there are so many eggs!

4

So last night a bunch of my friends and I went to Denny’s for some breakfast-for-dinner and I couldn’t decide on what I wanted, so I told the waiter “I want a lot of eggs.”

“How many eggs do you want?”
“How many can I get?”
“I mean if you get a Make Your Own Slam you can get up to 8..”
“I would like a questionable amount of eggs, please. Scrambled, so that I don’t know how many there are.”

And boy did he deliver.

The manager came out to present the eggs (because, as our waiter joked, this plate of eggs was too much of a health risk for anyone but the manager to be liable for serving me), and said “….who’s responsible for this?”

I started crying out of excitement/joy/fear (no lie. it was embarrassing)

Anyway, this heavenly plate of eggs filled the entire plate and was about an inch deep (there were 2 layers of eggs in it! with cheese in the middle!!)

The waiter kept joking “You’re not getting a box. You have to finish it! You chose this!” I tipped him 100% out of pure shame (plus he was a rad dude).

Thank you Denny’s. Thank you.

Do you know why I love Dean Winchester? I love Dean Winchester because honestly, he just has the sweetest heart I’ve ever seen.

He grew up living in a nightmare existence where monsters are real, where every day he’s out there risking his life and getting hurt and watching people get killed, and he’s missed out on so many of the joys and comforts of a normal life, and he’s so burdened with responsibility and guilt and sorrow, but none of that takes away his sweetness in the small moments when no one else is paying attention: those times when he offers his arm to someone, holds open a door, drives someone to a hospital, gives a pep talk, tries to connect with a scared child, picks up a set of dropped keys, stands up for a stranger, gives a compliment… his life is practically hell, and yet he always takes the time to make someone else’s life just a little bit better.

19th of April.

I’m no longer currently living in Venezuela, but my family is still there as well as my friends. Today another protest is happening against the dictator that is Maduro. Venezuela represses freedom of speech and this is one of the few ways I can feel that I can help by sharing word of what is happening.

It is a peaceful protest, however “colectivos” are throwing tear gases to the public (as always), the public is trying to get away from it by crossing Caracas’ river where human disposal is thrown. Today another student’s life is added to the countless victims of their actions.

I could honestly keep going on and on but in summary human rights are being violated in Venezuela. We have been under the same government for 19 years now. Caracas is the most dangerous city in the whole world. People are dying from lack of medicine and food, so they quit their jobs all together to get something out of garbage trucks (as minimum wage can barely get you some eggs). So many other things that I could keep listing but this is just a post I’ve done out of the moment but please take time out of your day to research what’s happening at my home country or at least share what you’ve found as Venezuelans sadly can’t.

UPDATE: Two students were killed on this day. Over 400 people detained by peacefully protesting in this date alone in the Capital.

Okay, Tegs, I'm gonna have to ask you to explain the 'getting asked to leave preschool' thing

Preschool was a weird time for me. I was one of those horribly precocious children- I’d taught myself to read before I was three- and so while my classmates were learning their ABCs, I was reading chapter books I’d brought from home. It was honestly a total waste of time, and I acted out a lot because I was bored as hell. It was really more like day care, but understaffed- for the entire three and four year old class, there was only one teacher. Her name was Sister Ida and she would play us songs on the guitar and sing. But this wasn’t enough to mollify me; I had been SO EXCITED about school because that’s where you get to learn. The kids in books all went to school- my mom says that the summer before I started pre-school, I’d get out of bed and wake her up in the middle of the night asking if it was time to go to school. But then school turned out to be an utter disappointment. A lot of preschool is really about socialization; learning to share, learning to get along with other kids, learning not to be pushy- but I would shut down around other kids because I just wanted to read books. I’d throw a fit when my books were taken away, so Sister Ida just let me read. What else could she do? My parents didn’t want to move me up a grade because I was bad enough at talking to children my own age and they really didn’t think I’d thrive with kids older than me. I wasn’t more mature emotionally than my age cohort- I was just academically quicker, and that was a recipe for disaster if they’d bumped me up.

