there hope it helps anyone :)

anonymous asked:

How did you become so popular with your blog? I'm trying to make a blog myself but I only have 27 followers and no one's sending in questions. Is there something I can do to promote my art?

Well, I made this blog about a year ago, but I wouldn’t call myself popular. At least, not compared to the blogs that I look up to and admire.

I don’t have too much advice, but here’s this:

1. Keep practicing your art. Even if it’s not perfect, that only means there’s room for improvement. You’re allowed to trace art to see how other artists do it, but remember to keep your style unique and not copy others entirely (it’s also good to give credit). That’s how I did when learning to draw. Tutorials made no sense to me, so I traced other artists until I developed my own personal style. (Mind you, I was like 13 when I did this. XD) If tutorials work for you, go for it!

2. Whatever kind of blog you have, it’s nice to have visuals, such as reaction images for characters. Digital art seems to gain a better response, but if you have a scanner, traditional art will be more visible and vibrant.

3. Writing improvement. Look up ways to improve vocabulary, sentence variety and better formatting. People are more inclined to look at “better” writing. But don’t get upset if your writing is not as good as you want. That means you can improve it! (This will help with backstories, character bios, and the works.)

4. I wouldn’t exactly recommend asking for promotions. For some artists, that comes across as needy and whiny (but some would be happy to promote, so choose wisely). Try doing collabs and art trades with other bloggers instead. But NEVER become friends with an artist just for free art. That is like a stab in the back. True friendship comes from mutual trust and understanding, and also dank memes. (But I believe there is no problem with self-promotions, that’s how I help myself. XD)

5. Tag all your art and your posts so that it’ll be easier for people to stumble upon your stuff. That’s what I’m doing for my three AU blogs. :D

Important messages from “Yuri!!! on Ice” to an athlete

1. You don’t have an expiration date. Yuuri is a “late bloomer”, you can be that too.

2. To succeed in your sport, you don’t have to be born with talent - hard work and dedication will bring you far.

3. Rivalry doesn’t exclude the possibility of a friendship.

4. What works for others might not work for you. You’re an individual and there’s not one correct answer to what will help you improve your athletic performance. Celestino wasn’t the right coach for Yuuri, ballet didn’t work for Otabek.

5. Some days - maybe weeks or months, even - you won’t perform the way you want to and know you can. That’s okay. You’ll figure it out. Everyone falls into a slump sometimes.

6. At the end of the day, the most important thing is that you enjoy your sport. It’s supposed to be fun, even though it might seem to be all work and no fun.

7. You don’t have to fight alone . Don’t be afraid to ask for help - it might help you to develop your skills and help you out of a rough patch

hi! im a new simblr, can you give me any advice to start off? i love your page and theme, by the way. :)

Sandy’s Masterpost for starting a new Simblr! 👍

Welcome to the community! I’m so glad you like my blog! Just a few months ago I was also new to the community so I know how daunting it can be! Below I’ve put together a bunch of helpful tips and links that I’ve either used in the past or believe will be useful to you, and any other new/aspiring simblrs! Obviously, everything is subjective- what works for me might not work for everyone else!

🎁 The Basics:

  • Make your tumblr a seperate tumblr, not a sideblog under your main/personal blog. It will make everything easier in the long run, trust me!
  • Use your description to advertise to others what you and your blog are all about. Also having either your URL or your avatar sim related will quickly advertise to others that you’re a simblr!
  • Enable replies and asks in your blogs settings, if you want people to be able to interact with you and your posts! Bare in mind an interactive simblr is much more approachable!!
  • Keep it sim related! A few personal posts every once and a while is perfectly fine, but post a lot of unrelated stuff you could lose followers.
  • Network! Follow other simblr’s, like their posts, leave friendly and encouraging comments! Making friends in this community is a sure-fire way to get started. I would be nowhere without my simblr friends!
  • Don’t become disheartened if it takes you a while to take off! Every simblr grows at a different rate.
  • Don’t mistag your posts! Failing to tag your NSFW content or tagging posts that aren’t cc posts as ts4cc will make you very unpopular.
  • Keep your blog atleast 80% original content! It’s much easier for a blog that tries to be original to gain traction in this community!
  • Don’t get caught up in how many followers/notes you have! Just post what you post because you love it! Don’t worry what other people think.
  • Everyone at some point or another will recieve anon hate. It’s sad that there’s so many negative people out there, but my advice is just to delete it. If you do want to post it, handle it with grace and dignity! (think of Audrey Hepburn!)
  • This is more a personal one but: try your best to avoid the drama!!
  • Finally, treasure your followers & always stay humble!

