there is no point to this story actually

When did Lucy fall in love with Natsu?

There’s been so many essay-like posts around tumblr talking about when and where Natsu first realised he was in love with Lucy, but I’ve never actually seen any regarding when Lucy’s feelings started. So I thought I’d share my own opinionated theory!

I feel as though Lucy’s feelings for Natsu took a lot longer for her to realise than Natsu’s, so let’s start from the beginning:

Episodes 1-50:

At this point, the story as well as Natsu and Lucy’s relationship is very much in the starting stages; there simply isn’t a whole lot to it. Neither of them have even considered a relationship, especially not with each other. Lucy may have her “knight in shining armour” fantasies, (as we see in ending 1 of the anime), but that is the most we get.

Episode 50:

Episode 50 is where things start to get more interesting.

After the hilarious scenario of Lucy believing Natsu has a crush on her because of Mira’s meddling, she has now become self aware of the fact people mistake her and Natsu as a couple. Because of this, she starts to picture it in her mind and perhaps imagine what it would be like if they were in a relationship.

Again, though, this is still very early stages in their development, so she will continue to deny any sort of feelings for Natsu.

Episode 122:

The Tenrou Island arc in general was a huge step for NaLu’s relationship, especially on Natsu’s part as that was when (as many of us have speculated) he first realised he was in love with Lucy. Sadly, though, Lucy is nowhere near the love stage at this point.

During Acnologia’s attack in episode 122, Lucy is crying because she thinks it’s all over. Naturally Natsu overhears this, and of course the first thing he does is reassure her that it isn’t the end.

Now, I think the look Lucy gives Natsu after saying this is really significant:

This isn’t a look of love or anything, as I said earlier we’re still far from Lucy being in love with Natsu. Rather, this is her beginning to toy with the idea of liking Natsu. In this moment she cannot confidently say “I like Natsu”, but she is far more aware of it, and knows deep down that there is a slight possibility it could happen. However, at this stage she will still continue to deny any feelings for him.

Episode 123-End of Tartaros Arc

I know this is a really big time jump, but the end of Tartaros is where things start to pick up. Throughout this time, Natsu and Lucy’s characters and relationship develops immensely. I’m not going to dish out every example otherwise we’d be here for weeks, but it’s safe to say Lucy’s feelings have begun to develop, although she is still on the fence of “Do I like him” or “Is he just a friend”.

Chapter 468:

I’m going to skip the beginning of the Alvarez arc, because I know we’ve all heard the theories and opinions on Lucy’s angst a million times, and although their relationship does develop, it’s not enough for me to talk about. After all, a lot of those chapters illustrated Natsu’s feelings more than Lucy’s.

Chapter 468 is when Lucy’s feelings take a huge step forward. For those unaware, Natsu had gone off on his own, (with Happy), to try and defeat Zeref, and Lucy has basically spent most of her time worrying about him.

A few chapters later, (Chapter 468), Happy returns to the guild, but Natsu is unconscious, and Lucy’s face says it all:

Then she realises that Natsu’s heart isn’t beating:

And begs Brandish to save him:

Natsu being faced with death is the last thing Lucy would expect from a war. After all, he’s one of the strongest wizards she knows. So for him to be lying there in front of her, unconscious and his heart not beating, Lucy is absolutely terrified.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is the point where Lucy realises that she likes Natsu, because she cannot picture a world without him in it. After over a year of contemplation, she has finally reached the conclusion that she likes her best friend, meaning she would gladly consider a relationship with him, if it weren’t for the current circumstances, of course.

She isn’t in love with him yet, she simply wouldn’t mind the idea of a relationship. Of course she will still deny her feelings because she doesn’t want people to know, after all she’s only just figured it out herself, however you will notice she is definitely less upfront about it:

Of course she gets flustered and blushes over it, however she doesn’t explicitly deny it. Now, this could just be a translation error, I don’t have access to official translations, so please don’t quote me on it, but in this frame she’s simply saying that wasn’t what she meant, not that she isn’t, (as quoted by Ever), “head over heels for him”. See, she isn’t denying that she likes him, but she isn’t exactly singing on the rooftops that she has feelings for him. Remember, this is all still very new to her.

