there posted :( its not going to get notes :(

I hate it when people say technology is taking away kids’ childhoods
If anything, it’s actually giving kids more of an opportunity to let their imagination out

A lot of times when I let kids play on my phone, they go for the drawing app.
I watched a girl on the bus write a silly poem about her friends and then laugh as she made Siri read it
I hear children say to their friends “hey, FaceTime me later” because they still want to talk face to face even when they’re far away.
I see kids sitting, who would feel lonely and ignored if it weren’t for the fact that they’re texting their friends who are far away.
Children still climb trees. They might just take a selfie from the top to show off how high they’ve gotten.
They can immediately read the next book of their favorite series on their Kindles.
Most kids would still be up for a game of cops and robbers. Or maybe they’d google rules to another game they haven’t played yet.
When children wonder why the sky is blue, they don’t get an exasperated “I don’t know” from tired adults. They can go on Wikipedia and read about light waves and our atmosphere.
They show off the elaborate buildings they created on Minecraft.

Technology isn’t ruining childhoods, it’s enhancing them.

Okay so since I seem determined to tempt fate, as a person not looking forward to the Wonder Woman movie, I decided to try this:

If this post gets 500 notes, I will go see Wonder Woman in theaters, instead of waiting for a torrent.

Its unlikely this will hit anything more than 200. But why not fuck with fate.

I'm really interested in learning Japanese but I'm not really sure where to start with it.

It’s amazing how someone can teach themselves a whole new language by themselves. I self-studied Japanese and never used a textbook. There are so many resources for learning, online and free. You can learn just using the online or free resources listed here and beyond. But where do you start?

First, start with hiragana. There are many ways to learn it.

videos:

Next, learn Katakana

videos:

Next understand more about hiragana like long vowel sounds, muddied sounds, The Small や、ゆ、and よ, the small つ、the long vowel sound with Tae Kim.

Then more with katakana. Learn the long vowel sound and the small ア イ ウ エ オ with Tae Kim again.

Then additional sounds using whatever method helped you learn hiragana and katakana.

Done with all that?  Now, drop romaji. It’s dead to you. A little reluctant? Practice more.

Learn grammar next with vocab and kanji on the side. It’s hard to learn grammar without vocab and it’s hard to learn words without understanding some kanji. I know it’s tough but once you ride it out through grammar learning Japanese becomes much smoother and easier. It’s not as frustrating. It’s so fun.

Grammar

Vocab

  • memrise
  • JLPT N5 vocab list ( recommend learning other JLPT vocab later too)
  • learn the words in the grammar lessons too!
  • Write down new vocab you come across and make flash cards or quizlets to learn them

kanji

Dictionaries

Dictionaries are helpful for vocab and kanji.

  • imiwa?
  • jisho
  • Japanese ( This is my main dictionary)
  • Download Japanese dictionary and Japanese-English dictionary on iPhone in settings, go to dictionary on settings

After all that just keep practicing. Go to your best free resource, your public library and find books in your level, watch videos in Japanese, read manga, watch a film in Japanese etc.

Also, here’s a good masterpost that also lists other good masterposts and more.

Here’s some miscellaneous advice I want to give beforehand I really hope you'll take:

  • Try using the Japanese dictionary the most, not the Japanese-English one but the completely in Japanese definitions of words one. Use Japanese-English when you can’t understand the Japanese definition to help yourself. I found English words given to define Japanese words seem to be similar words or/and words the Japanese word is usually translated in. It’s hard to really understand the word exactly. To really understand the word I find myself having to read the Japanese definitions. This is literally what I give the most credit for my progress in Japanese. ( some good ones are kotobank and goo辞書 as well as the iPhone one.)
  • Learn loan words. Sometimes they aren’t used like the language it originally came from uses it.
  • Understand what radicals are so you use them to look up kanji. Lots of Japanese dictionaries let you look up by radical.
  • Practice stroke order. I mean my handwriting is messy but a least it’s legible and not as messy as it could be.
  • learn Dialects!
  • Some words use a couple different kanjis. Learn the nuances of using those different kanjis in the word.
  • Read news in Japanese
  • learn the culture. It’s impossible to learn Japanese without understanding the culture.
  • learn kanji by learning how its used and vocab. Here’s a post I made about that. It’s the same one above.
  • Change your phone into Japanese.
  • follow Japanese people’s accounts on social media, whether that’s here on Tumblr, Twitter or Instagram.
  • And lastly, Don’t lose yourself to discouragement. Keep going. I can’t tell you how good it felt to watch Jdrama completely in Japanese or read a whole adult novel in Japanese. I could see anyone getting there too. It takes time but it’s very possible.

