk, my roommate, not my boyfriend,” leaves, well, the nurses don’t say a word.

Later, on the Enterprise, it’s a little easier. Jim typically a has a pretty good idea of what Bones’ schedule looks like, not to mention a direct commlink to the CMO, so they take their lunch breaks together more often than not, usually in Bones’ office.

Bones will never admit it, but it’s the highlight of his day.

Who was nervous and shy on the first date

Jim.

Len’s a bundle of nerves too, but seeing silver-tongued Jim stumbling over his words fixes that real quick. Len’s an utter gentleman by nature, and god, after so long, it’s just so good to finally be with Jim, without pretense or doubt, that Len finds all his apprehension falling away. He’s suave and charismatic, disarming Jim with an easy smile and a southern charm that’s as natural as breathing.

Years later, Jim asks him about it. “Were you not scared, Bones?”

Bones shakes his head. “Of course not,” he says. “I was with you.”

Who kills/takes out the spiders

“Bones.” Jim’s standing at the edge of the room, pointing a shaking finger.

“My god, Jim, it’s just a wolf spider.”

“It’s fuzzy.”

“It eats ants, Jim, not people.”

Jim’s shaking his head emphatically. “I do not care,” he whines. “I want it gone, Bones. Please.”

Bones is laughing now.

“It thinks you’re ugly too, you know,” he’s saying as he reaches with his bare hand. He’s paying more attention to Jim, not the spider.

The spider, who’s back seems to be writhing, pulsing, moving.

Len nudges her gently with a finger, and the babies go swarming, hundreds of them pouring from her back and scurrying across the floor.

Jim shrieks and launches himself on top of his desk. “Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck.”

“Well, I’ll be,” says Len softly, wondering how the hell he’s going to get them all out, now that they’re scattered through the apartment.

It’s a long, long time before Jim forgives him.

Who loudly proclaims their love when they’re drunk

Jim boldly, loudly, unapologetically proclaims his love for Len when he’s drunk.

Len’s a little quieter.

Oh, he’s a shameless flirt, but his words are a little softer, the platitudes a little sweeter. He catches Jim by the waist and calls him beautiful. He nuzzles into the back of Jim’s neck, and he smiles into his skin. “Jim, Jim, Jim,” he whispers, over and over again, running his hands worshipfully over Jim’s chest and shoulders.

Jim is unashamed to admit that these are his favorite nights.

Summary: 'Lance wasn’t sure if he’d imagined the brief tremble at the corner of Keith’s lips or not, that slight stutter that promised a smile. But before he could guess further, Keith gave his knee a shove and got to his feet. He reached out to him, “I’m done here, and I’ve still got some daisies to sell you.”“Yeah,” Lance agreed, looking down at the extended palm, noting the little Saturn tattoo on the inside of Keith’s wrist where the sleeve hiked. He took the hand, “better not overprice those too, you asshole.”’(in which lance is a broke university student trying to impress a pretty girl with flowers, but ends up falling for the florist that sells them instead.)

This is important!

As a studyblr I think we can all agree that education is extremely important. So much so that it is a basic human right. But all too often girls are denied the access to education based on their gender. This is not only a gross violation of the right to education but also to equality and dignity.

We can’t all solve the worlds problems on our own though - I know this all too well. But we can try make a difference when we get the opportunity to.

Jocasta Nu survives that bit with the murder (somehow) and winds up with Rebel Intelligence (where else). Post ANH she ends up teaching Luke and possibly also Leia. Certain truths may get told a sight earlier (cough*Vader*cough). On a completely unrelated note it's not exactly easy for sundry rebels to take Vader seriously anymore due to someone spreading Temple gossip courtesy of the de facto Jedi Grandmother.

Okay but why not go full AU here and drop Jocasta into the Double Agent Vader storyline.

She’s an intelligence agent, of course, and by the time we reach the OT period she’s probably working closely with Mon Mothma herself. And if we assume that Anakin shared a bit of Tatooine culture with her (though far from everything), then she might very well recognize the name Ekkreth. Especially since she already knows that Anakin is Vader.

If Jocasta survived, I think it would be because Anakin failed to kill her in the Temple. Which, realistically, would probably mean he knowingly let her escape. So she knows better than anyone, even Obi-Wan or Yoda, exactly what he did. She was there.

So it’s going to be difficult for her, to say the least. She cared a lot about this kid, and she did what she could to help him without fully understanding the situation and without having regular access to him, and obviously something went horribly wrong. She was there in the Temple. She knows what happened. She knows what he did. It’s not something she can ever forget. Sometimes the thought of it makes her physically ill.

But she also sees what he’s doing now, and she’s perhaps better equipped to work with him than most other members of Alliance Intelligence. When the Inquisitors’ lists of Force sensitive children start coming in, she knows what that means. And when his coded phrases reference Tatooine stories, sometimes she knows what that means, too.

Eventually she sends him a coded message directly. That wouldn’t be completely out of the ordinary - Anakin’s primary Rebel contact is Leia, but sometimes he communicates with Mon Mothma as well. But when he gets this message, he knows it’s not from Mon Mothma. She doesn’t usually send physical deliveries, and she certainly wouldn’t send something like this: a carefully wrapped package of biscuits, with a note included that says “Don’t forget again.” It’s signed “Grandma.”