Now, throughout the rest of the Alvarez arc, you can see that Lucy is incredibly protective over Natsu:

This protectiveness is Lucy’s feelings developing more and more. She knows that she likes Natsu, and therefore will now be even more worried about the possibility of losing him, and wants to continuously protect him at all costs, as we can see from the screenshots.

Chapter 545:

Like I said at the beginning of this opinion/theory, Lucy takes a lot longer to comprehend her feelings for Natsu, which is why I believe that she only realises that she is in love with him in the final chapter.

I did a whole other opinion/theory explaining what each NaLu panel in the final chapter means, so I’m not gonna go into loads of detail here. (If you want to read that theory click here #shamelessselfpromo)

ANYWAY, I think the moment Lucy finally realises she loves Natsu is here:

Memories come flooding back to her old jobs with Natsu. All these memories cause this sudden realisation that her feelings for Natsu are far more than just “I like him”. She loves him. She’s spent such a long time toying with her feelings and throwing them back and forth, that shes finally figured out that she can’t keep throwing them around forever. She needs to come to that conclusion and she finally has.

Granted, she has only come to this realisation, so she’s not just going to burst out and say “I love you”, but she does do something equally as meaningful:

She hugs him. I touched on what this hug means in my other theory, so again I’m not going to go into heaps of detail, but I will say this. Lucy is new to romance. As is Natsu. Neither of them are just going to say “I love you” because it just isn’t like them to do something that stereotypical of two people in love. This hug is her way of expressing her love for Natsu.

What happens next is controversial. Every single person has a different opinion on it but I’m just going to say it how I believe it.

Natsu was going to kiss Lucy. You may be asking “well if Lucy loves Natsu why did she stutter and say wait?”. You have to remember and keep in mind that Lucy has only just realised that she is in love with him. Her feelings are all over the place and it is all so new to her. It’s all a big shock and a lot to take in, so of course she’s going to stutter and be all nervous; this is her first time feeling this way about anyone. However, because she is aware that she is in love with him, she doesn’t push him away, she doesn’t try to get out of his grip. Instead, she closes her eyes and opens her mouth. She wants Natsu to kiss her.

Of course we know that there was no kiss, but I think the most important thing here is that she would have gladly accepted the kiss and would not have regretted it, because she is in love with Natsu.

So that’s it! It’s annoying to think that Lucy took painfully longer to realise her feelings than Natsu did, but I truly believe that this was the moment she knew that she was in love with him.

As I said before I’ve never really seen any posts regarding Lucy’s feelings towards Natsu, or if I have they haven’t been in immense detail, so this was really fun to write and figure out!

Let me know what you all think <3

That yuri anime you reblogged honestly looks like hentai :/ i dont see how thats for lgbt people, honestly it looks like fanservice for dudes

you’re talking about dragon maid im guessing?? this is an interesting conversation because what does ‘fanservice for dudes’ even mean at this point??? like- if im attracted to it and its lesbians doesn’t that make it for me as well?? at the very least? sure theres some blushies and shiny cheeks and lips but does that really make it hentai?????

when things start to get a little more than innocent people are always like UGH FANSERVICE FOR DUDES but to me it doesn’t always feel like that. lesbians are allowed to have steamy romances just like any other gender pairing and it can still be for lesbians. the scene feels real to me so i really like it. the points of view are actually pretty unique for a scene like this written by a guy. tohru is infatuated with sleepy kobayashi in a wrinkly old BUTTON UP on a warm morning, theres no tiddy bounces, no panty shots, just kobayashi’s cute little leggies <3