Followers, feel free to recommend any resource in the notes:)

がんばって!

You know, I’ve received enough notes and asks in response to recent posts that I’m just going to address this one separately: when I’ve been grumping about webcomic scheduling woes, I do not, in fact, mean Homestuck.

Compared to its peers, Homestuck was published extraordinarily quickly for a work of its length. Similarly, the so-called “Gigapause” is by no means exceptional as webcomic hiatuses go.

Y’all are talking like surviving a year off is some sort of Herculean feat.

There are comics - currently updating ones, even! - where we’ve been waiting the better part of two decades for the author to get to the goddamn point.

Some of those plot threads have been dangling longer than many of those reading this post have been alive.

Like, I’m not trying to turn this into a “kids these days” thing, but please, don’t go acting like your fandom is the only one that knows what it is to suffer.

We know.

Oh, gods, we know.

hamilton headcannons - bookstore edition!
  • aaron
    - walks in knowing exactly what he wants
    - only buys one book. john always tries to get him to buy more but aaron insists he already has too many (which isn’t true; he doesn’t have many books because he likes to reread the same ones over and over)
    - he also likes to note lines/sections that he really likes with multi-colored post it notes. the more post its a book has, the more often he rereads it
  • john
    - will go directly to the graphic novel/comic book section
    - ends up on the floor surrounded by comics
    - spends the entire time reading them and ends up buying every one
    - if he has the funds he usually will buy a book or two regarding social issues ( he doesn’t stock up though because he’ll sneak one from angelica’s collection here and there)
  • lafayette
    - usually interested in the biography section
    - grabs a handful that seem interesting to him (sometimes he’ll find several biographies on the same person)
    - often shares fun facts abt the people he reads about at random times (“did you know frida kahlo could drink any man under the table?”)
    - finds a corner to read the first few chapters of each one
    - only ends up buying one but writes down the names of the rest so he can come back and buy them
    - if he’s done before everyone else he’ll get a coffee at the café with peggy
  • hercules
    - wanders around the store for a little while
    - makes his way to the kids section
    - ends up sitting on a colorful carpet and reads children’s books to the kids (he spends the entire time back there)
    - his favorites are the quiet noisy book and any Dr. Seuss book
    - he always uses different voices for each character in the book (he gets really into it - the kids love listening to him read and some parents even join in to listen too)
  • alexander
    - spends so much time in the store
    - gets a few books from every genre
    - ends up spending way too much money in one trip
    - his bookshelves are already overflowing yet he promises that he’ll read every book (he won’t)
    - he prefers nonfiction but will sometimes find an amazing fiction book that he rereads over and over
    - angelica scolds him, telling him he’s “wasting his money” (alex ignores her but deep down knows she’s right) (she always is)
  • george
    - is basically in the same boat as aaron
    - knows what he wants, buys it, and is done
    - sits beside aaron and reads while everyone else is busy
    - disapproves of aaron’s pick, calling it “boring” (little does he know aaron secretly bought a romance novel to read at home but he doesn’t want anyone to know about it. the notebook is a weakness of his)
  • eliza
    - looks at the poetry section for a while
    - she prefers really old poetry and spends afternoons deciphering their meaning
    - rarely ends up buying much
    - she already has plenty at home and even has a list of what book to read next (also ang lets eliza borrow from her stock whenever she likes)
    - after she finds what she wants she’ll go to the kids section and listen to herc read with the kids
    - she picks out more kids’ books and stacks them up beside herc
  • angelica
    - actually doesn’t need to buy any books
    - usually brings extra money in the case that her sisters don’t have enough
    - brings the book she’s in the middle of with her
    - spends some time looking around and writes down the names of ones she’s interested in so she can borrow them from the library later on
    - owns every single classic novel (little women, pride and prejudice, etc.)
    - has lots of books about social issues/feminism
    - goes b/c she enjoys the atmosphere of bookstores
    - also b/c she loves the sound of new book spines cracking
  • peggy
    - goes to the café first
    - gets a really fancy drink
    - looks for books with fun covers and reads the summaries in the front covers of each
    - ends up only choosing one because she spent too much money on her overpriced frappucino
    - while in line she’ll probably pick up some colorful pens
    - goes back to the café to read her book or draw designs on laf’s arms with her new pens
AriA’s File