It’s a pretty big risk, even if there is no directly incriminating information. But Jocasta’s felt alone for a long time now. She has a place in the Rebellion, but most of her life was spent surrounded by other Jedi, and now it’s just her. Just her, and on the rare occasions when they’re stationed on the same base there’s Ahsoka Tano, grown now and insisting she’s not a Jedi. And now Ekkreth, someone she once knew as a boy called Anakin. He’s grown now, too, and it’s no less strange than Ahsoka. She’s used to thinking of both of them as children.

And yes, there’s quite a large part of Jocasta that blames Anakin for the loss of the Order and the Republic. But he’s also the only one left, and sometimes she isn’t sure if she blames him or if she blames the Jedi or even herself. It would be easiest, and maybe best, to simply blame Palpatine, but Jocasta’s learned that logic alone can only get you so far. Her emotions are harder to tame. It’s funny, she thinks bleakly sometimes, that it took the loss of everything she’d ever known and believed for her to start questioning those beliefs.

So she doesn’t know how she feels, really. But a few weeks later, when a delivery arrives for her on the Rebel base on Settra, she lets herself smile about it. There’s a seemingly untouched package of biscuits inside. Beneath every biscuit there’s a datastick. She runs each of them through the decryptions. They’re copies - abbreviated, limited, but there - of the Jedi Archives.

Eventually, she hopes, they’ll meet again in person. She still doesn’t know what she’ll do. But this is something. It’s a beginning.

Next to Normal or Newsies

“Next to Normal” is…

1. Probably the most important piece of musical theatre of the twenty-first century. I am not being hyperbolic. This musical changed the way we looked at and thought about musicals – it was edgy without being sensationalist, funny without being crass, and deeply serious without being preachy or nihilistic. It changed the way musicals sounded with it’s blend of rock AND traditional MT styles while mixing in pop and gospel sounds.  Most importantly, it deals openly and honestly and – dare I say – hopefully with mental illness and grief in a manner that not even straight plays had or have since matched.

2. Amazing and uplifting and deeply relatable because of its treatment of bipolar disorder, depression, addiction, post-partum, and…just mental health in general. Including the impact of these diseases on others WITHOUT making the mentally ill into villains hurting their families with refusal to be well. And then also including the complex, evolving issues of treatment, therapy, and medication. It does all this and still manages to be basically hopeful. To say “keep moving towards the light and it’ll get better or at least you will start to feel better about it with sun on your face”. Instead of going all grim-dark and gritty and ~~realistic~~ by ending on a negative note (which it could easily have done sans “Light” closing number).

3. One of the most legit depictions of a family I have seen on stage. Like, for real. With each person trying to hold the family together in a different way, with the parents torn between being “parents” and being real human people, with the kids torn between wanting to be a part of their messed-up family while also wanting nothing more than to get away from it. Everyone alternating between “Let’s fix it!” and “Maybe if I ignore it, it won’t get worse and please, god, maybe no one will notice what’s wrong with us.”

4. Great music. Lovely to listen to, a joy to sing along to in the car. The mix of quiet little ballads and soaring show-stoppers and funny little patter bits is perfect for any listening/singing/one-woman-car-performing situation.

5. Apparently hard to screw up? Like I’ve seen four productions of various size and budget and casting pools and they were all pretty rad? Is it even possible for this show to suck? Probably not?

Ohoho! I am filled to the brim about humans=space orc ideas! Here's another one lol: we talk to inanimate objects. My cousin does weird tech stuff that I have no idea what any of the jargon she spouts at me is, but the rubber duck idea. Supposedly, idk if it's true or not, when you get stuck with codes or whatever you're supposed to talk to a rubber duck and go thru everything you did in order to find your mistakes. My cousin says it's useful but I don't tech so you can take it as you will lmao.

Okay I actually do this too? It’s really helping me with maths and biology, and I know a lot of other people who do it for other stuff, so it’s probably a Thing™

And I actually have a post about this here, it was one of my first posts on this blob. If you scroll through the notes you’ll also see some quality additions to the post!

30STM West Palm Beach, Fl.

There had been some requests for a review on the Thirty Seconds to Mars + Muse + Pvris first concert, and since I went to it I am more than happy to oblige.

May 20th, 2017.

Bands appearance in order:

1. PVRIS (approximately a 30-45 minute set, they came on stage at 7pm on the dot)

2. Thirty Seconds to Mars (approximately an hour set they came on around 8 pm and were done by 9 pm)

3. Muse (approximately a two hour set, they came on at about 9:15 pm and were done by 10:45 pm as 11 pm was “curfew”)

SETLIST FOR 30STM ONLY:

Up In the Air

Conquistador

This is War

Kings and Queens

The Kill (ACOUSTIC!

Attack (Just the chorus, also acoustic!)

City of Angels

Do or Die (This is where people go on stage)

Closer to the Edge (Last song, this is where people left the stage).