most of the scene is concentrating on their expressions, and alot of it is tohrus eyes and on kobayashi’s blank face because with their story we aren’t supposed to know what she’s thinking- as far as steamy scenes go its honestly pretty innocent and actually fits with the plot. the dumb tiddy bounces lucoa does- yes feels like more fanservice for dudes but kobayashi and tohru have always felt more good and organic to me so im a fan

also i make dumb dragon maid amvs and shit on youtube and my viewers on those particular videos are 90% girls- so ALOT of girls are watching these scenes… and if girls are watching it its for girls?? i dont know how to say this more clearly haha- i don’t like it when as soon as things get a tinY bit sexual people say its for guys. no, i want this to be for me. i like it. its not validating for lesbians to have to make all their content innocent and UWU because its not realistic- we have more feelings than that

Hi:) I'd just like to say, I used to be a casual viewer of the show. Emphasis on "used to" because now I'm completely obsessed with it largely because of the beautiful dean and cas story line, that I think could not be more obvious. I'm always caught off guard when people say they don't notice it. It actually baffles me lol

IKR! We all used to be casual viewers at some point…. I thought I was, then somehow a year later ….

You are literally my favourite writer on this site. Whenever I'm feeling really overwhelmed reading your stories just let's me relax and focus in on one point which really calms me down (very similar to what actually watching Thomas Sanders does for me), so Thank You❤❤Also angst with a happy ending is like my default mood, so your stories feed my cravings.

Oh gosh, I’ve been compared to Thomas????? Life. Goals. Achieved.

Seriously, this means so very much to me! I can’t even tell you how much I appreciate this message, and all the others like it you guys send me. Like. I cry? And it is of happy.

I’m so glad you’re finding comfort in my stories!!!!!

Nocturne: My brother actually kissed you though?

Caramel: Well – I kind of kissed him, but–

Nocturne: Oh, wow.

Caramel: Please don’t think I’m like, picking him over you or anything! I mean, the whole point of this thing is to be friends with you, so–

Nocturne: Don’t worry about it. I mean, honestly, I’d expect my best friend to get along with my family, and I mean… you’re obviously getting along fine with my brother…. Just remember that he doesn’t get a say in who stays and who goes, so–

Caramel: Oh, I know that! Just… do you mind not mentioning this to the other contestants?

Nocturne: Of course not. Your secret’s safe with me… now should we go see about some karaoke?

Caramel: If we have to. I’m not much of a singer.

Nocturne: [laughing] Me, either. My sister got all the musical genes in the family. We can be terrible together!

All right, I am calling it a night on the editing (the last day to make changes is today, anyway, so in true fashion I am working right up to the deadline).  I am…content where my story stands.  I’m sure I could polish it more, but I’m at the point where any further changes would just be nitpicking, so I am letting it rest.

*collapses into a pile of pillows*

The summer of the “omfg, what the hell sort of projects did @dizzy-redhead rope me into now?” is finally complete.

*mwah* Love you, darlin’. ;)

And now, on to the job hunting…or making that spreadsheet of all my open WIPs in the hopes that I can actually make progress on one of them.  Either or.

I'm very confused on your last point in your post?

an exhaustingly common argument justifying the excessive and insensitive use of various forms of sexual violence as devices in contemporary fantasy narratives (e.g. game of thrones/a song of ice and fire, the current most infamous offender in this category, and which is very much a major influence on the localization team of FFXIV) is to appeal to an idea of “realism” or “historical accuracy” to shut down criticism of why it’s in there and if it’s actually accomplishing anything useful in the story. it is “realistic” to the setting, therefore it MUST be there, and criticism is inappropriate.

and the point of the final paragraph is that stuff that would be “realistic” to the setting, to its inspirations in history, is chopped because it’s considered disgusting and doesn’t serve the story/setting/characters enough to compensate for its disgustingness all the time. efficient butchery and eating offal is historically accurate and realistic. doing revolting stuff with human excrement in the name of alchemy is historically accurate and realistic. none of that is in the game, despite this, because the writers have considered it too nasty to be useful and worthwhile. so, essentially, i don’t find “but realism”/”but historical accuracy” arguments re: use of sexual violence as plot device in fantasy to shut down criticism/dialogue to be remotely compelling. the writers have a choice, they have agency.