Okay, what is the deal with Aria’s file? What on earth could be her secret? A secret that would put EZRA in jail, and make him pick Nicole over her?

AD says the following to Aria:

“Jessica DiLaurentis kept excellent records. If Ezra knew what was in your file he would definitely choose Nicole, and she would be visiting him in jail.”

Why would something …

  • in ARIAs file
  • put EZRA in jail
  • AND have him pick Nicole

???????????

One thing we know for sure is it had to be something that happened BEFORE Jessica’s murder, since it is something Jessica found out.

This can be interpreted in two ways:

  1. Jessica DiLaurentis found something incriminating about Ezra that Aria has kept a secret. But…. why would Ezra hate Aria because of it? Why would Ezra blame Aria if this came out? What is she willing to keep secret about Ezra that she would go against her best friends for? Does Aria know a secret about Ezra that if it came out would put him in jail? Okay, there are a few possibilities here, but why would it make Ezra choose Nicole over Aria? Thats the part I just dont understand. Ezra could be upset that Jessica found out something about him, but why would it make him give up his love for Aria???
  2. Jessica found out something about Aria that would cause Ezra to hate her and to do something that would put him in jail….Is this signifying that Ezra would kill Aria if he found out this secret?

I feel like the following photo is significant. The 4 glasses represent the four main girls, Spencer, Hanna, Aria & Emily.

By shattering a glass, it is a symbol that she is no longer one of them, that she is going against the group to protect whatever is in her file.

The girls have always stuck together, so it has to be something HUGE if she is willing to go over to the dArk side.

(Side Note: I swear to GOD if Marlene messes this up and its something stupid Im going to jump off a cliff)

There has always been something sketchy about Aria. I’ve written a million posts about it and don’t want to go through every little thing again because we’ll be here all day, but I do want to go over a few significant things.

  • Aria and Eddie Lamb

When Aria goes into Radley to get info on Bethany’s old roommate, Eddie Lamb recognizes her and says he feels like they have met before. Aria acts REALLY BIZARRE in this scene. She is obviously hiding something. She has some kind of connection to Radley Sanitarium.

———————

  • Aria and Jason

A part of me has always believed that Jason is A. I have written theories about it. He has always had a thing for Aria. The weirdest thing was when he had all of those close-up photos of her sleeping. He claimed Alison took them-but I just dont buy that. And later A had the same photos in his/her lair.

Then there is a very similar scene in later seasons, of Aria hanging up her creepy doll photographs in a dark room. It is a parallel to when Jason is in the darkroom with the pictures of her.

Its possible that whatever is in her file has something to do with Jason. This could lead in to why it would cause Ezra to choose Nicole over Aria.

—————————

  • Aria and Mona

What the hell did Aria whisper to Mona at this moment that had her running scared?????? Aria and Mona have always had an interesting relationship and suspicious conversations.

—————————-

  • The Dollhouse

Aria had the mannequin family framed in her Dollhouse bedroom. The look on her face seems to convey that she KNOWS SOMETHING. Who/why they were taken there.