I honestly have nothing but wonderful things to say about my entire experience tonight. Even some nice ladies in front of me said they had been to countless rock and heavy metal concerts but nothing could ever top 30STM for them. AND I AGREE.

This was the stage set up. Huge triad in the back and Jared looking like a Gucci Priest, the usual get up! He had so much energy and he sang very chord with all the passion and willpower in his being. He sounds absolutely amazing live, my words don’t do enough justice for his talent.

He started off with the first four songs in full blast, he played guitar for them and everyone was going absolutely nuts. It wasn’t until 30STM appeared that the crowds stood up to sing and dance and interact with the performers.

During the middle of it before he went to sing The Kill he got off stage and moved to see the people in the back and he sang for them, which was absolutely incredible and sweet. There was no crowd surfing but he pointed out a small child from the audience and asked his name and where he was from and if there were any other kids in the audience, how he did in the last tour. He was very happy and glad to be there, always pumping up the crowd, calling us crazy and loud and fun and all that good stuff. He pointed out that they hadn’t taken the stage in almost two years and how nice it was to be back to perform for his fans.

Lots of dry ice all over the place, but no confetti or balloons.

As to how I got on stage, one of the girls working for them just picked me from where I was sitting before the entire concert started and told me that she would give me a flag to hold for their performance and that during Do or Die and Closer to The Edge I’d be able to go on stage and jump around with him. When City of Angels came on, Shayla gave me a paper to sign (honestly I did’t even read it, I was too in shock, but it must have been a compliance form/contract promising good behavior while I was around Jared and the guys). Then I went back stage and waited for Do or Die and then went up with them until the very end.

Tomo and Shannon were also very powerful in their performances, no faults here in case you guys were wondering.

It had been two years since they performed all together and really they were nothing short of perfect. NO mistakes. They must have been nervous at first but it happens, they’re human.

And I know you guys expected new songs but… honestly I had the time of my life with what they played and everyone else was just as excited about it.

And yes… I know… he was in Gucci and he was sweating in it, but what of it?  I think even Muse came out wearing Gucci?? So don’t think too hard about what he was wearing, because it doesn’t matter, or what he played, if you’re really there for them its worth every dollar, every minute, and every scream that you will let out if you go.

Note: Yes, there was supposed to be a phone call and it was supposed to be at the end of City of Angels but I was backstage already when that happened, so i did not get to see for sure! Sorry!

First Impressions This Season

So it’s a week into this season and every show has had at least one episode now (I think). I’ll go through what I’ve watched and say what I think so far. I guess spoilers for episode 1, but are those really spoilers?

Gabriel Dropout

The premise is that after graduating angel or demon school said angels or demons go to earth and go to school there so that they can learn to be proper angels or proper demons. The main character is a decidedly unangelic angle that gets hooked on online games and becomes a shut in, while the rest of the cast is filled in with characters equally ill suited to their roles. This looks pretty entertaining and it’s basically Doga Kobo doing what they do best. It doesn’t seem like a show that I’m going to remember down the road, but it’s a nice moe SoL to watch. The humor has been pretty good too, so I’ve got decent expectations from it.

Little Witch Academia

I’m super excited for LWA and the first episode was great. The original OVA that was kick started was fantastic and set this all in motion, so that alone is kind of cool to see. I’d call the show a moe SoL, but it’s really a Trigger SoL with moe elements. Is it moe? I don’t even know lol, but I’ve got high expectations for it and I don’t think Trigger is going to let me down. They are good at the over the top crazy, and I think that they can do a great over the top wacky magical shenanigans show. Definitely high hopes for this show.

Kono Subarashii no Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! 2 (Konosuba s2)

That mouthful of a title aside, it’s more konosuba. The animation seems like it’s even more “quality” than last season, but that doesn’t bother me too much. The kinda cobbled together sometimes almost bad animation kinda adds to the show. But there is probably a limit to that and I hope they don’t find it lol. The Star Wars credits were a hilarious way to start off this season, and I hope that it continues to amuse me as much as it has already. I’ve got decent expectations of this show, but I’m not holding out for it to be incredible.

Demi-chan wa Katatirai

The premise of this show is that there are demi humans in the world and the teacher of this school is interested in learning more about them by interviewing them. Naturally a bunch of them end up at his school so this gets to happen. I was a little concerned about the possible weird teacher-student relationships that this sort of show can get into, but after two episodes I don’t think it will be like that at all. The cast seems pretty alright, with Hikari and the teacher being great characters. I’ll watch this show just for Hikari’s antics even if it somehow gets worse. I don’t think this will be an amazing show, but once again a nice cute SoL to fill the time.

Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon

Sort of an unexpected title for Kyoani to be adapting, but it seems to be working so far. The premise is that Tohru (the dragon) becomes Kobayashi’s maid because on a drunken adventure Kobayashi pulled a holy sword out of her and then said she could stay with her. I picked up the first volume of the manga awhile back because buy two get one free sales make me do silly things and I really enjoyed it. There is a nice amount of good jokes and then some just funny moments with Tohru being a dragon and doing dragon things. I expect this to keep me thoroughly entertained, but it probably won’t be one of Kyoani’s truly marvelous show. Gonna be hard to follow Hibike S2 lol.