Well, it wasn’t as bad as I expected from the liveblogging. I didn’t like it, the way that Alex is acting around Aaron seems weird as fuck, and actually made Rebecca and Robert look like they had actual on screen chemistry… But I’m a bit… what’s the point?

I don’t understand the fundamental reasons for this break up.

It isn’t a “topical issue” story, so they’re not telling it for that. They could have gone for male consent or self harm, but both have been completely ignored (the SH came up for about 4 episodes before being forgotten about again).

It’s not entertaining.

While keeping Robert and Aaron in each others sphere’s, nothing will actually change which is why the comment that they’re still working together doesn’t fill me with joy. In order to really tell separate stories, they need to be separate.

They’ve announced they’re getting back together months ago (because they legit panicked about the thousands of fans they’d made switch off after it was all filmed at the start) so there’s no tension or drama there. There isn’t a “will they won’t they” thing. We all know they will.

They were never going to allow either Robert or Aaron to grow / heal as people, which is what I saw a lot of fans hoping for from the split. That was never going to happen, because it’s a soap, and that thrives on broken people.

They haven’t dealt (and won’t) with Aaron’s self harm.

Robert hasn’t had any feelings towards this baby, besides self confessed hate on one occasion. Every other emotion happened either during the break up week, or is being read into by fans. Robert is not being allowed by ED to have any feelings towards his child, so they didn’t split for that reason.

I don’t understand why they split, because narratively, Aaron is going to have to accept what Robert did at some point if they get back together.

(I also think we’re actually a lot closer to a reunion than I did a week ago.)

i want to make a list of movies/books/etc where a major plot point is “mom helps daughter kill a man who hurt her, or at the very least helps her hide the body” but in general that is never what the actual plot is about, so it’s huge spoilers, which is ACTUALLY KINDA WEIRD now that i am thinking about it. with dad movies it’s the whole plot of the things, SOMEONE HURT HIS DAUGHTER AND NOW THEY’RE GONNA PAY

but i read a book once that was entirely about a girl going back to her hometown after twenty years and trying to reconcile with her mother after The Incident. then they finally reveal 80% of the way through the book that The Incident was that protag thought she’d killed her date rapist and had been scared to come back because she’d somehow made it twenty years without consequences, but actually she’d only seriously injured her date rapist. protag’s mom had found the guy while looking for her wayward daughter, realized what happened, and ran him over with her truck and buried the body under her garden. she never said anything because of Mom Code.

there was no indication at any point prior to this that this was a book about a murder. it was a heartwarming coming-of-age story about a woman entering her middle years learning to better understand her mother. that just happened to include covering up a murder. protag thought her mom was just an obsessive gardener.

tiny brain: fairy tales i.e. beauty and the beast, snow white, and cinderella are romantic

slightly bigger brain: fairy tales are sexist as fuck #WhatPrincessesTaughtMe

slightly slightly bigger brain: actually fairy tales are empowering for example cinderella is about a woman escaping her abusive home situation and beauty and the beast is about love between social outcasts

large brain: most of these stories are old as shit and reflect the gender roles of the time of their conception but whether or not they are intolerably sexist depends very much on the execution and interpretation of the critical plot points by the adaptation and you can’t paint every adaptation with the same brush

astral brain: fairy tales… but gay

To all y’all who wanted V’s route to be him and Rika getting back together

Guess what? Make the right choices during his route, and you get your wish! :) And guess what else? :)

IT’S FUCKING HORRIBLE.

So basically, if you’re enough of an asshole to both V and Rika towards the end of the route, you’ll be treated to a lovely bad ending on Day 10 where V ditches you to go back to Rika. And this bad ending perfectly encapsulates why V and Rika’s relationship is absolutely toxic, has always been toxic, and will always be toxic.