————

There are so many crazy possibilities as to what is in Aria’s file. The last few episodes of the show have really depressed me. I’ve been majorly disappointed in the writing and reveals. I am really hoping they give us something shocking and amazing for Aria’s secret.

Fingers crossed.

the nacho rebranding

nacho here! it’s about time i revealed my main blog. i’d like to reply to posts, too! but i have an ulterior motive: i’ve recently turned my main blog into an art-only blog. what this means is that i’ll be posting original art (including very low quality caretaker shitposts) on that blog… and lots of monster ladies! maybe some non-caretaker-related undertale fanart, too.

in the future there will probably be tasteful (non-sexual) nudity, so keep that in mind if you decide to follow.

check me out @ eruto.tumblr.com!

you know whats really been pissing me off lately? people who judge fans of youtubers

Saying that we’re “cringey” for blogging about the egos or writing our own HCs for them, posting these incredible edits and fanart that take hours/days/weeks to make, using our imaginations and awesome writing skills to create thousand-word-long theories, or just coming up with the most creative content i have ever seen on a website.

and these people can just diminish that in a heartbeat, they pounce on us like fuckn wolves and say that we’re the “cancer” of youtube and the youtubers should be embarrassed of us…. but thats such a load of bullshit?? like christ sorry that we’re having fun all while being a positive community n not causing harm to others !!!

but the worst part is if you try to stop the hate, you get told to “kill yourself” and if you argue back ?? you get labeled as a crazed fan and get the shit trolled out of you by anons bc some big blog rb’s a post where it says “kill tumblr user @_______” and sends their goon followers after u and the after effect of that lasts for days, weeks, months. You completely lose the feeling of safety and no longer want to post what makes you happy bc you’re afraid you’re going to get more hate

idk what the point of this was honestly im just getting real tired of assholes shitting on everything the community does and i know theres no point in getting upset and i should just grow a thicker skin but its just absolute bullshit that these pricks can get hundreds of thousands of notes on posts that are making fun of us. im done with the hate.

please kill the idea of “cringe” culture and let people have fun n be happy like the world is awful enough let this be a safe place for us

Why you should play Code Realize: Guardian of Rebirth

anonymous asked:

I love your blog and I constantly look to it for advice but I have a bit of an issue Can you give a few tips on forming good study habits? I've never really had to study and I've managed to keep good grades my entire life. I just started uni and I'm starting to struggle with work and keeping up with everything. Struggling academically and studying are both new things to me and I really regret being too arrogant to form good habits earlier

Studying Tips

1. Study schedule. Before you even start studying, sit down and plan out your time. Print out some weekly templates and physically write out your time schedule. Don’t schedule studying time during unproductive hours like early in the morning or late at night. Make sure to spend an equal amount of time on all your subjects (even the ones you “know” already) and to revisit each subject as many times as possible.

2. 90 Minutes. 90 minutes is the absolute maximum that you should study without taking a break. Over 90 minutes, and your ability to retain information is lost. Don’t push yourself! Take a break and come back to it later.

3. Make flashcards. You probably already have some lying around your room, if you don’t they cost like $2 at CVS. These are absolutely necessary for finals with lots of vocabulary (like History or English). See my flashcard procedure below!

4. Neat. You’re going to be starring at this study material for a long time- you might as well make it as clean and easy to read as possible! Rewrite any notes that were scribbled hastily. Make your study notes look like Mona Lisa!

5. Colorful. Highlight only what is absolutely necessary and study that, so that you won’t waste time studying what’s not important. Also, color code everything! Your Calculus notes are blue, so that it doesn’t get mixed up with English 102, which is green.

6. Post-its. Want another way to memorize vocab? Write words and definitions on post-it notes and stick them around your apartment/house/dorm. I like to put them in my bathroom so I have to stare at them while on the toilet, on the fridge at eye level, and by light switches.

7. Separate subjects. Don’t try to cram all of your subjects into one study session, especially unrelated subjects like Art History and Accounting. Take one study session to work through Art and one for Accounting, and so on.