🎁 Common Simblr Terms Explained:

  • NSFW: Not safe for work. This is used for any posts that contain nudity of adult themes! It’s very important to tag these posts.
  • WIP: Work In Progress. This can refer to any sim related project that is unfinished.
  • WCIF: Where Can I Find? If someone sees a peice of CC in one of your posts that they like they may send you a ‘WCIF’ through your ask box, they’re simply asking where they can find that certain peice of cc. Not all simblrs agree to answer WCIF’s but it’s certainly very nice to!
  • MM: Maxis Match. Refering to custom content that matches the general aesthetic of the game.
  • Alpha:  Refers to hairstyles that don’t fit the aesthetic of the game, as they have alpha layers which allow certain parts of the mesh to be transparent. This is what makes alpha hairstyles more realistic looking.
  • Clayified: Refers to Alpha hairstyles that have been retextured to look more maxis match.

Dear you, it is to time to begin pushing yourself. You have moved oceans and mountains, and you are beyond capable of doing so much more. Please don’t let me down. Do it for the time you’ve been called stupid or the time you were looked down upon. Do it for yourself. For your future that is between your hands. You must realise it is you and only you who will be responsible for making or breaking it. On your dark days, remind yourself of the peace that engulfs your body when you study. Remind yourself of the passion that your veins hold for growing, learning. Effort will not betray you. It is your best friend. Study. Study for the times you wish you’ve done more. Study for the feelings of pride and accomplishment. Rise and stay humble. Expand with passion. Be kind. You’ve got this. You have the same 24 hours of the day as Elle Woods did. And as she once said, ‘you must always have faith in yourself’
—  Something I wrote to myself for motivation
Reminder that

•you are not gross
•you are not disgusting
•you don’t have to feel guilty about liking something when you can’t control it
•having kinks-no matter what it is- do not make you any less of a person
•even though not everybody has them, having kinks is perfectly normal
•as long as it’s legal and consensual, you’ll be fine
•it’s ok if you embrace your kinks
•it’s also fine if you don’t
•have only one or a few kinks??? That’s fine!
•have so many kinks you can’t count them??? That’s also totally fine!
•just know there will always be someone out there willing to love and support you, no matter what you’re into

Reyes Vidal: skin tone palette

I’ve been seeing some art of Reyes that just pales in comparison to the guy himself, so I made a palette for Reyes’ skin tone to get you started.

Writing with Color has a great post to help with describing skin tones, and while it might be aimed more towards writers, there are some really good visual aids - it’s also an excellent resource for artists wanting to draw a fictional character they have a written description of but nothing visual to go on. There’s honestly a ton of good stuff here, and I’d really encourage you to follow this blog, even if you’re not a writer!

I get that selecting the right tones can sometimes be tricky and sometimes different lighting can make things even trickier - but if you look at the swatches above, you’ll notice that even the lighter tones are a kind of tawny orange-brown. It’s really important that we look critically, both at our own work and the works of other artists, and try to get it right.

anonymous asked:

How do you even become cosplay guests with no skill?

LOL I can’t tell if this is sarcasm or honest seriousness but, here’s what I got!

First and foremost, being a convention guest is not just an honor and a priviledge, it is a job.

A job that has responsibilities and expectations, and should be treated as such. When Sylar and I go to a convention as a guest, we are 100% working.

We have a work resume for conventions, a contract, a portfolio of programming, and more. Because that what you are really, programming. Even if all they want you to do is sit at a table and sign things, thats still programming. Its your job to   represent the convention, and give con goers more content for the tickets they bought. You owe it to them to make sure your 100% postive, there, working, and providing something they can’t get anywhere else.