As soon as V shows up at her door, Rika pretty much dissolves into desperate sobbing, telling V that she was wrong and begging him to stay with her. She asks for forgiveness, and promises that she won’t hurt him anymore. So that’s good, right? Everything is lovely and romantic and #relationshipgoals now, right?

In order to gain his forgiveness, Rika offers to let V hurt her now instead.

Yup, that’s right. Now the oh so healthy cycle of domestic abuse is being reversed! Rika tells him that he can do anything that he wants to her, telling him that he can “mangle” her body and complete their “Reunion” photoshoot.

And V agrees. He stays with her, and agrees to hurt her…so that he can protect her (???). Like great, good job guys, now they’re both crazy.

At this point, they both know their relationship isn’t based on love for one another. Rika is desperate to be wanted (by anyone) and V is desperate to find his meaning in providing someone else with “love.” Essentially, they’re just obsessed with the idea of love itself, and very much want to feel love, but are not and have never actually been in love with one another.

I literally do not understand how people can still be romanticizing their relationship. I still see people who are upset that V’s route ended his and Rika’s troo wuv story, and I’m just??? So confused. Because listen. I like Rika. I like V. But their relationship together is actually the worst thing ever™. Unless you literally hate both characters, I don’t see how you could support this pairing. If they get back together, they will destroy each other. In order for either of them to even begin healing/moving towards happiness, this relationship has to end. And that’s why Cheritz gave us the great route that they did.

TL;DR: IF YOU’RE STILL ROMANTICIZING V AND RIKA’S RELATIONSHIP:

Lucretia.........

I relistened to everything while getting hyped for the finale and I have a lot of things to say about Lucretia. Lucretia’s character arc is my absolute favorite on this show because she winds up so far from how she started, but everything fits perfectly with the person she already was. I took note of some of my favorite parts of her development, mainly her parallels to Magnus and the way her experiences shape her decisions. Most of all I’m just so fascinated with how she began as a character who simply chronicled events without any agency in them, but her choices wind up becoming the driving force of the entire plot.

Like, at the press conference that the Stolen Century starts with, the chronological beginning of everyone’s story, the moment she introduces herself made me laugh.

I fucking LAUGHED. I realized the reason why I found it strangely funny is because Lucretia has more influence on the plot than any other character. The story is almost entirely driven by her. Lucretia’s decisions are why The Adventure Zone happens and she has her hand on every single plot point in the show. TAZ, from beginning to end, is the story of her failing redemption arc. Her character development as a friend and an antagonist is so complex and slow-burning and so deeply satisfying.

I love Lucretia more than my own life and I would have died if she didn’t get a happy ending with her family. But still, I don’t overlook the wrongs she has done. She didn’t begin as a bad person nor did she end as one, but she has been an antihero in the story. I actually think her character arc is written to directly parallel Magnus as a hero. Their actions mirror each other’s almost constantly. They both gained the voidfish’s trust; Lucretia used it to take away knowledge and Magnus used it to give it back to everyone in Story and Song. Even Magnus’ lessons in strength that Griffin kept flashing back to at the climax directly apply to Lucretia (more on that in a bit). They both want to be protectors and they want to shoulder pain so that their friends don’t have to.

Another thing from Lucretia’s first appearance in the Stolen Century that I like is when she introduces herself as a ghostwriter for other people’s biographies.

It’s a brilliant backstory for Griffin to give her, because it explains perfectly how easily she could erase everyone’s life and write a new story for them. She had been rewriting and editing people’s lives for a living once, without anyone knowing it was her. It’s interesting the way Griffin describes her plan to void their memories exactly like what her previous life’s work had been.

It’s just a wildly good twist on the aspect of her character that kept Lucretia as a passive observer at the beginning of the story! In the Stolen Century, Merle suggested to her that she had leadership qualities and Lucretia laughed it off; she told merle she was happy to sit and watch. This gets turned on its head and she uses that skill against her loved ones and the entire world, now she is making them passive characters in the narrative she is driving.