8. Review before going to bed. Studies have shown that studying directly before bedtime does help us memorize things better. While studying before sleeping may not be a completely conducive process for you, try to incorporate some reviewing before you close your eyes. Go over vocabulary in your head, recite formulas, etc.

9. Study over time. Don’t try to study for all of your finals in one shot! Spread your studying over as much time as possible. Go back and review subjects that you already feel confident about.

10. Avoid the anxious atmosphere. I’ve always hated that anxious atmosphere that develops around people who are about take finals. You know- one of your classmates will be crying, another rocking back and forth while listening to music, yet another pacing up and down anxiously trying to memorize last minute equations. You don’t need to be distracted by all this anxiousness- you’ve already prepared as much as you possibly can! Unless you have somebody who is calm and willing to work through flashcards with you, avoid your classmates like the plague!

Flash Cards Procedure

This is my personal favorite way to study with flash cards!

1. Learn the first flashcard, recite the answer out loud and place the flashcard down in a pile.

2. Learn the second flash card, reciting its answer out loud.

3. Before finishing with the second flash card, turn back to the first flash card and recite the first flash card’s answer out loud.

4. Put both cards down in their own pile.
Move on to the third flashcard, reciting its answer out loud.

5. Then recite the answers for both the first and second flashcard, before adding the third card to the pile.

6. Continue on this way, reviewing the answers to the previous cards before moving on to the next card.

This may seem super redundant, but it really works and got me through my History of Music 2 final which included 100 short answer vocabulary questions!

You tried your best to wear something nice to dinner that night. When you told Bucky you agreed he was more than willing to be your pretend husband in front of Tony and Pepper. You two had been doing it for a week already but this was different. Now you had to pretend to be happily married and not on the verge of divorce.

Steve offered to watch the kids and you were relieved because the next person who would ask would be Natasha and you loved your kids way too much to put them through a night of her.

Natasha did protest when Bucky said he was going out for dinner with you but Bucky simply said that after the ‘divorce’ he wasn’t going to see me much of you anymore and that worried you.

You hadn’t thought about that, what would happen after this vacation. You guys couldn’t just go back to being normal best friends. If Bucky stayed with Natasha you would lose him for good. That wasn’t something you were prepared for.

The Problem With Studyblr

Or rather, the community.
This has been mulling in my mind for a while and I just can’t seem to articulate it the way I want.

The studyblr community has two, but very intertwined, vibes. On one hand you’re met with open arms and encouragement, yet on the other… You soon come to find there’s an obvious sense of a “hierarchy”.

Of course to “be a studyblr”, you don’t need fancy pens or a MacBook or look picture perfect while you finish your essay in a Starbucks a week early from its due date, with your 4.2 GPA and enrollment at Harvard.“ Youve seen these posts I come across them constantly. You don’t need any materialistic thing to be a studyblr. And yet there’s a fine print. “You’re not going to be a popular/liked studyblr without these things.” But it shouldn’t matter! Studyblr is about the betterment of your education. But the community has turned materialistic and note-hungry. Cranking out the same, no longer helpful masterposts for the sake of gaining popularity and notes, copying the “popular” blog’s stationary to get a leg up, it’s all such a mess!

Hardly anyone posts about their failures or “non aesthetic” lives, and the ones that do are often left alone. There’s so much pressure to be “the best”. Be that academically or aesthically, or even in terms of Tumblr popularity.

So I’m going to make it my personal mission to reblog more than just strictly “aesthic” pictures of stationery and MacBooks. I’ll rebloging others notes and such, but I really want to practice what I preach. To all “unseen” studyblr out there, I love you dude. Keep it up. Come to me with anything.

Who said “I love you” first

Jim.

Just in casual conversation.

They’re just shooting the bull in Bones’ office. Sickbay is slow today, and Jim’s not on bridge duty until beta. They’re only a week into whatever this is, but after spending years in each others’ pockets and six months in deep space, there’s nothing unusual about seeing the captain in sickbay or the CMO on the bridge, and the conversation is easy, comfortable. Jim’s got his feet propped on Bones’ couch, and Bones is sprawled haphazardly across his desk, swinging his left foot and sipping a cup of coffee.