And all con guests are asked to attend for different reasons. Some cosplay guests are asked to come because they are widely known for their technical skill and they will provide programming related to that. Or they simply have a huge fanbase, and are keeping their fanbase happy at your location, therefore spreading that market around.

Sylar and I work hard on our panels. We’re also trained speakers. Both he and I have taken classes, in college, about public speaking. We implement that and our presentation experience into all our panels. As well as our meet and greets at the table, interviews for the con’s media (there is a ton of backstage media going on that most con goers don’t know about. A lot of con time for guests is spent locked up in some empty room giving an interview,) and any floor time we have.

We also have 7 yrs experience working conventions. We have run cafes, hosted events, planned gatherings, organized raffles, done mutiple panels and workshops. We’ve also worked as Guest Liasions ourselves, written out program guides, sat at registration tables, and MCed masquerades as well as judged them. All things that involve systems, filling out paperwork, knowing how to handle negative situations, and doing menial tasks. Heck, we’ve even done set-up and break down for dealers halls. We know cons.

And this is something valued because honestly, its not a job for everyone.

Lots of cosplayers out there with amazing technicality skills just don’t like catering to crowds. They aren’t good speakers. Or they don’t have it in them to sit at a table for 6 hours just listening to strangers speak and ask them questions. Or they might hate having to write out workshop forms. And thats okay! But thats the difference between who gets asked to guest and who doesnt.

Guests have to be okay with not getting time to shop, not getting time to hang out with their friends, and devoting all their energy to the convention goers. Devoting their whole day to smiling and talking and making sure everyone who meets them goes away happy.

If you are interested in coming a guest, awesome! My biggest tips are;
Figure out what service you can provide to the convention experience. What are you good at that you think a con needs? How can you expand that? How can you turn it into programming? Are you a health nut – maybe do a panel on dieting and working out, anime style!  Awesome at writing and editing? Fanfiction panel! A cosplayer who loves acting but hates sewing? Think about being a commentator for Cosplay Chess or the AMV contest!

Start volunteering now. All cons need volunteers and this is the best way to gain experience in the feild, just like any other job. I have friends that started volunteering as security for a con and now they run a convention of their own. No joke. It’s also helpful to know and understand the inner working of how a convention is run if you plan on guesting at one. It helps you help them by knowing what types of panels work best, what programming would work for that con specifically, or even just give you ideas on what their budget for you might be.

Write. A. Resume. Seriously. Just like you have a resume for job searching, write up a resume for cosplaying. How long have you been cosplaying? How many costumes? What skills do you have? Armor making? Public speaking? What experiences? Any awards? What topics are you an expert at that can be turned into an hour of programming? Put it alllllll dowwnnn in youurr resummmee.

Also, protip, you can always write to a a convention’s program director yourself and ASK to be a guest. It’s a job. Submit your application.

Hope this helps!

And funnily enough – this is all information that we talk about in our panel, Cosplay and Convention careers. Where not only do we cover working for cons, but we cover translating cosplay and con work into LIFE CAREERS and how to translate being in a maid cafe to a resume for a 5 star resturant hostess. Lol. My entire Graphic Design resume is pulled from cosplaying. And now I am a full time graphic designer for a state university.

Other LGBT+ kpop blogs

Here is a shortish list of other blogs who often(always??) post kpop lgbt+ content (moodboards, scenarios etc). These are the blogs we reblog from most frequently; if you know of other blogs, feel free to send us a message and we’ll publish it and give them a shout out!

Aah sorry for not getting round to your asks until now, I got a few asking about tips so I thought I would do a nice big post to answer them
I’ll include some tools that I use as examples, hopefully that’ll help ^o^

INCOMING LONG ASS POST  💪(‘ω'💪)

~ U s i n g   W a t e r c o l o u r s ~

Some general tips:

1.  Try not to mix too many colours. You’ll lose their vibrancy if you do and they’ll become muddy. At most, I only mix two colours.

2.  Always have clean water. If the water is discoloured, this affects the colour of your paint.

3.  Always have lots of tissue. Trust me you’ll need it! haha (for dabbing up paint when you’ve put down too much, mistakes, spilling water… etc)

4. Use a palette, any will do. Wash it often~

5.  Rubber: one that doesn’t smudge and is soft enough to not rip the paper if you rub out a lot like me. I think I use soft staedtler brand.