Lucretia used to rely entirely on others to the point where she didn’t want to take action, or didn’t think she needed to. The turning point for this, obviously, is the year she faced alone. She stopped observing her friends save the world and started participating in it with them.

The motive for her character’s turning point in the Stolen Century mirrors Magnus’ motives. She wants to be a protector, but she doesn’t know how. Like Magnus, she needed to learn to ask for help. But she learned the wrong lesson.

The year when the judges and their officers pursued her, the one that carved her into the person she is now—It taught her that she didn’t need help to protect her friends. She could struggle through it alone, without anyone’s support, and come out of it stronger. Lucretia fixed everyone’s mistake and none of them suffered for it.

And this year explains why she thought erasing her friends’ memories could be redeemable. She carries with her a trauma and a complex that shaped her into believing she has to suffer alone for the good of her friends to save them—She did it once, she could do it again. Lucretia learning to be a protector was a case where no one was there to help her and she had to take on everything by herself, so she thinks she can keep her friends safe by cutting them off. From her, from each other, from their past. She wanted everyone to just wake up and find that everything was okay now because of Lucretia, again.

Contrast it with Magnus, whose only flaw is that he’s totally willing to sacrifice his life for his friends. He doesn’t think his friends are strong enough, so he must be the one to “take the big hit” for them.

I’m pretty sure Lucretia shadows this. Her first priority is preservation, whereas Magnus’ is sacrifice, but they’re both too ambitious and think they can take on more than they should. In her mind taking the big hit = shouldering the knowledge of what they’d done to this word and responsibility of repairing their mistakes on her own. She thought it was allowing everyone to live safely and free of guilt while she went through the hardship of absolving them. I think maybe it’s why Magnus forgives her without thinking. He understands this.

That’s why I referred to TAZ earlier as secretly being the story of her failing redemption arc. She betrayed everyone she loved with certainty that recovering the relics and locking out the hunger would vindicate her in their eyes. And it didn’t work. She didn’t mean to draw her plan out as long as she did, but she was afraid to back out or else she’s just left with the consequences of a horrible thing she did and no end to justify the means.

But she didn’t need to. Like Magnus didn’t think to ask for help because it was just too simple, Lucretia didn’t think she could just ask for forgiveness and it would come.

“It was shot very, very simply. It’s basically just one steady push in shot to Jon and Dany and then that very important look between them at mid-level. And then a one-shot looking at Jon, then looking down at Dany. It wasn’t about shooting a big lovemaking scene. Once they’re making love, that’s the story. There’s no reason to kind of linger on that. But the real story within the story, was actually what was going on with their eyes and what’s happening — there’s an understanding between them that even though they know in some part of them that they shouldn’t really be doing this, they cannot not do it. There’s some element of destiny that’s brought them together, and they can’t fight it. All those things were meant to be interwoven, to give a kind of prismatic view of the history that brought Jon to this point, and Jon and Dany together in this sweep of destiny, in this sweep of history. It was very much written that way. My contribution to that was really making that cinematic and making this feel like a fluid movement through time as we’re seeing this all unfold.” - Podesw (Director of 7x07)

again, I’m sorry I had to stop this project. I had a LOT more story to tell and my depression just wasn’t letting me have the motivation to do so. The Color Of My World // A Stiles Stilinski AU

Prompt: Soulmate AU where for your entire life you’ve only ever seen black and white, until you receive the first touch from your soulmate and color blooms before your very eyes. But, what would you do if you found out your soulmate was the one person your current boyfriend hates the most in this world?

Relationships: Stiles Stilinski x Reader/Theo Raeken x Reader/Stiles Stilinski x OFC/Theo Raeken x OFC

Warnings: Intimate Dancing, Kissing, Swearing, and Future Smut (I gotta build it up first y’all but smut is coming)

A/N: Y’all this was a long time coming. This series is so incredibly important to me, it took me months on end to write. This is without a doubt my favorite story I have written so far and has become my baby. Special thanks to @sarcasticallystilinski for reading it over and supporting me! I really hope you guys love this as much as I do.