“I’ve got seven in engineering that are late on their vaccination schedule,” Bones is saying. “So, I’ll be handling that fallout later today.” He shakes his head and makes a mental note to check Jim’s record. “I don’t know what it is about engineers, Jim. It’s just a damn hypo.”

“Hey, Bones,” says Jim suddenly. He sits up on the couch, as if the thought has only just occurred to him. “I love you.”

It surprises Len.

In fact, Len doesn’t even answer, he’s so shocked.

In fact, Len spends the next 30 seconds or so hacking and sputtering on the coffee he’d inhaled.

“Jesus, Bones, I just professed my undying devotion to you,” Jim laughs. “Try not to die on me, okay?”

“I’ll… I’ll have your records transferred to M’Benga,” Len says when he can finally speak.

Jim just rolls his eyes.

Who would have the other’s picture as their phone background

The background of Len’s PADD is solid black. Anything else distracts him as he’s trying to read.

The background on Jim’s PADD is a picture of the bridge crew on their most recent shore leave.

They’re on a beach. The sand is fine and black, the sky painted in streaks of soft oranges and greens. Jim’s grinning widely, holding a sprawling Chekov in his arms. Bones has his arms folded across his chest, but the tiny grin that tugs at the corner of his lips and his dancing eyes give him away. Sulu and Scotty are both in mid-air, Scotty’s face screwed up in concentration, Hikaru’s arms and legs outstretched like an exuberant starfish. Nyota’s got hold of one of Pav’s feet, and she’s laughing. Spock looks particularly relaxed, one hand resting delicately on Ny’s shoulder.

It’s Jim’s second favorite picture ever.

When he activates his device, though, the background changes.

This one is of Bones.

It’s a rare moment. Jim had snapped a photo of Bones on that same shore leave, on that same beach. It’s rocky, here. Bones is propped on a large white stone, weight resting on one hand, the other arm slung easily over his knee. He’s looking over the water, away from the camera. He’s shirtless, still damp from swimming, hair mussed from the wind. He’d been completely heedless of Jim’s presence, relaxed and utterly at peace, a soft little smile dancing on his lips.

It’s the only candid picture of Bones that Jim has, and Jim will never, ever change his background to anything else.

Who leaves notes written in fog on the bathroom mirror

Jim likes to leave notes for Len everywhere, not just in foggy mirrors. In fact, Jim has a bundle of old school yellow sticky notes that he uses for exactly this purpose.

It starts in the academy.

Jim leaves an occasional note for Len to find. Len’s confused by them, at first.

He thinks, at first, that it must be some sort of strange recall technique, a weird study habit that Jim had picked up from… somewhere.

When they start to pile up, Len decides that enough is enough. He gathers them up and stuffs them in a spare shoebox. He tosses the box under his bed, thinking Jim can ask for them, if he needs them.

It’s not long before he has quite the collection.

The notes never say anything important, sometimes a random word - “Vagarious,” or “Apoptosis,” or “Jumentous.” Sometimes it’s a quote. Jim’s got an astounding repertoire of collected wisdom, Len learns, referencing everyone from Mark Twain to Surak to Lady Gaga. Sometimes it’s just a garbled, out-of-context sentence - “I do not know where family doctors acquired illegibly perplexing handwriting,” - and occasionally, Jim sketches.

He sketches everything, little scenes from his day, Len’s medkit, a PADD, a discarded bottle of brandy. Jim’s not an artist, not by a long shot, but his subjects are instantly recognizable to Len, if a little cartoonish.

Len finds a few of himself. One in particular that he’s pretty confused by.

He’s sleeping, he can recognize this by the scattering of zzzz’s that surround his face and his (over-exaggerated, Len thinks) mussed hair.

This note is labeled.

“Lips,” it says.

Len furrows his brow at this one, but adds it to his box, anyway. It’s just a habit, by now, his automatic response.