6. ALWAYS EXPERIMENT YESSS

Watercolours dry differently depending on how hot it is where you live (I live in the UK, it’s cold so it takes a while to dry. I’ve also painted in Thailand where it’s hot as well as humid, and takes just a minute or so to dry).

This is importantttt
If the temperature around you is colder, it makes it easier to smoothly blend paints. Example:

And if the temperature around you is hotter i.e you live in a hot country, they can look blotchy-er? Basically some areas dry faster so they make a not so smooth pattern, but it makes nice texture. Example:

T i m i n g
For blending, timing is crucial because at what stage you add it, it brings out different kinds of blending. This is related to the wet-on-wet technique actually.

Simply,
- if you add paint to water or paint on paper while it’s still wet - it’ll blend smoothly. (look at the first example picture)
- if you add paint to water or paint while it’s damp and about to dry, it makes a sort of snowflake appearance as it tries to spread. Example:

B r u s h e s
Main brushes I can think of:
- spotter - good for small detail (I mainly use these)
- rigger - long and good for detail and holding more water/paint (and these)
- round - good for spreading lots of water/paint
- flat - standard brush
- fan - spread a light wash of water paint
- mop - spread a lot of water

In the photo are my brushes from right to left: Liner/rigger, spotter, round/mop, rigger, rigger.

Synthetic brushes are good, but they wear out quickly. Animal hairs are more robust but expensive.

P a p e r
I can’t stress enough how finding the right paper for you is. Let me show you how paper can really affect your paints, and why there are lots of them around.

Example.

Same drawing, but different paper. The first is thin paper, the other is something like 200gsm. All paper are different. So it’s best to try them out!

The thicker it is, the more likely it’ll be ale to hold more paint/water. This 200gsm paper can’t take much water, however in small amounts it really shows off the vibrancy of the paint and holds it well and allows it to blend well. This is paper from a Muji sketchbook (photo below) and I also use Arches paper.

P A I N T S !!!!!!

Oh yeah this. Generally, the more expensive it is, the better quality/more pigmented (vibrant) the colour will be. So if you’re starting out, I recommend that you start with some cheap okay ones, then move on to the expensive ones (that way, you can appreciate the quality and also get used to them).

These are the paints I use:

Yeah I only use paint tubes (just preference really. I’m not sure if tubes are more pigmented, but I guess they might be since you’d have to add water to the dried stuff?)

I use from left to right:
- Dr. Ph Martin’s watercolours (really intense super vibrant watercolours)
- Winsor and Newton Designers Gouache (the flesh tint is great for skin)
- Winsor and Newton: Artists’ Water Colour brands (various colours and good quality)
- Winsor and Newton: Professional (same as above)
- Winsor and Newton: Cotman (basic colours and good quality)
- WHSmith watercolours: (student grade (cheap) and not very vibrant in colour, but has some colours that are good)

Apart from the WHSmith ones, I’d say they’re all good brands.

Okay I think I’ve covered most things. Sorry this is so long to read, but I hope it helps anyone (/^▽^)/ ☆☆☆

pikashit  asked:

Hey. How u get that subtitle print on ya drawin. Spill da beans

i use the text tool/blending options in photoshop!!

so after you type in your text and change the colours (i think the standard is either white or yellow), rasterize your layer (in your layers panel, right click the text layer > rasterize layer)

[[EDIT: ive been told you don’t actually have to rasterize the layer to apply blending options!! which is pretty dang neat!!]]

after rasterizing, right click your layer again > blending options:

It’ll open up a ‘blending options: default’ window.. For your text, the option you want is ‘stroke’, at the bottom of the checklist on the left, so click that:

and it should bring you to a window where you can change the width and opacity of the stroke effect around your text! I usually bring it down to 4 or 5 px, but whatever you think looks best should work too (you can also change colour and opacity; i’ve just got it set to black at 100% opacity.)

I hope this helps!!

The cherik fandom is so wide and varied. We have writers and artists who all believe in different head canons and try out different tropes is so many ways. Sometimes we don’t all agree on everything but I just want to delight in the one thing every single member of the cherik fandom agrees upon:

Erik has a big dick.