P.s. All of the songs will be in Stiles’ POV and, Oh My God, I highly recommend you listen to them after every part to know what’s going on in his mind throughout the story.

Love, Soulmates and Colors are the three words I despise the most in this world. They ring in my ears like sharp nails scratching against a dry chalkboard and, yet, it seems to be all everyone ever talks about.

“When will I find my soulmate?”

“All I ever see is black and white, I hope one day I’ll meet her and see color.”

“Wait, what do you mean you’re only seeing blue?”

Everyone on this God forsaken planet can only see the dull shades of black and white. However, rumor has it, that that completely changes when you meet your soulmate - as if that bullshit actually exists. Apparently, the moment your skin touches theirs, your entire world becomes vibrant with color and life.

I don’t believe it for one second. Not because I’m bitter or anything, but because I’ve never actually met anyone who can see in color and, therefore, I don’t believe that possibility exists. What would a world full of color even look like? I’m so used to the reality of black and white that the idea of shades other than these two seem so foreign and impossible.

Meeting the Family

Prompt: Batfam meets Batmom’s large extended family

AN: I interrupt our string of votes to bring you an actual story. Enjoy!

Words: 1490

You’re more than a little surprised when your brother walks through your office door. Though not technically an employee of Wayne Enterprises, your office space is still in the building, just one of the perks of your husband owning the building. That also means your security is top notch, and well, you haven’t seen anyone from your family in about ten years.

All of this is what’s running through your mind as your brother, your baby brother just stands there and fidgets. “You’re still drifting off I see.”

You shrug and point to one of the chairs, on the opposite side of the room. There’s several minutes of silence, as you take in the changes on your brother, before you ask, “What are you doing here, Ricky?”

“Mom’s in the hospital … It’s bad. She wants to see you.”

That takes you by surprise. Your fight was never with your mother; it was just a side effect of the war with your father. “What’s wrong?”

He shrugs. “Kidney failure, she wants to come off treatment. She won’t listen to anyone. The doctors say she still has a chance you know. If she continues her treatments, and waits for a transplant. Either way she wants to see you.” You open your mouth to say something but he stops you “This isn’t about dad, it’s about mom. The fight wasn’t with her, it wasn’t with any of us but dad. It was you who chose to leave. It was you who cut us off.”

You nod. “You’re right, I did.”

“She’s your mother, and she’s dying. You should see her.”

          “I won’t make any promises.”

Your brother stares at you for a moment before laying an envelope on the table, and walking out.

You debate on going for several days. Bruce is out of town on business for the week, and the boys are all gone as well. It’s just you and Alfred in the manor. And while the butler doesn’t pry he does acknowledge something is wrong.

It all comes out two nights later about the fight that separated you from your family. The fight that ended up leading you to Bruce. The fight that led the two of you to each of the boys. “It’s weird how a fight that, at that time, nearly ended my world, led me to a brand new one. One I wouldn’t change for the world. “

Alfred just smiles. “If you called Master Bruce he’d return home to go with you.”

You shake your head. “No, I think this is something I need to do alone.”

You’re packed and out the door several hours later. You catch a last minute flight, and you just go. It’s nearly midnight when you get to the hospital, suitcase in tow. You follow the nurse to her room. She leaves you at the door with instructions, to try and not wake her. You agree and slip into the room.

Your eyes focus on the woman in the bed. She looks frail, and much too thin. Her hair though is still brushed, and delicately styled, your sister’s doing no doubt. And she’s dressed in nice looking pajamas.

You prop your suitcase against the wall and move to the chair beside her bed. You just sit there staring at her. You study the changes and with a feeling of sadness you realize she’s actually gotten older, not old, just older. At the same time, it hits you. You’ve gotten older too. You have a husband, and kids now. You have a successful business. Things have changed not only for you, but for them as well.