My parents could never get stuff done with me around, because I was always asking a million questions, so they turned to that old standby, the electronic babysitter. If I was out of books to read, I could turn on the TV; my mom just left the one in the living room tuned to the Discovery Channel.  This was old school Discovery Channel, not the reality show network it is today, which meant that I was watching animal documentaries all the time

One day, I saw a documentary about sea turtles. Specifically it was a program about the miracle of sea turtle birth- how they have so many eggs and how they don’t all make it to the sea. There was a segment on how the sea turtles find mates and how the males hang onto the females for up to twenty-four hours and how mating is violent but then she has all those eggs… I thought it was amazing. It seemed like some kind of magic trick- insert magic wand, presto change-o, baby sea turtles. I decided that I would take this in for show and tell- I would demonstrate (drumroll, please) mating

I had these little plastic turtles that I put in my schoolbag. Show and tell came around and when it was my turn, I stood up in front of the class and said “I’m going to show you how sea turtles mate!”

Sister Ida was not fast enough to stop me. I started talking about how the sea turtles entered a mating bond and stacked the plastic turtles on top of each other and then talked about how the eggs came out of the female’s cloaca. It was upsetting to the other children because I was using big words they didn’t know and it was upsetting to the nun because I was teaching three year olds about sex. When I started talking about how the male enters the cloaca and stays there for as long as a day and how the female sea turtle tries to bite him because his claws hurt, well… they’re just lucky I didn’t have visual aids beyond those two plastic turtles because male sea turtle genitals are enormous and horrifying.

This all led to a conference with my parents where the principal explained that 1.) I wasn’t learning anything; 2.) that my boredom was actually diminishing my burgeoning social skills; 3.) and that I was introducing material that wasn’t grade appropriate to kids who didn’t understand. Really, it was the best thing for me- the principal thought that I’d be better off at the public school where they actually had resources beyond a singing nun with a guitar. So when it was time for kindergarten, that’s where I went.

❛ I auditioned to be in the Easter play at school so I could skip going to church with my parents. ❜

The amazing thing about the “I don’t know enough about Metal Gear to refute that” meme is that even those of us who’ve exhaustively played every damn game in the series are in pretty much the same boat. There are so many Easter eggs and hidden endings and platform-exclusive features and straight up random events that it’s practically impossible to entirely rule anything out, no matter how outlandish. Like, you could show me the most off-the-wall clip imaginable, and when I said “okay, I’ve played that one from top to bottom and i know for a goddamn fact that doesn’t happen”, you could just respond “oh, it’s exclusive to the GameCube port”, and I’d be like “… carry on.”

anonymous asked:

do you think a person who isn't usually able to answer riddles is 'less of a ravenclaw'? because im academically brilliant (in the way that i read a page and I can't recite it perfectly) but I cannot solve those and it kinda makes me insecure ???

(the eagle doesn’t actually ask you riddles. jkr has always said QUESTION rather than riddle because it’s a philosophical question designed to make you think rather than a riddle based on word play. it’s not about getting the right answer it’s about the thought process behind it)

I just wanna say, Tony probably loves kinder surprises. (well, before they got shitty and you didn't have to build all the things.) like, it's a snack AND a buildy thing in one. He would probably replace the toy with something much better before giving them to anyone else though. (tree anon)

I bet the team find that absolutely adorable.

They probably catch him at it one day, his face absolutely lighting up when he sees he has some assembling to do, and then watch in fascination as he nibbles at the shell whilst putting all his concentration into building the shitty toys that everyone else laughs at.

He’s honestly so excited by the concept of spending thirty seconds putting together a toy. And the team love it. They end up buying so many fucking kinder eggs for that man. And taking a lot of pictures. Because Tony sticks his tongue out when he’s working and he completely b e a m s when it’s finished, so why the hell would they not want to capture that?