At the beginning of second year, when Jim’s Survival Strategies field study group goes missing, Len finds himself sitting on his bed with the box in his lap.

Jim’s been gone for days. Len’s hounded and hounded administration, and gets the same deferral every time. “We have no information to disclose,” they say.

Len takes the notes out of the box one by one and just stares.

The depth of emotion that they evoke, the ridiculous sentences punctuated by stark wisdom - “Gary eats lots of pies,” juxtaposed with, “It is paradoxical, yet true, to say, that the more we know, the more ignorant we become in the absolute sense,” - the surprisingly elegant script, it all brings Len to his knees, and in that moment, Leonard McCoy quits fooling himself.

He’s in love with Jim Kirk.

Jim, of course, comes sauntering back into the apartment at 3 am that morning, unkempt and sleep-deprived, but otherwise totally fine.

And Len can breathe again.

He doesn’t say anything about the notes, but he starts to look forward to them. He’s keeping them intentionally now, storing them up for the one awful, inevitable day when Jim doesn’t come back to him.

“It’s just part of the game, Bones,” Jim’s words echo in his thoughts. “Command is all about sacrifice.”

Len feels a little guilty about it, like he’s doing something he shouldn’t, like he’s harboring a dirty secret by hoarding away little pieces of the man who will inevitably break him. Loving Jim Kirk is like loving a streak of lightning - blazing, brilliant, blinding and beautiful, but gone far too soon, and leaving a trail of devastation in its wake.

Len knows he’s going to get burned, but he keeps the notes anyway.

Later, after the boys fucking finally sort things out and Len pulls his head out of his ass, it becomes a game to Jim, leaving sappy post-its around sickbay for Bones to find.

And Len saves them.

Every single one.

Who buys the other cheesy gifts

Totally Len, at least at first.

It starts during their first Christmas at the academy.

Len buys Jim a coconut bra.

Jim wears it proudly, sauntering up and down the dorm hallways and singing Blue Hawaii at the top of his lungs until Len’s burying himself under his blanket and wondering what in the name of god possessed him to think that would be a funny joke, anyway.

After that, it becomes a fierce competition.

Who initiated the first kiss

Len.

When Jim beams back on board after spending a week and a half in a Romulan prison camp, something in Len snaps.

He charges up the steps of the transporter pad, heedless of his audience, and catches Jim hard by the upper arms.

Jim, who’s shirtless and smiling.

Jim, who appears to be remarkably intact.

Jim, who’s eyes are impossibly blue and sparkling.

Jim, who’s bare skin is deliciously warm beneath Len’s palms.

Jim, who is so wonderfully, blessedly alive.

“You stupid, stupid fuck,” Len breathes, and then his lips are on Jim’s.

It’s instinctive, automatic.

Jim’s eyes open wide, and then he’s kissing Len back, feverishly, desperately, clinging to Len like a drowning man, soft little groan humming in his throat.

It goes on for a while. Len curls his body protectively around Jim’s, and Jim melts into him, finally, finally, and it’s like coming home.

“Oh,” says Jim, a little breathless, as Len pulls back.

“Yeah,” Len tells him simply.

And after that, things fall into place.

Who kisses the other awake in the morning

Len, contrary to popular belief, is the early riser of the two. It’s a product of years of early morning surgeries and wonky call schedules; try as he might - and oh, does he try - he has a hard time sleeping in.

It’s a rare thing, on the Enterprise, for them to have a morning together.

Len savors it.

Len lays still as long as he’s able. He counts Jim’s respirations, the steady in and out whoosh of soft breaths that tickle Len’s cheeks and flutter gently through his hair. He numbers the tiny freckles that kiss Jim’s nose, traces the delicate curve of Jim’s eyelashes and the tilt of his jaw.

He lays there and he memorizes Jim, piece by piece, reveling in the stillness of the moment and the heat of Jim’s bare skin on his.

Finally, when he can stand it no longer, Len eases carefully out of bed and replicates a cup of coffee.