At some point in the night, you turn to a book. You’re nearly halfway through when a voice whispers, “You always did have your nose in a book. Couldn’t get enough of them. You’d always beg her for one more chapter when she’d read to you before bed.”

You book mark your page and turn towards the voice. Your father is still very much like how you remembered him. He’s tall, and wide, but his hair has a lot more gray in it now, and there are more lines along his face.

He gestures with his head and you follow him out. “I didn’t expect you to come.”

You cross your arms. “I wasn’t completely sure I would myself.”

“She’ll be happy to see you.” You just acknowledge the statement with a nod. “I suppose we need to talk.”

You shrug, suddenly feeling like that twenty something again. “I don’t see why. We both said all we needed to all those years ago.”

He looks you in the eye and says, “I want to make things right.”

“I don’t know if I’m ready for that.”

“It’s been ten years.”

“And a lot has changed in those years. Right now, I’m here for Mom.”

“Which means you’re here for me. She wanted you here so we could settle things. She wanted to make sure that you had your family in case something went wrong, or something went right. She wanted you to have us around for when you got married, when you have kids. She’s terrified you’ll be alone.”

“And what do you want?” You ask. He just looks at you confused. You shrug and say, “So far everything has been about what Mom wants. What do you want?”

He stares at you for a minute before he says “I want my daughter back.”

You nod. “Small steps. This was a good first one.”

Without another word, you slip back into the room. Your father is right behind you and he takes the seat on the opposite side of the bed. Neither of you say anything, but you don’t go back to your book either.

Your mother wakes up at about eight in the morning. She opens her eyes and she comes to life. There’s tears when she sees you, and a lot of saying sorry on both your parts. Your father just watches. You take her hand and don’t let go for several hours.

Over the next several days you see a lot of family you haven’t seen in a long time. Some greet you with smiles, others with nods. Overall, you spend a lot of time with your mother and siblings. Things start looking up, and then suddenly something happens. No one’s quite sure what, but suddenly her blood pressure starts to drop, and you’re pushed out of the room, as she’s rushed back to emergency surgery.

You’re a bit disoriented, as you watch the family surround each other. You consider joining in, but they’ve formed this little cocoon, and you can’t help but feel there isn’t a place for you there anymore.

You watch from the outside, your arms wrapped around yourself. Till a noise you’d know anywhere hits your ears. A very tired looking Bruce rounds the corner, with the boys trailing after him. Dick and Jason are on the lookout for you while Tim and Damian bicker about something.

You smile as Bruce’s eyes lock onto you. You meet him halfway, and he pulls you into an embrace. That feeling of safeness washes over you, and you allow the tears to come. Bruce guides you away from your family and suddenly the boys are all trying to reach you.

They’ve never seen you cry, and you imagine it’s a bit unsettling for them. You hug and kiss each of them, before explaining the situation. Bruce disappears, and once you’ve collected yourself, they go with you back to the waiting room.

You can see the curious looks on your family’s faces. And you do your best to smile and say, “Everyone, these are my sons. This is Dick, Jason, Tim, and Damian. And my husband Bruce will be along any minute.”

Almost if by magic, Bruce appears and says, “I’ve got her moved to a better hospital room, a private room. Not a private room, that can be turned into a semi private hospital. I’ve also called Lee, she’s flying in to take a look, and she has some recommendations for doctors that might be able to help her a bit more until she comes up on the transplant list.”

Before you can even say ‘thank you’, your brother says, “And where the hell is all that money coming from?”

Bruce just raises an eyebrow and says, “Me. I suppose I should introduce myself. I’m Y/N’s husband, Bruce Wayne. I’ve take care of her medical bills, everything is settled. And my company donates quite a bit of money to this hospital every year, so they’ve comped the private room. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’d like to get my wife something to eat.”

Without another word he begins guiding you down the hallway, the boys following behind, with smiles on their faces; and you can’t help but smile, because your family is right here with you.
