i feel like with nozomi its less obsessed over….like she’s just. chubby, that’s what she is and (most of) the fandom agrees on that. its nice and refreshing to see but not…overdone. with yuuri it gets to feel like..SEE??? SEE??????? FAT PEOPLE CAN DO THINGS TOO. and while that’s true it gets really. pushy, like…i guess i’m not sure how to describe it either. it’s treated less as “matter of fact” as nozomi and i think there lies the differnece
Right? LL fandom is just more like “yeah Nozomi is chubby and she’s hot and we love Nozomi moving on.”
Yuuri is like…
THERE’S NO REASON FIGURE SKATERS CAN’T BE FAT!! Which is I mean true to a degree but like here’s the thing, and this sorry but true…
Yuuri is a grown man and has likely been maintaining the same competitive weight for years, and it is really, really freakin’ hard to recalibrate yourself when your weight changes as a skater. This is one of the main reasons that ‘body changes’ are such an issue for young skaters. It’s not just height, it’s new weight in new places (hips, bust, etc). It messes up your equilibrium when it comes to jumps, spins, etc. So young skaters often have a really big rough patch while they get used to their body. Some skaters can’t recover from this and pretty much just— are not ever successful again.
And this would absolutely happen to an adult skater as well if they gained weight. It’s why skaters are really insistent about maintaining their weight. It sucks, but yeah. So like… Yuuri would just want to lose the weight anyway instead of like ‘making a statement’ by going into the season chubbier and having to take forever to readjust everything to it? Like… why. The guy already is working on improving his jumps, why add another hurdle.
IDK, it’s not fatshaming it’s just the more sensical and easier choice for him to exercise a lot and drop the pounds, especially since he apparently has endless stamina and it comes off pretty easily for him.