He has every intention of letting Jim sleep, of sitting on the edge of the bed with his hand resting on Jim’s shoulder and the latest issue The United Federation Journal of Neurosurgery pulled up on his PADD, but then Jim gives a snuffling little sigh and crinkles his nose just so, and Len is done for.

He slides smoothly back into bed, wrapping his arms and his legs around Jim and starting at the hollow of his neck.

Who starts tickle fights

Jim tries this once.

Only once.

Who asks who if they can join the other in the shower

It is a foregone conclusion that Jim’s gonna follow Len uninvited everywhere.

Into his office.

Into the bathroom.

Into medical staff meetings.

Into supply closets.

Into the shower.

Who surprises the other at work with lunch

Jim tries.

During the academy, he can rarely catch Len. Their schedules never quite seem to jive, and when Jim does occasionally slip out of his Tactics class a little early, Len always seems to be seeing a patient or doing a case.

He manages it just once, in their third year. Len’s shocked to see him, but grateful for the sandwich. They sit huddled in the tiny clinic break room, and if Dr. McCoy seems a little less tense after, “Jim Kirk, my roommate, not my boyfriend,” leaves, well, the nurses don’t say a word.

Later, on the Enterprise, it’s a little easier. Jim typically a has a pretty good idea of what Bones’ schedule looks like, not to mention a direct commlink to the CMO, so they take their lunch breaks together more often than not, usually in Bones’ office.

Bones will never admit it, but it’s the highlight of his day.

Who was nervous and shy on the first date

Jim.

Len’s a bundle of nerves too, but seeing silver-tongued Jim stumbling over his words fixes that real quick. Len’s an utter gentleman by nature, and god, after so long, it’s just so good to finally be with Jim, without pretense or doubt, that Len finds all his apprehension falling away. He’s suave and charismatic, disarming Jim with an easy smile and a southern charm that’s as natural as breathing.

Years later, Jim asks him about it. “Were you not scared, Bones?”

Bones shakes his head. “Of course not,” he says. “I was with you.”

Who kills/takes out the spiders

“Bones.” Jim’s standing at the edge of the room, pointing a shaking finger.

“My god, Jim, it’s just a wolf spider.”

“It’s fuzzy.”

“It eats ants, Jim, not people.”

Jim’s shaking his head emphatically. “I do not care,” he whines. “I want it gone, Bones. Please.”

Bones is laughing now.

“It thinks you’re ugly too, you know,” he’s saying as he reaches with his bare hand. He’s paying more attention to Jim, not the spider.

The spider, who’s back seems to be writhing, pulsing, moving.

Len nudges her gently with a finger, and the babies go swarming, hundreds of them pouring from her back and scurrying across the floor.

Jim shrieks and launches himself on top of his desk. “Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck.”

“Well, I’ll be,” says Len softly, wondering how the hell he’s going to get them all out, now that they’re scattered through the apartment.

It’s a long, long time before Jim forgives him.

Who loudly proclaims their love when they’re drunk

Jim boldly, loudly, unapologetically proclaims his love for Len when he’s drunk.

Len’s a little quieter.

Oh, he’s a shameless flirt, but his words are a little softer, the platitudes a little sweeter. He catches Jim by the waist and calls him beautiful. He nuzzles into the back of Jim’s neck, and he smiles into his skin. “Jim, Jim, Jim,” he whispers, over and over again, running his hands worshipfully over Jim’s chest and shoulders.

Jim is unashamed to admit that these are his favorite nights.

so I have this dumb fic idea where taako gets sick (bc I’m sick rn and if I have to suffer then so does he) and gets a fever and krav Freaks Out bc he hasn’t been mortal in centuries?? How does one take care of people?? plus who knows how elves are different

and uhh this is either before suffering game and taako refuses the help of the other thb for some reason or it’s post canon and lup and barry are unavailable (they’re on a high stakes mission and krav keeps getting their fantasy voicemail)

I can’t seem to make this work into a fic but I wanted to put the idea out there
