there is no law in love

President Abraham Lincoln Gay

In 1837, the 28-year-old Abraham Lincoln arrived in Springfield, Illinois, to found a law practice. Almost immediately, he struck up a friendship with a 23-year-old shopkeeper named Joshua Speed. There may have been an element of calculation to this friendship, since Joshua’s father was a prominent judge, but the two clearly hit it off. Lincoln rented an apartment with Speed, where the two slept in the same bed. Sources from the time, including the two men themselves, describe them as inseparable.

Lincoln and Speed were close enough to still raise eyebrows today. Speed’s father died in 1840, and shortly afterwards, Joshua announced plans to return to the family plantation in Kentucky. The news seems to have stricken Lincoln. On January 1, 1841, he broke off his engagement with Mary Todd and made plans to follow Speed to Kentucky.

Speed left without him, but Lincoln followed a few months later, in July. In 1926, writer Carl Sandburg published a biography of Lincoln in which he described the relationship between the two men as having, “a streak of lavender, and spots soft as May violets.” Eventually, Joshua Speed would marry a woman named Fanny Henning. The marriage lasted 40 years, until Joshua’s death in 1882, and produced no children.

From 1862 to 1863, President Lincoln was accompanied by a bodyguard from the Pennsylvania Bucktail Brigade named Captain David Derickson. Unlike Joshua Speed, Derickson was a prodigious father, marrying twice and siring ten children. Like Speed, however, Derickson became a close friend of the president and also shared his bed while Mary Todd was away from Washington. According to an 1895 regimental history written by one of Derickson’s fellow officers:

“Captain Derickson, in particular, advanced so far in the President’s confidence and esteem that, in Mrs. Lincoln’s absence, he frequently spent the night at his cottage, sleeping in the same bed with him, and — it is said — making use of His Excellency’s night-shirt!”

Another source, the well-connected wife of Lincoln’s naval adjundant, wrote in her diary: “Tish says, ‘there is a Bucktail Soldier here devoted to the President, drives with him, & when Mrs L. is not home, sleeps with him.’ What stuff!”

Derickson’s association with Lincoln ended with his promotion and transfer in 1863.

That to me is writing for women. [insp]  (for @singinprincess happy birthday, my friend)

reading the wikipedia article on Heinrich Schliemann is just wild from the start to finish

  • first developed a love for Homer when he was 14 and heard a drunkard reciting it at the grocer’s
  • claimed he saw the San Francisco Fire of 1851 but his account was actually plagiarized from a newspaper
  • moved specifically to Indiana for three months just to take advantage of the state’s liberal divorce laws
  • advertised for a new wife in a newspaper
  • named his children Andromache and Agamemnon and baptized them by placing a copy of the Iliad on their heads and reciting 100 hexameters
  • literally destroyed troy with a shovel
  • decided it was a good idea to smuggle the gold and other excavated findings out of Turkey
  • died of an ear infection

I know what it’s like to be near her. I know what her voice sounds like; in the morning, when she’s upset, or when she’s half asleep. I know that her favorite show is rocket power. I know that when she wakes up in the morning the first thing she does is watch an episode of law and order: svu. I know that she’s the most ticklish on the back of her neck and just under her left hip bone. I know that the song Always & Forever by Parachute makes her cry..

My point is, I know this woman. I know her better than I know myself. I couldn’t forget her, I can’t. I know, I’ve tried. But she’s always there, in my chest. Like a deep, tightening ache reminding me that I love her and that I’ll always love her.

There’s no one else. She’s the first person I’ve been in love with, she’s the first person to actually give a fuck about me.

On the subject of Jin not getting any attention: I live in a Chicago and I frequent the K-Pop store in Chicago's Chinatown. (They were playing the Not Today music video yesterday and I squealed). But anyway, one of the workers at the store told me yesterday that lately she's noticed an increase in sales of Jin merch. They sold out of his acrylic stands and postcard sets. It made me happy to know he's getting so much love here!

Yeah, Jin has definitely been getting so much more fan love! I remember hearing from a few people who collected photocards that Jin’s PC sold out pretty quick for Wings from eBay sellers, even before some of the maknae line. He’s definitely been getting more and more attention since the Fire era!

I’m also really happy he’s been going on variety shows like Law of the Jungle! I know that the boys will be touring for a lot of the year and will be busy but I’d love for Jin to go on more variety shows, he does so well on them! Dad jokes aside (who am i kidding I love dad jokes) Jin is just really entertaining man I love him so much #varietykingseokjin

Imagine memes in the OP universe. Like everytime something important happens, the navy soldiers say the one responsible has to be a relative of Luffy. Marco fighting back BB? Luffys bro. Law delivering 100 hearts? Luffys bro. Aokiji fighting Akaino. Luffys uncle. Vivi throwing shade at Reveri. Luffys sis. Rayleigh helping Luffy? Luffys 2nd dad/granddad. Hancock helping Luffy escape Sabaody Archipelago as well. Luffys ???

PFF YES i love the thought of there being a new joke between marines where if they hear about something going wrong and garp is in the room they’ll all just turn and look at him

and garp is like “IT’S NOT MY FAMILY THIS TIME I SWEAR” (spoiler alert: it’s probably his family)

ooh yeah that’s interesting…..and yeah i always wondered about that convo too!  i don’t think rayleigh’s really in with the revolutionaries but he definitely seems to know more than he’s letting on.  but then the entire thing with kuma is one big fascinating mystery i can’t wait to know more about (i get the feeling drake might have some knowledge regarding it too….idk)

ahaha it’s ok, i gotchu.  though i do like how even the marines seem to kinda respect the fact that the asl bros are bros, like they may not be related by blood but it seems like the world is starting to accept that yeah these three are bros, that’s just how it is lol.

“Everyone attending a Aqours First Live Viewing, please kindly follow the no photography/videography rule for the sake of your community!”

Case study for what could happen if one leak media.

For anyone, anyone at all who wishes to see theatrical releases, concerts and perhaps even events in the future, respect the copyright holders and do not leak or release media of events.

Since all the Cinemas, event organizers would inform everyone that photography and video filming is not allowed, and it is common knowledge that such acts are not tolerated, it falls upon the individual to uphold those rules.

You are not sharing to ‘help’ the community, you are hurting the community by lowering the chances of releases in the industry.

If the distributors so wish, they would not be releasing movies, events at the same time in Japan (which is an exclusive, who doesn’t want to watch theatrical movies first?) and may only release media much later than the original release.

So if you truly wish to see products first and exclusive, and of course to help grow the community, respect copyright, attend events and share awareness.

Lack of respect for copyright laws would only cause repercussions that would harm the community more.

Do YOU wish to be infamous for being the person that blacklist your country from future releases?

This is another important PSA on proper behavior.

Change starts with YOU, and if you can influence someone else to do the same. Stand up for what’s right.
